“Kara?”
She doesn’t answer. Lena’s presence doesn’t surprise her; Kara Danvers always knows where Lena Luthor is, at least as long as there’s a way for the sound of her heart to find Kara’s ears, no matter how soft or faint it might be. In her ruminations Kara thinks on that before she speaks. Even when they were at their worst, when they were hurting each other in every way that mattered, Kara would stop and listen.
It was a secret and sacred thing, a transgression that she would never admit. She would confess to scoping Lena out with her x-ray vision first. She’d never actually done that, but she’d pretend-admit before confessing that, sometimes, she’d listen to Lena’s heart as she slept and drift off to its slow and steady beat.
They’re by the sea, at the Danvers family home. It’s been a year since Alex and Kelly married and a small, core group have gathered here in this house by the waves to celebrate the anniversary. It’s just Alex and Kelly of course and Esme, and Lena and Kara. And Eliza.
She lives here, after all.
Nia and Brainy are in town in an AirBnB, and they’ve been by the house but are mostly doing their own thing. They’ll marry soon, Kara thinks. They have that air about them, the way that Alex and Kelly did before the proposal.
There is a sense of finality to it all that has fallen over Kara like the shadow of a passing storefront, and she sits where she can watch the ocean waves roll in, chin propped on arms resting on knees, curled up and watching the waves reach the high water mark and roll back.
Lena stands beside her now, seemingly unconcerned that Kara hasn’t answered her. This happens a lot now. There are companionable silences. Lena spends half her days in Kara’s home, working from a laptop on Kara’s kitchen counter while Kara writes at the kitchen table.
A lot has happened. Cat Grant offered her the role of EIC at CatCo; Kara rejected it. She’d mad furtive plans to reveal her identity, then canceled them. She’d told Cat but asked that it end there and Cat had respected it, then gone on an esoteric retreat at an eel farm or… something. Kara still submitted articles to CatCo but on a freelance basis, and she was submitting more articles elsewhere lately.
Actually, very little had happened. Kara had more time to really write, now. She put on her suit and flew out the window less and less, being less needed.
Lena sits down next to her and assumes a similar pose. Kara can’t help but look at her; she has never been able to resist looking at Lena Luthor. That too has changed. She doesn’t steal a glance this time, she studies, lets her gaze linger. She looks at the way the light of the golden hour plays with Lena’s soft, easy beauty. Her sort-of-roommate skipped putting on makeup this morning and her hair is down in a mop of air-dried dark curls, some of them lazily riding the breeze around her head. Some of it falls across her face and Kara fights the urge to sweep it back with a soft brush of her fingers.
Lena is beautiful. The warm light makes her pale skin glow, brings out the sparkle in her blue-green eyes, as deep as the sea they watch. There is a soft playful hint of a smile on her lips, but her brows are furrowed.
Kara thinks back to the last time she spoke to J’onn. She told the man, the closest thing she had left to a father in the world, about how she was wearing the cape less and working more, about Lena, about how Alex and Kelly seemed to be moving on, both of them now retired from the insanity of her lives and Alex actually planning to practice medicine.
“That’s what happens,” J’onn told her. “Things pass. Stories end. The great deeds are done, the archenemies vanquished, the miracles all performed. After that is just life.”
Kara wasn’t sure what that meant. In her life -almost sixty years, that she’d experienced as less than thirty- she’d packed in the experiences of a hundred lifetimes. She’d watched her world die, found her family, lost them, made a new one. She’d loved and lost and she’d even died- twice. She’d spent two eternities in her own personal hell.
Kara lets out a slow sigh. She’s still looking at Lena.
They have to have this conversation. Kara just doesn’t know what to say or how to say it. The problem is obvious. Lena and Kara had arrived this morning a few hours after Kelly and Alex, and found that Eliza had, as to be expected, already planned out who was bunking where.
“Alex and Kelly have Alex’s old room,” Eliza had told them, after hugging Lena. “Esme has Kara’s old room, and you and Lena can take the guest bedroom.”
When the words left her foster mother’s mouth, Kara’s heart raced. If Lena thought anything of it, she gave no sign. Kara was on the verge of panic.
Eliza had given the two of them a room with one bed. A small room, a shared room that would give two people no privacy.
Does she think we’re…?
Kara had considered the possibility before. She wasn’t blind or oblivious to a fluttering heart beat or lip bites or long stares, but…
“I’m scared,” Kara says, and she looks away.
She can feel Lena looking at her, gaze unwavering.
“What about?”
Kara swallows hard. She doesn’t know if Lena realizes what Eliza has assumed yet, if she’s put it together. She must have, because she came out here looking for Kara. Kara hadn’t run away exactly, but she had fled. She needed to think.
“One thing I’ve learned,” Kara says, “is that once you say something, you can’t un-say it. You can’t change the truth once it’s been told.”
Lena nods softly. She knows. They learned the same lesson from the same cruel trick.
“Do you know why I held on to my secret for so long?”
“You always said it was to protect me, and I didn’t accept that. Then when…” Lena pauses heavily, “when we moved on, I never really asked again.”
Kara swallows. “I lied. I did it for me.”
Lena says nothing.
“I was scared. I was afraid that once I told you, it would be the same with you as it was with everyone else. Once people know Kara is Supergirl, then Kara stops being Kara. Kara is just Supergirl’s real name.”
Kara’s breath hitches. She glances at Lena, who watches intently.
“I was wrong. I should have known better. I should have trusted you.”
“Yes,” said Lena. “You should have. I should have tried to understand you. To understand why instead of projecting my own insecurities onto your choice. But it doesn’t matter anymore. I forgave you.”
Waves crash in the silence.
“I would forgive you anything.”
“Even beating the last potsticker?”
“I’m serious, Lena.”
Lena sighs. “Are we going to talk about it?”
“You saw the room.”
Lena nods.
“Your mom seems to be assuming that we share a bed,” Lena says.
Kara swallows hard.
“The last time I was with Nia, she asked when I’m selling the penthouse, because she assumed I’ve been planning to move into your loft.”
Kara groped her knees because her hands are shaking. She grips her knees to stop them but it makes her legs shake instead.
Lena shifts closer, scooting across the grass. She’s not touching Kara but it feels like she is. Her touch becomes and threatens. They share space, the sea breeze passing over them as one. Lena looks at her through a tangle of inky curls and her eyes are infinite, searching Kara for something.
“I have deemed a dream,” Kara whispers. “I fear if I dream it too deeply I’ll suddenly wake, and when I wake it’ll be gone the way dreams always are, and it will fade as fast as any dream. The thought of losing it hurts so bad it makes it feel like my chest is caving in.”
Kara looks at Lena now. She looks so young, she is young. Her power suits and makeup and air of command and defiance all make her seem almost matronly but here with Kara that mask is gone and beneath it is her true self, her secret self that not even their friends see, a young girl who’s never been young.
Just like Kara.
“What if you woke up and the dream came true?”
“Sometimes,” Kara admits, “I wonder if you’re real. I used to dream of things when I floated in my pod and they seemed so real…”
“It’s real, Kara,” Lena whispers, soft and breathy. “It’s real and I’m not going anywhere. Nothing has to change. It’s just going to evolve. I know what you want to say and I’ve been scared of it too. What you’re saying, I can feel it in my soul… when the Luthors took me in, I used to dream that my mom was alive. I’d wake up smelling breakfast and hearing her sing and when I realized it was just a dream it was like she died again every morning.”
“I love you.”
Lena stares at her. Kara hears Lena’s steady pulse flutter and begins to stammer.
“I know I’ve said it before. I mean I’m in love with-“
Lena presses a finger to her lips.
“I know. Stop telling me and show me.”
Kara freezes, not sure what she meant. Lena twisted languidly and leaned towards her. Kara freezes briefly and then just lets go, moving on instinct. Using a little strength she pulls Lena into her lap, gently touches her chin, and tilts her back a touch, to kiss her.
It is at once tentative and soft and absolutely explosive. Kara forces back tears, as Lena embraces her with all her strength, molding herself to Kara as if she means to climb inside her. For all her urgency, her kiss is just as delicate, just as tender and exploratory.
It is as it has always been. They compliment each other perfectly, moving together without a word needed, Kara breaks the kiss because Lena needs air and lowers her to the grass, fully on top of her now, brushing lose strands of hair back from her face to kiss her again and again and again, each kiss ah apology, each brushing of lips a lament for time lost.
They could have been doing this for years.
Lena arches under her, grinding hungrily, kissing her furiously. She moans softly as Kara’s hands find bare skin and Kara murmurs a Kryptonian prayer against her lips, and her thighs rise to bracket Kara’s hips.
Kara feels it all. The desire, the lust, the need, and above all the unbridled joy. This is no dream. It’s real. It’s happening. It’s…
“Eww,” Alex says.
Kara snaps up, acutely aware that her hand is halfway up Lena’s now-askew top, and that Lena has leg-locked them together. Lena lets her head fall back and peers up at Alex.
“Eliza sent me to find you two. Dinner is ready,” Alex sighs, then turns, muttering,
“Get a room. Sheesh.”
Lena cracks first, unleashing a gale of laughter.
“Let me go,” she protests.
Kara lets her…. briefly. Play-wrestling ensues, and Lena just know that Kara is letting her win as they roll in the grass, but it no longer matters. Lena is flushed and grass-stained and joy burns her in her eyes and-
“Come on!” Alex bellows.
Kara helps her up, and they head for the house.

The gentle vibration of Lena's watch acted as her personal alarm, rousing her from the realm of dreams into a reality more blissful than she could have ever imagined. She blinked away sleep, her eyes adjusting to the soft light filtering through the curtains. Lena's arms instinctively tightened around the warm, naked form of Kara, who remained sound asleep, blissfully unaware of the early hour.
A smile tugged at Lena's lips as she looked upon Kara's adorable slumbering face. Her tousled hair cascaded around her, an unruly halo that only added to her enchanting allure. Lena's gaze traced the delicate lines of Kara's features—the gentle curve of her cheek, the slight pout of her lips, and the serene expression that painted her face.
In the tranquility of the moment, Lena's heart swelled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. She was captivated by the sight of Kara, at peace in her arms. It was in these moments, where the outside world was hushed and time seemed to stand still, that Lena truly appreciated what the universe had given her.
With great care, Lena extricated herself from Kara's embrace, untangling their limbs one by one. As she moved, Kara stirred, letting out a soft grumble and instinctively pulling Lena closer. Lena's smile widened, her heart fluttering with warmth at Kara's unconscious desire to keep her close.
Unable to resist the temptation, Lena leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on Kara's forehead, her lips lingering for a brief moment. She whispered softly, as if the words were meant for Kara's dreams alone, "I'll be back, my love."
Treading lightly, Lena tip-toed around the room, careful not to disturb Kara's peaceful slumber. Her movements were slow and deliberate, in an effort to not disturb Kara. She reached for her clothes, pausing occasionally to steal glances at Kara, unable to resist the allure of her presence.
She marveled at the way the soft morning light played upon Kara's features, enhancing her natural radiance. Lena's heart ached with a sense of wonder, knowing that she had found her forever in Kara.
As Lena finished dressing, she stood at the threshold of the room, her eyes once again drawn to the slumbering form on the bed before moving towards the kitchen, busying herself with making her morning coffee. As the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, Lena made her way to her home office, barefoot and focused. She settled into her chair, surrounded by the familiar comforts of her workspace. Today, she had an important project to tackle, something that required her undivided attention for the upcoming week.
She delved into her work but her thoughts occasionally drifted to Kara. She couldn't help but wonder when her girlfriend would finally awaken from her peaceful slumber. But she knew that Kara deserved the rest that weekends offered. While Lena admired Kara's unwavering commitment and selflessness, she couldn't help but feel a surge of protectiveness. She wanted nothing more than for Kara to experience rest, relaxation, and the freedom from the burdens she carried. Lena recognized the toll that Kara's superhero duties and long work hours took on her, and she made it her mission to make Kara's weekends as relaxing as possible.
Hours passed, and the clock struck 9 am. With a contented smile, Lena closed her laptop and rose from her desk. It was time to fulfill one of her favourite weekend rituals—one that never failed to make her happy. Lena made her way to the kitchen, her steps light.
In the kitchen, Lena set to work, preparing a delicious breakfast for Kara. She cracked eggs into a bowl, expertly whisking them before pouring them onto the sizzling pan. The aroma of bacon filled the room, mingling with the scent of freshly flipped pancakes. She carefully brewed Kara's coffee just the way she liked it, knowing that the aroma would soon entice her from her slumber.
As Lena cooked, a sense of contentment enveloped her. This simple act of making breakfast for Kara had become something special, something she looked forward to. A testament to the love she felt for Kara. Each time, Kara's surprise and excitement for the meal only deepened Lena's appreciation for the woman in her life.
It hadn't always been this way. Lena recalled the years they had spent hiding behind fears and uncertainties, denying the undeniable connection that had always simmered beneath the surface. The tension between them had been palpable, but it took time and circumstance to bring them together, and she was grateful for every turn that brought them to this moment.
Now, as she stood in the kitchen, filling plates with eggs, bacon, and fluffy pancakes, Lena couldn't help but feel a profound sense of gratitude. Kara's presence in her life had transformed everything, turning the mundane into the extraordinary. She marveled at how a simple act of making breakfast for her girlfriend could make her so happy.
Lena carefully arranged the tray, placing the freshly cooked breakfast and steaming coffee upon it. With the tray in her hands, Lena made her way back to the bedroom.
Pushing open the door, she entered the room to find Kara still nestled in the bed, sound asleep. The soft morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle glow upon her peaceful form. Lena's heart fluttered as she approached the bed, captivated by the sight of her beautiful partner, a vision of serenity.
With a smile playing on her lips, Lena set the tray on the night stand and leaned down, placing a tender kiss on Kara's soft lips. "Good morning, darling," she whispered, her voice carrying a mixture of affection and warmth.
Kara stirred, her sleepy smile breaking through as her eyes slowly fluttered open, adjusting to the gentle light. She wrapped the sheets around her naked body as she sat up, the morning air giving a slight chill to the room. As her gaze met Lena's, a spark ignited within her, and a smile that could melt hearts spread across her face. "Morning, beautiful," Kara greeted, her voice filled with love and adoration.
Lena's heart skipped a beat, as it did every morning when Kara greeted her with such genuine affection. The way Kara looked at her, as if she held the entire world in her eyes, made Lena feel so special. It was a feeling she could never tire of.
Lena's smiled as Kara's sleepy eyes widened in excitement at the sight of the carefully prepared breakfast tray. She brought it to the bed, placing it between them, creating a cozy space for breakfast in bed with her girlfriend.
Lena found herself entranced by Kara's presence as they ate. Her gaze wandered, admiring the way Kara's hair fell in tousled waves, framing her face with an ethereal beauty. The intimacy of sharing breakfast in bed, the simple act of spending a Sunday morning together, held a significance that transcended the ordinary.
As they finished their breakfast, Kara leaned in, capturing Lena's lips in a sweet morning kiss, filled with tenderness and affection. Lena could tase the bitterness of the coffee and the sweetness of the pancakes on Kara's lips.
Kara stood up, allowing the sheet to gracefully fall from her body, and Lena's eyes traced every curve, every line that made up Kara's exquisite form. The morning light danced upon her skin, accentuating her beauty in a way that took Lena's breath away.
Kara turned to Lena, her eyes sparkling with playful mischief, and issued an invitation that sent a shiver of anticipation down Lena's spine. "Join me for a shower, Miss Luthor?" she asked, her voice laced with both innocence and seduction.
A surge of heat flushed through Lena's body. She nodded, her voice husky with desire, "Certainly, Miss Danvers."
As Lena followed Kara into the bathroom, she couldn't help but notice the perfection of the moment.
--
Lena stepped out of the shower, wrapping her towel around her, the steam from the bathroom still clinging to her skin. She followed Kara into the room, the echoes of Kara's touch, which had brought her to the peak of pleasure mere moments ago, still reverberating within her and the taste of Kara lingering on her lips.
Before getting dressed, Lena pressed a soft kiss to Kara's lips and Kara smiled, lighting up the overcast day.
As Lena dressed, she couldn't help but steal glances at Kara, who mirrored her actions. The sight of Kara slipping on Lena's old MIT sweatshirt tugged at her heartstrings. It was a seemingly insignificant gesture, but one that held profound meaning. Lena knew it was cheesy, but the sight of Kara in her clothes always made her happy. She thought back to the night she had first lent Kara the sweatshirt. It had been a casual movie night at Lena's penthouse, back when they were still just friends and hiding behind their fears, when Kara, in her adorably clumsy manner, had accidentally spilled wine on her shirt, leaving an indelible stain. Lena had offered her the sweatshirt to change into.
The following morning, Lena had walked past the guest bedroom and caught a glimpse of Kara peacefully asleep, her face nestled against the fabric of the sweatshirt. Lena had felt a surge of happiness, a glimpse into a potential future with Kara, even though fear held her back from pursuing it fully. In that moment, she had wished that she was waking up next to Kara, instead of in a different bed. She never asked for the sweatshirt back, thinking that it had never looked as good as it did on Kara. And now, she watched as her girlfriend slipped into that same sweater, and marvelled at how their relationship had shifted into something greater than she could have ever dared to wish for.
Lena, now clad in a cozy sweater, observed Kara's struggle with her tousled hair, a mischievous smirk playing on her lips. She knew all too well that the disarray was a result of her desperate fingers that had been tangled in Kara's hair just a few minutes ago. Unable to resist, Lena stepped forward, positioning herself behind Kara, their bodies lightly brushing against each other.
Gently, Lena gathered Kara's hair, skillfully pulling it up into a neat ponytail. Lena couldn't help but press a tender kiss to Kara's neck, feeling the delightful hitch in Kara's breath. Sensing Kara's reaction, Lena's heart skipped a beat.
Kara turned around, her lips meeting Lena's in a kiss that immediately reignited Lena's desire. They reluctantly broke the kiss, their panting breaths mingling in the air.
"Darling, if we continue like this, we'll never leave this room," Lena whispered, her voice laced with a mix of playfulness and longing.
Kara's lips curved into a mischievous smile. "Maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing," she teased.
Lena chuckled, her fingers tenderly brushing against Kara's cheek. "As tempting as that sounds, my love, I do have some work to finish," she admitted reluctantly.
Kara pouted adorably, her brows furrowing in a mock plea. "Can't you take a break? We could watch a movie together," she suggested.
Lena's resistance wavered and she smiled, giving in to Kara.
"Alright, I'll join you on the couch," she agreed, her voice tinged with amusement. "But I'm bringing my laptop so I can work while we watch," she added, a hint of doubt creeping into her words. She knew deep down that productivity would be a distant memory in Kara's presence.
A gentle rain began to fall outside as they snuggled up on the couch, a soft blanket enveloping them and Kara leaned comfortably against Lena. Lena immediately abandoned any thought of work, completely captivated by the presence of Kara beside her. Instead of opening her laptop, she wrapped her arms lovingly around Kara, pulling her closer.
With a bowl of popcorn nestled between them, Kara took charge of the movie selection, choosing a ridiculously scary film that promised thrills and chills. As the tension built on the screen, Kara couldn't help but react to every jump scare, her startled jumps accompanied by infectious laughter from Lena. With each suspenseful twist and unexpected scare, Kara's body jolted, eliciting genuine jumps and yelps. The contrast between Kara's invincible nature and her vulnerability to cinematic frights amused Lena to no end.
As Kara absentmindedly fed Lena popcorn, Lena's fingers playfully grazed Kara's cheek, tenderly brushing stray strands of hair behind her ear. She pressed a gentle kiss to Kara's head, and in that moment, the world outside seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them enveloped in their own little universe.
--
Later that evening, Lena stood by the kitchen counter, a warm smile gracing her lips as she watched Kara expertly mix cookie batter. They were eagerly preparing a batch of cookies in anticipation of a visit from Alex, Kelly, and Lena's adorable goddaughter, Esme.
As Lena's gaze traveled up Kara's face, she noticed a dusting of flour on Kara's cheek. Lena's smiled, finding the sight irresistibly adorable. With a soft chuckle, she leaned in, her thumb gently wiping away the flour as she pressed a kiss to Kara's lips.
"Seems like you've got a little something right here," Lena murmured. "You know, you're incredibly adorable like this," she continued, capturing Kara's lips in another sweet kiss. Lena's hands instinctively found their place on Kara's waist, pulling her closer as the kiss deepened. She could taste the sweetness of the batter that Kara had tried as she mixed. The bowl of cookie batter slipped out of Kara's hands, and landed on the counter with a loud clatter, causing them to break apart laughing. Thankfully, it landed the right way, and the batter was safe.
Kara glanced up, a mischievous twinkle in her eyes. "If you keep distracting me like that, there will be no cookies and you'll have to explain that to Esme."
Lena laughed, holding her hands up.
"Okay, okay. No more distractions. I don't want to suffer Esme's wrath."
Kara grinned at Lena as she picked up the cookie batter again. They resumed their baking duties, their movements synchronized as they mixed, scooped, and placed cookie dough on the baking sheet.
"Esme is growing up so fast," Kara said with a fond smile, leaning against the counter as Lena carefully placed the final tray of cookies in the oven, "I can't believe it'll be her birthday soon. We need to find her the perfect birthday gift."
Lena nodded as she picked up the bowl of leftover batter, scooping some out with her fingers to taste, her mind already spinning with ideas. "I was thinking something cool, like a drone or a mini electric car."
Kara chuckled. "Maybe for this birthday we could think a bit smaller. Something cute and small that won't cause absolute destruction to their house?"
Lena always wanted to spoil Esme, because what was the point of being a billionaire if she couldn't spend a lot of money on the people she loved? And she loved that little girl so much. But she knew that Kara was right. Esme could be a handful and putting a drone control, or the steering wheel of a little car in those little hands could only lead to disaster.
"Okay," Lena relented, "We'll go shopping next weekend. To find something small," She jokingly rolled her eyes as she said the last part and Kara stuck her tongue out at Lena.
Just then, the elevator's cheerful ding announced the arrival of their guests. Kara's face lit up with a wide grin, knowing that Alex, Kelly, and Esme had finally arrived. But as they left the kitchen, a whirlwind of energy collided with Lena, catching her off guard and sending her tumbling to the floor. It was Esme, the little bundle of joy, who had thrown herself into Lena's arms with uncontainable excitement.
But the excitement didn't stop there. As Lena tried to stand up, Kara, unable to resist the playfulness, launched herself on top of the hugging duo. Esme's giggles filled the air as she squirmed and wriggled, thoroughly tickled by the combined efforts of Lena and Kara. The sound of their laughter mixed with Esme's infectious joy, creating a harmonious melody of purehappiness.
Alex and Kelly entered, witnessing the scene with fond exasperation. Looking at Kelly, Alex playfully muttered, "They're all children," shaking her head at the sight before them.
Eventually, they managed to regain their breath and composure, standing up from the laughter-filled heap. Esme's eyes widened as the delightful aroma of freshly baked cookies reached her senses, and with a burst of anticipation, she sprinted towards the kitchen, enthusiastically chanting, "Cookies!"
Lena's laughter accompanied her as she watched Esme's infectious excitement. Meanwhile, Kara hurriedly followed Esme into the kitchen. Lena warmly greeted Alex and Kelly, enveloping them in affectionate hugs and taking their coats.
Alex teasingly remarked, "You guys spoil her."
Lena grinned, "That's our job."
They entered the kitchen to the sight of Kara kneeling in front of Esme, breaking a cookie in half and offering one piece to the delighted little girl, and placing a piece in her own mouth. Kara's eyes sparkled with joy, her radiance captivating Lena in that very moment. It was a glimpse of perfection, a snapshot of happiness that Lena wished she could freeze in time. The soft glow of the kitchen lights danced in Kara's eyes, and Lena couldn't help but get lost in them.
In that moment, Lena's gaze lingered on Kara, captivated by her warmth and the way she effortlessly embraced the role of nurturing aunt. It was in these simple acts of love that Lena's heart expanded with a longing for a forever with Kara.
As Kara's eyes met Lena's, a knowing smile graced her lips.
--
As the evening drew to a close, Lena and Kara found themselves in the cozy confines of their kitchen, the remnants of a delightful evening with Alex, Kelly, and Esme still lingering in the air. Lena stood by the sink, her hands submerged in warm, soapy water, washing the dishes with a contented smile. Kara, her ever-enthusiastic self, stood by her side, ready to assist by drying and putting away the dishes.
Lena glanced at Kara, her heart swelling with affection as she handed over another plate for her to dry and put away. "You know, I really enjoyed tonight," Lena murmured softly, her voice carrying a tinge of happiness.
Kara beamed, reaching out to take the dish from Lena's hands.
As they focused on the domestic task at hand, their conversation shifted towards their plans for the upcoming day.
"So, Super Reporter, what exciting adventures await you tomorrow?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. Kara had been making waves with her articles recently, and Lena couldn't be prouder.
Kara's eyes sparkled with excitement as she spoke. "I have an exclusive interview with the CEO of ZinTech for their new tech unveiling. He never speaks to anyone!"
Lena's lips curled into a proud smile as she admired Kara's passion. "Well, you're not just anyone, are you?"
Kara blushed adorably, and immediately turned her attention to Lena. "And what about you, my brilliant CEO? Any big plans for tomorrow?"
Lena's expression softened, her gaze locking with Kara's. "I have a crucial meeting with the board of a company I hope to acquire. I need to convince them that our visions align. It's a bit nerve-wracking."
Lena had been stressed. This board was notoriously difficult to deal with, and the company was in demand. So they were being extra picky, knowing that they had every option available. Lena had to present herself as the best option.
Kara reached out, her hand gently caressing Lena's cheek. "Lena, you'll do amazing. They'll be lucky to have you. And besides, who could resist Lena Luthor?"
Lena couldn't help but feel a surge of warmth in her chest. Kara had an uncanny ability to make her feel like she could conquer the world. She leaned into the touch, reveling in Kara's affectionate reassurance. Before she knew it, Kara leaned in and pressed a tender kiss against Lena's cheek, filling her with a sense of comfort.
"Thank you, Kara," Lena whispered, her voice tinged with adoration.
As Lena and Kara finished the last of the dishes, Lena turned to survey the kitchen. A sense of warmth and homeliness enveloped the space, replacing the once stark and empty atmosphere. Before Kara moved in, the kitchen had been a utilitarian area, devoid of personal touches. It had been a place where Lena stored her takeout containers in the fridge and occasionally paused for a glass of wine. But now, it was so much more.
Lena's eyes scanned the room, taking note of the subtle signs that marked their life together. A plant they both took turns watering stood in the corner, it's leaves vibrant and beautiful. On the shelves, colourful mugs that Kara liked to collect were lined up, each more ridiculous than the next. A cookie jar sat on the counter and Kara ensured that it was always stocked with Lena's favourites. Lena couldn't help but smile at that.
Kara's coat hung on the back of a chair, and Lena's heels were tucked under the table, exactly where they had left them on Friday night when they sat at this table to eat the pizza Kara had flown to Central City for.
Lena didn't even realise when her stark penthouse had turned into a home.
--
Lena climbed into bed, snuggling against the soft pillows, book in hand. Meanwhile, Kara moved around adjoining closet, carefully packing away her notebooks and laptop for the next day, fidgeting with her recorder.
The bedroom was filled with the soft glow of the bedside lamp, casting a warm ambiance that invited relaxation. Lena was immersed in her book, allowing herself to be transported to another world.
However, her blissful reading was interrupted by the sound of Kara's footsteps approaching the bedroom. Lena couldn't help but feel a mixture of amusement and anticipation. She knew all too well that Kara had a knack for playfully distracting her.
As Kara climbed into bed beside her, Lena pretended not to notice, determined to maintain her focus on the book. But Kara had other plans. With a mischievous smile dancing on her lips, she leaned in and planted a series of gentle kisses along Lena's neck and behind her ear.
Lena's breath hitched, a jolt of pleasure coursing through her veins. She fought to keep her attention on the words before her, but Kara's touch was a tantalizing distraction. Her fingertips traced a path of light feathery strokes along Lena's arms, her waist, and gradually ventured to her thighs.
Sensations swirled within Lena, her heart quickening its pace. The words on the pages became blurry, as Kara's playful exploration ignited a fierce desire within her. Lena could feel the intensity building, the craving for Kara's touch growing stronger with each passing moment.
Unable to resist any longer, Kara slowly pulled Lena's book away, her eyes darkening with a hunger that mirrored Lena's own longing. The room seemed to hum with a charged energy as their gazes locked.
In that exhilarating instant, Lena surrendered to the magnetic pull between them. With a surge of passion, she reached out and pulled Kara closer, their lips meeting in a fiery, passionate kiss. Their mouths melded together, igniting a blaze that consumed them both.
Kara's hands instinctively found their way to Lena's waist, pulling her in closer, intensifying the connection between them. The world around them faded into insignificance as they lost themselves in each other.
--
As Lena drifted off to sleep, her arms wrapped tightly around Kara, she couldn't help but utter a silent wish to spend every Sunday for the rest of her life like this- with Kara.

Kiss Me in the Rain
It’s a quiet Friday evening. They’re quietly basking in each other’s company on the rooftop terrace of Kara’s apartment building. Since the blonde’s return, it’s become a common occurrence. Almost every time Lena asks what she wants to do, Kara’s response is ‘spend time with you doing simple things’. It’s something she has been insistent about in the months since she’s been home from the Phantom Zone, indulging in the small things.
Of course, Lena’s certainly not going to argue. Why would she? She’s been pining over her gorgeous best friend for years, always willing to give her time to the woman. Any time spent with Kara is time well spent, in her opinion. Besides, there is no one else she’d give her time to, no one else worthy.
Their current position has them leaning against the wall of the building, gazing out at the city with its twinkling lights and people mulling about. Inquisitive green eyes wander toward the distinct profile of her best friend standing next to her. She’s in awe of the way the dwindling rays of the sun seem to caress her tan skin and create a starburst of color in golden waves. All the while, her traitorous heart zealously flutters against her ribs, inelegantly clamoring to deposit itself into Kara’s strong hands.
The ravenette’s thoughts are broken as her eyes land on the concerned deep blue orbs staring back at her. Kara’s eyebrows crinkle and her eyes drop briefly to Lena’s chest before darting back up, a look in them that shoots sparks right down her spine. “Everything okay? Your heart just did some interesting acrobatics.” A lopsided smile joins the concerned crinkle on Kara’s handsome face.
Lena laughs. She’s been caught and there’s not a damn thing she can do about it. Yet again her body tells on her. No matter how much stoicism she uses to mask it, she’ll never fool super hearing. Maybe she needs to find a spell for that, she idly considers. “Yes, I’m fine. Just…lost in my thoughts.” She smiles, feeling the blush spread across her cheeks and down her neck. “Sometimes my brain still needs to see that you’re real, that you’re truly here. Sorry for staring.”
A warm hand lands on the small of Lena’s back and another on her stomach. Kara turns her body until they’re facing each other. “I’m here and very real, Lena. Thanks to your beautiful brain.” She leans forward, places a soft kiss to the ravenette’s forehead, and pulls her close until they’re in a full body embrace. “I’m so grateful for you. You’ve saved me so many times and in so many ways. More than you know.”
Lena’s breath hitches and her eyes flutter. The position is nothing new, but she still isn’t used to being so tactile with someone, having someone in her space again. Not yet, anyway. Kara’s warmth is something she wasn’t sure she’d have again and she cherishes every moment, but it absolutely steals her breath each time it happens. Specifically now that she is sure of what she feels and what she almost lost. “Kara.” She whispers, desperately trying to swallow the lump settling in her throat. “I missed you so much.” She blinks back the tears stinging her eyes, refusing to let them fall.
“I missed you too, Lena. The Phantom Zone made me relive losing you a million times.” She leans back and smiles sadly down at the watery green eyes of the woman she now realizes she’s very deeply in love with. “I feel like we have a lot of lost time to make up for. That I have so many things to atone for, if you’ll let me. I’ve been home for months and I know we spend most of our free time together, but it just…it never feels like enough.” She chuckles and rolls her eyes at herself as her cheeks turn rosy.
“Aww, does Supergirl want to hang out with little ole me?” Lena winks, smirks, and quirks a well-manicured brow at the blonde, loving the effect she has on her. Clearing her throat of the welling emotion, she returns to seriousness. “I feel the same way, Kara. Making up for lost time, earning your forgiveness, and unquestionably wanting to spend as much time with you as possible. All of it. I will never tire of being with you.”
A shy smile stretches across full pink lips as azure eyes curiously scan pale features, seemingly looking for an answer to unasked questions. The blonde shakes her head, rogue thoughts pushed aside. “Same. I think I could spend every waking moment with you and still miss you in my sleep.” Kara shrugs and leans back into their still lingering hug. She turns her face into the warmth of Lena’s neck, inhaling the familiar scent that is simply Lena. Her lips softly graze the pulsing artery under soft skin as she speaks. “I’m so glad you’re here with me. I don’t think I would be adjusting so well without you.”
Again, Lena’s breath hitches. The heat of Kara's breath and feel of her supple lips against the skin of her neck sends electricity skittering across her body and down her spine. She tightens her arms around the blonde’s back and runs her hands across her shoulder blades, pulling their bodies impossibly closer. “I’m here for you, Kara. Whatever you need. And for the record, I am perfectly okay spending every waking moment with you.” She mutters under her breath, ‘sleeping moments too’, forgetting that the super can still hear her.
Kara laughs and pulls away from Lena just enough that they are face to face again. She tilts her head to the side and stares for a moment, watching as pale cheeks turn pink. “Did you forget about my super hearing again?” A knowing smirk sitting on her lips. “You want to spend your nights with me too, huh?” She laughs as ivory skin darkens into a rouge.
“I suppose I did forget.” Lena says as she looks anywhere but at the blonde. “You definitely weren’t supposed to hear that.”
“Hmm, well I did. Does that mean you’ll sleep over tonight?” A hopeful, bright smile spreads across Kara’s face. “I was planning to ask anyway.”
A soft giggle rushes through Lena’s lips before she can stop it. “I suppose I can do that.” She pulls them both back toward the wall to look out at the now darkened sky. Desperate to change the subject, she points to the clouds across the city. “It looks like it might rain.”
“It does.” She smiles at the blatant subject change. “There’s something so alluring about the rain. A magnetic mystery. Something oddly romantic.” She nudges Lena’s shoulder next to her, ducking her head in slight embarrassment at her overshare. Slightly worried that the dark haired genius woman can see through her and spot the feelings that run wildly through her veins.
A soft, reflective smile appears on Lena’s face. “I used to have this daydream, or maybe a fantasy of sorts, when I was younger that involved rain.” She fidgets with her fingers where they rest on the edge of the wall in front of her. “I’m not completely sure why or where it came from, but it was the one that always stuck.”
Kara watches her closely, quietly encouraging the ebony haired genius to keep talking. When it becomes clear that Lena is lost to her own thoughts of whatever this fantasy might be, she reaches over to still her wringing hands. “Where’d you go? Did you drift off into this little fantasy of yours?” She smiles and wiggles her eyebrows, lacing their fingers together. “You can share, you know? All of your daydreams and fantasies are safe with me.”
Lena isn’t sure how Kara meant that statement, but her body took it to mean something decidedly not platonic. Once more, sparks skate across her skin and down her spine, landing squarely between her thighs. Shaking her head of the increasingly naughty thoughts, she glances over at the blonde. Her best friend is biting her bottom lip and staring at her lips at the same time.
She licks her lips and lifts a questioning brow when darkened blue eyes lock with her own. “I did get lost in my dream world for a minute. It’s been a while since I’ve allowed myself to think about things like that.” She smirks as Kara’s eyes drift down to her lips again. “Find something interesting, Kara?”
“Hmm? Oh. Sorry.” Kara says, feeling her blush spread across her cheeks and down her chest. “I was just thinking about what this fantasy involving rain could be. You’ve never really shared anything like that with me before and now I am very curious.”
A melodic laugh fills the air around them as it bursts from Lena’s lips. She squeezes the blonde’s hand still intertwined with her own. “I’ve never really shared them with anyone, I guess. Especially not this one. Growing up in the environment I did, I was never really allowed to express fantasies or daydreams of any kind. Especially not any that involved romanticizing.” She scoffs and rolls her eyes. “Could you imagine Lillian or Lex having any type of romantic inclinations?! They were barely human on a good day.”
Kara chuckles. There’s a sparkle of mischief in those beguiling green eyes. She’s spent many nights thinking about what kind of teenager Lena might have been and moments like this make her think there’s still much to learn about the mystery that is Lena Luthor. “I bet you are full of lots of surprises, aren't you?” She grins as she sees the cheshire cat smile make its way onto plump lips. “Oh, that smile tells me I’m not wrong!” She laughs and lifts their hands to her lips to place a soft kiss to the back of a delicate pale hand
“There are so many things you don’t know about me, Miss Danvers.” She winks and leans over to whisper in the blonde’s ear. “I was quite rebellious in my own ways. Some that very few people know about.”
She shudders at the wet warmth of Lena’s breath against the shell of her ear. They are most definitely skating on the edges of their normal flirtatious banter and it’s scattering goosebumps all over her impenetrable skin. Now she absolutely wants to know more, but specifically wants to know what this little fantasy is about. “You know you have to tell me now. I’m always curious to know more about you, but this has greatly piqued my interest.”
“What do you want to know?” Lena gives her a smoldering look, lightly running her free hand up and down the skin of Kara’s forearm. She smiles at the goosebumps that follow her touch. “I am an open book for you, Darling.”
Kara practically chokes on air and disbelief at the look the ravenette gives her. There is a shift in the energy between them. She’s not sure what it is or what’s happening, but everywhere Lena’s fingers touch her skin feels like her body is on fire. “W-what’s the rain fantasy? And I definitely want to know about your rebellious ways.” She tilts her head to the side. “I bet you went out and got tattoos and piercings, didn’t you?”
With a devilish smirk, she leans toward the blonde and whispers, “Oh absolutely. I still have several piercings. They’re just not visible.” She chuckles as she watches Kara’s eyes bulge and hears an almost inaudible squeak escape. “If you’re good, maybe I’ll show them to you someday.”
A very inelegant whimper makes its way out of her throat and her imagination runs wild. She has some ideas about where Lena’s piercings are and it does quite a few assuredly non-platonic things to her body. “I think it would be a lot…of fun. To know. Those things. About you.” She clears her throat in an attempt to clear her thoughts. “Now, what about the rain fantasy? Are you going to tell me or keep avoiding it?”
Lena laughs. A full belly laugh. She caught Kara off guard, but she recovered pretty well. “Are you sure you want to know? We’ve never really talked about those types of things together and I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.” She smiles at her best friend. “You can’t unknow this about me once it’s out there. Last chance.”
“I promise I want to know. There’s nothing you can say to me that will make me love you any less, Lena. It’s not possible.” She grins at the rosy cheeks she gets in return. “Plus, you’re only ever evasive like that if it’s something that means a lot to you. That will always make me want to know.”
She releases a deep breath and observes the way Kara’s eyes dance curiosity in the now overcast moonlight. The clouds have moved closer to where they are and darkened the sky around them. “I think it started when I watched The Notebook when I was 18. I kept hearing the girls in my dorm talking about how romantic the movie was and I had never seen it.” She glances at Kara. The blonde is listening intently so she continues.
“By the way, that movie is emotionally devastating. Anway, I watched it on my laptop tucked into my bed in my dorm. The scene where they confess their feelings and end up kissing in the rain resonated with me and sparked a fantasy of being kissed in the rain by the love of my life.” She laughs and rolls her eyes. “Unfortunately, life doesn't always work that way. So, over the years, the fantasy has evolved and built upon the first kiss in the rain.”
“What has it evolved into? It obviously started from kissing in the rain, but there seems to be a lot more to it based on the look in your eyes and how far your mind wandered off.” Kara grins and watches Lena’s mind slowly drift again. “Just like that! You just drifted off again.”
Lena shakes her head and forces her thoughts back to the conversation, away from the erotic fantasy that has begun to feature the woman next to her in recent years. “Sorry. Well, it varies, but it always involves kissing in the rain. Sometimes there are torn sheets in the rain as well.” She cuts her eyes to the side and watches as the blonde’s brain catches up with her words, chuckling when blue eyes go wide. “The simplest one starts with a picnic under the stars and ends with making love on the blanket. But, it’s always interrupted by the rain.”
She pauses and gathers her thoughts before finally adding. “I think my favorite is making love on the blanket. When the rain comes, we scramble to cover ourselves and end up tearing the sheets that are covering our naked skin. As the rain falls, our bare bodies are pressed together while we stand in the rain wrapped in the sheets. We share a passionate kiss as the rain pleasantly stings our skin. Then we profess our love for each other as we rest our foreheads together in the middle of a rainstorm.” She sighs and shrugs her shoulders. “Or something like that.”
Kara stands stock still and is eerily quiet beside her. She’s unsure what to say or do after the incredibly intimate and vulnerable confession. Swallowing hard, she chances a glance at the woman next to her and what she sees sends a shudder through her body and throb to her core. The blue of her eyes barely rim the wide, blown out pupils. Her cheeks are flush and her breathing is heavier than before. If she had to guess, she would say the blonde is turned on by the revelation. And well, she’s not sure what to do with that at the moment.
So, she clears her throat and tries for self-deprecation. “It’s a bit unrealistic, but something about it has always stayed with me.” She smiles shyly. “Have you ever fantasized about something like that?”
“Um, yeah. I guess so.” Kara swallows hard. She’s not sure she can speak coherently right now. Every word and the way Lena talked about it produced some very vivid images. The images are still dancing in her mind's eyes. Images of her and Lena acting out the fantasy. And well, let’s just say that her heart isn’t just beating in her chest anymore. “T-that was…I can understand why it stayed with you. I think it will likely stay with me too.” She chuckles.
Lena leans her head onto Kara’s shoulder. “Hmm, glad I have someone to share the burden now.” She laughs and squeezes the bicep of the arms that’s holding up her head. “There’s just something about kissing in the rain that seems like it would be so raw and real. I think it would be a very memorable first kiss.”
They stand in silence for a while. Both lost in their own thoughts, when the first drop of rain hits their skin. It takes another five minutes before the rain really starts coming down. Before they know it, they’re both laughing and leaning into each other, letting the rain wash over their skin.
“Well, I guess that means we need to call it a night, huh?” Kara says, pulling Lena away from the wall and toward the door to the stairwell. “Thank you for sharing that with me. I know it wasn’t easy for you.”
Lena smiles. “Sharing with you makes it easier.” She pulls the blonde to a stop just before they get to the door, slowly running her hands up the now damp skin of Kara’s forearms. “What if I wanted it to be you?” She asks quietly as her arms loop around the blonde’s shoulders.
Still darkened blue eyes bounce between hopeful green. “W-what do you mean?” Kara asks, swallowing the hope that keeps trying to camp out in her throat. “Tell me, Lena.”
Delicate fingers mingle with the loose strands at the nape of Kara’s neck, pulling their foreheads together. Lena gently rubs their noses together, their breath mingling in the scant space between them. She breathes against the pink lips she’s imagined kissing for years. “My first kiss in the rain. The fantasy has been you for years. All of it has been.” A shaky breath escapes as their eyes lock and she presses forward. “Tell me to stop.”
“I don’t want you to.” Kara whispers. “Please. Kiss me in the rain.”

I'm actually really surprised that the supergirl writers didn't steal from a Charmed episode and have an episode where there was someone killing people in their dreams. Or maybe instead of killing people, he somehow traps their minds in their own nightmares and uses their bodies to do bad things.
Of course Nia would be the only one who could stop the bad guy, obvs, but I also had an intense desire to set this idea in the Sister, Sister verse, so maybe when the guy sets his sights on the superfriends, they're just like, okay we won't sleep then.
And everyone thinks Lena is most equipped to deal with the lack of sleep, so they don't really worry about her, until one evening Nia goes to Lena's apartment passed out on the floor, having hit her head on the way down.
They bring Lena back to the Tower medbay, but because she's fallen asleep, Lena's now compromised, so they have to restrain her. Except when she wakes up she seems totally herself, if a little panicked to be strapped down. Most people who are targeted by the bad guy are zombies from the moment they wake up, so Lena is so normal that they're kind of taken aback, and ultimately determine that maybe her magic protected her, question mark?
So they release her, and Lena gets back to work. Until Nia makes a discovery on a potential strategy and turns to find Lena behind her with a knife.
They fight, and once Lena is subdued, Nia dives into her friend's nightmare that she's trapped in, where Lex has her strapped to an operating table and is ready to pick her apart like a specimen. Nia is horrified, but understands that it's a manifestation of Lena's old fears, and tries to get through to her. Because maybe it'll be like the Black Mercy-- if Lena can reject the nightmare, maybe it will end.
It takes some effort. At first Lena can't even see her, and Lena's raw and palpable fear makes Nia's heart pound in her chest like the fear is her own. But little by little she gets through to Lena, and when Lena believes Nia, the straps release her and Nia can help Lena slide off the table. But they're still in a lab, with no visible doors.
How do they get out?
Then they hear Lex start clapping, and as they watch Lex's face melts away to reveal their true villain. Lena grips Nia's hand tight, and Nia can taste her friend's renewed fear. Lena can feel how her mind has been violated, her body made not her own. But Nia can also feel that old Luthor fight in her.
The bad guy monologues about how he couldn't tip his hand with Lena too early, before he fully had his claws in her, not when Lena had such power at her disposal. With Lena, he gloats, he could do anything he wanted.
"I don't think so," Nia says, lashing out with a bolt of dream energy. But the guy deflects with a magical field.
Nia looks to Lena. "Was that his power of yours?"
Lena swallows thickly. "Mine. I-- I'm sorry, I can't--"
"It's okay," Nia promises. "I got this."
And she does. But as she fights the villain, it becomes apparent that the magic he siphons from Lena is finite-- Lena visibly weakens as the fight progresses, and Nia falters.
"The more we fight," he taunts, "the more I drain from her. Kill me, and she goes with me."
But before Nia has the chance to face an impossible decision to choose one or the many, Lena grabs a scalpel from one of the trays amd slits his throat.
"Fuck you," she grunts, before she staggers.
Nia catches her, tearfully asking why she did that.
"Spite, mostly," Lena rasps, prompting a tearful laugh from Nia. She squeezes Nia's hand. "And because I couldn't bear it if he used my power to hurt you."
"Lena..."
"I'm sorry I blamed you for keeping Kara's secret. It should never have been your burden to carry..."
"Lena, stop--"
By now Lena is visibly fading, her life force bleeding away as Nia cradles her close.
"Thank you, Nia," she whispers. "For-- for everything."
It's the last thing she says as her eyes flutter shut. In growing panic, Nia shakes her head in defiance. "No," she declares. "Not like this."
She reaches out to where the villain is similarly starting to dissipate, and uses her dream energy to corral the sense of Lena that's bleeding from him. She gathers all she can, then compresses it into a ball of glowing light, an energy that's warm, and gentle, and familiar.
Using her power, she returns the energy to Lena, directing it to settle squarely in Lena's fading chest. It takes a moment, but then the orb of energy pulses, and the light spreads through Lena, bringing her back to opacity.
Lena's eyes open once more, her chest rising with a deep, full breath. Nia gasps in relief, and hugs Lena to her chest.
"Don't you ever do that again."
When they return to the waking world, everything seems to return to normal. Except for one thing that doesn't make the trip back with them.
Lena no longer has her magic.

“Talk about history repeating itself… tracking Lex through Eve. It’s just like Kasnia.” Lena says, trying to relieve some tension in the room. Kara, though present, offers little to no words and it’s killing Lena deep inside.
“Please Kara, I’m sorry.” Lena pleaded. “I truly believed what I was doing was helping people-”
Kara interrupts her. “I told you, I don’t want to talk about the past.”
“Oh come on, you can scream at me if you like. I know I deserve it.” Lena pleads. She’d rather have Kara yelling at her than not talk to her. “I know now that working on Non Nocere was a mistake. That working with Lex was a mis-”
“THIS IS NOT ABOUT LEX!” Kara yells. “This is about J’onn and Alex and all the other people that could have been killed today because they’re on my team. Don’t you understand that?”
“No, of course, I do.”
“No, you don’t! You have never understood what it means to share a secret identity with someone, how much danger that puts them in.” Lena could feel that anger coming from her (former) best friend. She could sense how much she was holding herself back, stuttering in anger. “You, you never understood that I kept my identity from you because I wanted to protect you!
“And I know, I know I hurt you by waiting so long to tell you my truth. But what about all the ways you hurt me?” Kara paused and Lena braced for all the hurtful things she had done. “You pretended to be my friend for weeks, just so you can manipulate me. You stole from me. You convinced me to steal for you. And then, then you even… you used Kryptonite on me.
“I made one mistake. One mistake… that was only meant to protect you and in return all you did was hurt me in any way imaginable.”
Lena could feel the tears threatening to fall with every word Kara said. Each sin felt like a hard slap in the face. But she stood strong, she will do whatever she needs to even be worthy of standing beside her friend again.
“I’m sorry.”
“I know you are.” Kara quickly answers back. Her next words, breaking Lena’s already fragile heart. “But if you came for me for absolution. I can’t give it to you. I don’t know if I can ever forgive you.”
The words hung in the air, a chasm opening up between them, deeper than any they had faced before. Lena’s heart ached, but she didn’t let it show. She nodded once, a brief, almost imperceptible motion.
“I understand,” Lena said, her voice tight. She turned back to her computer, her fingers resuming their task. “You have to do what you think is right.”
Kara hesitated, as if there was something more she wanted to say, but the weight of the moment, the hurt that still hung between them, was too much. Without another word, she turned and walked out, the door sliding shut behind her with a quiet hiss.
Lena stood there, her back to the now-empty room, her hands gripping the edge of the table so tightly that her knuckles turned white. Kara’s words echoed in her mind—I don’t know if I can ever forgive you.
Her heart ached, but there was no time to dwell on it. She knew what she had to do.
Later that night, Lena stared at the holographic blueprint of Lex’s latest project. It was a weapon, something catastrophic—something that only Lex would be arrogant enough to create. If it went unchecked, it would devastate not just National City, but the world.
Lena had always prided herself on being able to handle things on her own. She had fought Lex, her family's legacy, and the Luthor name for as long as she could remember. But this? This was different.
She had lost Kara’s trust. She had lost the person who had been her partner, her confidante, her best friend. And now, she was about to lose herself in this fight.
Because she was going to stop Lex. Alone.
Her fingers moved across the console, making the final adjustments to her plan. She knew it was dangerous—suicidal, even. But Kara had been right about one thing: the people who knew her secret, who stood by her side, were always at risk. And now Lena was the one who had to protect Kara, even if it meant sacrificing everything.
She couldn’t burden Kara with this. Not anymore. Not after everything they had been through.
Taking a deep breath, Lena steeled herself. She would do this, even if it meant her life. She would stop Lex.
Alone.

I’d like to emphasize these two moments:
Kara’s words to Lena are essential. It means that if she weren’t on Supergirl’s team, if she weren’t on Kara’s team, Kara would have likely given up in the Phantom Zone. And this thought is reinforced by her confession to Alex. As important as Alex and her friends are to her, Kara feels alone because they all have someone. Alex has Kelly, J’onn has M’gann, and Nia and Brainy have each other. Kara doesn’t have a special someone to go home to. And it would have been easier to give up knowing that everyone would be fine. But see, Lena wouldn’t be, because Lena is alone too. And I think Kara starts to understand that she’s not alone and that she actually has someone to go home to. And that someone is Lena Luthor.

Kara is on a first name basis with all her delivery people. She can’t help it. She’s a talker, and when one sees them as frequently as Kara does…
Okay, maybe she has a take-out problem.
But still, Kara’s easy to get along with. She tips well, and asks about the drivers’ days and families. It’s hard not to be drawn in by that kind of energy.
And at this point Lena knows that it shouldn’t surprise her that so many people love her girlfriend, but still when she answers the door one evening to an older woman with graying hair and a pizzeria t-shirt, Lena can’t help but be a little thrown.
“Oh, hello there! Where’s Kara?” The woman smiles up at Lena, juggling several boxes of pizza.
Lena looks at her, brows furrowed, before she catches sight of some change clipped next to the door with a sticky note labeled ‘For Bev.’
“She’s, uh, still in the shower. Just got off work,” Lena offers, grabbing the bills and turning the note towards the woman. “I’m guessing you’re Bev?”
“Oh, that girl is always so sweet to me.” A fond smile stretches across her face as she accepts the generous tip and hands over the pizza boxes. “And you must be Lena,” the woman says, with a chuckle and a knowing look, eyeing the NCU hoodie Lena had just stolen from Kara’s closet.
“How did you…”
“Oh Kara talks about you frequently. Glad to finally meet the woman who captured her heart.” Lena would almost class Bev’s smile as mischievous as she winks.
“O-oh. Uh—“ Lena stumbles over her words, as she readjusts the pizzas in her arms.
“Here,” Bev says, adding a container of garlic bread that Kara definitely didn’t order to the top of the pile. “You have a good night, hun, and tell Kara I said hi.”
Then the woman is gone, and Lena is left reeling from the exchange. Huh, she thinks. Kara talks about me to her pizza lady?

Ties that bind
read it here as a twitter fic
"You know, when you showed up at my door this morning I didn't wanna let you in." Kara's words are a soft vulnerable truth, but the weight of them lodges deep in Lena's chest.
She knows, had seen the inky lines of mistrust etched across Kara's face that morning when offering the beginnings of an apology and a plea to help stop Lex.
There's tension in the lines of Kara's shoulders and Lena's eyes get stuck there as she looks down at her feet and stacks her hands on her hips. Then they dissolve into silence.
Well why are you still here? Lena wants to ask. Why am I here? But the words feel heavy, hurt springing like blood on her tongue.
Guilt immediately rushes in, you stole from me, you convinced me to steal for you and you used kryptonite on me!! an echoing ring in her ears that instantly liquefies her resolve. Her jaw tenses and ticks, and she dips her head, shifting her eyes away from the otherworldly gravity that Kara's holds.
Kara lifts her head and her eyes fixate on Lena's as the silence stretches, a stormy sea of emotions churning in their blue depths. The intensity in them tenses Lena's spine and she folds her arms tightly across her chest like a physical shield from their direct assault. She doesn't recognize this look, hates the uncertainty as bitter indignation crowds her stomach and the words you betrayed me, you broke my heart lock with startling force behind her ribcage.
"Alex was right," Kara chuckles humorlessly, "I'm not rational when it comes to you. I think with my heart and not with my head."
"Funny, Lex said the same to me."
Kara's expression turns inscrutable, and Lena doesn't know if it's because of the mention of her brother or their similarities when it comes to dealing with each other. She figures it's a little of both.
"But…" Lena continues, swallowing her pride and the lump forming in her throat, "is that such a bad thing?"
Kara doesn't answer. Instead, she lets out a shallow breath, forehead crinkling like this conversation had already become too much. She had shut this conversation down one too many times when Lena had tried to broach it earlier. But damn if it doesn't make Lena want to crawl out of her own skin.
She'd thought they were making some progress, had felt the tentative stirrings of reconciliation as they'd worked together to stop Leviathan.
It's disconcerting that she can't get a read on Kara's eyes as she takes a step back, red boots scuffing against the floor. And Lena's heart aches at the physical distance like an ever widening chasm between them.
"On Krypton, trust was something sacred." Kara starts softly, inhaling a large gulp of air that draws Lena's eyes to the glyph on her chest. "We broke that in each other, we caused each other so much pain and -"
"Pain is a necessary part of life," Lena says hoarsely, the words quivering on her tongue. "I learned that the hard way when Non Nocere failed."
Another bout of silence falls over them and Lena uses it to turn away from Kara, gathering strength for what she's about to say next.
"So I get it. You don't have to trust me in order for us to keep working together."
"But I want to…" Kara answers immediately, and there's earnestness in the soft tremor of her voice. "you came through today at every opportunity and I - I'm not saying that you have to keep doing that but, I want to trust you, Lena. I want to let you in again."
Lena releases the breath she didn't realize she was holding, relief spreading like fissures across her heart, a warm hopeful balm in her veins as she squeezes her eyes shut.
"Kara," she breathes out, lips trembling as she forces out the word. A host of reasons why they shouldn't do this flashes through her mind, the biggest of them being that Lena didn't think that she deserved to hold on to the tentative reins of trust being offered.
She hears her take a step.
Then another.
And another.
Until Kara's pressed right against her, a comforting warmth at Lena's back that makes her heart tremble as those warm familiar hands land on her shoulders. The touch nearly makes Lena flinch. She doesn't know why it surprises her since Kara has always been the more tactile one between them. And her brain stalls in trying to furiously calculate exactly how long they've been apart.
Kara notices, of course she does. She breathes out shakily, hands drifting along the curve of Lena's shoulders and the small of her back.
Lena trembles at the feel of it, her touch starved body aching to be held in Kara's arms again. Because Kara is warmth and light and Lena still loves her with the inevitability of a new day and the gravity that binds them to each other.
Kara's touch is an irresistible force and Lena can't even find it within her to be angry that her defenses were practically nonexistent as the tension melts from her in seconds.
That warmth reaches all the way to her toes as those hands slide in a comforting press down the arch of her spine to settle lightly at her hips. Before Lena can think herself out of it, she turns, just to see her face as the desire to reach out, to touch, loosens the threaded beat of her anxious heart.
The hands on her hips bunches in Lena's blouse almost to the point of contention and she freezes, lifting her eyes to Kara's. This is the closest they've been in a while but the uncertainty in Kara's eyes is almost Lena's undoing. She allows herself a small conciliation, grasping onto the hands already clinging to her, as if that could somehow convey the mix of emotions thrumming inside her chest.
The wall between them all but falls away as Kara loosens one of her hands to reach out and cup her face. Lena leans readily into the contact and Kara's eyes soften, allowing her a glimpse of the woman she'd fallen in love with.
"How do I let you in again?" Kara asks, a shaky plea that loosens tears from her devastatingly attractive eyes. Lena wants to reach up and kiss them away, but her insecurities leave her rooted to the spot.
"Maybe you shouldn't," She answers truthfully, her doubts manifesting as those small broken words.
Kara's palm trembles against her cheek and Lena closes her eyes, moving to shift away. But Kara's other hand presses more insistently against her side, warming her through her clothes and Lena nearly chokes on her name, can't find her voice which gets lost somewhere in the trembling cry struggling to break free.
"I know I hurt you by not telling you my truth." Kara says, drawing Lena's eyes to hers. "And I'm sorry. I haven't had a lot of practice doing this. Growing up I was forced to hide my abilities because the people around me could get hurt and I - I know that's no excuse, but I hope -" Kara stops abruptly, lips trembling too much to continue.
And Lena doesn't want to talk about this anymore, can't talk about it without breaking down again. Her heart aches for Kara, for this woman born of different stars and the hardships she faced. So she closes the rest of the distance, folding herself into Kara's embrace.
"I'm so sorry you had to go through that." She whispers, tucking her face against Kara's neck as those warm arms go around her.
"Lena," the way that Kara says her name has never failed to make Lena's breath hitch. "I hope that one day you can forgive me."
Her trembling arms lock around Kara's shoulders, and Kara nuzzles against her hair, chest expanding as she breathes Lena in. Lena closes her eyes and oh, Kara's touch is grounding and these arms feel more like home than any place on earth ever could.
She doesn't expect the soft lingering kiss that Kara leans in and presses to her temple and the intimacy and affection of it shatters Lena's careful composure. Tears fills her eyes, tears that spill down her face as her breathing shortens and they don't have time for this, they have to stop Lex from whatever he's plotting, they have to -
But patient, gentle Kara frames her face between warm palms, tenderly brushing the tears away with the pad of her thumbs and the anchoring force of another kiss pressed sweetly against her skin.
Her kiss is light dawning in the darkness, darkness that rushes out from Lena's heart and flees from the crevices of her soul as Kara's kisses move across her temple and down to her eyebrows. She doesn't stop, pressing them in reverence across her eyelids, sweeping along the bridge of Lena's nose down to the apple of her cheeks, a sweet calming force that quiets Lena's mind.
It's new, this level of intimacy, the fact that they've never really used kisses for comforting each other in all of their years of friendship. Lena finds that she can't get enough of it, craves the press of Kara's warm mouth on her skin and can't believe that they've never done this before.
She flushes brightly when Kara tilts her chin with a hand covering her jaw to drop a kiss just below Lena's ear and stills long enough for Lena to reopen her eyes.
Kara's cheeks are a lovely red and Lena's eyes get stuck there, admiring their rosy hue. She doesn't know what expression her face forms as Kara moves back a little but they stare at each other, all heavy lidded eyes and soft breaths mingling in the short space between. The staring lengthens to the point where Lena feels like she's about to combust beneath the allure of those magnetic blue eyes.
So she moves in, drawn to Kara, softly touching their noses together. The action elicits a wobbly smile from Kara's pretty pink lips and Lena closes her eyes again, hands falling to grasp onto Kara’s suit clad biceps. Her nose skims across the rise of Kara's cheek, and down to her calming fluttering pulse, overwhelmed by the scent of peaches clinging to her skin.
One of Kara's hands finds her hip again, the other mindlessly tangling in Lena's hair and Lena can't think of a safer place than these arms as she absentmindedly noses along the slope of Kara's neck till the point where the supersuit starts. Her lips tingle where they accidentally meet warm skin and she draws back a little to intentionally press them lightly against the hollow of Kara's throat.
It's a bit concerning that she doesn't have the wherewithal to be mortified by her actions, but Kara's only reaction is a quiet breath against her ear.
So she does it again, soft, tentative.
This time Kara makes a tiny noise of encouragement that fills Lena with ardor and she wants to hear it again, has to hear it again. So she opens her mouth a little and scrapes her teeth along the corded muscles of Kara’s neck, feeling them flutter beneath the soft roll of her tongue. Kara's breathing turns heavy.
Lena delights at the response and the feeling of Kara's fingers tightening in her hair. She grows bolder with her kisses, moving back up Kara's neck and across the line of her jaw like a woman possessed.
This isn't something that best friends do. But right now they weren't even friends. And Lena's always been a little too in love with Kara to truly make her an enemy.
"Lena," Kara says, the name a soft aching sigh as Lena presses a litany of sweet kisses along Kara's soft reddened cheek, unable to stop or draw herself away as those fingers clench tighter in her hair.
Kara's breathing is a mess, and she closes her eyes as Lena carefully tucks a lock of blonde hair behind her ear, lips still pressed to soft warm skin.
"I'm sorry too." She whispers, soft, penitent. The tears come again, the shame at what she'd done a suffocating force as her lips tremble against Kara's skin, dangerously close to the corner of her mouth. "I hurt you and I know I can't make up for what I did but I promise, I'm going to try."
Kara's hand slips beneath the blouse that had loosened from where it had been tucked in her jeans and Lena's breath hitches as her warm hand lands on equally warm skin. She kisses Kara's cheek again, pressing closer, feels like they aren't truly close enough as she kisses her again and again.
Kara's lips catch the last kiss aimed for the corner of her mouth and her hand slides around to Lena's lower back, making Lena's heart flutter.
She doesn't lose stride, if anything, she's embolden, her silken mouth parting Lena's lips with a soft tremor. The kiss immediately deepens, no prelude, no hesitancy, only a soothing whisper of Lena's hands moving to tenderly frame Kara’s face and kisses as inevitable as freefall.
Kara's kisses are transcendental and Lena's mouth parts below hers as her thumbs sweep against the apple of Kara's cheeks, lips aching with apologies and promises.
The crest of the House of El presses tight against her chest and Lena presses a palm directly over it, a silent promise, a deep shuddering breath escaping her lips as Kara's second hand moves to join the other as they frame the dips on her lower back.
Lena's hands shift to tangle in the red cape on Kara's back as she kisses her with salt on her lips and forgiveness on her tongue. Kara's mouth trembles against hers, a reminder of the more difficult parts of the conversation still to come and a sweet tentative taste of the reconciliation awaiting them.

Okay, this hooked me a lot harder than I thought.
Truth? Crazy as it sounds, Time and Space have always been bending and warping together to kick our gay asses into gear so that we keep fighting for ourselves and our families till we're all truly free from bigotry and magic has returned to us in full.
On God Herself, Morgana turned evil because The CW disrespected Lena and Kara the same way that BBC disrespected Arthur and Merlin. It's no mistake that Katie played both Morgana and Lena. Now, they're all raging with Martha and Sylvia to keep our hearts rioting till we're free from the bullshittery of genocide. Forgive me, because I never finished Merlin and therefore have to google the connections to make sense of it all, but I promise you it works together.
Morgana (Harbinger of Chaos, one of the last remaining High Priestesses of the Triple Goddess) is a warning about the wrath of injustice and the betrayal of a friend whose path diverged from hers without warning
Merlin killing Morgana with Excalibur was literally like returning the sword to the stone, as her heart at that point was Frozen (pun intended, magic is magic, stay with me)
So, Morgana dies from Merlin's betrayal. Her magic and essence dissipate, as Matter cannot be created or destroyed, and my brain and its multiversal resurrection theories immediately jump to This
"When I came to this city, I promised myself I would never trust anyone again, and...then I met you. And you chipped away at my armor with your warmth and your earnestness, and you convinced me to trust in people, in friendship again, and against my better judgment, I did. All the while, warning you about my achilles heel: betrayal.
I confided in you that everyone in my past had betrayed me! About how much it hurts to have someone you love lie to you and betray you. I spelled it out to you over and over again. Begging you not to violate my trust, begging you not to prove that once again that I was a fool.
You reassured me ad nauseum that you would never lie to me, that you would never hurt me. And all the while, there wasn't a single honest moment in our friendship – "
"No, NO, that is NOT TRUE!"
"NO, I KILLED MY BROTHER FOR YOU, FOR OUR FRIENDS, DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'VE DONE?!"
What you've done...
Lena Luthor pours her heart out to her best friend, Kara Danvers, after a series of deep and disastrous betrayals that lead her to bring Merlin's fear for Morgana killing Arthur to life in Kara's name (not that we're surprised or disappointed in this case, I mean it is Lex). But this is Kara's doing. Not hers.
This is not something she cannot bear the weight of. This is what it feels like to lose everything.
Lena steals Myriad, a mind control device that carries loads of family trauma for Kara, because Lex uses his last breaths to tell her Kara is Supergirl after years of secrecy and now she wants to rid the world of harm by overriding and forcing everyone's brains to cooperate (believe me, Lena, I get you). After all, if even Kara can betray her, who can she possibly trust?
This all happens in none other than the Fortress of Solitude...which...
Emotional Isolation + Magic = Frozen = Water Is Memory (thanks Olaf, so sorry I don't have space for your gif)
Relevance?
1. Lena finds out in s6 that her mother was a witch and she can weild magic, but her scientific nature and disconnect from her mother leads her to fear using it. In a fear-induced vision during a s6 episode that was thematically linked to COVID, Lena sees her mother as a Kelpie, a celtic water spirit similar to the Nokk (water horse) in Frozen.
2. Morgana and the essence of her magic remember the feeling of betrayal well. They did even before Andrea (first bff), Lex (brother), Lillian (mother), Eve (assistant/confidant), and everyone else betrayed Lena. It's the one thing Lena has always been most afraid of and a strong indicator of past life trauma.
Now, deep down, Merlin's betrayal of Morgana was to protect Arthur because, well, yeah...
Meanwhile, Kara - much like our young king as he reassures his "best friend" that magic is not inherently evil because Merlin is not evil - devolves into desperation in the aftermath of Lena's betrayal as she realizes that, while she supposedly kept her secret from Lena to protect her and their friends and family, she's now realized she's losing the most important member of hers because of that secret, and Lena still thinks it's because she's a Luthor (fuck you, heteronormativity)

Lots of screamworthy injustice follows. Nightmares full of "just like I would any other villain" and "you are a monster. But that doesn’t mean i have to be one, too." Reconciliation is a bitch, but it happens.
But then, THEN, we have the peak of Supercorp's bullshittery exactly 9 years after Merlin and Arthur's show ends (9 is the number of completion in Numerology btw, whis is like magic and math combined) and just as Supercorp's is starting to wind down with only 7 eps left in the series, Kara and Lena give us the Iconic™️ 6x13 quote of
"Do you really not believe in Magic?"
"...I believe in you."
Which leads me and my incessant brain to these gems

Hmm, sounds a lot like Lena being afraid of losing Kara to betrayal...and yet

The Gays always come around

Now, similar to Arthur and Merlin, this is after Lena finds out Kara is Supergirl, after they have a huge falling out, and after they come back together.
HOWEVER. The conversation in 6x13 is flipped. In 6x01 (I know what's in your heart), Lena has lost so much faith and confidence in herself that her Goodness is lost on her and she feels she needs Kara to guide her (if I have to hear Lena's post-"evil"-breakdown of "you can yell at me if you'd like, I know I deserve it" on repeat one more time, my head is going to take a permanent leave from my shoulders).
Imagine Lena's fear of her own abilities by 6x13 after "almost becoming a villian" because the CW can't produce good writing for shit combined with Morgana's knowledge that her last betrayal got her killed, but with the feeling that this one has led to her being pieced back together even stronger.
She's a literal supergenius scientist with Morgana's latent magical power. Talk about dangerous...
And now, this belief Lena has in Kara despite her betrayal is how we know God is a Dangerous Woman (thanks Ari). Because, on review, the Big Picture leads up to this absolutely insane phenomen (described as briefly as possible):
There's 1x13, For the Girl Who Has Everything, where Kara is under the influence of the Black Mercy and has to choose between staying in a dreamt-up illusion of Krypton where it never died and returning to her life on earth as both a confused and lost human and newly developed Supergirl (mind you, s1 was on NBC, so they really set the stage for Kara's grapple with humanity without them or the CW even knowing it). It's torture to watch, but her sister Alex brings her home.
2x13, Mr. & Mrs, Mxyzptlk, where a 5th dimensional imp with unmatched magical power, Mxy, tries to force Kara to marry him while Lena is offscreen because the CW hadn't actually planned to make her a permanent member of the series until Supercorp's chemistry took off, so they had to write her in elsewhere. Kara deals with the classic patriarchal heteronormative male bullshit her then-toxicly-jealous-boyfriend, Mon-El, so aptly disgraces us with on her own, and both Mxy and Mon-El face her cold wrath as she advocates for her needs and boundaries.
3x13, Both Sides Now, where Kara is trying to save Julia Freeman, aka Purity, and Lena finds out her second oldest friend, Sam Arias, is unknowingly hosting Reign - both of whom are Kryptonian Worldkillers buried in Julia and Sam's Subconscious. Their efforts and struggles to maintain the humanity in Julia and Sam are disjointed and unknown to each other because Lena still has no clue Kara is Supergirl.
4x13, What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?, where The Elite (a merry band of rogues) are targeting Agent/The Children of Liberty (a crusader and his group of anti-Alien terrorists). Aliens and Humans are fighting to coexist, and Kara is trying to maintain the balance. Meanwhile, Lena is learning to trust and work with Alex, who also doesn't know Kara is Supergirl at this point due to J'onn mind-wiping her to protect both of them from the clearly corrupt government as Alex defies their attempts at gaining control over the DEO and its mission.
5x13, It's a Super Life, where my brain eats itself alive as Kara travels dimensions with none other than Mxyzptlk to undo her mistakes with Lena and rewrite their friendship by telling her The Secret before Lex can. Only to find out everyone dies the other ways and the world falls to ruin if they never become friends. Shocker. So, the woman who watched her planet die and spent over a decade in a tiny pod floating through a timeless wasteland concludes this experience as the most emotionally draining of her life, and Mxy ends the episode talking about loneliness and love and friendship with the famous line "that magic...it can't be forced. It has to be found."
And finally, 6x13, The Gauntlet, where Lena is figuring out how to tell Kara about her recently discovered magical roots and come to terms with them herself as Kara embarks on a test of courage to gain control of the Courage Totem which ANOTHER 5th dimensional imp, Nyxlygsptlnz (Nyxly), is trying to master and reunite with the other 6 AllStone totems to obtain ultimate power over all creation: energy, matter, magic, and even life and death.
So, to recap, we have a fateful choice between False Dreams and Painful Reality in 2016; a personal rebellion against Patriarchal Force and Heteronormativity in 2017; two separate efforts to protect the planet from rogue Harbingers of Chaos and Death by appealing to their Inner Humanity in 2018; a national Crisis of Humanity coinciding with personal Crises of Self-Discovery through Defiance of Personal and Government Corruption in 2019; a Time Traveling nightmare confirming Quantum Entanglement and the Star-Crossed Lovers trope in all ways BUT canon in 2020; and a shared journey through finding Mutual Courage and Support in the person who most deeply betrayed them in 2021.
Not to mention the parallels/dichtomies on the journey from "having everything" (Arthur and his royalty, Kara and her powers); to a massive personal change motivated by claims of destiny and magic (Merlin's arrival in Arthur's life, Kara's triumph over magical attempts at forced connection); to looking at it from "both sides now" (Merlin and Arthur being complete opposites working together, Kara and Lena having similar approaches but with separate efforts); to Truth, Justice, and (theoretically) Freedom through uniting against a common enemy (Merlin choosing Arthur over Morgana, Lena choosing Kara over Lex); to reflecting on life choices and debating altering history (Arthur resurrecting Uther, Kara traveling through time to save her friendship with Lena); all culminating in a Gauntlet of Courage (coming together to save the worlds they've built and protected together).
The synchronicity with our own bullshit as a world is truly unreal, let alone the ways magic syncs up across other worlds. My brain is still processing, but it makes a sick amount of sense that the star-crossed lovers would be gay and this world would be too blind to see it, in the same way it's too blind to see that we're repeating history every day.
Now we could stop there and say yeah, yeah its all the same, but it gets better.
Because, thanks to a glimpse into the future in Supergirl's finale, we have the Lena Luthor Foundation, which Lena unveils as Kara catches her eye from where she floats in the sky to watch from above. I've officially died in this moment because I've reached the 10-photo max and can't fit the pic of Morgana's Rowan Tree, but listen: it's the world's greatest Easter Egg.

Same Tree, Same Magic, Same Love.
If the tree isn't enough with the (possibly intentional) whole 13th episode thing on their own, you should also know:
A 2023 series called Mayfair Witches, based on Anne Rice's series of the same name, is about a baby who is stolen from her comatose mother and raised by her conservative, magic-fearing, secretive family. This is almost exactly what happens with Lena and the Luthors. The baby's name just so happens to be Rowan (yes, like the tree, what a CO-INCIDINCE).
She's a neurosurgeon and also the 13th witch in the Mayfair line. So, Rowan (like Lena), grows up not knowing who she is or who her mother is or that she has magic. When she discovers her magic, it's tied to a spirit, Lasher, who is destined to be reborn as her child. She defies her family, falls in love with her protector, Ciprien, and gets pregnant with Lasher.
How is this relevant, you ask? Well, my friends. Rowan is white. Ciprien is black. And if you can't yet tell why that matters, here's our Final Word (copied from a video transcript on a post I reblogged earlier but can't attach the video for bc Tumblr):
https://www.tumblr.com/mrs-bartowski/742141345802665984?source=share
First person:
"Black people are treated like a sexuality. And I do not-"
Video cuts to second person:
"See, I actually like this video. And I think I got a explanation for you.
The reason that blackness almost acts as a sexuality is because antiblackness is something that is so innate in the minds of nonblack people when growing up, that them preferring not to date someone who is black is almost as normal as them preferring not to date someone who isn’t their preferred sex.
Did y’all follow that? Like, let me give you an example. Like, a straight white male saying that they don’t date black girls is just as normal in society as a straight white male saying that they don’t date boys. And straight white women saying that they don’t date black boys was almost as normal as them saying they don’t date women. And granted, that example might not be as prevalent as the last one, but still.
And I know in both of those examples, they were white, but it applies with nonblack POC too. And to add a little bit of intersectionality, let’s be honest, it probably applies to some black men, too. And that’s a shame, that we would treat our own women similarly to that of a sex we don’t prefer.
Oh, I just thought of something! Antiblackness is something that is so innate in the minds of nonblack people that they would almost have to come out! Come out! And say that they like black people. It’s like homophobia was so innate that you would have to come out and say you’re homosexual.
That’s the one. I’m not even gonna lie, that’s the one."
And you know what? It is The One. Our struggles have always been the same. And if this isn't roundabout proof for anyone who hasn't yet seen how deeply intersectional and interconnected our struggles are, I encourage you to dig deeper.
Palestinian genocide in Gaza is no different than the genocide of magic-users in Camelot. Their stories are just as real as ours, and our support is vital to their survival.
In fact, it's quite the same struggle for all of us. Monotheism and the wars it has created over what eventually amounts to inconsequential differences in theology continue to suffocate and divide this world. Uniting against those differences and making peace with our infinite systems of belief is the only way we Live and Breathe Again.
The Christian Crusades killed Magic. Islamic and Christian radicals sent it Raging with War. But Jewish genocide in Palestine has Awoken its determination to put an end to our suffering and unite us - as humans and everything beyond us - once and for all.
Yes, there are many people who know little of any of this and continue to live in the dark. It was honestly a trigger for me to see a post with someone minimizing genocide with the nightmares in Gaza, so this post is literally the only thing I've been able to focus on today. Desensitization to others' struggles is learned, but it can also be unlearned.
Seeing these connections is your chance to meet them with hope. Most people don't pay attention because they feel overwhelmed by the reality of Chaos in this world. It seems a poor excuse to those who can't afford to turn a blind eye, but I can't say I haven't felt it myself. That seeing it all every day doesn't tear me apart.
But we are all born from Chaos. Chaos is Darkness. Darkness is the home of The Unknown. And The Unknown is the Home of the Bridge between Science, Art, and Magic.
As the unknowns of our world becomes less and less, as our connections and collaborations as a people and world grow and places like Tumblr and TikTok and Twitter come together (yes, against all odds, considering most people on here do have all 3 whether you use them or not) to bridge gaps and share stories and traditions and dances and ideas and experiences, the fear of that darkness starts to dissolve. The less of each other we fear, the stronger we are. And that's what El Mayarah is all about.
TLDR; Katie McGrath and her brilliant Irish mind dropped the seed of Morgana's Rowan tree into our magic-deprived brains as a reminder of the perpetual systemic injustices (real-world and magical) that are still possible to overcome. The ripple effect can be seen in all art, and it's always interconnected.
Right now, we're all dealing with and healing from the consequences of the senseless divisions that have rippled through our lives and all the stories we know and love by restoring their connections and making it all make sense with art, which we share to build even more connections with each other. Learning to love each other's art even when we don't understand it by finding the human connection within is the first step to true peace. Even the fandoms you hate, even (and especially) the problematic shit. Art is life, and we're all just trying to make sense of it. Lack of access to other perspectives is the only thing that has ever really divided us. We're already changing that. We just need to make space for the opportunity to learn.
Shoutout to all our tumblr fandoms for seeing and saving the worlds through art. Keep going. Bring the connections between that art and the real world to life. We can all heal. It just has to be together.
From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will be Free 🇵🇸
The fact that Merlin was such a huge thing despite having of one the worst plots ever really goes to show just how important actors are . Seriously do people actually remember the plot ? The entire plot was : “
The King is a tyrant that is literally committing genocide against magical people . Our hero the wizard Merlin must protect this tyrannical King because ….. the prince is supposed to become a great king but he needs some time to live ,love and laugh before he becomes king . There was something inherently unnerving in Superman staring at her, Lena decided. She could *feel* the weight of his gaze on her. If she hadn’t know better, she would have thought that he was trying to steal glances at her. Of course, there was the matter of Lois Lane and all that, and Lena was assuredly not his type. She was, after all, a Luthor.
But he kept staring.
Lena listened to the mission briefing, feeling a bit detached. Her work here was done; she’d worked out the math and it was up to Kara and her cousin to push the asteroid just so, to return it to its proper orbit and send it on its merry way.
It was routine, if two people with godlike powers pushing millions of tons of rock through space could be said to be normal.
There was only one problem.
Clark.
Kept.
Staring.
Lena looked away from him, then slipped out of the room, looking up at the sky. She could see the offending space rock just barely, and extended her arm, covering it with her thumb, one eye pinched shut.
“Hey.”
Kara was in the doorway, not quite emerging onto the balcony. She’d suited up in her space suit, a new design of Lena’s that outfitted her in a stark white with a glowing amber light behind the red-gold frame of her family crest. Lena was proud of her work. It carried a sufficient air supply and was shielded against radiation, just on the off chance they Kara met something up there that bypassed her immunities.
Kara had her helmet tucked under one arm and her hair up on a tight bun, and she looked absolutely dashing. Lena couldn’t help but grin like a big kid, as worried as she was.
“Hey.”
“Hey yourself,” said Lena. “You look good in that.”
“Of course I do, you made it,” said Kara.
She broke across the balcony in three quick strides, and from the way she canted her head, Lena thought it might finally happen. She might crack that last barrier and press her soft lips to Lena’s, stealing some luck to take with her, and stealing Lena’s breath away.
Kara had stolen her heart years ago.
She didn’t, though. Rather than a hug, she ducked down and brushed her forehead lightly against Lena’s, before quickly pulling back.
“Come right back,” said Lena.
“You know it,” said Kara. “Want me to bring you something from my trip?”
“Just come back safe.”
Kara grinned her cocky grin and offered Lena a little salute.
“It’s time,” Clark said, from the doorway. Lena hadn’t even noticed his presence.
He was staring at both of them, now. Lena turned away. The pair stepped back inside, Clark speaking to Kara in clipped, rapid Kryptonese. Lena couldn’t parse it quickly enough, but she made out something about scents.
The mission was not routine.
Lena’s work was perfect. The data was not. Lena white knuckled the railing in her hands as the asteroid drifted down, skimming the Earth’s atmosphere and carving out a channel of unbound flame.
Alex was frantically demanding a status update, but neither Kryptonian answered her. There was only static. Lena watched the control room monitors, and her hands felt as cold as the steel they grasped. She felt utterly numb, on the verge of screaming.
Then the speakers crackled. It was Kara.
“I’m sorry, Lena,” Kara rasped out. “I made a mess of your suit.”
They landed a few minutes later. Kara was the worse for wear, with some of the reinforced plating melted off on her left side. She spun a harrowing tale of struggling to correct the rock’s course, Clark nodding along silently beside her. Lena locked eyes with Kara and let out a slow, agonized breath. She was okay. She was okay this time.
She’d always be okay. Right up until she wasn’t.
After, when Kara had been pried out of her suit, with her cousin’s help, and changed into a hoodie and leggings, she attacked the buffet that was laid out for the two of them in the cafeteria. Shoving around celestial bodies in as hungry work.
When Lena turned and saw Superman staring at her again, she decided she’d had enough and squared up to him.
“Okay, farmboy. Out with it. Why do you keep staring at me?”
“I was waiting for Kara to say something,” he said, “but I guess she’s too shy or she’s worried about what I’ll think. It’s okay with me if you two are together. I don’t hold your name against you.”
Lena’s brain about leaked out of her ears.
“Together?”
“Of course. I noticed earlier that her heartbeat synchronizes to yours whenever you’re in the room, and of course she’s been scent marking you.”
“She’s been what?”
Clark shifted on his feet, either from her tone or her expression or both. He looked strangely young.
“Oh, uh, I see. Anyway I need to get going, long flight back to Metropolis.”
Lena barely noticed him leaving. She stood in the same spot far too long, staring at the refrigerator. She was still standing there when Kara came up alongside her.
“Hey.”
Of course, she was devastating. Kara was in black leggings and a threadbare hoodie that was actually Lena’s, and padding around the place barefoot. Her golden tresses spilled around her shoulders in loose waves, held back by her glasses. The dashing bravado was gone and she was soft, warm, equally lovely Kara again.
“You scared me up there,” said Lena.
“You kept me safe with your suit. You always do.”
Lena looked Kara in the eye. Kara had the most lovely eyes, a gorgeous deep blue that could be as heavy as winter storm or as light as a summer breeze
“I heard what Clark said.”
Lena swallowed, her throat suddenly dry.
“He caught me red handed,” Kara added.
Lena wondered if she should laugh it off, or make a joke. Kara smiled, pulling her gaze away in a slightly embarrassed way, her cheeks turning a rosy pink.
“Does Kryptonian scent marking mean what I’m guessing it means?”
“It, um, it does.”
“This is how humans do it,” Lena whispered, diving headlong into Kara’s space.
She ducked just a little, tilting her head back, and Kara read her intentions perfectly. Their lips came together, and their first kiss was quick and soft, a promise for later, when there would be only fairy lights and Kara’s couch and soft, eager explorations full of slow, desperate intensity.
For now, Kara simply took Lena’s hands in her own, and very gently nuzzled her nose against Lena’s, breath ticking her lips.
“Take me home, space cowgirl,” said Lena.

Lena has her theories. Like a good scientist, she devises “scientific” experiments to collect data…it’s just convenient this is more exhilarating than outright asking the question to the appropriate person: is Kara Danvers a boob or an ass girl?
Let it be known, this popped into my mind because of your reblog of Supergirl daydreaming about Lena in the throes of passion (likely by Kara’s own doing 😉💋)
okay first, we have to admit that the creator of that post blessed us all. second, this was hilarious to write. I had so much fun. here you go:
It's for Science (Supercorp)
by marinawolf
Lena Luthor, the scientific genius and CEO of L-Corp and Catco, found herself embroiled in a daring experiment. The subject? Her best friend and secret crush, Kara Danvers. Lena was determined to discover one crucial piece of information: was Kara a boob or an ass girl?
Of course, Lena couldn't just outright ask Kara about her preferences. No, that would be far too direct and potentially awkward. Instead, she decided to employ her scientific mind to devise a series of "experiments" to collect data and draw her conclusions.
It all started innocently enough. Lena strategically chose her outfits, opting for outfits that accentuated her assets. She made sure to occasionally drop something in front of Kara, bending down slowly to retrieve the item. Lena even went so far as to discreetly unbutton the top of her shirt, providing a subtle glimpse of cleavage whenever she was around Kara. For science, of course.
But Kara, being Kara, was oblivious to Lena's attempts. Lena had, however, garnered the attention of many others in her office, who were captivated by her attempts, much to her dismay. However, Lena was determined to provoke a reaction from her friend, and she wasn't about to give up.
One day, during a lunch break at CatCo, Lena brought in an array of donuts. She strategically placed a tray of donuts right in front of Kara, leaning over Kara's desk, giving her a full view down her unbuttoned shirt. Lena's heart raced as she watched Kara's eyes widen with delight at the sight of the delicious treats.
Lena waited with bated breath, hoping for a telling reaction.
To Lena's dismay, Kara simply reached for a chocolate-covered donut without a second thought. Lena tried to hide her disappointment.
Later, at the DEO, after Lena had "dropped" her pen in front of Kara, Alex sidled up to her, sipping a coffee.
"Why are you bending down like a stripper in front of my sister? That's like the third time tonight."
Lena flushed her mind suddenly unable to formulate an explanation.
"Don't worry," Alex continued, laughing, "She notices. The first time, she actually walked into a glass wall. Luckily it was reinforced, so it didn't shatter"
Lena's heart leapt but still, she wasn't convinced. She hadn't seen Kara react at all, and as a scientist, she needed to see her results first hand to believe it.
But she refused to give up. She couldn't let a few failed experiments deter her from her quest for knowledge. It was for science, and she was committed to science.
It was during a cozy movie night at Lena's penthouse that she decided to execute her most daring experiment yet. As they settled onto the couch, Lena discreetly unbuttoned her shirt, exposing a tantalizing hint of cleavage. She observed Kara out of the corner of her eye, trying to gauge her reaction without being too obvious.
To her delight, Lena noticed Kara stealing glances her way throughout the movie. The sight of Kara's eyes lingering on her filled Lena's heart with a mixture of excitement and nervous anticipation. Perhaps her experiment was indeed yielding results.
As the movie progressed, Lena's heart raced, waiting for the perfect opportunity to reveal itself. She couldn't concentrate on the film, her mind consumed by the thrilling prospect of finally getting an answer to her burning question.
Just when Lena thought she couldn't wait any longer, Kara's hand brushed against hers in the darkness of the room. The touch sent a jolt of electricity through Lena's veins, and she turned to look at Kara, their eyes locking in an intense gaze.
Without a moment's hesitation, Kara leaned in and pressed her lips against Lena's, kissing her with a desperate longing that took Lena by surprise. The intensity of the moment left them breathless as they finally broke apart, their foreheads resting against each other.
"I've been dying to do that all week," Kara admitted, her voice filled with a mix of desire and relief.
Lena's heart fluttered, her experiment having unexpectedly led her to this extraordinary outcome.
But still, she didn't know: Was Kara a boob or an ass girl?
--
Months later, as Lena lay in bed, her arms wrapped around a sleepy Kara, she finally asked the question.
And Kara's response made her heart flutter.
"I'm a you girl."

I Wish it Was Me...
She sighs, leaning against the balcony railing and staring blankly into the deep midnight sky as she swirls the rich amber liquid in her crystal tumbler. Her eyes have been scanning the horizon for an unknown amount of time, replaying the evening in her mind.
A part of her feels guilty for leaving so abruptly, but she couldn’t sit there and watch her smile and laugh at him any longer. She knew they were friends, but she didn’t realize they were that close. Intellectually, she knows she shouldn’t feel this way, but tell that to her heart. Plus, why him? Sure, William is an okay guy, but he’s just…boring. She shakes her head, blowing out a huff of frustration as she swallows the remains of the numbing elixir. The last dregs of her second glass of scotch go down more smoothly than the first.
Releasing yet another defeated sigh, she tries to massage the brewing headache from her temples. She purposely didn’t drink at the bar because she planned on bringing Kara back to hers tonight, planning to finally tell the blonde how she feels. Her eyes close and the scene from the bar rudely reminds her of her place in Kara’s life. Again. Not that she isn’t acutely aware of living in the friend-zone for years. She just wishes her heart would get the memo. Her traitorous brain wanders again.
Meeting her friends at the bar has become a common occurrence for Lena. It’s an almost weekly affair, every Friday they meet up at Al’s for happy hour, dancing, pool, and catching up on the happenings of all their lives outside their superhero antics. Recently, these nights have ended with Lena snuggled in Kara’s arms at either of their apartments. They usually end up going to brunch the next morning and spending most of their weekends together. While she realizes she should put an end to it before she obliterates her own heart, she’s not known for her self-preservation. So, she just continues to be gluttonous for the punishment she knows is coming. Maybe the punishment just arrived in the form of one William Dey.
The scene keeps playing over and over. Torturing her barely beating heart.
As she walks into the familiar bar, she’s greeted with a series of hellos and waves, but the one that nearly stops her in her tracks is the wide, toothy, cock-eyed smile from her best friend. She thought after 6 years of near daily doses of that smile that it wouldn’t steal her breath and release an entire zoo of butterflies in her stomach. Nonetheless, here she stands, still suffering from both. She feels the heat rush to her cheeks and desperately hopes the dimness of the bar hides it well. Her steps falter when she sees William parked in her chair next to Kara. A sick feeling settles into the pit of her stomach. Attempting to keep her composure, she takes the empty seat next to Nia and across the table from the blonde. When she makes eye contact with Alex, it becomes clear that she didn’t cover her reaction as well as she’d hoped, the telling smirk on the elder Danvers face all the evidence she needs. She rolls her eyes at the redhead and lets her eyes settle on Kara again, barely containing the scowl begging to display itself on her face.
Everyone quickly falls into their usual conversations, Lena does her best to keep her eyes trained on whomever she’s talking to, but every time Kara laughs or giggles at something William says it pulls her attention away. Each time her eyes fall on the two of them, her chest tightens, her stomach ties itself further into knots, and a lump works its way into her throat. Eventually, Nia drags her onto the dance floor, obviously attempting to distract her from her pathetic pining and barely contained jealousy.
“You should just tell her, you know.” Nia states bluntly, an affectionate smile gracing her lips. “I promise you, Lena, she doesn’t want him.” They both glance over to the table where the two people in question are throwing their heads back in laughter.
Lena scoffs, her nose scrunching and lip lifting in a scowl of disbelief and disgust. “Really? Tell that to both of their faces and body language, Nia.” She rolls her eyes and turns her back to the table, unable to bear watching them any longer. “Besides, why the hell would I tell her now? She’s obviously either dating him or will be soon. I can’t risk our friendship now.”
Nia rolls her eyes, these two idiots are more oblivious than she initially thought. For a couple of geniuses, these two are dumb. “She feels the same way, Lena. I’m guessing she’s more afraid than you are after your last falling out.” She watches as Kara’s eyes flit over to them, a crinkle of concern adorning her face and her head tilting like she’s listening to something. She rolls her eyes again as she wonders if these two will ever figure their shit out. “She keeps looking over here at you. My guess is she can hear your heart rate spike.”
Lena’s heart sinks, she still forgets that Kara can hear her heartbeat and it makes her feel even more anxious than before. She realizes at that moment that she needs to leave, there’s no way she can spend the rest of the night watching the two of them together. In her panic, she manages to ramble out, “I can’t do this. I need to go, Nia. Tell everyone I said good night.”
Without waiting for a response, she bolts for the door, putting as much distance between William, his distractingly white teeth, and his annoying accent as possible.
Shaking away the thoughts in an attempt to erase her evening, she heads back inside to refill her glass. She tops it off and makes her way back out into the breezy evening, retaking her place against the railing. It’s clear to her now that she is going to have to find a way to move on from the blonde. It figures that when she finally gets the guts to confess her love for her best friend, she starts dating someone else. She sighs, again. It’s her own fault, really. As confident as she is in many aspects of her professional life, when it comes to anything personal, she’s a fucking coward. Now she’s going to live the rest of her life regretting being such a goddamn scaredy cat. She growls as she knocks back her third glass of scotch for the evening, starting to feel the effects swimming through her veins.
Just as she is about to make her way back inside for the night, the sound of a familiar voice calling her name startles her so harshly that her fingers release the tumbler. All she can do is watch it make its descent toward the cement. The anticipated shattering of glass never happens though. Kara’s deft reflexes capture the highball before impact and sets it on the glass top table sitting next to the open balcony door.
“I’m sorry, Lena. I didn’t mean to scare you.” Kara says with a crinkle between her eyes. She pauses to look at the raven haired woman standing close to the door, her hand resting over her heart and a wide-eyed, dazed look on her face. “You left the bar so quickly and without saying goodbye. Then you didn’t respond to my texts. I was worried. Are you okay?”
The injection of adrenaline coupled with the three glasses of scotch give Lena a sudden surge of confidence. “I’m fine, Kara. You seemed to be enjoying your time with William so I didn’t want to interrupt just to tell you I was leaving.” She grabs the glass off the table and stalks back into the penthouse without saying another word, fully expecting the blonde to follow.
And she does, Kara follows closely behind her, stopping on the other side of the island as Lena washes and dries the highball, placing it back in its place. Leaning against the counter across from her best friend, she raises her signature brow in question, making Kara shift nervously. Her shifting movement secretly makes Lena giddy, even if she won’t admit it.
“A-are y-you sure you’re o-okay?” She stutters, unsure what to make of Lena’s demeanor, her sudden aloofness. “We always spend Friday night together and have brunch on Saturday. Y-you left without me.” She pouts, trying her best to stay put instead of running to Lena’s side.
“As cozy and close as you two were, I figured you’d spend the evening with William. Have brunch with him instead.” Lena scoffs. She shifts her eyes down to her nails, picking at a non-existent hangnail. “I didn’t realize you had become so…close. Also thought you would have told me that you were dating him. Best friend privileges and all.” Waving her hand as nonchalantly as she can, a deep frown settles onto her face, no longer able to contain the sadness.
“Lena…wh-what are you talking about?” A look of bewilderment and utter confusion sits on her face as blue eyes scan glassy green. “W-William and I aren’t dating. We’re just friends. W-why would you think we’re dating?” Her face scrunches and her head tilts, cerulean eyes still focused on her favorite green.
Lena blows out a raspberry of frustration, unsure how to put her current emotions into words. “Kara, anyone that was around you or saw you tonight would have assumed the same thing. The smiles, the laughter…the touching.” She scowls again as she barely whispers, “He was sitting in my seat.” Barely able to hold back the tears stinging her eyes, she pushes herself off the counter and heads toward her bedroom. Not only needing distance, but to change into her pajamas.
Kara follows her into the walk-in closet, uncertain where the conversation is going and why Lena is so upset, but definitely determined to figure it out. “I’m sorry, Lena. I-I, um, planned on shooing him out of your seat. I even told him he would have to move when you got there. Then you sat next to Nia and seemed like you were having fun so I figured you were okay with it.” She nervously rubs her hand along the back of her neck, biting her lip in worry.
She dips her head, sighing as her hands reach out for Lena only to drop back to her side, unsure of whether it’s okay to touch the skittish woman in front of her. Still, she takes a few steps closer before softly speaking. “Um, I missed having you next to me. I like being close to you. When you went to dance, I kept hearing your heart rate spike, but I looked back over again and you were gone.” She pleads with her favorite person, eyes boring into raven locks. “Please talk to me, Lena.”
Lena pauses, her hands fidget with the joggers and t-shirt she pulled out of her drawer while she attempts to gather her swirling emotions. Her head and shoulders slump forward and she releases a quiet sniffle, the tears that were stinging her eyes slowly begin to fall. Trying to channel the remaining adrenaline in her system, she takes a shaky breath and turns to face the woman she has been in love with for years. “You don’t get it?!” She pushes the drawer closed and angrily stalks out of the closet toward the ensuite, leaving a startled and fish-mouthed blonde in her wake.
Tripping over her feet to catch up, Kara stumbles into the bathroom to an eyeful of her half-undressed best friend. Her eyes immediately dart to the ceiling and her cheeks turn a rosy, heated shade of pink. “I d-don’t understand, Lena. Did I do something wrong?” Her head tilts like a confused puppy as her eyes migrate back down to a still partially dressed Lena. Blue eyes freeze on the sheer expanse of exposed ivory skin as her mouth runs dry and she swallows audibly. “I, um, want to, uh…” Her words trail off as her eyes roam, mentally caressing every full curve and every ounce of exposed soft skin.
Some of Lena’s ire simmers when she catches Kara essentially ogling her nearly naked torso. She’s still frustrated and the tears are still flowing, but the way those darkened blue eyes are combing over her body ignites something decidedly different. She shakes her head, needing to get herself together for the conversation that is coming. She turns away from the blonde’s roving eyes to drop her bra and pull the t-shirt over her head.
Crossing her arms and leaning against the counter, she levels fiery green eyes at Kara. “You want to… what, Kara?” A perfectly sculpted dark brow raises, a silent question that causes the blonde to gulp. “You stopped in the middle of your sentence to ogle me. Are you going to finish what you were saying?”
“I was – I di –” She blows out an exasperated breath, realizing she has no excuse. “I’m sorry. That was inappropriate. I was going to say I want to fix whatever it is, but maybe I should just go. I’ve obviously upset you and made you uncomfortable.” She blinks owlishly, trying hard to prevent the welling tears from falling.
Lena starts to panic. She doesn’t want Kara to leave, that’s the last thing she wants. “No, please. Don’t leave.” She blurts out, reaching for the blonde’s muscular forearm, stopping her movement. “C-can we just get ready for bed and then talk? Please.”
Kara nods her head and heads out of the bathroom to grab the pajamas she keeps at the apartment. Once they’re both changed, their teeth brushed, and faces washed, they stand in front of Lena’s bed in awkward silence. Normally they would crawl under the covers together and curl into each other with a movie or documentary playing in the background. Right now, neither of them know how to broach the ginormous elephant hanging out in the corner.
Finally, Lena sighs and drags them both into the bed, crawling up toward the headboard. They both sit with their backs leaning back against the frame, pillows propped behind them. She twists her fingers together, a long held habit that still surfaces when she’s anxious. “I’m not used to having to share you with anyone else.” Lena says, barely audible, but she knows Kara hears her. “When I saw William in my seat and…saw him touching you, I just – I was jealous.” Her voice tapers off on the last word and her cheeks heat, flushing a deep red at her admittance.
Kara’s eyes go wide. She can hardly believe what she’s hearing. Lena is jealous? Of William? Why would she be jealous? Wait…her head whips to the side to look at her best friend. She can’t help but grin at the blush adorning pale skin. She does her best to stifle it, but to no avail. “You’re jealous of William? Lena, he and I are just friends.” She reaches out to stop the twisting and fidgeting of Lena’s hands, placing her palm over them. “This feels like more than that. Do you want to tell me what’s really going on? Please.“
“Tonight was supposed to be special. I-I wanted to tell you something important.” Her eyes sting with tears again, she pulls her hands away from Kara’s wiping tears away in frustration. “When I saw you with him, it, well, it upset me because... because I wish it was me.” She sighs, her hands twisting nervously again.
The room gets eerily quiet, nothing can be heard but Lena’s rapidly increasing breaths. She waits for what feels like hours, likely only seconds, before she looks up to see teary blue eyes staring back at her. She immediately panics, thinking that she has ruined their friendship. Her tears start falling and she starts getting up. Maybe she'll pack up and move to the U.K.
Just as she begins pushing herself off the bed, Kara’s hands pull her back. She still keeps her eyes glued to her own hands, desperately avoiding the blues of the woman she just confessed to loving. She wants to avoid seeing the rejection she’s sure is coming.
Warm fingers settle under her chin, gently lifting until teary azure meets watery green. Instead of the rejection she anticipated, she sees soft affection. They smile, tears streaming down both their cheeks.
“You thought I was dating William and you wished it was you?” Kara asks, her voice laced with hope. “You, you would want that? To be with me like that?” Hopeful, watery blue eyes stare into anxious, yet hopeful green.
“Yeah. Y-Yes.” Lena nods in confirmation, a look of determination firmly on her face. “Of course, I want to be with you. Why wouldn’t I? Darling, of course I wish it was me.” She lets out a wet laugh, unsure how her night started so horribly and has ended like this.
Kara leans forward, pressing their foreheads together as her own wet laugh escapes. “I wish it was you, too.” Her hands lightly rest on Lena’s tear-stained cheeks, brushing away the fresh ones as they fall. “I’ve wanted it for so long, but didn’t want to risk losing you.”
“You wouldn’t lose me, Kara. No matter what happens, you won't lose me. Not again.” She takes a shaky breath, her hands wrapping around the blonde’s wrists. “I planned to tell you tonight when we got back here, it’s why I didn’t drink at the bar. I wanted you to know it wasn’t influenced by anything else.” She leans back, green eyes bouncing between the blue galaxies staring back.
“What does this mean, Lena? Are you saying…” Kara swallows the nervousness crawling up her throat. “Do you – what are you saying?” She runs her thumbs across the soft skin underneath Lena’s eyes, never taking her eyes off her best friend's face.
Lena smiles, leaning into the touch, briefly closing her eyes to take in the moment. She opens her eyes again to stare directly into Kara’s, wanting to make sure the blonde knows how serious her next words are. “I am saying that I love you. I’m in love with you. I’m pretty sure I have been since the day we met.” She breathes out, her head swimming from how close they are, how close their mouths are. Her eyes glance down to pouty pink lips and back before she finishes speaking. “I’m saying that I want to be the one you miss, I want to be the last face you think of when you fall asleep. I want to be yours.”
A soft gasp escapes Kara’s lips, her eyes glittering with fresh tears, and her face breaking into a wide smile as she whispers, “Lena… I love you, too. So much. I want all of those things.” She sniffles, carefully rubbing their noses together, so close that their lips graze causing them both to gasp. She whispers against the soft skin of Lena’s lips, “I’m already yours. My heart has always been yours, I just didn’t really know it until I lost you.”
With the last word, their lips brush again and Lena surges forward, pressing them together fully. The first press is chaste and firm. The second is yearning and desperate, fueled by all the years of self-imposed resistance. By the time they break apart for air, Lena is straddling Kara’s lap with her hands buried in golden locks. Kara’s hands are underneath the back of Lena’s shirt, wide palms pressed firmly into the warm skin of her back.
“I’ve wanted to do that for years. It’s sooo much better than anything my imagination came up with.” Lena grins against Kara’s slightly parted lips. “There are a lot of other things I’m willing to bet are way better as well.” She smirks and leans forward, pressing another kiss to the blonde’s lips.
An adorable grin spreads across Kara’s face. “I think we should explore all those things, don't you?” She pulls Lena closer, kissing the underside of her jaw and down the column of her neck. “We have the whole weekend, after all.”
Lena tilts her head to the side, giving Kara more access to her neck. She’s getting lost in the sensation when Kara stops and giggles. Lena leans back, glaring at the woman beneath her. “What is so damn funny? It better be good since you stopped making out with me.” She raises an eyebrow at the blonde, causing her to clear her throat and stop laughing.
“I was just thinking about the bar earlier. Thinking about how if you had stayed, you would have known William and I weren’t dating.” She smiles and places a sweet kiss on the tip of Lena’s nose. A mischievous grin spreads across her face. “He and I spent most of the night talking about work. And you know, his new girlfriend.” She smiles as Lena’s eyes widen and her mouth gapes.
Kara laughs much harder, barely contained.
“You better be glad I love you.” Lena sighs and shoves the blonde down onto her back. It only takes a few seconds to quiet that smug laughter as it is quickly replaced with soft moans.
Lena smirks, that's more like it.
They spend the rest of the night getting to know each other in a whole new way.

Lena is suddenly busy too busy to do anything with Kara. Kara thinks she might still be mas at her, so she goes spy on her. Only to discover that Lena might have a new old best friend
By the time Lena announces she has someone she wants Kara to meet, Kara is ready and raring to hate her.
For the past three months, it’s been nearly impossible to pin Lena down for anything. Lunch, brunch, movie nights, game nights, you name it, Kara’s tried it and has been met with the same response.
I’m sorry, I already have plans.
Oh, they talk often enough, which is the only reason Kara hasn’t forced the issue and stormed her way over to Lena’s apartment. Talking is even worse.
“My friend and I tried this new restaurant, I think you’ll love it.”
“My friend and I were talking about your article…”
Going to new restaurants was their thing. Talking was their thing. Hers and Lena’s. Nevermind that Lena has been gushing about this friend non stop, but it's the appropriation of time and activities and things that burrows under Kara’s skin and stays there.
So when Kara receives the invitation and accepts the offer of dinner, she arrives fully prepared to give this person the third degree, and maybe even some stink-eye. Not unlike a very similar dinner with one Jack Spheer. The fact she’d been wrong about Jack’s character is something she shoves far from her mind.
Lena meets her outside, phone in hand. Despite the fight she’s spoiling for with this friend, Kara has nothing but relief for the sight of her friend. “Lena!”
Lena looks up at the call and beams. BEAMS.
She receives Kara with a hug that seems to last for an age, warm and firm and accompanied by a hum from Lena that puts something right in Kara’s heart.
“I’ve missed you,” Kara says truthfully.
“Me too,” Lena offers. “I’m sorry it’s been so long. Truly.”
At that, Kara forces a smile. “Hey, I get it. But I’m looking forward to meeting this person who’s been stealing you away from me.”
Lena laughs, bright and clear. “Okay! Come on, she's already inside.”
Damn. Kara had hoped to arrive first, gain some high ground. The realization that Lena and her friend may very well have arrived together cuts Kara to the core. She plasters on a smile and follows Lena into the restaurant. As they walk towards the back, Kara’s heart starts to pound. Not with fear or anger– apprehension.
Then, finally, they reach the table whose occupant rises at their approach and– oh.
Oh no.
Lena’s friend is tall and slender, Asian with expressive dark eyes and a sweet smile on perfect lips.
“It’s wonderful to finally meet you,” the woman says. Her voice is lightly accented, British, and light in a quietly genuine sort of way. “Lena has told me so much about you.”
Kara belatedly realizes that Lena must have already made introductions, and that she must have missed it while studying this mysterious, gorgeous stranger. She covers this by shooting Lena a look. “You have?”
Lena flushes. “Li teases, but yes. Of course I have. You are my best friend.”
Kara nearly stumbles at that, halfway to finding her seat. Lena says it so readily, in front of this… Li, no less. Kara should feel relieved, honored. Warm, at the very least. But in the back of her mind a dark voice wonders, if Lena were so comfortable saying this in front of Li, with no expectation of jealousy or backlash- then what does that make Li?
“Kara?”
Kara blinks, realizing that Li has asked her a question. She awkwardly clears her throat. “Sorry?”
“I was wondering how you met Lena?” Li repeats. “I’ve had Lena’s version, but she’s a terrible storyteller when she’s embarrassed.”
Kara freezes. Lena was embarrassed?
“Oh, um. Yeah. My cousin was in town on assignment for the Daily Planet, reporting on the near miss with the Venture shuttle–”
“Oh right! Lena, weren’t you supposed to be on that flight?” Li gazes at Lena in concern. “I can’t imagine.”
“Well, considering I’m the reason it went down, yes. I got lucky.” Lena shoots Kara a wink. “I skirted death and got a friend out of it.”
Kara can’t help but smile back. “I just wish it had been under better circumstances.”
“So you… interviewed her?” Li clarified. She follows the question up with a knowing smile. “Let me guess– you just couldn’t stay away.”
Unable to tell if Li is being facetious– she’s still wearing that sweet smile– Kara balks slightly. “I mean, if you put it that way…”
“Oh! Oh, no, of course. I only say that because it’s much the same way I met Lena myself.”
Kara waits for Li to continue, which she does.
“We were what… Eleven?” Lena hums in affirmation. “My mother instructed me to speak with Lena at an event our families were both attending. Lena was reading a book, and I think I asked what it was. The minute she opened her mouth it was like we were best friends already.”
With a sinking heart, Kara fiddles with her glasses. “Eleven, huh? That’s a lot of history.”
“Not as much as I would have liked,” Lena cuts in then, nearly scolding Li. “Our families were on opposite sides of the globe. I think we only started making the most of our acquaintance during university.”
“You went to MIT?” Kara asks Li, surprised.
Li scoffs. “Goodness, no. She means Oxford, for graduate school.”
Conversation continues, and despite Kara’s misgivings, she can’t help but find herself unable to find a single bad thing to say about Li. She seems… sweet, and Lena clearly feels at ease with her, which is largely what gets Kara across the line to maybe possibly liking Li.
“So,” Lena invites over her wine glass, after the meal winds down and Li excuses herself to the bathroom.
Kara sighs. “I like her,” she admits with a smile. “She’s nice.”
“I’m glad you think so,” Lena exhales. “To be honest, I’ve wanted you two to meet for a while now.”
With a smirk, Kara meets Lena’s eye with a wink. “What can I say, you have good taste in friends.”
A laugh bubbles out of Lena, making Kara grin.
“But yeah… I’d probably hang out with her again.”
She’d spend time with Snapper Carr if it meant spending time with Lena. But selfish or not, Lena beams.
“But I’d like to spend time with you too,” Kara adds. She holds Lena’s gaze, almost wide with surprise at Kara’s honesty. Kara sags a little. “I’ve missed you.”
“You too,” Lena returns. She reaches across the table to grasp Kara’s wrist. “Movie night Friday? Just us.”
Kara nods, easing into a relieved grin. “It’s a deal. If you stay over, maybe we can meet Li for brunch, if she wants.”
“If Li wants to, what?” Li chimes in, returning to her seat.
Lena glances at Kara to confirm, and receives a ready nod in response.
“Brunch on Saturday,” Lena offers. “With Kara and I.”
Kara and I.
Warmth spreads in Kara’s chest at the sound of it. She doesn't even mind that Li readily accepts.
“That would be lovely,” she says, voice soft. “Thank you.”
Kara smiles at her, and finds that it comes easily. Maybe it won’t be so bad to get to know Lena’s friend a bit better.
Just so long as she doesn’t lose Lena in the process.

But when Lena is mid convo gesturing wildly and Kara grabs her hand, slides one of Lena's rings off her finger and puts it on her own like, "oh I like this, mine now" all while Lena continues talking like that happens all the time........what then?
i'll tell you what then. then, lena starts wearing rings for the express purpose of having kara steal them from her fingers. this goes on for months, lena's ring taste tending more and more towards kara's, with every new piece of jewellery she ostensibly purchases for herself in fact designed to end up on a kryptonian finger instead
and then, one day, kara's absently playing with lena's fingers in her lap as they watch tv, fiddling with her rings. she lands upon a new one; a platinum band with a single sparkling stone, simple yet elegant
"i like this one," she hums, half distracted by the smell of lena's shampoo and the softness of her skin. "mine now"
and she slips the ring off lena's finger and onto her own, but then—
"wrong one, darling," lena breathes, reaching out to mute the tv, raising her head from kara's shoulder so their gazes lock. the intensity in her eyes is captivating as she slides the ring off kara's left index finger, slides it past the knuckles of her fourth finger instead
and kara just gapes at her, wide-eyed and open-mouthed as lena watches her, the apprehension in her gaze giving way to amusement the longer kara flounders, unable to tear her eyes away from the glittering diamond engagement ring now adorning her finger
"wait. wait. did i just— did i just propose to myself for you?"
lena's mouth thins in a futile attempt to hold back her laughter, lifting kara's hand to press her lips against the tips of her fingers
"oh my god. oh my god. and did you just accept for me?"
lena's head tilts, expression softening. "did i get the answer right?"
"yes," kara gasps and then she's slotting their mouths together, messy and imperfect, unable to tear her eyes away from the ring that resembles her own heart in so many ways; stolen, but still ending up right where it's supposed to be
she wraps lena up in her arms, cups her face in her hands, diamond sparkling almost as bright as the happy tears in lena's eyes
kara grins. "mine now"
#THAT'S WHAT THEN ANON#this is all your fault#i really got swept up by this one#im so soft for supercorp proposals especially when they're so dumb just like kara and lena are so dumb#so thank you so much for this mental image im sure it's not what you meant at all but here we are#hope you're having a great day#asks#anonymous

Drives me wild to think that Lena "heart-shaped, double-dimpled smiles; double cheeked up and packed with cake; jawline and eyebrows for days; soft, sad kitten" Luthor is just out there existing loudly while being extremely wifeable? Some dapper, earnest, and mildly oblivious blonde beefcake should wife her up or something, ya know?
she exists loudly & lovingly, steals kara's hoodie/sweaters at every opportunity, has most of her personal belongings in kara's apartment, always finds a way to cuddle up to kara every night in their (kara's) bed, sleeping happily & soundly in kara's big strong arms, performs shared wifely duties with kara every day.

wife her up!!!
#wifeable & maxed out on wifeability#what is happening to our vocabulary <3#so true so real anon; many points made & they're all correct 😌#hope you're having a lovely day!!#asks#supercorp#something something this is all canon no criticism will be taken
