Diabolik Lovers: All Species Explained (Requested)

Diabolik Lovers* is a Japanese otome game franchise. In it, a human girl finds herself in a reverse harem with thirteen demons total; depending on the source material. Due to there being several different types of demons, this article will explain all the races of demons and their place in society. Please note: No fan theories or headcanons (fan interpretations or additions of a fictional story that aren't canon or confirmed to be canon by the creator) will be included in this article.

Demons: Ancestor

The Ancestors, also known as the Founders, are the first demons to exist in the Demon World. As such, they are a superior demon race as the highest rank of demon. The most powerful type of demon race belongs to the First Blood Clan (DL game: Dark Fate). Being the ancestor race of all the demon kinds, they possess all the basic racial skills of the four superior demonic sub-races, but they don't possess their weaknesses. Ancestors have the ability to transform into bats, snakes, wolves, and eagles. They also have the most powerful strength, speed, regenerative abilities and healing saliva. In addition, Ancestors have the most enheightened vision, smell, and hearing. Finally, they can use magic, summon familiars, mind control, turn humans, teleport and fly whenever they please. The only way ancestors can die is by decapitation (DL manga: Young Blood & OVA anime). Due to all of this, They are the strongest race in the Demon World and the Human World. Despite this, Ancestors are at their most powerful during a solar eclipse [mistranslated as lunar eclipse] (DL Seas 2). As the original demons, they're active at night (DL game: Haunted Dark Bridal, Laito's Maniac Epilogue).

Known Clan Members: Carla and Shin Tsukinami, Cordelia Sakamaki, Yui Komori [has Cordelia's heart], Menae [deceased], Krone [deceased], Gisubahha [deceased], and Felzein [deceased] (DL manga).

Due to being a hybrid, Cordelia is considered a First Blood Clan member because a half-breed demon's rank is determined by the strongest blood flowing through their vains. Thus, her vibora blood doesn't matter. However, it's likely Cordelia doesn't possess all the same powers of an ancestor. If she does, they're all weakened versions of a founder's abilities.

Demons: Vampire

Pureblood Vampires are one of the four superior demonic sub-races, which are all equal to one another in rank. They belong to the Bat Clan. This is because vampires have the ability to turn into bats (DL game: Haunted Dark Bridal & manga). Vampires also possess inhightened smell, vision and hearing. Other abilities include: using magic, summoning familiars, regeneration, healing saliva, teleportation, turning humans, super strength and super speed. During a full moon, a vampire's power is at its peak to fly and use mind control (DL game: HDB, Reiji's Route). They can die if their heads are cut off or if they are stabbed in the heart. However, if a vampire's body is too damaged to heal fast enough, it can be life-threatening, even if not directly. Their weakness is silver; specifically, silver weapons. Vampires are weakened during a solar eclipse [mistranslated as lunar eclipse] (DL Seas 1). Additionally, a vampire's vision diminishes in sunlight. They can eat human food, but it doesn't nourish them. Although all races suck blood, only vampires have blood as the main source of food.

Known Clan Members: Karlheinz, Beatrix, Christa, Richter, Shu, Reiji, Laito, Kanato, Ayato, and Subaru Sakamaki.

Demons: Vibora

Viboras are one of the four superior demonic sub-races, which are all equal to one another in rank. They belong to the Snake Clan. This is because viboras have the ability to turn into snakes. Viboras also possess inhightened smell, vision and hearing. Other abilities include: using magic, summoning familiars, regeneration, healing saliva, turning humans, teleportation, super strength and super speed. During a full moon, a vibora's power is at its peak to where they can fly and use mind control (HDB, Reiji's Route). They can die if their heads are cut off or if they are stabbed in the heart. However, if a vibora's body is too damaged to heal fast enough, it can be life-threatening, even if not directly. It's unknown if they possess the same weakness for silver as vampire's do. Wolves are one of the four superior demonic sub-races, which are all equal to one another in rank. They belong to the Wolf Clan. This is because wolves have the ability to turn into the canines. Wolves also possess inhightened smell, vision and hearing. Other abilities include: using magic, summoning familiars, regeneration, turning humans, healing saliva, teleportation, super strength and super speed. During a full moon, a wolf's power is at its peak to where they can fly and use mind control (HDB, Reiji's Route). They can die if their heads are cut off or if they are stabbed in the heart. Adlers are one of the four superior demonic sub-races, which are all equal to one another in rank. They belong to the Eagle Clan. This is because Adlers have the ability to turn into eagles. Adlers also possess inhightened smell, vision and hearing. Other abilities include: using magic, summoning familiars, regeneration, turning humans, healing saliva, teleportation, super strength and super speed. During a full moon, an adler's power is at its peak to where they can fly and use mind control (HDB, Reiji's Route) They can die if their heads are cut off or if they are stabbed in the heart. However, if an adler's body is too damaged to heal fast enough, it can be life-threatening, even if not directly. It's unknown if they possess the same weakness for silver as vampire's do. However, Pureblood adlers are weakened during a solar eclipse (DL Seas 1). They are also active at night (HDB Laito's Maniac Epilogue). Adlers can suck blood, but human food is their main source of nutrients.

Demons: Impure Vampires

Impure Vampires are an inferior demon race as "half breeds." They’re either half biologically human or they're humans who were turned into vampires. As such, impure vampires maintain their human appearances, memories, thoughts, emotions, skills and habits from their human lives. Despite being part of the Bat Clan, their rank is beneath the four sub-demon species due to not being a pureblood demon. Pureblood vampires hate the scent of impure vampires because they "smell like the dead." This is due to them being reborn as animated corpses upon being turned (DL Seas 2). Impure vampires have increased strength, speed, vision, smell, hearing, healing saliva, turning humans, regenerative abilities and can turn into a bat. But they’re much weaker and slower than a purebloods. During a full moon, an impure vampire can fly and teleport because their powers are at their strongest. They can't use magic or sommon familiars. Impure vampires are also weak to silver weapons. It's much easier to kill them, especially with hunter bullets, because their skills and defences are weaker. Unlike pureblood vampires, they see perfectly in sunlight (DL game: More Blood). Impure vampires' powers aren't affected or weakened during a solar eclipse. This likely applies to all inferior sub-races/impure viboras, wolves and adlers. Finally, all human food nourishes them, but blood is still their main food source (DL, Seas 1).

Half breeds from the three remaining superior sub-species are never mentioned or shown in the franchise. However, considering all demons suck blood, it's likely the impure Viboras, Wolves and Adlers can turn humans as well.

Additional Clan Members: Ruki, Kou, Yuma and Azusa Mukami.

Demons: Dream

There isn't much known about these type of demons, let alone what clan they belong to. However, they are likely an inferior demonic sub-race. Succubus/Succubi [female/females] and Incubus/Incubi [male/males] are dream demons. They enter people’s dreams and take their life energy. The naughty demons do this by causing humans and other demons to have lewd dreams (HDB Laito's Maniac Prolonge). These demons are immortal and are active at night. It's quite obvious they possess magic as well.

Demons: Ghoul

Ghouls are at the bottom of the hierarchy in the Demon World. They're an inferior demon sub-race who are compared to humans and used as slaves by the four superior sub-demon races. Ghouls belong to the Crow Clan. This is because they can turn into crows. Although ghouls are immortal like all the demons listed above, they don't possess any magic. Ghouls don't have enheightened senses, super speed, super strength or regenerative abilities. They also can't teleport or fly in their anthropoid forms. As a result, ghouls are the easiest demon to kill. Finally, they're active at night (HDB Laito's Maniac Epilogue).

Known Clan Members: Yuuri, unknown Sakamaki family butler and unknown male (DL game: Lost Eden, Kino).

Humans

Most humans live in the Human World unknowingly alongside the demon species as some demons prefer to live in the human world. Some humans, like Seiji Komori, are Vampire Hunters (HDB & DL manga). But they keep their occupation a secret as Yui was unaware of this about her father. Vampire Hunters hate vampires, yet they can be hired by vampires to kill their own kin for the sake of having one less demon roam the earth (HDB Reiji's Route). Although they're considered the weakest species to ever exist, humans can climb the social hierarchy in the demon world. They can have romantic relationships with demons and reproduce with them due to demons requiring their blood. However, the best way for a human to integrate into demon society is to have their heart replaced with a demon's heart. Unfortunately, this turns the human into an unknown race.

Demons: Unknown Races

Depending on the demon heart's rank, the human will be considered the same rank as the demon heart they possess because it's pumping the specific demon race's blood throughout the person's body. As such, the person is no longer completely human. Yui has the heart of a half Vibora Princess and a half First Blood Princess. Due to this, the human girl is considered as such and is treated equally to both said demon races. Thus, she can continue any demon race bloodline (DL Seas 1, DL manga, DL game Haunted Dark Bridal & DL game Lost Eden, Reiji's Maniac 10).

Kino is another unknown demon race. He's a creature created from the essence of Karlheinz. Due to this, it can be argued he is his illegitimate son in a strange sense, thanks to being made from his DNA. After all, another living individual related to someone's genetics is the definition of a person's offspring. However, Karl doesn't consider Kino his son because he wasn't conceived naturally. His demon rank is unclear as he possesses a seemingly perfect copy of Karl's powers despite not being a vampire (DL game: Lost Eden, Kino's Route).

Sakamaki Brothers Jealousy HC’s

Shū:

• He wouldn’t be as outward with his jealousy, if anything it’d be subdued.

• But if he is jealous, you wouldn’t know it.

• If there’s one thing he’s good at, it’s feigning ignorance and placing a wall.

• Canonically in the HDB and MB Anthropology Manga, Shū gets jealous by stupid things, and is in a sense, comical with it.

• He wouldn’t get fussy like Kanato or Ayato.

• More so annoyed that he’s finding himself attached to someone at this level again.

• All of the boys have a certain level of possessiveness, so it’s not shocking if Shū displays his in lethargic and apathetic fashion.

• He values those close to him, so he wouldn’t want to give away what’s his so quickly. That’s where a lot of the motivation towards being jealous can come from.

Reiji:

• Definitely stern and set with it.

• He takes his jealousy seriously, and wouldn’t want to find himself jealous over anything ‘stupid’ or ‘over the top.’

• Reiji will 100% pull his S/O aside and confront them head on about what bothers him.

• Although, at times he can choose to let it linger, waiting for his S/O to figure out what’s bothering him themselves.

• Almost like a game if anything, all at his S/O’s expense.

• He has no problem with punishing his S/O and blaming them for any unwanted advances or attention being made at them.

• His jealousy is more so triggered by Shū and anything to do with him.

• It sends him into a bit of a frenzy, since it’s all linked to his underlying inferiority complex. Which results in his own diminution of his own talents, which can come off as borderline masochistic.

Ayato:

• You’d know right off the bat if this man was jealous.

• He makes no attempt at concealing his true feelings when it comes to his S/O.

• If he’s upset, don’t be shocked when he does take certain things into his own hands.

• That being, if his S/O is being flirted with in front of him, he has no problem with exhibiting violence to show he possesses someone.

• Ayato is all about possession, and is easily one of the most possessive characters.

• So if he thinks his placement is being threatened, he will react in earnest.

• His jealousy can border the lines of unhealthy and obsessive.

• He’d try his best to resist the urge of marking his prey to showcase his property, but at the end of the day, what good would it do if not even his prey can see the faults?

Kanato:

• Easily one of the most explosive individuals to come into contact with.

• You’re threatening his place in his S/O’s life? It’s like alarms and warning bells going off in his mind.

• Due to his extreme mental instability and heavily implied bipolar disorder, he will switch up instantly if Kanato feels attacked or under heavy scrutiny.

• He has no problem with playing pouty and creating a fuss to appeal towards the ‘lolita’ and ‘cutesy’ side he likes to portray to the outside world.

• But in private? He’s a blamer or victim blamer 100%

• He will pin it all on his S/O, even if the circumstances were unavoidable towards his S/O. Kanato does not care.

• He will get physical. As seen within his routes, he does have temperament issues.

• So even if he does subdue himself from having any physical reactions, his S/O is in no way getting out of the heavy verbal abuse coming their way.

Laito:

• Laito is known to put up a wall, almost like Shū, in terms of concealing his true feelings.

• If he’s jealous, it’ll be in the subtext that one would have to take out to fully understand him.

• Laito is someone who, when jealous, wouldn’t want to admit it.

• With his horrible track record with others, he has a slight fear towards true love and the feelings that come with it.

• So for him being jealous, it would subconsciously tear him apart more than his S/O, if anything. That is, if he was to pursue punishment.

• He’d be sure to make his usual perverse remarks, doing anything to not seek out of the ordinary.

• As seen within his routes, he can switch whenever, keeping the Player and Yui on their toes. Expect that for his S/O.

• He’d keep more of an eye on his S/O, lest he becomes left in the past of his own ghosts and worries. It’ll all come in a full circle with Laito, with whatever he does, he knows to expect it to come back at him. Almost like karma.

Subaru:

• Subaru is quite aggressive. Just as an individual and how he can come off at times with his reactions and over the top emotional moments.

• So he wouldn’t take to it kindly with being placed in a position where he’s to be the jealous one.

• There’s two ways it can go. Either he’s flustered and embarrassed about feeling this type of way for his S/O, or he’s viscerally upset at the notion.

• As an individual, it depends on the situation and if he were to get physical with the person/object that is creating this feeling of jealousy within him.

• He’d subconsciously resent himself for feeling these emotions.

• As if someone like him didn’t have the right to even love, much less feel the need to have ownership over someone who didn’t feel the same way back.

• If he’s questioned about it by his S/O, he’d either respond with anger directed towards them for allowing it, or simply shut off and ignore their complaints/queries.

• Subaru tries to be complicit, but with his internal inferiority complex and hatred towards himself, it acts as a conduit for his conflicting feelings.

// I recently replayed HDB and realized that the scenarios in each route aren’t as scary as I remembered. Everything happens too quickly, and the mood shifts from scary to something softer/funny too abruptly. However, where HDB truly shines is in its bad endings and Heaven scenarios. We literally get killed by Ayato, Kanato, Laito, and Subaru, and in Shu’s and Kanato’s Heaven scenarios, they even turn us into bad people. After all, Reiji actually ends up harming us the least, lol.

1_ Shu Sakamaki x Yui Komori

This ship is my comfort ship. From all stories even out of DL fandom. Their relationship is so adorable. Shu is so loyal to Yui. And he improved a lot just because of Yui. He learnt to love and care for people who are important to him. And even when Yui was blind Shu didn't give up on her and continues his love to her. He afraid of fire but jumped into fire to save Yui. And even in Ruki's lost eden bad ending Shu protected Yui after she lost her mental health. This man is great. His love to Yui is so adorable.

2_ Ruki Mukami x Yui Komori

I love Ruki so much and in my opinion he can be best boyfriend for Yui in some ways. Ruki and Yui both love books and I can see they spending their times on reading books and sharing their ideas together. Ruki really improved so much. When he found out that he doesn't want to be snake and he wants to love Yui and betrayed Karlheinz shows that he can change so much because of Yui. And I love how Ruki calls Yui Angel. Because she really is.

3_ Carla Tsukinami x Yui Komori

I guess you all see that I have a soft side for older brother T_T . Carla is Victorian king to me and I really love historical and Victorian stories. Even though Carla started very rough but we see how much he improved. He always said that Yui taught him kindness and I really adore their ship. Carla learned to Love just because of Yui.

4_ Subaru Sakamaki x Yui Komori

I think this ship is already enough popular. Both in Japanese and western fandom. After Shuyui this ship is second in Japan and I don't blame them. Subaru is so adorable and he really loves Yui to the point he can't live without Yui. His tsundere and soft side towards Yui always make me cry so loud T_T. Pure angel with another angel is best.

5_ Kino Sakamaki x Yui Komori

After reading lost Eden I suddenly trapped by Kino. He is just a cutie and he needs more attention by fandom. When he said he loves Yui even more than his own life I felt my heart was going crazy. He is my baby boy. And I love his ship with Yui.

6_ Yuma Mukami x Yui Komori

Baby bear with his tiny girlfriend. Shut up their relationship is God. They are so fucking adorable together I can't T_T and let's accept Yuma has saddest bad endings. Whenever he loses Yui, he apologize for failing to protect her. This boy is really angel and nobody can change my mind.

7_ Laito Sakamaki x Yui Komori

Let me be honest guys. I have a very big dirty mind and Laito's completes it so well. TBH I didn't like Laito's HDB route. It was too cruel for my baby girl Yui. But let's accept Laito improved almost more than all characters.

8_ Kou Mukami x Yui Komori

Well Kou is kinda like Laito. He was so sadistic at first. But he saw Yui as his blue sky and I adore it so much. If he tries more he can be a really good boyfriend.

9_ Shin Tsukinami x Yui Komori

My feelings towards them is a little complicated. I need to know them more but still I like them so much.

10_ Reiji Sakamaki x Yui Komori

Don't blame me. Reiji is always against my baby Shu so I can't love him that much. But his ship with Yui is so fucking hot. Really daddy.

11_ Azusa Mukami x Yui Komori

Azusa is literally an angel. I almost love him as much as I love Yui. But you know his ship with Yui is so soft and cute. I can't help my dirty mind but I need sexy ships more. Still in my personal opinion Azusa is the only one who really deserves Yui.

12_ Kanato Sakamaki x Yui Komori

Kanato is not my type. Most of the times he scares me and I think Yui has very hard time with him. Of course Kanato grows but poor Yui is really tired. I hope Kanato grows more.

13_ Ayato Sakamaki x Yui Komori

Sorry not sorry but I even don't ship Ayato with Yui. Because I don't like him. He always gets on my nerves and he is not really my cup of tea. I still respect his fans and I know he has a lot and I ask them to respect me too. I think rejet completely forgot about other boys and everything is about Ayato just because they wanna make him look popular and big????? Sorry but Ayato really doesn't need this attention by rejet. He already has enough attention and rejet is making other boys to be forgotten. I really don't like it. His personality is not my type. Sorry.

Since I have finished all of the mainline DL games, I have decided to talk about my three favorite routes in each game. Of course, there will be spoilers for all of the games. There’s no particular order, they’re just my three favorites. Enjoy this!

HDB- Laito’s route was awful, but I loved it so much. It was so oppressive and atmospheric, and I couldn’t look away. I did want to strangle him at the end, but it’s fine.

     Shu- His route is chill, and is a nice break from all of the awfulness of the others. I’m not the biggest Shu fan, but I enjoy his story and his chill vibes.

     ��Reiji- As a teenager who got into DL through the anime, Reiji and Kanato were my favorites. The games kind of broke my impression of these two, and now they’re my least favorite Sakamakis. Reiji’s route starts out pretty horribly, as he whips, poisons, and berates Yui at every turn. However, Cordelia awakens, and there’s a sense of catharsis as she puts Reiji through the same pains. It’s quite satisfying for the player.

MB- Laito- His route is basically watching him as he goes into a mental health crisis because he realizes his abuse, and that what he thought was “love” wasn’t truly love. It’s interesting to see him spiral into a suicidal state, and he’s just a very tragic character. Like, I want to comfort him so bad. 

     Kou- Ah, another boy with sexual abuse in his past learning how to love. We love to see it. During this route, I was like “Oh, that sounds like something those awful aristocrats said”, and “Goddamnit, Kou.” I love the symbolism of the blue sky. 

     Yuma- Yuma Mukami is my favorite character. Yes, I want to kiss him (and more). Anyway, when I began this route, I didn’t expect it to be about ambition and dreams. I love how sweet he can be, and he’s so wonderful, especially at the end. I also love the scene where Yui pushes him into the bathroom before dinner. She was so intimidated by him at the beginning, but at the end, she was able to force him into the bathroom. 

DF- Ayato- This guy really grew on me. He’s so sweet in DF, and his character development is nice. They resurrected Cordelia and made us feel bad for her, which is insane. I love it so much.

      Ruki- There’s a lot that happens in this route, and this is the route that made me like Ruki a lot more. In MB, I didn’t care much for him, but now I do. Anyway, in this route, Kou and Ruki get into an argument regarding saving Yuma and Azusa from the Founders. Then, Shin manipulates Yui into giving him blood, and then Yui sacrifices herself in exchange for Azusa, and it’s so depressing. Ruki finally realizes his feelings and saves her. 

     Laito- Laito’s routes are pretty tragic, and this one is no exception. This one is about Laito having an existential crisis about losing Yui, and also dealing with certain revelations about Cordelia and Karlheinz. He needs restraining orders, but he’s also a tragic character who needs help. 

LE- Ruki’s route is surprisingly good, and now I understand why he got second place in the popularity poll. His backstory makes me reconsider my views on him, and I love how much he cares for his brothers.

     Shin surprised me. I didn’t really care for the Tsukinami brothers in DF, but even so, I enjoyed Shin’s route. Yes, there’s a few plot holes in Shin’s identity crisis, but it’s still an interesting story, so I don’t really care. 

     Yuma’s my favorite, and he doesn’t deserve any of the suffering that he goes through. Seriously, screw you, Kino. He’s such a sweetheart, and we really get to see the oppression of the ghouls in this route. He just wants to make the world a better place, and that’s wonderful.

Explanation:

1st is azusa bc he's the pliable little angel I've ever seen, like. Look. Look at him. He's a baby, just. UGH i love him sm it hurts.

2nd is shu bc he's just an unbothered king, as long as he's not distured he doesn't have two fucks to give <3

3rd is ruki, bc i feel that he'd try to hold back for some reason?? Idk could just be me (i don't have much to say abt him sorry)

4th is subaru bc. Let's be honest, as much as I hate to say this, you could guilt trap him. Manipulation would be easy and he could be persuaded into doing or not doing things.

5th is kou bc just return his favors and you'll be fine. He's not that violent unless he doesn't get what he wants. (Also you could manipulate him as well, if you know a little about his past, i feel)

6th is yuma bc he's actually not that violent (although he still is) and aside from the vulgar language, he's not too hard to deal with.

7th is reiji bc. Tbh i didn't really know where to put him AHEM. I mean he doesn't bite people for fun unless provoked, so yeah. He's pretty manipulative tho so the mental pressure of his mere presence would be suffocating.

8th is ayato bc although his brother energy is unmatched, he's still pretty violent yk. Impulsive too, he's kinda like a teenager with too much confidence and energy that he doesn't know what to do with.

9th is laito bc oh my fucking god can you not sexualize anything and everything around you?? I like him, but please for f's sake STOP LICKING GIRLS

And finally, 10th is kanato bc.

Although he's my favorite, he's not excluded from my judgement. He's the most violent, unstable little shit I've ever seen, I see people like him irl and I imagine myself tearing them apart like. Shut your bitchass up you're not the ruler of shit alr. Your analyzes are really helpful and so valuable to the community. It was from your latest analysis of Reiji that I got motivated to research the boys more thoroughly and became very knowledgeable about behavioral issues. But as I replayed each HDB and MB route, I suddenly realized something.

Each of the brothers is very different, but they all seem to share a lot in common when it comes to punishment and obedience. Despite being raised by such different types of mothers, many of the brothers use one common control tactic - a "reward" for obedience or punishment for disobedience. Of course, some of them can take the reward as such, while others have it quite twisted. And it seems that this practice really works on Yui, because this way they train her to obey without a second thought so that she can to avoid the pain, but I got the impression that they didn't see it that way. For most of the development of Yui's "relationship" with one of the boys, this goes to an extreme and eventually she starts to lose the line between pain and pleasure and things get complicated. But I wonder if they are doing this to make her a masochist? As far as I am informed, a man cannot suddenly become a masochist, but is born with such a tendency, and over time, so to speak, learns to awaken it. Does this mean that Yui is actually really a masochist, and it's not just words when brothers say so?

Of course I know your focus is mainly Reiji and I have no idea if you've played any of the other routes to you know. Also, Reiji isn't as mentally screwed up as Cordelia's sons and he acts very carefully and thinks his actions out more than his brothers. But since you also mentioned this reward and punishment tactic, I would be very happy if you could give me your opinion on the subject.

This is a very astute observation! You are right with each brother engaging in Operant Conditioning (or punishment and reward) even though they each have different mothers; I don't think this is coincidental. From what we see of their mothers, it can be implied that the behaviour is learned - we predominantly see this with Cordelia and her general behaviour, but we also see this with Beatrix and Shuu (I would mention Christa but I feel I lack a thorough understanding of her character). From each of the brothers, to the mothers and by extension even the Mukamis, they all seem to exhibit this form of behaviour; the only way for this to occur [beyond coincidence] is for there to be an interlinking variable. In this case, our good friend Karlheinz - CEO of Beans, Means, Heinz.

From what we learn from Ayato's and Laito's routes, it's implied that Cordelia met Karheinz when she was young - in other words, he preyed on her for her blood, and for her heritage. This can imply that Cordelia may have, in fact, been groomed (for Karl's plan) - since it can be implied that he too engages in the punishment and reward system. This is mainly theoretical, however, from Cordelia's extensive collection of fine jewellery - that, (if I'm right) come from Karlheinz (and can even be implied to be 'love bombing'). We know that Cordelia becomes self-destructive and abusive when she isn't with Karl, possibly implying that his time and gifts act as the "reward" - whereas him marrying Beatrix, Christa and generally discarding Cordeila acts as the "punishment". Cordelia possibly learned her behaviour from Karl and imprinted it onto her children - a sort of "cause and effect" if you will - whereas I've implied Beatrix to suffer from some form of generational trauma; though Karl may have also [possibly] used Operant Conditioning on Beatrix, and Christa, too.

And yes, you're right - some brothers are generous with the rewards and do something that actively makes Yui happy, such as Ayato, Azusa and Kou. However, brothers such as Laito, Kanato and Reiji present a more twisted version of 'reward' - such as Laito forcing himself on Yui [in basically every chapter let's be real] or Kanato wanting to turn Yui into a wax corpse - but that's heavily due to their response to their trauma.

You're also right about Yui being easily 'trained' via Operant Conditioning. However, I think this is a precaution - a means to demonstrate complete and utter control - and like I've mentioned with Reiji, he spares no time in enforcing that; meaning that he's likely done this hundreds of times before (and most likely so have the others). In other words, the Operant Conditioning may just be a standard routine among the brothers. I do like your interpretation that they're doing this so that Yui can avoid their punishments - it definitely puts them in a more sentimental light (and I appreciate that you've read it like this). For characters like Subaru, Shuu, Ayato (and even Kanato) I can definitely see this interpretation - as punishing Yui is more trouble than it's worth; they want her to behave and do exactly as they want.

However, for characters like Reiji and Laito, they particularly enjoy pushing Yui around, they enjoy making her slip up so they can punish her. I see this as more of a demonstration of power and control - as well as a boost to their ego. Reiji and Laito are two characters that lacked control and authority in their childhood - implying that their actions towards Yui are possibly a way to achieve that. For characters such as these, I don't belive that they want Yui to avoid pain in the beginning. Throughout the mid-way section and the end of their respective routes, they don't delight in Yui's pain - it's only in the beginning, and I think this is due to their trauma-response. In other words, the abused become the abuser - they delight in Yui's pain because she feels a physical manifestation of their mental/emotional pain. It's sadism at its most ironic.

So yes, I agree with you on that front - I don't think they see Yui's 'training' in a pet-like way - instead I believe it's a fail-safe. It's a way for each brother to be in complete control, while having the security that Yui can't escape, act out or leave them. At the end of the day, each brother values and desires affection and acceptance - using this form of control over Yui guarantees that. It's a twisted way for them to garner the emotional security they need.

However, I don't believe that any of the brothers use Operant Conditioning to actively or purposefully make Yui a masochist. From what I know, researched and from my own experiences, no one is born a sadist or a masochist. Instead, I believe it to be a learned response. Sadism and masochism are responses to pain - I don't believe people are intrinsically born to enjoy pain - it's called 'pain' for a reason. However, and this is drawn upon my own experiences, I believe that sadism and masochism arise from the exposure to suffering.

If you're exposed to constant and unyielding pain, there's only a small selection of responses to choose from. You can't run from it, you can't hide from it - fighting it only makes it worse - therefore, the only way to deal with the relenting pain is to accept it, tolerate it...enjoy it. I touch on this in my MB analysis regarding Azusa and Yui (and how Azusa is a "dark parallel" to Yui regarding this exact topic). Since the female brain doesn't full mature until mid-twenties, I can afford to take some liberties regarding Yui.

When you're exposed to heavy abuse and physical abuse as a child, your brain does funny things. Now, I'm only talking from my own experiences - so any other views on this are greatly appreciated. But like I said, when you're exposed to pain at a young age, your brain tries to rationalise it and find an effective response. If it's constant, unyielding and inescapable, you can either fight it - and in some cases, make it worse - or you can accept it. When you're a child, or a young adult, you're constantly told the message that you should enjoy life; that you have nothing to sad about or anything worth crying over. Notice how I used the word: enjoy. This is intentional because this is where the brain begins to warp. So, instead of crying about the pain, you instead learn to see the positives - that whoever's inflicting the pain is giving you 'special treatment' for example. This is what we see with Azusa and his attachment to Justin.

People inflict pain because they want to see you suffer; from how my brain responded to that, the only way to combat that is to enjoy it. Once the pain's over - or it's finally stopped for good - that sentiment doesn't go away; instead it finds something to latch onto. Think of your brain as one big circuit board, and the masochism as a cord. Once the pain stops for an extensive period, that cord becomes unplugged - and another cord is plugged in its place; the circuit board fills up. The masochism is still there, the cord hasn't disappeared; it's dangling, and it needs something to latch onto. Once you grow older, your brain develops more plugs, more sockets for different cords and branches that need to be filled in - one of those plugs is sexuality. Now obviously, sadism and masochism aren't intrinsically sexual, they are both sexual and non-sexual: the sexual being self-explanatory and the non-sexual being oriented around amusement - again, it's irony being displayed in its most painful form. But I digress, once sexuality opens itself up to the brain - like with Yui - the unplugged cord of masochism has a socket to wire itself into.

The point I'm getting at is that I believe masochism - and Yui's masochism - to be a trauma-response. It acts as a way for her to 'deal' with the pain - however, since her brain is underdeveloped, her mentality surrounding it warps and distorts. The line between pain and pleasure does become blurred. In other words, it can be implied that Yui's masochism (and Azusa's) are coping mechanisms that have become warped and distorted over time.

Note that Yui never starts the game(s) as a masochist. If anything, she hates the pain. Yet by the end of the game, she is a masochist. She's masochistic due to the severe mental stress she's under and the vile abuse she endures - and her brain can't revert back due to the extent of the distortion. Routes such as Reiji's and Laito's hinge on Yui's mentality unravelling; becoming fragile and mouldable - this is how the masochism is able to infiltrate, it's a coping mechanism (but instead of being able to abandon it, it's latched onto another part of her brain, her sexuality).

Furthermore, when the brothers refer to Yui as a masochist, it could be implied to be an exaggeration, a way to riddle Yui's mind with stress, denial and self-doubt. In other words, it could be implied that they're gaslighting her to sow doubt and make her more susceptible to their mental manipulation. Additionally, it could be implied that they're enforcing masochism onto Yui so that they can enact their own sadism onto her without any complications - to make her a 'willing victim' if you will. In essence, the brothers could call Yui a masochist in order to imprint their own views and needs onto her - sadism and masochism is the giving and receiving of pain. It can be implied that the brothers' sadistic tendencies act as an outlet for their trauma; they need a recipient to take the pain they're giving - that being Yui. However, the brothers' sadism and Yui's masochism doesn't match up.

The brothers begin their routes revelling in Yui's pain, yet they don't end their routes with the same sentiment. Yui, however, starts the routes trying to escape the pain, only to yield to it - and by the end of the route, revel in it. And I'm not just strictly talking about her own pain either. In Reiji's HDB manservant ending, we see Yui delight in the pain and subservience of others. She gains control over Reiji, in which she belittles and emasculates him, all while playing the role of 'Cordelia' - and in Kanato's HDB manservant ending, we see Yui brutally (and sadistically) murders the other brothers, revelling in the affection she believes she'll get because of it. In essence, sadism and masochism are learned responses or coping-mechanisms (gone wrong), but that's just my opinion.

You're also right, Reiji isn't as screwed up as the triplets, and he does think out his every move - painstakingly so. The only other brother I'd say who comes close is Laito,since they're both highly manipulative and predominately enforce Operant Conditioning - with Reiji’s focus being on control and Laito's being on sex. When Yui behaves, they each reward her in non-material ways - for Laito, it's sex or physical affection, and for Reiji, it's remedies when Yui's sick, her favourite meals etc. What they both 'reward' Yui with is their vulnerability. In other words, manipulative characters like Reiji, Laito, Ruki and Carla enforce Operative Conditioning to gain the comfort of control; only once that boundary is established do they 'mellow'. In other words, the need for punishment and reward is a basis wherein the brothers can build a relationship that they can thrive in.

i recently got into diabolik lovers and watched the first season of the anime as well as gameplay of haunted dark bridal. if it's not obvious, my favourite character is kanato !! i haven't been very involved with the fandom yet but i see a lot of hate for him which is sad :(

-- laito was actually my second favourite before hdb, but holy fucking shit is his route messed up. the anime did NOT do a good job portraying how deranged this man is. i still like him but his constant horniness and raging misogyny [more so than the others] are huge turnoffs

-- ayato was always pretty low on the list, and after seeing his route my opinion didn't change much. i don't dislike anything in particular abt him, he's just not the type of character i usually like. i don't rly like him with yui either for that reason, so yeah

carla, shin, & kino character songs. i know kino already has imitation game, dystopia, & count off, but i don’t count them! carla & shin also deserve their own songs & not just solo versions of operation x

a song with all 13 diaboys. that sounds so chaotic & so fun 😭 that should’ve been for the 10th anniversary honestly

bats can purr. i would love if they gave us at least one fluffy scenario with our boys where it happens 😔🙏 i’m also talking about all 13 boys doing this btw don’t think i’d leave your boy out of this. it would be so catboy of kou to purr dude cmon let him be the bat-catboy he is, rejet! & the tsukinami’s could totally purr! even if they aren’t technically vampires, they can turn into bats, right? like how shin turns into a wolf. so they’ve got that dna in them! but also consistency hardly matters to rejet. so yeah i think this could work. also i think it’d be cute to hear each boy purr, no matter how jarring it might be coming from some.

it will always be weird to me that they didn’t make versus songs of the rivals. like kanato & azusa. like cmon you had yuki kaji & daisuke kishio in the studio for that versus cd drama & didn’t use their godly voices for a song together??? i really don’t understand why they haven’t made sakamaki mukami duet songs by now. the only thing close is bad howling where kou replaced subaru..

also isn’t it strange how the mukami’s didn’t get any more solo songs?? each sakamaki got 3 character songs per boy (if you don’t count the ending songs sung by ayato), the mukami’s only got one each. although neither of the tsukinami’s got real character solo’s so it could be worse 💀

animating some of the tokuten cd dramas. this is also something they could’ve done for the 10th anniversary. although, i’m not really that hung up over this. it’s just something that’d be cool. animation is expensive. plus DL getting another anime, especially one so different from the original, would be even stranger for the anime only’s to see.

a little self indulgent but i really want a cd drama line where the boys are in our role.. like i wanna see them be the M’s for once. (aside from u azusa, you already give us both <3 but i would love to see more of it so-) i would also honestly love if we were the vampire this time. pls tell me i’m not the only one who’s really interested in that concept. just once at least? please rejet hear my pleas (though idk how they’d be able to do it now..)

if we had to get another game, i personally want it should be like VC or LP. some of my favorite routes come from those games, & i think kino lovers deserve to have a route like that with their boy.

I'm 99.9% sure they don't, one because there's no example of them using them in the games or CDs, but also because if they did have them, then Dark Fate would have gone very differently. With mind control powers, the Tsukinami brothers would have just been able to use them to make Yui go along with their plans and dispose of any of the Sakamaki and Mukami brothers who were in a relationship with her beforehand.

If you want to know what Carla can do with his powers (i.e. stuff that's been shown in the games/CDs), I actually made a post about it that you can find here (although I need to update one or two things ^^;;).

I do half-remember Kanato using some form of hypnosis/mind control in HDB so from that you would sort of expect Carla at least to be able to do this too but it certainly never comes up (probably because it would have made things too easy for him in DF). Also I can't remember any of the boys using it post-HDB so I guess it's probably one of the many things that got retconned (that being said it's been a long time since I read over what happens in MB and a couple of the LE routes so if I've got that wrong then someone please correct me).

“Shu roasts the heroine the most!”, I get that it’s rude but his insults are actually funny?? A bunch of people will like him for being brutally honest or a jerk because it’s literally a game for players with masochistic fantasies. They WANT to be roasted by good-looking men. That’s the point.

“Shu is lazy and stupid, he’s the only one who failed his school year”, genuine question: If you were an immortal creature that doesn’t need food or sleep to survive, would you still care about grades? Besides, he’s really smart.

“Shu doesn’t care about Yuma, he just feels guilty”, in LE he sacrificed himself for him and reincarnated merely because he wished to meet Yuma again and get on well with him in another life—

Reiji:

“He hurt Shu and Yuma”, well yeah but he was shown plenty of times regretting it and trying to fix things. Stop reminding this to Reiji stans because that conflict is already closed.

“He is so mean in other routes”, obviously?? If you don’t teach him how to love, he won’t suddenly act nice towards anyone.

Without him Yui would fail her tests and the Sakamaki household would be in chaos.

Subaru:

“W-What do you mean baby Tsundere is not soft innocent virgin boy? 🥺”; he has never been like that, that’s how YOU perceived him. Stop acting so shocked every time Subaru does something bad because he’s still a vampire after all??

Also, why are so many people reducing his character to Kou and/or Yui—? He’s much more than that and has his own interests, struggles, likes, dislikes, and so on.

“He’s irrelevant”; Diabolik Lovers has 13 love interests, they can’t make everyone extremely important to the general plot. Just enjoy a character as it is, it’s not that hard.

Ruki:

The cat jokes were funny when the Meow Meow Vampire art came out but MOVE ON. I hate that scene and Ruki was in the wrong but come on now, that’s not even the worst thing he has done and MB happened in 2013.

I understand not liking Ruki as a person, because he’s mostly not a good one, but this doesn’t mean he’s not a good character.

“Ruki deserved what happened to him in the past because he was cruel towards everyone”; while I agree that Karma hit him, I wouldn’t say any child really deserves to go through that. He was just a spoiled brat, who most likely wasn’t taught by his parents about modesty or kindness.

Kou:

“He was so cruel in MB 😣”, and HE HAD DEVELOPMENT! He’s not the same anymore, nobody is.

“He overreacts”, sometimes he’s not in the wrong and has all rights to be angry.

Kou isn’t afraid of going against Ruki, even if he’s the brother he admires the most, as long as he knows that what Ruki is doing isn’t good.

Yuma:

“He beat Yui up in the MB bad ending!😡😡”, it’s a bad ending for a reason, lol.

Pretty reminder that Yuma always tries to help others with Kou and Azusa, and was even willing to save the ghouls in LE.

“Yuma doesn’t care about Shu”, did we play the same game or…?

Azusa:

“Azusa is so horrible, he threw Teddy in the fire!”; and he only did it to save Yui, it was not intentional.

While not all his actions are good, keep in mind that he never means any harm and is overall such a sweet guy.

The Tsukinamis and Kino:

“They were too easy to defeat in DF!”; Dark Fate wasn’t entirely about them to begin with. Most routes focused on the boys’ internal struggles with their trauma and how to move past it.

“Kino is sometimes mean for the sake of being mean”; it’s almost as if he’s the ✨villain✨

It’s dumb questioning the morals of characters supposed to have an antagonistic role.

“Kino hurt Ayato in LE”; out of all characters who have wronged Ayato, at least Kino felt bad and wanted to apologize.

Yui:

“She’s dumb and ugly”; Japanese fans literally love her for being an idiot because it wouldn’t be fun to see the heroine being the best at everything or not making mistakes at all. Plus, her design is definitely not ugly.

Stop creating your own version of Yui in your head and ending up disappointed when she doesn’t act the way you expect her to. No, Yui is not OOC for liking being bitten, having a low learning ability or saying things she shouldn’t in the wrong moments. Nobody is perfect and everyone has their own kinks and flaws.

“She’s too innocent”; she’s not?? If you really want to see her thirsty, go play Ayato’s routes, especially the heaven scenarios.

“She’s weak”, she’s the opposite. Yui is one of the most mentally strong DL characters.

I can’t understand people who hate on heroines when they’re present in all routes and are the most positive characters.

Hey! I want to clarify a whole lot about this post. Although I absolutely understand why people, including yourself, believe that Cordelia does not have sex with Laito, I think it is absolutely heavily implied, and not necessarily a fandom thing.

FIrst of all, the anime is just super watered down compared to the games as you know. So using examples from it doesn't necessarily lend to much credibility in my eyes, but that's more of a me thing. I'm also not sure why you had to use Japanese subtitles if you were going to provide the translations, there's an official English sub for them.

However, out of all of the boys in the anime, Laito doesn't have a flashback. If it was just blood sucking, then it would have at least been depicted--but no. Dialovers, of course, isn't an 18+ game, and that's why there's so many euphemisms for sex, and sex is never ever explicitly mentioned, despite it happening. Game ratings in Japan is interesting, and that's why they had to bump up the rating for Dark Fate because there's a gun shown in it.

It's implied that Laito and Kanato in HDB rape Yui, and how it's not just blood-sucking. We can all agree on that. I'm not sure why the same is not applied to Laito and Cordelia. I understand the frustration of the fandom getting many things wrong, but this is not one of them.

It is explicitly described that Laito is used as a replacement for Karlheinz, and we all know that Cordelia and Karl had sex. Not only is this implied in the games, but it's literally shown in Young Blood.

This whole scene implies sexual relations.

Even if you don't believe they had penetrative sex, the fact that blood sucking is considered sexual by vampires is STILL SEXUAL ABUSE. There is no doubt about it. They were not "lovers," there was grooming involved (we LITERALLY SEE THAT WHEN SHE CONDITIONS LAITO IN THE DUNGEON) and that is not consensual.

Also, Cordelia did not have sex with Laito when he was a child, but when he was older (although part of the fandom seems to believe it was when he was a child, I have never thought this). Ayato admits in their VS II CD that Laito was gone from their childhood bed a lot of the times, and the implications of that is harrowing, even if it was not explicitly sex.

We also know that Kanato was used as a live music performance when Richter and Cordelia had sex, but nobody seems to contest that Cordelia and Richter didn't have sex.

Another huge issue in this argument is that we have unreliable sources of exposition for what the demons are actually like outside of the characters in DL, especially in the first game. People don't talk about that fact--we get conflicting information from different characters. Cordelia was taught from Karlheinz that the greatest profession of love among vampires is to kill them, and then was taught it to Laito. However, we don't see mention of that for any other character, if I recall correctly. But, DL in general is a psychological thriller too, and there is heavy gaslighting in that series, so it does not surprise me that we only get a glimpse and unreliable truth of what things actually are. I understand wanting to take everything that the characters say as the truth or at face value, but we're also talking about Laito here, who says one thing but means the other. We can also get more information about the vampire world in DL through Carnelian Blood--which takes place in the same universe, but those characters are NOTHING like the ones we see in dialovers. I don't know a whole lot more about that series other than that, but I do know that they're not sadistic, contrasting what we thought about how vampires "innately are" in DL.

Laito and Cordelia were absolutely not lovers. Cordelia was an abused woman who further abused her sons in awful ways. Ayato recognizes that it's not normal, like you said. The whole motif of Laito's route in HDB was to make Yui a replacement for Cordelia, which includes grooming and raping her. I have wrote about this extensively here. HDB was also the darkest game out of all the games. I assume the reason why it was never explicitly revisited in the other games is because of how dark and harrowing the relationship between Cordelia and Laito is. The rest of the series is definitely toned down compared to HDB, and I believe that is intentional.

Also, they don't really need to keep harping on the fact that Cordelia sexually abused Laito in other games--because we know that, and since flashbacks are sparse, it lends more insight into other aspects of their relationship.

We can also compare Cordelia's relationship with her sons to the other Sakamaki mothers; none of them sexually abused their sons. We know that this is not a normal thing in the context of demon families in DL. When Yui comes into everyone's lives, they are able to pursue a healthier relationship (depends on the route of course and ending and who it is), which the characters take a liking to and genuinely enjoy having a healthier relationship. Ergo, we know that it's not something that's "genetically embedded" in them to be shitty people. Of course, seeing humans as a food source is another thing and makes sense that they wouldn't see them as sentient, but as Laito especially develops over his MB route and his DF route, he starts to become a better person (of course, the bar is on the floor, but in dark fate especially, he goes through a whole arc of learning empathy).

Of course, Rejet also tends to retcon some things accidentally (like how they hint at their ages), but you ALSO have to take in consideration that HDB and MB+ are in different timelines. We don't know when those timelines were reset, but what I do know, is that Laito absolutely was sexually abused by his mother, not just in a blood sucking way. We also have it confirmed that Laito was never bitten by another person until Yui did it to him in his HDB Heaven 01:

"Laito: Nfu~ I’ve always wanted to know at least once what it’s like to be at the other end."

Cordelia didn't suck Laito's blood--either she made Laito suck her blood, or something else also happened. We know he at least sucked her blood because of how he knows the taste from Yui's blood too. We also know that when Cordelia and Richter are in that dungeon scene, no bloodsucking is happening--it is absolutely implied sex.

I hope all of this makes sense, because although I get where you're coming from, there's a whole lot more to look at in this case than just pure dialog.

TLDR; Dialovers, because of multiple reasons (the way it's written but also because it not being an r18 game), create many scenarios that are up for interpretation or having to dig deeper, especially in Laito's case. The writers have even confirmed this--that they prefer for things to be "at your own interpretation" which of course doesn't help either of our cases, but it doesn't deny it either.

THE REAL TAKEAWAY: Regardless, at the end of the day, you do have to agree that in at least one way, Cordelia sexually abused Laito, whether it was actual sex or if it was only bloodsucking. I don't think you're a Cordelia apologist, but I know there's some people who are (said people have threatened me multiple times for some reason years ago so I know they're here LMFAO) and it's kinda crazy that they don't see anything wrong with her actions--which concerns me further with how they perceive the real world. Why fandom decided that Laito had sex with Cordelia?

My position: they never had sex. Bloodsucking only. Not without a certain reason. I would like to prove that claimimg the were sexual lovers is not correct at all.

Watching the anime only and without any accompanying sources you might not even guess any sex. However the fact thatLaito was in loveand desired his own mother is obvious. In s01e04 he sighs glaring at the moon remembering 'the smell, the voice of his beloved', swears eternal love to her; in s01e08 he having pushed his mother off the balcony said that now she belongs only to him forever; in s01e11 he expresses regret that he doesn't see her in hell, and in s01e12 while her dressburning he mumbles something about her (maybe Karl's also, but due to contex there's must be Cordelia) and Richter's actions to them.

s01e04:

愛してます. いつまでも いつまでも いつまでも. あなたが望むと望まざるとにかかわらず. 一瞬たりとも あなたのこと忘れたことなんかない. あなたの声 あなたの匂い すべて覚えてる. Laito: I love you. Always, always, forever. Whether you want it or not. I've never forgotten you for a moment. Your voice, your smell, I remember everything.

s01e08:

これで永遠に僕だけのものになったね Laito: Now you belong to me only forever.

s01e11:

次に会う時は地獄だと思ってたよ Laito: I thought the next time we met would be in hell. 期待に添えなくて、残念だわ Yuidelia: It's a shame it didn't live up to expectations. いや 期待以上だよ Laito: No, it's beyond expectations.

s01e12:

一つだけ明らかな真実を教えてあげるよ Laito: I'll tell you the only obvious truth. 僕たちはもう二度と叔父上やあの人に振り回されない Laito: That person and you, Uncle, will never be able to us again.

Cordelia in s01e08 asked Laito to save her and, holding out her bloody hand, said that she truly loved him:

ライト 私を助けなさい Cordelia: Laito, save me.

ライト 愛してるわ Cordelia: Laito, I love you. 本当に Cordelia: Really.

And that's the whole story of their relationship in anime.

Unlike Ayato who was thrown into the lake in s01e02 and said to live at the its' bottom in s01e07 Laito seems having no reason to hate his mother but the fact that he desired her is an indisputable (his 'you're mine forever').

No official source desribed it as sexual relationship. Never.

This was only thought up by the fans themselves.

Analyzing DL keep in mind key aspects that important to understand the story:

1. the title is based on a bloodsucking fetish: bloodish is a much more intimate process than eating, it's erotic; 2. Laito and others are demonic creatures with a distorted nature, they don't feel like humans, have no human heart; 3. DL women are weak fisicallly and magically; 4. Cordelia's blood and even its' smell drove vampires crazy.

In the first game there are only two oddy episodes that fans automatically saw as sex.

1. DL Laito Dark Epilogue. Laito has a dream of Cordelia coming to him: she says that she is 'not enough' and that she 'loves' him, he promises to 'give her love'. 2. DL Laito Maniac Epilogue. After killing any man Cordelia asks Laito to give her 'warmth'.

The rest flashbacks do not hint at anything at all. Imprisonment in a dungeon (DL Laito Maniac Prologue) and a request to help kill Karlheinz (DL Laito Ecstasy Prologue), Cordelia's murder (DL Laito Ecstasy Epilogue).

But inside Yui Cordelia called her son a 奴隷. It seems to be a special term, we would return to it.

That made fans decide that the mother sex with her own son. If Laito and Cordelia would be human, not bloodsucking demons, I would agree with fans. But from the start I passed the games I noticed many details in Laito's logic that were not that simple.

We have a blood-drinking fetish. Cordelia had special blood. So this story may be more complicated.

More, Blood. There are only two flashbacks with Laito and Cordelia. Dark Prologue and Ecstasy Epilogue. In MB Laito Dark Prologue he asks Cordelia in the background of the bedroom 'why doing such a thing'. Cordelia answers because she loves him and what a place in a world where any mother doesn't love her child. Laito answers that 'here'.

Fans again decide that Laito the boy is hinting at sexualized 'love' between him and his mother.

In MB Laito Dark Epilogue and MB Laito Ecstasy Prologue the butler of their castle called Laito to Cordelia. Laito provocatively asked the reason. To the butler's unfinished answer Laito only grinned called him a 'bad old man'.

In MB Laito Ecstasy Prologue Ayato tried to hammer into his brother that Cordelia does not love any of them.

MB Laito Dark Prologue, MB Laito Dark Epilogue, MB Laito Maniac Epilogue are episodes with his relationship the maid Hilde are shown as he decided to use words of love for his own purposes and to seduce her. His monologues also are hardly grasp their essence, it is often unclear who Laito is talking about, himself, someone or in general.

Dark Fate. Laito refused to acknowledge Cordelia as his mother but Richter scolded him for this. Yui wanted a solution to this problem.

DF Laito Maniac Epilogue. Laito himself suggested to his mother to forget about 'that person' because she already 'has him'. Cordelia snapped that Laito is not Karlheinz and is not a replacement of him. And her answer really affected him ('If not a replacement who am I?')

DF Laito Vampire End. Laito having already learned about his father's experiments makes a grave for Cordelia, calls her 'kaa-san' for the first time and says goodbye to her.

In SS for the Dark Fate game he again refers to her 'kaa-san': 'Ayato and Kanato have mom's blood, so they would be okay' (true-sweet-moments).

Lost Eden. Laito only remembers Cordelia once comparing her to Yui whom he suspects of cheating on Kino (LE Laito Ecstasy Prologue).

Lunatic Parade. Yui stutters about ｢裏切り｣ = Laito's 'betrayal' by Cordelia in his childhood (LP Laito Chapter 2).

Chaos Lineage. Some episodes with Yui's heartbeat and her avoiding Laito memorizing Cordelia again.

That's all. That made fans thinking Cordelia and Laito had sex. For me it's still funny.

The CD drama Versus II Ayato vs Laito even pushed fans to decide that Cordelia raped her son when he was a child. But again Laito's words are not about it.

However I repeat our bloodsucking story with giving blood that means too much and Cordelia's special blood suggests a much more difficult story. So then we would learn all the fanbooks, descriptions, dramas and other characters' (especially Kanato and Ayato) conversations to understand what it was. Sex or bloodsucking only.
