Prompt #25: Awoken
Another night, another dream. Ketsuchi was lucky that most dreams passed him by without the slightest recollection of what he had imagined in his sleep. Only on rare occasion did he remember what he had dreamed, and tonight was not a night where he could remember any specifics. In this case that almost made things worse, as the small reminder of what his dream had revolved around still lingered in his head. It wasn’t the first night this had happened and it was unlikely to be the last, given his current state of confusion with the woman.
Kailani had left him in a state of confusion after their last meeting. She was someone he had been able to get a read on from the very beginning, from the moment he blackmailed her into doing a job for him. This last time had been different though. He hadn’t expected to run into her on the dock in Kugane, he hadn’t expected her string of...unexpected requests. She seemed off kilter, and somehow that had pushed him into a place where his curiosity got the better of him.
She was a strange one, and he couldn’t quite wrap his head around the sudden change in her approach to him. It was more then just her approach to him though; it had been the way he had also approached her. The Seeker struck a nerve deep down in his blackened heart. She was kind, but stern. Sweet, but direct. She stumbled over her words and her own feet as often as she was able to walk a straight line. She was confident, but also a klutz. The woman had somehow managed to permeate his dreams and left a perpetual feeling of confusion buried in Ketsuchi’s mind.
He reached up with his right hand to scratch at the back of his head as he let his thoughts wander around the topic. He hadn’t done anything special, nor had she. It was more or less what many would consider a normal encounter, if a bit romantic to those unaware of how the two felt about one another. Ketsuchi saw her as a useful tool, one that could be used again if need be. She saw him as…
What did she see him as?
She had every right to hate him, to get sick at his very presence, and yet she did not. She invited him along to her little crisis she was having and had him take part in it all. Why? It didn’t make any sense. Nothing in the past would have told him that was something she would do. It was illogical and spontaneous, both things he hated. No matter how he looked at it he just couldn’t understand her reasoning for wanting him to be the one who came along. Perhaps it was just because he was there.
Yes, that had to be it.
He was convenient, and that was all. It made sense when he thought of it in those terms, but it was also what followed the strange actions from the woman that made him more confused. This time with himself. He had trusted her. Trusted her words, trusted she wouldn’t try to touch or harm him. He had, for whatever reason, shown her a shred of trust reserved for no one. It wasn’t something he gave out, nor was it something he had truly thought he still possessed. She had somehow coaxed it out of him, and he wasn’t exactly sure how.
It made him sick to his stomach to think he had done such a thing, and with someone like her of all people. Someone who seemed so simple and easy to read. Someone who showed him respect but demanded it in turn. Someone who wouldn’t just bend to what he wanted. She was a challenge and in a way he respected that - no...he enjoyed it. He enjoyed the challenge that rarely presented itself.
The Seeker smiled to himself in the pitch black room. He laid his head back down as he let out a long, exasperated sigh. He wasn’t going to open up to this woman, even if he did somehow see her again. She reminded him of the woman he had lost in more ways then one. Her personality was similar, if a bit more stand-offish. That could be attributed to the way they had met though and not her actual way of treating him. Despite that though, she had tended to his wounds. She had helped him recover from more then one injury. She hadn’t stabbed him in his sleep.
The woman was more of an enigma then he gave her credit for. He didn’t even know if the way she acted was planned out or not. It seemed too sporadic to be a real attempt at manipulating him, nor did he think she was really capable of something like that.
Ketsuchi closed his eyes, turning off his brain as best he could and focusing on the sound of the waves crashing on the shore beneath his apartment. There was no point thinking on it too much. Going round and round in his head wouldn’t produce any results and it would only serve to deprive him of more sleep. The woman had already done enough of that this night with the memory of her unpredictable behavior.
If their paths crossed again, he wouldn’t be so kind. She had blindsided him with her behavior and the comparison he unintentionally drew to Casi. She had drudged up a memory he didn’t care to think about, one that had been buried for a long time now. Kailani wouldn’t be the person to remind him of her after so long.
He couldn’t trust her. He couldn’t trust anyone.

The Start of a Beautiful… Something? (Part 2)
Continued from here!
He'd given her too much warning and she side stepped it easily, closing the distance enough to level a punch at his head. He was faster than his friends and whipped his head back, leaving her fist barely grazing his nose. He stepped backwards away from her, yanking his trident back with him, and the spikes on his trident where there was normally just the curved underside, took a chunk out of one of her hips. The Roe grunted and then laughed, grabbing hold of his nasty weapon, she twisted and yanked, but this sahagin maintained his grip. She was now certain why he was the leader of his crew.
The fishback made to kick her, obviously expecting her to let go of his weapon. This was a maneuver she expected though, and she held onto the trident shoving it and herself to the side. His kick grazed her undamaged hip and she made mental note of the sting in her gouged one as her body twisted. She was slightly impressed by the damage he had done, but that only made her want to kick his ass more. She considered continuing to push his trident out away from him, but she was certain he'd just turn with her, so instead she shoved down on his trident, and brought her foot down on it midway between the sahagain's grip and the ground. The shaft was crafted of metal and she knew she wouldn't break it, but she did manage to surprise her foe enough and offered enough force, that it finally wrested the weapon free of his hands. The fishback took long enough to right himself that Aliiza pressed her advantage. Coming in with a combo of punches she forced him back away from his weapon to keep him from recovering it, a couple of her punches even making excellent contact, one on his face, and one his abdomen.
Kai's carbuncle bounded up the steps finally catching up with the girl, no sooner then its paws touched down he jumped shooting off a small ball of aether towards a fishback that was following in behind them. The growl lingered in her chest as her fingers dug into the edge of the book. The quatermaster's attention was held by a few of their own while more Sahagins surrounded the captain. Kai ducked narrowly missing a poorly aimed shot from one of the crew. Her book glowed before she fired two cannon size balls of aether towards the beast who had a blade to the captains neck, it crumbled to its knees the captain finally catching sight of Kai. They exchange only brief glances before Kai's view was blocked by a trident. The sahagin hissed at her, a warning to not interfere, a warning that she ignored. Another spell was being cast only to be reflected off the weapon before the beastman charged at her.
The sahagin leader hissed as Aliiza’s attack forced him backwards and he swung dirty claws forward. His reach was short of the Roedagyn’s however and he only managed to graze her abdomen as she continued to press her attack. Crimson dripped from the wounds but only seemed to spark a larger fire in the woman’s storm green eyes. She dropped down using a hand to steady herself after the dual hip injuries and swept a leg out to remove his from under him. He obviously wasn’t expecting the move and scrambled backwards too slowly, falling back. She stood back up and unleashed a series of attacks, pressing her advantage. Her first step down was greeted with a loud crack as she broke a bone in his lower leg. She kicked his abdomen causing him to double over, ensuring her earlier punch wouldn’t be minimal damage. The internal bleeding would be a lot for any healer to deal with, assuming she let him live long enough. He moved faster than she expected in his panic and jerked his head back, grabbing her foot as it headed towards his face. He twisted her leg around and forced her to adjust her balance, ripping more flesh free in stripes with his claws as she freed herself from his grasp. Hobbling up he hollered a gurgled call to his nearby friends.
Kai slid to the side, the deck slick with fallen crew and beasts blood, she moved but not fast enough. The edge of the trident grazing her upper arm, causing her to pinch her grimoire shut. She needed to put distance between them but it was crowded and she didn't have much time. Her carbuncle turned its attention and stayed put as she moved, the beast was focused on its target it failed to notice the summon, stumbling over it. It was enough to give her time to cast a spell without having the correct page, a spell she knew and could focus on. The Sahagin's body twisted as shot of aether caught its shoulder pushing him over the rails and towards the main deck. Her attention snapped back to the captain and the fishback with the blade. Eyes locking and squawks of warning if she stepped closer they would kill him. She paused her step, the threat was real, she could tell by the fear in the captain's eye. Hot burning sensation ran through the scars on her right shoulder as crimson started to soak her shirt, a small whimper followed by a yip from her carbuncle.
The sahagin leader's calls for help were met with hesitancy from his comrades. He had wanted a fight alone and after seeing what Aliiza had done to him, they were reluctant to help now. Several of them suddenly found other directions to head in. She grinned unpleasantly at him and was about to step in to him again when she heard a carbuncle's fretting yip. Having seen only the one carbuncle on the ship, she turned her attention back over her shoulder in the direction of Kai. Her eyes simultaneously took in the bleeding on the girl and a sahagin who had meant to sneak up on her. Growling she snapped his trident forward, past her, the leader now almost falling over to avoid it coming at him. As she brought it past her far enough, she dropped her hold on it, grabbed the owner's arm with both hands and twisted, in opposite directions. His arm snapped and he hissed what she was sure were profanities at her. In a foreign tongue of her own she cursed him just as obviously and used his broken arm to fling him over her shoulder towards his leader, then charging straight for Kai. Bounding up the steps she bowed up and stopped as the captain was threatened in front of her as well. Her eyes glanced down to make contact with the miqo'te's and then down to the decking at their feet. Glancing back up her eyebrows raised in a question and she mouthed, "Ready?"
The long knife had been pulled back out by the time Aliiza had found her place beside her. The corners of her lips twitching into a smirk in response. A quick head nods as she shifted her body around while casting. The quartermaster stumbled backwards his rapier waving around trying to catch his balance. Kai's carbuncle turning to hit him with another one which made him growl. "Fuckin' bitch! Should've fucked ye n toss ye o'er" he feet slide bracing himself once more. Kai held her hand over her book eyes locked on his every move. He lunged at her only to have her carbuncle bounce up smacking him back. He slide his gun from his holster aiming it at the carbuncle. "Move again n' it's dead." Kai's brow perked the smirk only growing.
While Aliiza waited for Kai to set herself she got her Second Wind and the deeper sections of her hip wounds knit over enough to give her back her own stability. With both the captain and the carbuncle held hostage against Aliiza and Kai, the Roedagyn woman let forth a roar and an angry gesture of bringing her arms down. While their enemies grinned at what seemed to be an exclamation of frustration Aliiza used it to channel, focus, and release her aether in a move called Arm of the Destroyer. All the enemies around them, sahagin and quartermaster alike, were smacked suddenly and painfully with her power and the same area of enemies went suddenly and momentarily completely silent. Dark hair swung as Aliiza used her Perfect Balance to bring herself back into line towards the sahagin on the captain and bringing her foot down hard on the decking, damaging it but again focusing her aether in the maneuver Rockbreaker. All the sahagin in a spreading cone in front of her took a very nasty knock, some of them falling straight to the ground. The captain slipped away from their grasp and Aliiza put herself between the remaining group and the captain trusting that now, Kai could focus on the asshole that called himself quartermaster.
The quartermaster didn't expect to be shook by Aliiza's power, he gripped his gun tighter letting his finger slide down to rest on the trigger. "Do it, 'll kill em." he snarled at Kai. The carbuncle's tail snapped back and forth glancing to his summoner. He almost nodded in understanding as Kai narrowed her eyes. Aether swirled forming a solid ball of aether before she shot it right at the quartermaster. "You made a mistake trying to take this ship." He took the ball to the chest but squeezed the trigger knowing he could only control one, the carbuncle made a small yip as he was pierced by the bullet. His aether fading until the remains drifted in the wind. "Now what t'fuck ye gunna do? Yer useless without it." his lips curled thinking he had one upped the girl. Kai send another ball hurling through the air this time aimed at his leg in hopes to knock him off balance. The attack hit, forcing him stagger forward a few ilms but this time towards her. "Some fight left in ye, aye? Like it when me lasses do.." he slurred, lifting his gun back up, but instead of firing he lunged grabbing what bits of her clothes he could pulling her close to him. He smacks the butt end of the gun into the same shoulder he had stabbed before grinning. Kai growls shoving her book against his chest in order to push him away. He doesn't let go, she stamps her foot down on his causing his grip to loosen just enough for her to twist her way out from his grasp.
Aliiza glanced to the captain, "Get any crew not fightin' to get us movin' away from shore. I bet the last of the fishbacks will start bailing if we pull too far from the clutch. They're actually in small boats." The captain nodded and started hollering, rallying the crew, organizing them into better fighting parties and groups to man the sails. Aliiza turned a grin towards the group of sahagin facing her. One of them looked down at his fallen comrades and glanced back towards the captain before turning tail and tossing himself off the ship. One of the fallen struggled to get back to his feet right next to the Roedagyn. "Here, let me help you." She leaned down and picked him up, chunking him into the nearest two still standing and then turned to face off with the others.
The quartermaster smirked "Ye wanna chase do ye? Don't normally 'ave t.. but sure like t'see ye on yer knees." he fixed his stance to have his sword arm forward. His gaze holding its course as Kai backed up a few paces. She thumbed a page over to display another set of symbols before casting a different spell. This one didn't seem like a typical attack, it made a cloud that seemed to slowly get thicker and thicker around the mans head. He coughed and swatted at it, he started to feel his bones ache and chest fill. The man side stepped trying to evade the feeling that her attack gave him, his blade struggled to keep upright with his coughing. He moved forward and swung at Kai catching the corner of her book instead. "Fuck off, ye would be a shitty -" he chokes back another cough, "lay anyways."
Seven fulms of muscle stepped into the last of the Sahagin willing to face Aliiza. Two glanced at each other and jabbed their tridents towards Aliiza at the same time. She shifted so her hip was straight towards them, leaving only the edges of the large forks to graze both her stomach and back. They hadn't quite managed to get their points to meet like they had apparently hoped. She grabbed hold of both weapons, not quite able to rest them from their owners, but maintaining enough of a grip to keep them from doing anything truly productive with them. The third fishback, seeing her occupied, gauged whether he wanted to throw his own weight in the same fight but saw Kai just behind the more physically intimidating woman. He tried to slip past behind Aliiza while Kai was distracted with the quartermaster. Instead he fell on his face when Aliiza’s leg came up behind her, tripping him on his way. As she shifted her body weight forward, she let go of the trident to her back. Instead of replanting her foot in it's original placement, she pivoted on her other one, bringing her foot and shoulder to bear into the owner of the trident she still held, connecting solidly with his face.
Kai growled under her breath, her hand had swirls of teal aether around it. "Fuck off, if you weren't too busy fuckin' everything you saw.. maybe you would be decent at yer job." she snarled back at him, her eyes glowing brighter. She shot a few small balls of aether towards him, the first two he dodged a smirk landing on his lips. The third caught his gun sending it backwards onto the deck with a loud thud. "Yer dead.." he snapped back at her. His feet were fast along with his sword, she slid to the side but it wasn't fast enough, he flicked his wrist slicing through her shirt. "That's better, show me some o' yer skin lass.." he swiped again she tried to block using her tome. She managed to knock it away but he lurched forward and smacked the hilt into her right shoulder, the exact spot where he had stabbed her before. Her knees buckled but not without her shoving her book into his stomach sending him back a pace. She dropped to a knee her and lowered her hand which was still surrounded by the teal swirls.
Meanwhile, the fishback Aliiza was attacking, stumbled backwards and then fell, eyes rolled back in his head, blood covering his face. The one behind Aliiza was bringing his trident back towards himself and trying to turn to face the raging Roedagyn, when her hand released the trident it was holding and her elbow whipped backwards into his face. Changing angles kept it from being a completely debilitating blow but as the Sahagin hissed and shook his face, he looked at how few comrades were left and decided a strategic retreat was best, his backside towards Aliiza as she turned to face him. She would have followed, but the one she had tripped on it's way to Kai was rising to his knees, eyes still on the Mi'qote. Aliiza kicked him in the face, catching his head with her hand as it snapped back, only to kneel as she smashed his face back into the decking and put her knee on his back. She didn't even check before going for what was probably overkill and snapping his neck with her hands. The foes in range vanquished, she turned her face towards Kai to see how she was faring with the foul mouthed quartermaster.
The miqo'te let out a growl as the teal swirls started mixing strings of orange through it. An upward shot caught him somewhat off guard as his shirt stiffened as if sea water had etched its way through every fiber. Her right hand found the deck as she slid towards him on her knee, swiping her other foot out to catch his boot. It caught but he countered his weight towards the side instead of her being able to catch both legs to bring him fully down. The man's arm was able to brace his landing, though not well with the fabric holding him back. He grunted during the impact but was quickly scrambling back towards her. Kai kicked what she could but she wasn't trained well in hand to hand combat, the hand holding the tome was quickly pinned by one of the quartermaster's. The girl's free one reached up to grab a hold the side of his face, aether poured into is half open mouth. He spat what he could but the midlander resorted to dropping his long weapon and went for the girl’s throat. He slammed her wrist trying to force the book away from her which she clung to with all her might. She muffled a sound as his rough fingers wrapped around her, cutting off her supply of air. Her fingers grabbed and scratched at what she could, her leather souls slipped across the boards trying to find any way to counter his weight.
Aliiza roared and took the few quick strides to the pair. She lashed out at the man's head with a kick but her roar had given him just enough warning to move his face to the side. Eyes narrowed at him, she stopped her full on assault and bent down. She kept eye contact with the man as she reached over and pried his fingers from Kai's neck bending them far enough backwards to break. He screamed at her but finally let go of the Miqo'te and scrambled back some. Aliiza took the moment to look and make sure Kai was still breathing.
Dazed but the girl was breathing normally after a few gasps. She clawed her way towards the Roe's feet, fingers scratching the surfaces of the deck trying to find shelter to shake off the feeling. The man kept his eyes on the taller of the two, but he couldn't help himself. He unhooked a knife from his leg before pressing it against the female’s skin as a threat to the roe. His fingers grasp the waist of Kai's shorts as she tried to crawl to safety. The tips of his fingers trying to go deeper then just a hold to pull her back. A sharp kick to his leg pushed the girl forward along with the man on top of her the knife, thankfully, had turned sideways but still pressed to the girls skin. "Back 'ff bi'ch.. if ye let me go.. I'll leave 'er. try anythin' n' I'll slit 'er gods damn up.. n' fuck'er then toss 'er fer t'sea t'claim.."
The Roedagyn gave him an angry grin. "You call me a bitch like it's a bad thing. If I see a drop of blood, you'll die slowly you pathetic piece of shit." She was trying to gauge if she could get him before he slit Kai open, and if the girl had been a little more aware, she might have risked it, but she hadn't come to her rescue just to watch her die anyways. Not to this jerk at least...
The man smirked knowing he had found a possible weakness, he reached up and took a handful of Kai's hair tugging it backwards. A muffled growl passed the girls lips as the handle of the knife was pressed into her back as he climbed to his knees. "Good on ye lass.. Ye listen t'yer orders.." he pulled the knife up to settled against Kai's neck as he dragged her to kneel beside him. "First time yer gunna act like yer suppose t.. if this one 'ere." he nodded towards the roe his eyes never leaving aliiza's. "I'd make ye do what ye promised before.." He licked his lips and would challenge the pair if either of them tried to move in ways he didn’t expect. Pressing the, honestly, dull blade into Kai's soft skin. He slowly backed away from the Roe trying to put a bit of distance while dragging Kai backwards with him.
Aliiza growled at his threats but still being uncertain that Kai was in any condition to avoid getting her throat slit if she made a move, she managed to choke her rage down*, though it clearly flashed in her eyes. "You get off the ship, she stays. I'll let you leave. You do anything else, try to take her, I WILL catch you, here, today, and you'll regret you were ever born, just like we do, and probably your poor mother, too," she snarled at him.
The man laughed, a loud bellowing laugh, the blade forcing Kai to tilt her head upwards as he dragged her backwards. "That right lassie.. gunna give me a good poundin'? Make me beg fer more?" he chuckled again before tugging midnight hair up towards him. He took a long sniff of it, Kai pressed her elbow into the mans chest. "Ayeeeee yer a fiesty one.. good thin' me mum’s dead er yer friend 'ere is gunna take both me n' 'er fer a wild ride." his boot touched the edge of the ship and his smirk only deepened. "Mmmm ye do make me miss 'er.. smells like bread me mum use t'make when I was a small lad." he whispered against the miqo'te’s ear. Kai swallowed a small smirk curling onto her lips as she looked up to the roe. A quick headbutt to the man was enough for her to gain some space. She went to go grab the knife hand but caught herself on his boot as she tried to turn. His grin had faded, she reached out to at least shove him from falling on top of her, his body responded by leaning him a bit farther over the side that he had planned for. His body twisted smoking his face of the rail then up and over he went, with a loud splash at the end. Kai landing chest first on the deck.
Aliiza smirked in satisfaction watching Kai headbutt the man; it appears she had underestimated her. The fall to the deck... well... that was less impressive. She ran past Kai, ready to dive in but... they had gotten the captain to get the ship moving and the quartermaster was quite a bit behind them already so unless she wanted to have to find her own way back... he got to live another day. The Miqo'te was safely on the ship, and for now, that was what mattered. She turned and offered her a hand up. "You did good." It was a high compliment from the Roe.
Kai spat a bit of blood onto the deck before glancing up to take the hand. "Th-thanks but I wouldn't say good.." she was light and easy to help up, she still looked slightly dazed but gave a small smile before sighing. "Fucking assholes.." she shook her head and tilted it back taking a deep breath. "Tired of dealing with people like him."
Aliiza nodded grimly. "Well, once I find him, you won't ever have to again. Besides, I thought you were more out of it than you were, so decent performance."
"Huh?" Oceans blinked up at the women. "I.. um I.. wasn't.. it was just instinct really.. and it's not like.. he got away.." fingers eased into her hair trying to rub where she had been tugged. "can.. umm, I think I'd like to sit for a bit.. is the captain okay?"
"Aye to both. In fact he's looking mighty worried over you, so I think you'd best sit." She looked around for a place to help Kai to. Kai hums softly and takes a few steps before pausing to bend in half, she grimaced as she tried to touch her shoulder. "Err.. fine." There was quite a bit of blood on the deck. A few crew had started to clean up the mess. There were various crates some in less then optimal condition. The Roe leaned over to look at her. "Alrigh... you ain't walkin' anymore and where do I carry you? Is there a medic besides you on board?"
"I-I wouldn't consider myself a medic.. but.. err just somewhere I'm not able to fall of the ship," she chuckled a little. "Oh my grimoire.. just need to it to stop bleeding mostly." she pressed again but held it this time trying to stop crimson from leaking from it. "Wish people would stop going for the same spot all the time," a mess of dark blue tossed as she stood back up a bit straighter. Oceans scanned the deck trying to figure out how bad things were before nodding to the Roe. There wasn't much she could do until she took the edge off her shoulder.
Aliiza frowned and looked around for a moment. She found the book, which Kai had held onto until the very last second and scooped it and the girl up, handing her the book, so she could use her larger hand to hold pressure on the wound, then trotted below deck with a quick nod to the captain. She took the Miqo'te to one of the bunks below and sat her down gently, still holding her shoulder until told otherwise at this point.
Kai's eyes grew wide as she didn't fully expect the woman to pick her up. She grimaced but didn't verbally say anything while she applied pressure. Once seated she'd give Aliiza a quick smile before flipping open the book on her lap. She didn't really seem to look at it, but the right page was turned to and she place her hand on top of the page. In a moment Kai was swirled with green aether before the formed into ribbons. They wrapped around her shoulder then curled up Aliiza's arm and onto her stomach. Any pain easing slightly along with stopping any active bleeding. A moment later the ribbons faded and the room was darkened once more. "Th-thanks Miss Aliiza." she panted a little before flipped the book shut. "Pretty sure you can drop the miss, wouldn't you think? Also" , she looked down at her stomach, "thanks. Guess I'd better go see what's needed up top."
"Err oh sorry. Habit mostly. You should umm probably get what ever it targeted healed proper. That will only help a little bit." She reached up with her left and scratched the back for her neck. "Thanks.. for um well not letting him do anything." Aliiza shrugged down at her. "Yeah, well... ya know. You watch our for your crew. Don't worry about me. I heal fast."
Midnight hair bobbed for a moment "Aye, that should help with some of the pain at least. I.. I haven't seen you on any of the other ships.. I tend to bounce between them so that might be the problem." Kai half mumbled before mirroring the woman's movements of a shrug. "At least let me buy you a drink or make you bread or something.. Not overly often someone err has my back like that." The Roedagyn grimaced slightly. "I uhh... I dunno. I might not 'ave been on any of 'em. I washed up on shore not long ago. Don't really remember anything from before the wreck. I know that part from the flotsam and jetsam that washed up with me. I'll always take either booze or bread so sounds good to me."
A single bob of Kai’s head as the book closed and was clipped back to her waist. "Aye.. now lets see what's left of the crew and get the hells back to port. Then we can talk about grabbing a drink or two." she wiggled herself to the edge before dropping down with a bit of wince. "Perhaps we can find out more abou’ the ship you washed up with.. er not. Regardless I'm happy you were on today's." she gave the lady a quick smile before scanning herself over quickly.. "been better.. but I've looked worse before." she shrugged a smile tugging at her lips.
A chuckle broke free of the roe at the last comment. "Aye, let's do that. Jobs to finish, drinks to enjoy! You lead." She would follow behind within her own arm's reach, still slightly concerned the smaller woman might suddenly tilt over. Kai nodded before heading towards the top deck, she was stable enough on her feet, slower moving than before. As they climbed the noise of work and stress filled their ears. Commands shouted by the man in charge, instead of the slurred one they had been used to. Not trusting anyone enough to lead the crew back to port to lick their wounds. Kai's eyes scanned the crimson covered wood as they got closer. Her breath struggling to ease out knowing how much damage the fool's choices had caused them.

..The red coat had caught her eye, not that it was uncommon to see the uniform near the docks but it was the way he smoothly moved through the crews...
..His eyes raised to look at the woman and meet her gaze, “I should be asking /you/.” A grin tugged at his lips, though he managed to keep it no more than a wide smile. “Miss”...
...She was fairly use to Maelstrom giving the crews she worked for a hard time. Pissing contest most of the time, perhaps they missed the freedom the ships carried with them, or maybe they were just overall assholes...
...He looked over the paperwork for a few moments, though he wasn’t really looking for anything. He was just biding time to make it seem as if he was actually looking at what they were carrying...
...Her leather soles led her back up the ramp pausing by the top of it to look back down at him. Her brow was raised as if she was expecting something or nothing to happen. Was he being tested? Or was she just curious if he would make it without falling into the water...
...He was able to navigate the ramp easily enough and soon was up at the top to stand beside her. "So, this isn't exactly your ship then. I suppose asking you about it won't really answer any questions that I may end up having"...
..."You aren't an officer.. it's plain to see that.. Coat is a nice touch though." she half snarled at him. Her eyes growing slightly brighter as they peered up at him. "So what are you actually here for"...
...“You are correct miss, I’m not an officer. Stole this a while back.” He turned his head to give her a crooked grin over his shoulder...
...Kai followed behind him, her fingers never slipping from their perch, neither did her carbuncle lose interest in the male. "Future reference... Maelstrom's still ask to board a ship.. them being proper.. It was the main thing that gave you away"...
...He continued to wear his twisted grin as he took a step closer to her. He didn’t reach for his weapon, nor did he seem to be intent on attacking her. He closed the gap slightly just to see how she would react to it. “Now who is the curious one. If I had any interest in telling you what I was after I would have done so”...
...Besides the tilt of her head and a small twitch of her ears she didn't move, she barely even blinked. "Doesn't sound like much of a deal.. You come snooping around this ship.. and now start demanding things.. Have no reason to give you anything besides a swift exit from this vessel.. So if you don't mind I rather have you leave peacefully... Sir" ...
...his tail gave a snap behind him before resuming its steady back and forth rhythm, “I’m accustomed to getting what I want. It would be harder for you to find decent work I’m sure if people thought you were into illegal goods, don’t you think? I may not be a part of the maelstrom but a few words in the right ears and a few well placed coins”...
...Lips curled into a smirk. "Aye you think a few coin would hurt my name like that.. You really are new around here." Her ears relaxed as she chuckled softly, shaking her head slightly. "Even if you could pay the -right- people.. they aren't going to believe you. Spent my life on these ships.. mum and dad were both tight with many officers.. Some stranger isn't going to change that." The smirk lingered on her lips, possibly because she knew she was right but also maybe just to piss him off that much more...
...“Ahh...seems I picked the wrong person then. Well,” His tail gave a clearly irritated snap behind him, “that is a shame. You could have made plenty of gil as well, and it wouldn’t have even been anything illegal.” He shrugs his shoulders, moving to her side before he speaks again in a low whisper. “I took this coat from an officer I killed. I’ll remember your face, girl. I recommend if you don’t want to end your days at the bottom of the sea you start to learn how this city works.” He raised his right hand to clasp it to her shoulder, his right eye seeming to give off a dim purple glow in the darker part of the ship...
..."Fuck off." she growled at him, her fingers resting back to the spine. Her carbuncle eased at the touch of it, connection almost seemed stronger every time she had direct contact with the book. A small rumble sat low in the summons chest as he eyed him ready to fire off what aether it had pulled. "Take yer petty bullshit threats somewhere else and stay -away- from me and the ships I work for." her eyes glowed similar to the creature at his feet, the ships papers crinkled in her fist...
...He chuckled again, the sound dark and menacing in nature. “I said easy, girl. I wouldn’t want to have to hurt you for no reason. Though I suppose I have done more for less.” He lets his hands move out of his pockets and to his sides, purple sparks of electrical aether dancing around his fingertips. “I suppose a better use of my time would be to destroy your reputation you so clearly value”...

Kai rubs the back of her neck slightly. “Hmm sorry, you might have to repeat yourself.. I was a little thrown off by you coming in..” her hands reaches down, unclips and flicks open the book that she carries with her. She pulls a few loose pages free and slides them into the open page. Her fingers then loosen the cord holding a feathered quill. Her teal eyes finally glancing back up in anticipation.
Rami reaches up to scratch the back of his neck in a gesture eerily not dissimilar from her own as he watches her prepare for note-taking. "Yes, sorry about that. All right. So. Dravania is where you'll be going... Sohm Al, the great mountain in its midst, specifically. Tell me—" He regarded her with a ferocious frown of deadly seriousness that foretold great peril and misfortune, "—have you ever dealt with Moogles?"
...More twirling and spinning, and a pom positively bursting with energy. "Yes yes yes, kupo! Take it! I simply must have that incredible-looking shiny berry! Pleeeeeeeeeeease?"
Kai nods looking a bit dumbfounded. “Aye.” she slips the linkpearl out of her ear grasping it in the center of her palm. She bends down to pick up the stool. “Mogwin..” she waits to finish until she has safely taken the stool.
Mogwin wasted no time the moment the linkpearl had been offered to him, snatching it triumphantly from Kai's outstretched hand. "Kupopo!" His fur vibrated with bristling euphoria as he gazed at the shiny little device which he clutched between his paws. Then, with no further hesitation, he popped the linkpearl into his mouth and swallowed. "Ahhhhh... delicious!!!"
“Don’t eat..oh okay.” she stands back up and shoves the ‘stool’ into her bag doing it up a little more securely then before.. “Right then, the painting..”
The moogle drifted in the air in a haze of contentment. "Huh? Oh... go ahead and take the Kupo Nut In Repose.' I won't be doing any more painting today. I can feel myself lapsing into a kup coma..." The little moogle simply hovered, its body language the very scholarly definition of pure bliss.
Kai hummed as she watched the moogle. “Oh, okay well thank you. You can keep the nut as promised and here.” she pulled a small bag of gil from her pocket. “I hope you feel okay.. And if you do ever wanted that wooden stool made..” she tilted her head a little.
"Mmmmm, yes, thank you, kupo, that would be lov—" At that moment, a faint buzzing noise was emitted from Mogwin's furry belly. "Kai? What's going on?" The moment Rami's voice spoke out, Mogwin's fur stood straight on end and he whipped around, looking for the voice. "Who's there?" "Are you OK over there, Kai?" Mogwin could find no one about. "It's... it's... It's a g-g-ghost! Kupooooooooooooo!" As he fled across the cavern, leaving Kai there with her the ice-aspected aetheric convertor and the ‘Kupo Nut In Repose’, Rami's voice could be heard, muffled, quieting to silence: "Kai... Kai...?"
Kai stood there for a while staring between the painting and the spot where Mogwin had fled to. She would have some explaining to do once she got back to Mist. She shook her head as she gathered up her new art and patted her bag, making sure the convertor was still there. She hiked back up the twisting path, pausing at the top to take a deep breath. “Hmm Fluff that wasn’t too bad. Even got something.. New.. to put in the room.” Her carbuncle blinked up at her, he was as dumbfounded as she was...
