'Kevin tried refilling his mug, but he'd drunk enough by now to be clumsy with it. Half of what he poured ended up on the coffee table, and Kevin swore in a quick handful of languages. He set the bottle down, looked around for something to clean his mess with, and ended up patting at the puddle with his hand.'

I wonder how Kevin grieved Riko.
Because he did. He must have. They had grown up together and yes, he might hate him for all he's done to him (and Jean, and then Andrew, and Neil, and...) but he was his brother.
Don't you think that at least in the first years, things were at least slightly better?
Do you think Kevin has happy or happier memories from his childhood or is it all bad?
Do you think Kevin and Riko have had inside jokes at some point? Do you think that not too long after Riko's death, Kevin realised that the other half of those inside jokes is gone and there's no one else left to laugh at it but him? Because he can't explain the joke to anyone, they wouldn't understand. Perhaps Jean would or could, but Kevin is not selfish and he will not share inside jokes he and Riko had and that Jean had been left out from. It's unfair. So even those bits of nice memories get stained. Tainted forever.
Do you think Kevin ever subconsciously seems out Riko for something they used to do together and was theirs, only to realise again that he's not there? And not in a way that can be changed, you know. And not always in a negative way, for Kevin's fear for the king had infiltrated so deeply into his heart and head it sometimes felt like nothing but reassurance that Riko was not there anymore. But still. He had been his partner, for better and for worse, for a decade. A child born the same year they were partnered up would be in middle school, would be having thoughts, would be the same age they were when they partnered up.
Do you think Kevin ever cries about it? With Bee, or in his room, or Wymack, or in the lockers after night practice when Neil can't see him.
Do you think Kevin ever let himself feel the grief without feeling guilty about being relieved?
Do you think Kevin ever grieved Riko even before he was dead, grieving the Riko he had been when they were kids?
I don't know, I just think Kevin's grief is so, so, so deeply intricate.

okay so near the end of tkm, after the foxes win against the bearcats, and aaron and katelyn kiss publicly, and they’re having a party with the vixens in the basement (stay with me, right), and andrew doesn’t stay longer than taking a bottle and going upstairs, RIGHT. now, after that, neil sticks around to watch his team a little, observe aaron with katelyn, matt and dan, he chats with dan and nicky, and is generally very Soft about his family, RIGHT.
he literally doesn’t even think about andrew being by himself (yet, no doubt he was getting there), and certainly doesn’t see it the same way nicky and dan do when they tell him to take advantage of an empty dorm, and ultimately decides it’s more fun to go bug andrew.
HOWEVER while all this is happening, andrew is sitting upstairs, by himself. i can only imagine him absolutely VIBRATING with anxiety about will neil come, will neil not come, does he WANT neil to come up, will aaron say anything about switching rooms yet (if andrew even knows, which I suspect he does). here’s this boy in absolute love and i’d bet anything he was NERVOUS about whether neil was going to follow him up from the room, and the longer it takes, the more twitchy andrew gets. he acts all nonchalant when neil does get there, but you know andrew is so relieved. poor boy is so gone for the mafia kid.

I don’t talk enough about kevin which is a shame cause he’s my boy. anyway I was wondering what kevin’s love language is and I think it’s totally acts of service
Sure he doesn’t give a lot of praise, and he might not be great at comforting someone when they need a shoulder to cry on, but he’ll cook someone a nice meal when they’re sick and haven’t eaten. he’ll clean the whole dorm when andrew’s stressed over something but won’t admit to it, cause he knows andrew likes to keep things tidy. he schedules in extra private practices with neil when he’s feeling frustrated over his game and needs to work it out. when nicky is sad and feeling lonely without erik, kevin will make sure he has some extra time after practice to call him
He’s demanding, grumpy, and maybe a bit of an asshole. but the foxes know he cares and tries to show it, in his own way. he gets it from his father after all

Please, hear me out for a second. I think Neil is the dad friend of the monsters. (But like a specific dad friend. The one who was, at one point, the reckless younger brother who had a couple kids and then was like "oh no... this is going to be interesting.")
And not because he's Andrew's boyfriend but for the fact that he could be bleeding out on the sidewalk and he'd still tell everyone he could totally walk it off.
Would Neil forget your birthday until a week later when he sends a belated birthday text with the words: Your birthday is today right? Hell yes he would.
Would he randomly and umprompted info dump on you with things that may or may not leave you traumatized but he never ever elaborates on or brings up again? He has and he will again.
Dad jokes? He's got plenty. (His favorites are math jokes.)
Does he know how to fix really specific things but can't figure out how his cell phone works? You betcha.
Is he like my dad and brings up weird cartoons he watched as a kid and then asks: "remember that?" Probably!
Like some dads, you collect Neil lore like you would collect Pokémon on a Saturday night.
Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk.

If I had a nickel for every time Mihoyo set up something excellently entirely through implications and visual story telling, only to insert some bullshit narration/monologue that completely contradicts everything we’ve seen so far and ruin the entire premise- I actually don’t know how many I’d have. Hopefully I’d be able to buy enough vodka to forget those plot lines ever happened though
Seriously though, up until HoD, every Herrscher that had gone violent had done so as the direct result of human cruelty. Siren was a victim of torture, Anna had been isolated to the point she didn’t have the will to resist the Honkai… heck, didn’t PE HoC directly say that it would have just lay dormant if they hadn’t tortured and killed Rin??? Didn’t they make a point to say that Senti was only born because three of the strongest forces against the Honkai decided to turn on each other (heck, wasn’t she also ultimately stopped with love and compassion)? I thought that was supposed to be the significance of the previous era and why they failed- that they were cruel and that they hurt each other, only making their overall situation worse. But no, people just weren’t evolved enough I guess
You know another benefit to making the Honkai just a product of humanity, Mihoyo? Using love and friendship to save the world instead of project stigma would have actually made in-universe sense. As things stand now, our protagonists just seem like a couple of idiots trying to stop what seems like a perfectly reasonable plan just because they personally don’t like it. Why on earth would Kevin, a man who’s watched all his friends and his world die, have any reason to ignore the plans of his world’s leading scientists (who’s work has actually yielded results) for some hair-brained idea that no longer makes sense with the lore and risk the destruction of yet another world??? If they had just stuck with the original premise though, what the protagonists are trying to do would have actually had a precedent within the lore
I don’t know how to conclude this. Idk man, I’m just sick of Mihoyo fucking things up by making them more complicated than they have to be. Anyways, pardon all my ranting today. Here’s a picture of my cat as compensation
