Just saw an online review of kedem grape juice that said that a mom uses it for at home communion with her kids and I have…. So many questions.
1) people actually drink that stuff outside of religious obligation?
2) why would you put your children through that when they’re not even Jewish?
3) what do you use for the host? matzo?

Next sabbath my candle holders and kiddush cup should be here I’m so excited 😆
Unfortunately I don’t have a table to put them on in my room so I’ll have to put it on my mini fridge I guess
Can’t wait till I save up enough money to buy some much needed furniture. I made this cool wardrobe on IKEA but it’s like 500.

Qinat Be'eri (A Lamentation for Be'eri) by Yagel Haroush
youtube
Yagel Haroush is a singer, a kamancheh and ney player, a poet, a composer of piyutim (traditional religious songs) and a teacher of Middle Eastern music. After completing his studies at the Jerusalem Academy of Music, Yagel earned a master’s degree in philosophy at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and was awarded the Daoud Al-Kuwaiti Scholarship for musical excellence. Yagel specializes in performing and composing music based on maqam, the Middle Eastern modal system. He studied the Persian form of maqam, known as dastgah, with Prof. Piris Eliyahu and his son Mark Eliyahu, and Arab maqam with Prof. Taiseer Elias. As a child, he absorbed the liturgical poetic tradition of the Moroccan piyut (religious song) at his grandfather’s home in the southern Israeli city of Dimona, where every Shabbat, a group of paytanim (composers and singers of piyutim) would gather. Later, he delved into the secrets of the baqashot (“supplications”), a Sephardic mystical singing tradition practiced by Moroccan Jews. Yagel’s ensemble, Shir Yididot, performs original reinterpretations of this tradition that situate the baqashot within the broader context of Middle Eastern mystical song. The group released its debut album in 2016. Yagel is also the founder of the Study Center for Makam and Piyut, where he teaches composition and performance, as well as theoretical performance studies based on Jewish sources – philosophy, Kabbalah and Midrash. He also founded the School of Oriental Music in the Negev in the town of Yeruham, and Kedem, a school for composition in the spirit of maqam in Jerusalem.
Qinat Be’eri was written by Yagel Haroush in the month of Marḥeshban after the massacres on 7 October and disseminated on social media. (The text of the qinah here is as shared on the website Kipa on 7 January 2024.) The initial English translation and notes was shared by Yosef Goldman and Josh Fleet. (These notes were very lightly edited for clarity.) On Tishah b’Av, a second English translation was offered by Dr. Susan Weingarten. –Aharon Varady

Eikhah [1] – Alas! my well [2] has turned into my grave. And the day of my light [3] has become my darkness And all fruit has been destroyed and my singing overturned. My eyes pour forth water [4] from the depth of my brokenness.
Eikhah — Israel on a day of calling to God. Life was requested but chaos received Elder and infant wallow in blood. [6] His festival desecrated by a merciless enemy. My eyes pour forth water from the depth of my brokenness.
Eikhah — mothers, girls, and young women Taken into captivity as in the days of pogroms And fences were breached righteous sheep And the dancing ceased and the songs of my singers My eyes pour forth water from the depth of my brokenness
And eikhah — I wonder, you who enobled her — How long shall a nation live in upheaval How long shall her stature be brought low to the ground And now, arise to kindle my lamp [7] And from the wellsprings of your mercy heal my brokenness And my eye [8] that pours forth will water Be’eri
The opening word of the Book of Lamentations, “איכה” — translated as “alas!” or “how?!?” — is often used in Jewish poetry of lament — ḳinnot — that memorialize the Jewish people, from the liturgy for mourning the Temple’s destruction to today.
Be’eri means “my well.” [Be’eri here also refers to Kibbutz Be’eri, the site of one of the massacres that took place on 7 October 2023. — ANV]
A reference to the festival of Simḥat Torah on which the massacres took place. In TaNaKh and Rabbinic literature, Torah is compared to both light and water. “For the commandment is a lamp, the teaching of Torah is a light” (Proverbs 6:23) and “A flowing stream, a fountain of wisdom” (Proverbs 18:4). Also find Shir haShirim Rabbah 1:2.
"For these do I weep, my eyes flow with tears; far from me is a comforter who might revive my spirit; my children are forlorn, for the foe has prevailed” (Lamentations 1:16)
i.e. Simḥat Torah.
Find Ezekiel 15:6, “When I passed by you and saw you wallowing in your blood, I said to you: ‘Live despite your blood’…”
It is you who light my lamp; YHVH my elo’ah lights up my darkness” (Psalms 18:29).
Hebrew, עין (‘ayin), means both “spring” and “eye.”

Since I recently passed 650 total cookies, I'll be starting this week off with ruby chocolate butter biscuits. I would have done them right when I hit 650, but the ruby chocolate was taking its sweet time in the mail. Since I couldn't find any chocolate flavored butter biscuits, I used Kedem chocolate tea biscuits as the base for these, since they're somewhat similar. The chocolate is Chocolove ruby chocolate.
Tumblr media
Like I assume most of these chocolate butter biscuits will be, these are crispy with some smoothness from the chocolate. The cookie flavor is pretty much completely overshadowed by the chocolate here, which is very sweet with an almost berry-like taste. These dunk well, and are pretty good.

I was asked to continue to update. I didn't plan to, but since this was requested, I will. I have not and will not share here the worst of the videos that I have seen, but I'll do my best to give you a sense of what is going on here.
This morning there were once again rockets fired at Jerusalem, they caught my disabled mom in the shower, unable to get out and to a bomb shelter quickly enough. She's physically okay, I'm not, I'm terrified for her.
The number of murdered is officially more than 700 innocents, the number of wounded over 2,300, the number of kidnapped is more than 130 people, some are Holocaust survivors, taken and held in Gaza without their medications.

It took 53 hours (over two full days) of non-stop fighting, but there are finally no more areas in Israel under the control of terrorists. That said, the army warned that there may still be terrorists at large within Israeli territory.
Here are some of the faces of murdered Israelis.
Shmuel (friend of a friend)

Kedem family: Yonatan, Tamar, 6 yo Shahar and Arbel, 4 yo Omer
Tumblr media
Yanay (son of my former boss)
Tumblr media
Chana (volunteer, was killed by a rocket on her way to open a public bomb shelter for everyone to use)
Tumblr media
Aharon (paramedic)
Tumblr media
Odaya and Dolev (thankfully their daughters miraculously survived)
Tumblr media
Dani (volunteer for an organization that helps take care of the bodies of terrorism' victims)
Tumblr media
Yevgeni and Shalom (firefighters)
Tumblr media
I don't know this woman's name, but her granddaughter Mor recounted how the terrorists who murdered her grandmother filmed it and uploaded the footage onto her Facebook, that's how the family found out.
Tumblr media
On the other side of the border, the IDF has been attacking buildings used by Hamas. Here is an Arab reporter of the BBC broadcasting from Gaza and recounting how the Israeli army warns Gazans before each strike to allow innocent civilians to evacuate.
You can find all of my updates under my Israel tag.
Update: Terrorists have infiltrated Israel from our northern border (likely Hezbollah terrorists, the carnage up until now was carried out by Hamas terrorists who had infiltrated from the south).

Supporting genocide is still gross, no matter how much you try to shift your definitions to make the government that stole land, deliberately targeted aid workers, salted the water supply, killed tens of thousands of children in a couple of months, and hid mass civilian graves the victims.
That's just a whole bunch of blood libels bundled up in a single sentence.
Do you truly believe all that misinformation? When each and every one of those claims were made by Al Jazeera, funded by the same people who fund Hamas, and were debunked shortly after?
Land was never stolen. It was conquered in war. And may I remind you, it was taken from Jews by Arabs first, so who is the real "thief"?
Israel is not deliberately targeting aid workers. You probably talk about the famous car bombing, but you forgot to mention Hamas was using their vehicles before as transportation, and that they were identified as hamas by accident, AND that the IDF apologized, something no army ever does.
Salted the water supply? That they stopped on October 7th? After giving Gaza water on Israeli taxpayers money for decades? And Hamas literally ruined pipes leading water from Israel when the war started? You mental? We could've poisoned them ages ago but we wouldn't. On the other hand, "Jewish people are poisoning the water" is one of the oldest antisemitic blood libels in the book...
Hmm... tens of thousands of children... but how many of these were actually hamas combatants? They don't tell you that teenagers are holding the guns there. By the same logic, hamas is killing Israeli children almost all the time. But those children are Israeli, and they're wearing uniforms. How is one fair and the other isn't? Make it make sense.
Also ever heard of giving fake numbers? There are many people online who have calculated the numbers by the reports from gaza and these numbers don't add up. But I guess a terror organization is a reliable source...
These mass graves were made by gazans, and were not hidden- there are videos circling online of the Gazans making them.
Should we talk about real things that are happening, like Israeli people who were declared dead months after October 7th, because the terrorists burned them in masses and the remains were found in the mix that was left? Or the sisters that were tied together back to back then shot in the head? Or maybe the 30+ women that were found tied to trees after they were raped and shot there? Or the massive amount of women victims found with a broken pelvis? What about Omer Kedem Simantov? What about Rotem Kutz? What about their entire families that were wiped off the earth with them?
And what about the 133 hostages that are still being held under the most horrifying conditions? You think the Palestinian families that hide them in their basement are feeding them as well as they're eating? Letting them bathe as much as they're bathing? You think any of the women hostages is not being raped?
You are the definition of double standards. You are shining your antisemitic very loudly and clearly. And I do not tolerate people like you, who are content with the massacre, the real genocide that unfolded.

These are the names of just a few of the victims of October 7, those murdered by the horde of Nazi savages from Gaza, or those kidnapped and imprisoned within that moral sewer.
On October 6, all of these people were alive and minding their own business. They were living their own lives. Islamic terrorists from Gaza took that all away from them, leaving a permanent scar on their communities and the entire nation of Israel.
NEVER FORGET THEM.
