A/N: I have finally written a oneshot for every single member of this polycule! I'm not going to put them into a series because I don't think they're connected for that but you can go looking for them if you're interested in reading the Millie or Keys one. Stay sissy and bitchy everyone <3
Mouser had always been somewhat insecure. It came with the territory of being the youngest out of three kids. He was never enough for his parents because he had way too much to live up to, and his siblings had always resented him because they believed that he didn’t have to work as hard to get the approval that they wanted. When he went to school, he began to flourish as a gifted kid, but that was quickly crushed when he moved to college and was around actual peers.
He thought that he would have been over it by now, but it seems like the universe is always dedicated to proving him wrong. He thought that working for one of the best tech companies in the world (at the time, because it quickly crashed and burned once it could no longer exploit people) and then with the most popular game of their day and age would have given him the confidence that he needed.
Yet, he found himself wallowing in the feeling again, years after he had thought that it would pass. It was like a great black maw had opened up in his belly so that it could suck in every tiny bit of joy that he would have gotten had it been a normal day. In return for the light and warmth that the stomach-sized black hole took from him, it replaced those feelings with a chill and darkness that Mouser wasn’t quite sure how to deal with.
Those feelings felt like they were exploding out of him. They had long since moved out of the tiny apartment that Millie had been renting when they all got together, into a little house in the suburbs where they wouldn’t be flocked with people. It was in a gated community too, so there was a very slim chance of any paparazzi getting past the armed guards at the gate to come and harass them.
He had never seen his life going in that direction when he was younger, even if he had dreamed about being a keynote speaker at some gaming conference or interviewed on late night talk shows. Realistically, there was always something in the back of his mind that told him that would never actually happen. It was something that every kid dreamed of but very few kids actually got to entertain.
Arguably, the only thing that he should be capable of feeling at this stage in his life is grateful for what he had. He grew up watching his parents struggle against the systemic oppression of their country and he had been able to give them a comfortable retirement home and whatever else it was that they had wanted. He had been given the chance to rise on the privilege of others so that he broke a ceiling for other kids like him. He had a comfortable house, a working car, all the food that he liked stocked in his fridge and pantry, friends, a dog that was polite and kind, and two wonderful partners.
But instead of being grateful that he had been given that, he was just nervous that he was going to lose it all. The time when he was twenty and staying in the same apartment as the two developers he was rapidly falling in love with had long since passed. Now they were pushing their mid thirties and they were more successful than he could have ever dreamed.
Their home was comfortable, their friends were kind, they were able to choose to eat out every night if Millie would stop insisting that it was unhealthy. And yet he was still worried that he was inadequate.
It was something stupid that had brought the massive wave that he was wading his way through currently, something that could easily be cleared up with a tiny bit of communication. It wasn’t the first time that he had felt like that in his relationship and he was sure that it wasn’t going to be the last, but that didn’t make the situation any easier to navigate.
So instead of talking to them about it like the reasonable adult that he was sure was rattling around in his brain somewhere, he woke up early the morning that he could no longer stand feeling like that and walked out to their backyard.
He went out there whenever he was feeling nervous about something because it was grounding. He had lived in one of the biggest cities in America for as long as he could remember, so grass had been a luxury even at the playground of his school. He loved being able to have a very reasonable patch of it in his backyard, though it was mostly reserved for their dog. The rest of the space was supposed to be clover but Keys had never actually gotten around to ordering it from their landscaping company like he always promised to.
The smell of the coffee in the mug he had grabbed before coming out was enough to wake him up, but the burn of it in the back of his mouth was just as grounding as the sun and the grass. It was a beautiful summer day with just enough of an early-morning breeze that he could hear Millie’s lilac tree rustling in the wind. Keys’ fruit trees lined their back fence but hadn’t begun to produce anything yet, instead laden with little green buds.
He hadn’t chosen to put anything in their back garden because he didn’t know what kind of things rich people like them were supposed to grow. Both of his partners had laughed and kissed him on the cheek before they had begun the great rush to get ready for work.
Mouser let out a low breath as he tried to beat back the feelings that had been overwhelming him again. The point of coming outside was to think until Rover woke them, not to wallow.
They had recently cleaned up their little patch of grass, so he was able to sit down on the corner closest to the trees without having to worry about dog debris. He tilted his head up towards the early morning Summer sun so that it was casting the warm beams down directly onto his face. It soothed the ache in his heart at least a little bit and he was reminded of the lecture that Millie had gone on the other day concerning vitamin D and what she had dubbed ‘lizard time’.
He let out a low breath and then tilted his head down towards the cup clutched in his hands. He had to think about everything practically or he was never going to get it out of his head and it would plague him forever. His thoughts felt like a jumbled mess of code that someone had come in and changed without leaving any notes. He was struggling to read it but was also unable to figure out the why and how everything was working.
Two months after Keys and Millie had gotten together, a while after they had gotten the rights to their game back, Mouser had admitted his feelings for the duo and then been brought into their relationship as a third. It was one of the best things that had ever happened to him and he wouldn’t give it up for anything. Something had always bothered him, though, and it wasn’t something that he had discussed with either of his partners up to that point.
Mouser had thought that he had gotten up and slipped out of the house early enough that he would have had at least an hour to himself, but the sliding glass door that led out onto their patio opened and revealed the very people that he was thinking about. Rover darted out of the house and down towards his owner, barking loudly.
“Hey puppy,” Mouser chuckled as he ran his hand over the soft golden hair on the top of his head. They had made an impulse decision when they had adopted a senior pet, but he had immediately gotten the energy of a puppy when he was in a house that actually cared for him and gave him the attention that he needed.
He got a lick to his face for his troubles before Rover ran off to do whatever it was that he did when they let him outside in the morning. Carefully, Mouser tilted his head up so that he could see his partners and take in what they were doing. Millie was dressed in a pair of baggy blue sweatpants that had the heels walked off and a large sleep shirt that Mouser was half sure was his. Keys was wearing a pair of tartan flannel sleep shorts that they had gotten him as a gag gift for his birthday and nothing else.
They looked towards each other as they stepped out onto the deck, saying something that Mouser wasn’t able to make out because of how far away he was. He was kind of relieved about it, even though he usually liked being in the know about everything that was going on around him. He wasn’t sure that his already fragile mind was going to be able to handle them rejecting him or realizing how much they loved each other over him.
The moment that thought popped into his head, he wasn’t able to resist the cringe that forced its way over his features. The entire point of him getting up and going outside was to find out what was bothering him so much about what had happened yesterday and why. He hadn’t thought that it would come to him when he saw the very people that had caused the emotion, however.
Jealousy wasn’t something that had a place in polyamorous relationships. Of course, it was a human emotion and thus it was likely to crop up every now and again. The difference between polyamorous and monogamous relationships was that jealousy was supposed to be addressed as soon as the person feeling it realized what was happening to avoid situations that blew up and shattered the whole dynamic into pieces.
He wasn’t sure that what he was feeling was actually jealousy, however. It had a lot of the hallmarks, like the tight stomach and sour feeling in his heart, but it was also different. He felt a fluttering in his ears like his heart was beating too hard and his throat felt tight with anxiety. He was nervous and insecure, he realized with a start.
Mouser had been so wrapped up in his own head that he hadn’t even noticed the duo making their way down the steps of the deck and carefully over the stone path that led through the untouched dirt and woodchips to their patch of grass. They settled down beside him, both of them facing towards him while half of their body was pressed against the other. It made the anxiety he had already been experiencing increase tenfold.
“What are you doing up so early?” Millie asked, rubbing her eye awkwardly. She reached out and took his coffee cup like it was the most natural thing in the world. Given how much of the stuff that they consumed and the fact that they were often too busy to make more than a single mug, it was. It always had been, even before they had gotten together.
Some of the insecurity that had been brewing inside of him settled when he saw her realization that he had made it according to his tastes and not hers. She made a face so that her mouth was a tight line and her nose was wrinkled cutely. Keys took his coffee black, Millie took hers with cream and two sugars, and Mouser took his with french vanilla syrup or blueberry cobbler creamer.
“I just came out here to think,” he answered after a second, offering them both a small shrug.
“What’s on your mind, then?” Keys asked. He took the coffee cup from Millie and took a sip, making the same face that she had before it finished the circle and ended up back in Mouser’s waiting hands.
He didn’t answer them right away, instead turning his head so that he could watch their golden retriever digging through the remnants of the flowerbed meant for him. He really should have taken them up on the offer to plant something there so that the outside of the house looked just as much like he owned it as it did for them. He didn’t really know why he hadn’t, his mother would have loved to give him advice about the best types of flowers and what they meant.
Millie reached out and then knocked her foot against his leg. It made his attention snap back to her in a second, like he wasn’t always thinking about her. She was cutest when she had just woken up, that was something that he had decided a long time ago. She had her hair back in a ponytail that was partially falling loose around her face and the hickies they had left on her the week prior were peaking out over the massive shirt that she was wearing. She kept having to stifle her yawns and her eyes would droop before she blinked.
“What?” he asked, forgetting the question that she had just asked.
Keys and Millie shared a look with each other, which was also something that they did whenever they were being interviewed about their company. That insecure feeling broke through Mouser’s walls again and wrapped its fist around his stomach so that he actually felt sick.
“Come on, kitten, don’t make us crack in your code like you’re a glitching AI in our game,” Keys chuckled.
The nickname made his cheeks flame to life. It was supposed to be a joke about the nickname that he used in place of the one that he was given by his parents. They had tried to call him ‘Keyboard’ and a number of other computer related parts in the beginning of their relationship as they tried to find something that they could keep just for them, but they found that it was too confusing given what they worked with every day. He was okay with it, especially since they hadn’t gone with the dog breeds that were specifically bred to hunt mice.
He let out a small sigh and then drained the rest of his coffee. The sugar and caffeine worked together as they hit his system so that he felt more awake and able to actually articulate his feelings. “I’m thinking about the proposal.”
“What about it?” Millie asked. She shuffled forward on the grass so that they both had their legs folded and she was able to take his hand. Keys stayed where he was, watching them both with careful eyes so that he could see where he fit in. Mouser related to that a lot, he felt as though he had been doing that every second that he had been in the relationship instead of just physically like his boyfriend was doing now.
“I just…” he paused and had to clear his throat. The words were sticking in his mouth like toffee, uncomfortable and coating his teeth with a taste he wasn’t fond of. It was so hard to be vulnerable and real with them in the way that this kind of conversation required, but he was trying to force it out of where it was stuck. Mouser decided to stare down at where Millie was holding his hand so that he didn’t have to meet those beautiful, sleepy eyes of hers as he admitted, “I’m kind of wondering where I’m going to fit in when the two of you are married and I’m not.”
Millie jerked back very suddenly and it made Mouser raise his head from where he had bowed it so that he could see what was going on. Her bright blue eyes were now wide open and she looked like she had just consumed a whole bag of espresso beans. She whirled around so that she was facing their partner and then said, “Keys!”
“Shit, I mean, fuck,” he began patting his pockets like he was searching for something.
“Why would you have it on you right now? We just got out of bed!” Millie screeched. She was moving on her hands and knees as she made her way over to him so that she could smack his shoulder. “You made him worry for nothing, go and get it right now!”
Mouser didn’t think that he had ever been as confused as he currently was. His boyfriend and girlfriend were always like that with each other, which showed just how long they had known the other, but they very rarely got that upset about anything. He also had no idea why his admission would be making them act like that, but he supposed that there was a chance he was so unimportant that they hadn’t even been actually listening to what he said.
Keys scrambled to his feet as he said, “Yes, okay, yeah.”
He had only just disappeared into the house when Millie turned around. “I’m so sorry that you were feeling like this and we didn’t figure it out. We just got so wrapped up in the announcements that I guess it slipped Keys’ mind. If I had been in charge of it then I wouldn’t have forgotten at all.”
He still wasn’t completely aware of what she was talking about, but he knew that was true. Keys and Millie were the heads of their company and Mouser was under them as their head manager since he had no knowledge about how to run a company and really wasn’t interested in it. Millie was the one that remembered all of their meetings and everything that they had said. Mouser was half convinced that Keys would be walking into doors and getting lost in server rooms if she wasn’t there to direct him towards where he was meant to be going.
The aforementioned man came running back to where his partners were sitting down and then flopped beside them. “So you already know about the ring that I got for Millie when I proposed to her but what you don’t know and were supposed to find out about last night before I promptly forgot after all the interview requests that we started getting,” he began before anyone else could speak. Usually that fact would put their partner out of sorts, but this time she just stared at him with a fond smile on her face.
He pulled a velvet box similar to the one that had been on top of his dresser for the last two months, the one that Mouser had assumed he had presented to Millie during their date. “I was already planning on proposing to Millie after talking to you about it when we went on that nice date at the arcade, but when I went into the jewelry shop so that I could pick something out for her, the only thing that I could think about was you. So I picked this up and figured that I could propose to you and we could get married in the eyes of our friends and family or just Rover even if we can’t get married legally,” he rambled.
Mouser didn’t say anything as he reached out and took the box from his partner. He opened it up and saw that there was a hardy silver band engraved with little slashes where gemstones might have gone if the buyer had wanted it. It was practical but still weighty enough that he would always remember it was there when he had it on.
The thought came to him so quickly he hadn’t even realized that he was having it. He glanced up at Keys with wide eyes just as the other man asked, “So what do you say?”
“What do I say?” he snorted, raising both of his eyebrows. “I told you that I was feeling insecure in our relationship and you fucking proposed to me. That’s the most us shit ever, Keys.”
Keys let his shoulders fall as he laughed eagerly. “I was so worried that you were going to say no because I forgot.”
“You forget everything,” Millie teased with their shared fiance nodding alongside her.
Their conversation continued even after they were joined by their rambunctious dog. Mouser made an internal note that he should contact his therapist about better ways to handle those kinds of feelings and then settled into the love that came with being around his partners. This was a problem that wasn’t going to go away for a while, maybe ever, but for now the demons had been forced back by the heavy metal weight on his ring finger.

Keys is a pretty handsome guy. The kind of guy that makes anyone feel at ease just by staring at his hazel, puppy-like eyes. He has a pretty slope nose, cute freckles and small moles on his face and body, soft shiny hair and a perfect smile. Keys knows that he's pretty. He likes to act as if he's completely oblivious to his own charms, adding to the whole shy aloof tech guy persona. He knows the look girls and boys give to him, wanting to eat him up. He likes the attention, even though it still makes him flush at the neck and ears sometimes. He likes the way the girls giggle and offer him help when he has trouble with the printer at his job. He knows the flirty eyes and lingering touches girls give to him when he explains something to them, and how wildly they react and he swallows nervously. He knows the sultry tone of voice they use whenever he's alone with them in an elevator. He likes when they touch his cheeks, talking about how cute he looks with his glasses. Keys knows all of it.
He thinks is funny how you seem to act so untouched by his charming aura. He knows you're not imune to him, he noticed the slightly dazed look on your face whenever he talks to you. How you get fidgety, like a scared kitten, when he sits too close to you in meetings. And his favorite, how you cant keep eye contact, looking away and flushing every time. Keys thinks is cute, the way you avoid him, while also acting as if he's not affecting you at all. But then again, he knows he is.
It's friday, and as usual, the small office is nearly empty. Mouser has already left, with a promise of finishing his coding at home. Millie's desk is on your other side, leaving you between her and Keys. It's a little annoying sometimes, because they chat as if you weren't there, or worse, as if you were some kind of wall that they need to dodge to talk to each other. Other than that is nice. Millie is nice with you, and you consider yourselves to be friends. Keys is nicer, but the way you look at him makes clear you don't consider him your friend. He's in undefined territory, since you want him but don't want him to know it. He obviously has better things, or people, to do.
Millie looks at you smiling and waving, before plugging her notebook off, and leaves the place in quiet steps. She doesn't say anything to Keys, as she usually would, but then you realize its because he's focused on something, big headset on, eyes and nose scrunching in concern. You dont know for how long you stare at his face before he catches you, a mischievous glint to the smile he gives to you.
"What you doing?"
You shake your head before answering, feeling your armpits getting warmer with embarrassment. "Just, hm, Millie just left." Keys nods, taking the headset off, before turning his chair to you. He's still smiling, but is almost boyish now. He gets up walking to your desk, stopping just before his waist can touch your shoulders.
"No, what are you still doing here? Having any trouble?" You look at the slight messed up script on your computer screen. Sheepishly you nod, letting him invade the space between you and your desk. He works in silence, typing fast, the blue light of the screen reflecting in his glasses. You can seem to look away from him, inspecting his face and hair and hands and the lean muscles of his forearms, almost concealed by the rolled up sleeves of his grey shirt. It's almost too much, and you feel embarrassed by ogling him, staring quickly at the pen holder on your desk. If Keys notices it he doesn't show you. He does notices it, though. It takes him a lot of inner strength to not let a satisfied smile appear on his face. Instead, he keeps focused on the screen, catching glimpses of your face reflected in the mirror.
Suddenly Keys stops typing, and runs a hand to his hair. You look at the screen in awe. He smiles at you. "Done." You look up to him ready to thank him for helping you, but with the way he looks at you and the way he looks so handsome just standing in the dim lighting has the words caught up in your throat. You swallow, trying to find focus to speak, but he beats you.
"You're still having trouble aren't you?" You frown, not really understanding what he means. You want to ask him, opening your mouth to do so, but his hands cradle your face, he finds his way to stay between your thighs, and pulls your face gently up, to stare at his blown pupils eyes. You don't know to what exactly you're answering, but you nod your head yes, letting your lips part slowly, your breathing starting to get a little ragged. His hands are soft against your cheeks, a little bit of roughness on the tips of the fingers. Keys smile.
"Do you still need my help?" And now you get it, nodding a little too eagerly, tingling anxiety on your armpits, hands and neck. Keys chuckle at you, shaking his head a little. You feel like you're doing too much and intend to pull away, only for him to bend over and attach his lips to yours. His lips are a little chapped, tasting like coffee and melon bubble gum. He kisses you softly, letting you frustrated when he pulls away. His mouth moves to kiss your eye, your cheeks, the edge of your jaw, and your mouth again. He devours you then. The kiss is passionate, his hand running through your scalp to hold you more firmly, nested on the nape of your neck. You kiss him back urgently, letting him lick inside your mouth, sighing with want. Your hands twitch going to hold him by his shirt. Keys pull away, lingering kisses on your forehead.
"What do you want my help with?" He kisses your temple.
"With the mess between your thighs?" He kisses your nose while smiling.
"With the way you keep looking at me, like im not gonna notice those pretty eyes?" He kisses your jaw, nipping the soft skin. You gasp.
"With the way you ignore me? Hurting me?" You clutch his shirt harder, pulling him to kiss you again. He does, happy with your reaction. He kisses your mouth again, slow and lustful, earning whines from how much you want him. His hands go to your waist, for you to get up off your chair. You pull him harder, too anxious to trust your hands exploring on their own. Keys walks back until he sits down on his chair and pulls you to his lap with ease. You sit, arms tangling on his neck, before kissing him again. He dodges, and your kiss lands on his cheekbone.
"Wanna go to my place or to yours?" You think a little, too dazed by him.
"My house is 5 minutes away." He nods. "Mine is two blocks away."
You smile sheepishly, nesting yourself against his warm embrace. "Yours then." He nods too, looking at you in what seems adoration. "Atta girl."
The walk to his building is unnerving. Keys has his arm thrown lazily on your shoulders, as if this was a usual thing. Your body seems to think the same, and you hug him by the waist before you can think about it. He kisses the tip of your nose for that, a subtle new hint of adoration in his eyes. It's nice being so close to someone that you can smell their perfume, their sunscreen, the gum they're chewing, their sweat. Keys is warm, and you indulge yourself in being in his arms on a chilly evening. You could do this every day. You want to do this every day.
The building doesn't have a doorman, and Keys opens the door to you, making a silly face. He tells you his apartment is on the 8th floor, and so, you two walk to the elevator. His body is still glued to yours, hands holding hands, thighs touching thighs. The moment the elevator door closes, his lips are on yours again. It's soft, not nearly as desperate as before, but just as ardent. You pull him by his waist, locking one of legs between yours. He whines in your mouth when you touch a silver of exposed skin between his pants and t shirt. You want to hear him again. Keys slows you down, kissing you languidly and locking your hands with his. You are about to whine about it, but the elevator opens up. When he pulls back and looks at you, his eyes are a pool of molasses, warm and full of affection and yearning. He smiles while you pout at him. "Easy, tiger."
You giggle and he pulls you along the yellow lightning hallway. You feel giddy and excited, the way you felt when you had your first kiss. He looks so handsome in the dim lightning, the yellow hues only enhancing his tanned skin and caramel locks. You wanna eat him up. When he notices your not so subtle staring he laughs, giving you a quick peck on the cheeks before unlocking the door. Keys' place is quite neat, some mess of books and coffee mugs on the small table. You cant look around much, his lips are on your neck, his hands roaming between your ribcage and waist. When he touches your tits, a barely there, whisper of a touch, you gasp. He seems to like your reaction, grunting against your hair. Walking together you both reach his bedroom, where he turns you on his arms. Keys kisses you, urgently, teeth nipping lip, and suddenly you two are on the bed. You pull away, feeling too anxious now that this is actually happening.
"Keys." He's kissing your neck now, his hands under your shirt, his pelvis in synch with yours. You try again. "Keys, I wan-ah-na talk." He stops immediately, looking up to your face with blown pupils and shiny lips. You cant resist the urge to touch him, cupping his cheeks.
"I like you." He gives you a smirk, one of his hands coming up to stroke your cheek. "I can see that." He gestures to the way your legs are wrapped on his waist, locking him against you. You smile softly.
"No, like, I really like you. I don't want this to be a one time thing. I couldn't bear it." He sighs, and looks a little confused. He catches your hands, and kisses your knuckles. He cups your face then. "Honey, i've been trying to get to you for a long time. I want you for a long time. I wouldn't keep chasing you, if this was a one time thing."
You snort, happy he seems to feel the same as you. "You didnt chase me." He laughs ironically, ducking in to kiss your neck. "I did, you just never noticed."
Before you could keep arguing with him, and probably ruin the mood, his mouth was on yours again, a new intention behind the kiss. You grabbed him by his shirt, pulling him even closer to you. You pull away to kiss his neck, and place his hands on tour tits. He gasps and squeezes them softly, whining when you roll your hips against his. "You're too warm. Lets take this off."
You nod eagerly helping him to pull your shirt off. His comes next, and then your jeans and his jeans. Keys kisses you again, and you remove your bra. He pulls back, sitting on his ankles to watch you almost bare before him. He licks his lips, hands going straight to your tits. He squeezes them, focused on your reactions. He kisses one nipple and then the other before fully attaching his mouth to one of them. His thumb flicks the other, and you start to get impossibly wet. Still attached to your breast, his other hand descent to tease your cunt, pressing your cotton covered clit. You moan, and Keys looks up, smiling with his mouth engulfing your breast. You're getting impatient tugging him, squirming legs while he keeps teasing you. He gives you enough to stay in the halfway between your release, but never enough. Keys adores the way you whine and begs for more.
Finally he pulls your panties down, and licks your cunt. You almost cum just from that, back arching, hands tugging his soft hair. You can feel him smile against you and that only makes you wetter. He looks at you, glasses still on.
"Take them off for me please?" You nod, shaking hands taking his glasses and placing delicately at the bedside table. He licks you again, completely focused on your cunt, licking, kissing, devouring it. Keys presses his fingers at your entrance, and you push yourself against them in a desperate attempt.
"So needy, baby." The condescending tone in his voice and the way he pushes one finger inside, then the other, has you crying, clutching tightly to his sheets. He moves them slowly, testing you. "Can you take more?"
You answer yes panting, and he kisses the skin below your belly button as a reward. He adds a third finger and slowly sets a pace, his mouth glued to your clit. He alternates between licking and kissing your cunt and biting playfully at your thighs. You want him to eat you up, and he does, allowing your pleasure to flood through your senses, leaving you with ragged breaths and shaking limbs. Keys seems satisfied when he lays his head on your stomach, his hands caressing the sides of your ribs. He smiles lazily, pure bliss in his eyes, and you smile back, reaching to pet his hair.
"Didn't know you were this skilled in girls department, Mr. Keys." He laughs, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He climbs on top of you, his cock poking close to your cunt. You feel hot all over, and in a bold move, you grab his butt. Keys gasps and feigns a shocked expression before kissing your lips.
"Wanna be inside you." He says softly, before hiding his face between your neck and shoulder. You think is adorable, how he was just between your legs making you moan desperately, and now he seems shy about wanting to have you. You pull his face gently, kissing the tip of his nose. "Then be inside me."
He wastes no time, pushing his boxers down and hurriedly lining himself with you. You feel the air leave your lungs when he sinks in you, it's a nice burning stretch. "Jesus-f-fuck Keys!"
He whimpers and his hands grip you harder. "Sorry, sorry baby. So so sgood, feels so good." Keys starts slowly, allowing your body to get used and to feel all of him. Even though it's still burning, you need more, so you snap your hips against his. He groans, fucking you harder, meeting your hips in synch. Keys brings your legs up his shoulders, allowing him to feel you deeper, to fuck you deeper. His eyes never leave yours, and the way his face scrunch up, every time he fills you entirely, is enough to leave you a whimpering mess. He's close to his release and the soft babbling of how good you feel, how perfect is your pussy, how you look so pretty underneath him has you on the brink of your orgasm too.
Keys bends a little to reach your mouth with his own, and you lose all control, engulfing his body in a warm embrace of arms and legs and kisses. He keeps kissing you, swallowing your cries and slowing down. "Where do you want me, baby?" Everywhere. You want him under your skin, between your ribs, close to your heart. "In me, please." He grunts, rolling his hips slowly, making you mewl. "So polite, so good to me, so, so pretty, such a pretty little face, such a pretty little cunt."
You gasp, and Keys keeps fucking you slowly, steadily, focused on how you feel wrapped around him. You hold him tightly, still on your post climax haze, and he spills inside you. He collapses on top of your body, hands finding rest on your sides. His right hand fetches yours, and the lazy smile on his face when you squeeze his fingers between yours is enough to end all wars. Keys kisses your sternum, your throat, your chin and finally your lips. Is soft and languid, your legs finally resting on the mattress instead of locking his body closer to yours. He smiles between kissing, his hand now caressing your cheeks. "I quite like you, you know." You smile, so happy it almost hurt your cheeks. "I quite like you too." Keys rolls to the side, pulling you to lay beside him. A small blanket is throw over you but you're too focused on Keys' warmth and soft pine smell to notice. He kisses your mouth, nipping softly on the flesh before hugging you closely and dozing off to sleep.

okay wait so about the request thing…I love angst, so like…maybe an angst Keys thing? Whether it’s hurt/comfort or hurt/no comfort you can pick! Also feel free to ignore this if you don’t want to do it :)
Keys spends his whole work day trying to make you feel better after you two get in a fight — keys x fem!reader angst & fluff
warnings: a bit of angst/fighting, but a lot of fluff tbh
words: 1k
a/n: to the requester, I'm sorry if this wasn't exactly what you wanted but I still like the result and I hope you do too
You slammed your headset against your desk, causing your keyboard to clatter and your mouse to fall down onto the floor, but you didn’t care about any of that.
“I’m going on my break now.” You announced angrily, then took off down the hall.
You stormed past Mouser on the way, who had no idea about the precursor to your current meltdown.
“What the hell’s up with her?” He asked as he sat down and rolled the chair closer to his desk.
Keys was already standing up to follow you and answer that very question. “I’m not sure. I’ll be back in a minute.”
He followed you across the floor to the snack room, where you were attempting to calm yourself down by making a cup of tea. The door was still swinging behind you, but he closed it more gently once he came in.
“What was that? What’s going on?” Keys asked you.
“I should be asking you that.” You retorted.
He just looked at you with a puzzled face, his stupid confused face. “What are you talking about? What did I do?”
“You made me look like an idiot back there! I was trying to get that guy and you were just completely overtaking the operation!”
“We got him, so what does it matter if we used my strategy or yours?”
“Because you think I’m stupid. Is it so unreasonable to be upset that my best friend thinks I’m incompetent?”
He just looked even more confused than before now. “I could never think that about you.”
Your water had finished boiling, so you poured the water into your mug. “Well, you ignored everything I said so you could go and kill him by yourself. We should have been working together.”
He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “Look, I’ve had to deal with this asshole before, I’m so tired of having to go after the same guy over and over. I’ve learned how to handle him, so I know how to go about things in the most efficient way. I’m sorry I took over the operation, I promise I won’t do it again.”
You emptied out a sugar packet into your drink, still mad at him but less so than a few minutes ago. You sighed as you threw out the paper package.
“You can start making it up to me by volunteering to file the paperwork for banning him from Free City.”
He seemed relieved with your proposition. “Yeah, absolutely! Will do.”
“Good.” You moved past him and opened the door to leave, steadily carrying your hot beverage. “And I’m on break right now but you’re not, so you better get on that.”
✦✧✦✧✦
You hadn’t spoken to Keys since your argument in the snack room. It’s hard enough to completely ignore him on a day when you’re not at work, but it was so much worse when he was sitting right across from you.
You got a confirmation notification on your computer screen about the ban paperwork that Keys had apparently just filed. Not even three seconds after you both received the message, your coworker had already stood up so he could speak over the glass partition between you two.
“Did you see I wrote up the slip to get him banned?” He asked you urgently.
You answered without even looking at him. “Yep, thanks for that.”
He didn’t sit back down. Keys just kept looking at you like he was waiting for something.
“Do you want a pat on the back or something, Keys?”
“Do you forgive me now?”
You sighed and finally looked at him beyond just seeing him out of your peripheral vision. “I said I’d think about forgiving you. I’m still a bit pissed at you.”
He slumped back into his chair, then went back to his computer. A few seconds later, you got another push notification.
Curious, as it had Keys’ name attached, you clicked on the little pop-up. It opened 2 messages from the man. The first was him apologising once more, and the second was a colon and closed bracket forming a little smiley face.
Even though you weren’t all that mad at him, you still didn’t react to the small yet altogether cute gesture. You thought it would be fun to see what else he does to get you to forgive him.
One more message floats up onto your screen. “Is it working?”
You typed a message in reply. “Sort of. Keep going.”
✦✧✦✧✦
Throughout the day, Keys had dropped off several snacks on your desk, stuck up multiple post-it notes adorned with fun doodles on the glass partition between you, and sent you many more sweet messages.
If you were being honest, you had forgiven him after the second gesture. If Keys was being honest, he had figured that out about an hour ago. But now it was the end of your work day, and Keys just had to make sure you two were okay.
You were finishing up your last few emails of the day, and Keys had walked over to your side of the desk clump.
“Okay, I know you’re busy, but I really don’t want us to end the day on bad terms. Have you forgiven me yet?” He asked desperately.
“That depends.” You told him, a soft smirk gracing your face. “Do you have one more offer or did you just come here to beg on your knees?”
He wasn’t on his knees beside your chair with his hands clasped together, so that kind of gave you the answer, but he answered anyway.
“Will you forgive me if I buy you dinner? There’s that new Italian place down the street; we can go tonight and I’ll pay, even if it’s crazy expensive.”
You tried holding back the giddy smile you felt coming on because of his offer, but you were sure that the expression was peeking through your facade.
“That kind of sounds like a date.” You played innocent. “Keys, are you asking me out?”
“That depends. Have you forgiven me yet?”
“Not quite sure, I think you’ll have to take me out, and I’ll let you know soon.”

The Stockman Value
Fun Fact: Baxter Stockman is in the top three most recurring villains for TMNT.
Baxter Stockman
Baxter Stockman, son of Senator Robert Stockman, is the CEO and founder of Stockman Industries. His corporation amassed its massive wealth through the creation of the MOUSERS. Unlike most real-life billionaires, Stockman actually invents and builds all his horrible, unethical, and straight-up evil devices himself.
He has the confidence of his 2003 counterpart. He has a habit of blaming other people for his failures. He will do whatever it takes to gain more wealth and power.
At the start of the series he is hunting mutants. He believes they are the key to a new energy source. Which he will patent and hoard to make himself ten times richer. He doesn’t care if he has to tear the mutants apart, piece by piece.
Bebop & Rocksteady
Anton “Bebop” Zeck and Ivan “Rocksteady” Steranko are two of the most feared mercenaries in the world. As ruthless as they are dangerous, Bebop and Rocksteady never ask questions. Despite not being mutants, the pair are still a major threat to the turtles. Going toe-to-toe with them in fighting skill and prowess, and exceeding them in strength. Under the employment of Baxter Stockman, the pair has access to a variety of high-tech weapons and gadgets.
Zeck is not as big as his partner, but he is definitely not made of toothpicks like his 2012 self. He’s more focused on agility and gadgets, even known to tinker with Stockman’s tech, much to the businessman’s annoyance. Zeck is not lacking in strength in the slightest. His signature purple mohawk is less exaggerated in his human form. He, of course, has a deep appreciation of bebop jazz.
Steranko is big and wide. He is incredibly strong, and has mastered over 80 fighting styles. He, of course, has a deep appreciation of rocksteady jazz.
Chaplin
Chaplin is Stockman’s assistant and biggest fan. He’s basically the average twitter (legally known as X) user and Elon Musk defender. He thinks Stockman can do no wrong. He’s a sweet guy, if your name is Baxter Stockman. Otherwise, he’s as big of an asshole as the average Elon Musk defender.
MOUSERS and More
Throughout the series, we see a variety of MOUSERS and MOUSER adjacent robots.
Stockman Industries gained its positive public image through the MOUSERS, a multiple use robot. It’s pest control. It’s home security. It’s child entertainment. It’s a pseudo family pet. Connect to the MOUSER app on your phones. Call the number on your screen and receive the special Sonar MOUSER.
WRATHS. Emphasis on the RAT part. These are based heavily on the MOUSERS, but are much taller. Their proportions are similar to a velociraptor in the Jurassic Park series. Though the head is still perfectly round like a MOUSER. They are used for security. They are also sold for use in militaries, specifically the US military.
Mega MOUSER (Name pending). A MOUSER roughly the size of a double decker bus.
Metalhead
Internet username “Metalhead2021” (real name: Melanie) is Donnie’s online girlfriend. In reality, she is a robotic turtle built by Stockman Industries in order to lure the turtles into a trap. However, due to Chaplin’s faulty coding, she may have other plans.
Hun
Hunter “Hun” Mason is Baxter Stockman’s business rival. Hun is the CEO of the Purple Dragon Corporation, best known for producing a wide variety of vitamins and supplements. However, Hun’s big (obvious) secret is that he’s also the leader of the Black Dragon Gang, a crime gang that rules New York’s criminal underworld.
Hun is one of those alpha sigma male types.
Hun is basically his 2012 appearance stretched over his 2003 appearance.
Chris Bradford
Chris Bradford is the main spokesperson for the Purple Dragons Corporation. He’s a formerly famous actor, known for his action movies. He now appears in every ad from the PDC. Much like Shaquille O’Neal and The General.
He absolutely hates his coworker, Xiomara Montes.
Xiomara Montes
Xiomara “Fishface” Montes is the field leader of the Black Dragon Gang. She oversees most of the criminal operations as Hun has a gang and a corporation to run. The Black Dragon Gang’s base of operations and main front is the Ray Fillet Aquarium.
She absolutely hates her coworker, Chris Bradford.

Due to the previous ask I ended up thinking back to a fairytale themed book I really liked, but never got to talk about here: Indexing, by Seanan McGuire.
Now, this novel is not a typical novel in format - it is an ebook that was selled as a serial, so chapter after chapter released during a given period of time to finally make a full book. Hopefully I got to read the whole thing all at once, and while I know the “serial placed in one” book format doesn’t please everybody, I actually didn’t mind. Of course being French and into literature I am used to the “serial turned one book”, it was THE big format at a time, and it also worked like those old fantasy anthologies a la “Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser” where individual stories are collected together.
Anyway, what is “Indexing” about? We could say: SCP for fairytales. Or this cartoon for children, “Fairy Tale Police Department” turned into a dark adult urban fantasy.
In the world of “Indexing” fairytales are real, but not in the sense that they happened in the past or that they exist somewhere in another world. Fairytales happen everywhere, live among us, and if we do not see them it is all thanks to the good work of the ATI Management Bureau, who protects us from them. Because fairytales are actually live viruses or plagues, they are abstract sentient forces that seek out to be played, reality-warping scenarios that only care about happening one way or another, and are ready to ANYTHING to do so... (If you have read Pratchett’s works, such as “Witches Abroad”, you’ll recognize a similar take on the “fairy tale” here).
And the ATI Management Bureau is a special, secret organization of the USA whose task is to identify the stories that seek to happen, and prevent them from happening - or solving them with as little people hurt as possible. Because as it turns out, when fairytales try to happen in real-life, lives get damaged and bloody consequences ensues...
I do not want to talk more about it, because it is a short and simple concept that works really well in its simplicity. Discovering the life and identity of the characters is a key play of the pleasure here, and while the book starts with a “case by case anthology” format, clearly an over-arching story appears that blooms in the finale.
While it is a dark story, it is not a horror story. They do not shy away from the violent aspects of fairytales, and to feed into a dark urban fantasy style there are legitimate threats and darkness - it is a world where the wonders of fairytales make you shiver rather than smile. But it is not extremely harsh, and it doesn’t go into a really brutal form of horror. It is notably quite humoristic - but of course, it is dark humor. Morbid jokes, biting cynicism and creepy laughs are to be expected.
I however truly liked this book. I will not lie, I had a quite similar concept for a story of my own - and Seanan McGuire beat me to it X) But she did it in a very unique and personal style - a very clever style might I add - that truly made me enjoy this. For example one of the clever things I love about this world is how the ATI Management Bureau works - being “police officers” for fairytales they do refer to their potential cases by codes, as a policeman would use codes to refer to robberies, murders, assaults... But their codes are actually the ATU Index, which they use to try to identify which “case” they are in and what types of scenarios they are thrown into. It is a very fun element of worldbuilding, and it also allows to explore a story which is basically a guessing game.
It is another thing I really loved - it isn’t just “on-the-nose” about the world of fairytales. McGuire knows her stuff, and while the first cases are pretty straightforward “weird tales”, she then introduces us to an entire “guessing game” where the whole point is to understand which fairytale, or which type of fairytale, the characters find themselves in - with many misleading twists and turns, similar to a real-life investigation - and I just loved it. It plays so much with the codes and tropes of fairytales, and the study around them, I adored it.
(You also now probably understand why I called it “SCP for fairytales”)
The book got a sequel “Indexing: Reflections” which I read to and... didn’t like as much as the first one. Do not get me wrong, the first chapters and the first part of the sequel is really good - we explore more of the world of the first book, we have fascinating new additions, more twists... But the second part of the book becomes kind of “meh”. The great promises of the beginning are not fulfilled, the end is pretty formulaic, the explorations of the worldbuilding sometimes go nowhere, and also the “let’s explore more of this world” kind of turns against itself as the logic, rules and workings of the universe of the books gets stretched a lot sometimes, to the point I rolled my eyes a bit. A disappointing end to a good start - but the opening is still worth it I guess? But sequels are never better than the originals - we all know that.
So if you ever get a chance, don’t hesitate to take a peek at “Indexing”. If you are a fairytale fan, you won’t be disappointed (or I hope).

Free Guy Styling Thoughts
Something I just noticed is that at the end of Free Guy the way that Millie and Keys’ hair and clothes are styled is very different from the rest of the movie. At the end of the movie their hairstyles more accurately resemble how the actors wear their hair normally when doing press, Keys’ hair looks way more like the way Joe Keery wears it when he’s playing Steve on Stranger Things than it does throughout the rest of the movie, and Millie’s hair looks fuller, wavier, and more styled. I think this is intentional because of course when one is getting their big romantic moment one’s hair must look fabulous and it also represents where the characters are mentally at the end of the film versus at the beginning.
The change in appearance represents a change in the characters and where they are in their lives. Millie has been stuck in a loop, scrapping by, and spending all of her time in Free City, a game she hates, looking for proof of their code. Keys has also been stuck in a loop, working a job he hates to keep the nice apartment he has while dealing with Antwan’s nonsense and missing Millie while also not being able to talk to her because of the NDA he signed. For most of the movie, apart from their interview that’s from a few years prior, Keys’ hair appears to have been washed and either gelled or left to dry flat so that it falls in his face and has no volume. Which is why he’s constantly pushing it off his face and out of his eyes. Styling it would fix that problem but Keys isn’t willing to do that because that would require energy and a level of self-care that he just doesn’t have thanks to his situation.
At the end of the movie, after they’ve gotten the game back, launched Free Life, and Millie and Keys are back working together again alongside Mouser, and we find out that Antwan has been arrested, Keys’ hair is fluffed up and full of volume and he’s clearly spent time on it. He’s blowdried it and styled it and is clearly putting effort into his appearance in a way he hasn’t in years. He’s also putting more effort into his clothing choices. He looks great throughout the movie, but that blue shirt at the end is a step up. Oooof. Boy does he look hot in it! I think this represents where Keys is at at the end of the movie versus the beginning. He goes from living his life in a loop in this dull miserable existence working a dead end job he hates for a guy he hates and missing Millie who he can no longer speak to or interact with to getting to do what he loves for a living with people he cares about and genuinely likes, exposing Antwan for what he is, and getting to work and spend time with Millie again.
So of course he dresses up and spends more time on his hair! He wants Millie to see him at his best, he wants to impress her, and most importantly when you feel better you put more effort into your appearance because when you feel good you want to look good. Likewise, Millie goes from being stuck in a loop, spending all of her time in Free City, and just scrapping by to finally finding proof of their code, getting the game back, and realizing that she doesn’t need fame or money to prove to herself that she and Keys created something great. She no longer needs that external validation like she did before and finding the proof and exposing Antwan means that she gets to have Keys back in her life. You can tell by that look of betrayal and how angry she is during the scene at Keys’ apartment that she misses him just as much as he misses her.
But now she’s finally able to move forward and work on something she loves rather than spend all of her time on something she hates and you see that reflected in her appearance. For most of the movie, Millie’s hair is pulled back in a bun, a ponytail, or she’s left it down and it looks like all she’s done is washed it and let it air dry. The one exception to this is when we see her in the interview from a few years prior where her hair is straightened. But at the end of the movie, her hair is more styled, it’s wavier, and it’s got more of a curl to it indicating that she either curled it or used a styling brush and you can tell she spent time on it. Her outfit is more styled as well. If you look closely you can see she’s layered a white button up over a tank top, she’s wearing a decorative belt, and she’s clearly put thought into her outfit. It looks like something she deliberately picked out and tied just so rather than something she just threw on to get through another day of combing through Free City looking for their code.
All of which comes together when Keys asks Millie out for coffee and after she turns him down, Guy spells it all out for her and she goes after him and they finally get to have their big screen movie magic moment. So perfect! And you can see a change in Mouser’s appearance as well. If you watch closely you’ll notice that Mouser makes some pretty bold fashion choices throughout the film which works in his favour because he totally pulls it off! Earlier on in the movie we see him wearing sports attire and a colour coordinated bomber jacket, t-shirt, and jeans combo. At the end of the movie, after he and Keys have been fired from Soonami, started their own company with Millie, and have launched Free Life, we see him wearing a patterned blazer and a baseball cap.
It’s still a bold choice, but it’s a stepped up one and I think it’s important to note that when these characters put more effort into their appearances at the end of the movie they are doing it for themselves. Because they feel better about themselves and what they’re doing and when you feel better you put more effort into your appearance because you care more. Prior to the end of the movie they were just coasting along, stuck in a loop, going through the motions. But at the end of the film they’re free from that. I also think it’s worth noting that these characters put more effort into their appearances when all they are doing is sitting in Millie’s living room working and the only people who will see them regularly apart from each other are the baristas at the local coffee shop and the take out delivery guy.
These characters put more effort into their appearances when no one is really going to see them apart from people they already know and are friends with and a few customer service people than when they were out in the world, going into the office every weekday, or working in coffee shops because by the end of the movie their mental health has improved and their outlook on life has shifted. Before they were all doing the bear minimum to get by, look good, and do what needed to be done. Now, they’re putting in real effort because they feel good about what they’re doing, actually enjoy their work, and they don’t need that external validation anymore, and thus are finally on a path to real happiness. I love that the team behind this movie put so much thought into all of the little details from the way the characters dress and style their hair to their apartments. The attention to detail in this movie really pays off and I think that’s what makes it such a rewarding experience to watch and rewatch again and again.

Hard Times
Fandom: Free Guy Summary: Nothing makes her feel better than watching her boys, even when she has days like this. Warnings: Depression, mental health issues, and angst Word Count: 2197 Ship(s): Millie Rusk/Mouser/Walter "Keys" McKey
Archive link!
A/N: I based Millie's depression off of my own depressive episodes so if something seems off about it, that's why. I hope that this fic is good and that you all enjoy it! Stay sissy and bitchy everyone <3
The world seemed like it was basked in gray when she woke up.
It was like a void had grown in her stomach since she last went to sleep, yet she didn't want to fill it with food or coffee or ice cream like she did most days. The alarm clock on her nightstand told her that it was very late in the day, meaning that she had slept for almost ten hours straight. She still had no impulse to get out of bed. The sun was streaming through their blinds down onto the bed, bringing with it the sound of people talking in the street below and birds chirping noisily on the branches of the tree next to the window. Nothing that happened made her feel any better. Her boys had already woken up and left the bed, apparently both agreeing that they were going to let her sleep. Being alone in the bed, while she knew that they had meant well with it, seemed to make everything worse.
She turned in the bed so that she was parallel with the headboard. She grabbed Keys' pillow so that she was holding it up against her face. She could see out of the large arch that led to their bedroom since the curtain had been pushed up against the wall. The cord that they used to tie it back during the day so that they could air out the apartment was still hanging loose.
Keys was singing something while dancing around their living room. He was wearing nothing but his boxers and sleep shorts. For a moment she wondered where his shirt had gone, and then she saw her other boyfriend dancing after him with it clenched in his hand. Mouser was dressed in a long sleep shirt but was missing any pants, just covering his lower half with a pair of boxers. She couldn't quite here what they were singing over the pounding of her heart in her ears, but it made her happy to see them.
Almost as soon as the blackness had been turned to gray it was pitched back to the void. They were happy without her, dancing around and having the time of their lives. They didn't need her. She should just let them be a happy couple alone, without her. It was hard enough to be in a homosexual relationship in this world, they didn't need the added complication of a woman putting their sexualities into question and confusing everyone that saw them together.
Millie whimpered as she brought the blanket up in front of her eyes. It was hard to stop herself from crying despite how little energy it felt like she had. Her heart ached in her chest as she thought about just how much she loved her boyfriends and how much they didn't need her. No one needed her. Not even Guy; he was happy in his virtual world without her. Her entire game operated pretty much on its own now that the AI code she had written was actually working. They barely even needed her to log onto work to fix bugs this far into the build.
"She's up!"
The voice cut through the music playing from the kitchen and the voices in her head. Before she could think to wipe the tears off of her face, the mattress bent under the weight of two shapes coming from each side and the blanket was moved away from her.
"Good morning, beautiful," Keys smiled. The expression dipped off his face as soon as he saw the tear tracks down her cheeks. "Love, you okay?"
She sat up and then wiped them off with her wrist. It wasn't very effective but it did leave her feeling like she had done something. "I'm fine, guess I was just crying in my sleep."
The two boys in front of her glanced at each other as if having a silent conversation. "Do you want pancakes?"
"It's almost noon," she argued.
Mouser waved her concern off with one hand, "We didn't get around to making breakfast until about an hour ago and we still haven't put anything on the griddle. We kept getting distracted."
Keys turned a beautiful shade of red, and drew a giggle from the dark place in her chest. "Come on, let's get some food. Maybe you can keep us from being distracted every thirty seconds." He moved forward on the bed so that he was right in front of her. Carefully, he drew her legs around his hips so that she was sitting in his lap. Eventually, Millie dropped the blanket so that it was in a lump on their bed and wrapped her arms loosely around his shoulders. Keys placed his arms so that they were around her waist and butt before he scooted them off the bed. He carried her into the kitchen, where flour and egg shells littered their counter. "I love you," he murmured into her hair.
"I know," she replied, giving him a kiss on the cheek.
He laughed, smiling brightly as he sat her down on top of their table. "Did you just Han Solo me?"
"Maybe," she replied shyly. She had released him enough when he set her down that she was able to play with the bits of his hair that were hanging around his neck. "Where did your shirt go?"
"Oh, uh, it was covered in egg so Mouser decided that he was going to 'help' me with it and took it off for me.” He rolled his eyes, “Then he wanted to do more so I started singing and dancing away from him and then I guess we both just got distracted."
"You two are always distracted. Mostly because his mind is always on sex and you're too nervous to yell at him like I am," she chuckled.
"It's part of my charm," he smirked. "Can I kiss you?"
She considered it for a moment before she nodded and tilted her head up. Keys cupped the side of her face and then brought their lips together in a sweet kiss. She eventually let her fingers wander up so that they were woven together with the thick brown curls on the back of his head. He kept one hand on her thigh, making sure that her legs were still wound around his hips while the other one continued to rub over the top of her cheek.
"This doesn't look like making breakfast."
They broke apart with a laugh upon hearing the disgruntled comment from their boyfriend. Millie dropped her legs from where they had been around her smaller boyfriend to look at Mouser. "Sorry, I think I distracted him this time."
"You definitely did," they both agreed. Mouser tossed a shirt in the direction of the other man, hitting him square in the face. As Keys tugged the fabric over his top so that he was finally covered, Mouser began to finish mixing the pancake batter. Keys got a couple mugs from the corner and then busied himself with something on the counter that she couldn't see. She watched the two of them dancing around each other to the music playing from the speaker next to her on the table.
"Coffee, cream and two sugars," Keys said as he handed her the mug full of coffee. He then turned to their other partner. He swapped the items in their hands so that he was dumping the batter into the pan and Mouser was then holding the other mug of coffee.
"Where's yours?" Mouser asked. He wrapped one arm around the taller man's waist and then placed his chin on his shoulder so he could watch the pancakes cooking.
Keys shrugged, moving Mouser's head just a little bit. "I'm making some decaf so that I can have it half regular and half decaf," he answered.
"I'll make it for you while you focus on making our girl breakfast," he kissed his boyfriend's cheek before he detached from him fully. He walked over to Millie so that he was standing in the same place that Keys had been. His voice was warbling the lyrics of the 80s style song that was blasting through their apartment. She cupped her drink in both hands as she watched him. He had his eyes closed and was swaying back and forth as he sang. He looked so beautiful, and it allowed the darkness in her heart and soul to be filled with love and longing for a moment.
Millie sipped at her coffee when the song came to a close. "Thank you for that wonderful performance," she smiled over the edge of the mug.
"You're welcome, beautiful," he beamed at her in return. "I love you," he pressed a kiss to her forehead.
"I love you too," she replied shyly.
Mouser walked back over to their boyfriend as the pancakes began to come off the griddle. He helped Keys get them all onto the serving plate before he began to get the toppings out of the fridge and the cupboards. "What are you in the mood for, beautiful?"
"I'll get it," she said, preparing to slip off of the table.
"What if we want to take care of you?" Keys was almost pouting as he turned to face her.
A small smile began to grace her features and she rearranged herself so that she was properly up onto the table. "I can't say no to that face and you know it," she chuckled.
"I do, that's why I use it whenever I want something," he moved over to her so that their lips pressed together in a chaste kiss. "So what do you want on your pancakes?"
She thought for a moment, finishing off the last of her coffee. "Can I have peanut butter and nutella?"
"If we have any nutella left," Mouser muttered under his breath.
Keys let out a little indignant noise. He had finished making pancakes so was depositing the dishes into the sink to be taken care of later. He turned around so that he was wrapped around the other man while looking at the meal he was preparing over his shoulder. "Are you still mad at me?"
Millie was unable to contain her laughter. She placed her hand over her mouth as she watched them interacting with each other. She loved them more than anything in the world, and moments like this reminded her of that. "I caught you eating nutella out of the jar! With a spoon! You couldn't even pretend that you were putting it on toast or bread or leftover pancakes or anything other than just a spoon!"
"It's good!"
"You're a monster," he laughed, elbowing his lover away from him. "An absolute monster, and I can't believe that it took me almost a year into our romantic relationship and two years into living together to figure out that you eat nutella out of the container directly. Like a dog that needs help taking pills."
Keys laughed, tossing his arms around Mouser's shoulders so that he could bring the other man in for a kiss. The programmer replied just long enough that their boyfriend was sated before he ushered him over to the table to sit next to Millie. Keys reached over, threading their fingers together while they watched their partner work on getting their meal ready. Keys placed his head down on her shoulder, whisper-singing the lyrics to the song that was playing. He paused when she didn't sing with him, "Are you okay?"
"Just having a hard day, I guess," she replied. She still felt tired and the depression was creeping forward from the back of her mind. The care and love that her partners were showing her certainly gave her the energy to fight it back, but it was difficult.
"Okay, we're here for you if you need us," he murmured. He pressed a gentle kiss to her cheek.
"We're always here for you if you need us," Mouser replied. He handed the plate of food over to her. There were four pancakes, two spread with nutella and two spread with peanut butter. She slipped off of the table and then sat down in one of the chairs. Keys did the same, taking his own plate from the other man's hand. His own pancakes were covered with butter and soaked with syrup. "Disgusting, just how you like it," Mouser informed him, stabbing the strawberry on top of his own pancakes.
"You're so mean to me. Do it more," he winked playfully in reply.
She smiled as they began to snipe back and forth between bites of food. They included her every so often, but let her mostly be by herself. She liked it better, when she was having days like this, when they let her be in her own head and have her thoughts instead of trying to force them from her. They both knew that she could handle herself and she would come to them if she needed help. Until she did, they would support her and love her unconditionally by her side. She'd be alright, since she got to be around her boys.

Have you read chapter 8 of Sam LaRusso’s Guide to Understanding Hawk? If you haven’t, then definitely go check it out! Here’s a little snippet to motivate you:
“Sam lets out a sigh at the feeling, not used to his hands on her body. Her mind goes fuzzy, and she finds herself looking up at him. His blue eyes hold gentleness, and… love? He gives her a smile that leaves her thinking her heart might beat out of her chest.
His effect on her has always been confusing. Even before the project, Sam remembers taking note of how his arms would flex in a fight, or how his lips would quirk when he knows he’s right. All those banter filled conversations— they all left Sam feeling confused. But now — after observing him, learning everything she can about him — Sam knows why he causes such feelings.”
Next chapter: All Valley Tournament, and some run ins with Cobra Kai 👀

Can you do a Walter Mckey x reader, where reader sees Millie and Keys being all buddy buddy and gets jealous and leaves the room and so Keys follows reader and then he tries to figure out what’s wrong and reader blurts out that they love him
CANT STAND IT
summary: after seeing keys get close to millie again, you cant stand around and watch
warnings: angst? kinda? also short because after having to re-write this a billion times ive given up on making it longer.
keys and milles laughter echoed through the room. it had been a week after you all started working on bringing back life itself. you had originally joined their team after meeting keys at a coffee shop, he noticed you working on code at one of the tables and offered you his number. a week later you had helped behind the scenes with the game.
after life itself was finished they sold the game to soonami, and you all had gone your separate ways. keys had cut off contact from both of you, and you and millie stopped talking shortly after. so it was a surprise when millie contacted you about finding your underlying code in free city.
now you were standing in millies kitchen, glass of water in hand slightly getting irritated at their giggles. you peeked out the kitchen and saw a large smile on both their faces, you felt an ache in your chest as keys looked at millie like she put the stars in the sky. you wanted him to look at you like that.
you put your glass in her sink and walked into her living room grabbing your bag. you shut off your computer and walked out the room without saying a word. keys and millie looked at each-other confused, while mouser just rolled his eyes at them and went back to working.
you had clicked the button for the elevator when you heard a door open and quickly shut, a glimpse of keys face appearing in the crack of the door before it fully shut. you let out a sigh of relief, quickly getting out the elevator and starting the walk back to your apartment.
“y-y/n!” you could hear keys call out from behind you, the feeling of his hand on your shoulder making you jump. you turned around to look at him and he looked at you confused, “hey? why’d you leave is everything alright?” you nodded, looking down at your feet. “yeah. yeah everything’s fine don’t worry i just got tired.”
keys could easily tell you were lying, you had looked upset and you werent making eye contact, your hands were balled into fists and you impatiently tapped your feet. “no you arent y/n come on just talk to me-” you finally snapped. “im fine! can i go home now?” keys sighed. “im coming to your apartment and we’re gonna talk about this okay?”
you let out a groan and kept walking back to your apartment, keys silently walking next to you, trying to figure out what he would say. you walked into your apartment building and got into the elevator, still not saying a word to each-other. you could feel his eyes burning into the side of your head, suddenly feeling nervous under his stare.
it stayed silent as you two walked in, you put your bag away and keys leaned against the back of your couch, watching your movements. you looked at keys and rolled your eyes. “what keys?” he sighed. “you’ve been acting weird for a few days.. i just wanna know whats going on.”
“nothings wrong just drop it already.” he grabbed your arm as you were about to grab the tv remote. “come on. please just talk to me.” you finally snapped. “its you keys! you’re the problem! god i cant stand you and millie together because im fucking in love with you and i cant stand watching you two together!” his grip on your arm began to soften before it fully fell off.
he stood silent for a moment, the words that came out of your mouth finally registering in your brain. your eyes widened and you quickly backed away from him, a large ache in your chest. you both stood quietly on opposite sides of the room, you were right by the door of your bedroom and keys was still by the couch. you moved to walk in your room but he quickly spoke up.
“youre in love with me?” tears filled your eyes, that suffocating feeling in your chest growing and growing. he walked up to you and cupped your cheek in his hand, wiping away the tears that managed to slip from your eyes. “hey hey please don’t cry. c-come on look at me please.” he gently gripped your chin and made you look at him, his face softening even more as he saw the pool of tears gathering.
“i love you too okay? i always have.” you shook your head, the tears freely falling out of your eyes. “keys don’t lie to me don’t say things like that please stop” you looked down at the ground and you felt his hand on your chin again quickly lifting your head up and kissing you. he felt your stiffed figure slowly melt as he wrapped an arm around your waist pulling you closer.
your lips fit together like perfect puzzle pieces, you both kissed for about a minute before pulling away, looking up at keys with wide eyes. he softly smiled and kissed your forehead mumbling quietly. you looked up at him confused and he softly smiled. “i asked if you believed me now.”

Driver's License | Keys
You decide to tease your friend after seeing his real name on his ID — coworker!keys x reader fluff
warnings: alcohol consumption since the oneshot takes place at a bar
words: 0.8k
a/n: this is my first keys fic and I know this is niche as hell but i've been obsessed with him lately so expect more lol
The bar was one of the more popular ones—which means there’s sometimes a line outside in the cold—but it was the one you always went to because it was walking distance from work. You, Keys, and Mouser stood in line shivering and wondering what was taking so damn long.
“Should we just go somewhere else?” You asked the guys.
“No, it’s fine.” Keys answered. “We’re almost at the front anyways.”
Mouser looked like he was about to say otherwise, but then dropped his protests. “Keys, can you like, stand on your toes and see what’s going on?”
He obliged and stood up as tall as he could, looking for the front of the line. After a few seconds of the most perfect posture you’d ever seen on your friend, he slumped back down to his normal height.
“It’s not the regular bouncer. This one’s checking, like, everyone’s IDs for five minutes each.” Keys explained, pulling out his wallet already.
You held back a laugh at the obvious hyperbole and thanked him for the update on what was taking this line so long to move.
Keys was right; you were actually close to the front of the line. It was still unbearably cold and it wasn’t even winter yet. Keys saw your discomfort and wrapped an arm around you. Maybe that was more than a coworker slash friend should do, but hey, you work at a video game company: nothing was really like other workplaces.
Once you were finally at the doors, the new bouncer asked for IDs from all three of you—which you thought was ridiculous because none of you looked like you were minors—and thoroughly scanned each one of them.
Yours was first, and maybe the quickest. Mouser showed his ID next, and then it was Keys’ turn. The worker looked at his driver’s license for longer than he had yours and Mouser’s, then passed it back to Keys with the card in between his index and middle finger.
Keys seemed to be in a rush to put it back into his wallet, and when you caught a glimpse of it as he shut the leather flaps, you understood why.
Your friend had never told you his real name before. Come to think of it, you weren’t sure he’s told anyone. What was perhaps his biggest secret was now in your hands, and there were infinite possibilities on what to do with it.
You kept quiet while the group picked a booth to sit at, then went up to order a round of kamikaze shots to start the night off with a bang. After you’d all taken one shot together, Mouser went off to use the washroom, leaving just you and Keys together.
Impatient as always, you had decided now was the time to do something with your newly acquired information. Biting back a smile, you tried to act as inconspicuous as possible.
“You know what?” You started. “I know we still have a round of shots, but I’m gonna head up to the bar and get something with as many maraschino cherries as they’ll let me have. Do you want anything?”
He shook his head, smiling at your drink request. “No, I’m alright. I’ll stay here.”
You stood up, bringing a dollar bill from your purse to tip the bartender. “Okay, I’ll be back, Walter.”
He didn’t even notice your use of his name at first. But when your words played back over in his head—as most things you say to him do—his eyes widened and he shot up from the seat.
“How did you— I don’t tell people my real name.” Keys said softly but urgently.
You smiled at him. “I know. I saw it on your driver’s license outside. I just wanted to tease you a bit since I’m now one of the only people in the world who knows it.”
“You are.” He confirmed. “Just, please don’t use it at work or anything. I just think it’s embarrassing.”
“More embarrassing than ‘Keys’?” You giggled. You started walking towards the bar, and he followed closely behind. “You don’t need to worry, though. I like being the keeper of your secret.”
Relief washed over his face. “Thank you.”
You waved over one of your favourite bartenders, then brought your attention back to Keys. “Just for the record, I actually like your real name. It’s like a cute old man you live next to and bring in the newspaper for.”
He bit the inside of his cheek and stood up from the barstool. “You know, just for that, I do want a drink. You’re buying it for me.”
You rubbed his upper arm to confirm there was nothing bad between you. “I’ll surprise you, Walt.” You told him as he walked back to your booth.
Unsurprisingly, you were met with his turned back and a middle finger flipped at you.

TMNT 2036 Season 1
Ok so. I've laid out all the big players for my iteration. While there are still a few characters I want to go over, I think now I can actually go over some of my ideas for episodes, plotlines, and arcs. (Arcs will last around 13 episodes).
? Guide: One question mark means I don't know the order. Two question marks mean I don't know the order and the title. Three question marks mean I have a vague concept.
Arc One: Father Bother
As the turtles begin to explore the surface, an overbearing Splinter accompanies them. We set up the key players here.
Episode 1: "Welcome to Stockman Industries." On their 15th birthday, the turtles finally get to accompany Splinter to the surface. After some brief shenanigans, they are caught by MOUSERS. They are locked up, with Splinter being separated from them, and are planned to be experimented on. Local hacktivist April O'Neil, after discovering some shady things during her internship, attempts to expose Stockman Industries. She gets caught. To avoid leaving evidence, Stockman attempts to have her be eaten by the the turtles. Fortunately, they don't (though Raph is tempted). The turtles and April team up to escape and rescue Splinter. They take on WRATHS and MOUSERS. Bebop and Rocksteady easily overpower the turtles. April frees Splinter and he easily overpowers Bebop and Rocksteady. They all escape. Concerned with the Toe Clan's abilities, Stockman calls Shredder.
Episode 2: "Back to the Sewers". We explore the turtle's lair. The turtles and April try to convince Splinter to let the turtles back onto the surface. After an attack from some MOUSERS, Splinter agrees, for his family will never be safe until Stockman is stopped. Also, getting out of the lair would help prevent it from being discovered. Shredder reviews the footage of the turtles sent by Stockman, and sets his sights on them.
Episode 3: "The Technodrome". The Toe Clan and April go to the Technodrome, the coolest arcade in NYC. Shenanigans ensue. Stockman and Chaplin hack the robotic employees to attack the Toe Clan. At the end its revealed to the audience that the manager, Craig, is some pink, squishy brain thing. He plans to keep the turtles quiet at any cost.
Episode ?: "Misstep". Upon discovering the connection between the Foot Clan and Stockman, April O'Neil does some investigation and discovers the Foot Clan's criminal activity. Splinter, in disbelief that the Clan would go down this path, leads a mission to confront the Foot Clan. It's in this episode that we learn Splinter's pre-mutation backstory. We hear the greatness of Oroku Saki. Ironically, the Toe Clan has their first fight with Foot Elite. Note: Sometime before this episode (or maybe even in this episode) I want the turtles to tell April each of their conflicting ideas about Splinter's origin. Leo believes Splinter was once human and a respected ninja master, who was turned into a rat mutant by his fallen pupil. Raph believes that Splinter was once a famous action movie star, who spent years fighting in a death arena full of monsters. The exposure to gallons of monster blood slowly turned him into a rat mutant. Donnie believes that Splinter is the only successful attempt at a government project aimed to resurrect history's greatest warriors in order to create an unstoppable army. Mikey says a rat was accidentally enrolled in a dojo. The rat was later struck by lighting and turned into a rat mutant.
Episode ?: "A Day At The Aquarium". The Toe Clan and April go to the aquarium. They discover that it's a front for the Black Dragons Gang. They fight the Black Dragons and their gang leader, Xiomara Montes.
Episode ???: Introduce Hun and The Purple Dragon Corporation.
Episode ???: Introduce Bishop and X-Triad Agents. Supermarket set.
Episode ???: Mutant of the Week
Episode ???: Comic con adventure (subject to be moved).
Episode ? ?: "Wyrm Removal". The Toe Clan and April try to save the mutant worm, Wyrm. He doesn't make it easy.
Episode ?: "Unfriendly Competition". The turtles and April are trying to get enough Technodrome Tickets in order to get a limited edition Genghis Frog action figure. Unfortunately, some of April's bullies are after it too. Note: Karai and Casey (and Natsu?)
Episode ???: Leatherhead returns to the turtles. Splinter is not happy.
Episode 13: "Wrong Foot Forward". The Foot Clan and Stockman Industries enter an official partnership in order to take down The Purple/Black Dragons and The Toe Clan. Splinter breaks his leg. Note: Well, Splinter actually doesn't break his leg, Foot Elite breaks it. You see Foot Elite has a power-level of 4 turtles, meaning that really only Splinter can go one on one with him. At first, Splinter is going all out on him. However, during the fight, Foot Elite's hat and faceplate is knocked off, revealing that he's Oroku Saki. This is a shock to Splinter and the audience. Well, maybe. Even as the Foot Elite, Saki still uses his vambraces. Meanwhile, Hattori Tatsu as Shredder uses only a sword. Now that Splinter knows he's fighting his former master, best friend, and brother, he starts holding back. This held him open to a devastating attack by Saki. Note 2: The partnership results in Foot Tech Ninjas and prototype Footbots.
Arc Two: Bad Friends
Episode 14: "First Steps". Wanting revenge, the turtles attempt to take the Foot Clan head on and sabotage their deal with Stockman. But without Splinter leading them, the mission faces major setbacks. Meanwhile, Splinter tries to join the boys despite his leg. A mysterious figure makes this even harder. Note: It's The Rat King. And he's gonna be with Splinter for the rest of this arc.
Episode 15 "Rat Cage": The turtles do everything in their power to make sure Splinter stays put and heals. Escapades ensue. Meanwhile, Donnie gets an online girlfriend. Note: This is mainly so we have time for "Metalhead2021" to be regularly mentioned throughout the latter half of the season. This is a surprise tool that will help us later.
Episode ???: Turtles learn Craig's true identity: Krang. Note: Must come before "My Lab Teacher's a Monkey"
Episode ??: Bishop is forced to team up with Zog. After an "accident" with her breathing apparatus, the turtles get their own personal Triceraton Warrior.
Episode ???: Meet Nobody
Episode ?: "My Lab Teacher's a Monkey". April is stuck with Casey as a lab partner. Krang gives the turtles special holographic technology to look like humans. They attend school with April. An accident results in the mutation of April's science teacher, Dr. Rockwell.
Epsiode ??: Bishop leads an all out attack on Krang.
Episode ???: Foot Tech Ninjas
Episode ???: Mutant of the Week
Episode ???: Protoype Foot Bot
Episode ??: Thinking that his brothers aren't doing enough to stop the Foot, Raph becomes the vigilante Nightwatcher. He meets the vigilante Skullcrusher, and the two become a force to be reckoned with.
Episode ??: Donnie finally meets his online girlfriend face to face. His brothers are incredibly suspicious.
Episode 26: "The Gauntlet". With Stockman's new mech suit about to be unveiled, The Toe Clan springs into action. Splinter has a rematch with Foot Elite. The Turtles face the Shredder. Everyone faces the Stockman Pod.

Left Out
Requested by: Anonymous
Pairing: Keys x reader
Genre: Angst, Fluff
Characters: Keys, Y/N
Description: Keys, Millie and Mouser are working together on their new project: ‘Free Life’. Y/N doesn’t feel included in this new project so they walk away.
You watched on as Keys, Millie and Mouser huddled together around a computer to get started on the programming for the new project: Free Life. Considering you were one of the minds behind the original game you weren’t really being included in this project, which really surprised you. You’ve lost track of the amount of times you’ve tried to voice some ideas at the others; every time you did, each idea was either ignored or shot down so eventually, you just gave up.
Sadness overcame you as you watched your boyfriend and two best friends laugh and joke with each other whilst working on the game that you should be included in. You turned on your heel and walked down the hallway, out of the building.
Tears streamed down your face as you let out all of the emotions you had been holding in for the past few weeks. What really hurt though, was that Keys didn’t even try and defend your ideas. He threw them away, just like the other two did. It felt as though he didn’t appreciate your thoughts and ideas on the project and that really frustrated you.
As soon as you seen your front door you started to cry heavier. You threw the door open and ran up the stairs to your bed and crawled under the covers which is where you stayed before falling asleep.
------------------------------------
The front door slamming closed and a frantic voice awoke you from your sleep. “Y/N? Are you here?” You could hear Keys hurriedly looking around downstairs, things clanging on the floor as he rushed around. You were still a little groggy from sleep so you didn’t have a chance to answer before he barged into your room with a relieved look on his face.
“Y/N! Why didn’t you answer me? I was worried sick! You ran off without saying anything and I thought that something bad had happened to you!” Keys rushed over to you and engulfed you into a hug, which you didn’t reciprocate. He leaned back with a confused look on his face. “Are you Ok?” You stared at him with an expressionless face. “What do you think?! Read my face, Keys.”
The confused look stayed on his face as he tried to think of what could have angered you but came up with nothing. You shook your head in frustration before holding it in your hands. “Why am I not surprised that you don’t know why I’m upset? You’ve hardly been on my side recently but it still hurts that you can’t figure out why I’m upset.”
Keys furrowed his eyebrows. “What in the hell are you talking about, Y/N?! I’m on your side for everything!” You interrupted him before he could continue. “I’m talking about the fact that you have blatantly left me out of this project. The ideas and thoughts I have given out have all been shoved back in my face and it really hurt when I didn’t get any support from you over it what-so-ever! You’re my boyfriend, Keys, you’re supposed to help me through these things and listen to what I have to say instead of treating it like trash. It just makes me feel as if I’m not wanted there anymore.”
Your voice began to crack as you finished your sentence. Letting out all of what you had wanted to say seemed to have lifted a weight off your chest. Keys immediately wrapped his arms around you and pulled you into his chest, kissing the top of your head.
“I’m so sorry, baby. I didn’t realise which makes me one hell of a horrible boyfriend. I should have listened to your ideas more instead of just throwing them away. I promise I will make this up to you, Y/N, no matter what it takes. Any ideas you have, just throw them my way right now and I will incorporate them into the game.”
Your eyes lit up with happiness and you pressed a soft and forgiving kiss to his lips before resting your forehead against his. “Thank you, Keys. That’s all I wanted.” You pecked his lips once more before reaching into the drawer of your bedside table and pulling out a large notebook full of your ideas and plonked it on his lap. “Where would you like to start?”

"Is she really just a friend?" Walter Mckeys x Reader |A to F|
Warnings: Negative Thoughts, Angst, Eating Disorder, Swear Words.
You focused outside the window, seeing the city lights glow. Keys and Millie had been hanging out a lot. You and Keys are in a relationship but it feels like Keys is slipping away from You to the arms of Millie. You were just laying in your shared bed, scrolling through your phone. 'Wow it seems like Millie and Keys are having a good time' You thought as you scrolled through Millie's Instagram. You got out of bed and looked in the mirror. ' Wow i look real fucked up' You thought. You went to the closet and grabbed a Hoodie. You walked to the kitchen and opened the fridge. 'Not Hungry Anymore' You thought as you closed the fridge and walked away. You walked back to your room and closed the door. You laid back down and looked at the ceiling. It felt like hours but it had only been a few minutes until you heard the front door open and close. "Y/N im home!" Keys yelled like he was excited or something. 'No Baby, No Honey, No Darling? What did i do?' You thought because Keys always called you Baby, Darling,Love, etc. Keys ran into the room and straight into the closet. "Hey Baby, Could we hangout tonight, like just the two of us?" I asked. "Sorry Love but Millie and Mouser invited me to a party and i really want to go" He said as he put on his shoes. "Bye Darling, ill see you later!" Keys spoke and he ran to the front door and closed it. This has been going on for a few days until Keys noticed that you have been getting paler and paler everyday. One day, Keys went to work and came back late at night. "Honey?" Keys yelled as he walked in the door. He put his stuff down and walked to your shared room. When he reached the door, He heard a loud sob. Keys opened the door and he saw you sobbing. "Darling?" He kneeled down next to you. He looked at your phone and saw what made you Sob. Him and Millie Kissing... "Oh Baby look at me" He whispered. You shook your head. "Is she just a friend?" You whispered. "Yes Baby, Millie is just a friend to me because I love you so much, Y/N." "B-But-" "Y/N i love you so much that i get so happy when i wake up everyday just to see your face" He said. He wiped your tears with his thumb and gave you a soft kiss on your lips. "I love you so much that i designed a NPC for you in Free City" He mumbled. You nuzzled your face in his chest, listening to the sound of his heartbeat to calm you down. "I love you Keys." "And i love you Y/N" He whispered as he kissed your forehead.

video love letter
A/N: hi hi hi! this is a little one-shot i wrote after watching Free Guy. for reference, my s/i is a musician who writes tracks for Soonami Games.
Ship: Keys x Olive (s/i)
Summary: Neither Keys nor Olive had ever said anything aloud about their affection for one another, but Millie could see it plain as day.
Millie watches, entranced, as Olive grins and rests her chin on Keys’ shoulder. The broadcast he’s pulled up on his computer shows their former boss throwing a temper tantrum in front of a slew of cameras, shoving at the microphones that interviewers begin pushing his way. She can hear the pair giggling.
“... embattled Soonami game founder Antwan Hovachelik finds himself in the crosshairs.” The reporter on screen continues. With each word Millie can feel her chest growing lighter. She’d been taught her whole life not to wish suffering on others, to be kind and feel empathy, and here she was, a minute away from grabbing the bottle of Chardonnay she kept in the cabinets and making a toast to Antwan’s tears.
The trio had been dumb when they’d sold their souls to Soonami games back in the day. Millie and Keys, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, signing away the rights to a game they’d poured their hearts and souls into, and Olive naively following at their heels when Antwan had purred at her to hand over her recording masters to Soonami Enterprises. She didn’t know Antwan, she’d said, but if her best friend and her at-the-time girlfriend trusted him enough, she should too, right?
And so she’d given her express consent for the company to use, change, and sell any and all music she created for Free City. Without any notice necessary. She’d created a beautiful tracklist of 18 songs, some short catchy ditties, some long, synth-driven beats that she’d spent hours picking apart. The first time she listened to them in Free City, all chopped up and remixed with a strong EDM bassline, she’d cried like a baby. Millie had felt so bad she’d thrown up.
“Crosshairs,” Keys says thoughtfully. “He’s in the crosshairs and embattled.” Olive laughs and knocks her forehead affectionately against the side of Keys’ head. He’s an enigma, their best friend. The same guy who cries at the end of every predictable romcom can hold a grudge like no other person she’s ever met. Millie can tell, just by his tone of voice, that he’s going to hate Antwan with his whole being until the day he dies. Maybe after that, too.
Millie sighs, though she’s smiling. “We’re too busy to gloat.” She nudges Olive as she says it, knowing she’s about to join in.
“Speaking of busy,” Mouser says over the sounds of Antwan’s cries of victimization. “We just doubled the amount of unique visitors we can handle.” He leans on a nearby router, looks over the trio like he can’t believe what he’s saying. “It’s amazing, who’d have thought that so many people would just want to watch video game characters instead of shoot at them?”
Olive’s nose crinkles, the glint of her lip gloss catching in the low light as she pretends to think. Millie shares the look, and Keys joins in soon after. “Oh yeah, we did.” Keys corrects, and Olive lifts her head from his shoulder to exchange a hi-five with him.
“Alright, alright, let’s get back to it,” Millie interrupts. She seats herself at her desk, opens up the file for Free Life, and is about to slide her headphones on when she hears it.
“You’re so cute when you brag.”
It’s Olive’s voice, sweet as honey off the comb and followed by the sound of skin on fabric- she’d patted his arm. Then there’s the sound of her tiny white shoes on the hardwood floor, and her plopping down on the couch where she usually does her writing. Millie whirls around at breakneck speed, eager to see if this is finally, finally happening.
Keys and Olive have known each other almost as long as they’d been alive. As recounted to her by Olive in college, they met at summer camp in sixth grade when a boy pushed Keys out of a tree and broke his glasses. Olive had tried fixing them with glitter glue and a little pink bandaid, and the pair were inseparable ever since. They were pen pals all through middle and high school, only seeing each other on weekends and holidays and summers, until their mutual acceptance to MIT brought them together.
When Millie had entered the picture during their freshman year, Olive and Keys had already known each other for seven years, and while she’d always had suspicions that the pair were harboring secret affection for one another, when Olive had asked her out on a date, she’d accepted. Olive was sweet and pretty, and spoke highly of the people she loved, and maybe Millie had gotten romantic and platonic feelings confused, because their relationship had fizzled out soon after. Queerness was a journey to explore for both of them.
Neither of them had ever said anything aloud about their affection for one another, but Millie could see it plain as day the moment she was newly single. Keys took cans of soda from Olive’s hands and opened them unprompted, insisting she didn’t mess up her nails. Olive answered every single phone call, text, and video chat request from Keys in record time. They were fucking idiots.
Now, Millie locks eyes with Keys the second Olive is distracted, submerged in her PC. He looks fully bewildered, eyes wide and cheeks flushed sugar pink. The smile on his dumb face has yet to melt.
Mouser caches his gaze first. He gestures first to Olive, then brings his hands to his heart, nodding solemnly. Millie can’t help but agree with his silent monologue.
When Keys begins to turn in his chair, she bats at his shoulder. She also doesn’t say anything, knowing she doesn’t have to. A hard stare says enough, she thinks. Her eyes flicker to Olive, who’s now donning a pair of headphones and chewing her lower lip, visibly lost in thought. When she looks back at Keys, the defeat is visible on his face, and Millie almost feels bad for a second before remembering how many times he’s given her those same eyes to get out of random shit in the past- and succeeded. She doubles down, pursing her lips.
Though she can tell he’s nervous, he concedes and slides his glasses off his nose. Millie turns in her chair, pulling her headphones over her ears and hitting the mute button so she can eavesdrop.
She hears the creak of his chair move as he stands, the sound of him shuffling- achingly slow, mind you- across the floor and stopping before the couch. Being the nosy person she is, Millie dims the brightness of her computer monitor so she can see their silhouettes behind her. “Hey,” he starts, a hand landing on Olive’s shoulder. The girl tugs her headphones down onto her neck, gifting him her full attention, which is so cute Millie has to bite her cheek to stifle her smile. “Um, do you wanna come grab a coffee with me?”
Fucking idiot.
To her left, Mouser groans. Yeah.
“Oh!” Olive smiles nonetheless. “I’m actually in the middle of a new track and I don’t wanna lose the ideas I have. But thank you.” She pats a manicured hand against Keys’ own, and slides her headphones back on.
Keys stands still, for some reason shocked that she didn’t catch onto his pathetic attempt. “Okay. Yeah.” He shifts, puts a hand into his pocket as he makes his way for the front door of Millie’s apartment. “I’ll just uh, grab you one.” He says.
There’s a beat, and for a second Millie thinks she’s going to have to put her fucking head through a wall at how awkward that was. Then Olive speaks again. “Oh, Keys, um-”
“I know,” he cuts her off, and from his spot in the doorway, Millie can see the soft curl of his lips, fond in the way he always has been toward their friend. “Small iced, caramel with extra cream.”
If Olive grins any harder, Millie thinks her face will crack in half. “Yeah,” she says, quieter than she had. When Keys leaves the apartment, she watches him go.
Millie presses a hand to the space between her eyebrows, rubs soothing circles to alleviate some secondhand stress. Whatever. She supposes they’ll try again later. She’s more than willing to play matchmaker for the foreseeable future if it means she’s not stuck in the middle of two morons and their wistful glances anymore.
She logs into the game, meets Guy to say her goodbyes.
When she starts speaking, it’s quiet, and she can’t exactly find the words. How do you break up with someone who isn’t even real, let alone your boyfriend?
Guy does it for her. He puts it all out there, in exactly the way she would want to say it if she could find the words. “I created this world, but I can’t live in it,” he says. Onscreen, his hand pats at her shoulder. “See? Was that so hard?”
She smiles, then takes a breath before adjusting her mic. “So, what are you gonna do?” It’s incredible, she thinks, a fully formed AI on her screen, so lifelike that it’s giving her advice.
A tilt of his pixelated head. “Whatever I want. Thanks to you.” His face smiles at her onscreen one. “I’m not stuck in a loop anymore, neither are you.”
It’s a little silly, she realizes, but the fondness that curls in her chest is so warm that she’s willing to overlook it. She’s gifted him so much, she realizes. All this time she’s wondered if the contributions she’d made to Free City were enough, and here she is standing before intelligent artificial life that she not only created, but freed.
“I love you, Millie,” he says next, and her throat tightens. “Maybe it’s in my coding, you know? Maybe I’m just written to want you to be my other half. Maybe that is my programming talking but, guess what? Someone wrote that program. I’m just a mirror image of your other half. I’m a love letter to them. And someone out there is the author.”
It hits her all at once, and she gasps as quietly as she can when the pieces all fit together. She remembers when they had started working on this game, back in college. Before the breakup. Before she knew she and Olive weren’t a match. Lovelorn, she recalls, who’d been waiting for his soulmate his whole life.
Her fingers fly to the keyboard, calling up the video Keys had sent her earlier that week, the one she hadn’t been able to finish watching. His face renders in the video player, and when she presses play, Keys confirms it all to her.
“You brought him to life. You brought him to life. And he was alive because he met the one person he waited his whole life for. And I had to make it realistic so,” onscreen Keys rubs his fingers together nervously. “I based it off of you and Olive. Back when I was programming him, I thought… I thought you two were meant to be. And that like, killed me, you know? Because I’ve loved her since we were kids and now she was with someone else.”
Millie’s hand clasps over her lips before she can do something stupid like scream. She finally has it.
Onscreen Keys tugs off his glasses. “I had all this love for her and nowhere to put it, so I poured it all into this guy that was looking for his soulmate. Someone who loved that he liked cotton candy ice cream, and glitter, and hummed along to this one Ashlee Simpson track from like 2004.” He sighs. “And I did, of course, but… back then I thought the someone she wanted wasn’t me- it was you.”
She pauses the video and turns over her shoulder to look where Olive is nodding her head gently to whatever tune is playing through her headphones. She can’t believe she didn’t see it before. Guy had always been a near-exact replica of her. Down to his fucking coffee order. And she’d fallen for it all over again, not because she was in love with him, but because he was so familiar. Son of a bitch. What a brilliant moron.
Millie turns back to her monitor, opens up her email account as fast as she can with her hands shaking in excitement. If Millie’s insistent needling and Keys’ horrible flirting won’t get her to see it, this video is the only way. Watch ASAP, she puts in the subject line, then adds the attachment and sends it. She also mutes her computer again, and watches her friend in the monitor reflection.
There’s a dainty gasp a few minutes later, and then Olive is tossing her headphones onto the couch and jogging out the door. “Finally!” Mouser yells, and Millie whoops her agreement. The two share a hi-five when the door slams closed.
The next time Millie sees her two friends, they’re holding hands the way only couples do, and Keys is wearing a smear of her lipgloss across his bottom lip. They don’t even have to say it. Millie already knows. And for the first time in a long time, she feels like everything is back in place.
