Strategies for Creating Impactful Presentations with PowerPoint
Effective presentations play a crucial role in business communication, serving as a powerful tool for professionals to convey their message with impact and clarity.
Among the wide array of presentation tools available, PowerPoint stands out as a popular choice due to its versatility and extensive range of features for creating visually appealing slides. However, a common pitfall is the overemphasis on visual effects and animations, often overshadowing the significance of content and delivery.
To craft presentations that truly resonate with the audience, a strategic approach is essential, focusing on a harmonious blend of engaging visuals, pertinent content, and confident delivery.
To ensure a presentation's effectiveness, meticulous attention should be given to factors such as understanding the audience's preferences and needs, structuring the content in a coherent manner, and incorporating interactive elements to maintain engagement throughout.
By strategically combining these elements, PowerPoint presentations can transcend mere slideshows to become dynamic storytelling platforms that captivate and inform the audience effectively.

Covers Bookbinding for beginners by a beginner- The Home Stretch
*drinks half a gallon of coffee*
COVERS!
You've gotten your typeset done for the fic, you've battled the demon that is your printer, folded pages, stitched pages, glued pages, glued end pages, and end bands. Made the cover, covered the cover in potentially homemade book cloth.
Now it's time to design a cover.
It's time to make this thing into a fully functioning book and slide it on your shelf and have a nice bout of "Laying on the Floor while Questioning the Human Condition (TM)".
There are a few options.
It depends on what you want.
I can only take you so far with Cricut/vinyl applications. But I researched enough to maybe, MAYBE give you the run down on at least how to get your cover from Canva to the software to cut out your vinyl. I'll start there since this is what I know the least.
Open up your version of Canva.
Make a document, I've seen some fanbinders make all this in the cricut software but I can only smile and nod along. But for me- this is the best I've figured:
go to the search bar and type in book cover (or use the drop down menu) click on a random template.
Fiddle and fart your way into a design you like. Text and Font Options are available in drop down menus and find some designs that are "Easy to Weed" which I understand as "Getting rid of all the stuff that's not going on the cover".
For Example:
Do you like it? It took me 40 seconds, I'm very proud of it. But this isn't to impress you really I just need to show you how to save your file so you can make the leap from one software application to the next.
Hit "Share", Hit "Download", File Type- Hit the down arrow, Hit "PNG" I missed this for the first few times--- BUT!
Click the "Transparent Background"
If you're doing more than one colour Vinyl you're going to duplicate the page that is located right next to the lock icon above the document. Hit that. Delete the stuff that you want to be different colours. Otherwise it will just cut everything out as one colour and I've seen some vinyl covers that get damn fancy.
You can also build a title cover just measure the spine and height of your spine and rotate your text to horizontal if you please.
Now for how I do mine. I use Printable Iron On Vinyl. Keynote there is a difference, there is stuff for light fabrics, and stuff for dark. Choose for what your primary book cloth will be but the paper itself will be white.
Make your design.
I have 3 different covers for Celestial Navigation by Sabrecmc just because of how LARGE the fic itself is. I had to split the text block up for ease of handling.
I saved as a PNG, and loaded up my fancy printable vinyl into my printer and went through the software for printing, I had to do some fiddling but for my purposes I had to get the whole cover in the right size on the page- it took some fiddling yours might be simpler it might be more complex. But once I got it printed I trimmed off the white and was left with a peel-able rather velvety feeling thing.
Remove the backing. Get the iron on and go low and slow with the provided barrier material to prevent melting and damage to the print you've just done.
I made spines as well and made an 11 x 8.5 (Or brochure template)
And lined up my spines accordingly as to not waste materials. There will be grids that pop up automatically to let you know if things line up.
Print them out on the "highest quality" out put for your photo software.
It peels like a sticker. It may take a bit to get it going.
Line it up as nicely as you can on the cover (double check on the still exposed board).
There is a protective sheet that comes with it USE IT. Set your iron to a low heat and move it around frequently.
If you're in a relatively humid area (I live in a coastal town so the humidity is pretty high all year). Have a heavy book to squish your covers down with to try and get out any bends that may happen post ironing (also why we want low and slow).
Leave to cool.
Now you have a text block and a cover.
For all intents and purposes for my demonstration I'm leaving the spine off and am redoing everything with this fic from the ground up. There are aspects and mistakes that I have made that have irked my brain. So I will be leaving the spines off for this round. This is the learning curve and since a lot have things have clicked into place since beginning this series that have given me the "AH HA! CLARITY!" moment. I have completely reworked EVERYTHING in my text block of Celestial Navigation. Plus I've a perfectionist issue that is a lot milder than what it was.
But these two text blocks will work as my "Ground Zero" and will be the books I compare all potential future binds too.
As a note that I said in the beginning of this endeavor:
THIS IS FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY. FOR THE LOVE OF FUCK DO NOT SELL WORK THAT DOES NOT BELONG TO YOU!!!! YOU HAVE ASKED PERMISSION (I dearly hope) TO DO THIS DO NOT BREAK TRUST WITH THE AUTHOR.
IF You want to offer a copy to the author- GO FOR IT. Close friend that is showing interest in the fic?? Sure ok.
But if you sell it for monetary gain? I hope you stub your toe, and just before it finally heals you stub your toe again and may all your breakfast cereal turn to slugs.
DO NOT BE A DICK. I am writing this whole 'How To' Series as an experiment of Good Faith that you, the potential binder, will do right by the community and not compound an issue that has been cropping up. Etsy sellers, and this horrible Facebook community that will steal other's typesets, and begin selling them.
Like I said- this is a breech in Fair Use.
Now with that lecture, again, out of the way lets settle the rest of this series.
You will need:
Glue
Book Press
glue brush
Wax Paper.
Your Cover.
Your Text block.
Get your textblock and cover lined up with some wax paper in the middle of the decorative pages (if you're doing them other wise the page you glue down to the cover and the rest of the text block.
Fiddle, fart and dry fit until you are satisfied.
Lay down a layer of glue on the page NOT THE COVER ITSELF.
DON'T BE ME. I FUCKED UP HARDCORE AND DID THE COVER WITH THE GLUE. HOOOOO NELLY LET ME TELL YOU HOW BADLY THAT FUCKED SHIT UP.
HOW BAD WAS IT? BAD. VERY BAD. DON'T BE LIKE ME THAT FIRST ROUND, BE LIKE ME ON THE SECOND ROUND AND PUT GLUE ON THE END PAGE.
Line up the textblock for a final time and then apply the paper to the cover open the textblock and smooth what you just glued down. Flip over and repeat.
Then add weight to the text block put it back in your press, or if you're like me and have a reprint in the press just throw books atop the block.
Allow glue to cure over night.
Shiver, shudder, and lay on the floor. Your fic is now a book that you can put on your shelf.
Welcome to the wild wild world of bookbinding.
I've been your host trying their best to explain all the things.
I will likely continue this series with "OK SO I LEARNED SOME SHIT ALL THAT SHIT I WROTE BEFORE FEEL FREE TO LISTEN BUT I'VE GOT BETTER SOLUTIONS NOW" time stuff.
#bookbinding#ficbinding#diy#bookbinding for beginners by a beginner#oh my god I'm done for now#I've done it#I wrote out all of the things#and i likely have to go back and FIX some shit cause.... whooooooooooo I learned a LOOOOOOOOOT#mistakes are great learning tools don't get me wrong but hoooooo I learned a lot

Jealous James
Requested by @im-kikimon - hope this is kind of what you were looking for :)
If anyone has requests or wants more of this AU please lmk I'm begging for feedback
Harriet - James' Pallas cat daemon
Gunnar - Ruby's badger daemon
Setting: the Beaufort twins are staying with the Bells after the mansion drama at the end of season one. (No real spoilers tho dw)
James listened to Kieran Rutherford’s pitch for an Ascot-themed Easter garden party. As outfitters to the King, the Beaufort family attended Ascot every year, and his mother always made every best dressed list.
“And what? We usher in Lexington in a carriage? So many people at Maxton attend Ascot that people would see it for the rip-off it is. You want to ask actual nobility to picnic like the Queen Anne enclosure?” James scoffed.
Rutherford flushed and his shoulders crept up to his ears. “Do… Do you have a better idea?”
The whole room turned to James, who did not, in fact, have a better idea. “I’m saying we can’t imitate something like that. We could keep the dress code and do a standard party - maybe themed with a flower type, hyacinths or something seasonal.” He shrugged, spinning the words out as they came to him.
Silence fell and the tension was thick as James had crushed Rutherford’s hard work a second time. Lin nudged Ruby until she stood up, “Um…” She hugged her notebook to her chest, and suddenly James felt embarrassed; she was clearly uncomfortable because he’d put her in an awkward position, again, without meaning to. He’d just tried to be helpful. “I think you’ve both got good points,” she nodded to herself as an idea formed, “maybe you could work together on this and come back next week with some solid ideas?”
Both boys scowled at her, but she thought it would be good for them to sort out their issues. She smiled and nodded as if they’d just agreed, “Great. Lexington said he’s trying to arrange the keynote speaker so we don’t have the final schedule yet, but they shouldn’t be more than an hour, and if the lunch starts at twelve then we should expect to serve food around one’oh’five.,” she started writing a vague outline on the paper pad, “canapes around six, as it’s a low alcohol event, carriages at nine, latest.”
…
James emailed Rutherford in the car after lacrosse practice:
Hi,
If you send me what you’ve got for the garden party I’ll read it through and email you back with some notes.
James Beaufort
Sent from my iPhone
That should do it. He didn’t particularly want to meet in person.
…
Rutherford sent a link to a Pinterest board later that evening. No message, only the link. James opened it and he realised he hadn’t just been an asshole to Ruby but to Rutherford as well. He could see the guy had put some serious effort into this, and that the Ascot theme was only a template rather than a theme.
He opened his email and started typing out an apology - cc’ing Ruby.
“Coward,” Harriet accused him.
James remembered how Ruby had apologised to him on the lacrosse pitch and deleted the draft.
...
"Hey,” he walked up to Rutherford, “can we talk about the garden party?”
Rutherford looked at the ground, “Yeah.”
‘Go on’ Harriet urged James with a glare.
“I apologise for being rude to you at the meeting. You clearly put a lot of work into the project and it was wrong of me to stomp on it like that.”
“Yannow, it always annoys me in those stories when the nice girl picks the hot guy who treats her like shit over the boring guy who really likes her.”
‘Yikes,’ James thought. He hadn’t been expecting that. “You think I treat her like shit?”
“You have.”
James exhaled, ‘yep, deserved that one. Wait, what does he know?’
“But…” Rutherford spoke up again, “I admit I’m blindsided by your apology. I think we can at least try to work together.” He pushed his glasses further up his nose.
James was stunned. He nodded, “Library? Breaktime?”
“Yeah, I prefer the desk third from the door by the east window. There’s a squirrel drey in the tree right next to it.”
“Third desk from the door by the east window. Got it.”
James glanced at the empty desks near the windows; Rutherford wasn’t here yet. He pulled out his phone and checked the compass app before walking to the eastern side. He sat down at the third from the door and opened up his tablet. He’d made a folder in his sketchbook app last night of different things to go with the theme; invitations, drinks stands, signage, all sorts.
“Did you see the squirrel? It’s a Eurasian red squirrel, pretty rare for around here.”
James looked up as Rutherford sat down and hoped that his disinterest in all things squirrel wasn’t all over his face. “Couldn’t spot it.”
“That branch fork right there,” Rutherford leaned over the table and pointed to a nondescript cluster of twigs.
James nodded, “ahh” and angled his tablet so Rutherford could see it. “I liked the muted colours idea. That was clever. Lydia told me lupins are in season and they come in all sorts of colours, so I thought we could use those as a theme. I sketched an invitation.” He flicked through the app to his ‘sketch’ which had actually taken him ages.
Rutherford took it all in, “That looks really good. Can you mass-produce the invitation?”
“Not by hand, but we could have them printed or send it as an e-invite.”
Rutherford scrunched his nose and shook his head as if James was an amateur, “Paper. Always paper. We send an email to remind them to RSVP anyway, no use clogging their inbox.”
“If you’re okay with it I’ll send a photo to Ruby for her approval?”
“Uh, better on the group chat, the food people might want to put extra details on there and I was thinking about asking Lexington if we could use the conservatory in case it rains. That way we can have a garden or indoor party easily.”
“Good idea.” James added a new plain slide titled, ‘conservatory party rain’.
“And I wondered about an easter egg hunt. If you find an egg, you put your name on it and then you enter it into a raffle. Winner wins champagne or something.”
“Yeah. I can see that working. Where would we get the prize?”
“If you could design a fancy label, maybe we could re-label some champagne or something. Make it one of a kind.”
James nodded. He’d been forced to endure many events with some of these parents; they love the challenge of something they can’t buy. Rumour had it one of them bought a jar of honey for fifteen thousand pounds at a Tory charity gala. “That’ll do it. I’ll get on that. We have some easter eggs at my house from past Easter parties. I’ll ask the housekeeper if we can borrow those.”
Rutherford glanced at his watch, “I’ve gotta go, but it was good chatting with you, Beaufort.”
James stuck out his hand, “James. Thank you for being so decent about all this...” He made a vague gesture with his other hand.
Rutherford shook his hand, “Kieran.”
A few days later:
(Callum is an OC, and Percy (and an SUV) are assigned to chauffeur the Bells and Beauforts around while the twins stay with them. Mortimer sees it as a way of keeping them supervised, but not underfoot.)
James bit back a cringe as he watched Kieran present his and James’ party ideas to Ruby, (the whole committee was present, but he talked to Ruby as if they weren’t) desperate for a ‘good boy’ and a pat on the head or something. Pathetic.
When Ruby stood up, she thanked him ’so much’ for working with James on this, and how wonderful it was to have such ‘a cohesive committee working forward’ - or something like that. James was focussed on the way Rutherford was looking at her, like she was the only thing that mattered in the whole world.
James knew on some level that Kieran Rutherford was somewhat of a decent bloke. Just one with an insane crush on his girlfriend. And it was starting to irritate him.
He felt Harriet pawing at his ankle, “she verbally eviscerated you at Oxford,” she hissed, “keep it to yourself.”
‘Amazing how much you sound like him, like your father’, James realised Ruby was right; that was probably how his father would have dealt with it.
…
When Percy dropped Ruby and the twins back at the Bells, James got out of the back seat and slid into the front passenger seat. Percy regarded him calmly; he always spoke second.
“Percy. Could you give me some advice?”
Percy undid his seatbelt and shifted to fully face James, “Certainly, Sir.”
”There’s a boy on the events committee who clearly fancies Ruby. And, I’m… struggling to watch them interact.”
“You feel jealous when he talks to Ruby?” Percy clarified.
Jealousy sounded childish to James. Straight out of one of those awful romance books Lydia used to read. But, he realised that was exactly it. Jealousy. He nodded.
“What do you need my advice on?” Percy wasn’t sure if James needed any more advice; sometimes as a kid he just needed help identifying what he was feeling and then he’d work it out himself.
“Last time, with someone else, I lashed out, and…” He didn’t want to admit it, but if he could admit it to anyone, it was Percy, “Ruby said I sounded like dad.” He looked at the textured dials as he held his head in shame.
“Communication is the foundation of any relationship. You each need to communicate your feelings and be vulnerable with each-other. Tell her how you’re feeling, but be mindful that the committee is an obligation to her, and he might be too.”
James reflected on the interactions he’d seen between Ruby and Rutherford. “I’ve never seen her reciprocate. She’s pretty closed off around him.” The more James thought, he realised Percy was probably right. The logical conclusion was that James didn’t have anything to be jealous about, but… ugh, it’s still there. Just a bit.
“Sir, have you officially asked her to be your girlfriend yet?”
James frowned and looked at Percy as if it was a forgone conclusion that she was.
Percy smiled softly. “Ask her.”
James nodded to himself. He could do that. He’d get her flowers too; he’d seen how happy that one rose made her. Angus had too. “Should I ask her father before?”
“Before you marry her, Sir.” Percy was really doing his best not to laugh, but the way James flushed really tested him.
…
James bought some flowers on his way back from his next run with Callum. Angus gave him a knowing look as he crept into the kitchen with the bouquet.
“These are for Ruby. Where can I hide them while I shower?”
“There’s a vase in that cabinet,” Angus pointed to a cabinet. When James put it down on the counter Angus had a pair of scissors. “Giving a woman flowers like this,” he tugged at the wrapping paper, “is giving her a task. Giving them flowers in a vase means she just has to enjoy them.”
He proceeded to teach James how to cut and arrange flowers in a vase, making sure to add the plant food sachet to the water. “As for hiding them, you can put them in our bedroom for a while with the door closed.”
“Thank you.” He hadn’t even thought about the ‘giving her a task’ bit. Now he knew Ruby would ‘only have to enjoy them’ he was looking forward to asking her even more.
He ran upstairs and placed the vase just inside the doorframe of Helen and Angus’ bedroom before heading to the bathroom.
…
“Ruby”
Ruby and Gunnar both looked up from her manga to see James in her bedroom doorway, hiding something behind his back, it was cute.
All the practice James had definitely not done in the shower left him. He came to stand right next to the bed, stalling for time.
“I haven’t done this before, so I wanted to make sure we’re on the same page.” He saw Ruby’s brows furrow and quickly held the flowers out for her before she got the wrong idea, “Will you be my girlfriend?”
Ruby’s face was frozen in a delightfully surprised, open-mouthed smile, “Yes!” She set the flowers on the bedside table and hugged him tightly. James hooked his chin over her head and breathed in deeply, glad it had gone well. Would have been a bit awkward if it hadn’t. He saw Harriet and Gunnar curling up together on the bed and sighed as the extra feeling of intimacy washed over him.
…
“Ruby, can I ask you something?”
She gave him a look which screamed ‘you just did.’
“Is there, or has there ever been anything between you and Kieran? I’ve seen the way he talks to you, and while I’ve never seen you reciprocate… I just wondered…”
Ruby shook her head easily, “No. Nothing between us, I know he’s got a crush on me but hasn’t made any moves and I’m not interested in him. He’ll get the message, especially with you around.”
James was surprised that that was good enough for him. ‘Guess Percy was spot on on both accounts.’ He thought to himself. Harriet only moved her head in a way that said ‘told you so’.

A vision for the field - How to frame a plenary talk
This is a post about how I think about plenary/keynote talks at conferences, brought to you by a friend asking for ideas on their plenary, expanded on as a thread on Bluesky (yeah I guess we're on Bluesky now), and repeated here for archival purposes because I think it might be useful for others!
First, a definition of terms: I'm using plenary to mean a big talk that's not cross-scheduled against anything else at a conference, thus implicitly aimed at all attendees at the conference. I think a keynote is basically the same but academic conferences tend to call it a plenary, at least in linguistics. I'm framing it around linguistics for the sake of having a few concrete examples and because that's what I work in, but people have already been telling me that they think it applies to other fields as well.
The thing I always hope for from a plenary is a vision for the field.
This is your chance to get people excited about work in a particular direction or that addresses a particular type of question!
The impact that a plenary can have is to fire people up:
inspire people to work or collaborate on that area
encourage people to pay attention to work in that area or be able to tell people about work in that area
give people who are already working on an area renewed energy on why it's important
The plenaries I've really liked are generally framed around "why". Why do this work? Why have I spent decades of my life on this?
Which leads into more detailed findings about a few specific things, to get people up to speed if they're unfamiliar or contextualize work into a bigger picture for people who are relatively familiar.
And then back out to why and hopes for future directions.
I say that a plenary is about an area or topic rather than a subfield because highlighting an approach or methodology or value system or something is also a great way of doing a plenary (and a whole subfield is possibly too broad anyway). Some examples:
Why is it important to look at this particular language, variety, or family?
Why is it interesting to do research at the intersection of these two areas, how can they cross-pollinate each other?
Why approach language using (a particular approach) as baseline?
This "why" structure of a plenary often fits nicely with a bit of personal reflection on how you got interested in the topic in the first place and how you situate yourself in the history of the field, especially as plenaries are often given by people relatively senior to a field who were there for (and indeed created) some of the history that more junior people might not know about.
However, this is not to be confused with a common historicizing template for plenaries that ALMOST works: "this is what I've done". Better to fit that retrospective into "this is why I've done it and what I hope other people can do as a result". You've been doing this for decades, surely there was a reason why! (If you've forgotten what this is because you've been too close to the nitty-gritty details for too long, sometimes asking a few friends or colleagues can help.)
People also have challenges with figuring out what level a plenary should be pitched at:
How much background information should the speaker assume the audience has, when they can vary from students to senior professors?
In my opinion, the level of assumed background knowledge of a plenary talk at a general linguistics conference should be pitched around first year grad student, for two reasons:
There are students in the audience!
Profs who don't specialize in the topic probably last touched it in grad school (which might have been 30 years ago)
You can scale this level of assumed background knowledge up or down depending on how niche the conference is. For example, a plenary at a phonetics conference can assume more specific phonetics knowledge, and at a general scicomm conference, it needs to assume much less shared background knowledge (people probably know about academic journals and statistical significance but not concepts specific to a field).
But in any case, it is a great idea to include a slide or two getting everyone on the same page about what some key concepts are. Even if you think half the room knows it already, people don't mind seeing familiar info as much as you think they do (in fact, if they're super experienced then they probably also have to explain it to unfamiliar people sometimes, so it's helpful for their own explanations to see a nice summary definition!)
In my opinion, the ideal state to leave an audience member in after a plenary address is somewhere on the spectrum of "now I'm all fired up to keep doing this work" to "I never thought about doing work in this area before but now I sorta want to do so?"
Summary: A plenary is a chance to think about the unifying threads animating why you've been doing what you do and where you hope it leads. In other words, what's the positive subtweet that you wish you could give the field? Sometimes people grumble to a few friends "I wish people would care about x". Well, here's a chance to reframe that into: "here's what it could look like when we care about x".
Also, Amy Plackowski added a helpful comment on bluesky that if there is a theme of the conference then the plenary should connect in some way! (I'd say it's useful to make this connection explicit at the beginning and end of the talk.)

✨️TELL ME ABOUT YOUR OCS✨️
♡Name :
Her name is Melody. Her family name is unkown since she is an orphan.
♡Nicknames :
Little bird and Mel ( also many insults like b*tch, wh*re, etc...Dogtown )
♡Age :
She is born in 2057, so 20 in 2077.
♡Pronouns :
She/her
♡Sexuality :
She is bisexual.
♡Hair Color and style :
She has blond hair, and she has a comfy style. Good luck fitting her in a itchy sparky dress.
♡Eye Color :
When she birthed, it was green. She changed for purple.
♡Height :
She is pretty small...looking like a teenager, like 5 feet tall.
♡Body Type :
Normal ?
♡Personality :
She is autistic, so most of the time, unless you're not talking to her, she is in her world. Even when she is netrunning or figthting, she sees with her eyes.
Except that she is very calm.
♡Tattoos :
A keynote and a butterfly hidden on her hips.
♡Piercings :
Nah. Too sensible for that.
♡Any definable features such as: Birthmarks, Scars, Freckles, Beauty Marks, Accent when they talk, Lisp, Natural slurring of words, Walk with a subtle limp, ect :
She constantly move or do something. She hates staying still.
♡Hobbies :
Netrunning or tinkering in her free time.
♡Gang/Occupation {Mox, Max Tac, etc} :
Barghest. Don't ask.
♡Do they smoke? :
The smell already keeps her 10 foot away from the smoke.
♡Do they drink? Is so, what's their poison of choice? :
The last time she drank, she set half of Longshore stacks on fire.
♡What do they usually wear on a normal day? :
When she is off duty, she wears her street clothes, a used pair of pants, old shoes, a scar and an old sweater.
A "normal day", on duty, would be her uniform.
♡What do they wear when they "Get dressed up"? And what would be considered a "special occasion" to them {such as an "Oh they're gonna be there so I have to look my best." Or an "It's our anniversary".} :
A sweater and a pair of pants.
Or if it's fancy a simple cotton dress. Yellow. She likes that colors.
♡What do they smell like? {For example: they smell like cinnamon flavored liquor, cigarettes, leather, and motor oil.} :
She smells like coconuts or vanilla, according to the soap she uses. But she also smells like ashes since she netruns often and sometimes burns a cable or two.
♡How do they walk? Do they sway their hips? Do they walk with a sense of determination? Do they bounce as they walk? Etc. :
She needs to move, so she changes a lot the way she walks like either bounce, do it on the side, or even walks fast.
♡Are they more of an early bird or a night owl? :
She loves the night. In the day, the light is too bright for her and rather stay in the shadows whenever she can.
♡If you had to use one word to define them, what word would you use? :
One word to describe her would be quiet. She is nonverbal. Well, that would be a big word since she can talk, but does only when she feels safe and at ease with the person she is talking and her environement.
♡What words or catchphrases do they say that's unique to that character? :
Silence. She doesn't have one.
♡Favorite Season :
Either winter or fall, she likes when it's cold and that she has a cozy home. As she often says when people complains "better die freezed than die burned".
♡Favorite type of weather {Thunderstorms, sunny, etc} :
She absolutely loves rain. But her at a closed glass window when it's raining, she'll totally forget your existence or need for help.
♡Do they have someone they're with relationship-wise? If so, who? :
Yes. Moon. Also the woman who dragged her in the Barghest and still holds a grudge against her for that.
♡Main Ship/Pairings :
...Melody/Kurt Hansen ? Would it be weird ?
♡Side Pairings :
Melody/Moon.
♡Favorite/Self-indulgent Pairings
♡How do they show affection to their loved one? :
With physical contacts. She doesn't use words so a hug, a kiss, holding hand, heck, even a simple boop is enough to say "I have affection for you".
♡How do they sit in a chair? :
Her foot on it, she doesn't sit properly. Only when necessary.
♡How do they sit in a chair {uncomfortable version} :
Her back sits on it.
♡What do they wear to bed? :
Her PJ is either a simple shirt with shorts or some kind of onesie (?) that she uses in winter.
♡How do they usually sleep? {Side sleeper, back, fetal position, backwards, nest sleeper, blanket mountain, etc} :
Most of the time, she sleeps with Moon and snuggles against her in her warmth. She also sleeps in fetal position for heat. But when it's too hot, she sleeps in the star position or don't sleep at all.
♡How do they sleep in a place they don't know? {Can't due to anxiety, in small bursts of sleep that are short lived, holding themselves, etc} :
Simple : she doesn't. Unless she doesn't have anything reassuring like a small light, a pillow to hold or some warmth, she doesn't.
♡Do they have to have a form of "white noise" in order to sleep? {The sound of a fan, the sound of rain, the sound of a city, etc} :
White noises help her greatly to sleep. She loves rain, so logically, the sound of rain is the white noise she uses whenever she has anxiety to sleep.
♡What's a place they go to feel comfortable, that's their "spot" they always go when they're upset? :
The rooftop of an abandonned building. She is a sniper and is used to higher places to defend Moon whenever she is in danger to assist her. Not only she feels safe up, but it's relaxing to observe the clouds or the stars.
♡What do they do when they're nervous? {Fidget with jewelry, pick at nails, bite nails/lips, play with knife/zippo lighter, etc} :
Her foot is shaking or she pace. Again, she doesn't like to stay still.
♡What is their "tell" for lying? :
She is way too blunt to lie properly !
♡What is their favorite color? :
Yellow. She loves that warm color.
♡Favorite flower/plant :
Even thought she likes yellow, surprisingly, she hates sunflowers. She loves hydrangea flower.
♡Favorite sweet of choice :
White chocolate.
♡Do they have any pets? If so, tell me about them :
She has a cat pet named Coco. Once Kurt made her taste coconuts, she loved it so much, she became obsessed with and named her cat after the coconut fruit. Coco is obviously a sphynx cat. He always climbs on her whenever he has an occasion to do so.
♡What are their triggers {If they have any}? If so, what calms them down? :
Very loud sounds triggers her, sending her into a trans. Sticking her head against a chest and making her hearing someone's heartbeat helps her to calm down.
♡If they could visit anywhere in the world, where would they go and why? :
Maybe Australia. Thanks to the observatory there. She loves stars, she isn't interested in astronomy, she just loves the stars/
♡What is their favorite comfort meal? :
Scop dogs, she used to eat some with Moon whenever they would fail a gig.
♡Do they have a food they hate? :
Yeah.
Anything spicy.
♡What is their favorite {non-alcoholic} drink? :
Chocolate milk.
♡What are their plans for the future {if they have any}? :
Survive. Or just live. She doesn't really have any plans or goal, just be alive.
But she also wants to build her own family and she doesn't hope to have one with Kurt. He has too many enemies.
♡What's a song that "fits" them? :
"Don't let me down" by "the chainsmokers". Or something bittersweet "Warriors" by "Aurora".
♡Give me 5 facts/random bits of information about them :
She is obsessed with chocolate. People compare her often to a cat. She is also obsessed with her cat. She makes no exception, even with her loved ones or her boss ( Kurt ). She sticks to her words, if she says something, she means it.
♡Give me their backstory {can be long, or brief.}
Melody is an orphan, her parents left her when they were struggling to understand her tantrums. Turns out she is just autistic and that her parents were too stupid to get it.
She met Moon and grew with her in the combat zone before it becomes Dogtown. She saw Kurt that day and stayed very afraid of him for a long time, even if he did nothing to her.
She joined the Barghest because Moon believed in a better life among the ranks.
She ended up being too close to Kurt and doesn't know what to do.
♡Free Space! Give me any sort of extra information about them you'd like to share :
She is the big sisters of the kids in the streets. Whenever she can, she will play with orphans.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
May 5, 2023
HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
MAY 6, 2023
Today’s job numbers came in higher than expected, with the U.S. adding 253,000 nonfarm jobs in April. Unemployment fell yet again, to 3.4%, matching a rate not seen since 1969. Black unemployment is at an all-time low of 4.7%. For Hispanics it’s 4.4%, and for Asian Americans, 2.8%. The rate for adult women is 3.1%. Average hourly wages rose 0.5%. This good economic news didn’t come from nowhere. The Biden administration has focused on building infrastructure, bringing supply chains home, and bolstering new manufacturing. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act have invested in workers. At the same time, the administration has taken measures to claw back some of the power the country has ceded to business leaders over the past decades. It has taken steps to promote competition, including Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s negotiation of a global minimum corporate tax to stop nations from racing to attract investment by cutting taxes, and the Justice Department’s enforcement of antitrust laws, which has led to a number of directors resigning from interlocking boards. The Federal Trade Commission has proposed a ban on noncompete agreements, which prevent people from moving from job to job. The FTC estimates that getting rid of the agreements would increase wages by nearly $300 billion per year and enable about 30 million Americans to move to better jobs. Biden’s approach to governance is not just a change in policy from the past forty years. It is a demonstration of the tedious, hard, incremental work of moving the ball forward in a modern democracy. The extraordinary work that goes into governance showed last night in a keynote address National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan gave on the administration's approach to Middle East affairs at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. Moving away from the nation's previous tight focus on terrorism, Sullivan emphasized a theme that the Biden administration has highlighted since the president took office: “the integration of foreign policy and domestic policy.” Sullivan emphasized that the administration's template for foreign affairs is “realistic and pragmatic” but also “ambitious and optimistic about [what] the United States and our allies can achieve together over time.” The administration's new framework for U.S. engagement in the Middle East, he said, “is built on five basic elements: partnerships, deterrence, diplomacy and de-escalation, integration, and values.” Over the past two years, the U.S. has strengthened partnerships in the Middle East with “strategic dialogues, high-level visits—including two presidential visits—exchanges, and over 200 military exercises,” and it continues to strengthen ties between allies. It has deterred violence through counterstrikes but prefers to rely on diplomacy and de-escalation of tensions. “[E]very day, we are plugging away at proactive and creative diplomacy across the Middle East region,” Sullivan said. Most notably, the administration helped to end the war in Yemen by setting the terms for a truce mediated by the United Nations. That truce has held—so far—for fourteen months. “Humanitarian aid and fuel are flowing through Yemen’s ports, the civilian airport in Sanaa has reopened, and the parties are actively in discussions on a roadmap to ultimately bring this war to an end.” Sullivan said that the administration is working to help countries in the Middle East integrate into an interconnected region, and finally, he talked about values. “Just as we always strive to perfect our own democracy at home, we will always raise concerns regarding human rights and fundamental freedoms in our engagements around the world, including in the Middle East,” he said. Sullivan noted that U.S. values include women's rights and the ability to criticize leaders without fear. Enabling populations to unleash their full potential means religious tolerance and protection of minorities. It means pressure on other countries to acknowledge freedom, and it means remaining a key source of humanitarian aid. As if in illustration of regional partnerships, today Saudi Arabia and the United States issued a joint statement on the start of talks between the warring parties in Sudan. The statement emphasized regional alliances, noting: “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States…would like to stress the efforts of the countries and organizations which supported these talks, including Quad countries (The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, The United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States), the League of Arab States, and partners from the Trilateral Mechanism (UNITAMS [U.N. Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan], the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development).” The careful cultivation of allies and complicated pressures enabled Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken to pull together an international coalition to stand against Russian president Vladimir Putin’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine. The pressure of that coalition appears to be helping Ukrainian forces undermine Russia: today, in one of a series of videos, the leader of the mercenary Wagner Group that has been fighting for Putin, Yevgeny Prigozhin, expressed fury at the Kremlin for leaving his men without supplies and vowed to leave the key city of Bakhmut on May 10. Standing surrounded by corpses, he raged: “Those are soldiers we lost today. Their blood is still fresh…. They were someone’s sons or fathers. You, f*ckers, who don’t give us ammo, will burn in hell.” Prigozhin could simply be jockeying for power, but a less ambiguous sign that Russia is in trouble is that Belarus has set up new border controls for Russians trying to enter their borders. The slow, careful work of governance undertaken by the Biden administration is a very different thing than what is offered by members of a party whose goal for forty years was to slash government and to use the military to make the world conform to U.S. goals, and whose goal now seems to be to ram through minority rule without bothering to follow the laws. When asked about Iran’s attempt to develop a nuclear weapon, Sullivan implicitly criticized the impulsivity of the previous president, who abruptly pulled out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear capabilities. “[T]he best way to stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon is an effective agreement that stops them from getting a nuclear weapon,” he said. He continued: “I regard the decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal, the JCPOA, without anything to replace it or any strategy to deal with it other than the imposition of sanctions—which we have continued and added to actually,” with concern. Today, Mississippi governor Tate Reeves illustrated the Republicans’ simplistic approach to governance when he announced his reelection campaign with a 12-second campaign video of his face superimposed on cowboy actor Clint Eastwood, shooting at Mexican “bandits.” The imagery tied directly into the history of the modern-day Republican Party, which rose on the image of the cowboy who would cut through the “socialism” of a government that used tax money to keep the playing field level and restore individual men to power. But that was always just an image, and now, shown up against the reality of the complicated and hard work of governance, it has become cartoonish.

What is the app you used to make thumbnails?
Either Keynote or Medibang Paint. With the series reviews, I’ve gotten into a rhythm of duplicating the template while gradually adjusting it. For the single episode reviews or other videos, which oughta be more eye-catching, I use Medibang Paint because it’s slightly more advanced.

Top 10 Presentation Design Agencies for 2024: Elevate Your Presentations
TL;DR 🕒
We’ve all been there—struggling to create that perfect presentation to wow your boss, coworkers, or clients. The truth is, your great ideas won’t matter much if your presentation doesn’t grab attention. The right presentation design can make all the difference, while a poorly designed one might just send your audience straight to sleep.
So, how do you ensure your presentation stands out? By partnering with a top-notch presentation design services that understands your vision, of course! Let’s dive into how you can find the right partner and explore the best presentation design agencies for 2024.
Choosing a Presentation Design Agency
Choosing the right presentation design agency can feel overwhelming, but knowing what to look for makes it easier. Keep an eye on these factors to find a partner that suits your needs:
1. Great Storytelling
Presentations aren’t just about showing data—they're about telling a story. You want an agency that understands narrative flow and can convey your ideas in a way that resonates with your audience. A strong storytelling foundation ensures that your message sticks.
2. Customization
While there are countless ready-made templates online, nothing beats a custom design. Look for an agency that tailors their work to your brand’s unique voice and goals. Cookie-cutter templates just won’t cut it if you want to leave a lasting impression.
3. Adaptability and Flexibility
Whether you're pitching investors, conducting internal training, or presenting at a conference, your slides should reflect the tone and purpose of the event. An agency that can adapt its designs to match your specific audience and context is invaluable.
4. Technical Skills
From PowerPoint to Google Slides, Keynote, and even Figma, presentation software comes in many forms. Make sure your chosen agency is proficient with the tools you use and can deliver in the format that works best for your team.
5. User-Friendly Templates
A well-designed presentation template should be easy to use. No one wants to waste hours trying to figure out complex designs. Look for agencies that prioritize user-friendliness in their templates, making your life easier when it comes to creating future presentations.
6. Clear Communication
Working with a design agency should make your life simpler, not more complicated. Ensure your chosen partner is transparent, communicative, and responsive. You’ll want clarity on pricing, deadlines, and progress updates throughout the project.
7. Speed Without Sacrifice
In today’s fast-paced world, speed matters. You need an agency that can deliver high-quality designs on time without compromising on the creative process.

What Makes for Great Presentation Design?
If you're wondering what separates the good from the great, here's what you need to know:
1. Prioritize Content
Remember, design is important, but content is king. A beautifully designed deck is useless if it doesn’t convey your message clearly and effectively. Start with a strong message, and let the design elevate it.
2. Keep It Simple
Simplicity in design is key to maintaining your audience’s focus. Each slide should focus on one idea, using minimal text and powerful visuals.
3. Make It Accessible
Consider the diversity of your audience—different devices, varying eyesight, and accessibility requirements all matter. Ensure your design is readable and inclusive to make a broader impact.
4. Stay Consistent
From font choices to color palettes, consistency matters. Keeping your slides visually cohesive reinforces your brand and ensures your message is clear.
5. Call in the Experts
If design isn’t your strength, don’t hesitate to call in the pros. A skilled presentation design agency can save you time and stress, ensuring your next deck hits the mark.

FAQs: Best Presentation Design Agencies for 2024
What is a presentation design agency?
A presentation design agency, often referred to as presentation design companies, specializes in creating visually compelling slide decks. These agencies offer services ranging from custom templates to full presentation design, helping businesses communicate their ideas clearly and professionally.
Why should I hire a presentation design agency?
Hiring a presentation design agency ensures that your message is visually impactful, aligns with your brand, and is crafted by experts with storytelling and design skills. They can help you save time, deliver presentations with higher engagement, and often offer quick turnaround times, which can be crucial in business settings.
It’s not just about checking these boxes—your pitch deck needs to tell a story that gets investors excited and makes them want to learn more.
What should I look for in a presentation design agency?
Let’s be honest: designing a pitch deck isn’t just about putting words on slides. It’s about grabbing attention and keeping it. If you’ve got serious design and storytelling skills, go for it. But if not, it’s worth handing it off to a pro. A good pitch deck can help you close deals, so it’s worth the investment if design isn’t your strong suit.
Key factors to consider in the presentation design process include:
Storytelling ability: The agency should be skilled in visual storytelling.
Customization: Avoid cookie-cutter templates; look for personalized designs.
Adaptability: The agency should understand your brand and audience needs.
Technical skills: Ensure they can work with platforms like PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Prezi.
User-friendly templates: These should be easy to update and use.
Communication: Clear, transparent communication and pricing are essential.
How much does it cost to hire a presentation design agency?
Costs vary based on the agency, scope, and complexity of the project. Some agencies, like INK PPT, start their pricing at $500, while others may offer custom quotes based on your specific needs.
Can a presentation design agency help with different types of presentations?
Yes, presentation design agencies are equipped to handle a variety of presentation types, such as:
Pitch decks
Investor presentations
Sales and marketing decks
Corporate presentations
Training and eLearning materials
Product launches
Conference keynote presentations
What’s the difference between a presentation template and a custom PowerPoint presentation design?
A presentation template is a pre-designed layout you can use repeatedly, adjusting the content as needed. A custom presentation is designed specifically for a one-time use, tailored to your brand, audience, and message, with more advanced storytelling and design elements.
Which are the best presentation design agencies for 2024?
Here’s a quick list of some of the top agencies:
INK PPT
Bright Carbon
Mr.Prezident
Fully Decked Up
Slide Rabbit
