Ava pov

Something a little easier: sneak peak

So, I’ve been sitting on this for a while and since it’s almost finished I thought I’d share a sneak peak of my latest Kate Kane/ Kara Danvers fanfic. Its a little different from my other works- more canon than World’s Finest. Enjoy.

Kate dragged one hand through her hair in a rather weak attempt to soothe restless nerves. Nerves that made her question every decision leading up to this point. What was she doing? She had to be crazy, right? Driving all the way to National City just to see a friend and for what? Some vague feeling that she ought to check in before disappearing again? “Uh, hi, Kara,” Her voice coming out as a hoarse whisper, her tongue thick and tacky in her mouth.

“Do I- I’m really sorry, do I know you?” Instantly Kate cringed. Of course she wouldn’t recognise her; thanks to Alice she had a new face, Circe’s face. She may as well be a complete stranger.

“Kara. It’s me. It’s- It’s Kate.”

“Kate?”

“Yeah-” she croaked, her voice breaking and suddenly she was struggling to see. Tears welling and quickly overflowing tired eyes and streaming down her cheeks. “It’s- it’s me.”

“Kate,” Kara breathed then she was surging forward, arms outstretched and slamming into Kate’s shoulder- half missing her target but quickly readjusting and pulling their bodies tightly together in a desperate embrace that left Kate breathless. “You’re here. You’re actually here.”

“I am.”

“You’re okay.” 

“I am.” Okay. After everything that word felt alien in her mouth but it fit. She was okay. Or at least close enough to it that she didn’t feel the immediate urge to hurl at the mention of it. Being ‘okay’ was, well... okay, it worked, for now. It was a step in the right direction. A step towards healing, towards forgiveness. Towards feeling comfortable in her own skin again.

“I thought you died.”
