🍓which retired historical character would you bring back? which goty?
-@howevercantheafterbe
cécile and marie-grace all the way for historicals! they were the last dolls i really got into as a kid and, while there are changes i’d make to the series (aka cécile should be the main character), i think they have a lot of untapped potential.
as for goty… i wasn’t much of a goty line fan in general, but i remember liking jess and kanani! ironically, the one goty i have is grace and, while i love her french vibes, please dear god put that collection back where it came from

Aloha, Kanani!
Springtime brings lots of tourists to Hawaii, and many of them come to the little town of Waipuna to enjoy its beautiful beaches, relaxed atmosphere, and the "sorta famous” Akina’s Shave Ice, which is beloved by locals and visitors.
Kanani is out of school during spring break, and she’s using this time to make a little bit of money. She has up the shave ice shack on the beach and is selling lots of Hawaiian shave ice! Her parents know she’s smart, talented, and friendly when she runs the stand on her own.
If you’re not familiar with what it is, shave ice is exactly what it sounds like: soft, snow-like shavings from a block of ice that are flavored with sweet syrups. It’s not the same thing as a snow cone, which is made from crushed ice and has a thicker, heavier texture.
Today, Kanani is offering shave ice in either a biodegradable green paper cup with a paper spoon, like the one she’s holding, or a green plastic souvenir cup shaped like a flower that can be brought back to the stand and reused. This should help keep the lovely beaches of Waipuna clean and free of trash.
Kanani has everything she needs to make it a successful day selling. Over on the left, she’s selling flower leis that were made by her friend, Tutu Lani. On the right side underneath the “order here” sign, you can buy postcards painted by local artists.
The machine does most of the hard work of shaving a block of ice.
This one is flavored with pineapple syrup.
I built Kanani’s shave ice stand three years ago, a pandemic project I finished in the early days of lockdown. Kanani doesn’t know that because she was Girl of the Year for 2011 and so she stays in that year. But I made the paper cups of shave ice just this week, trying a new method of using styrofoam balls painted and rolled in salt. I’m pleased with how they turned out!
