Knives Out (2019)
Knowing the way Knives Out ends doesn’t diminish its enjoyment one bit. This is a wonderfully original whodunnit that breaks the rules and comes up with all sorts of new tricks - the kind you can’t believe no one has thought of before. It’s an instant favorite.
The morning after his 85th birthday, wealthy crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead of a suicide. As the police go through the usual procedures, everything seems cut and dry except for one detail: Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig). He’s been hired anonymously to investigate. How could whoever slipped him that fat envelope of money in the middle of the night know Thrombey would die… unless they knew something the police don’t?
The genius of Knives Out is that we’re told very early what happened to Harlan Thrombey. Harlan’s nurse, Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas) mixed up his medications. He convinced her to walk away while he killed himself so no one would find out about the fatal mistake she’d made. Despite this, it takes no time for you to bond with Marta. Firstly, because she’s a good person who simply made a mistake. Secondly, because Benoit Blanc’s interrogation allows us to meet the members of the Thrombey family. Each of these characters is so unique and so memorable that a film with all of them together can only be categorized as a delight. It doesn’t matter that you already know “the ending”. You’re just having a great time (you’re not the only one; the performers are clearly having a lot of fun) sitting down and watching these people.
Then, this funny thing happens. You spend enough time with Linda Drysdale (Jamie Lee Curtis), her bumbling husband Richard (Don Johnson), their son Hugh (Chris Evans), Harlan’s son Walt (Michael Shannon), his wife Donna (Riki Lindhome), their son Jacob (Jaeden Martell), and Harlan’s daughter-in-law, Joni (Toni Collette) to think something might not be quite what it seems. Come to think of it, we know what happened to Harlan, but not who hired Benoit Blanc, so we really don't know after all. It gets to the point where you even suspect people who couldn’t have possibly had anything to do with Harlan’s death, like his housekeeper Fran (Edi Patterson), his elderly mother Wanetta (K Callan) or his gentle granddaughter Meg (Katherine Langford). There’s something amiss. You know Marta caused Harlan to kill himself but there’s more to this story. You know it. Before you think maybe the accident wasn’t an accident at all, let me stop you because writer/director Rian Johnson gives her one of the best quirks you could in a movie like this: the inability to lie. Now you see how complex a situation this is. If Benoit asks her directly if she contributed to Harlan’s death, she has to tell him. She’ll lose everything. Worse, the movie will end and we won’t get to find out what the deal is with the children and grandchildren.
The worst part of Knives Out is that these characters are not going to show up in a sequel. Benoit Blanc will but this film is filled with all of these great, memorable people. Some are slimy from the get-go, others are not what they seem at first. I had seen the film before. I knew the twists but it didn’t matter. I enjoyed seeing these people again and watching the hints pay off. Knives Out is a terrific screenplay and loads of fun. (December 31, 2022)

top 5 movies that you had to watch for uni
5. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance by John Ford (written by James Warner Bellah and Willis Goldbeck, based on a book by Dorothy M. Johnson): MY HUSBAND JAMES STEWART is in this movie. i watched it with hater friends who hated it but don't take their word for it please. if you like westerns but shy away from the violence you will like this movie (and probably already know it). imo it showcases an alternative side of masculinity in a genre that so often focuses on one single side. beautiful friendship between men. thematically extremely well done.
4. Sunset Boulevard by Billy Wilder (written by Wilder, Charles Brackett and D. M. Marshman Jr.): absolute classic, the atmosphere is perfect, the story is sooooo good, the characters are so well written and memorable. an iconic movie!!!
3. The Graduate by Mike Nichols (written by Calder Willingham and Buck Henry): Yeah i'm a sucker for a loser. again i watched this movie with my sister and we were both fighting for our lives cause whenever mrs robinson was on screen my sister would just say "milf." and whenever ben was on screen i would go heart eyes. again the soundtrack is noteworthy cause it's at the same time incredibly good (simon and garfunkel) and also absurd. awesome movie with one of my favourite endings of all time
2. THE MISSION (/Cheung Fo) by Johnnie To (written by Yau Nai-Hoi): This movie made me and my sister (who hates "serious" movies and subtitles) loose our shit. fr we were treating it like a drag race finale. vibes aside the movie is technically immaculate, looks amazing, hits impeccable emotional beats, plus the score goes INSANE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fp0KiMQ9ock link to the iconic theme)
The Philadelphia Story by George Cukor (written by Donald Ogden Stewart): MY HUSBAND JAMES STEWART is in this movie also. polycule movie of all time. a cukor classic. heavy hitters stewart grant and hepburn. meta relationship to katherine hepburn's real reputation in hollywood (if you want me to explain message me lmao). what can i say it's a perfect movie. and it's aabria iyengar's favourite movie!!!! enough said.
#tyyyyyyyy cal for this ask#nodding sagely at this remark#movies#the philadelphia story#james stewart#cheung fo#the graduate#sunset boulevard#the man who shot liberty valance

i love kat mcnmara a lot, and wanna watch walker: independence, but idk what its about? i hate watching a show for a character, incase they leave, or sometimes its so bad no matter how good the actor/actress is... is it over all good? is there other characters to route for? over all what's the story? sorry to bother you, but i know you would give me an honest opinion
Kat plays the main character if that's any help? adjfadfkjf and honestly, there's not a lot of characters that aren't lovable IMO. Also I'm very biased because Gabriela Quezada, Justin Johnson Cortez and Lawrence Kao are secondary mains and honestly I love them as actors and you will pry the character of Calian from my cold dead hands.
I am going to straight up say that 90% of the bad shit said about this show is from racism. The same people who sing the praises of the OG Walker replacing Lindsey with a white woman. Are pissed and hate bombed this show on every review site and post they could before it even started airing. There's LGBT rep, there's indigenous characters PLAYED BY INDIGENOUS ACTORS AND ACTRESSES AND THEY ARE NOT THE DAMN VILLAINS!!!! And They are constantly adding more cast members like it. I love this show. The only thing that annoys me is that it rarely gets uploaded logoless. Especially the Calian heavy eps or literally any ep that doesn't focus on Matt Barr.
I'll also tell you I'm not impartial. I am the most biased piece of shit ever especially when it comes to my faves. Also it's a western historical show set in Independence, Texas. And it kicked off with Abby (Kat) meeting Calian (Justin) after him and his tribe saved her life when her and her husband were attacked. He was killed, she survived and then she vowed revenge as soon as she noticed who it was (a white man in power no surprise) after Calian drops her off at the town and she meets the inhabitants. It's a lot more complex than that but I really enjoy it.
Cast includes (but not limited to): Katherine McNamara, Justin Johnson Cortez, Katie Findlay, Lawrence Kao, Gabriela Quezada, Philemon Chambers & Matt Barr

FALLING IN REVERSE FT. JELLY ROLL - "ALL MY LIFE"
youtube
"The album cover features frontman Ronnie Radke's mugshot after being arrested for domestic assault in 2012." well okay then!
[3.00]
Ian Mathers: Oh, I hate everything about this. [0]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: “It’s just not right what they do to you at that publication” - my husband, upon hearing this song [0]
Harlan Talib Ockey: I could easily spend a thousand words picking apart this song, but to limit it to its most egregious sins: Radke’s fake Southern accent is offensively poor. The mix is glassy and hyper-compressed. The lyrics are beyond hope. “I may have drew blood / But that was true love”? Is this Falling In Reverse’s idea of clever country wordplay? Meanwhile, Jelly Roll sounds deeply uncomfortable, like he’s straining to be heard. The “wee-hoo” is musically unnecessary and, more subjectively, feels like getting hit in the face with a large glob of spit. If I didn’t know better, I would think this was a mean-spirited parody of both genres. [0]
Iain Mew: Bro-country and nu-metal make for an excellent match, with sensibilities and sonics at just the right closeness to blend and contrast as needed. Identifying the semi-novelty singalong of "Heaven is a Halfpipe" as modeling the tone to bridge the two is even smarter. Hopefully someone will pick up those ideas and apply them to something with a chorus that isn't simultaneously underwhelming and grating. [5]
Jonathan Bradley: I’m sorry guys, we’re not currently accepting applications for a new “Gives You Hell.” [2]
Will Adams: I have a relatively high tolerance for nu-metal that's been polished within an inch of its life, but the choices made here suggest Ronnie Radke is as much of a troll musically as he is in real life. I could take the "to-gether, GETHURR, GETHUURRRR," but the "wii-OOOH" was a bridge too far. [4]
Nortey Dowuona: Jeris Johnson, pop singer/songwriter; Cory Quistad, rock singer/songwriter/guitarist who rips a crazy solo; Tyler Smith aka MYTH, singer/songwriter/producer; Charles Kallaghan Massabo, producer; Jelly Roll in general. These folks are involved in the production of this song, and I hope that explains the score. [6]
Taylor Alatorre: Final-scene-of-Malcolm-in-the-Middle-where-it's-revealed-that-Malcolm-has-to-pay-his-way-through-Harvard-by-working-part-time-as-a-janitor-in-order-to-fulfill-his-mom's-dream-of-becoming-a-genuinely-populist-President-of-the-United-States-core. One of the guys in Citizen King went on to do mastering work for Madvillainy and Donuts; people can change, though Radke likely hasn't. He does the necessary job here of making me mostly forget that I'm listening to Ronnie Radke, with a clutch assist from a more harmless kind of rogue. Come for the Jelly Roll, stay for the jiggy juggas. [6]
Mark Sinker: Larry, Moe and Curly are feuding. They’re jabbing each other in the eye -- except then they’ve also banded together to jab YOU in the eye, while capering about. Maybe it’s funny when they do this to each other, but this song does it to you, and never stops. [2]
Katherine St. Asaph: Rare Anthony Fantano W; I just wish the song was worse. [5]

BIOGRAPHY
(tw: death, substance abuse)
Born and raised in Texas, Kitty’s mother said goodbye to the world the moment Kitty was giving her first hello. The doctors deemed the cause of death was due to childbirth issues and left Kitty’s father broken. He lost the sunlight in his life and felt lost in the dark after losing the love of his life. Though he never particularly blamed his daughter for his wife’s death, she’d always be a constant reminder of it.
Though her father was loving and a kind man at his core, he took to alcohol to help cope with the loss in his life. This made Kitty grow up exceptionally fast. At some point, it seemed like their parent/child roles reversed. Kitty spent most of her youth making sure bills were paid and her father was still standing.
They lived in a small town off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and her father owned a fishing business. He had a bait and tackle shop, as well as being hired to occasionally take people on fishing trips. The latter wasn’t as successful, given the fact he was often too drunk to operate a boat. Kitty started working at the shop when she was only twelve years old.
Though her life was complicated and she had far too many school absences because of the amount she had to handle, she still loved her father completely and he loved her just the same. He just hadn’t had the first clue on how to be a proper father.
Everyone in town knew Kitty and was very fond of her sunny personality and warm demeanor. Some of the locals looked out for her in their small community.
When she was a teenager, she fell head over heels for a boy named Carter Johnson. Though she made him chase her a bit, it didn’t take much time until she gave in.
They dated for the remainder of high school and continued dating as she went off to college to pursue education. It felt like in a blink of an eye they were two smitten kids in high school to two newfound married adults.
Kitty had always dreamed of having a life and family of her own. She wanted to feel truly at home and loved in a way she never had growing up. She thought she finally found that with Carter, especially when her pregnancy test showed up positive.
Conrad came into their lives and she thought all the puzzle pieces of her dreams were finally coming together.
Unfortunately, Carter was in a nearly life ending accident that halted his career. Though they tried to find their new normal, it seemed like it never came. He became reliant on substances to get him by.
Kitty held onto hope that things would change and they could finally be a happy family, but change never came. In fact, things only got worse. Between her husband cheating on her and totaling their car one night after a bender, she knew she needed to leave. She couldn’t take care of another drunk for the rest of her life.
With a broken heart, Kitty filed for divorce. She received custody of Conrad, but didn’t necessarily have to fight for that either.
After the divorce, Kitty decided to move out to Briar Ridge where her cousin lived. She and Conrad needed a fresh start.
It’s been three years since she had made the move to South Carolina and has had little to no contact with her ex husband. Her focus is still on making a beautiful home for her and her son, who is now 5. She fills their home with love, too many pets, and a beautiful garden.
Kitty works as a first grade teacher and loves her job. She also occasionally makes costumes for the local theater department as well as the school’s plays. In her freetime, you would most likely find her doing a puzzle, drinking white wine, while listening to some cheesy audiobook. Though her life has always been rocky, she finally feels afloat… for now.

Remembering Ken Johnson Jr., MIT DAPER director of communications, promotions, and marketing
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/remembering-ken-johnson-jr-mit-daper-director-of-communications-promotions-and-marketing/
Remembering Ken Johnson Jr., MIT DAPER director of communications, promotions, and marketing
On Feb. 12, the Division of Student Life and MIT lost a valued community member. Ken Johnson Jr., director of communications, promotions, and marketing in the Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation (DAPER), passed away following complications from a stroke. He was 47 years old.
Johnson’s sports information career spanned 25 years. Prior to working at MIT, he worked at Brown University and was the sports information director at Manhattanville College, the University of Bridgeport, St. Anselm College, and Assumption University. For the last eight years, Johnson has been at MIT, where he loved working with student-athletes and was recognized many times for his contributions to the sports communications profession.
“Ken truly embraced his role in DAPER. He loved working with our student-athletes and coaches. He continuously displayed his commitment to making every team feel special,” says G. Anthony Grant, DAPER department head and director of athletics.
A passion for sports and collegiate athletics
As a Red Sox fan, an avid golfer, a marathon runner, and a lover of all kinds of sports, Johnson was passionate about working with all of MIT’s 33 sports teams — and it showed. He was recently honored by the College Sports Communicators for his 25-year career in the field. Johnson was also the second vice president of the Eastern Athletic Communications Association and the recipient of the 2019 U.S. Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association Excellence in Communications Award for NCAA Division III Track and Field.
Andrew Barlow, associate professor and baseball coach, also admired Johnson’s enthusiasm for his work, adding, “Ken was a true professional and an instant friend for those who had the opportunity to know him. His passion for the sports communication profession and his devotion to all the student-athletes with whom he supported were remarkable. He was a true fan of all our MIT athletic teams and was an integral part of our MIT baseball family.
“All our players will have fond memories of Ken’s reactions when they would try to make him laugh with silly post-game interview antics. All of us coaches will surely miss our post-game ‘debrief’ sessions where Ken would point out all of ‘our potential decision-making mistakes’ that we might have made,” Barlow says.
“He took great pride when Karenna Groff won the NCAA Woman of the Year Award, and he even attended the ceremony in San Antonio, Texas, where she was recognized,” says Grant. “Ken was also ecstatic when our Men’s Cross-Country team won the program’s first Division III NCAA National Championship. He even bought a full-sized replica of the trophy to put in his office.”
A true New Englander
Johnson grew up on Cape Cod and graduated from Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School. He subsequently earned a bachelor of science in sports management from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Katherine “Kate” Johnson, his sister Megan Warfield, her husband, Bill, and his beloved nephew Cameron.
Gifts in Johnson’s memory can be made to the Friends of DAPER Fund.

State of Terror by Hillary Rodham Clinton and Louise Penny
Read time: 3 Days Rating: 4.5/5 Stars
The Quote: How she loved this country. This glorious, broken beacon. — Ellen Adams
State of Terror is one of those unputdownable books that I am immensely glad to have read. I stayed up far too late to finish it. Anyone looking at my reviews/ read books knows this one is out of the left field for me. But the premise is fantastic and the idea of Hillary Clinton a former American Secretary of State writing a book that heavily features that role was too much to ignore. Louise Penny is known as a thriller writer and they have a preexisting friendship which means there was less likely to be awkwardness there (because yes it can transition to the writing). It must be said it was art mare than imitating life with the Russian President, Maxim Ivanov and former president Eric Dunn being obvious caricatures of their real-life counterparts (Putin and Trump respectively). This is written in alternating points of view, I appreciate the decision to focus heavily on women for the POV. It feels right. Hillary Clinton is one of America's foremost female politicians of her age. An inspiration to young women for so many years, it makes sense that any novel she writes that involves the political sphere would feature women prominently. While still treating men with fairness. While the POV does focus largely on women it does tend towards men in the last 1/3. The writing for the action sequences towards the end of the book were highly effective. It felt almost cinematic, fast switching between the perspectives during the military engagements.
The main character of State of Terror is Ellen Adams. American Secretary of State, new to the role and trying to mend the bridges left by a chaotic previous presidency. Nearly everyone in the story is on some level connected to her. Importantly to the story, Ellen has two children a son, Gil Bahar with her first husband, and a daughter, Katherine with her second husband Quinn Adams. Gil is something of the family wild child his past is key in a way. Even the major villain of the story is tied in a way to Ellen. Ellen is not based on Hillary Clinton but you can certainly see where the influences are, where Ellen is perhaps the better version of herself. She is a strong, loyal and fearless woman, learning the boundaries of her job and pushing them. All her previous experience is in the media world and she has those networks. It makes her an interesting character to read, she's not a politician she doesn't think like that. When push comes to shove it's not about votes it's about people. She's not afraid to get her hands dirty and take risks to save lives.
From that day forward, Ellen and Betsy were almost inseparable. Ellen taught Betsy that goodness existed, and Betsy taught Ellen how to kick attackers in the nuts. — Ellen Adams
Okay, so Betsy, Betsy. She is keeping Ellen grounded. Something I think the real Betsy, Betsy Johnson, did for Hillary Clinton. Louise Penny admits that that real Betsy was much softer and less sweary than Betsy Jameson, her fictional counterpart. But the fictional Betsy is wonderful I adore her. Strong and confident and not going to let anyone question her presence in Ellen Adams inner circle. She has been there from day dot and she will let you know about it if you question her. One of my favourite parts aspects of her characterisation in a bizarre way is that she is frequently referred to at June Cleaver. A reference to her appearance and her personality. For those like me who weren't certain on the June Cleaver reference, she was the maternal, female lead character in the American sitcom Leave It To Beaver.
The FSO, Foreign Service Officer, of the blurb is Anahita Dahir. Ana is Lebanese-American, whip-smart and young. I like her. She is a character of colour written in a way that gives her some strength while showing that yes she would definitely be treated as a suspect in the relation to anything terrorism related. She has connections to Gil and a story to tell all of her own. The guilt and doubt and determination to help that she carries feels right. I adored the easy friendship she formed with Katherine, I'm unsure of their ages but something there just felt right. It is known that they went to school at the same time. Katherine is not used as well as she possibly could be. But as I said this is left open for a sequel and I can see how she could be used later. Katherine has taken over Ellen's media empire, not as a journalist as something more bureaucratic. there is a lot to respect in the character choices with her.
One other character I want to talk about. Dr Bashir Shah. Bashir Shah is the big villain of the story and he is a brilliant villain. Bashir Shah is an interesting man. I appreciate the line "He'd grown, over the years, almost fond of Ellen Adams. He'd come to know her quite intimately, and that had bred a rather curious bond." I quite like him in a bizarre way. He's intelligent, suave, physically attractive and manipulative. But he's flawed. By that I mean he has a very clear and plain ability to get too close, to not be objective. Yes he's an awful man, yes he's deadly and he's a terrorist. But as a character, he's just fantastic, there are stereotype elements just more. He's not a character you want to succeed in his goals, you want him to get his comeuppance but he's captivating to read and that matters.
Have some quotes and comments because it will stop me spoiling the story.
The head of the Joint Cheifs of Staff looked more like a librarian than a warror. Interestingly, the Librarian of Congress looked like a warrior. — (Ellen) I love this line so so much. I appreciate a warrior librarian. Librarians are warriors, protectors of knowledge and history.
"They've found the perfect vehicle in Eric Dunn." "Their Trojan horse." said Betsy Whitehead smiled. "A good analogy. Hollow/ An empty vessel into which these men and women have poured their ambitions, their outrages, their hatreds and insecurities." — (Bert Whitehead and Betsy Jameson) This is one of the many lines that I read I just thought... Trump, that is Trump. I really like the Trojan Horse analogy.
It kept each from behaving especially badly. That was the teory. What it in that created wasn't a balance of terror but a perpetual state of terror. — (Ellen) How had i never thought of this?
"I mean Hitchcock knew that the closed door is much more frightening than the open. Think of when you were a kid at night. Staring at the closed door. wondering what was really in there. We filled the void with our imaginations. And we almost never thought it was some kind of fairy holding a puppy and some pudding." — (Canadian Eye) The Canadian is a reference to the head of one of the Canadian security agencies during a meeting of Five Eyes. This is quite honestly one of my favourite quotes in the book. I just really like it.
I quite like the inclusion of the quote from The Little Prince "And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.". It fits so well in context
They stared at each other. Much the same age, they'd grown up a world apart, but fate bought them together, like brothers. Like kindred spirits. Perhaps for that very reason, for this very moment. — (Gil) This is about Gil's relationship with Hamza. I really like their relationship. I like Gil, I like the way his mind works. Of the male characters, he's the one who has the most depth I think.
"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." — Anahita attributes this quote to Einstein. I had to look into it to see if the attribution was accurate. Apparently, it's a paraphrase but it's close. “I don’t know what weapons might be used in World War III. But there isn’t any doubt what weapons will be used in World War IV.” “And what are those?” a guest asked. “Stone spears,” said Einstein.
Louise Penny merges her worlds. Her best-known series appears to be Chief Inspector Armand Gamache (first book Still Life). Characters and the town Three Pines both appear. Also, a book of poetry (that if Penny if publishes I will buy) called I'm F.I.N.E. by Ruth Zardo. "It stood for "Fucked up, Insecure, Neurotic, and Egotistical."
I enjoyed the ending. It has definitely been left open for a sequel if Hillary Clinton and Louise Penny so choose. It could be good to see a less personal story, villain. But that doe raise the question would it work? Or is Shah and his connection to the wider story so important to the writing. That ending the sequence of events we see is rewarding to the reader and suits the tone of the book, keeping the reader engaged and questioning what they thought they knew. There are undoubtedly signposts to indicate where this was headed but I missed them. On a reread chances are what appears a little insignificant in the moment may just click into place as important. This is probably a 4.5-star book for me. It rewarded me for stepping out of my comfort zone. I really liked the characters and the writing style. It was a joy to see so many women together working for the good of others. But with them still being human and occasionally at odds.

Who Was Mary W. Jackson?
On June 24, 2020, NASA announced the agency’s headquarters building in Washington, D.C., was to be named after Mary W. Jackson, the first African American female engineer at NASA.
Jackson’s story — along with those of her colleagues Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Christine Darden — was popularized with the release of the “Hidden Figures” movie, based on Margot Lee Shetterly’s book by the same name.
Today, as the accomplishments of these women are brought to light, we celebrate them as Modern Figures — hidden no longer. Despite their recent recognition, we cannot forget the challenges that women and BIPOC faced and continue to face in the STEM fields.
Background
Jackson showed talent for math and science at an early age. She was born in 1921 in Hampton, Virginia, and attended the all-Black George P. Phenix Training School where she graduated with honors. She graduated from Hampton Institute (now Hampton University) in 1942 with a bachelor of science degree in both mathematics and physical sciences.
Jackson worked several jobs before arriving at the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics (NACA), the precursor organization to NASA. She was a teacher, a receptionist, and a bookkeeper — in addition to becoming a mother — before accepting a position with the NACA Langley Aeronautical Laboratory’s segregated West Area Computers in 1951, where her supervisor was Dorothy Vaughan.
Accomplishments
After two years in West Computing, Jackson was offered a computing position to work in the 4-foot by 4-foot Supersonic Pressure Tunnel. She was also encouraged to enter a training program that would put her on track to become an engineer — however, she needed special permission from the City of Hampton to take classes in math and physics at then-segregated Hampton High School.
She completed the courses, earned the promotion, and in 1958 became NASA’s first African-American female engineer. That same year, she co-authored her first report, “Effects of Nose Angle and Mach Number on Transition on Cones at Supersonic Speeds.” By 1975, she had authored or co-authored 12 NACA and NASA technical publications — most focused on the behavior of the boundary layer of air around an airplane.
Legacy
Jackson eventually became frustrated with the lack of management opportunities for women in her field. In 1979, she left engineering to become NASA Langley’s Federal Women’s Program Manager to increase the hiring and promotion of NASA’s female mathematicians, engineers, and scientists.
Not only was she devoted to her career, Jackson was also committed to the advancement of her community. In the 1970s, she helped the students in the Hampton King Street Community Center build their own wind tunnel and run experiments. She and her husband Levi took in young professionals in need of guidance. She was also a Girl Scout troop leader for more than three decades.
Jackson retired from Langley in 1985. Never accepting the status quo, she dedicated her life to breaking barriers for minorities in her field. Her legacy reminds us that inclusion and diversity are needed to live up to NASA’s core values of teamwork and excellence.
