Oooo these are good ones. Since I’ve been dying to write some Kaleb x Rhaenyra drabble, I think this is the perfect opportunity (also I’m still new to writing more romantic scenes like this so 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Starvation + In the Storm

Thunder crashed as their bodies collided. Kaleb smashed his lips against Rhaenyra’s, desperate to taste her after so many months apart, as she grabbed at his hair and pulled him into her.

“I have been starved of you for too long,” Kaleb gasped. He peppered a trail of kisses down her jawline. “I need you, Rhaenyra.”

Rhaenyra pressed a kiss to the side of his neck, gently nipping at the skin, then looked up at him. Lightning flashed, illuminating her purple-blue eyes so that they looked almost ethereal.

“And I need you,” Rhaenyra said breathlessly. “I cannot bear this burden alone.”

Just because I’m curious, how about Deidre x Kaleb and Deidre + Therese (the two Criston Cole girlies)?

So Deidre and Kaleb would have been friends in their younger years since they grew up in a friend group with Rhaenyra and Alicent. They would maintain a close friendship throughout their young adult years, though both would grow a bit distant as they carried out their secret love affairs. I could see Kaleb stepping up for his friend and marrying Deidre to help save her reputation when he found out she had bastard children. She would be permissive of his time with Rhaenyra, and they would probably spend the next decade at his keep in the North, raising their sets of bastard twins together. I could very easily see them have their years of friendship turn into something romantic, though it would be a slow burn. They both would understand the other would always have a greater first love they could never be with and find comfort and a family in one another.

I could see Deidre being fond of Therese, perhaps an honorary aunt of sorts with her being the daughter of two close friends. She would also have a lot of sympathy for Therese's situation as a bastard, having bastard children herself. She would have very mixed emotions if she ever found out about Therese having an affair with Criston, probably a mixture of hurt and digust at Criston for going after another woman so much younger, and concern and a bit of jealousy for Therese.

Kaleb - Too Sweet by Hozier

Remember when everyone was obsessing over Harvey from Stardew Valley with this song? Yeah, that’s me with Kaleb (yeah and Harvey too but that’s besides the point).

Aside from that fact that Hozier, especially this song, just fits Kaleb’s vibe, I think that it can be applied pretty well to his relationships with both Rhaenyra and Alicent. Especially Alicent. He feels like they’re both too good for him, and there’s bound to be some insecurity in that.

But yeah mostly this song is just entirely his vibe and honestly if he could he would probably listen to it too.

Now that Therese and Tristan are out of the way, it’s time for some Kaleb lore:

As a boy, Kaleb was restless and rebellious, which irritated his father, Lord Benjimin Dormaire. He felt that as his heir, Kaleb was not ready to someday take his place as the Lord of Raven’s Keep, so he sent him to King’s Landing to learn the ways of the court and become a proper young lord (and maybe for some marriage prospects too, although he never said that out loud).

Kaleb became close with both Rhaenyra and Alicent very quickly, and the three were almost inseparable for quite some time, until the events of Season 1. He had feelings for both of them, but it was Rhaenyra that he was ultimately more drawn to (especially after Alicent married Viserys).

Kaleb and Rhaenyra didn’t confess their feelings for each other until after Aemma’s funeral, and they slept together that night. No one knows about it.

Because Kaleb knew he had no chance of marrying Rhaenyra, he actually thought to ask for Alicent’s hand in marriage, but Otto denied it to him, and it wasn’t long afterwards that Alicent’s marriage to Viserys was announced.

During the royal hunt in the Kingswood, Kaleb chases after Rhaenyra with Criston. There’s definitely some feelings of rivalry between the two men, mostly felt by Kaleb.

He definitely gets hurt by the boar but doesn’t admit it until later bc he’s embarrassed about it. Rhaenyra does tease him about it when he tells her.

He doesn’t like Criston and only puts up with him for Rhaenyra’s sake. Same with Daemon.

He is one of the only people that Alicent feels like she can always talk to, although for a while there is distance between them Bc of his relationship with Rhaenyra and her place as Queen.

Unlike Criston, Kaleb is totally fine with being Rhaenyra’s lover when she marries Laenor. He is not sad to see Criston go.

After their wedding, Rhaenyra and Laenor actually go to Raven’s Keep with Kaleb, who must leave as there is no reason he can come up with to stay at that point, so that Rhaenyra can have just a little bit more time with Kaleb before everything changes (we love the bestie trio). During their stay, Rhaenyra becomes pregnant with Therese and Tristan and stays there until they are born. To keep the true reason for such an extended stay a secret, the explanation that is given is that Rhaenyra had fallen terribly ill and needed time to recover, which is even backed by Lord Benjimin. Everyone believes it but Alicent, but she doesn’t know what really happened there.

When Rhaenyra eventually leaves Raven’s Keep, she gives Kaleb a ruby ring to remember her by, as a promise of their love. It is still kept within the Dormaire family by the time of Game of Thrones and is worn by the Lady of Raven’s Keep.

Kaleb raised Therese and Tristan on his own for the first ten years of their life in the North. In that time, he also became Lord of Raven’s Keep after his father’s eventual death.

He brings the twins to King’s Landing when they are ten years old, because he wants them to know their mother’s family and because he wants to see Rhaenyra again. Unfortunately, by that point he has to start competing with Daemon.

Although Rhaenyra left for Dragonstone, Kaleb chose to remain in King’s Landing with his children, which would lead to a rekindling of emotions with Alicent.

He knew about Tristan’s affair with Helaena.

When the Dance of Dragons began, Kaleb immediately pledged for Rhaenyra and remained by her side throughout the war. Their love was never stronger.

After Daemon’s death, Rhaenyra asked Kaleb to marry her, and so they were wed in Northern fashion beneath the Weirwood tree in the Godswood of the Red Keep.

He was forced to watch when Rhaenyra was eaten alive by Sunfyre. He would have been killed next if it had not been for his granddaughter Vaella interceding on his behalf.

After the Dance, Kaleb remained in King’s Landing for a few years, both for his grandchildren who were still there and for Alicent. She was all he had left, and he couldn’t bear the thought of leaving her. He had Aegon III’s favor and was allowed to visit her on occasion, and when he was not, he would do it in secret. Their relationship only deepened, emotionally and romantically, and although Kaleb’s true love would always be Rhaenyra, he formed a very soft and tender spot in his heart for the Queen in Chains.

He ended up accidentally getting Alicent pregnant, which got them both into a lot of trouble. She eventually gave birth to a son, Brandon Waters, not long before her death (I’m still working on the timeline on this). Brandon would later go on to become Aegon III’s squire and an eventual knight.

When Alicent came down with Winter Fever, Kaleb stayed with her until the end.

After that, because of his relationship with Alicent and the conception of their son, Kaleb was forced to leave King’s Landing and return to Raven’s Keep for the rest of his life as punishment. The only reason that it was not more severe is because of what he did for Rhaenyra and what he meant to her, and because Aegon III cared about him as a father-figure in his life.

Kaleb grieved for Rhaenyra, Alicent, and his children for the rest of his life. He eventually died of old age, surrounded by family in Raven’s Keep.

However, in the version of this that I’m writing with my friend, he is actually sent to the Night’s Watch instead and becomes a White Walker after encountering the Night King while on a ranging mission Beyond the Wall.

Sarra x Aemon

The “please leave me alone I need to go cry” duo. Honestly they’d work just fine as friends so that also is a vibe, but Sarra is probably the perfect type of person to be married to Aemon bc she really couldn’t care less about what he’s up to. She doesn’t even really want to be there in the first place. That being said, I think they could bond over their more reserved personalities and also their respective trauma. Lots of sitting in comfortable silence, going about their own days, with no expectation of interaction but no aversion to it either.

Kaleb x Daenys

I mean, come on. These two would honestly probably be worse than Daenys and Tyland. They’re stupidly lovey-dovey and have a stupid amount of children.

In this universe, I think it would be that Kaleb falls for her instead of Rhaenyra and might actually attempt to marry her because it wouldn’t be nearly as hard to do that compared to marrying Rhaenyra. And they absolutely would be caught smooching and acting like lovesick teenagers all over the castle. It would be such a problem.

And Kaleb would let Daenys do pretty whatever she wanted because he’s that kinda guy.

Thank you for the ask I had a lot of fun with this one! Kind of did a continuation of these two asks here and here for Kaleb x Daenys because I love them

“Daenys, what are you doing here?”

The youngest Targaryen princess was standing beneath the heart tree, her long, silver-blonde hair cascading down her back as she toyed with the ruby ring on her pointer finger. She looked up at Kaleb as he spoke, her lilac eyes widening beneath her thick lashes, and a faint rosy color coming over her pretty porcelain cheeks.

“Why, I was coming to find you,” she answered shyly. “Rhaenyra said you were looking for me.”

“Oh,” Kaleb murmured, coming to a halt. “She did?” Heat pulsed beneath his skin, and he was sure that he was blushing.

“Yes, she did,” Daenys said with a nod. She fluttered her lashes coyly. “Is that true, Lord Dormaire?”

“It is, Princess,” Kaleb admitted. “There is uh, something I wished to tell you.”

Daenys smiled, that dazzling smile as if her teeth were precious pearls and her lips dainty petals of roses as luscious as plump summer cherries. She took a step towards him, the soft pink and gold silk of her dress swishing as she moved.

“Oh is there?” she asked, standing almost chest to chest with him. “What is it then? Spit it out.”

Kaleb traced his teeth with his tongue as he thought over his next words carefully. He did not want to say the wrong thing and ruin everything.

Daenys held him with her expectant gaze, her eyes searching his as she waited.

“I-I have feelings for you, Daenys,” he admitted after a pause. “I have for some time. You are the most beautiful and incredible woman I have ever met, and my heart belongs to you only. There is no one who compares. When I think of you, I am set alight, and it is a flame I wish to consume me. I love you, Daenys. To go another day without saying it would be to fall on mine own sword.”

Daenys’ mouth hung open, her expression one of astonishment. Then that same stunning smile returned, and her cheeks grew a deeper shade of pink.

“My, Kaleb, you do have a way with words,” she cooed softly.

She reached out, twirling her fingers through a strand of his hair. She looked at it, then back up into his eyes. Kaleb’s heart was pounding in his chest like a raven ready to take flight.

“I love you too, you know,” she said after a moment.

“Can I kiss you?” he asked suddenly.

“I thought you’d never ask,” Daenys replied, throwing her arms around him.

Kaleb leaned down, wrapping his own arm around Daenys’ waist as he pulled her into him. He pressed his lips to hers, and the raven in his heart took flight.

Therese + Dyana

Why do I feel like these two would be besties? They’re both strong women who are bastards (although Therese is legitimized), know how to defend themselves with a weapon, and just so happen to be in love with the same prince.

For the most part, Therese and Dyana would get along wonderfully, aside from a few exceptions: namely, the whole dragonseed thing and also Therese’s involvement with Criston, I would assume. Considering that Therese has almost as much of a problem with the dragonseeds as Jace, and Dyana becomes one, I think that would be a source of tension between them. Therese would feel like Dyana is betraying her own birthright and their friendship, although I think she’d eventually get over it. And with Criston, well I can’t imagine that Dyana would be too happy to find out her friend is having an affair with her dad.

Therese x Tristan

Ok but like why do I kind of love these two together though? I think that Therese and Tristan match each other’s personalities very well, and as conscious as Therese is of being a bastard, I don’t think that she’d have any issues being with one (I mean, Jace is obviously one too, but that’s a bit different). Even though he has the same name as her brother too, I don’t think she’d mind. It’s very Targaryen of her anyway. Since Tristan is part of the Kingsguard, I think that it’d end up being an affair between them, probably while Therese is still in King’s Landing during her marriage to Aegon. I think if that were the case, she would be involved with him instead of Criston. She might even try to convince him to leave the Kingsguard for her and run away to the North or something. I don’t know if they would have any kids together or not. I know Therese wouldn’t have a problem with it, but idk about Tristan. Once the Dance starts though, I don’t know how things would go between them. Therese is very strongly Team Black, and she would leave King’s Landing for Dragonstone, regardless of whether or not Tristan came with her. If he didn’t, it would completely break her heart to do so.

Deidre x Kaleb

I totally agree with your take on these two being friends from a young age and eventually getting married more out of duty than anything. Kaleb has a habit of doing that lol. That being said, I do think that Kaleb would eventually fall in love with her, even if it’s not as great a love as he has for Rhaenyra or Alicent, and that love would be strong. He would also treat her children as if they were his own because he isn’t the step-father, he is the father who stepped up.

Kaleb would have a lot of respect for Deidre and would try to be the best husband to her that he can be because he knows that he owes her that much.

i've seen so many of your posts about soaring higher + as the raven flies and i'm desperate to hear more about (at least) one of them!!

Ahhhh thank you so much for the ask I could talk about both of these fics for hours!

Soaring Higher is my hotd fic spawned from a collab with my friend (much like As the Raven Flies), and it focuses on three different OCs, Kaleb Dormaire and his children, Tristan and Therese during the Dance of Dragons. They all get involved in the Targaryen family drama, and it’s so wonderful and tragic and I love it.

Kaleb has romantic ties with both Rhaenyra (the mother of his children) and Alicent, which leads to a lot of complexity for all three of them that I am absolutely obsessed with and cannot wait to get into writing. Therese is involved with several men (ahem, Aegon and Criston) before ultimately finding happiness with Jacaerys that is very short lived, while Tristan has a very sweet and very tragic forbidden romance with Helaena. They all warm my heart and make me want to cry at the same time because ahhh they all deserve happy lives and none of them get it.

As the Raven Flies is my GoT fic that is basically just an excuse for me to write ocs to romance most of my favorite characters in the show because I can. The four main characters are all siblings and are actually descendants of the Soaring Higher Dormaire cast: Alistair, Nadya, Victyr, and Erwyn Dormaire. Nadya is technically the main character (she very much began as a self-insert, although she has evolved since then), but my boys have also started to grab some of the spotlight for themselves.

In that one, we’ve got Alistair x Daenerys, Nadya x Robb/Jon, Victyr x Sansa, and Erwyn x Arya (among many others). I love them all so much, and I have so much brainrot for them!

Each sibling follows a really different path, which I think is very fun. Alistair goes from the eldest son of a powerful Northern house to a lone adventurer to a king before losing it all. Nadya grows into a strong and capable leader despite the hardships she endures. Victyr learns how to play the game to survive and ultimately win. Erwyn discovers that he is more than just a bastard and reaches his full (maybe a little bit magical) potential. They all have such unique character arcs, and I love it for them.

Honestly, there’s so much more to these fics that I could talk about it, but then this post would go on forever lol. If you want to know about any characters or storylines in particular, I’d be happy to rant about them some more lol
