Me, being hit with a late night brainwave: -I know for sure that the N1 protag has a canon name, I know I saw it from one of the concept/teaser/release trailers, but I can't figure out where! I've already combed through in from the official channel and I can't find it! I know his name is perpetually blank in Extinction cause it's a completely different game (and devs just leaving it up to interpretation), of course he's the nameless hero cause he's never mentioned by name in his own game too (though it's extra funny that the Micromon protag had their name mentioned more than five times), but still! aaron would never admit it, being a man who loves his children equally, but there’s just something about ellie that’s always made him worry more. his career mainly focusing on female homicides certainly doesn’t help, but he swears it’s just something different. something shifted in him the day he held ellie for the first time, an innate desire to shield her from a kind of harm jack wouldn’t have to worry about.

the first time ellie proves her capability to aaron, she’s 9, sat between you two in the principal’s office. her knee is scraped, wild curls springing loose from her french braid, her (aaron’s) brown eyes glaring at her principal analytically, almost as if she’s trying to jumpstart her profiling career in her grass-stained soccer uniform.

the principal explains the severity of why the two of you had been called in—ellie had kicked a boy 5 years her senior in the shins, then had to be pulled off of him by one of the assistant coaches.

“eleanor odette hotchner,” aaron starts, “do you have ANYTHING to say for yourself?”

ellie looks right at him, unwavering.

“he picks on jack all the time. he’s the reason he came home with a bruise the other day. i saw it happen, dad. no one did anything about it, even after jack and i came in and told you.”

you and aaron look at each other, taken aback, and then to the principal as he sputters out an explanation.

“wait,” you interrupt, your own profiling skills kicking in, “is that why you and jack were late that one day coming home?” you look to aaron again, “jack said he hung back to ask a question about his science project.”

ellie shakes her head.

you two look back to the principal again, flushed red at the gaze of two identical sets of brown eyes glaring at him.

“you two have to understand, coach carter is one of the best JV coaches-“

“carter?? as in nathan carter’s dad? the same nathan carter who bullied jack so bad we had to switch classes in the middle of the school year?” you connect the dots, anger rising at the man in front of you.

the principal remains silent, sighing as he pinches the bridge of his nose.

ellie leans over to aaron, lowering her voice, as if telling him a secret.

“it’s called nepotism. uncle spencer told me about it.”

when the three of you leave that day, ellie is still suspended for three days, as opposed to the week she had been eyeing originally.

he saves the story till the perfect time arises, only a few days later. it’s a tense moment on the jet, when everyone is exhausted from a long, grueling case.

he starts it with an offhanded comment about how ellie has been on suspension, and 5 sets of eyes and ears perk up.

“ellie? our ellie? what happened?”

he hits the story’s climax right as dave is taking a sip of his whiskey. at the mention of nepotism, he laughs so hard it comes out of his nose.

ellie’s gonna be fine, aaron tells himself. as long as she doesn’t give her old man a heart attack first.

oh my god?????? yes. yes yes yes yes YES

not only does ellie favor aaron’s traits, she’s just as fiercely protective.

plus, aaron and jack have always been coming to her rescue whenever she needs it — her being the ‘baby’ of the family, being more vulnerable in different instances, they love her and want to protect her. so when the time comes for her to do the same, she does not hesitate. it’s what they would’ve done for her.

and of course she knows better — fighting is never the solution, doesn’t solve anything (and the fact she’s now on nathan’s and all his friends radar) — she was not about to be a bystander and let her big brother take a beating. absolutely not. so as she’s sitting in the principal’s office waiting for you and aaron, she’s extremely nervous, but regardless of what follows, she doesn’t regret what she’s done.

and while aaron has to be Dad and not condone fighting, he’s so incredibly proud of her. ellie apprehending a kid who’s twice her size — his little ellie???

it settles a bit of his worries. like, he’ll always be worried due to what he sees everyday, but ellie has proven can defend herself (at just 9 years old) and he has to give her more credit. she’s not some little weakling — she’s a hotchner.

and the bau finding out??? incredibly shocked, but just as aaron and you — proud.

My headcanons about Dick Grayson

Dick Grayson is smart.

Like I hate it when they make him a dumb bimbo, he's hot yes he knows it, but he also has been hacking into the Pentagon for fun since he was ten, survived Spyral and several almost apocalypses. I know it's cannon since no Bat is dumb, but some fics, SOME FICS, make him look like he never went to school.

Dick Grayson knows so many languages.

I assume due to the fact that he grew up in a traveling circus he already knew a lot of languages(even if his english was bad when his parents died), but due to being robin and Bruce Wayne's ward he learned basically all major languages on Earth( and some alien) like Romani, German, French, Russian, English, Italian, Greek, Spanish, Irish, Finish, Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Indian, Latin, backwards speech(Zatara), Tamoranian(i think that's how you spell it), Kryptonian, speedster(when speedsters talk super fast) and so on.

Dick Grayson has at least some immunity against Fear toxin(Ft), Joker venom(Jv).

And most of the other poisons due to constant exposure since he was 9, also when he was younger there were no antidotes for Ft and Jv so he learned how to ride them out without a sound. (You can't tell me it hasn't fucked him up somehow, like a 9 y/o being constantly exposed to these things HAS to have some consequences and while he has his immunity I also think he has extreme anxiety( like all the bats a.k.a. Bat paranoia) and constant panic attacks(next headcanon))

Dick Grayson is a master at controlling his body.

Besides the fact that he probably learned acrobatics before he could walk and was a stage performer(always smiled even if the performance got off the rails) I also think he has taught himself complete control of his body due to far too many close calls. He learned to control each muscle individually for combat under high-stress situations(where he most needs that control). This had a side effect of him being able to control his face muscle/expressions and body language. He became the best actor there will ever be, because he can keep a smile on his face even if he is in excruciating pain, he can look completely calm and relaxed even though he is having a panic attack and the opposite is true as well he can look completely terrified even though he is amused. Because of this you need to know him extremely well to tell if he's in distress(the only people so far are Alfred, Damian and Slade(he's obsessed))

Anyway if you want more of the headcanon's just say, Nightwing is one of my favourite characters I can rant about him much longer.

I feel like there's potential for a really compelling OCD Johnny headcanon somewhere in the subtext of JTHM. You could interpret his constant neurotic fixation on needing to paint the wall, and constantly, almost impulsively killing to satiate that as being somewhat analogous to obsessive-compulsions. I've seen people resonate with this when I allude to it in posts here and there, but I've never actually dedicated one to my thoughts on it.

This is a panel I think about a lot in relation to this, because this guy just died dramatically, went through a thought-provoking journey in all corners of the afterlife, and in the seconds following his resurrection what immediately comes to mind is violent fantasy! It's not something he actively tried to think about, based on what we're seeing, it just popped up there on its own accord.

That seems to be how it generally goes for him, if you look at the Twitter, for whatever that's worth canonically, it's all just elaborate murder, elaborate murder, oddly specific violence, etc. etc. That's just who he is as a character, sure, but he doesn't always kill out of anger or repressed sexuality, so after a certain point you've got to question what is driving him towards all the murder, practically to the exclusion of all other activities? His mind just seemingly generates a constant string of violent scenarios that bug him until he acts on one of them, and it's completely out of his hands. He's obsessed!

I don't think the fact that he regularly enjoys his rampages of cathartic violence even automatically rules out OCD as a possibility, since he does become distressed and confused by them in moments of self-reflection, such as we see shortly before he dies. Also, while his thoughts of violence comprise the "obsessive" part of the disorder his compulsion, to kill, would then be the "compulsive" part and would thus be designed to give catharsis from the obsession by nature. If you subscribe to the belief that Johnny's mentally ill, then you're probably of the opinion he has multiple disorders. They most likely give him a far more complicated relationship with his obsessions and compulsions, much more so than somebody who's only got OCD. They're his ball-and-chain, and his catharsis simultaneously, as his constant murdering allows him an outlet for his rage, fear of abandonment, sexuality, and need for control in situations on top of just giving him a release from the hold of his obsessive thoughts.

It's probably easy to look at my pathologizing of Johnny's traits, and my neglecting of their supernatural origins as me just ignoring the source material for projection's sake. Yes, I do know that Johnny wasn't written with any specific mental illness in mind, and yeah, I'm aware that a lot of what I'm discussing is attributed to the wall thing's influence in the comics. However, I don't think that's an adequate explanation for it all. His hallucinatory abstractions like Reverend Meat, and the manic-depressive symbolism in the Doughboys, and his delusional paranoia, and even this all continue to be documented facets of his character even after he's free of the wall's influence. That horrible little tentacle beast was only feeding and creating based on what was already present in Johnny's mind, and given the amount of symptomatic dysfunction present in him, even afterwards, it feels a bit silly to me to argue he's completely neurotypical.

I don't even think the answer to "What's plaguing his brain?" has to be as simple as it either being entirely mental illness, or entirely the paranormal infestations making residence in his cranium at any given time. Hell, I'm not even married to a collection of solid disorder headcanons, I just look at the two as being blended seamlessly. There's a lot to be said about the concept of "death of the author" but for me authorial intent stops where execution begins. It just so happens that in an attempt to craft some kickass lore, JV accidentally portrayed a lot of people's real experiences, with a surprising amount of depth and accuracy. He probably threw a bunch of random shit into his cool murder-dude character that he associated passively with insanity, like hallucinations and paranoia, not thinking about it, but he still basically fell assfirst into portraying a nebulous psychotic disorder, since that's all stuff that actually happens to people. I'm getting ramble-y, but basically Johnny is the Schrödinger's Cat of mental illness, and not aknowledging his neurodivergence to some degree practically breaks his character, because it makes everything he does make marginally less sense, even with the lore.
