He nearly does a double-take when he catches sight of Kaul Shaelinsan at the other end of this bar, of all places. She has a distinctive side-profile, one that he's seen featured in news reports before back in Kekon; granted, Niru's never met her in person, and there's always a margin for error-- maybe someone who only looks uncannily like her-- but the jade necklace around her neck that's glinting in the light of the bar would seem to indicate that the woman is the Green Bone he'd thought her to be.

He can hardly believe his luck. Or... lack of luck, more likely. No recognizable leaders from the Mountain can be found within the city limits as far as he can tell; and he's done his research. He's looked up the Ayt name and found nothing, no trace of them virtually or otherwise, and other names of clan leadership besides. How is it that none of his clan made it here, and yet No Peak could be so fortunate? One person doesn't make a clan, and he hasn't done research on their leaders, so it could be that she's the lone member here, the only representative of her side of the clan war. That's one key piece of information he needs to find out, to guide his actions moving forward, but at least the potential for gaining that information is now within reach. He'd started to think that he wouldn't ever run into another Green Bone here, and while he wouldn't pick her out of everyone from Janloon, he doesn't have much of a say in the matter & he'll take what he can get.

She might not take too kindly to being approached by someone from the Mountain, but-- and at second thought, fortune is on his side here, he thinks: there's no evidence tying him to his own clan, at present. He'll speak to her, feel out the situation, and decide what to say from there. So although her body language doesn't look overly open to conversation from strangers at present, he steps up from the side anyway though not too close. He leaves an empty bar chair between them as he stands at the bar to give the bartender his order, and once they've turned away to make the drink, he turns his attention to the woman to his left. "...Kaul-jen?" Niru calls out deferentially, putting on a hopeful smile. The hope is real enough. Please let this give him something to work with. "I couldn't believe my luck, in seeing you here. You are Kaul Shaelinsan, am I right?"

if you’ve played genshin impact, something about them reminds me of jean gunnhildr (aka, they have a rigid personality but also overwork themselves and take on too much). they spread themselves a little too thin because of their pride and being useful is a Big Deal to them. also has a familiar who she promised her soul to once she passes—which could happen sooner than later if she doesn’t slow down.

from the inception of their family line, kavitha's family has lived on a small islet just off the coast of the dusk court. though there have been powerful fae born into her family, they do not strive for power and they do not go to war. they maintain alliances with noble families and provide monetary support + make political marriage matches, when possible.

kavitha is the oldest of eight siblings, and though she has no special abilities or strong magic, she has always been the smartest and held the best political instincts. from a young age, she began overseeing the education of her siblings and helping her father maintain their lifestyle and their alliances from the islet

her pursuit of an education led her to develop correspondences with many distinguished scholars outside of the islet. through them, the texts they sent, and her family's own extremely thorough library, she spent her formative years learning languages, charting the stars, penning a bestiary, and capturing the evolving political climate of the dusk court. above all, kavitha is a rigorous historian.

her father loves her very much, and she is his chosen heir. for this reason, a century ago, she was permitted to leave the islet and pursue a position as an apprentice scholar within the dusk court. at the time, the scholar within the inner circle had been a longtime ally of the opallines, and trusted kavitha's father's judgment

at 200, kavitha left the islet for an apprenticeship with this scholar. the thought was that this would be temporary, and once she had served for a century, she would return to the islet

however, when the current scholar died unexpectedly in a hunting accident a few decades into her apprenticeship, she was the natural choice to step into his role

kavitha's family is very old and very traditional. they have always strongly believed in an isolationist dusk court, and wholly bought into the dark mother's depiction of other fae as callous and selfish. with the new freedom of the court, they have been begging her to return back to the islet, which she continues to resist

she left her home (in the dusk court) to serve the high family a century ago, became an inner circle scholar 30 years ago, and is from a really weird traditional family. her vibe is girl who has only read long words and pronounces them in the most clown-coded way irl. home school weirdo vibes.
