Kafmina WIP

Putting this below a break because it concerns spoilers for recent Manga events.

“If I had died back there, the Defense Force would have made my body into a weapon,”

Mina’s breath catches at the assessment, frank and utterly accurate.

It’s exactly what the Defense Force would do if their pet numbered Kaiju was killed. Hell, because he was human, with a human mind, they would probably be salivating over the potential compatibility. 

“Probably. I can’t imagine that’s reassuring, though,”

He shrugs, still staring at the water, “Well, if it was just me, I don’t think I’d mind. I mean, I’d be too dead to care, and at least I’d be put to use killing kaiju. And honestly…”

He pauses, staring down at his hand, partially kaiju-fied, “ ‘M already a weapon anyways. It feels less uncomfortable being a dead one than a living one,”

“And what of the people you’d be leaving behind?” she shoots back coolly, her voice shaking with an anger as sudden and devastating as a shot from her rifle, “Reno, Kikoru, Hoshina, Me?”

She hates the way her voice breaks when she reaches herself.

“I know,” he says quietly, not looking at her, “I don’t want to hurt you guys,”

“Then don’t entertain such morbid possibilities,” she says, trying not to beg, trying not to tell him that she’ll worry enough for the both of them, because ‘Dead Kafka’ is suddenly the most terrifying pair of words her mind has ever conjured, even edging out ‘Dead Hoshina’, “Besides, we just started fighting side by side. Don’t think you can abandon our promise so soon,”
