went out and saw the 02 movie with my Vegiemon-- I actually really enjoyed it!! I haven't seen a Digimon movie in cinemas since I was a kid but it was worth it for the boomy audio alone lol, the fight scenes were incredible and I really enjoyed how they portrayed everyone all grown up like in Tri and how they all interact (but oof oww what happened to Armadillomon's voice, I know Wormmon was recast for the dub too but it wasnt nearly as jarring)

I hope the whole 2 other people in the cinema enjoyed it too lmao, I guess that's the nature of things over here....... very hard to find fans in my backwater state down under nowadays ; v ;

Three Ships: Sterek- I was obsessed with sterek for so long! It has the best fanart, nearly all my AO3 bookmarks are sterek fanfics, and I even have so much swag from cons! ShinSena- I met my best friend because of this otp, my og and PUBLISHED novel was inspired by a fanfic I made FOR my bestie with this otp. I will always have a softspot for them. Lanil × Cullen- these dummies have me IN A CHOKEHOLD. I've been teetering on Lanil × Solas recently, buuuuut Lanil × Cullen are my everything. They should be enemies, it's been TWELVE YEARS of separation, one's an elf, one's a human, there's a thousand reasons why they shouldn't work. But they. just. keep. finding. each. other. and keep LOVING each other despite everything. 💕

Currently Reading: Spirit Gate by Kate Elliott. I love Kate Elliott! Her Crown of Stars series was SO SO SO good! It's massive, full of unique worldbuilding, and interesting fantasy races & cultures. This new one (it's actually pretty old, but I haven't read it yet) is shaping up to be just as interesting! Reeves (people) get harnessed into GIANT EAGLES and scout around the country trying to help everyone and enforce justice and law. And that's the tip of the iceberg. Less than 44 pages in and I was HOOKED.

Currently Watching: Re-watching Rizzoli & Isles! I love this show, I've watched it so many times! I like to also play it in the background while working on something else.

Currently Eating: I just finished eating some microwaveable burritos? 😅 I make them true cuisine by adding extra cheese, sour cream, and CholulaTM hot sauce~

Currently Craving: hmmmm... Chinese food. But, like, crappy American Chinese food. I just moved back home after years abroad, so every few days, my mom and I indulge in one of my cravings lol. I'm sure in a few weeks/months, I'll be craving all the real Chinese dishes I used to eat (or that Japanese curry place I used to eat at all the time!)

1. Digimon Adventure 01 – The first show that I watched because I liked it, instead of simply watching whatever was on PBS/Nick/Disney. Also the first kid show I watched that had an ongoing plotline.

2. Lost – I stopped watching partway through S3 but I was very much into it during the beginning.

3. Ugly Betty – Some of it I expect wouldn't hold up if I watched it today. Still fun at the time and a satisfying finale.

4. Legend of the Seeker – One of the most pleasant fandoms I was ever in.

5. That 70s Show – One of 2 shows more than 2 seasons long that I've seen every episode of. No DVDs, no pirating, no streaming. I watched it entirely via reruns on the CW, a bit of comfort during a less fun part of my life.

6. The Middle – Parents-and-kids sitcoms aren't always my cup of tea, but this distinguished itself by having a less wealthy although hardly poor family, the small town setting, and the three young actors were quite good and got barely any praise for it. And contrary to most of the American sitcoms I saw in the 90s and 00s, the 2 older kids actually liked their younger brother and paid attention to him.

7. Bomb Girls – Few characters have ever made me feel more seen than Kate.

8. M*A*S*H – The other long show I've seen all of. I was flipping through channels in August 2020 because everything was on repeat. I had seen about 15 episodes before, enough to know that I liked it, and I watched it on TV for awhile until Alex Trebek died and I switched back to Jeopardy.

Crop Tops I was just a kid in the 90s, that wasn’t my style. I also remember thinking I didn’t want to show my stomach. Studded Belts I had one in the 2000s. Scrunchies Loved ‘em. Still do. Butterfly Clips Loved those as well and still do. Chokers I don’t like things around my neck like that. Plaid, Pleated Mini Skirts Not my style, personally, but I liked some of the looks. Slip Dresses I didn’t wear stuff like that. Long, Leather Jacket Blazers Didn’t wear ‘em, but they’re cool. You look badass in a leather jacket haha. Chain Belts Not my thing. Boob Tubes Is that the same as a tube top? Not a fan. Digimon Kizuna thoughts

All spoilers will be under the cut!

Fresh off of Tri when Kizuna was announced, I wrote up some hopes I had for this movie. Without looking back at that list, I'm pretty sure this movie managed to not hit any of the things I wanted off of that list - but I'm still walking away completely satisfied. The characters, the story, the setting all feel like completely natural progression from how I remember them, it manages to tell a compelling story in a fairly short movie, the animation and designs are drop dead gorgeous. It's clearly a labor or love and I'm thankful for everyone who worked on it. In some ways it leaves me wanting more - I'd love one more entry with the 02 group as a focus, and I think there would be a lot of value in an entry that focuses more on Digimon intigrated with the human world rather than yet another story about kids discovering Digimon. But if this is the last time we see these twelve in this form, what a way to go. 

This is absolutely stream of consciousness writing while I’m on my second watch through of the day (In lieu of livetweeting - I’ll spare my followers that much lol). Is it rambling? Absolutely. It may or may not be of interest, but I thought it would be something fun to do regardless. If you decide to read, I hope you enjoy!

Tom Fahn’s Agumon is noticeably a bit lower pitched even compared to Tri, weather he can’t take his voice up as much or if it’s a different portrayal I’m not sure but it still fits him really well - Tentomon’s voice feel slightly different too. Funny enough Gabumon is somehow lighter and more childish than his original portrayal, but it also fits him well.

Both Tri and Kizuna have such a weird process to their casting - They got back actors that as far as I can tell haven’t done much if anything since their days on Digimon, they’ve gotten back actors for side characters with bit parts. They’ve hired new actors that seem to take the original voice into account and take their own spin on them, and then they hire actors with absolutely no regard for how the original sounded to the point that it just plain conflicts with the established character. It’s all over the place and it’s weird.

Johnny Yong Bosch's portrayal seems slightly different from Tri, maybe he's playing him slightly older, maybe it's the slightly different personality, maybe I'm imagining it. Something about it reminds me of Doug Erholtz's portrayal, which is an added bonus when JYB was already one of the best of the recasts. Minutes in and I'm completely sold on Nicholas Roye's Matt as well, it sounds like a natural progression from his Adventure voice.

In a vacuum Griffin Burns is a decent Davis, but he's one of the recasts that immersion breaking because not only does he sound nothing like Brian Donovan, but his take on Davis is higher pitch than Donovan's so it's impossible to hear him as older. The fact that Donovan was supposed to reprise his role is just salt on the wound. With the insane amount of delays that this dub got, they surely could have brought him back onboard... It's a  shame that 2 our of 3 roles I've heard of Burns have been a replacement of another actor, hope he can get more roles where he can shine more. On the other hand, Bryce Papenbrook as Cody is brilliant casting coming from his 02 voice for what little we get to hear of him.

Yolei didn't sound to great in her video message, but by the time we see her in person her VA has gotten into the role and captures her really well. Hawkmon sounds fine enough, but I'm way more upset than I should be about Armadillomon's voice considering he doesn't have many lines. A recast was mandatory here, and 'medium-deep southern accent' should honestly be pretty easy to replicate but what we got was horrific. What casting director knew enough about the characters to know that Hawkmon had a British accent but not enough to know what an armadillo sounds like??

Mimi is just straight up Sakura now! I actually thought Kate Higgens would have made a great Yolei, kinda funny to see her here as Mimi now.

Not only did Agumon's "Polly want a cracker?" line slay me, but there's something about Tom Fahn's portrayal that really hits me, even though he's not even my favorite Digimon. It hasn't even been a long time since I've heard it - Tri wasn't that long ago, and I just rewatched Adventure/02 within the past few weeks, but hearing him made me a bit emotional, ha. Same thing happened with his first appearance in Tri, and that was after having seen it in Japanese and knowing what was going to happen!

The opening battle is like a complete screw-you to Tai's arc in Tri with Greymon smashing into buildings and Tai completely unfazed. I'm here for it, lol.

The remastered Digivolution sequences are nice but in true nostalgia fashion I kinda prefer the originals, haha.

Izzy's computer is counting down a 'time rimit'.

Agumon says something to the effect of “Aren’t I always hungry?“ and I don't feel like it’s a reference/jab at Tri, but it got a chuckle out of me anyway.

Tai's classmate is blatantly voiced by JYB too, ha.

Matt gives his location as 'inside the restaurant' when calling an ambulance which seems... not helpful. Love that Tai's reaction to a girl collapsing is a confused "Is she drunk?"

An article on Tai's phone is written in perfect English and he gets message from the name Izzy specifically so I'd assume this is a change for the US release. Subtitles would have been perfectly fine but it's a nice effort to keep immersion.

"The ol' Izz-master" I’m so, so glad they got Jeff Nimoy to write this script, bless Toei.

Only 4 of the Digidestined participating in the battle against the Digidestined is kinda disappointing until I realized that it was a throwback to Our War Game - TK and Izzy get to participate more this time around! As per usual Tentomon (Kabuterimon) manages to sneak in a hilarious line here.

'Lime Magazine' just doesn't have the same ring to it...

TAI'S MAGAZINES...

Tai calling Agumon 'little buddy' is the second scene to hit me right in the feels.

Matt is the only one to reach out to the 02 kids during the movie, I wonder if he felt guilty about what went down in Tri and kept in touch with them a bit more since.

Seeing Kari and TK tied up in a dark room like that is actually one of the more shocking scenes in the movie. That could have ended very differently if this was a different movie...

Meiko shows up for literally one scene with Meicoomon which has... interesting implications. This movie retroactively makes her more tragic as well, as even if she didn't sacrifice Meicoomon there's a chance their partnership would have dissolved anyway - almost a complete lose-lose, there was no way for them to be happy together.

Himekawa is also retroactively more tragic as it's possible she would have been able to see Tapirmon again here - one shows up in the crowd shot!

Honestly this is the movie Himekawa deserved - she was a really interesting character that got wasted and underused in Tri, and while Menoa parallels her in a lot of ways her stoicism just isn't as interesting and Hime's decent into madness was.

I'm pretty sure Menoa doesn't say "Oh shit" but honestly I'm gonna pretend she does.

I mentioned on Twitter how Leomon doesn't die in this one because he never showed up, but there's one fighting an Eosmon in what I think is Osaka and he doesn't die, and GOOD ON HIM, HE BROKE THE CYCLE!

Omnimon having limbs sliced off got an audible gasp from me.

Matt ACTUALLY got to curse in this movie, character development!!

"Just one thing: Meow" I had to pause the movie, I lost it

Story wise, theme wise, character wise I get it, but mad Sora got screwed over in this movie. Would have been nice if 'To Sora' was included inside of the movie at least.

I still don't like Agu and Gabu's new evolutions, but they did feel really earned and a natural extension of the plot. What better way to spark an evolution than such a huge sacrifice? Izzy's perfectly timed 'prodigious' was the icing on the cake, coming at such a fitting emotional moment and possibly being the last time we'll hear it from Izzy.

When the Eosmon start disappearing all over the world there's a shot of an exhausted lone Numemon who had clearly held off the Eosmon with all the poop that is strewn about. THAT is the next story I want to see.

Unfortunately this movie is in the Tri School of Only Using Champion Level. It's actually pretty inexcusable that we we don't see WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon one more time, but even the other characters should have gone up to Ultimate if not Mega for one final sendoff. I wish we could have seen them truely fight as a team once more, even just for fanservice.

My strongest complaint with the movie itself is that it just kinda... ends. The ending is super emotional, but it just skips ahead afterwards and says 'things are going to be ok!' and ends. I would have liked to see the rest of the kids once more, seeing how they handle the fallout or how they might support Tai and Matt - or maybe a little about what Tai and Matt have taken away from this whole things. Just felt like we needed an extra couple of minutes.

Will we see these particular versions of these characters again? From what I can tell this movie did well in Japan and it’s trending pretty well on Amazon, so who knows. I hope if we do, it’s because the writers come up with an idea they really believe in and not just for the sake of a sequel. But if not, I’m definately greatful for what we have.

The Little Hours (2017)

I love Nick Offerman and Aubrey Plaza, also I like Alison Brie a lot, so this has been a long time coming. (Actually not, because I found about this movie like three months ago and last week it turned out to be on Netflix lol) I watched it. I laughed a little. Bit nasty jokes, bit nasty scenery. I really enjoyed it. Despite of Kate Micucci character, because she annoyed me a little. Of course Nick Offerman stoke every scene, he was in, there is no doubt. I had fun.

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019)

I’m gonna write another actor here. Ryan Reynolds. On of two guys, that could actually turn me gay. I can say with pure heart, despite of the silliness of the jokes, I laughed at like 80% of the jokes (I really dig Ryan’s humor, no doubt here). The world building! Ah! Just perfect! But the rest... I mean, the story was just okay, I mean, it was watchable and enjoyable, but in the end it was nothing new. The characters (despite Pikachu of course) were okay. The ending and plot twist. Man that was dumb and empty, I really didn’t like it. But Ryan and the Pokémon’s, they really make it up for it.

(I’m not a huge Pokémon fan, but I have a big respect for the franchise. I watched the anime as a kid, but I always liked digimon more. It’s the games, that made me love it. I played Pokémon Green (or something like that) on an emulator on my phone and it clicked. It was that kind of game I always missed in my life. Many beautiful hours)

Zombieland (2009)

I like zombies. Slow zombies, fast zombies, mutant zombies, I don’t care. It was the zombie movie I needed to watch. And i watched it. And it was good. Woody, Emma and Jesse were great of course. Their characters did develop throughout the movie and I enjoyed watching theme become friends and a group. It also has good world building (I guess, since it didn’t have much to build on). The ending, the shooting, the jokes. Best Left 4 Dead adaptation I have ever seen.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw (2019)

If you have seen the trailers, you know, what the movie is about. It’s a giant cake filled with great action and humor, with a cherry on top of it, which is Ryan Reynolds obviously. Idris Elba playes great, but unfortunately, the bad guys aren’t as good as their supposed to be. I catched a little Thanos vibe from theme and not necessarily in a good way. It’s still good spend two hours of watching Dwayne and Jason. It was great. But it could and it should be something more. But still, the cake, go watch it. Seriously, do it.

The Scorpion King (2002)

I regret now wanting to watch this movie. It was a good memory, why did I have to ruin it? I guess the movie is just fine. Less than okay. But still higher than “Good Cthulhu, stop this torture”. Watching Dwayne learning acting is more painful then I remember. The plot, my Cthulhu, it would have been bad even 20 years earlier. Side characters, awful to watch, I hated them all (expect for Michael Clark Duncan, shame he’s dead now :c), especially the sorcerer, she was so doll and empty. Why did he even like her? And that “nudity” scene, that was so awful and pathetic. I did enjoy the movie a little bit tho. But it was a lot lot less, then I’ve remembered and expected. Shame. It had a good concept.

1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

When it comes to Inazuma, there’s several, like Tsurugi x Kinako, Handa x Max and, especially, Midorikawa x Yagami. The third one is especially irritating.

For other fandoms, I don’t get Taichi x Meiko from Digimon Tri, which seems to have been a thing some people think they were shoving down our throats, but I didn’t see it at all. And even if I did, I wouldn’t have liked it.

Same with Midoriya x Bakugou in BNHA. Look, I’ve only watched the first two seasons, but Bakugou has been an asshole to Midoriya (and in general) through and through. There’s no redeeming what he did and how much he’s abused poor Midoriya for absolutely no reason. That ship is not only pointless to me, but also super toxic. At this stage, at least.

Also, Max x Chloe from Life Is Strange SUCKS. It’s similar to Midoriya and Bakugou: Chloe treats Max like utter shit most of the time and simply tries to balance it out by saying, “hey, yer my friend,” and that’s apparently what people are crazy about. Max deserves MUCH better than goddamn Chloe. Max x Kate all the way. Or even Max x Warren, because that guy tries super hard for her and he deserves the world.

22. Popular character you hate?

Oh, boy. Here we go.

If it isn’t clear yet, I hate Bakugou, I hate Chloe and I hate Midorikawa. (No, I have nothing against Tsurugi, Kinako, Max or Handa–I just don’t see the point.)

Other than those, I hate Tenma from IE. He’s insufferable and a fucking god who leeches off everyone else and sucks their power to become stronger. The final match from Galaxy was a literal deus ex machina. Blergh.

If any of you have played Another Code/Trace Memory, that game is full of dipshits. Ashley’s dad is a dipshit no matter what he does. Bill is a dipshit. The rich girl from Another Code R is a dipshit. Matthew is a smaller dipshit, but still one. The only main character who isn’t a real dipshit is D. He’s cool.

Oh, and I’m not a fan of Ikki from Saint Seiya either, nor Kabeyama, Tsukishima and Oikawa from Haikyuu. I don’t hate them the way I hate Chloe, but I still don’t like them.

23. Unpopular character you love?

All of them, probably. I absolute ADORE MIneta from BNHA. I absolutely ADORE Handa and the rest of original Raimon, the forgotten kids from Go and Earth Eleven, along with Kozoumaru from Ares. I love Ryouga from Ranma even though my girlfriend can’t stand him (sorry, boo). I FUCKING love Krillin, Yajirobe and Yamcha from Dragon Ball. I love Kimahri from FFX. Heck, I even love Osomatsu.

And, well, I love everyone who deserves better than they got. Which is awfully common.

Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution KIZUNA Comes to Home Video this Autumn

  The wait is nearly over—the final chapter in the story of Digimon Adventure is coming to you this autumn!

  Produced for the series's 20th anniversary, Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna follows the original DigiDestined into young adulthood. The film takes place five years after the Digimon Adventure tri. film series, itself set six years after the original TV anime. Taichi and the other DigiDestined discover that, as they grow into adulthood, their bonds will break and their partner Digimon will disappear. With the newly-discovered Eosmon robbing DigiDestined around the world of their consciousness, our heroes must fight with the knowledge that their final battle together is just around the corner.

    The official dubbed trailer for the film premiered today on IGN, showcasing the film's dub cast. Many familiar voices will be returning, led by Joshua Seth as Tai and Tom Fahn as Agumon. The pair also host a bonus feature for the home video release, titled "The Final Evolution: Remembering 20 Years of Digimon Adventure with Joshua Seth and Tom Fahn."
