AKA: me planning out headcanons because I want to make this into a fic. Also this is pure angst, you have been warned.

Race gets back to the lodging house first. Of course he does; the combination of long legs and adrenaline means he can run really fast when he needs to. There’s nothing he wants more than to smoke his cigar, but he lost it in the fray and even if he hadn’t, he isn’t sure he’d be able to light it with his shaking hands.

Albert doesn’t speak for a long while. There are a million thoughts buzzing in his head as always but for the first time he can’t form them into words. He just sits on his bed, holding onto Race’s hand for dear life. (Race is secretly grateful for this; he craves the touch just as much as Al.)

Henry can’t stop moving. Even though his ribs ache and it hurts to breathe, he fears the breakdown that will come once he stands still. Instead he floats between the newsies, checking in to make sure everyone is doing okay — or as okay as they can be. He needs to be useful right now or else he’ll completely shut down.

Finch is inconsolable. He can still hear Crutchie screaming his name. He could have turned back. He should have turned back. But like a cowardly little bird, he flew away. The others try to tell him that it’s not his fault, that there was nothing he could’ve done. He doesn’t believe them.

In spite of everything, Specs is thanking the world for small miracles. His glasses didn’t crack; his bruises are only minor; and as Romeo lies sleeping in his lap, he makes a vow to get up as soon as possible the next day and check in on Crutchie. He charts his course through back alleys and fire escapes to make it to the Refuge window without being seen. Right now though, he rests, carding his fingers through Romeo’s hair. Things are going to be okay, Specs would make sure of it.

Tommy Boy won’t let anyone touch Splasher. He finally got the poor boy to stop wailing in agony, and he wasn’t about to let some pair of untrained hands slip up and cause Splasher to end up in more pain than he already was. Instead, Tommy Boy gently wipes the blood from his friend’s brow and whispers soothing words. He places his rosary around Splasher’s neck; Tommy Boy has no idea if Splasher is Catholic or even believes in God at all, but he says a prayer of the two of them all the same.

No one hears from Elmer for a frighteningly long while. An unspoken trepidation that he had been arrested passes through the boys until Jojo silently appears at the doorway with Elmer in tow. He holds a prayer book, his face puffy and red from crying. What he’d said to the sister was right, it had been bound to rain sooner or later. He just hadn’t expected the torrential downpour of his own tears to finally bring him back to church.

Davey and Les come home to a terrified mother and a proud father. Sarah bandages them up, listening to Les’s every word about how things had been going so great until they hadn’t. Mayer jokes that now he and Davey have matching wounds. Davey doesn’t say anything. He can’t stop thinking about Jack.

Jack is nowhere to be found.

Life series au concept

Tw: mentioned death, PTSD, paranoia, blood, heavily implied sh, neglect?? (Kinda)

We all know of the headcanon of the winners remembering the death games after they've won the life series while others have no memories of previous lives.

But what if it was switched.

Everyone being thrown into the games during third life by the watchers but they go about their lives almost treating it like a joke..

Then last life begins, and then Grian is different, he's avoiding people, more aggressive towards those he doesn't trust, more paranoid even but everyone just thinks nothing of it "it's Grian!" they say nothing is wrong. Even when he's reintroducing himself to the others and even asking for their names but it's still pushed aside.

Then double life begins and Scott doesn't let anyone even think about getting close, especially pearl. This isn't like Scott, sure he's petty but he's not one too just push someone away without any rhyme or reason, the others are starting to get worried.

Overtime during double life not only has Grian becomes even more aggressive especially towards scar but also Scott mumbles to himself about nightmares, flinching at every touch, with blood seeping through the bandages on his arm he refuses to explain to anyone that asks.

Death after death, game after game, the cycle continues on and on. This isn't a fun game between friends, it never was. It was meant to drive them insane over and over again until no one remembers who they are in the end.

It was meant to tear them apart.

And that's all I got right now (I have more details but this is just to test waters since this does have more sensitive topics)

pt3 of season 10 headcannons

Headcannons:

Mad scientist tm

Always has redstone dust sticking to him somehow

Rubs his forehead when thinking or when he is irritated so he just got redstone dust chilling there

He has one of those super protect ulimate extra phonecases

Uses men 1 in 8 or something like that

He only listens to classical music or heavy metal nothing else just that

He physically is unable to remove his mustache hes tried

Only drinks coffee when it has at least two spoons of sugar in it

[TUVOKTOBER: Day 9] Ballet with the Captain.

because i have to meet with my pcp, after tonight i won't be medicated for a bit (i hate you US healthcare system). but here are some things i want to start incorporating into my routine because they are DOABLE with or without meds. and i want to remind myself i can do things even if they seem extremely difficult. setting the bar low and i can start building on these once i get my medication sorted.

job applications: spend at least 30-60mins looking a day, try to find and submit one every 1-2 days. the right opportunity will come.

self-care walks: every other day. go in the morning after you eat breakfast if it isn't too hot. even if it is just around the block, some movement is better than no movement.

driving: we gotta get back in the car bestie! start by driving minimum once a week short distances, build it up over time as needed. driving is scary esp where u live but u can do this! u have done it before! u are capable! and a safe driver!

meals: you are already doing really well with this but continue cooking one meal a week and incorporating more vegetables, especially on non-cooking days. and continue with your (tasty) high-protein midday snack. give ur body that fuel girl.

articles: try and read a few (2-3) articles per week. they don't all have to be educational. this will help gain inspo for your substack (if we still want to do that). and its cool and fun to expose yourself to different forms of reading!

April 27, 2024:

This became a cult classic for its griminess, every time it's brought up people highlight the squalor, the filth. And I also think that atmosphere is its strong point. However, that's not enough for me here.

The title doesn't make sense to me. There's not really a puzzle for the reader to put together or follow along with. And this edition is full of weird typos (random periods in the middle of sentences, word substitutions of similar-looking words, etc) that made me think maybe there was some secret puzzle! But no, as far as anyone can tell, those are just mistakes from it being digitized from the 1991 print copy. Disappointing.

I'm frustrated by the lack of exploration here. Even the body horror is just kind of... there but not emphasized. It's a character study of people who suck, but people who suck in ways I don't think are fun.
