Hi, everyone! Happy Labor Day!
I have two new articles up for this holiday weekend:
As part of Kate Berlant Month, I recently interviewed my best friend Jen about her experience seeing Kate last October with me. You can read about it here.
I've also begun copying over some of my old Bo Burnham Historian Tumblr posts to my website. The first one, the best music videos online for The Inside Outtakes, is up here and includes videos by indivoidual, Isabel, Davy, Payton Justice, and even some fantastic Chicken animatics! 🐔
Finally, I plan to post another one about the most misheard lyrics from Inside Deluxe with their proper lines screenshot from the official lyric book. That should be up by this evening and, yes, I will be verifying the chorus for All Eyes On Me! Haha
Here it is, plus I've added my unboxing video heh
Anyway, hope you all are doing well in this heat wave (it's 93 out where I live), and keep it here for more comedy fun! ✌🏼🐔

Anatomy of a Fall Live Read
Courtesy of Film Independent
Justine Triet's crime-thriller Anatomy of a Fall has been nominated for five Oscars: Best Picture, Directing, Actress in a Leading Role (Sandra Hüller), Best Original Screenplay (Justine Triet, Arthur Harari) and Film Editing (Laurent Sénéchal).
But before the Academy Awards are handed out next month, the script gets a Film Independent Live Read treatment at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills this week.
Triet herself leads the live read-through performance of the whodunit by a cast that includes Riley Keough (Daisy Jones & The Six), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), Jay Ellis (Top Gun: Maverick), Kate Berlant (Dream Scenario), Danny Ramirez (Top Gun: Maverick), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time) and Olivia Wilde (Babylon).
Anatomy of a Fall focuses on the death of Sandra’s husband who was found by their visually impaired son, Daniel, and their dog, Snoop. Sandra becomes the main suspect. Did he jump? Was he pushed? Is Sandra innocent or a convincing, manipulative liar?
Decide for yourself at this Valentine's Day Live Read. Sounds like a good time, whether you bring a date...your ex...a friend...or a frenemy.
Film Independent: Live Read Anatomy of a Fall Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts 9390 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Beverly Hills Tickets: $30 for Film Independent members; $40 for nonmembers

Madonna Is Going on Tour With Bob the Drag Queen For four decades, Madonna has given us countless hits, game-changing music videos, fashion statement after fashion statement, some objectively odd advice and plenty of show-stopping moments worthy of the title "Queen of Pop."It feels like we're well due for a proper Madonna retrospective — and what better way to do so than with a world tour?To commemorate the 40th anniversary of her music career, Madonna has announced that she will emark on a career-spanning Celebration tour beginning this summer. Spanning 35 cities across North America and Europe, the world tour is set to kick off in July and hit up every major city stadium from Vancouver to Amsterdam. Madonna, who may or may not have come out as gay in a TikTok a few months ago, will be joined by Bob the Drag Queen as an opener across all dates.Related | Madonna Is the Wildest Party FavorAs an homage to her 1991Truth or Dare documentary, the tour announcement arrives alongside a Nuno Xico–directed visual that sees Madonna host an all-star dinner party with a sexual twist. From Amy Schumer being asked to demonstrate how she eats her husband's ass (spoiler alert: she doesn't) to Diplo dipping his balls in his margarita and Madonna slipping Jack Black the tongue, the announcement video has that same level of semi-deranged energy a party gets as it works its way into the early hours of the morning and everyone's had a few drinks (albeit with celebrity cameos from Eric Andre, Lil' Wayne, Kate Berlant, Larry Owens, Meg Stalter, Judd Apatow and more). Eventually, the game of innuendo-riddled Truth Or Dare comes back around to Madge herself, with Schumer daring her to revisit her entire discography in a new world tour. Though it's a Herculean undertaking, Madonna is naturally up for the challenge.“I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for,” Madonna said in a statement. In addition to the tour, Warner Music Group has announced plans to “revisit the groundbreaking music that made [Madonna] an international icon," including “expansive deluxe editions for many of her landmark albums” and “unique releases for special events.” The first of these projects is a new remix album, Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones, set to arrive this August. How Effective Are Podcast Ads & Sponsorships? Ask Mattress Firm & iHeartPodcasts
Study after study shows that podcast ads are highly effective at purchase completion rates. In effect, podcast ads translate into increased sales. Compare such effectiveness to the data analysis wasteland of TV advertising, where connecting TV ads to increased sales has a crystal ball quality to such conclusions.
Podcast ads are effective for several reasons. First, podcast audiences are often niche and restricted in scope. After all, a podcast about nutrition has a built-in audience when advertisers sell healthy food or supplements. Second, the intimacy of the medium enables a stronger bond than the "one-size-fits-all" approach to TV and radio ads. Third, podcast hosts establish a bond with listeners that translates into greater transactional connection when host-read ads are used.
So it was not a surprise when iHeartPodcasts announced that it drove a 45 percent lift in incremental sales for Mattress Firm’s Brick-And-Mortar Stores as measured by Affinity Solutions, which is a leading consumer purchase insights company.
This sales leap is connected to iHeart's Chasing Sleep podcast.
Before we investigate that advertising victory, let's provide some historical perspective.
Mattress Firm has embraced the streaming audio format to provide mattress-adjacent content, such as tips on how to get a good night’s sleep. The company first collaborated with Vox Creative, the branded content studio started by digital publisher Vox Media, to launch the Are You Sleeping? podcast in April 2022.
“The brand was looking to build a community on audio, and they really wanted to reach the rest-obsessed and sleep sufferers,” Annu Subramanian, executive producer of branded audio at Vox Media, told Marketing Dive. “They wanted to showcase unique stories to understand why sleep matters, and connect with this audience of people [who] are really starving to sleep better.”
Mattress Firm’s podcast consisted of six episodes that profile the sleep experiences of consumers and four interstitial segments featuring answers to listener questions. Comedian Kate Berlant hosted the series, which also includes commentary from experts like psychologist Shelby Harris, a specialist in behavioral sleep medicine.
In September 2022, Mattress Firm also partnered with iHeart Podcasts to develop a show called Chasing Sleep. The show's first season ran until November 2022, and the second season started this May with an episode called "Sleep And Love."
Interestingly, season one of Chasing Sleep featured Anahad O'Connor of the Washington Post. The tone of season one was reminiscent of the Vox podcast Are You Sleeping? with Kate Berlant.
Then, in season two of Chasing Sleep, two new hosts were introduced -- Katie Lowes and Adam Shapiro, who are a married couple. The tone of the podcast changed appreciably to a more lighthearted, randier vibe, with the first episode discussing post-orgasmic sleep routines and activities.
The Chasing Sleep podcast incorporated key brand messaging throughout, complemented with ad placements across the iHeartPodcasts network. iHeartMedia partnered with Affinity Solutions to measure sales outcomes over a three-month campaign period that was based on this custom audio content.
Mattress Firm’s investments in iHeartPodcasts lead to a 45 percent lift in incremental sales and achieved a 4X incremental return on ad spend (ROAS). The custom measurement study between iHeartMedia, Mattress Firm and Affinity confirmed, with a high level of confidence, the connectivity of podcast advertising to in-store sales. There is proof in the ability of podcasts to move the needle for brands, beyond online transactions.
“Over 100 million Americans listen to podcasts a month with 80 million Americans listening weekly, which is clear evidence this ‘emerging medium’ has now become a permanent, new part of all of our media consumption - giving brands access to new and engaging audiences,” said Brian Kaminsky, Chief Data Officer for iHeartMedia. “By partnering with Affinity to measure the impact of Mattress Firm’s digital audio advertising, particularly on their bottom line, we were able to demonstrate the power of the brand’s partnership with iHeart to drive sales and strong ROI. We also gained insights to optimize campaign performance that we are already applying.”
“Podcasts are the perfect medium for combining Mattress Firm’s passion for sleep with the power of storytelling,” said Sam Bennett, SVP of Marketing at Mattress Firm. “The results of this study unequivocally revealed that an investment in branded content yields strong results. As we continue to invest in content, we remain focused on harnessing the power of podcasts to empower, educate, and inspire our valued audience – while simultaneously driving business results.”
“It’s all about the power of proof. Brands like Mattress Firm partner with companies like iHeartMedia with the expectation of strong ROI,” said Damian Garbaccio, Chief Business & Marketing Officer for Affinity Solutions. “Until now, success was based on proxy metrics like reach, frequency, and foot traffic. By using purchase data like Affinity’s, we can finally go beyond proxies to provide definitive proof of “outcomes” from paid media – purchases.”
Now, if you think the Mattress Firm / iHeart experience is a "one-off" experience, let's talk about Evergreen Podcasts.
This podcast network produces shows such as Blind Rage, Crime Capsule, and The Bouquet Toss.
This week, Evergreen Podcasts announced that it has partnered with Regal Cinemas to sponsor two of its podcasts that are focused on movies. Evergreen has teamed up with the movie theater chain for an ad sponsorship deal on two podcasts -- Sleepover Cinema and Next Best Picture.
The ads will promote the Regal Unlimited subscription package on Sleepover Cinema, which is hosted by Hannah and Audrey of Too Pink Production and revisits iconic films from the '80s and '90s.
Next Best Picture is hosted by Matt Neglia, covering the latest movie news and highlighting the newest releases.
"There are so many ways that movies and podcasts can work together to ignite the passion and fandom of movie lovers across America," said Kelly Hawkins, VP of Loyalty at Regal. "Our goal is to continue to build on our community of loyal movie lovers by connecting movie memories to moments that reach beyond the big screen to enhance their experiences."
"Regal's reputation in the film industry aligns seamlessly with Evergreen Podcasts' focus on delivering high-quality, engaging entertainment," said Luke Gibbons, Business Development Manager at Evergreen Podcasts. "This partnership provides powerful synergy between our two companies, where Regal's customer-focused Unlimited program meets the boundless storytelling of Evergreen Podcasts."
This trend of companies sponsoring podcasts has been building and will continue to do so as companies witness the effectiveness of podcast sponsorship and ads on their brand image and sales.
Stay tuned.

With the news about the second run of Kate starting next month and going into February 2023, I wanted to preserve Bo's thoughts on Kate Berlant prior to their creative partnership this year.
In particular, I have captured all of his tweets from 2018 when he was discussing Kate's genius comedy with Jason Zinoman of the New York Times and Jacqueline Novak (Kate's co-host on POOG).
Bo even calls Kate the "Millennial Lenny Bruce" and ends his tweetstorm with a snowman (solving the mystery of that emoji's meaning in "Sexting")!
Hope you enjoy the conversation, and stay tuned for more! ✌🏼

Good morning, everyone! 🌞
I'm feeling really excited about the theme this month on my website: KATE BERLANT! 💗
I met Kate in person in February after writing about her last year, and she is SO kind and friendly. Just a complete gem!
But not enough people know about her comedic genius!
Maybe you've seen her before but not known her name? She is the Garfield lady in I Think You Should Leave AND the kooky talent agent in The Other Two for starters.
However, she doesn't receive the same accolades as her peers like her frequent collaborator Bo Burnham and Jerrod Carmichael (who were both EPs on her comedy special along with The Bear's Chris Storer).
Seriously, how was Cinnamon in the Wind not nominated for an Emmy?! Complete nonsense.
This month, she is performing her PHENOMENAL one-woman play Kate in London. For any British readers, I urge you to get tickets if you can—it's an incredible immersive experience!
Anyway, here are the upcoming articles on my site about Kate for the month of September:
10 fun facts about Kate Berlant
A Kate Berlant primer (you might think you don't know her, but if you like comedies, TRUST ME...you've seen Kate haha)
Audience interviews for her NYC shows (similar to what I did for Rothaniel)
A Kate Berlant article a day
And just for fun—every Kate sticker or image I had noticed in my 3 times attending the show
I hope you enjoy this month's content (Kate certainly deserves all the praise and recognition), and keep it here for more comedy fun! ✌🏼🐔

Link Tank: Funniest I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson Sketches to Watch
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Netflix’s I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson is one of the funniest sketch comedy shows out there. Here are its funniest twelve sketches to check out.
“Without question, ITYSL is still Netflix’s most successful sketch comedy series to date, and it gives both up-and-coming talent (Patti Harrison, Conner O’Malley , Kate Berlant, Brandon Wardell, Sam Richardson, etc.) and recognizable faces (Vanessa Bayer, Cecily Strong, Fred Willard, Andy Samberg, Steven Yeun, Tim Heidecker, etc.) a platform to flex their most deranged comedic muscles.”
Read more at Thrillist.
One-hit wonders in popular music rarely get the appreciation they’re due. Today, let’s celebrate some of the most memorable ones.
“There’s nothing nobler in popular music than being a one-hit wonder. Let the Madonnas, Drakes, and Mariah Careys of the world fill their homes with platinum plaques. Only those artists who manage to crack the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 exactly once know the true meaning of pop music, an ephemeral art form rooted in fads and fleeting pleasures.”

To highlight another example of the importance of down ballot voting, pit bulls will no longer be banned in Denver, Colorado come January of 2021.
“In a reminder of the importance of down ballots, Ballot Measure 2J was passed by 64% of the vote on Tuesday, and the legislation will begin the start of a permitting system for pit bulls and includes the breeds American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. It goes into effect in January according to Colorado Politics.”

The coronavirus does not discriminate between the young and the old. Here are how some previously infected young people are coping with lingering symptoms.
“When the novel coronavirus first emerged, health experts were stunned by how fast it could damage the lungs. Now, as we continue to live with the virus, we’re learning how it also can attack the heart, GI tract, liver, kidneys, and even steal our senses of smell and taste. While older people are hit hardest, young and healthy adults can also suffer lingering effects, and their experiences reveal key lessons about life after Covid-19.”

The upcoming Lego Star Wars Holiday Special is a joy to behold in these dark times. Check out its newest trailer.
“Disney and Lucasfilm have released the first full trailer for the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special, streaming later this month on Disney+. Set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, the episode will see Finn, Rey, Poe, Rose, and the rest of the galaxy come together to celebrate a hard-won Life Day after their defeat of the Final Order.”
Read more at Gizmodo.
Portland, Maine voters have decidedly banned facial-recognition technology for at least five years.
“Just months after Portland, Oregon, passed a strict ban on facial-recognition technology, the East Coast Portland has followed suit. Voters in Portland, Maine, this week passed a ballot initiative that temporarily bans the public use of facial-recognition technology by law enforcement and other government officials, reports the Bangor Daily News.”

It’s rare these days that you get to see someone like the amazing James Adomian (Our Cartoon President, Trump vs. Bernie, Low Hangin’ Fruit, Comedy Bang! Bang!, Future-Worm) headline in town. Yet, your chance will be coming very soon this month as Adomian will be taking over The Satellite LA in Silverlake with help from Kate Berlant, Rojo Perez, and Zach Noe Towers.
So, we highly recommend that you go get your tickets ASAP here.

Good morning, everyone! 🌞
As part of Kate Berlant Month, I've been talking to audience members who've attended at least one of the NYC Kate performances.
Today's newest interview is with @nicoleanell who went to two shows and offered some really thoughtful insights into the play, Kate's brilliant acting, and the show's relationship to Bo Burnham's previous works.
As a warning once again, these interviews have SPOILERS, so don't read them if you have tickets to her London show and want to be surprised! 😉
I've also been collecting various reviews of the London show (going on from now until the end of the month)—here are the links if you're interested:
The Guardian
TimeOut
Chortle
The Guardian again (apparently Florence Pugh and Phoebe Bridgers were in attendance opening night—no surprise that Bo's girlfriend was there lol)
The Art's Desk
Metro UK
Finally, I plan to have up a Kate Berlant article a day by this weekend. It will include some of her earliest interviews as well as her ones from last year when she was promoting so many projects at the same time (A League of Their Own, Don't Worry Darling, Cinnamon in the Wind, Would It Kill You To Laugh?, AND Kate).
I hope you enjoy all of the Kate content, and keep it here for more comedy fun! ✌🏼🐔
