KDRAMAWOMENSWEEK 2024 (Day 1): city girls/country girls
Are you serious? You have no internet? That makes it even worse. No one knows that I'm in this off-the-grid village. I'm sure the entire country is stirred by my disappearance.

#KDRAMAWOMENSWEEK 2024 —March 25th - 31st, 2024
In celebration of Women’s History Month, we invite you to join us for a week of chatting and getting creative about our favourite women of Korean drama and film. @kdramaladies is excited and honoured to host the event this year, and we’re thankful for the efforts of the folks at @undergroundkdrama, @dramaheroine (who also came up with the prompts), @songkangsbottomteethcirca2020, and @gudongmae for hosting and organizing this event since 2015.
Join us in celebrating by creating visual content (gifs, fanart, edits, etc.) or just talking about your favourite kdrama women inspired by the prompts below. Please tag your posts with #kdramawomensweek and/or #kww2024, so they are easier to find, admire, and reblog.
Monday (March 25th): city girls/country girls
This prompt is all about the women who live and breathe the city life, the women who just feel deeply at home in the countryside or those who have made their escape to either the countryside or the city.
Tuesday (March 26th): female president
Where are the women leaders in kdramas??? Choose your favourite female authority figure. If you cannot think of one, choose a female character who you think deserves to be a big mover and shaker or even perhaps elected President.
Wednesday (March 27th): style + her
This is a sequel to the great femininity and her prompt from 2017. This time round, this is all about characters’ fashion style. What does their clothes/make-up/accessories tell us about the character? How does the character use her style? OR female characters with an amazing fashion sense that you love
Thursday (March 28th): a room of one’s own
Women who live alone, female leads’ homes that you love, inspiring bedroom decor or special spaces that the women in your favourite dramas use often.
Friday (March 29th): in defense of the Candy female lead
Here is a space to show love to your favourite candy female leads, also known as Cinderella female leads. If you have no idea what that means, here is a great definition: “A “Candy girl” is described as a woman who has unfortunate circumstances but is 1) hardworking, 2) cheerful, and 3) innocent. The definition also extends to being able to catch the eye of a wealthy man (or men, for that matter). She’s basically Cinderella without the fairy godmother and with a more complicated life.” (Taken from: K-Drama 101: What is a Candy Girl?)
Saturday (March 30th): ladies out on the town
Think of nightclub scenes, big parties, small parties, late night karaoke sessions, elaborate or not so elaborate dance sequences…
Sunday (March 31st): everything everywhere all at once
Actresses who have starred in more than 2 dramas in 2023/2024 OR women with multiple identities-think of past lives, fake identities or body swapping…
Please also feel free to be inspired by the prompts from previous years (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2020 Part Deux, 2021, 2022, 2023)

#KDRAMAWOMENSWEEK 2023 | March 8th – 15th 2023
[alternatively: a week and one day to talk about and make things for women you appreciate in celebration of International Women’s Day] Inspired by @evansbrewster that’s no longer on Tumblr.com.
@kdramaladies will be hosting the event as well. I’ll reblog where I can and try to be present. Prompts courtesy of @dramaheroine who has dont 99.9999% of getting this week to happen, prompts and more, thanks so much. Gifs courtesy of @cuddlybitch, @haeyeongs and @orangesyellow. Thank you all so so much. Thank you to everyone that checks in about this when I am sure I’ll be sitting it out. KWW has been happening for eight years, this being the ninth which is nuts.
Please tag your posts #kdramawomensweek and/or @undergroundkdrama so they are easier to find, admire, and reblog.
Day 1: In Her Head
Women with rich inner worlds, full of hidden thoughts, desires and fantasies. Are her thoughts being revealed to the viewers in visually exciting ways? Think dream sequences, a touch of magical realism, voiceovers, a cut to a talking head or perhaps weird little animated cells…
Day 2: “It” Girl
2021 was all about Haves and Haves Not x2000. 2022 was the year of women in the legal profession. Tell us which of the characters fitting this year’s trend you have enjoyed the most and why. What made them better than the rest? Or what else do you think has been a popular theme/genre/topic for 2022 dramas? How did women fit into the equation? Here are a few examples: gangsters, “behind the scenes”, school violence, countryside living etc.
Day 3: The Help
Women holding everything together in the background, women who have to do all the dirty work, who do thankless labour regardless of the setting or time period. Servants, secretaries, domestic staff, cleaners, nurses, nannies, care workers, housewives…Let’s put some time aside to ‘celebrate those who don’t celebrate’ because they are too busy keeping things running.
Day 4: Bad Girls Club
Everyone loves an angst filled, angry revenge drama so lets talk about the women who seek revenge? Women who hold grudges and whose hearts are filled with rage. Women who hurt others (knowingly and unknowingly). Women who seek power over others and/or themselves in cruel ways. A day for celebrating women’s wrongs.
Day 5: Recommend Her!
Choose your fave – give us a Top 10 that you think she’d make e.g. Spotify Wrapped, her 2023 reading list, her watchlist. Personally, I think that Lee Yeo Reum from Summer Strike listens to a playlist like this (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3yrqVOEnwQG4z8czX8qD4k?si=36e45bbaeaad4892) as she walks around the village trying to make sense of who she is and what she wants. Today’s a day for projecting and recommending. Sneak your recs in here.
Day 6: Funny Girl Woman
We know women are funny, here’s your time to show love to the actresses who predominately act in comedies, female characters who you find hilarious and actresses who provide the perfect comedic relief every time they pop up onscreen.
Day 7: Lee Yoon Jung/Noh Hee Kyung OR Surprise!
Two pioneering women behind many of our classic favourite dramas. Think of this as a space for tributes to them, what you love about their dramas, Lee Yoon Jung’s direction, Noh Hee Kyung’s writing, your favourite female characters from their dramas… OR Your favourite cameos by actresses! Who used their tiny bit of screen time in the best way possible?!
Day 8: Timeslip
What if time travel really existed? What if two female characters from different dramas, from different tv eras could meet? How are they connected? Why should they meet? Think of this as an opportunity for you to travel back in time.
Please also feel free to be inspired by the prompts from previous years (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2020 Part Deux, 2021, 2022).

#kww2020 Day 3: A Favorite Scene Passing the Bechdel Test
Song Ji-Won being the best Sunbae to Yoo Eun-Jae, Hello, My Twenties!
The Bechdel test is a measure of the representation of women in fiction. It asks whether a work features at least two women who talk to each other about something other than a man. The requirement that the two women must be named is sometimes added.

#KDRAMAWOMENSWEEK | March 22nd-29th 2020
Happy International Women’s Day! To celebrate Women’s History Month, we’re going to spend eight days sharing and talking about women in kdrama.
@kdramanetwork, @kdramaspace, @kdramadaily please help to promote to your members and followers!
The prompts below were heavily influenced from previous years, but if you need additional themes/descriptions, please see 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 for inspiration. Special thanks to @michyeosseo for their input and feedback.
Tag your posts #kdramawomensweek (no spaces!) so they are easier to find, admire and reblog. I’ll be checking the tag regularly during that week and a day but you can always @ me or message my inbox if you have any questions/concerns.
Posts can be gifs, photos, videos, audio, text posts, fanfic, or other form of edited content. If your post includes non-original work (meaning you did not make it yourself), please credit the content creator.
You are by no means limited to recently aired dramas. Feel free to draw from kdrama classics or shows that are currently airing.
March 22nd. Day One: #Love.
A woman that has a special place in your heart. It can be a character whose story you really enjoyed/related to. Or an actress you always like to see on screen because they just seem to have a knack for picking the right project or embodying a character.
March 23rd. Day Two: #Favorite Supporting Character/Cameo.
The neighborhood ahjuma, the coworker who always has a funny quip, Ghost #3, maybe a child actress that we all should be on the lookout for. Or a memorable cameo.
Alternatively, a main or second lead whose story showed promise but she was ultimately fridged or sidelined by her male counterpoint/narrative.
March 24th. Day Three: #Favorite Relationship.
Mother to daughter. Sister to sister. Friend to friend. Lover to lover (even if the drama never confirms it!). Ready your ships and sail away!
March 25th. Day Four: #Favorite Villainess/Anti-Heroine.
Maybe she was the main antagonist to our kdrama hero/heroine. Maybe she was an minor obstacle/rival (romantic or otherwise) in that same hero’s journey. Maybe she wasn’t a villain per say, but she was definitely there to f*ck some sh*t up.
Alternatively, a character who was abused, harassed, misunderstood, or otherwise treated as a monster/outcast.
March 26th. Day Five: #40+.
Women over 40 that deserve more accolades. Actress or character.
March 27th. Day Six: #Favorite Story/Ending.
I think this particularly relevant given that late 2018-all of 2019 saw a lot of cancellations or rushed and incoherent plots. So please share with us a character or female driven storyline/drama that DID have a satisfying arc or consistent narrative.
Alternatively, a woman that you perhaps feel does not get proper recognition or love in the fandom.
March 28th. Day Seven: #Dream Team, Crossover/AU.
Even if you loved where the story/character ended up, sometimes you just want MORE. Whether it’s a second season or a spinoff or an extended epilogue, share with us your wildest dreams for your fave character/drama.
Alternatively, two actresses that have worked together and you would love to see them on screen again. Or two actresses that you think SHOULD work together cause they are just that amazing and your brain would combust from the mere thought.
March 29th. Day Eight: #Free day.
Celebrate as you see fit.
Or if you are like me and you desperately need a prompt to get you started: BEST STYLE, fashion or hair, can be single character or ensemble.
Alternatively: a recurring theme or motif you’ve noticed among some of your fave ladies.

#KDRAMAWOMENSWEEK 2022 | March 1 — 8, 2022
special thanks to @therukurals for making the gif (insp.) and @melonatures for doing literally all the brainwork with prompts and write-up. thank you to a lot of the people that i’ve met on here who refuse to let me give up on this week - I appreciate you all a lot. maybe the real™ kdrama women’s week was the friends we made on the way.
[alternatively: a week and one day to talk about and make things for women you appreciate in celebration of International Women’s Month]
Day 1: All About ‘Romantic’ Love
A romance between two women, either in the canon, in the subtext, or as a headcanon; or an actress or actresses you want to see in wlw drama.
Day 2: Competence Porn
A character who is exceptionally good at what she does; a genius; a character who is never second-guessed or undermined in her story because everyone around her knows she’ll get the job done, and done well. Alternatively, tell me everything about your favourite female director / writer / lighting tech etc. working in kdramas. Why them?
Day 3: I Just Think She’s Neat!
Heroines or supporting characters who were hated on—either in fandom or in the show—for being frustrating, for getting in the way, for taking up time and space, for being confusing, or for simply not being convenient, inoffensive vessels for self-projection. Give them some grace, love, understanding—do they deserve it? Does anyone?
Day 4: Freaks & Geeks
They wear funny clothes and don’t make friends easily. They’re late bloomers. Everything about them says they’re destined (doomed) for a makeover, but you don’t want them to have one. They stand out, and not in a good way. They may see the manifestation of human desire as jellies. Women who are losers and outsiders.
Day 5: Can I Handle the Seasons of My Life?
Adult women and their relationships with their younger selves; or a woman who is grappling with aging or an age milestone, be it turning 20, 30, 40, or beyond; or woman who is having a coming-of-age later in life.
Day 6: She’s a Runner, She’s a Track Star
Characters who quit. They pathetically or euphorically pack it in. Bags are full and being taken home. They’re running from situations they can or can’t handle. Running from growth. Running from life. Running from love. “She’s a runner, she’s a track star. She gon’ run away when life gets hard” – and sometimes she’ll run even when it’s easy.
Day 7: Character Actress
cha·rac·ter ac·tress /ˈkerəktər/ /ˈaktrəs/ noun
1. An actress who plays a distinctive and important supporting role. 2. The go-to actress for a specific character type.
An actress who always shows up in dramas to steal scenes, provide solid acting alongside greener actors, and play your favorite side characters; an actress who always plays supporting roles who you want to see in a lead role.
Day 8: Home or Free Day
A character who creates a safe place for herself in the world; or a drama you return to again and again because you identify with or love the heroine’s story; or free day.
Please also feel free to be inspired by the prompts from previous years (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2020 Part Deux, 2021).
Please tag your posts #kdramawomensweek and/or @undergroundkdrama so they are easier to find, admire, and reblog.
#kdramawomensweek#kdrama women's week#kww#kww2022#give space to even the most difficult to understand female characters this week _ sometimes people take this as an opportunity to crit#and this isn't what the week is about#these characters and actresses get crit all day long_these 8 days are dedicated to giving space to these women without the need to dunk#on them regardless of how justified you feel#this account is kind of dead#it only comes back to life for kww#i guess dramas are far from underground now which is a great thing
