I think a lot of people forget that team 7 was just a bunch of misfits and literally none of them had friends at the time of formation

Can we get some headcanon for himbo gai? Just doing life being hot and kinda oblivious while kakashi simps in the background

I’m not sure i can do Himbo Gai justice, But i will try my best :)

Gai is the sweetest person you’ll ever meet. He gives the best hugs and is easily the king of moral support. There’s not a sad face in the vacinity when Gai’s around, not even Kakashi. And that’s just damn impressive.

As a morally supportive BFF, Gai wants all of his friends to be happy. Asuma and Kurenai are together? Perfect! Genma got with Kotesu? Beautiful, invite him to the wedding. The only person he doesn’t see falling in love is Kakashi and that just won’t do. He does of course ask Kakashi if he’s Aro (since he doesn’t want to push a romantic relationship on him if he is) but when Kakashi explains that he’s demi romantic, it just means Gai has to be really picky about who he tries to set Kakashi up with.

Meanwhile, Gai is also just running around Konoha, doing missions, having a good time and making all sorts of friends. People love him, and he’s always being requested for missions because of his strength and personality.

People adore Gai, and he really can’t tell when they’re just being really nice to him, or trying to pick him up. Poor boy has missed so many signals that someone is into him. His friends are impressed by just how clueless he can be sometimes. They’re also thankful though cuz Kakashi would be a sulking mess if Gai got with someone else. It would be unbearable.

Some people of course like to make fun of Gai because he’s not alwahs the sharpest, but they’ll usually find themselves getting glared at by Kakashi while Gai just straight up ignores them.

Gai accepted long ago that he has feelings of love towards Kakashi, but thinking Kakashi would never return those feelings he stuck with being eternal rivals and best friends and he’s happy with that. Too bad for him, he was wrong about Kakashi’s feelings for him.

When someone else flirts with Kakashi, Gai supports them and depending on what kind of person they are may try to help them get a date with Kakashi. Meanwhile, anyone who flirts with Gai can absolutly expect Kakashi to get angry and leave. He’s not confident that he is worthy of Gai’s love, but he’s certainly not happy with the thought of someone else getting it.

Gai actually finds himself being asked by his team if him and Kakashi are dating one day, and completly misses the absolutly shattered look on Kakashi’s face when he laughs and tells them that they are ‘eternal rivals’.

Kakashi of course takes this to mean Gai’s not interested in him and starts to sulk, prompting their friends to finally take things into their own hands. Which is how Gai finds himself being sat down and told Kakashi likes him. He tries to argue of course. Saying that Kakashi just likes him as a friend, nothing more, but their friends don’t give up and after about two hours are arguing back and forth Gai finally processes what they said and whispers ‘he... loves me?’

Needless to say, He rushes over to Kakashi right away. He can’t belive he has wasted all this time thinking Kakashi didn’t want him. That he wasn’t who Kakashi had eyes for, only to find out just how wrong he was. He doesn’t want to waste anymore time.

Kakashi’s hiding away in his apartment of course, but he never turns Gai away when he’s at his door. Even when he’s hurt, he can’t say no and ends up letting Gai in.

It... quickly turns into a very active night for them. Emotionally and physiclly. Gai asks Kakashi why He likes him, and is surprised to find Kakashi has a whole list of Gai’s qualities that he adores. He never thought Kakashi viewed him in the ways that he talks about, and to have it explained to him outright is bery eye opening.
