I'm a huge fan of all your ISAT doodles! Sif esp their expressions are always so good on your style >:o

Would you happen to have any advice for someone who also wants to draw faster? I love how loose your doodles always look!

Wah !!! thank you so much !!!!!!!!!!! Honestly I've always really struggled with expressions, but Siffrin. They changed me.. Of course !!! Drawing looser was something I recently really worked at so it's fresh in my head! Tldr; art speed is all about having a solid workflow.

Earlier last year, I decided to do as many finished-ish pieces for Artfight as I possibly could. It really did speed me up!!!!! Gotta be careful taking on that kind of challenge though - it's really easy to burn out that way. I recommend taking something like that on when you don't have anything else going on at the time.

My workflow for those was sketch as fast as hell you can, clean up the sketch, flat colors down, and then bedazzle with layer effects. At the time, I really struggled to make flat-colored pieces look good, but I think i got it by the end!!

(this was for my homie okami, in artfight last year! I did 32 of these, in under a month. Phcoo.) But specifically with my isat doodles - the Real Speed comes from blocking it out with shapes first, sketching until it looks okay, coloring under it kind of approximately, and then slapping paint over the top, darkening the darks, and lightening the lights! and then i messily scribble over it again a bit to make it more vague.

These sketches look the way they do because i don't really clean up the sketch that much, and I'm messy as hell with the coloring and shading. Having an eye for what is too much and what is too little just takes practice! Though, if you're like me, a very handy tip is to stay zoomed out on the canvas - when you're too zoomed in, its easy to loose track of the overall picture!

If you specifically want to sketch fast, use references! Pose in front of your own camera to get them even!! (i did not for the doodle above. that's why it took ten thousand year). It's terrifically annoying to find references for something specific, so in that situation I just accept I'll be in sketch iteration land for a while.

After many, many years of not having played any Fire Emblem, I asked my friend to recommend me a game to start with, and he recommended me Fates. I have been playing it for the past few days on the holiday and safe to say, I'm hooked xD absolutely obsessed with unlocking support events more than progressing the story AHDFKAJHFAK

I am still early in the game so no spoilers, please!

Anyway, as a humble shipper and inhaler of character interactions, I love plenty of the friendship/etc dynamics I've seen so far. Orochi is currently my favorite, she has such a wonderful fun auntie vibe,,, her playful personality is delightful and I am obsessed.

I shipped her pretty hard with Silas at first because I unlocked their support story first (he is another big favorite of mine), and I was pretty sure I was going to marry them until,,, well. Until I unlocked her support stories with Kaze and fell head over heels with their dynamic.

So far, as far as romantic synergy goes, they definitely take the cake for me and I,,, well, I couldn't resist and married them right away KJAHGFKAJGJKA

i havent even unlocked all of the units yet 😭 they were simply too perfect for each other, dont look at me. Anyway, because of my luck, i found out they are apparently one of the rarepairs in the franchise and have,,,, no ship art, no fics, no nothing. NOTHING!!

So I have hereby claimed myself as ceo of Karochi and am going to start my own kingdom //silly

I have more stuff cooking as far as fanart goes, stay tuned for more gay rambling in the (hopefully near) future.

this is like some kinda generic stuff ig? but like i wanted to know if ren/redacted is good at singing and like i’ve seen that one art with him and a guitar so i wanted to know a tad bit more on that like does he sing in both english and japanese? does he play the guitar often or how long he’s been playing yk stuff like that ^^;

I'd say Ren is decently good at singing!! His natural voice is far more suited for softer songs (Keshi and Fuji Kaze vibes), but he can definitely belt it out to screamo or rock songs when he's alone. He can also sing in both languages, but usually sticks to English over Japanese since that's his native tongue.

Ren isn't that confident enough in his singing though, which is why he greatly prefers playing the guitar instead. It's been one of his limited hobbies for most of his life (at least 10+ years) and he knows how to play acoustic, electric, and bass guitar!!

Fourth movie recc list for pride month~ time for some japanese cinema~

I think this section has the most tonally diverse offering. Take your pick, but these are my favourites.

+DOUBLE MINTS (Dir. Eiji Uchida, 2017. 100 minutes)

Double Mints follows two ex-classmates (and enemies. and now accomplices, technically) as a phone call throws both of their lives into a nosedive. Cue burying dead bodies together and beating each other up, romantically, of course. This movie is A Lot. If you’re looking for “good gay rep” or whatever, this is not it. In a word, this movie feels very Grimy. It covers dark themes and destructive obsession and control, but if that’s as up your alley as it is mine then this movie is a Good Time. Visually it isn’t as explosive as some others on this list but it definitely has its moments. This is an adaptation from a manga, written by the same woman that wrote Doukyuusei (which is an Insane tonal shift from this series, and I for one commend her range). Warnings for extreme violence of every kind. Happy ending (I’m using the word loosely).

ALTERNATE CHOICES

+HIS (Dir. Rikiyama Imaizumi, 2020. 127 minutes)

Aaaaah, this movie. Most definitely the movie that falls closest to what people picture when someone says “a movie About Gay People”, but it’s one of the good ones. Adults being adults and trying to navigate their lives and trying not to hurt each other or their children along the way. The ending feels like a warm hug.

+CHERRY MAGIC (Live action adaptation, 2020. 12 episodes)

Please don't be put off by the full title lol. Office romance with a magic twist. Cute. Cute Cute Cute. Sugary sweet cute, and kind of warm milk compared to other stuff on this list, but I think it’s good that we get to have shows that are just cutesy romance along with the serious stuff too. Like seriously. So cute. I DO wish we’d gotten a kiss at least, though. Very much a happy ending.

HONORABLE MENTIONS-

+TO EACH HIS OWN (Dir. Izuru Narushima, 2017. 117minutes)

Again, kind of cheating as this movie doesn’t explicitly touch on lgbtq+ themes, but like The Vibes are there. It’s just a weird, delightful, quiet little movie. It just feels so Hopeful. It’s my list and i’m putting it here. One of my all-time favourites.

ANIMATED

A special section as I CANNOT move on without mentioning these two-

Oniisama e (1991)/ Kaze To Ki No Uta (1987)

Originally written by Riyoko Ikeda and Keiko Takemiya respectively, these are THE shining stars among the year 24 group mangas (and later animated series) in my opinion. Boarding school drama is synonymous with 90s shoujo and boy is there A Lot to unpack in terms of sexuality and gender in both of these pieces. They are products of their time and there’s certain aspects that I imagine wouldn’t fly in today’s era, but they’re fantastic pieces of art that have touched me deeply and are ingrained in my personality forever lol. Thematically, Kaze To Ki No Uta is a little bit heavier but both will leave you with a very very deep feeling of sadness in their own unique way. I won’t even start on the animation style, there is NOTHING better than 90’s shoujo. So sparkly. So many roses and tears. Honorable mention is Rose of Versailles (1979), however i’ve never finished it in full so i cant really put it on here.

The Great Escape

I've read an unreasonable amount of Worm Fanfiction. About 289 fanfics - all of which I've categorized and rated on this spreadsheet here. A more insane way to put that is that I've read 2.32% of Wormfic, discluding smut.

The Great Escape by ColossalMistake is my favorite Wormfic bar none.

I'm a sucker for some cover art, and it starts off with some awesome cover art by owl_hat, whose stuff you can find here. There's a ton of character just put into the designs - from how ratty Acidbath looks, the joy on String Theory's face, the mundacity of Teacher or the slightly haunting gaze of Glaistig Uaine.

The short of the premise is that after Echidna, after Alexandria, the Birdcage has a breakout, and Eidolon tries to recapture all the villains. The fic does a perfect bead on Eidolon's characterization. He's not evil, but he's not a good person. He's a little arrogant and egotistical - but he's earned the right to be. And at the end of the day, the only thing he cares about is helping people.

I stared those sins dead in the eye every morning, every time I was too slow to save someone or too weak to help in the ways that mattered.

Throughout the fic, he uses dozens of powers. They range from things that he feels are useless, or potent powers but ones that aren't potent enough. He's constantly reminiscing about his glory days, about when he used to be stronger - about when he used to be *better.* Honestly? The powers are interesting enough that I should compile a list of them one day.

The first chapter starts off a little calm. David is ruminating over the events of the Echidna and Alexandria incidents - fresh wounds for him, isolated from some of the only people he can call friends. He's ruined. His allies don't trust him, he's not on speaking terms with Legend, he's put at arms-length by Cauldron to be reserved for the final battle.

“You’re a monster, David, plain and simple. We might have to work with you against the Endbringers, but you don’t have any friends here. Not anymore.”

The Great Escape scratches an itch for an Eidolon headcanon I have - that before his powers started dimming, and even after, he acted something like Scion. Flying around the world, helping as many people as can in as many ways as he could. Becoming less a person, and more the mask - more Eidolon.

Away went David, and out came Eidolon.

The chapter continues into something a little more manic as the news of the Birdcage breakout - well, breaks out. There's this sort of building tension with each name that's been dropped, starting from more niche characters to Black Kaze, to people who had little showings of strength like Gavel, all while surrounded by this sort of *blur* of motion as things are breaking down. Snowstorm, satellite issues, frantic responses.

And then it culminates with a line.

“Confirmation from Dragon, Glaistig Uaine’s free!” An air of finality settled over the room as the last picture slid onto screen. A blonde child, her mouth twisted in the mimicry of a smile. I could have sworn that her eyes were peering into mine, despite the photo being two decades old. “It’s not a breach. It’s…all of them. Loose.” I didn’t spare Young Buck a glance, but his bravado appeared to have fled. As the din in the room rose to a fever pitch, I remained silent. I’d asked for another chance to be useful. A second chance to help as many people as possible before they put me on a shelf, a relic to be laughed at before the end of the world. God had answered. Now it was my turn.

I'll talk briefly about the second chapter, too. It's a lengthy interlude that shows a series of snips from the POV of the escapees. Each of them running through the wilderness, plotting and planning. The standout three are Gavel, Black Kaze, and Glaistig Uaine - showing three facets of insanity. The more sadistic and psychopathic kind from Gavel, the more hallucinatory and manic from Kaze - and once again, the chapter comes to a close with the Faerie Queen. A more deluded, a more inhuman form of madness.

But one that she can most certainly back up.

As it stands, there are three sorts arcs. I'll post a line from each that I think encapsulates it all.

First, there's Eidolon struggling with String Theory - delving into his powers and how he feels like a shadow of what he once was. Put into a position that he's intimately familiar with - high stakes, something that only he can do.

But this time, he's not enough.

Then the weapon shattered, its only shot arcing up into the sky. And I didn’t know how to stop it.

Next, there's Pastor and Gavel. This focuses more on how Cauldron has been treating him, keeping him at arms-length, while still giving him a chance to be *useful,* even if he's not recognized for being useful. But Pastor is the more interesting half. We see a glimpse of the earlier days, when Hero was alive and Cauldron was in its infancy - we see a fascinating OC who perverts something that Eidolon holds sacred. His religious background. In Eidolon's own words, he perverts Christian beliefs - and vilifies *him.*

I looked back at Pastor, still with the smile on his face, not in the least bit upset by my actions. Eidolon, the ideal that I was supposed to be, meant so much to so many different people. In here, the man in green was a monster of biblical proportions.

The third arc is unfinished. It focuses on Amp - an OC who's an incredible foil to Eidolon. She's naive, idealistic. She raises complex questions and presents simple answers contrasted to the more jaded Eidolon. She had built up an image of him in her mind as someone who couldn't do wrong - and seeing what her own hero has become, and how she betters him because of that makes my heart soar.

“It isn’t a question of strength,” I said. Every branch of the Elite, from strategic outposts to nerve centres like this one, I could tear them apart root and stem. “Its a question of practicality.” They would doubtlessly lose, but there would be nothing to fill the subsequent vacuum. So they remained. A cancer propping up the west coast.

I love Worm, and I love Eidolon. This fic pays respect to both in a way that I adore. Please go ahead and read it. 7/7.
