I am once again at work contemplating doing a King Falls AM canon rewrite. Would anyone actually be interested in that? Would I be doing it just for myself? Is anyone else as infuriated as I am about the bad attempt to introduce a chosen one arc SEVENTY FIVE EPISODES into the show???

I loaded a save yesterday because I wanted to specifically get to that moment when Forrest can say hi to Henry, and it made me realize that I sort of made Forrest a hoarder. Like, I kept all the things that were needed to save callers somewhere around the room (like the maze map, the friendship quiz and all of the other stuff that we need, and by all I MEAN ALL OF IT) and besides that I also brought in things that I thought looked pretty, like that one tape without the case (I thought you could actually play it. Spoiler: you can't), a case from a tape that says "7 days" on it, that little thing for a play in Gallows High, y'know the Humpty Dumpty one or whatever? And that's not all of it, I'm fairly certain there's more stuff I forgot to mention.
I also figured that if you stash a bunch of items in front of Peggy's door and throw them all inside before coming in yourself, it will all stay in while Forrest is locked there. So I gathered up a bunch of things and did exactly that.
Now imagine. Henry captures Forrest. They say the dialogue. Teddy and Marrie both start talking. And Forrest just- walks out of view, and comes back with two mugs of coffee, one for himself and the other one for Henry. He puts down the other mug in front of the glass window and places a little umbrella in it (he stole it from reception) and then he also opens a magazine and just... turns it around, placing it in front of the window too so Henry could read in case he gets bored of standing around. When Henry walks over to take a look at what Forrest just did, he also sees a whole ass fire extinguisher and a screwdriver and a bunch of other things in there, and when he tilts his head to the side out of confusion Forrest just goes: "idk I thought you might get bored while they talk"
And also imagine Peggy's face when she comes out of that room and there's just... a bunch of random ass shit laying nearby. Like a fire extinguisher, a screwdriver, a bunch of tapes, a carton of milk, some magazines and a KFAM mug and she's just like- ???

Killer Frequency Spoilers!!!
Okay so I have a couple ideas as for who the person is in the beginning sequence in the alleyway
1) Sheriff Matthews. He’s the first person we hear about dying, but unfortunately the police station isn’t near KFAM radio at all. I think it’s on another end of town, if the map is correct.
2) Clive. We find out Clive died somehow at the end of his tapes, and he would have access to the alleyway. I think it’s completely closed off unless you’re entering from one of the buildings. Unfortunately, we didn’t find his body when looking through the stacks.
3) Reggie. Reggie is the producer and was there that night, as evidence by his tape being slid under Peggy’s door. However, the death, as we are lead to believe, happens before Leslie goes to Sheriff Matthews. Now either it actually does happen before the calls come in, or it happens right before Peggy gets the tape. Which could mean the killer slid the tape under the door.
And we all know the killer is actually inside the KFAM building at one point, or the whole time, and has access to the alleyway based on the scene of Forrest going outside. Reggie also has access to the alleyway as well as Clive, and would be the only other person at the station so late at night.
Now, I can imagine how he might be involved. Similarly to Maurice, he didn’t run a story. He actually accepts ads from Teddy and allows them to be played on his radio. This could be damning in Marie’s eyes.
This one honestly seems the most interesting, especially because of the discussion Forrest and Peggy have about the potential of there being many more victims that just never made it to the phone.
Wait…
How was Sandra calling the radio station?
I mean…mobiles did exist in the 80s, but they were huge and clunky, and she was doing a jazzercise walk/run. I doubt she would carry it with her.
She could have left it in the car, but didn’t she start calling before she got in the car?
Idk maybe I’m not remembering correctly

Played Killer Frequency the other day and finished it last night, I know there's a photo of Peggy on the wall of the survivors/deceased at the end of the game but I decided to experiment a little bit and see what I could come up with, I know she doesn't have long enough hair to be tied up like that (As it's short and kind of bouncy in the silhouette you see when she's in her booth but I was bored) I was going to HC she was older than Forrest but her personnel file puts her birthday in 1959 (Forrest being born in 1940) so I made other HCs to make up for it! SPOILERS BELOW IN THE FIRST PARAGRAPH!! Had this idea that when she was in the school sports hall (tricked into going there) she was attacked by Marie Campbell (One of the killers/her sister) but her injuries were quickly treated by Teddy Gallows Jr who was kidnapped alongside her once Marie ran from the police (Peggy still thinks Teddy is a jerk) and she was taken care of properly by paramedics who came from Henderson which Leslie brought over alongside more police as Gallows Creek's officers were deceased (Sheriff Matthews and Martinez), though Martinez could be a survivor if you make the right choice during the start but I ended up getting her killed and Leslie who had to drive out 6 hours (3 hours there and back) just to get backup which meant Forrest Nash was the 911 operator for the night. Another HC I have is that Peggy's way of dealing with it was talking to Forrest because she knew he would know how she felt and also went to Roller Ricky's because skating kept her distracted and she got to see Max the dog which she deemed better than going to an actual therapist. Playing the game made me think of how similar it was to Scream so another HC I imagine is Peggy went to see Scream in 1996 and was reminded of the events that happened on the night of the murders (The 3rd of September 1987) but she wasn't too affected anymore but still told Forrest (He made a joke and Peggy laughed about it). OTHER NON PEGGY HCs: -Gallows Creek discovered the Gallows family were corrupt and voted again for Linda Cartwright to be mayor as they didn't want someone like Teddy in charge. -1987 was the last time The Whistling Man night "tradition" happened although the kids will most likely bring it up from time to time much to the annoyance of the other residents (mainly the survivors). -The only time Gallows Creek deemed it "acceptable" for people to dress as TWM was Halloween and even then a group of people somehow convince Mayor Cartwright to pass a law that the people dressed as the killer must sign a document between the 28th-30th of October with their home addresses just in case and then have it sent to the police station. -Leslie became the new Sheriff mid October and trained new recruits since there wasn't anyone else in the force and by the start of November, the police force has a total of 60 officers (She offered Forrest a spot but he declined). -Ponty's pizza still does exist of course (He still likes calling the KFAM radio station hoping to promote his place).

That post about spoilers is great and like. I don’t actively really seek out spoilers for stuff, it’s more of a “if I see it I just shrug and move on” like I accidentally spoiled myself back in the kfam days for who Jack Wright was.
The only thing I actively tried to avoid spoilers for was the locked tomb bc My friend didn’t want me seeing some things. And like. I went into that series knowing some things or like. VAGUELY knowing things

OKAY SO LIKE KING FALLS AM BROKE MY HEART AND NOT HOW A STORY IS SUPPOSED TO
To actually answer your original question, Anon, I personally would not go back and finish King Falls AM if I were you. That's weird advice for me to give, but it's probably for the best. If you are about two thirds of the way through, you are standing right on the tipping point (Episode 68) of the podcast. On one hand, I feel like if you haven't listened to 68, you don't fully understand the show or one of the central characters. On the other, once you listen to 68, you have very little choice but to see all 100 episodes through, and that *will* leave you feeling disappointed and empty.
For more context- WITH POST 68 SPOILERS- here's my full opinion on this podcast I adored.
Like my header image in a KFAM quote ya'll. I'm so mad with the direction this podcast went.
So Sammy Stevens is a closeted gay man who came to King Falls from the city because his supernatural-obsessed fiance was talking about this place before he vanished into thin air. It is a twist that contextualizes a LOT and rips the "Who is Sammy Stevens?" mystery wide open while tearing a hole in your heart. I love that episode. I love that SCENE. Being outed live on air is treated with the gravity it deserves, and Sammy's sudden vulnerability and Ben's unwavering, unchanging compassion and loyalty... MAN. *man.* It's ART.
It almost makes you forget that they're rehashing the most iconic plotline in the story up until this point, but worse.
Listen, the Save Emily plotline was cliche and often spun it's gears without going anywhere, but at least it was pushed forward by Ben Motherfucking Arnold. At least while Emily was missing, we still got some pretty iconic jokes and levity. And when we did turn our focus to Emily and the Rainbow Lights, Ben's desperation was tinted with just as much HOPE as it was pain. This is the podcast that said "Bad times are tough but not tougher than me" with it's whole fucking chest. Hope was the name of the game. Accomplishing the impossible through love was the POINT. When everything is going wrong, there were always jokes, a sense of community, and BEN SHOOTING A UFO OUT OF THE FUCKING SKY.
But when we shift to the "Let's save Sammy's missing boyfriend, Jack" plotline, things get hard to swallow. The show focuses a lot on Sammy's mental state- which is FAIR- but not really why so many people who loved the show are here. Because the levity was gone. The hope was gone. Sammy was giving up. I say episode 68 was the turning point, but the real shift happened in 75. When Ben and Emily FINALLY getting together is immediately undercut by Sammy trying to throw himself into the fucking void. We can't bask in it FINALLY happening because these episodes are dedicated to Sammy Being Sad Forever.
Look. There are ways to write about depression that work. This was not it. KFAM always had a lot of heart. It was comedic and hopeful to it's bones. Until it wasn't. Until suddenly the characters don't believe in doing the impossible for love anymore. It got so nihilistic in a way that did not feel like it was ever going to let up.
And now it won't.
See, none of this would be a problem if the story pulled itself out of it's hole. Maybe this time period was supposed to be rock bottom before once again hammering home the "love prevails" message. Maybe we were a handful of episodes from the return of old running gags and bright banter even in dark times. But we will never find out. Because Episode 100 killed off a long-term character, and Jack is clearly possessed or some shit. And then the show was cancelled.
There was an outcry when episode 100 came out that it was homophobic, and while I hesitate to go that far, I can see why large swaths of queer fans felt personally betrayed. I personally think it's coincidence that the gay love story takes place during the show's "misery-porn" era, but like, it still hurts to use a queer romance as a punching bag in that way. I defended KFAM from those who claimed that the "Ben shoots a fucking UFO out of the air for the power of love" show would bury their gays, but now that the show is never getting an ending, that's exactly what happened. Sammy Stevens will not get his happy ending. Life was worth fighting for, and then everything felt hopeless, and then the creators split due to "artistic differences" and we end... here.
That's not the good kind of tragic. That just sucks. I loved KFAM. Do yourself a favor and dont listen to it.
(Also. I listened to this stuff in high school. And the older I get the more I don't have it in me to see the people who made their only canonically Jewish character Ben "King Falls Christmas" Arnold as like... creative role models. That's just one example of a laundry list of lazy and dismissive treatment of minorities in the show. Like once again the writers LOVE their characters and I don't think they ever did anything to be malicious, but their level of laziness and lack of care does contribute to me not wanting to recc this to people. I didn't want to tack this on at the end like an afterthought, but I didn't want to not mention it at all, and the point of this was to give more of my two cents on the final 1/3rd of the show's writing, not on the flaws of the show overall).
sorry to bother but i saw ur tag about king falls am and not having it in u to recc it to others and now i am curious !! i remember listening to like two thirds of it and then forgetting it existed cause life - is it worth going back to?
I have no idea how long this has been in my askbox, so sorry about that lmao XD
And look. I loved KFAM. I still do. It meant the world to me at ome point, and I had the phrase "Bad times are tough but not tougher than me" on a self made poster on my wall, right next to the actual offical poster. But at a certain point (in the episodes following 68) it lost a lot of it's hope. It became a depressing slog. The space between mystery set-ups and pay-offs were growing shorter, which to me is always a sign of a show that is having to make things up as they go more and more often. Plus signs of trouble behind the scenes that slipped into the podcast in little ways.
EDIT: I was late to clock into work typing out a bunch of thoughts that I said really poorly so like. Stand by for my full "what went wrong with KFAM" thoughts when I get off work lmao.

God this fandom is so dead and lord knows no one is here, but I’m sitting here violently eyeing the transcripts and telling myself I can NOT commit to doing a full canon rewrite. No one else will want my samben/small town comphet Emily agenda. The world does not need me to rewrite this show to correct the stupid ass chosen one narrative they started. I am clenching my fists and reminding myself of the two other wips in two different fandoms I should work on instead of this.
All this to say that if someone DID say they wanted my full canon rewrite with the samben agenda I will do so immediately.
It felt like a great idea to start King Falls AM in the year of our Burger King of Kings 2024 knowing that the show was not finished and wouldn’t be coming back. It would’ve been a better idea to realize the show likely didn’t end with any major storylines wrapped. You live and you learn

Kfam was my first podcast and got me to where i am today, so i'm really mad it just ended like that. The least they could do was host a 30 minutes talk to explain the plot and what was to come.
