if you've ever asked yourself:
"hey I wonder what Eminem's Lose Yourself would sound like sung by an Australian country artist with a banjo"
youtube
the answer is:
Fucking Incredible
I have been listening to this on repeat for weeks, this is a woman decades into her career who fought tooth and nail for her place in the music industry, she is spitting these lyrics with real melancholy and rage
It's raw, it's haunting, and at the 4:20 mark the band kicks in and goes fucking hard
Even if you don't like Eminem's music, even if you don't like country music, give it a shot, even if just for the experience of seeing someone take on a rap song with a fucking banjo
#kasey chambers#lose yourself#music#as an Australian it is my moral obligation to share this insane performance#with as many people as possible#Youtube

This is the song getting me through at the moment. If you’ve got a spare eight minutes, please give it a listen. This is what it looks like to see a woman put her whole soul at your feet when she sings.
I’ve had it on repeat play for days. It’s available on her Spotify and Apple iTunes. It honestly deserves more recognition than than the dozens of voice coaches on YouTube raving about how amazing she is.
Go on the journey with her from despair to righteous fury.
I hope it helps you stagger back to your feet, ready to face another day. Small steps, one day at a time.
I’m so grateful to have this small safe space here on Tumblr. Let’s keep creating and supporting one another.

Kasey Chambers - Lose Yourself (Eminem Cover) LIVE @ Civic Theatre, Newc... Una delle migliori cover che abbia mai sentito. L’hip hop tuffato nel dark country e riverniciato di heavy blues. Un cazzo di capolavoro.

15. And 13. To the askgame
13. DREAMS - Have you ever written fanfiction?
YES! But not a lot. The two fanfics currently posted on my Ao3 are pretty much the extent of my fanfic output, plus one White Collar fic I wrote years ago without actually admitting to myself it was fanfic. (I'd post it if I could find it; it wasn't actually that bad and it was whumpy, too!)
I have some ideas for more, including a Friday Night Lights prison-related Tim/Julie fic that could probably just as easily work as original fiction if I made some changes. For now, it's very much on the back burner, though.
Incidentally, I read a ton more of it than I write, including in fandoms I know nothing about. I don't discriminate as long as it has tropes I like.
15. ENERGY - What song inspires you most?
I generally find it impossible to name the "most" anything when it comes to music. But here's one I love (especially for us writers, if you pay attention to the lyrics):

Happy Nice Ask Day!
If you were a pro baseball player, what would your walk up song be?
Hello! What an excellent question this is.
Since 95% of what I knew about walk-up songs before today came from achoo_gesundheit’s delightful fic, I had to research a little. So I’m going by the advice outlined here at the Purple Row.
I think “Cry Like a Baby” by Kasey Chambers.
youtube
Firstly, I like that it mentions crying when even I know there’s no crying in baseball.
Secondly, I like the distinctive opening, which that article says is important.
Thirdly, I don’t think most people know it, so it won’t seem overused.
Fourthly, these lyrics! I was going to just excerpt some, but I kept ending up quoting every other line, so here they all are:
Well I never lived through the great depression Sometimes I feel as though I did I don't have answers for every single question But that's OK 'cause I'm just a kid Well I've seen pictures of my mother When she looked exactly like me And I've seen all my friends running for cover Running from something they can't see And it's not easy to get a handle on my life But I have tried it time and time again But I still cry just like a baby And I answer back to feel a little free And I still fly even though I'm gonna fall But I'm too far gone to let it get to me I'm not much like my generation Their music only hurts my ears And I don't hide my pain to save my reputation It's too hard to keep up with these years And it's not easy to make a habit disappear But I have tried it time and time again
I am not a kid, but you know, most of the rest of it sounds like me.
Thanks for asking!
What is nice ask day?

January 9th Playlist

We have been sick as dogs this week after returning from a weekend in NYC, full of friends, great food and theatre! Nevertheless we pulled it together and created an episode full of newish stuff courtesy of our buddies at Uncut Magazine and their fab curated CD's. Side A contains several tracks from records released in 2024, including an artist we got to see perform live and one we were supposed to but missed. On Side B we get a few new tracks from 2025 releases and one outrageous take on a Hip Hop classic from Kasey Chambers. Good stuff for frigid winter night.
Side A Howling at the Moon-Hank Williams Freeze-Richard Thompson That's How I'm Feeling-Jack White Wild God-Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds Kravitz-Mabi Fratti Night Horns (edit)-Sarah Davachi
Side B Mind Rocker pt. 1-Brown Spirits Lion Rumpus-Mogwai She Moves Through the Fayre-Bridget Hayden & the Attractions Lighthouse-Anna P Savage Up and Down-Joshua Broadside Lose Yourself (Live)-Kasey Chambers
UPDATE: An archived recording of this program is now available here.

Rattlin' Bones
Smoke don’t rise Fuel don’t burn Sun don’t shine no more Late one night, sorrow come round Scratching at my door But I cut my hands And break my back Draggin’ this bag of stones Till they bury me down, beneath the ground With the dust and rattlin’ bones [Shane] Left my home and left my love [Kasey] Caught on a rusty nail [Shane] Devil rose up, heavy with gold [Kasey] My soul’s not…
