Why do you think Saguru was initially interested in KID?

Don't worry! I love to ramble, especially when it comes to my beloved Ekoda kids. WELL...

I like to think that the reason Saguru was interested in KID, is because he was always a fan.

The idea that little Saguru was actually in on a heist of the first KID, and he was impressed with the magic… And there was just no magician like KID! He wanted to see him again! He seemed like such an amazing person in his eyes, even if he was a thief!

So when he's already an internationally famous detective, and hears that KID is back, he's so excited to face the one person who has ever surprised him so much.

But he notices him as different. Changed. He doesn't give the same impression as before.

So, he investigates this careless KID and discovers his identity.

At first he's upset because "he's just a copycat."

I like the idea that the reason he was so aggressive towards him the first time is because of that, "it tarnished the image of his childhood idol", however, he is surprised by Kaito, and somehow this makes him feel like the first time he saw KID again.

So, he comes to the conclusion that he is not a copycat, he is an heir.

His first impression of Kaito was definitely "oh god, what a jerk, how does he treat a lady like that, I'll show him how it's done!".

He later met Aoko and Kaito, and I think he now sees them as "fun guys pretending to not get along". I think he likes the pair a lot.

I got the headcanon that Hakuba is actually VERY BI because of that pair of morons. I think the fact that he knows KId personally (as Kaito), affects him a lot, because if you remember in Hakuba's introduction he only saw him as a criminal and nothing more, but as the chapters progress we can see how Saguru softens a lot with Kaito, I mean Hakuba actively helps him by giving him information (Golden Eye), Shows concern for him (Nightmare and Sun Halo).

I think he's stopped seeing him as a simple criminal, but he's very curious, why does a person like that who hasn't really done any harm to others feel the need to steal? He really wants to solve the story before convicting him.

Saguru doesn't spend much time in Japan, but he has seen that KID will help people in need (Nightmare). Also, as I said before, he knows Kaito personally, I think that even though he knows he's hiding secrets, how he relates to Aoko and Inspector Nakamori, he believes that he wouldn't lie to them if it wasn't for a good reason.

He has heard a lot about Kaito from Aoko. Saguru is actually friends with her, they talk via text! I don't doubt that Aoko would tell him everything she could about Kaito and his childhood adventures, so Saguru might have a bigger picture than any of the other detectives.

He lives with him every day. He knows his "sister" (aoko) and "father" (the inspector), they tell him that he's a good boy.

Therefore, he can't just judge him as "another criminal", because he's not.

Even his actions don't make sense.

He gives back the jewels he steals, that doesn't make any sense.

I think it's because he's missing so many facts (and because he's too involved with Kaito at this point) that he just can't help but treat him differently.

How would he hate the guy he shares lunch with, and who lent him a pencil once for an exam? Why is that guy stealing? Why does he give it back? If what he wants is not money, but attention, why does he want it? So many questions, and no answers. I like to think that Saguru is able to see past KID's act because he knows Kaito himself.

OH GOD. I LOVE THIS QUESTION IN PARTICULAR.

One of the headcanons I have is that Saguru actually thinks they are best friends. This is because of how Aoko gets along with Kaito, and how Kaito also behaves like that with Hakuba, kind of Tsundere, so he assumes that Kaito likes him.

Also, I like to think that Kaito would be very angry if something bad happened to Hakuba, he has been seen upset by Aoko and Akako, I want to see him upset because they dared to do something to Hakuba.

Personally, I love seeing them as platonic, but SaguKai is actually a ship that I really like.

Revisiting this bc I saw in the notes that one translation used Captain Britain (which I assume is bc teehee, geddit, he's from london), while other translations used batman. So I can only assume he rly did say batman in the og (there's ppl I could ask about this but I'm being Lazy rn). BUT, it's interesting to see that some translation changed that, to something more on the nose about Saguru's London-ness (which is another interesting topic that I'll get to below), instead of the og line, which is something that's on the nose about Saguru's nerdy ass detective-otaku ass behavior. His names, his association with London/UK, his nerd ass outfit, him name dropping Batman. It all has to do with his detective-otaku ass behavior bc batman IS the one that's referenced as "world's greatest detective" (don't debate me if that's actually true or not, bc I don't rly care about that Bruce Wayne is a dumbass baby loser boy, and that's my view of this guy). Like this is his intro into mk so there's a lot of info drop, and his nerd ass self is also the info that's being dropped

ON THE NOTE OF LONDON, so like from what I understand thru my Google translated convo with jp kaihaku shippers on twit (a total of two that I actually talked to), it seems that there's an understanding that Saguru is like japanese, as in like his base is Japan, and the fact that he was in London was just him studying abroad (which gets referenced in DC twice out of the 3 times he showed up there? Or was it all 3 times??? I can't remember if they said he studies abroad in the sunset manor...) I don't know what I'm saying anymore... UH! I THINK what was it, the fact that one translation changed Batman to Captain Britain is interesting for that bc it like focuses on entirely different aspecta of Saguru's existence? Being? One is just "hey this kids a total nerd" and the other is like "hey he's a BRITISH nerd" or well I assume nerd+brit. Which is like interesting dichotomy btwn the two ppl I interacted with on jp side (I rly should get more info) who sees London as a temporary thing for Saguru who's from jp and will prob come back to jp (well he already has, for KID). While eng(?) side seems to consider London as his base (where he spent most his time?) and only recently returned to jp

Hello DCMK friends. Does anyone, perchance, have the Magic Kaito panels with Saguru and Kaito. Saguru is saying “Do you think you’re Batman?” And Kaito responds “Batman is fictional. I’m the real thing.” Or something along those lines.

“Happy birthday Hakuba!” Someone exclaimed making Saguru jump in surprise. He found himself face to face to Kuroba Kaito who smiled brightly. The magician snapped his fingers making a white rose appear. “A white rose for a white horse” Kaito said extending his hand with the flower towards the detective.

Saguru looked at the magician with curious eyes. It was almost imperceptible but Saguru could swear that there was a light blush on Kaito’s cheeks. “Arigatou Kuroba-kun” Saguru accepted the rose with a smile.

“I’ll see you today at the KID heist? Ahoko is making me go” Kaito questioned.

“Y-yes, I’ll be there” Saguru responded. “Maybe as it is my birthday I’ll finally catch him”. Saguru winked teasingly at the magician.

Kaito snorted. “I really doubt it, but do your best, tan. tei. -san.” Kaito smirked before sitting at his desk.

Saguru sighed with a soft smile. Baka thief… the London detective thought fondly smelling his flower.
