THE MURDERBOT DIARIES: A Fan Animation

Subtitles in English, Spanish, French, and German.

In early 2021, as talk of a Murderbot Diaries adaptation was underway, fans of the series started asking each other questions like, "What would we want to see from an adaptation of our favorite book series?" and "Wouldn't it be cool if this or that scene was animated?" and "Hey, don't YOU know some things about animation?" and "What if a bunch of fans got together to make a Murderbot fan animation?"

Two years of teamwork later, the Murderbot Diaries Fanimation Project presents our labor of love: a fully realized animation adapting scenes from the first four novellas into a trailer, dedicated to showcasing everything we love about the story of our favorite rogue SecUnit.

@dei2dei : Has very been helpful when I started to seriously move towards writing original fiction with the aim of getting published--one of the people who really convinced me I even could do it. Thank you Dei for being so helpful and supportive about my writing!

@oliversrarebooks : Not only do I love her writing (and one of my fanfic WIPs, which I don't generally post about on this account but still, is an AU of her story) but I always enjoy discussing writing with her! Even when we come from very different perspectives on a genre or trope--actually, especially when we do, it's always interesting to hear her point of view.

@kesbeacon : We haven't talked that much necessarily but when they talk about their writing on Radchdome and Tumblr it always sounds so cool. Wished I could have offered to beta Oathbreaker when they were looking for that, but I was at a very busy time in my life and didn't want to commit to another thing and then not be able to do it--so instead I'm just eagerly waiting for it to be published. Seriously, Arthurian-esque knights in space?? The concept alone is incredible. I think for "writeblrs whose novels' publication I'm most eagerly anticipating" they win there.

Honestly I'm new enough to writeblr that I'm not quite sure how to define a writeblr. From my other account or otherwise I know a lot of people who write and have Tumblrs, but their blogs aren't necessarily about their writing. A lot of fanfic writers in particular you could scroll through ten pages of their blog and find all kinds of wonderful interesting things but have no idea they write fic. So there's a lot of wonderful friends of mine who are very good writers but aren't really on writeblr...if I haven't shouted you out here it's not because I don't think your writing's wonderful, it was just my brain getting hung up on "so what is a Writing Blog?".

Now that we know a little bit more about who YOU are, let’s get to know the people you love. Take this as a chance to recommend some of the writeblrs you love to hear from! Tell people about your friends. Become their biggest cheerleaders!

Greg Bear's War Dogs Trilogy, Kes Beacon's Oathbreaker

I was originally going to recommend these books in the opposite direction, but then I remembered that one of them isn't out yet.

If you enjoyed the part of Greg Bear's "War Dogs" trilogy that was about one group of aliens meddling in the affairs of another, for reasons that are not clear to the meddled-with but which are increasingly concerning, then I think you might enjoy some of @kesbeacon's novel Oathbreaker, once it is published.

Many other parts of these stories are massively dissimilar. The War Dogs trilogy is set in a nearer-future Earth which still remembers anime. (It is so much better than United States of Japan, which is my baseline reference for "references anime but is not itself anime", and handles its references better than Ready Player One) Oathbreaker is set in an alien nebula. (It is not King Arthur in space - it is its own story) The War Dogs trilogy is about a grunt fighting yet another expeditionary war. Oathbreaker is about how consensus narratives shape societies and the people within them.

They are very different stories to each other, but I recommend readers of each to the other because of this neat worldbuilding detail.

Both are about Outside Context Problems, and fighting them. Both have a certain disdain for those who seek profit at others' expense, for those who do not seek informed consent. Both have sufficiently advanced technology, indistinguishable from magic. Both are stories about finding similarities in the alien.

Halloween art and fic exchange - works of Ann Leckie

IC (inconvenientcalamity on tumblr?) ran a Leckieverse exchange (for canons by Ann Leckie, basically the Ancillary series, Provenance, and Raven Tower). All the written items ended up being for the Imperial Radch fandom.
