The ship names are shit

This might be just me, but most of the ship names are just kinda shit. Ok it’s definitely me I just kinda hate the use of names that obviously sound like two individual names inelegantly mushed together

Like, Andreil, Kandreil, Renison and Jeanee are good.

Jerejean and keremy are maybeeeeee just barely okay but we could have had Jeanemy and kevemy

Then you get the absolute horrendous ones. No creativity has gone into these and most of them are with Kevin: Kevjean, kevthea, sethallison, kevseth, kevriko, kevaaron, Kateaaron, like………

No creativity.

Of course with critique you must also give ways to improve so I present to you:

Kevean (Kevin Jean), theavin or Mulday (Thea Kevin), alliseth (Allison Seth), Sethin or Gorday (Seth Kevin), Keko (Kevin Riko) (I really like this one bc it’s so stupid) katon or Aarlyn or Aatelyn (last one bc it sounds stupid)(Katelyn Aaron) Datt or Man (Dan Matt) (the former is better imo) Caila (Cat Laila) and last but not least my absolute favourite Kaaron.

KAARON. WE COULD HAVE HAD KAARON. THATD BE SUCH AN APPROPRIATE NAME FOR THEM

Ok tbh I’m open for suggestions on any of those names except for kaaron bc my names r probs shit too but at least I try more than just the full names directly attached to each other.

We can even do things like the marauders fandom does with the association game! Like Rabbitqueen or runnerqueen for KevinxNeil. And sunqueen for Jeremy x Kevin, historic bitchfight for Neil and Jean, maybe rabbitmonster for Andreil but idk Andreil’s fine and I don’t like the association with monster with Andrew

aftg fandom is scared shitless of romantic rarepairs. i’m not talking about smut pairings, i’m talking real relationship pairings non-centered around sex. why wouldn’t jean x aaron work? thea x katelyn? renison x lailalvarez? bee x abby? kevin x nicky (+/- x erik) ? the minute you suggest it you get your head bashed in and your fan business card revoked “because it makes no sense” (*ahem* KEVAARON fans know the trauma). yes it does ok? it can work. that’s the whole POINT of fandom. don’t like don’t read don’t interact. but don’t tell me it isn’t working or believable. anyways, thoughts on the fandom’s cowardice?

obsessed with how aggressive this is actually. i agree with you on the point that aftg fans seem to be FAR more invested in policing other people and their views than. most other fans I've associated with. idk if it's because there's so much sensitive content with it that they feel like to change it is to disservice it but I've seen it get ridiculously intense. it sounds like you've personally had bad experiences so i don't blame you for feeling like this.

i mostly disagree with the general point here though because i feel like rare pairs are one thing that the aftg fans have on deck. hell I've got people in my inbox right now talking about Ichirou/Andrew. to be perfectly honest i don't read proper fic that much but i have seen really random pairings from when i have poked around. that might not be representative of what's actually out there, i don't know. so i guess i won't disagree because i don't really know enough.

disagree that people can't criticize pairings—that's the right of a fan. agree that people should really not go into content they don't like just so to criticize it..keep that shit on your own pages don't ruin things other people enjoy for no reason.

kinda ehh on your point that 'any pairing will make sense in fandom because that's the whole point of fandom' because, for me at least, i dont like it when dynamics and personalities are TOO different from canon and i think that sometimes canon personalities just dont go well together. i don't think that just anyone can be shipped together because it simply won't interest me if there's no chemistry. like you said though, to each their own and absolutely nothing has to be universal, people should take what they want and leave the rest untouched.

Honestly, I was a little shocked when I found out Aaron x Kevin was a popular fanon ship, because I genuinely cannot remember a singular interaction they had. And they’re both in my top 3 favorite aftg characters, so I was paying attention to them individually. At least by the 3rd book. Maybe not during the first book.

But they don’t even really make sense as a pair the spares pairing????? Because they both have girlfriends. I get wanting to pretend Thea doesn’t exist because we only saw them interact for like half a scene and there some questionable implications there, but like Aaron and Katelyn actually have a very compelling dynamic. They are very cute.

Anyways I doubt I’ll ever ship it but as I’m probably going to end up rereading aftg soon, I’m definitely going to be looking out for the crumbs that led to that particular ship.

While I totally agree with this, and there’s definitely a double standard there, I think there’s a lot more than the age gap bothering people.

Personally, I don’t like her actions or beliefs against Jean nor do I appreciate her loyalty to the ravens even in the face of the obvious abuse Jean and Kevin suffered, especially after they try to tell her about it all. She threatens Jean into talking to her about the ravens, accuses him of basically sleeping around to get his perfect court number, and (please correct me if I’m wrong) but doesn’t she continue to minimize Kevin’s experiences in the nest even into their later adulthood and marriage?

That being said…

We have to recognize that Thea herself is a product of the abuse and manipulation of the nest. She believes the lies she was told about the ravens, about Riko, about Jean, and that affects the way she reacts to information about them even post-graduation. However, her insistence on belittling and minimizing the trauma Kevin and Jean went through is something I still can’t quite get over, especially if it lasted long after they all got out. If she and Kevin get married, there has to be a mutual understanding of the fact that they were both abused/manipulated and progress in light of that. But I haven’t heard of any evidence of that.

I love the idea of who Thea could’ve been or could be. Her experiences and attitude make her a really cool character and her development could be really interesting to see. Unfortunately, her position as a side character (and a minor side character at that) leaves little room for her development through the narrative and any development she does get is connected to her relationships with Kevin and Jean and Riko rather than her as a character in her own right. That means a lot of people take her at face value and see only what we’ve been told. It causes so much discourse because she, despite being a minor character, is in a relationship with one of the biggest major characters of the series.

Ultimately, I understand those who like her and I understand those who don’t. And though I often find myself more on the side of those who don’t like her, I do like the discourse and the fanon development of her and her story.

Remembered that Renee turned 24 in September in Neil's first year. I have never seen any hate towards her for her age gap with Jean (5 yrs) Especially with us finding out Jean's age in tsc this year.

i'm gonna discuss the rair pairings tonight and you won't stop me. okay so recently i've come across a post about katelyn/thea, and even though i hadn't given this pair much a thought, i became slightly intrusted in it, because it's not the worst duo. in fact, it's rather great depending the world katelyn's been living in since her childhood. on the one hand, the relationships between thea and kevin have a solid ground beneath them: both of them are the ex-ravens, so going by this it'll be a perfect understanding between them. kevin, who'd been struggling to stay alive till the realization he's not a part of the riko's empire now, can definitely help thea to get over her fears and pain, because he's aware of what the ex-raven's life. but. they will always remember the laws of the nest and face the fact they break them with every tender kiss, gentle touch or other hint of true feelings. and here comes katelyn who's been exploring the advantages of the world. she has never stopped exploring it, nah, she's been taking everything she could, and if we're looking for someone to show the beauty side of that world to thea, it'll be kathelyn. she would take her for a long walks - new place every time. she would teach her to experience happiness from the tiniest details. what is more, aaron's rare remarks on kevin's/neil's past or condition gave her an appropriate chance to learn thea's story. therefore katelyn would be as careful as she has to to stay away from thin ice until thea wanted to share it willingly. that's why i consider them as a potential couple now, don't judge me, pls.
