pope wants to travel the world one day. he's never been outside the outer banks, let alone the state or country, so traveling the world either solo or with the pogues is a dream of his. just him and his best friends, seeing and trying new things and experiencing other cultures seems like it would be amazing!

pope is a huge star wars nerd! i can't remember if this is canon or even mentioned in the show at all but i think he's such a big nerd about the movies. he watched them with his dad when he was a kid and they've held a special place in his heart ever since. he dressed up as some sort of star wars character for halloween every year and he makes it a habit to rewatch the movies at least once a year too. and if he gets the chance to go to disneyland he's definitely building his own custom lightsaber.

pope is a great artist. sketching is a way for him to relax and unwind, and he has books upon books full of drawings he's done of anything and everything that gave him a bit of inspiration. on slow days at heyward's seafood, he'll sit behind the counter and sketch the hours away til his dad pulls him away to do a delivery.

Oh boy, friends, this one's a doozy in the best possible way. Make sure to read the trigger warnings on this fic but if you know you can read it without any risks, please do.

Valk, I forgot how much I love this fic. I remember the first time I read it was actually before I even started this ask game; I think it might have even been one of the first few Bakugo fics I ever read. I identified with it at the time and I identify with it even more now. It just means a lot to me; thank you for writing it and for being "vulnerable" and open enough to post it.

I tried to make this playlist with a good balance of sad songs (sometimes you just gotta give in and cry) but also songs that give the vibe of "the horrors persist but so do I" because I think that's the real message within this fic. It's important to hold space for all our human emotions. Anyways, I hurt my own feelings with the music in a good way so I hope it fits your wonderful story <3

It really seems that for some people it was very difficult to grasp the true message of Saeran's after ending. They were so confused that they assumed that Cheritz was again trying to impose forgiveness on the players as the only option to get a good ending (as happened with the after ending of V).

Geez, didn't they see that Saeyoung didn't choose to forgive anyone? MC never says they forgive anyone in AE (here we were allowed to be neutral and in the end it will be our choice to forgive or not to forgive but we are never forced to go towards an extreme we don't like), even RFA, they have their own feelings about it, they felt disappointed by V and Rika. They are not that explicit but they imply that their friendship with them is over.... and it's wrong if they don't forgive them? of course not! If that's how they feel and they find another way to be at peace without an apology in between that's fine! And if they choose to do otherwise that's also very well. It is their choice.

They are within their rights to choose how they feel and how they want to move forward. Saeran made his choice, Saeyoung made his choice, RFA made their choice.... You can make your choice too. No one here is wrong, the only thing that will always be very wrong is judging others because they made a different choice than you, man it doesn't affect you. what's the problem? You don't have to agree but remember to respect others choices just like your choices should also be respected.

I've said the same thing over and over again since the After Ending came out. I think the struggle for some people comes from the basic understanding of what it means to forgive. It seems like a lot of folks view this as a black-and-white situation wherein saying that you will forgive someone means that you're saying what happened to you is now water under the bridge and you're willing to open your life up to that person. But, that's only one kind of forgiveness and acceptance.

There are hundreds more and it depends on what feels right to you that changes that outcome. Everyone has to decide what they'll get out of a situation like this. Do you want an apology? Do you want to say you forgive them to find closure? Is forgiveness asking for a way to see them again? Do you want to hold onto your feelings? Do you want nothing to do with them ever again?

All of these and more are included in the realm of your feelings. You have to choose what feels right. For Saeran, forgiveness was a way to eventually forgive himself. Choosing to forgive his abusers gave him a pathway to forgive himself for what he did to the members of the RFA, and more importantly, his MC. He wants nothing to do with V, Rika, or his father. But, finding peace was seeing them one last time to finish that chapter.

Saeyoung isn't forgiving anyone. He will hate them until the day he dies and beyond. He holds grudges and it won't hinder him in any healing process to feel that way. He's not hurting himself and he isn't hurting anyone else by hating them for what they did. He's allowed to feel that way. Just like Saeran is allowed to feel his way.

The RFA has its own feelings, which are even more varied than Saeran and Saeyoung. That's what's beautiful about that ending. There are no more secrets and everyone has the choice to decide what they want to do going forward and nobody shames them for those feelings. Just as it should be. If you don't want to forgive Rika, V, or Saejoong, don't.

Don't forgive them.

But, don't shame anyone else who chose to do so. Saeran isn't stupid or wrong for choosing what he did. He did what felt to him and we're all entitled to do the same for ourselves. That's the beauty of free will and that's what he deserves. What we all deserve.

nuts reading trigun in japanese 6 - kaite's foreshadowing. plant synchronization's downside

remember in my part 3 and 5 i was talking about hierarchy? surprisingly, it continues past chapter 8 with kaite. and wolfwood. triangulating nyoom

(to be honest... ive been doing these read and analysis completely blind in a 1st JP read through. so its possible ill find new nuances, get things wrong as the context shifts and changes, so my stuff looks like its scattered all over the place. sorry about that.)

i think ill start explaining names and meanings. kaite's name in japanese is kaito. カイト. this can be a homonym with i think 怪盗 (kaitou) in this case, which means phantom thief. for trying to help Neon with stealing loot from the Sand Steamer.

^the headaches with manga translations has always been to keep texts short and reasonable for flow and readability, so these simplifications can and sometimes must happen.

but, add dakutens, the " on 2 of those カイト katakanas and suddenly, kaito turns into. ガイド gaido. Guide.

so Kaite has been playing as a guide to lead vash to his death at the hands of Neon. this page is such a fucking whammy with the wordplay going on. if you just read this in japanese theres a moment of "oh shit, no way, Kaite, vash just told you to stop betraying people! what the hell!"

yet theres a level of trust going on already, so its not as bad as it seems

nightow really likes his worldplay. i really like this page.

kaite redeems himself by later charging into the boiler room and helps turn the valve to stop the sand steamer from running off cliff and killing everyone on board....

hm. a guide. and those sequences

we sure have a lot of guides here. one who appears in the manga later with a kansai dialect. and another in TriStamp, where he is younger than he appears.

when i spoke about hierarchy and the fact that vash is over 150, i was also kind of hinting that all of current humanity are akin to children in the system of JP hierarchy. that takes on extra meaning with a little change of context and language

wolfwood is filling in the shoes of kaito here in tristamp. and within trimax, kaito foreshadows him. incredible.

theres actually more going on with wolfwood and certain design/changes choices i wanna talk about with tristamp but ill save it for another day. maybe when i run into him in this read later

Plant Synchronization downside.

....so theres a bad downside to vash synchronizing with the plant that i didn't catch. which also answers what the fuck was going on in tristamp when that version of him hits the ground

nightow mentions this in an interview, link here posted and transcribed by xoxo-otome (thank you!) that he likes action flicks and has incorporated a lot of action into his work. and its true. there is so much action in the form of sound effects.

reading through the entire manga and paying attention to the sfx peppered around offers a lot more context to whats happening in half of the panels that seemingly doesnt make sense

like this one where the top panel has "DADADADADA" sfx. so they're stomping down the corridor with their guns crossed and facing each other. the "GO OH" in the bottom panel emphasizes the sudden burst into open air. unfortunately, anyone who values their life and sanity in this economy will not want to translate trigun's sfxs 100%.

i should have paid more attention when reading trigun in english. but i didn't so here i am. in the trigunbookclub tag now doing this.

why is it important? here. this. below. when vash does his plant thing with his sister:

thats Dokun, the sound effect of a heart thumping. as vash synchronizes, the heart panels with the same sound effect appear, but they gradually split apart further with ellipses "..." to signify his heart beat slowing down. and down. and down....

Likely to take home a stray animal:

KAI FOR SURE He loves handling random specimens. He gets attached to items within like 3 seconds animals are no different. He'd take pretty much anything tbh but I feel like he'd find the most fucked up looking thing in the world and bring it home and Nate would be like Boy what is this.

Nate on the other hand would probably take an animal home if only to help it if it's injured and then send it to a shelter/back into the wild (depending on what it needs).

Better Cook/Better Baker:

NATE IS BETTER AT BOTH, he had to learn how to both cook and bake for Lia and his sake early on so... and Kai cannot be trusted around a stove sadly. It will always turn into chaos. Always. So he mostly takes to helping Nate prepare/set up things and essentially do smaller easier to miss tasks and doing the actual cooking/baking With Nate instead of on his own.

Comfort Meal:

Hi, tysm for asking!

3. What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed?

The process might not be cursed, but the space is SO cursed. That quote about the two wolves? That’s my home office. One side is very work-oriented and reserved for my day job: clean desk, desktop computer with only a few tabs open, minimal additional adornment, a single precious potted plant. The other side? A horrible, uneven surface made of warped spare lumber and various boxes that act as table legs. Laptop from the dawn of time with 3500 tabs open. Cork board. Second Cork board. White board. Skeins of red yarn. Thumbtacks, sticky notes, it’s a real murder-she-wrote. Every day I perch my coffee mug precariously on a stack of books covered in those sticky tabs that mark out all the quotes I want to burden other people with, and get to work. I cross bits off my printed outline as I go, throwing everything into a single Google Doc where I use highlighted paragraphs to mark out the beginning and end of each chapter I’m currently working on. Yellow for the start of the chapter, green for the end. I can’t, for the life of me, figure out how to create a linked index. (Experts, feel free to weigh in if you find this too disgusting to bear). The Cmnd+find function no longer works once I’ve reached a certain character limit, so I make sticky notes for myself (like a little Rennaisance-era scribe) of anything I want to call back to or bring up later in the story. Do I know that I can search straight in AO3 for terms/phrases/quotes? Yes. Do I do this? Of course not. I have one brain cell, and I use it to imagine gay things. This also means that I need absolute silence to write, not even a lo-fi study playlist in the background. I’m a cave-dwelling beasty and I require dim lighting, silence, and 3-5 cups of coffee to most deliciously enjoy my writing, which I spend around four hours a day doing, in hour-long chunks. I am a blight :)

10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?

Yes! I am constantly haunted by writing, and in particular the writing of Shirley Jackson, Denusha Laméris, and Mary Oliver, to name a few. It’s usually poetry that sticks in my brain and follows me around, rather than bits from novels (though this has exceptions). Philip’s Birthday by Mary Oliver is one that I’ve currently been microwaving in my brain, and a poem by Kait Rokowski, (which I’m not sure has a name, so I’ll type it out below, it's short)—

I do not keep meat in my home

Because cooking soft flesh feels like

I am betraying my girlhood

I do not want to watch something so pink

Become appetizing

I think of haunting like “being followed”, or reminded of something at inappropriate times (while in a meeting, during a conversation about literally anything else, etc.), so writing that haunts me is often stuff that ends up walking around with me for years and years, even after I think I’ve forgotten about it. My own writing though? Nah, not really. I don’t think about my writing usually, unless I’m actively doing it, or trying to solve a problem in a story. 

(Also, I’ve gotten another request for this answer, so I’ll save a few haunts for that reply too).

17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.

Hi, I’m here with the spicy, spicy cuts of TBSCM :) I’ve already spilled so much tea in the comments of the fic re: the various lit inspirations, so instead I will leave you a chunk of writing that will never make it into the fic because it was cut for time. It was one of the little pseudo-dates that would have happened when Patty came to visit Allison in Gorham. To set the stage: Allison convinces Patty that it's a good idea to go fishing at dusk in Moose Brook Park (with some equipment she’s borrowed from Irene’s late husband’s collection)—

Flickering blips of yellow light glint off the calm surface of the water as fireflies wander lazily over the lake. Allison sits next to Patty on the bank, growing more and more dismayed as she flips through the pages of The Complete Book of Fishing Knots, Leaders, and Lines by Lindsey Philpott. She’s searching for something that will hold a worm in place without her having to press the hook through its soft, red flesh. She looks down at the unhelpful index and sighs.

“What’s wrong?” Patty asks, taking a sip of wine from the flask Allison had stuffed into her purse before they left the apartment on this ridiculous fool's errand.

“I don’t…” She doesn’t have to finish the sentence for Patty to know what the problem is.

Patty dead-eyes her, groaning. “Seriously?”

“What!”

“This is so stupid,” Patty says, snatching the worm from her and stabbing the sharp end of the hook into it. The outer layer of skin breaks the way a grapeskin might—popping, oozing with its guts, a red smear dripping down Patty’s thumb as she rolls the worm up the shank as easily as she might do with a lifeless macaroni noodle. 

Allison grimaces… but she doesn’t look away. Something about watching Patty’s fingers deftly thread the worm’s body along the glinting metal transfixes her. 

Patty catches her watching, and she isn’t sure why it makes her own face burn with embarrassment. 

“Why do you know how to do that?” Allison asks, her eyes still glued to the wriggling worm, its blood oozing out onto Patty’s fingers.

Patty just shrugs, letting go of the hook abruptly so that it dangles there on the line between them, the worm wriggling helplessly, struggling. Patty wipes her fingers on the grass, then on her pants, gesturing for Allison to cast the line into the water. 

Allison looks away, but does as she’s told.

“What are you gonna do when there’s a fish on there?” Patty asks her.

Allison swallows hard. “I’m…”

Patty isn’t sure if it happens on purpose, but she feels the gentle pressure of Allison’s shoulder leaning against hers as they listen to the distant croak of the summer frogs bellyaching for each other in the weeds. Without another word, Allison reels in the line. She pries the worm from the end of the hook and lets Patty toss it away into the grass. She doesn't know what she would do if she actually caught something... but she's afraid she might discover that some twisted, buried part of her likes it too much. Better not to know, Allison thinks to herself. Better not to find out.

Hey Kait so um i have a one shot request....and yeah its yoosung centric ofc

Can i have a fic where MC has an emotional outburst over his self sacrificial shit. Cuz idk i dont like the idea of seeing my partner constantly trying to prove himself to be "worthy of love" and not recognising how much MC values him as well.

The context could be any situation where he had gotten badly hurt cuz of his stupid hero complex. It could be like in the aftermath of Bad Ending 3 where he got badly hurt someway or somewhere after the good/normal ending. This guy really makes me insane

Yoosung never expected to see tears of frustration in your eyes when he saw you again. He never expected to you see again, actually, but it stung all the same to see you cry over him. You were happy he was in one piece, of course, but after you embraced him and wept at how it pained you to not know whether he was dead or alive, you cried at his choices that caused his capture to happen to begin with.

You cried at his decision to throw his life away.

He didn't think about his well-being. He didn't think about what his life was worth. He didn't think about anything that mattered at that moment when there were a hundred other choices that could've been made. He sacrificed his life and safety to not only let Seven get away from that place, but in the name of protecting the RFA members and most of all, you. He didn't think about trying to come up with another plan.

He decided his only choice was to give up his life in the name of what he believed to be the greater good. Even though you told him that he could make others choices, that he could do something different for himself, and that he could've listened to the others, not just Seven in what to do next. You were thankful that he was willing to take a risk to protect you, but at every corner, you sobbed, at every corner he tried to something that would cause him to lose his life or lose everything in the process.

Yoosung didn't have to lose his life to have your love or your respect. You were proud of him as he was. You understood that he wanted to help Seven protect you, but it didn't change the fact that he didn't... he didn't think! He jumped to the most extreme answer no matter the outcome because he wanted to prove himself to be capable as your hero!

As someone who could take care of you just as much as anyone else could. But, you didn't need a hero!

You needed Yoosung!

"I didn't need you to throw your life away for me, Yoosung!"

"He would've hurt you if I didn't do something!"

"You didn't have to try to die to protect me, Yoosung! There are other choices, there are always other choices you can make! Do you think I wanted you to get hurt because of me? I didn't! I never wanted you to risk your life for me to begin with! You don't need to be superhero for me! You don't have to be strong the way you think you do!" You wept, arms trembling at your sides as you held yourself tightly.

"I want you to be with me so we can stand side by side! I want to be strong with you! I don't want to walk behind you while you take any risks that come our way! I am so happy to know you love me, that it doesn't matter what comes your way, you'll always try to be there to save me, but I don't love that your first reaction is to throw your life away! It's like you want to die, Yoosung! You didn't think about what came next! You thought about what a hero would do!"

His face fell as he stared at his lap and bandaged hands that seemed to mock him now. He was only trapped at Mint Eye for a matter of... a two weeks but those two weeks had been hell. It felt like the pain the man gave him would never end... but he thought... he thought that a villain would make good on their promise to not go further than that deal. But, he thought wrong.

Because, if he was a man of his word, Seven wouldn't have had to have saved you in the nick of time from the apartment before it...

It crumbled.

What good was a sacrifice if it was never a sacrifice to begin with?

"But... if Seven stayed..."

"Seven has combat training," you added. "He knows how to fight bad guys! If you would've distracted that guy long enough, he could have done something so you wouldn't have had to even consider what you did! What if, what if, what if! You didn't even consider what if! You did what you thought would make you a hero! You are my hero, because you were willing to face danger for me, but... you didn't have to try to die to be my hero! Being a hero doesn't mean you throw your life out the window every time danger calls!"

...It didn't?

But, how could he be worthy of you if he didn't prove it?

1st: Thanks for answering my questions! ^u^ I've actually asked some on here before, they're just hard to find due to tumblr's search function not being 100% accurate.

2nd: Just purely a headcanon idea but was curious on your thought, Orange (or another unused color) Materia with it acting as a "Bag of Holding" (either alone or paired on a pouch's Materia slot) to explain how the party can gain & hold what they have without needing a trolley to tote & how Yuffie easily gets ALL their stuff at Kalm ("Disc 2" start) or how Shinra confiscates their stuff (at the execution attempt/"Disc 3" start) to have an easier justification of the inventory reset per part.

3rd: Reading one of your posts stating Reeve is an Inspire, according to the wiki (mostly from a quick Google search), it was only an early draft idea. Granted this next bit I think might be an opinion or another theory, but I heard that they could use the Shinra VR technology to explain Kait Sith, like Reeve is using a remote headset (like what Cloud wears for the VR Challenges given by Chadley) & controlling the bot via wifi. For the big Moogle, maybe just be a "Simple A.I. ride mech" thing?

Idk if this is accurate, but I believe it's stated somewhere that materia changes size so it can fit anything it's put into, so that explains why it's big and small. As for supplies, we're supposed to believe the various pockets and whatnot on the characters are big enough to fit their stuff. I really don't think it needs much thought beyond that.

It's not an early draft, it's in the ultimania scenario info. The bottom left box with Reeve and Scarlet. The text explains he's an inspire that can bring inanimate objects to life. Although, again, this seems like a convenient explanation over something well thought out. The devs needed a reason it was Reeve, but also had to have a reason why it didn't talk or act like Reeve. Since his ability is never used in anything besides Cait Sith, I doubt they expanded on the premise. Even in Dirge it doesn't become an issue, so unless people start making it one, I think they'll leave it alone.
