THE HOT MEDIEVAL & FANTASY MEN MELEE
FIRST ROUND: 16th Tilt
King Arthur Pendragon, First Knight (1995) VS. Èomer, Son of Èomund, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003)
Propaganda
King Arthur Pendragon, First Knight (1995) Portrayed by: Sean Connery Defeated Opponents: - Robin Hood [Sean Connery], Robin & Marian (1976)
“A lot of my text propaganda for Sean Connery in First Knight might boil down to: why is Guinevere looking at Richard Gere!Lancelot when her husband is RIGHT THERE looking like THAT? And looking at HER like that? And he makes her laugh! And he holds her like she's the most precious thing in the world! And he trusts her political and administrative capabilities (so sexy of him)! A lesser man might look silly waiting for a procession to reach him past standing stones and torches. Not he. Is this movie good? no. Do scenes from it live in my head rent-free? Yes. Sean Connery, just a force field of gravitas and charisma in this thing, as King Arthur ought to be. Also have I mentioned the warmth in his eyes when he looks at her? Not over it.”
Èomer, Son of Èomund, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003) Portrayed by: Karl Urban Defeated Opponents: - Gimli [John Rhys Davies], The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003)
“He was always one of my favorite characters from the books and in the movie he is portrayed just as well. He cares for his sister and physically assaults Gríma Wormtongue. Both things are hot. Also, he has to-kill-for eyebrows and a fierceness about him. And I like his voice ;-)”

1900s futurism
I'm on tour with my new, nationally bestselling novel The Bezzle! Catch me in TUCSON (Mar 9-10), then SAN FRANCISCO (Mar 13), Anaheim, and more!
I'm profoundly skeptical of the idea that the future can be predicted, and doubly skeptical that sf writers are any kind of prophet. The former grotesque fatalism (if the future can be predicted, then what we do doesn't matter); the latter is tragicomic hubris.
If you'd like an essay-formatted version of this thread to read or share, here's a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/03/07/the-gernsback-continuum/#wheres-my-jetpack
That said, few people have been more consistently useful in understanding and anticipating (and yes, building) the future than my friend and colleague Karl Schroeder, whom I've known since I was 16 years old. Karl was the first person I heard say the world "internet." Also: "fractal," "World Wide Web," "ftp," and numerous other touchstones of the future just over the horizon.
Karl is, in fact, a futurist ("foresight consultant") who approaches the work with the same shrewd insight, wild imagination and humility that he brings to his fiction. In a new essay written with both his futurist and sf writer hats on, he nails down the toxic shadow cast by the 20th century sf, or, as he calls it, "The Science Fiction of the 1900s":
https://kschroeder.substack.com/p/the-science-fiction-of-the-1900s
Karl starts by describing the odd "double vision" of the future of the 1900s. On the one hand, many of us (myself included) were convinced that nuclear armageddon was inevitable. Unlike the unhinged architects of the nuclear arms-race, realists understood that a nuclear war would effectively end the future. As Einstein put it, "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."
But the flipside of that certainty that the future would end with the first nuclear strike was the belief that if we could just somehow walk the tightrope over the chasm of nuclear holocaust, we'd emerge in a future worth looking forward to: "a new era of peace and prosperity for all."
Contrast that with the existential dread of today's polycrisis: environmental collapse and political decay up to and including fascism. These aren't the binary proposition of nuclear annihilation vs Utopia – rather, they're a continuum of worse-and-better outcomes of every description. As Karl writes: "It’s not that simple. Our future now is an exhausting spectrum of scenarios, each with its own promise, and its own problems."
For Karl, we have entered a new epoch, but we've dragged in the long-expired way of imagining (and hence creating and navigating) the future with us. What makes this a new epoch? For Karl, it's the kind of future on our horizon. He cites Charles C Mann’s 1491, a superb history of the Americas before Columbus:
https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/107178/1491-second-edition-by-charles-c-mann/9781400032051/readers-guide/
1491 radically reframes "the patchwork of propaganda and inference" that makes up the received narrative of the so-called "New World." It describes a land of flourishing cities, art, science and culture "in the Americas while Rome was just getting its act together." Contact with colonizing Europeans was a disaster for First Nations people, who call this period "The Invasion." It was an epochal break.
Futurism is an inextricably historical discipline. The willingness of some settler-colonialists states to consider this epochal break forces us to reframe our literal place in history, the story of the land under our feet. At its best, this futuro-historical work can begin the long work of reconciliation, as with the Canadian government's promise of $23b in reparations for the First Nations people who were kidnapped as children and sent to murderous "residential schools" before, during and after the Sixties Scoop.
The sf of the 1900s is no longer fit for purpose, if it ever was. It's a literature that was steered by open fascists like John W Campbell, who explicitly saw the literature as a means of inculcating a societal narrative of the triumph of white, corporate technocracy over all other forms of government:
https://locusmag.com/2019/11/cory-doctorow-jeannette-ng-was-right-john-w-campbell-was-a-fascist/
Karl isn't the first sf writer to try to overturn this orthodoxy – indeed, it was continuously challenged by radicals within the field, as with the New Wave, personified by the likes of Samuel Delany and Judith Merril (who both mentored and introduced Karl and me):
https://pluralistic.net/2020/08/13/better-to-have-loved/#neofuturians
The cyberpunks took a good hard run at it, too. For plenty of writers (including me), Bruce Sterling and William Gibson's 1981 story "The Gernsback Continuum" was a wake-up call:
http://writing2.richmond.edu/jessid/eng216/gernsback.pdf
Not for nothing, William Gibson has long insisted that his 1984 classic Neuromancer should be read as utopian: after all, it depicts a future in which the inevitable nuclear war only reduces a few cities to radioactive ash, sparing the rest of the planet.
Bruce Sterling once paid me the supreme compliment of describing a 2003 story I wrote about the ways that algorithms will enshittify self-driving cars as "making everybody else in the business look like they live in a dark basement growing on the mulch from old STAR TREK scripts":
https://craphound.com/stories/2005/10/12/human-readable/
Schroeder – along with today's new radical sf writer cohort – wants to fashion a fictional futurism that is fit for this world and its crisis: "in our modern technological society, science fiction tells us what to spend our time and money on." The fact that our mediocre billionaires are mired in the sf of the 1900s means that we're getting some decidedly old-fashioned futures.
For Karl, Musk is a poster-child for this profoundly conservative, backwards-looking vision: "He’s fighting the intellectual battles of the last century, a 1900s hero dropped into the 2000s with an unlimited budget to reshape the future to fit the era he’s from." Musk's obsessions – "Space flight. Settling Mars. Cyberpunk-style brain-computer interfaces. Artificial Intelligence. Self-driving electric cars. Humanoid robots." – are 1900s science fiction.
Ironically, much of this fiction labels itself "hard sf," despite the fact that interstellar travel is utter fantasy – as is mass-scale, near-term interplanetary civilization:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/01/09/astrobezzle/#send-robots-instead
Karl wants "a future for the 2000s." He points to some efforts to make this happen, like Neal Stephenson's Hieroglyph anthology, edited by Ed Finn and Kathryn Cramer:
https://www.harpercollins.com/products/hieroglyph-ed-finnkathryn-cramer
The "Hieroglyph" is Stephenson's shorthand for a recognizable, tangible, meme-able gizmo or other touchstone for a 2000s-era vision of the future – a replacement for jetpacks and flying cars. Karl's story for the anthology, "Degrees of Freedom," focuses on an abstraction (governance: "the single most important thing humanity can focus its creative energies on right now"), and by Karl's own admission, it's not quite the hieroglyph Stephenson was looking for.
But Karl did come up with a hieroglyph in a later work, the "deodands" of 2019's Stealing Worlds – a software agent "that believes it is some natural system, such as a river or forest, and acts in its own self-interest, that being the preservation and thriving of that natural system":
https://memex.craphound.com/2019/06/18/karl-schroeders-stealing-worlds-visionary-science-fiction-of-a-way-through-the-climate-and-inequality-crises/
(My own contribution to Hieroglyph was very gadget heavy – "The Man Who Sold the Moon," about autonomous lunar 3D printers. It won the Sturgeon Award):
https://memex.craphound.com/2015/05/22/the-man-who-sold-the-moon/
I've been impressed with Karl since the day I met him in 1987. There's no one whose thoughts on the future I'm more interested in hearing. I don't think that's a coincidence, either: Karl is an autodidact who was raised by a Mennonite TV repairman – the first TV repair shop in the Canadian prairies. If you want to understand the future, try being raised by someone who takes that kind of deliberate approach to which technology to adopt, and how.

Headcanons I shared on twt that I’d like to share here ☺️ (from 2023 to now):
Margo’s a 3D digital artist, Miles is more traditional, & Hobie likes to tailor his own clothes. They have days where they all occupied a single room and work silently together with music/a movie in the background.
Broke: Jefferson doesn’t like Hobie cuz his laces/punk, Woke: Jefferson likes Hobie cause he reminds him of Aaron.
Jefferson knows what it’s like to live in a tough environment. Does he approve of the things Aaron & Hobie’s done? No. Does he understand it? Yes! And he’ll be damned if he lets Hobie handled it on his own now that he knows about him 😤
And if I said Rio AND Jeff ask about Hobie all the time to Miles?? And if I said they’d tell him to invite him to the rooftop cookouts hM?? And if I said Rio & Jeff were the type of parents to always including any form of family gatherings with Hobie in mind, HMM?!
If Aaron was still alive, he would have loved Hobie.
Manifests in your mind Karl throwing Hobie over his shoulders and spinning him around really fast as they laugh.
Hobie’s the type to hold up & play music from a boombox outside Miles window to serenade him at 3 am. Jefferson from his window telling him to go home, Hobie cranks the boombox louder.
CyberPunkFlower hc: Margo & Hobie both being nervous to meet Miles parents and get surprised when Rio & Jefferson hug them at the front door (Especially from Jefferson who held both of them tightly in his hug) Miles had talked so fondly about his partners to his parents. He even explained how they both helped him escape the SS. Rio & Jefferson loved them before they even walked through their door.
CyberPunkFlower thought: Margo & Hobie being overwhelmed with how opening loving & supporting Miles’ parents are to them. They’ve both had a one to one moment with Rio/Jefferson that solidified that feeling of “You’re always welcomed in our home”. Margo being quick to accept their affection/attention vs Hobie being standoffish cuz he’s not used to this kind of positive adult/parental presents. Over time & some patience he’ll be accepting/used to it.
My singing voice hc for Hobie is Bakar (listen to his song Dracula 🎤👀)
PunkFlower/Morales Family thought: Hobie, bruised/roughed up from a battle, hoppin’ in to Miles universes to relax with him only to realize: 1. He’s not home & 2. Rio’s the only one home. Cut to Rio hovering over to Hobie & being worried about his injuries. Rio tends to his wounds (even after Hobie explains his quick healing). As Rio’s wrapping him up she talks about how much her son speaks so fondly about Hobie. Tell him embarrassing stories about her boy. Fun little conversations that will come back and haunt Miles lol.
GoldenPunkFlowerByte thoughts: Pavitr trying to help Rio in the kitchen, Miles preventing Hobie from stealing bites out of the pots, Margo talking with Jefferson and playing with Billie.
Hobie’s spiderband are the type to give each other tattoos. They give each other a heart tattoo 💙🩷💜💚💛❤️
Hobie’s the type to bring flowers for Rio & Jefferson when he’s taking Miles out on a date.
GoldenPunkFlowerByte: Pavitr, despite his size, is always the big spoon (He will jump if he has to hold Miles & Hobie) My guy loves to bury his face in his partners shoulders. He loves playing with the loose strands of Margo’s hair while she’s coding.
I really like the idea of not only Miles’ family meeting Hobie but also the Morales meeting Hobie’s SpiderBand cuz that’s his family. He grew up homeless & his band means the world to him. Rio & Jefferson would love this goofy bunch of misfits.
Hobie making Rio a dimensional phone cuz she “wanted to call and check up on you & your friends, Flaquito!”
To end it off: Before anyone comes here and says “Hobie’s an adult” pleases read these =
Tho Hobie does not have a confirmed age, he's been described most times as a teenager from 16-17 year old (I see him as 16)

Sinister System terminology, differences in fronting vs shifts
Some people seemed interested in our internal experience, so I've written up a little bit of a guide to help it make sense.
system member: a distinct person/soul who is one of many sharing this body.
kintype: the identity of a soul during a particular lifetime experience.
kin source: the media in which a kin life/kintype is reflected.
kin shift: a particular system member experiencing a greater psychological, emotional, and/or spiritual state where they are embodying a particular kintype in the present moment. A sort of psychological/emotional/spiritual regression to or manifestation of a specific kintype's traits and experiences.
collective shift: when several different system members are experiencing a kin shift to their various personal identities during the same source lifetime.
fronting/taking the front/switching: A particular system member takes control of the body. A fronting member experiences the direct sensory input from the body, has a distinct internal monologue which is 'louder' than the internal thoughts of members who are not fronting, has primary control over the actions and reactions of the body.
Sinister system:
Has roughly 25 distinct system members
Each system member has around 19 kintypes in addition to their overall personal singular identity.
A system member may be experiencing a particular kin shift at any given time. Often multiple system members are in a collective shift.
Let's walk through some abbreviated examples.
Some sinister system members are
😼🔪 (Jas)
🌀😎 (Akechi)
🔍⚔️ (Kirigiri)
Each of these system members shares the same kin sources. They experienced several lifetimes in which they were born and interacted with separate identities in the same world.
Some of their kin sources are: Homestuck, Danganronpa, Resident Evil, and Great Ace Attorney.
That means that each distinct system member has a kintype that aligns with each source.
😼🔪 Jas' kintypes are: Vriska Serket (Homestuck), Toko Fukawa (Danganronpa), Karl Heisenberg (Resident Evil) and Yuujin Mikotoba (Great Ace Attorney)
🌀😎 (Akechi)'s kintypes are: Cronus Ampora (Homestuck), Nagito Komaeda (Danganronpa), Albert Wesker (Resident Evil), and Kazuma Asogi (Great Ace Attorney)
🔍⚔️ (Kirigiri)'s kintypes are: Dave Strider (Homestuck), Kyoko Kirigiri (Danganronpa), Tyler Howard (Resident Evil), and Barok Van Zieks (Great Ace Attorney).
When 🔍⚔️ (Kirigiri) is fronting, that means that 🔍⚔️ is the person primarily processing data from the body's senses, making decisions, acting using the body, and experiencing a loud inner monologue.
When 🔍⚔️ (Kirigiri) is fronting, 🔍⚔️ is still Dave Strider, Kyoko Kirigiri, Tyler Howard, and Barok Van Zieks all at once, because these are all lives that 🔍⚔️ has experienced. He has access to the emotions and memories relevant to all of his kintypes, and they all motivate him to a greater or lesser degree.
However, if/when 🔍⚔️ is experiencing a particular kin shift, then the experiences, emotions and memories relevant to that particular shift will be dominate over his other experiences while he's experiencing the shift.
So for example, in a Homestuck kin shift 🔍⚔️ will act more like Dave Strider, because his thoughts, memories, emotions and preferences will be more closely aligned with who he was during that time, and the experience of his other lives will still be present, but have less priority over his actions and thoughts. His experience as Dave will have more immediate relevance to whatever he's doing, and will be experienced more heavily and as if it were more current than his other lives.
If the system is in a collective Homestuck shift, then it means that 🔍⚔️is in a Dave shift, 🌀😎 is in a Cronus shift, and 😼🔪 is in a Vriska shift, all at the same time. The lifetime of Homestuck is most immediately relevant to the entire system if we're experiencing a collective Homestuck shift.
However, not everyone is always in a collective shift. There are times where 🔍⚔️ is in a Dave/Homestuck shift, but 😼🔪 is in a Toko/Danganronpa shift, etc.
We are open to answering any questions, clarifying or otherwise that people might have about our experiences.

In 2021 the limited series on the career of designer Halston (Roy Halston Frowick, portrayed by Ewan McGregor) waltzed down Netflix's catwalk. Now we have at least three series chronicling the lives and careers of designers.
Currently on Disney+ in Europe is the exquisite CRISTÓBAL BALENCIAGA centering on, guess who? Spanish designer Cristobal Balenciaga, starring Alberto San Juan (Reyes De La Noche) as Balenciaga.
It's an interesting story about this enigmatic fashion genius that shows his steadfastness in his devotion to fashion to the sacrifice, some may say, of ethics due to the fact that while other fashion houses were shut down during Germany's occupation of some parts of France, he readily made clothes for the significant others of German soldiers.
The series also shines a light on Balenciaga's relationship with his creative partner and love-of-his-life Wladzio d'Attainville (played by Thomas Coumans).
Among the designers who appear or are name-checked in CRISTÓBAL BALENCIAGA is Christian Dior and Coco Chanel. These two fashion legends will appear in AppleTV+'s upcoming mini-series THE NEW LOOK with Ben Mendelsohn as Dior and Juliette Binoche as Coco Chanel and takes place during Germany's occupation of France.
youtube
THE NEW LOOK will feature covers of classics by Florence + and The Machine, Lana del Rey, The 1975, Perfume Genius and more.
Sometimes this year (at least I hope this year) will be KAISER KARL (apparently the title may be changed) starring Daniel Brühl as Kunty Karl Lagerfeld
centering on him as a 38-year old trying to break into the Parisian world of high fashion where he finds himself in competition with he finds himself in competition with French fashion giants like Yves Saint Laurent.
The only Yves Saint Laurent depiction worth a damn. RIP beautiful Gaspard Ulliel
What is fashion if there's no one to wear it? For example, the high society ladies that will be depicted in the upcoming installment of FX's FEUD: CAPOTE VS. THE SWANS.
Hopefully this series will do justice to the mythos behind writer Truman Capote's nuclear fall out with the so-called Swans - a moniker Capote gave the socialites whose company he kept and whose secrets he didn't.
Playing Capote is Tom Hollander
Naomi Watts as Babe Paley, wife of CBS founder William S. Paley (which the annual PaleyFest is named after), Diane Lane as Slim Keith, ex-wife of famed director Howard Hawks, producer Leland Hayward amongst others; Calista Flockhart as Lee Radziwill, sister of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Demi Moore Ann Woodward who got her place in society by being the wife of a banking heir,
Demi, that looks like a flamingo, not a swan.
Chloe Sevigny as Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali muse C.Z. Guest, Molly Ringwald as JoAnne Carson, ex-wife of late-night talk show host Johnny Carson and the only Swan who remained friends with Capote after his ouster from their social circle.
TBT Elle magazine getting animated with fashion.
Goofy as Kunty Karl Lagerfeld.

Random facts in tidbits about the Dangerous Alpha and Sweet Omega universe and the characters ?
Buddy i can't do tidbits my brain refuses to.
Universe
Instincts work like a second conscience/ animal mind that evolves with age. The communication tend to be pretty simple but vary from person. Ex: Alcina Beta being fully capable of roasting her.
It's actually recommended to exercise/develop this part to be sane emotionally and mentally and to have safe coexistence/community. Ex: the outside world vs the village.
Male omegas and Female alphas have the biggest % that experience body dysmorphia and dysphoria because of the mutation they undergo in the presentation, giving them genitals typically assigned to the other gender, sometimes they will seek surgery even if that means giving up biological children and undergoing an stressful treatment.
Characters
Alpha R is actually very observant, scent is a good way to tell how someone is feeling but normally is hidden under layers of others smells so she learned to avoid fights.
Daniela wanted to be Omega and Bela didn't care at first but after years of hearing how she has all the characteristics of a perfect stereotypical omega she feels a little conflicted.
Cassandra's temper is heavily influenced by the neglect of her instinct.
Karl may be gruffy and hobo looking but is actually a good alpha, in his ruts he travels to the other lords territories to repair whatever they need, grumbling all the way but is done out of love and care. He is just a fucking tsundere.
Miranda is also searching for a cure for Moreau's brutal mutation, she feels a lot of guilt as she implanted more than one cadou to try to cure his illness, initially worked fine then things ended fishy.
Cassandra closes the door in her mind most of the time but she still can hear the screams of her omega. Donna sedate her own she can't hear anything.
Donna just doesn't feel the effects as Cassandra does because she uses her powers to suppress her instincts and Angie as an outlet. the moment she lets go she is extremely emotional, needy and clingy her detached/cold/uninterested behavior vanishes totally.
Want more information? PLEASE ASK I NEED THE FUEL.

Saw some discussions of people "taking down" Karl Polanyi's 1944 The Great Transformation in response to some other articles mentioning it, which is always amusing to me because its a very dead horse to beat. In short, Polanyi was the founder of the "markets-as-modernity" idea, where before the modern era states and economies did not function on supply and demand, but instead on things like gift and reciprocity. It was never a very coherent idea (Supply and demand is an inherent aggregating feature of human society) but direct evidence has compounded with logic to relegate it into the past. His ideas that say ancient Babylon had centralized prices built around temple donations has been set aside in the face of the evidence of incredibly complex exchange economies that ran through Mesopotamia - we even see things like derivative contracts! Because of course you do, financial risk is inherent to economics, so societies will experiment around mitigating it.
There is a perfectly coherent "steelmanned" version of this idea that is quite robust today - markets are always with us and were never invented, but they are also socially constructed and their scope changes based on context, with a large modern expansion. Did the Roman Empire have a market for wages, alongside goods? Yes, of course it did - but that market was quite "distorted" by the mass-scale slavery endemic to the economy. Slave vs free labor economies both have "markets" and function alongside them, but for the actual lived human experience these are night and day systems, and based on deep social institutions, not at all "inherent abstract forces". Lots of societies had differences like this - sometimes ancient governments did try to dictate prices! They failed, but they tried, its a difference.
And more broadly under low-productivity systems most people engaged in subsistence farming, and interacted minimally with trade systems. If most of your economic "units" don't engage in trade, the markets don't matter as much, but over time this changed, and as more and more people "entered" the market that is both a change in itself and created knock-on effects in urbanization, specialization, financial institutions, etc, that is totally fair to describe as a "transformation". Starting in the 18th century its very clear the world began a rapid shift to specialization & wage labor in a way never seen before, its a new society in many ways.
Problem is none of this steelman is anywhere close to what Polanyi was saying. He was definitely claiming that market exchanges and supply and demand price shifting and all that were optional, and could be (and historically were) replaced by gifts or redistribution policies or the like. He is just wrong about this and there is no reason to bother trying to rehabilitate it. Doesn't make him wrong about everything! States definitely also "constructed" markets and put a lot of work into that, for example, a big point of his. But you see the "pre-market era of history" pop up in discourse, journalism, politics, etc from time to time, and as an economic historian its always a groan moment. No one is debating this anymore.

i think the part of A Rape In Cyberspace that caught my attention the most on this read-through a few days ago was the part where they are convening the meeting of the MOO users to discuss what to do about the rapist and he finally shows up and they ask him what the fuck is his problem. and he says it was a social experiment. and the description of the reaction of the crowd is really interesting
“Asshole,” spat Karl Porcupine, “creep.” But the harshest of the MOO’s hostility toward him had already been vented, and the attention he drew now was motivated more, it seemed, by the opportunity to probe the rapist’s mind, to find out what made it tick and if possible how to get it to tick differently. In short, they wanted to know why he’d done it. So they asked him. And Mr. Bungle thought about it. And as eddies of discussion and debate continued to swirl around him, he thought about it some more. And then he said this: “I engaged in a bit of a psychological device that is called thought-polarization, the fact that this is not RL simply added to heighten the affect of the device. It was purely a sequence of events with no consequence on my RL existence.” They might have known. Stilted though its diction was, the gist of the answer was simple, and something many in the room had probably already surmised: Mr. Bungle was a psycho. Not, perhaps, in real life — but then in real life it’s possible for reasonable people to assume, as Bungle clearly did, that what transpires between word-costumed characters within the boundaries of a make-believe world is, if not mere play, then at most some kind of emotional laboratory experiment. Inside the MOO, however, such thinking marked a person as one of two basically subcompetent types. The first was the newbie, in which case the confusion was understandable, since there were few MOOers who had not, upon their first visits as anonymous “guest” characters, mistaken the place for a vast playpen in which they might act out their wildest fantasies without fear of censure. Only with time and the acquisition of a fixed character do players tend to make the critical passage from anonymity to pseudonymity, developing the concern for their character’s reputation that marks the attainment of virtual adulthood. But while Mr. Bungle hadn’t been around as long as most MOOers, he’d been around long enough to leave his newbie status behind, and his delusional statement therefore placed him among the second type: the sociopath. And as there is but small percentage in arguing with a head case, the room’s attention gradually abandoned Mr. Bungle and returned to the discussions that had previously occupied it.
it's the idiot vs villain dichotomy spelled out very clearly, one we still deal with on a daily basis online. poe's law, and before that, hanlon's razor. it stuck out to me a lot this time, im not sure why
edit; i also completely forgot about the twist. i forgot there even was one, but its a doozy
