I love the bitchiness of this playlist by Karl and Rick.
Don’t trust Spotify to get it right you fools. Also: don’t shuffle that shit.

Book 331
Mmm…Skyscraper I Love You: A Typographic Journal of New York
Karl Hyde and John Warwicker
Booth-Clibborn Editions 1997
This is kind of an odd thing. Designed and created by Tomato design collective of London, this “typographic journal of NY” is, I think, an interesting experiment in graphic design and typography. Frankly, I’m not so sure how successful it is, but I admire the attempt. Karl Hyde, co-founder of Tomato, is also co-founder of the electronic music group Underworld, and this book grew out of the process of creating Underworld’s acclaimed 1994 album, “Dubnobasswithmyheadman.”

“Plastic things washed up along the shore. Eroded wartime concrete. Rotting timbers held together with wedding bands of rusting metal. Standing in the marsh, our feet sink into ooze, counting piebald ponies grazing feral on landfill next to the power station. We slip our heads through holes torn in chain-link fences and listen to the wind. Gulls glide onto the surface of the river at sunset. River as glass where concrete barges languish like the half-sunk carcasses of animals at the end of war. Birdsong like Trimphones, sunset like a rave laser, graffiti masterpieces stencilled onto brutal concrete flood defences glowing in the dying of a luminescent light.”

«Underworld» inspires me to create a lot of gloomy art. Unfortunately, few people know about this Welsh techno duo.
