That heartbreaking 😭😭 I can't imagine Marie Antoinette seeing her friends severed head.
Marie Thérèse Louise Savoie, the princesse de Lamballe, was murdered on September 3rd, 1792 during the violence of the September Massacres.
She was brought before a temporary tribunal, where she was asked to swear an oath to liberty and equality and to swear against Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. It is believed that she refused to swear the oath against the king and queen, as it was “not in her heart.” She was condemned, then released outside to a waiting crowd, where she was murdered.
Her head was cut off and displayed on pike outside the Temple Tower, in the hopes of forcing the imprisoned Marie Antoinette to look upon the decapitated head of her murdered friend and favorite.

sorry if this makes me an evil bigot but people arent entitled to mindlessly follow your beliefs or tolerate bad behaviour/attitudes just because you have more oppressed lables than them.
People should be able to lable idiocy and cruelty when they they see it and being a minority doesnt make it so you cant use your hardships to be manipulative, spout vile horrible things or say things that are simply not true
Its honestly why sj tumblr is such a toxic mess. Its ran by crybullies who despise honest communication and constructive community building. Its just 'im automatically right when i tell someone ~less oppressed~ than me anything and they cant question me. If they do theyre speaking over me and oppressing me by disagreeing"
'Listen to x voices' should mean not automatically disregarding a female, gay, black, asian etc persons views, and not that people should grovel and defer to others because they said so.
#Lgbt#Poc#Social justice#Feminism#Leftism#Rightism#Politics#Yeah its painful to hear but... manipulative people will use anything they can to manipulate#Be it 'im privileged so i automatically know better'#Or 'im oppressed so youre hurting me by not obeying'#Off topic but its similar to why i believe abuse of women by men and abuse of men by women are both belittled#Abusers are manipulators first and foremost who can draw you into a narrative#Be it 'crazy hysterical woman' or 'shameful weak man' theyll do whatever it takes to play off certain biases on the people around them and#They do it well rant over

Margaret Beaufort gave birth to Henry VII when she was only 13 years old, and Mariana of Austria gave birth when she was 16.
In Philippa Gregory's novel, Margaret Beaufort is depicted as an evil woman, which is upsetting because Margaret Beaufort is known to be a kind person in real life. Unfortunately, some people still wrongly perceive her as evil.
It's important to note that Margaret Beaufort faced health complications after giving birth to Henry VII, which left her unable to have more children. Similarly, Mariana of Austria has also been the target of rumors and propaganda, falsely portraying her as a malicious mother-in-law, despite her kindness towards Marie Louise and her genuine grief over her daughter-in-law's death.
Mariana suffered epileptic seizures while giving birth to most of her children.
Both women were vilified, suffered terrible births, and were widowed at a young age. They both strengthened their positions in court and made a name for themselves.
“One thing that disgusts me about the old monarchies was the practice of child marriage. Imagine, respectively, Margaret Beaufort (Henry VIII's grandmother) and Queen Maria Anne of Spain marrying older men at the ages of 12 and 15. It disgusts me, even though it was common for the time” - Submitted by Anonymous
“I can’t believe that Henry the seventh’s mother had him at age 13, the same age as Lady Capulet when she had Juliet and the current age of Juliet in Romeo and Juliet (Can someone pass me a cringe curtain please?)” - Submitted by Anonymous

Yes, I would be very interested hearing your head canon (@tim-ribbert-56) (in response to this post)
I have decided for my personal entertainment that Clarisse de Cagliostro is related to Lupin III, and here's why.
-pulls out Arsène Lupin's Wikipedia page-
In the novel La Comtesse de Cagliostro, a young Arsène Lupin (at the time going by the name Raoul d'Andrésy) was courting Clarisse d'Etigues, a young lady of a well-to-do family, and trying to win her hand, despite her father's disapproval.
Throughout the course of the novel, Lupin meets and falls in love with Joséphine Balsamo, aka the Countess of Cagliostro, and abandons Clarisse in favour of her. To clarify, Joséphine is not actually countess of anything, she is (or claims to be) a descendant of Giuseppe Balsamo aka the Count of Cagliostro (who was also count of jack shit), a famous conman from the 18th century.
Shenanigans ensue, which I will not go into in details on, but oh my god I am insane about Raoul and Joséphine, I want to dissect them and study them under a microscope. It turns out Joséphine aka Cagliostro is evil as fuck, Raoul/Lupin realizes that and goes back to Clarisse (whom he had previously abandoned like an old sock, I fucking hate this guy), marries her, and a few years later has her kid.
Unfortunately Clarisse dies in childbirth, and Joséphine, who was still around and very very pissed at Lupin (and jealous as hell of Clarisse whom, may I mention, had never personally antagonized her in any way whatsoever, Joséphine is just fucking bonkers). Joséphine also kidnaps Lupin and Clarisse's son, Jean, and raises him as her own son. (I have not yet read the following novel The revenge of Cagliostro so I don't really know what Jean's deal is, I just know he's an antagonist).
The following is my headcanon, based on these events. In the universe of Lupin III, Joséphine Balsamo was actually countess of the small kingdom of Cagliostro (maybe Giuseppe was count, maybe he conned his way into becoming count, maybe he bought the land and built a fake kingdom with a fake history, who knows).
After the events of The revenge of Cagliostro, Jean settles down in the country of Cagliostro, gets married, has a child, and that child will later have a daughter of their own, who they name Clarisse, after their late grandmother. Clarisse de Cagliostro, of Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro fame, would thus be the great-grand-daughter of Arsène Lupin, making her Lupin III's cousin/niece/whatever you call this specific degree of separation.
I am choosing to make Clarisse de Cagliostro a great-granddaughter of Arsène Lupin, rather than a granddaughter, because Arsène Lupin was very young when the events I described unfolded: he is 20 years old when he meets Clarisse d'Etigues and the whole Cagliostro debacle happens, and 25 by the time Jean is born. I'm assuming he had Lupin II much later in his life. So Jean and Lupin II (half-brothers) would have a significant difference in age, and so Jean's hypothetical child (grandchild of Arsène Lupin, so of the same generation of Lupin III) would be much older than Lupin III. Clarisse de Cagliostro is younger than him, maybe around the same age if you stretch it, so she's have to be a great-grandchild.
Now I need to read The revenge of Cagliostro and study Arsène Lupin's wikipedia page in more detail to determine when exactly Lupin II was born and who his mother was. And also where Albert's family branched out, because the fact that he's called D'Andrésy should theoretically place him as a descendant of Arsène Lupin's mother but not of Arsène Lupin himself; but Jean was also going by that last name, so who fucking knows.
No I am not insane I promise, I am just a gigantic nerd.
#i have very mixed feelings about Papy Lupin Original Flavour#cuz you see in the first books he was pretty much like his grandson#a charming little bastard; smug as hell but also charming enough to make up for it#like. an ego the size of the eiffel tower but it's highly deserved#if he robbed me i would just thank him#you wanna punch him in the face but like. lovingly#then around The Hollow Needle he started acting weird#and after that his ego grew into a god complex the size of the eiffel tower and he just lost all the charm#like. just a huge dick honestly.#i thought that was a logical evolution after (SPOILER FOR THE HOLLOW NEEDLE) his wife got brutally murdered in front of his eyes#mere HOURS after they got married and he gave up his whole career as a thief for her#which would be an understandable evolution#but no he's also retroactively an asshole in The Countess of Cagliostro which is a prequel#i guess leblanc just decided 'lupin's a dick now'#which sucks#but on the other hand it's very funny to kinda hate-read The Countess of Cagliostro#i was honestly rooting for Joséphine for most of the book#she is fucking insane which is exactly what raoul/lupin deserve#you know that Mountain Goats song 'no children' ?#'hand in unloveable hand; i hope you die i hope with both die'#or that post that says 'i don't ship them they're too toxic / well i hope they kill each other mid-fuck'#well that's me with them#just reading on to see how many more life-ruining decisions raoul can bodily throw himself at#also leblanc did joséphine dirty!!!!!!!!#LET MY GIRL BE EVIL FOR GOD'S SAKE#none of that 'her fragile feminine nature' and fainting after murdering someone because deep down she can't bear her own cruelty#what the fuck#let her be genuinely unhinged!! let her bash raoul's head in with a meat hammer!!!!#(yes that is something that she tried to do)#anyway. justice for Joséphine Balsamo. god forbid women do anything

“She was a lady-in-waiting to Catherine of Aragon for several years alongside Anne Boleyn, so she would've witnessed the way Anne held Henry off for so long by pleading her virginity. She watched, and she learned. There is a famous tale of how Jane was picking out items for her wedding to the king, while Anne awaited her execution in the Tower. If true, it would show sprinklings of a cold heart. [...] I wonder if Jane was reminiscing over these events, as she was dying of child-bed fever, and if so, what her thoughts on them were. Did she pray for forgiveness for the part she played? I like to believe that she did, given how spiritual she was known to be.”
abfiles comments writing fanfic fantasising about jane seymour in moments of terrible duress!
#very normal !#ab fandom#this is just an excuse to be hateful to a woman. a stubborn refusal to examine your internalised misogyny.#whitewashing anne as some kind of anachronistic fictional heroine#doesn’t diminish the misogyny of wishing suffering on her female peers#in fact: it further exemplifies it by dehumanising anne as a white feminist prop.#i don’t need to repeat how the ‘not like other girls’ (about 500yo dead women) is rancid. and i won’t.#i think you are very stupid and wilfully sexist if you believe in it#& i think you are too lazy and vacuous to apply any deeper examination of either history or yourself.#the truth is that we know next to nothing about jane’s situation in the first five months of 1536#everything we do know is merely second or third hand speculation about her#and we know nothing at all about her prior to that.#to draw such conclusions is to readily assume the worst about a woman who we have no reason to#maybe she was ideologically for the execution of six people…#maybe she was an active participant using whatever agency she had…#but maybe she wasn’t.#in any case her own horrible death isn’t fair game or some kind of karmic justice#and the lack of empathy for something that has killed countless women is simply repugnant#these were real women and both deserved to live full lives.

*twirling my hair* do you like cassandra cain? if not, do u have a moment to hear about our lord and saviour cassandra cain?
CASSANDRA CAIN MY LOVE!!! She's definitely the batgirl I've read the most in terms of full issues, the first 30-ish issues of her solo by Kelly Puckett Scott Peterson and Damion Scott had me hooked and I binged them but fell off after Horrocks came on (nothing against him, he was just given an editorial mandate to make the book more romance focused and it turned me off because it felt so ooc for Cass to me lol. I do own some of the issues he wrote tho! I like the ones with art by Rick Leonardi). I'm not really caught up with modern comics (ish??) And I'm not reading anything dedicatedly but I hear she's in a new original book teaming up with a magic user? Neat! Good for her. I love her in the shadow of the batgirl graphic novel (IT'S SO GOOD)
#ramblings of a lunatic#asks#^ sorry had to be tistic about things for a minute#i loved damion scotts artwork for her solo series sm (especially the later moee stylized stuff even though i recognise how bonkers-#-the proportions are i can't help myself. i like women and i love stylised art like that)#his stuff was surprisingly influential on my own art. idk how much it shows these days but It's There#this hasn't mentioned anything about what i love about cass as a character but like. it's the same as most people who love her man#i love her self destructive dedication to redemption i love the guilt she's saddled with-#-and how it's juxtaposed with her committment to kindness and justice i love how she's the fucking best and she knows it#i love how the relationship between her and oracle was an intergenerational mentorship between two disabled women#and her gay ass bond with stephanie (who in all fairness may be my fav batgirl???-#-but I've also read wayyy less complete issues of her compared to cass due to the differences in how their respective series' are-#-formatted but like. what i have seen i tend to love. i love u stephanie)#but also dear god i do not wanna get reeled back in because nothing the industry ever does will please me the way the ideas in my head do#and I'm constantly at war with myself reading stuff#also it's just hard to get back in when you've been gone with a while it's all just very difficult#but i am rotating cass and stephanie in my brain like a microwave waiting for someone to explode#plenty of people smarter than me have already said this but cass should team up with jason and they should both seethe#he wants to kill. she keeps breaking his bones if he tries it. they're both brushing each others philosophies off bc of where they exist-#-on the batfamily ''kill/no kill'' binary even though they share similarities of wanting to be batman but Better#(jason via controlling crime and killing criminals and her with her ultimate dedication to the symbol and superior combat skills)#(also keep in mind i just watched utrh but haven't read a rhato comic in yonks. so if this is an outdated jason characterization+#-then whoopsie <3)#Jason's dedicated to pushing buttons and poking holes in batmans philosophy and cass is great at reading ppl-#-and sometimes in her series she then performs a limited psychoanalysis of them and tears them apart#(at least she did for shiva) I'd love to see her do that to jason. break him so i can tape his sad lil ass back together#this is getting away from me. anyway no need to proselytise. I'm a former alter boy round here

tyk women thought of the day: do you ever think about just how much shit gao xiaolian went through in tian ya ke and how alone she ends up? like, all her uncles are dead, deng kuan is dead, her dad is dead in a way that she’s clearly REALLY upset about but she has a mini breakdown about it and then takes a deep breath and goes ‘okay sorry we can get back to work now’, she and zcl probably SAW cwn and gx die and COULDN’T DO ANYTHING, unlike in shl she won’t have siji and zcl-at-siji as postcanon allies, but she presumably STILL HAS TO DEAL WITH GAO MANOR!!!! god!!!!! give the poor girl a break!!!!!
anyway the Actual Thought is: please imagine with me gao xiaolian, middle aged, stern and far less prone to smiling from having to uphold her father’s legacy and manage gao manor largely alone, but also her disciples (probably far fewer than when she was young) would do anything for her, and an extremely intimidating-but-respected mix of practical and committed to judging things fairly
#gao xiaolian#tyk#shl women thought of the day#LISTEN thats just the TAG IM USING#idk ithink shl gxl keeps her softness in a way that i think tyk gxl would not#and i like both! i just had never considered this until now and now im having fun#imagining a gxl who is very obviously her father's daughter#has inherited his sense of justice but also his innate trustworthiness that zzs describes#also she would look so good older and regal with gray streaks in her hair

I think it’s so funny that, out of all the Golden Age members of the JSA to be confirmed as gay, it wasn’t the one fans had speculated was gay so often that the writers themselves had to debunk it.
#dot.txt#justice society of america#I think we should confirm the whole Golden Age team as lgbt.#starting with the ones married to women#they’re all bi trans or both now#if we can have reincarnating bird cosplayers and the literal embodiment of divine vengeance on the team#we can have no cishet people#maybe one token straight. carter.

Saying that Barbie/Margot Robbie/Greta Gerwig got snubbed of oscars (when the movie is nominated for bunch of stuff) and interpreting it as this huge hit on feminism when we do have a woman director (Justine Triet) nominated for best director (Past Lives which is nomonated for best picture is also directed by a woman) and when we do have a native American woman (Lily Gladstone) nominated for best actress and we do have latina woman (America Ferrera) nominated for best supporting actress… Why are these women not enough for you? Does feminism only win when its the most popular white women winning awards? Why don't you celebrate all the other women who did get their recognition?
You are so focused on uplifting already privileged women you forget all the other who deserve your attention more… your outrage, while understandable on some level, seems superficial and dishonest as you yourself overshadow other, less privileged women by focusing on those who are already in the spotlight.
#both margot robbie and greta gerwig are already hollywood giants#and we are seeing all these other women finally getting recognition and appreciation for their work#and you are still crying justice for these two#make it make sense#barbie#margot robbie#greta gerwig#oscars#mine

I'm trying so hard not to obsess over every social interaction I had last weekend
#was at an sca event aimed at women and gender minority fighters#which was great! lots of fun!#however on sunday there were some panels on social justice stuff and i was like#... Im gonna have opinions and if I'm going to be salty about it I should at least attempt to engage and do something about it#so I went#and in fact i had opinions#and I participated very actively in conversations#and of course now I'm like shit did i say too much#was I too annoying#once i get started on a topic I have a hard time containing myself#(it's probably the adhd)#and I wasn't a panelist but I was probably talking about as much as the quietest panelist which is. maybe too much for an audience member?#and mostly I was saying stuff about 'please give people chances to learn and grow'#'don't kick people out for making mistakes'#but now I'm like oh gods did that make it seem like I'm against DEI stuff???#(I'm sure it did not)#(at worst I was annoying but I'm also young enough to get away with it)#but one of the people on both panels was a really really cool transfem knight who I fought in the tourney the day before#and I really don't want her to think I was trying to be contrary or anything#so many cool people why did I have to rattle my mouth and have Opinions

ok ive finished the dlc so now i can properly say my least favourite thing about dragon age awakening is that the women feel like an afterthought & don't fit in the group at all. & i want to care about them & their banter so much. but i really don't because the game is giving me fucking nothing
#dragonageposting#IM SO FUCKING UPSET ABOUT THIS. i was thinking abt it so hard last night.#(crying) please join my polycule why wont you fit in my polycule videogame why didnt you let the women fit in my polycule#it doesnt help that anders & oghren's banter w them is insufferable. especially oghren#sigrun is SUCH a sweetheart & i adore her i really do but her & velanna are just so... lacking compared to everyone else#& it's by design! & i fucking hate that it is!#did i fuck up something? did i miss quests that would've made them better? even then i don't know if it would fix the issue#with oghren you already know him beforehand hes got a whole plotline & everything in origins so its like. it fits within the plot#anders shows up at the centre of the main plotline. at the start too. he integrates himself as part of the group very easily bc of that#nathaniel also has very good reason to be there! you killed his father! he hates your guts but hes not a bad person! he has depth!#he is given the opportunity to fit in a group whose leader he comes in loathing#justice would be part of the 'you're making it hard for me to care abt this character' group if i didnt know abt him showing up in da2 prob#but even then his quest just. felt longer. he was given more to do than both velanna & sigrun#not only that but hes a spirit possessing a corpse which makes his deal very unique#i was elated to meet sigrun bc i love the legion of the dead but they just. didn't give her much.#& the whole thing w velanna wrt seranni is like;.. barely touched on. i was so disappointed the quest was so short#the women are just given nothing compared to the men & i fucking hate it i wanna care about them so bad. i want to care. so bad.#they didnt even allow me to have either of them do their joining like??? what?? it mightve been a glitched thing or w/e but??#i was just forced into the climax of the game without either of them doing their joining. and it fucking sucked#idk the later parts of awakening feel rushed. like they didnt plan to actually wrap it up & had to do it hastily.#the beginning was so interesting & i was genuinely having such a good time but by the end of it i was just tired#we barely got anything on the architect i was also hyped for him but then it was kind of nothing.

When you watch a movie in 2016 about a complicated emotionally abusive father and you related so strongly to the son who hated him so much he didn't want to go to his funeral and then you rewatch it again in 2023 and you lost all memory of who or how you related to the movie on the first watching and this time you're relating to the grief, loneliness, and financial destitution of the father and you simultaneously forgive your own father and dead step father
#like given the right circumstances not saying I wouldn't still be perfectly capable#of killing them both with my bare hands for very different reasons#but like I'd forgive them first#like i forgive you for what you did to me but i am still#an instrument of justice#and if any combination of women from their lives#asked for their deaths#i would not deny them#but now i might shed a few tears in the process

you guys are so annoying. why do i have to see discourse every year that's like "was tolkien really a woke king or was he your conservative uncle?" the guy was a devout catholic and a genteel misogynist who maintained lifelong friendships with queer people and women, and this isn't even paradoxical because that was part of the upper-class oxford culture he was immersed in. tolkien told the nazis to fuck off (and in doing so demonstrated a real understanding of what racism is and why it's harmful, beyond simply "these guys are bad news because they're who my country is at war with right now") but his inner life was marked by internalized racism that is deeply and inextricably woven into the art that he made. he foolishly described himself as an anarcho-monarchist, and it's kind of crazy to see people on this website passionately arguing that he likely never meaningfully engaged with anarchist theory, because...yeah, no shit, of course he didn't. tolkien didn't have to engage with most sociopolitical theory because as an upper-class englishman of his position, he was never affected by any of the issues that this theory is concerned with. what is plainly obvious from reading both his fiction and letters is that tolkien's ideal political system was that the divinely ordained god-king would rise up and rule in perfect justice and humility; he didn't want a government, he wanted a king arthur, even though (obviously) he was aware that outcome was impossible. why is it so hard for people to accept that he was just some guy! his letters aren't a code you have to crack. no amount of arguing or tumblr-level analysis is going to one day reveal a rhetorically airtight internally consistent worldview spanning jrrt's fiction, academic work, and personal writings, thereby "solving" the question of whether he was a woke king or your conservative uncle. his ideology was extremely inconsistent because, at the end of the day, he was just some guy.
