Tested the very outer limits of my friends’ endurance for my bullshit.

The other week, I thrifted this game from 1993 that I thought would be a hilarious jumble of 90s nostalgia, an escape room-like experience, mixed in with role-playing. I was right on two fronts: lots of nostalgia, lots of roleplaying. Almost no structure, though. It basically boiled down to “here’s a long drawn out story. What do?”. It was full of riveting calamities such as: “Oh no, evil gremlins are turning the faeries into stone. How do you stop them?” and "Slobo stole the mythical oak tree necklace. Oh me, oh my, can you get it back?" with 0 limits on possible solutions. Basically no guidelines at all. So most of our solutions came down to “turn monster into ice and smash them with club” because one of the crystal powers was freezing whatever target solid.
We really need to work on our imaginations I guess.
Well, all of us except my friend that is an early child educator and ex LARPer - she was obviously the most equipped. We relied heavily on her for inspiration.
It was fun to set up the stations, though. The bedroom was the unicorn’s Whispering Wood and the library was “Orianna’s Glen”.
Verdict: I would not recommend this game to anyone over the age of 10. Unless you are very drunk (which we were). I ended up cry-laughing face down on the bed after I had to roleplay whispering a ~mystical rhyme~ (that we all had to write together) into the ear of a unicorn.

Blessed spring from the Unicorn Glen. Look how much bedding she has in her beak. ♥

🇵🇸 Patch sale for Gaza! 🇵🇸 All April shop sales (prints and originals too!) benefit The Sameer Project, a Palestinian-led aid initiative supplying water, tents, medical aid and more.
I’ll donate the whole item price minus shipping and transaction fees. I’ll post the sales data and donation receipts at the end of the month (I’m not affiliated with The Sameer Project, just a supporter)

literally “in our bedroom after the war” by stars is so fucking good, it absolutely nails the back-and-forth between the great relief of a horrible event over, and then having to turn and face the mundane stress and dread that comes with returning to the world, and the repetition of “at least the war is over, this may be horrible, things may never be the same, I may never be the same, but at least the war is over” and god. GOD.

you need to be earnest. you need to tell people that you love them. you need to speak on how you’re feeling honestly. you need to be sentimental. you need to stop letting the fear of other people laughing at you have so much control over how you express yourself. you need to get over yourself. you need to be embarrassing but true.
