Let us begin with the moment where they made their first mistake.

[so many SPOILERS for AGATHA ALL ALONG 1.05]

"We got to get off The Road."

Remind me again... what was rule number one about straying from the path?

Was it mayhaps... not to?

Yeah, I think it's from this point on that they made themselves TRULY vulnerable to the Salem Seven. Not to say that they had much choice, they would definitely have been caught and killed otherwise, but if there are Rules that protect them on The Road itself while between the Trials then leaving that road negates that.

Second mistake. Flying through the Bee-Swarm Of Nightmares.

Also probably the moment the Salem Seven took hold of the next "Trial" (I'm not going to go into the hints about this not being a real Trial that have been noticed by lots of other people here and described better than I ever could, suffice to say that I absolutely agree).

Also of significant note is that after they "escape" the Salem Seven there's still the sound of a buzzing insect that Agatha has to shake out of her hair. So it's a safe bet that they didn't truly slam the doors in the faces of their hunters.

They have eyes on them at the very least.

And then of course they get to the point where they get told what they're supposed to do to escape this Trial is to punish Agatha.

There's two ways that can be looked at. Either this is a legit Trial and they are supposed to come together and remain a united Coven ("Burn and brew with coven true, and glory shall be thine"). Or the Salem Seven are in charge and this is the perfect way to make Agatha face the betrayal of her new Coven the way she betrayed the Coven of their mothers' (which is bullshit actually, I'd say being put to death as an eighteen year old by her own mother puts her pretty firmly in the 'betrayed' camp then too, but we're talking how the Salem Seven would see it).

And if this was a real trial... why would them turning on each other and Agatha killing Alice give them a door?

But I'm getting ahead of myself. At first the really big moment that felt really weird to me was this here.

"What do they want?" "They already told us. Punish Agatha!"

Yes, Jen has the strongest case of a survival instinct in the whole Coven (barring maybe Agatha) but the abruptness of the turn into aggressive Burn The Witch mentality was just... iffy.

It felt more like Classic Under a Spell reaction than something that feels truly in character (something along the lines of that Buffy episode where Joyce and Willow's mom almost burned Buffy and Willow at the stake because of the demonic Hansel and Gretel).

Unconvinced?

Explain then to me this face? This one right here? Right after Jen tells them what the voices screaming in their ears want and the voices... stop.

That is way too creepily pleased for it to be Jen just freaking out and deciding to do what the ghosts want.

Being conflicted and going with the highest chances to live through this would make sense. But smile?

And not even a relieved smile, because that looks way more 'possessed by an evil entity' type of smile (or at least possessed by the feelings of the evil entity smile).

And here's the deal. I do think everyone is exactly who they are, and it's not just a vision in Lilia's head, or an illusion just for Agatha, or anything of the sort.

But I also think that there are certain moments where they get... influenced by an outside party.

And then Agatha's mother possesses Agatha for a second time and Agatha kills Alice.

Basically wrapping everything up with a nice bow to show 'look, see? I was totally right to hate my daughter since birth, see how evil she is? You should hate her too. You should finish what I started'.

Now. I'm not saying this "Trial" won't have consequences. I am however saying that this might not be as bad as it looks like right now (fingers crossed we haven't seen the last of Alice).

I know that some people feel sort of conflicted about the reveal about the witches’ road but I’d like to present my thoughts on the matter.

[spoilers bellow]

The witches’ road being a construct of Wiccan does not take away from the journeys that happened on it. The road was not real, but Jennifer making potions without magic and breaking the bindings on herself were real things she went through. Alice learned of her mother’s real intentions behind her version of the Ballad and broke a generational curse. Lilia embraced the parts of being a witch that scared her the most and completed her “out of time” path. Billy brought Tommy’s soul to the world of the living. Even Agatha faced her greatest traumas, her mother and her son.

Like yes, the setting was constructed by Billy, but the spiritual and emotional journeys that these witches went through still has meaning.

has anyone else felt like they're a "mosaic" of the coven?

for example

i feel most like agatha when I'm teaching my students or pouring myself over research or make a sarcastic joke. i see lilia in me when I'm practicing tarot or when i get lost in my head. i feel most like jen when I'm having trouble remembering my self worth (and when I'm doing my skincare routine). i think of Alice when I play the piano, chat with my mom or getting protective over my friends, i remember sharon when I cook and billy when i still feel like a kid angry at the world sometimes. i channel rio when I walk through the woods or looking up at stormy skies and remember all the people I've loved and lost. And I feel at home.

Warning this going to be a Agatha all along rant so be aware of spoilers and mostly at the mess it's going to be as I have no point to make just thoughts running around my mind.

Okay so I have some beef about Agatha's trial, at first I thought maybe it wasn't actually hers but now I know it is but I also feel like she failed it. Not because she was incapable of doing it but because she didn't get any support during her trial.

The road test the entire coven, it gives a trial for each witches, the first trial was for Jen, the second for Alice (RIP), the third Agatha's and the last Lilia's (Our queen gone too soon 😭). However I don't think the road only test them as individuals but as a group. They have to face their biggest fears, be confronted with their failure in a way, but they are not doing it alone. The road test their ability to work together as a true coven (like the ballad says). Jen would not have remembered the last ingredient without Agatha's help, Alice would not have ended the cursed without the help of the entire coven and even Lilia said she needed them, her coven. However during Agatha's trial she was alone against all of them, except Billy.

It was made clear at the end when Alice saved Agatha that they needed to banish her mom, that was the task of this trial to help Agatha confront her biggest fear, which would have ended far differently if they had tried to save her from the start, if they had acted like a real coven and didn't try to abandonned one of them.

They made that mistake once during the first task when they didn't give Sharon the antidote, she was not part of the coven so it was obvious she was going to die at some point but they still forgot about her, she was part of the group.

That's why I think they only passed Agatha's trial on a technicality cause it only because Alice instinctively tried to save Agatha but not because they actually wanted to save her.

Which is an entire other bullshit that get me mad cause from the moment they end up on the road Agatha was the one getting them to overcome their fear. She's the one that remind Jen she's more than her power cause she has the knowledge to back her up. She even encouraged Alice to sing to break the curse and she was genuinely worried about Billy when he got hurt even if she knew he wasn't her son. She cared so much about all of them and wanted them to finish the road with her. She never wanted them to die. Just like she didn't want her first coven to die when they attempted the road either. From the beginning we can see she doesn't want to be there which make sense cause clearly the road was a traumatic experience for her and she's trying to not relive the same experience with this new coven. And yet when it was her turn to need the support of her coven, they didn't even try and went straight to abandoning her. It was obvious how toxic Agatha's mom was and still is even in death and yet they didn't care. Alice death took over (as sad as it was) even if Agatha can't control those powers. She did not want to kill Alice.

But the road somehow knew their was still more to this coven than what we see at first glance and I think that's why even if they were thrown off the road and should've die there, the road let Agatha, Jen and Lilia live, and lead Lilia and Jen to the next trial, but before that it tested them again, they had a choice to make, save their own lives and leave the road while they can or keep going and saving Billy and Agatha. They could have left, they could've chose to be selfish but they didn't and that's what the road was hoping for, giving them a chance to right the wrongs of the last trial and become the true coven they were meant to be.

Okay, why do I feel there's a history between Jen and Mephisto?

So, here it goes. Bear with me alright.

Here, 'he' could be a different person but I'm going with what the story's telling and assuming that 'he' is The Doctor. In line with that, and for Jen to work with/for The Doctor, he would have to deal with something supernatural, about which he may or may not know. There could be two ways the binding would have worked: he stupidly binds Jen or knowingly binds her to him.

However, when Jen spoke, she was distressed. That could only imply that The Doctor was more powerful than he let Jen know. There's also a possibility that she knew his powers and offered her services not knowing that he would bind her powers in future. But I'm not talking about the 2nd possibility.

I strongly feel that The Doctor was Mephisto or his servant or whatever. because how would a mortal man (I'm assuming a lot here) bind a witch's power? Especially when that witch was once revered in her community (In Ep 1, Lilia called Jen 'high priestess'. She wouldn't be calling her that if Jen wasn't powerful or revered).

TL;DR: I believe that The Doctor from Jen's nightmare was Mephisto.

HI!! omg that's totally understandable I've also been busy. I have classes still but they end in a couple of months.

Honestly ever since October I've just been kind of out of the groove but with Spring coming I've been feeling less sick and down. I'm not much into haikyuu anymore but once the movies come out I think I'll be back to fan girling over it LOL-

I've been really into MHA now though!! I plan on redoing my entire blog and base it off of that!! Do you like MHA? I don't remember if I've seen some stuff about it on your blog.

I rarely use this app anymore but I hope to get back into writing or at least reading more. I still have notifications for your blog on and read your stuff time to time but I rarely ever interact with anything 😭 all my time goes to discord (which by the way, I still have you added I just realized)

omg kale! i missed you here! i've been busy with lectures (it's difficult to explain it) so i haven't been writing recently, for about more than a week i think? lectures were stressful so i turned to my og stress reliever since 1st grade lol which is drawing/doodling/sketching. i have quite a number if sketches here and there so yep that kinda makes me feel happy :)
