I describe this as my most self-indulgent fanfic out of all my self-indulgent fanfics. All my Koutetsujou no Kabaneri projects are self-indulgent, but this one especially is! It features the first KOTIF oc I ever made, and the only one who became a character in her own right rather than just semi-headcanoned supporting cast like everything else I write. She's my baby (grown woman) and I hope I did her justice.

Do you accept fanfiction spinoffs of your own fanfictions? I'm new to the online fandom side of things and not too familiar with general fandom ao3 culture (so apologies if this is a grievous offense in the current fandom mindset!), but I would love to do something with this little idea I have if you're comfortable allowing your work to be built on by others.

Only request is if you do write spinoff works for any of my Kabaneri content that you don't use it for Ikoma/Mumei, as that ship makes me really uncomfortable for a few reasons.

I think one of my favorite Trollhunters AU is Barbara having an adoption streak. Like whether she adopts a non-human Jim or another child who clearly has no parents to raise alongside her son. Barbara just sees a lost youth and is like 'My kid now.' The best example in my opinion is Kabaneri's Son of the Black where Jim is Gunmar's runaway son who happens to stumble upon a very miserable Ms Lake one fateful night.

It's written in a way that honestly feels natural and on point when it comes to the characters themselves. Especially the progression of the mother-son bond between Barbara with Troll Jim. Plus her having the 'Batman instinct' when it comes to lost children who need guidance feels so accurate in my opinion.

If there's one trope I love in any story, it is definitely a good Found Family. Family is what you make it than just blood ties and such. Sometimes it can be a young woman down on her luck with a lonely teen who thinks negatively about himself because of his heritage.

That's my opinion anyway.

Kabaneri AU x BNHA

Okay guys, I watched this interesting, cool anime with 12 episodes only - Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress and honestly how could I not think about an AU with one of my favourite animes.

If you didn’t watch it - what are you doing…?! Quickly go and watch it.

The world building and the story goes like:

So a strange virus appears out of nowhere that transforms the infected humans into Kabane (which means basically corpse) and rapidly spreads. Kabane are aggressive, walking dead creatures that cannot be defeated easily because the heart of Kabane is protected by a layer of iron, pierced, or an important body part is completely severed. Also their veins, eyes and heart glows(which makes them even cooler but sadly - scary) Again, sadly, most melee weapons as steam-pressure guns used by the police(kinda off) in this world are not very effective against them, because they’re protected by the iron cage around their heart and veins. Almost forgot to include how powerful Kabane are. Like seriously, those zombies are amazing, I love their creator tbh. + the action is gold

Part of the humanity living on impontant island(the only place in the story with big role tho, like there are not other continents mentioned, only that the Kabane runned over the world), people have built fortress-like “stations” to shelter themselves from these walking scary(yet cool) zombies. People access the stations and transport wares between them with the help of fortified steam locomotives and stuff like that trying to survive (nicely). One day, a locomotive basically drived(unintentionally I swear) by the Kabane crashes into the impontant Station(where our heroes rise up like revolutionaries) and they overrun the city. A young engineer called Ikoma(the mad fucker with cool skill to use his head like not so many characters did in other stories™) uses the opportunity to test with success his anti-Kabane weapon, the “piercing gun” it was called, but is infected in the process, although he manages to resist the virus and become a Kabaneri [half-zombie but with human mind and yeaaaah that’s cool] (also because using his head), a human-Kabane hybrid. And there the story begins. I’ll put a picture with the cool zombies because I need you to watch it - the fandom is too small!

Just look at them - I love it.

Anyway, know to the BNHA AU(if you didn’t watch it it’s ok, I hope I explain well so you can insight in the story)

Izuku Midoriya - Lives in the UA station, loses his father to the corpses at young age when they break in UA sensing too many people on one place(UA is the smallest station tho, but when there's blood there are corpses drawn by it). He had to kill his own father before he turns into corpse and start eating humans. He could not take it to see his father like this and do it.

He and Hisashi both loses Inko in the panicked crowd, she safely takes on one of the locomotives, worryingly sick about her kid and husband. They are separated for months.

Izuku is saved in the last minutes by passing All Might, who couldn’t help but take the broken, brave child to the last locomotive.

Izuku suffers so much he starts to seek information about the Kabane to find a way to cure them or to stop the virus. Which sadly takes him to being bitten while the locomotive is taking a stop about fuel or provisions. With his knowledge from his researches and All Might he successfully controls the virus and becomes Kabaneri(half-corpse with his mind clear as day)

He later find out All Might is Kabaneri too, and that he had secrets. That he knows all of the searches Izuku had made, all that info he shared - AM already knows. This knew makes him feel betrayed. While AM was amazed by how a kid could found out the truth without using horrible methods to do so or with other people working for years.

AM kinda adopts Izu after freckled boy forgives him but only after AM shares everything with him, what he know about the Kabane and Kabaneri.

(I may write it someday… but rn I’m lazy) this is part 1. I’ll do maybe more. Hope this got you interested in the anime because is awesome and the action is satisfying!!!!

In this au, Ikoma is more heavily affected by the kabane virus—his scars are visible at all times, his ability to talk is a bit scrambled, and he has a lot of kabane/animalistic instincts. More info includes but is not limited to…

He knows when kabane are near, and can often times scare them off

Blood makes him very uncomfortable—he feeds very little (and exclusively from Takumi)

Verbalizing his thoughts is difficult, so Ikoma spends most of his time on his inventions

He is incredibly guarded around Mumei, and really only “talks” with Takumi and Kajika

To help stay hidden, he fakes being sick/hurt, and works while the train sleeps

Most popular multi-chapter: I’ve only got one so far which is still sitting on chapter 1

Actual worst part of writing: sequencing events and lines, I’ve never thought it could be that time-consuming for doing it. In this case I would listen to some bossa nova music which really helps.

How do you choose your titles: I put them on the wall and throw darts at them blindfolded (just kidding)LOL I’m never good at coming up with titles but I try my best. I will probably take reference from others stuffs like movies or TV shows. For example, one of my fic titles was referenced from a 90’s HK erotic movie LOL

Do you outline: I do that all the time even with one shots lol. I have to put them in my phone immediately coz my brain get messy very easily ;__; Right now I’m still struggling with outlining my Firegod!Liu fic 😓

Ideas I probably won't get around to but wouldn't it be nice: I’ve always wanted to write Liucole AUs but I keep on forgetting XDDDD I guess Liulao just occupies too much of my brain and liucole just got squashed into the furthest corner XP

I also ship Jax/Sonya but that’s like at the very bottom of my WIP list 😝

Best writing traits: ummmm.....I think I’m good at coming up with shenanigans and crack lines? XD

Spicy tangential opinion: you shouldn’t try too hard on getting ideas whether they are for work, for study or for fan creation. Sometimes the ideas just come to you without warnings. Also, respect others’ writings since everyone’s got his/her/their own preference. I’m the “don’t like, don’t read” person and I try to put this line in every fic summary on Ao3

But unlike Ikoma, there’s nothing to call her to the shore except the deep-seated knowledge of a watery grave, and everything above the water worth living for. But no matter how hard she tries, she can’t put aside the memory of her brother… Inspired by/a fan sequel to Mosstar’s Darkwater series. Contains repeated references to past familial abuse; nothing explicit but don’t eat the dead dove.

So I got (re)obsessed with Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, a show that has one of the tiniest fandoms I've ever been in, but it's okay because I've also managed to find some of the literal best fanfics within that tag on AO3. Shoutout to @river-muse cause I discovered her works and became so unwell with her merfolk AU story Drag Me Down that I absolutely could not resist writing a fanfic of her fanfic!

You don't need to know the canon show to read this fansequel, but you absolutely need to read the inspiring story first. (Unashamed plug for Drag Me Down and its prequel, they ripped out my heart and I want to inflict this really good story on everyone I know.) I wrote this in two days and could not think of anything else until I finished it. It was literally so fun to write, and yeah if you're a fan of the series (or just a nut like me) check this out!

Tai Kemi

Hey gamers I have some energy let me introduce you to my character from the Starfinder campaign I’ve been in for like 5 years!

There is SO MUCH TO UNPACK ON THIS and so much lore I’ll drop it into a cut. I’ll try to gloss over most of it and expand more later if anyone’s curious.

So this campaign, called Travelers of The Stars, is a sequel to a Pathfinder campaign called Plane of Madness (IT’S REALM NOT PLANE SHUT UP) following a group of adventurers calling themselves the Green Griffins. These adventurers consisted of all humans. A human Cleric of Sarenrae named Aithne Sunsong. A Draconic bloodline Sorcerer named Kraid Fortuna. A Necromancer named Quinn Darksbane. And my boy- a Street Performer Bard named Takumi Sonatina.

BUT KOU-

Yes. Yes he was in fact just another Kabaneri AU. At first. Bear with me, because he went through a LOT to be more than just an AU.

These four adventurers, three at first because Quinn joined later, found themselves caught in an almost Alice In Wonderland-esque journey of nonsense, wit, and ridiculous events. A demi-plane where they had to find legendary jokes to keep a being from sucking all the fun/life out of the place. Between that. Things weren’t adding up. Reality having small distortions. Glitches. Takumi trying to see both places where an identical booth should be only to hear over his shoulder “Don’t mess with things you don’t understand.”

They learned where they are, who they are- wasn’t what they’re really supposed to be. They were in a fake world, and someone was desperately trying to get them out.

When they beat the BBEG, freed the land, a doorway of light opened for them, and Takumi was afraid. What if the person he was looking for- didn’t exist in the real world? But the team held their hands to him, they would always be together. They would go as a team. And so they walked into the light hand in hand.

And reality was nothing like the dream they’d been trapped in for two years as captives. With a young human named Lenny who’d been working to rescue them-

we have entered Starfinder.

My boy’s real name is Tai Kemi. 25 years old. He’s a Korasha Lashunta Envoy who was born on Castrovel to a fairly well-known xenobiologist(deceased due to an accident on a research expedition) and a Clergy member for Shelyn(presumed dead). Tai and his childhood friend-a human named Ikoma Lightbringer-used to be a duo of social media content creators. Tai’s content creator pseudonym was Takumi to separate his celebrity life from his personal life even a little. On a trip to Triaxus something happened- and Ikoma left. Tai remembers Ikoma’s body changing suddenly to having draconic features. But in this fight, memories can’t be trusted. In this fight, where a terrorist organization called the Ares Conclave has essentially seized control of the planet Triaxus for nefarious purposes. Where the only team of mercenaries-turned-heroes who’ve gotten the closest to figuring it out have had their memories wiped so many times the frayed edges bleed together.

Tai is not a good person. Not by a long shot. He’s selfish, reluctant. He’s prone to getting caught up in his own emotions and struggles with opening up in the wake of always losing anyone he gets close to. The entire reason the crew met was because he accidentally killed an asshole of a dragonkin at a bar and subsequently stole his ship.

However- he emerged from that time in captivity kinder than before for some unknown reason. As captain of the Green Griffins mercenary company he’s struggling to find his footing while the crew unravels the mysteries of their lost memories.

The crew-

- Kraid Fortuna, Copper Dragonkin Vanguard. Gunner. Partner bonded to Tai initially out of a sense of mutual gain but they’ve genuinely grown close over time. Revealed recently to be a clone.

- Æthne Sunsong, Human Star Shaman Mystic. Pilot. Rescued and raised on the Burning Archipelago by the church of Sarenrae. She’s the kind of person you’ll find with a “Live, Laugh, Love, and wine” sign in her room. Easily stressed and protective of the crew.

- Quinn Darksbane, Elebrian(living) Mechanic. Engineer. They’re the original engineer for the ship before Tai, Kraid, and Æthne stole it. They didn’t really like the original owner so they stuck around with their assistant.

- Lenny [last name unknown], Human Technomancer. Science Officer. He’s a 16-year-old runaway for unknown reasons. The crew protects him and Tai takes care of him like a son.

It’s been a few months since the crew woke up, and there’s still so many empty gaps that what they have recovered causes more concern than comfort. Tai’s stared death in the face twice and come out of it scarred and angry with himself.

The major info Tai knows now is whatever creature is pulling the strings of the Ares Conclave has a fairly unknown motive, the public face of the organization is being held hostage and has been so since before the group grew to the size it is, there’s someone named Zeal who is everywhere and could be any species he wants to be, and Ikoma is working with the Ares Conclave for an unknown reason.

The last time Tai saw Ikoma, he was wearing Ares Conclave gear with a helmet obscuring his face. But his now draconic feet are horribly scarred. It was the only giveaway beyond not having any wings. Tai had reached out with his telepathy, called his name. Only to hear one phrase back.

“Takumi, don’t mess with things you don’t understand.”
