I think parts of me are still young, restless, relating to john on a level I was not able to comprehend for years. john taught me that I don't need fancy feelings or a sense of normalcy to be human. the point of the jwc series is… being human. being so painfully human it hurts, because being a human can bring pain - especially for people like john or like me, people who can't fit in, people who have a mister monster in their head and people who may not know their own differences.

john is for the people who relate to the cardboard box scene more than to any passage of text written by a human being.

he is for us, who we would rather call ourselves a monster than a human.

Watching the pairs short from Lombardia this morning and Ghilardia/Ambrosini had a boot problem and stopped and took a 6 pt deduction. Ling/Wein's interruption for a boot problem at Lake Placid last month cost them 5. When VM stopped for Tessa's leg cramps at 4CC in 2013, why didn't they get any deduction?

Hi anon,

So there are a few different kinds of breaks and they can be instigated by the skater or the referee. I haven’t watched the pairs short program so I can’t comment on G/A but for Ling/Wein they were blown dead by the referee because the referee determined that the costume issue was a safety issue. If you as a skater are whistled to stop by the referee, you must stop or risk disqualification. For obvious reasons, a loose boostrap could be very dangerous in ice dance, especially for lifts and any transition which involves a mini-lift. L/W were mandated to stop to fix his boot because the referee made the call that his bootstrap significantly increased the likelihood of injury or other adverse events (pretty obviously). In case of a costume malfunction, that is deemed somewhat in the skaters’ control (not saying I agree with the logic this is just the rationale) but a medical stoppage is not. For example, a skater is responsible for tying and securing their laces and therefore will receive a deduction if they come loose but would not if they got a bloody nose (not controllable).

In 2013 there was a bit of an uproar because not only did V/M stop in the middle of their FD at 4CC but so did P/C at JWC. These were medical stoppages and therefore did not get deductions. Tessa has a condition called Chronic Exertional Compartments Syndrome where her muscles are overly restricted by her fascia resulting in intense nerve pain and reduced blood flow. I’m sure that when Scott was explaining to the referee the cause of the stoppage that her (documented) compartments syndrome was preventing her from skating and was specifically a safety risk when it came to her kicking up into that straight line lift. CCES is pretty obviously improved by a break because those extra seconds yelp reduce muscle inflammation and restore blood flow.

Gabi sprained her ankle the day of the JWC free dance in warm ups (might have also included a fracture I don’t remember the specifics). You can see that Gabi’s right ankle is taped to high heaven and back in the videos. P/C stop right after a series of transitions that’s pretty heavy on Gabi’s right ankle with a leaning besti squat and lunge and before their circular step sequence. Both of her one foot sections within the steps were on her right foot and you can clearly see that her skating throughout the entire program is affected by limited strength and mobility in her ankle. Again with the stoppage there was a clearly documented and visible injury and when talking with the medical personnel (after the referee) it was clear that they could continue within 3 minutes.

Liverpool visit 15th September

We will be visiting the 12th edition of Liverpool Biennial, ‘uMoya: The Sacred Return of Lost Things’, along with the Tate and The Museum of Liverpool. You will see a very broad range of work that will delight and inspire, but may also confuse or not interest you. That's OK- on Foundation, you should be challenged with new ideas, concepts and methods, so be open-minded and learn something new. You will photograph and draw artworks and details- you might love a texture you see, be fascinated by how it's constructed, or be interested in what the work is about.

For the next three weeks, you will use the visit to Liverpool as the basis for a series of activities and projects, so you should photograph and film as much as you can. You should also make notes/ take photos of the accompanying text to explain WHAT the work is about. Some of the work is about social injustice, global wars and instability, an energy crisis, environmental violence, economic systems crashing, racial and gender injustices. Liverpool is a place of community, of migration, of reflecting the past and more importantly moving forward. It is a place of culture, excitement, history and personality.

As part of this 3 week block, you will consider ethics, society, sustainability in a chaotic world in your own work, so look deeper than the surface of the works you see.

What work should you do?

collect information leaflets

fill the accordion book you have made with drawings, cuttings from leaflets, notes, print outs, recording the things that catch your eye. You should complete this in private study time ready for the following Wednesday's lesson. It should be packed with inspiration

You can also add images from Liverpool- architecture, people etc

put photos and videos on Tumblr ready for Wednesday

since i have competently lost the plot in quarantine, I have returned to you all with some small moments that may mean nothing but have been adding up to something,....

and many people have pointed out Della’s reactions (and rightfully so)

but Frank and the crew are big fans of the misdirect.

(e.g. the buzzards being FOWL from day one, Magica actually being in the dime, the fibbing fibbing fibbing bit etc.. ) 

Ducktales like to hide important info in plain view but doesn't make that info a focus. like here in the ep. the great dime chase...This is the opening shot of the room with Della’s stuff in it, in the Mcduck library.  

Looking back it is super heavy handed.

the sear of Seline is stabbing the moon, and Della crashed on the moon, or at the very least the sear is being trusted into space. 

so this is painfully obvious now, but at the time of airing this imagery meant nothing (to those who did not know about Della’s comic history)

the info was always there it was just not the main focus/ point of the scene so the whole thing flow over most peoples heads (its just good visual story telling as well) 

the misdirect was in focusing on the letter/ note (and the painting of Della kind of) and Dewey’s reaction to it. As it makes you look at only certain peace of the puzzle and not all the peaces.

Its just all around great writing.

anyway....that’s just an example of what i am talking about.

What i’m getting at is the beauty of this kind of writing is that you don’t know what your looking for until its almost (or is) to late.

now back to my og point...

Donald makes a list of 

“no one getting hurt, captured or lost.”

list like this (in writing) are meant to make you focus on something you already care about, in this case, Donald’s care for the boys and their safety and Della being gone for 10 yrs. This make you (and me) mentally skim over,

Scrooge....

so my guess that Donald is referring to one or both of Scrooges sisters,

as the whole point is about the family and their relationships/pains that have come from adventuring.

so that strongly suggests  Hortense (Donald and Della’s mother) as she is actually imaged in the show/ has a character design. 

and Frank has confirmed that Della and Donald were at Scrooges on and off in their childhood. so its possible that she and her husband just didn’t come back from and adventure on day.

so its possible that Quackmore and Hortense were captured, and Scrooge is either responsible in someway or feels responsible for not ‘stopping’ his sister from going. 

oh but who, would be able to capture them you might ask?

as there must have been a reason for their downfall and a Duck and Mcduck, take down seems likely.

however this can also apply to Von Drake (and maybe Matilda, Scrooge’s other sister)  

as we know family is beyond blood in this series so its possible that scrooge might be thinking about Von Drake...

perhaps he was captured by FOWL and Scrooge failed to save him, along with Matilda.  

[Edit: it also occurred to me that, the ones captured could be Webby’s parents, and by the og FOWL as well as the plot this season does seem to have at least some focus on Webby and Beakley (she is fibbing, fibbing, fibbing after all) and scrooge’s history. so thought i would throw that out her too]    

All i can confirm is that someone close to the family was taken, but why and for what reason, remains to be seen.

Legacy is the theme this season, as it is literally the first word spoken in season 3. Specifically woodchuck legacy, with the family (Della and Huey) and the over all history (Finch and her map).

but there is another point i would like to bring up here to

not only did FOWL know about the journal, but it is implied they knew what was in it (lost mystery’s) 

and they are “racing” the family to something which means they must be aware on some level the contents of the journal.

but HOW? 

Finch might have been a part of the og FOWL (or shush) and she knew she had to hide her journal from either FOWL or Shush for whatever reason.

all i’m saying is that she has some kind of tie to FOWL, good or bad.

Singer-actor Eric Mun is returning to the small screen in four years to feature in Channel A’s new miniseries “Eccentric! Chef Moon,” with actress Koh Won-hee.

The new series, set to air Friday night, will feature the 43-year-old as star chef Moon Seung-mo who falls in love with a reckless fashion designer Yoo Yoo-jin.

Taking place in the rural and fictional Seoha Village in the northern Chungcheong Province, the drama will unfold a warm story as the two characters develop love.

“After taking a break from acting, I was looking for dramas with more warm story lines compared to those of my previous pieces where I was mostly featured as a cold and sensitive character. I decided to star in this series because of the pleasant feeling through the characters and setting of the story,” Mun said during a press conference held online Friday.

This is also his first appearance on a television drama since he tied the knot with actress Na Hye-mi in 2017. Previous to the marriage, Mun starred in smash-hit romantic comedies “Another Miss Oh” in 2016 and “Discovery of Love” in 2014.

Producer Choi Do-hoon said during the media event that he had Mun in mind as the chef role from the very start.

“Mun is actually a good cook and he sticks well with Moon Seung-mo’s image, so I really hoped he would take the role, and thankfully he accepted it,” Choi said.

Mun’s active involvement in cooking variety shows was one of the reasons why Choi found Mun well-suited for a chef role. Starting with “Three Meals a Day” in 2014, after another season of the tvN show in 2017, Mun appeared on “Law of the Jungle” and “Wheeled Restaurant” in the years following.

Living up to the expectations, it is told that Mun pulled off the chef role perfectly. According to Choi, Mun performed more than 90 percent of all the cooking scenes himself.

Koh said her character as Yoo-jin will be a dynamic and comic one.

“She shows a completely different personality after losing her memory. I’ll be showing diverse aspects of myself in the drama,” Koh said.

Veteran actor Ahn Nae-sang will be acting a cold-hearted successful businessman Im Cheol-yong who is “a man driven by greed” according to the actor’s explanation.

Other casts include Gil Hae-yeon, Cha Jung-won and Choi Kwang-jae.

The 16-episode series will air every Friday and Saturday at 10:50 p.m.

Hey Alice! Could you explain something to me - I was watching Junior Worlds today and noticed that some skaters are 17,18,19 and so on, why are they on junior level then? Some of them were even at Europeans earlier this season and I’m confused

Sure I can. According to ISU regulations, any skater below the age of 19 (21 for men in Pairs and Ice Dance) is eligible to compete in Junior-level events. Furthermore there is no rule forbidding skaters from competing at both levels in the same season, so you’d see, for example, 17-year-old Yuna Shiraiwa both currently competing at Junior Worlds and previously taking part in the senior Grand Prix series. 

Skaters can choose to stay at the junior level for a few years after they’re age-eligible to turn senior for various reasons, but mostly I’d say it’s because they want/need to accumulate more international competitive experience, especially if they’re from a country with a deep field and/or they are not sure if they’d get GP assignments when they move to senior. National federations also play a role in advising their skaters and ultimately determining which skaters to be sent to compete at which international events. Continuing with the Yuna example, JSF couldn’t award her a spot on their senior world team but chose to send her to JWC instead, presumably because they thought she’d be able to get better results there where the field is more suitable to her level.

E-commerce aggregator Una Brands closes $45m Series B

E-commerce company Una Brands has today announced it has raised $45 million in a Series B funding round for future acquisitions, backed by White Star Capital and Alpha JWC Ventures.

The raise - which brings the total capital secured by Una Brands to more than $140 million - will be used to fuel further acquisitions and develop proprietary technology, building out its presence in the e-commerce space.

The highly acquisitive aggregator - based in Singapore but with co-founder Adrian Johnston based in Sydney - has brought more than 30 e-commerce brands into the fold across six countries since its founding in 2021.
