the massive rush of dopamine you get from fixing your broken electronics is so good
like i broke one keyswitch on a (rather expensive) keyboard and im so glad i have the knowledge to go "ok so i just need to desolder the keyswitch and resolder a new one" rather than "well shit i gotta buy a new keyboard i guess"

Concept: a woman is holding hands with a robot, and the woman is wearing a shirt that says "I like my women like I like my keyboards" on the front and "mechanical" on the back, over an exploded view of a cherry mx brown keyswitch.
The robot's shirt says "flesh lover" in the old recaptcha distorted text style. The back has "select all the squares with the cutest girl" and a 3x3 montage of photos of the woman currently holding her right hand.

ok lets type on this thing
it’s ok
i do think i like the anne pro better but i can get used to this one and i can use the anne pro with my laptop maybe cuz it’s got bluetooth and i like typing on it
i do like this wrist rest a lot tho it’s very nice to have and it does really help lol
all in all i wasn’t expecting it to be as nice as my anne pro and it’s not but it’s still nice to type on and it’s actually a little more quiet than my anne pro so i’m sure that kate will like that more
the space key is....less than ideal but it i’ll get use to it, im sure its something i can mod later down the line if it get super annoying
and im sure my brother will appreciate having a fullsize keyboard when he’s watching the cat next month cuz he did NOT like the 60% layout even tho it rocks

You know what I really miss as a writer? Early computer keyboards. The ones with the metal base that were so heavy that you could use one as a lethal blunt instrument should the need arise. They never moved. Their wedge shape angled for your fingers like a touch-starved whore, curving for better access. They went clicky-clacky and gave resistance as you typed. The letters never wore off the keys. The home key nubs never wore down. You didn't get that smooth worn bit on the spacebar without years of ultra-heavy use. You could vacuum them with a household hoover. They'd survive any apocalypse short of a drink getting dumped right over 'em.
The modern clicky-key keyboard revivals with their £££ designer price tags just aren't hitting the spot. They have the keyswitches but they don't have that brick shithouse engineering. I want the keyboard that came with my fourth-hand 8086 DOS machine. I banged out entire fanzines on that thing, going to make coffee while it buffered my words or saved them to disk. I went from first-grade-certificate touch-typing to smokin' expert on that thing. I miss solidity under my fingers as I create words.

let’s dispel once and for all the fiction that mechanical keyswitches are good. They aren’t that much better than the alternatives.
More earnestly: the number one benefit of mechanical keyswitches is that they grant a designer an extraordinary degree of latitude when it comes to the structure and design of a keyboard. Unless you really highly value clickiness the majority of their features can be matched by high quality rubber domes from any decent keyboard manufacturer.
Their real strength is that you can pick consistent, reliable switches and put them anywhere you want in 3D space and just run wires to them to make a unique 1 of 1 keyboard that perfectly fits you, and you can easily stick a microcontroller with custom firmware in there to implement whatever features you want.
I got a Logitech ergo rubber dome today and it feels great, the biggest issue is that I wish it didn’t have a numpad and I wish it had more thumb buttons so that they could do more work. And of course I would! That’s what my homemade custom mechanical split keyboard looks like! I could make that to exact specs with some wood tools and a laser cut sheet of brass for the switchplate, whereas this Logitech is a miracle made of over a dozen unique injection moulded parts with an overall mould cost probably exceeding USD 50k!
I would love to have exactly the perfect high end rubber dome mass-produced keyboard of my dreams, but no one makes it, and that’s, reasonable, I have very specific dreams, but I have never understood bog standard layout mechanicals. You could be having a much better time with something with nicer switches!
Tumblr media
Sorely tempted to figure out if I can physically hack off the numpad here and sneakily hot-glue some kailh choc switches to the wristrest as thumb keys. At the moment I'm just putting my trackball square on top of the numpad which works fine. I'll print a cap for it later. This is going to end up at Gainful Employment Location not home. At the very least I want to see if there's a way to distinguish the two spacebars in software and use some clever hacks to make them behave as enter/backspace/both.
ISO enter keys were sent by the devil but I don't really have a lot of good options unless I want to import ANSI keyboards.

I woule love to have the kind of money people must have to buy the extra expensive keyboard switches i keep getting them advertised to me and its like. there CANNOT be that much of a difference. but somehow theres enough people buying them to support an artisan subindustry within the already really frivolous specialty keyswitch industry

Download Native Instruments – Stradivari Violin
A Masterpiece of Musical History
The Stradivari Violin is named after Antonio Stradivari, the legendary luthier from Cremona, Italy, whose violins are renowned for their exceptional sound quality. The Stradivari Violin virtual instrument captures this legacy with precision. Native Instruments, in collaboration with e-instruments, recorded an original Stradivarius from 1727, known as the "Vesuvius," to deliver a faithful reproduction. Every nuance of the instrument, from its rich tones to its subtle articulations, has been painstakingly sampled.
Unmatched Sound Quality
The Native Instruments Stradivari Violin is not just another string library; it is an immersive experience that brings the warmth and depth of a Stradivarius to your compositions. The instrument offers multiple articulations, including legato, pizzicato, spiccato, and tremolo, among others. This variety allows you to create highly realistic and dynamic performances. The advanced sampling techniques used ensure that every note you play resonates with the authenticity and emotional depth of a real Stradivarius.
Intuitive and User-Friendly Interface
Ease of use is a hallmark of Native Instruments' products, and the Stradivari Violin is no exception. The interface is designed to be intuitive, allowing you to focus on your creativity. Key features include easy access to different articulations and performance modes, customizable keyswitches, and an expression slider for real-time dynamics control. The built-in effects, such as reverb and EQ, let you shape the sound to fit perfectly into your mix.
Versatility for Any Genre
While the Stradivari Violin excels in classical and orchestral music, its versatility makes it suitable for a wide range of genres. Whether you're working on a cinematic score, a pop ballad, or an experimental electronic track, this instrument provides the expressive power and tonal richness needed to elevate your music. The natural, lifelike sound of the Stradivari Violin can add a layer of sophistication and emotion to any production.
Seamless Integration with Kontakt
The Stradivari Violin is designed to work seamlessly with Native Instruments' Kontakt sampler. If you already use Kontakt, integration is straightforward, allowing you to start creating beautiful music right away. The instrument takes advantage of Kontakt’s powerful scripting engine, providing a responsive and expressive playing experience. For those new to Kontakt, the Stradivari Violin comes with detailed instructions and support to help you get started.
Realistic Performances with Advanced Technology
The technology behind the Stradivari Violin ensures that your performances sound as realistic as possible. The instrument features advanced legato transitions, bow noise emulation, and true vibrato control. These features combine to create a playing experience that is both natural and inspiring. The sampled dynamics and round-robin variations prevent the repetitive and mechanical feel often associated with virtual instruments, making the Stradivari Violin a joy to play.

what would you consider a good keyboard? (I know nothing about keyboards mechanical or otherwise so I'm just curious)
Honestly this is a perfectly fine keyboard for most users. A 20$ flat membrane thing.
The only reason why I would recommend getting anything more expensive than that is that you type too fast and sloppy for it (I have this problem), or you need more physical feedback when you type.
In which case, you're going to need a mechanical keyboard. Which one doesn't matter a huge amount, but it's important to keep in mind that this is a hobby. That's fine, but it means that a lot of the products out there are for people who are buying mechanical keyboards because they're into mechanical keyboards, not because they need a keyboard and a mechanical keyboard is the best choice for the job.
I've been using basically this keyboard (I've got slightly different options and it's an older model they don't make anymore) for years:
It's not too expensive for a mechanical keyboard, it's available in all the keyswitch types you'd want, and it has all the keys in a sensible layout. Works great.
There's different types of keyswitches, btw. This is something that's hard to explain. I'd recommend going to a best buy or computer store and seeing if they have a demonstrator. Basically it just comes down to how clicky or tactile they are, how much force they require, etc.
If you're gonna be playing games, you probably want cherry mx red or black: they're linear and fast, making them quick to react when you press them. If you're mainly going to be typing, you want brown or blue. brown is tactile (you can feel when you bottom it out), but it doesn't make as much noise as a blue. That's better for shared offices and such where your typing would annoy people, but worse for feedback. A lot of people like to really hear it when they type.

Understanding Roller Shutter Bullet Locks
Tumblr media
What Are Roller Shutter Bullet Locks?
Roller shutter bullet locks, often referred to as “bullet locks,” are security devices commonly used to enhance the security of roller shutter doors. Roller shutter doors are typically made of metal and are used to secure the entrances of shops, warehouses, and other commercial or industrial premises. Bullet locks provide an additional layer of protection against unauthorised entry or break-ins.
Here’s how roller shutter bullet locks work:
Design: Bullet locks are usually cylindrical in shape and made of strong, durable materials like steel. They are designed to be inserted into the side channels or guides of the roller shutter door.
Locking Mechanism: These locks operate using a locking mechanism that consists of a bolt or pin. When the lock is engaged, this bolt or pin is extended into the guide channels, preventing the roller shutter from being lifted or forced open.
Keyed Access: Bullet locks are typically operated using a key. When the correct key is inserted and turned, it activates the locking mechanism, securing the roller shutter in place.
Enhanced Security: Bullet locks are known for their robustness and resistance to tampering or forced entry attempts. They are designed to withstand physical attacks and are often considered a high-security option for roller shutter doors.
Deterrence: The presence of bullet locks can act as a deterrent to potential burglars or vandals, as they can see that the roller shutter is not easily bypassed.
Accessibility: Roller shutter bullet locks are usually installed at waist or chest height, making them easily accessible to authorised personnel while ensuring they are not within easy reach of potential intruders.
Additional Features: Some bullet locks may come with additional features, such as anti-drill and anti-pick mechanisms, to further enhance security.
In summary, roller shutter bullet locks are security devices that play a crucial role in securing roller shutter doors, especially in commercial and industrial settings. They provide an effective means of preventing unauthorised access and are an important component of a comprehensive security system for such premises. i don't have a good way of cleaning my keyswitches (this time it was lager but they must have several different beverages of all kinds in them by now lmao) so the only thing that works is to keysmash loads or pretend i'm one of them QC robots and smash the mushy keys a bunch of times to try work through the residue on the inside of the switch
