Journal Raffle for Wafaa's Children and Grandchildren!
Hello! ❤️💚🤍 I wanted to take a moment to share a raffle we're been holding for this fundraiser. Originally it was being hosted by @/rafflesforpalestine, but it's now independent! Unfortunately this means that we don't have the proof of donation that was sent in before this switch happened - if you participated in the raffle before, please resend your proof of donation and we can make sure you're counted among the entries!
The situation Wafaa's family is in continues to worsen. At the start of this raffle, I remember seeing her fundraiser and realizing it wasn't the first time I had - I could remember Wafaa's niece, whose smile looked very much like hope. Two weeks ago, Wafaa received news that her niece and daughter had been martyred just days apart from each other. Please take a moment to read this and remember them.
Wafaa's family is still in danger, and their situation worsens by the day. Their home has now been destroyed, and they suffer from illness and malnutrition. Tumblr continues to shadowban Wafaa's blog, making it even more difficult for her to seek help for her family, and today shadowbanned Wafaa again for what is the third time in recent weeks. Wafaa's campaign has begun to stagnate, and still has a long way to go! Please, if you have a moment, consider donating. If not, please reblog and share Wafaa's story as much as you're able!
We will be raffling some journals to help Wafaa's fundraising efforts!
In order to be entered to win one of them, please donate €5 to Wafaa's campaign and send proof of donation either to @journalsforpalestine through ask, submit, or ims, or through this google form! €10 will get you two entries, €15 will get you three, and so on and so forth.
All of these journals can be shipped internationally.
Winners will be chosen on July 31st !
tagging for reach! @appsa @magnus-rhymes-with-swagness @malcriada @brutaliakhoa @communistchilchuck @briarhips @timetravellingkitty @commissions4aid-international @mazzikah @kibumkim @stuckinapril @malcriada @dykesbat @aces-and-angels @rhubarbspring @irhabiya

Your loud voices and your heroic acts make a great difference to our Palestinian cause. 🖤💚🤍❤🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸 We are fundraising such donations to have the least basic needs of life and to help find safety and peace for the little kids who don't deserve to lead such horrific situations. "Hello there 👋 Islam, a 27-year-old from Gaza, is currently sleeping on the streets without any form of shelter or safety for himself and his family. Their home was demolished by a bombing from the Israeli occupation. While shelter is crucial, they also urgently need food and water. All of their necessities were taken away. Islam tried sharing a donation link, but with limited followers, it wasn't reaching enough people. Thankfully, he created a GoFundMe account, making it easier for those who want to help. Please consider sharing Islam's story and donating to his GoFundMe. Even a small contribution can make a big difference in their time of need. 🙏❤️ https://gofund.me/08ed0b8c This fundraiser is on the following list of vetted ones and has been verified by @/90-ghost and @/riding-with-the-wild-hunt"

€975 raised of €100,000 goal (0.9%)
"welcome everybody I am Muhammad Imad Abdel Latif Sharab First, after an aggressive war on Gaza City and its revival, we were displaced from our 3-storey house in which I and my family of 3 members live. My father's family consists of 8 members My grandfather, may God have mercy on him, was martyred by occupation aircraft on 12/14/2023. The one who was martyred while he was leaving the house to check on our house next to him, which could not be reached due to a brutal enemy who does not differentiate between anyone in death, went out to check on our house, which we were not in because of my displacement to Rafah, me, my father, and our families due to the intensity of the fighting in Khan Yunis, and after that A few days ago, our store in which my father and brothers work was bombed by occupation aircraft. He was working to gather his strength from it and meet the needs of our house, which no longer exists due to the bombing. We ask you to help and contribute, even if just a little, by donating to us so that we can compensate for a little of what we lost. Many thanks to you 😢 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 If you do not understand the words well, because I am not very good at English, but I ask you to help me with money so that I can compensate for even a little of what I lost, and I am very grateful to you, my dears😢🥺😢🥺😢🥺🥺😢" NOTE: this fundraiser has been verified by 90-ghost but not yet vetted.
@siiraj2024 | donate (gfm) | vetted by nabulsi
$10,856 CAD raised of $82,000 goal (13%)
"My dear friend, Welcome, I hope you are well *Subject/Invitation to support me in rebuilding the house* When the hope of returning home evaporates, and you become displaced and homeless without housing, for an open period, you feel that all your energy has been exhausted, and terrifying nightmares begin to dominate your mind. I worked long hours and borrowed a lot to complete the house, and I am not happy with it yet. Now all I have is the tent, in which I will stay until an unknown date. My children are living in a state of despair and loss, and how difficult it is to stand in front of them when you are unable to provide them with food, drink, and housing. My goal now is to rebuild the house, and I am very far from the goal that is a dream for us, so how difficult it is to become homeless indefinitely. You can help in the following ways: 1. Provide support and share the last 5 posts on my page. 2. Writing a post about my campaign. 3. Send the campaign link to your friends and family via mail or other social networking sites. 4. Post the question on your page as it is. The campaign is documented by Nabulsi✅ Accept my greetings🌹 Note: Please contact me via messages if necessary https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-sirajs-family-in-rebuilding-their-home"

@abdelmutei | donate (gfm) | vetted by 90-ghost
€1,152 raised of €50,000 goal (2.3%)
"Hello, I am Abdel Muti, I am 27 years old. I live in Palestine, Gaza, and I am displaced in southern Gaza. I am married. My wife is 23 years old, and my daughter, Juri, is 2 years old. We are displaced in southern Gaza, and our situation is very, very difficult, and we wish death from the few, because there is nothing for the necessities of life, especially hygiene, and the spread of dangerous diseases, and I am afraid. For Palestinians reaching out for me to boost their posts: Please provide verification either in your ask/message or on your top post! I don't have connections to Gaza or Palestine as a whole, and I have been receiving many scam messages. I'm very cautious.
I hate that I have to say this, I hate that people are using this as an opportunity to scam people, but I hate even more the idea of unintentionally supporting a scammer.
I will gladly post all vetted/verified fundraisers and reblog your posts. I add them to a queue so they continually show up on my blog.
I cannot guarantee my audience can help but I will do all I can. I do not have access to my own money but I will share fundraisers wherever I can. I'm sorry I myself cannot donate and all I can do is provide additional visibility. I do not want to go into the details of my financial situation but I do not have money of my own to give.
im not online all of the time. if i don't immediately respond to your message I am not ignoring you and hounding me as if I am is more likely to get you blocked than anything else.
CURRENTLY RUNNING A DONATION DRIVE FOR MONA'S FAMILY:
RECEIVE ART & ANIMATIONS IN EXCHANGE FOR DONATIONS TO MONA
-----
For other things;
this blog does not tolerate racism, homophobia, aphobia, queerphobia, transphobia, intersexism or exorsexism.
no TERFs or SWERFs allowed, if i reblog from one let me know. radfeminism is dogshit.
transunity or bust.
pro-contact MAPs do not interact, please.
transandrophobia is real, i have personally faced transmasc-specific threats of violence, medical discrimination, etc, so it'd be pretty weird to pretend i haven't. and it will be weird as fuck if you come onto my blog pretending the same. your mileage may vary on the verbiage itself but pretending transmascs and trans men don't face unique transphobia is just foolish to me and i won't entertain the topic.
i don't discourse i just exist. if you disagree with my existence i won't be letting you stay. simple-as. don't block-evade you will not be more stubborn than i am.
i am bad at tagging things in an organization sense but you are always free to shoot me an ask requesting a trigger-tag and i will do my best to comply. i have memory issues though and if i keep forgetting please do unfollow me.
im bipolar w/CPTSD and sometimes i will be mentalillnessposting on main but if im talking about something heavy i always put it under a readmore with CWs. so you won't be sniped with random traumadumping on your dash, promise.
I have OCD/guilt/morality issues, do not guilt trip me.
if i reblog something shitty, or post a fundraiser that's actually a scam, please let me know! everyone has blind spots and i am not exempt. i would rather know than live in ignorance.

you can deliver your regards
throgh link (please see my bio)https://www.gofundme.com/f/helping-gaza-family-to-get-out
Please check the replies of this post. (Or click here.)
I'm not going to delete this ask or remove the link just yet, as I am uncomfortable doing so without 100% certainty that they are a scammer. I'm not going to fault any of these accounts for borrowing messages or for sending multiple asks, but I will confirm that I did receive another ask from this account with the same text after posting replies to other fundraisers.
I do not fault the borrowing of messages, in the event that someone struggles with their english; this is definitely more questionable depending on how personally specific to the asker the message seems, I will concede.
I do not fault the repetition of asks, as these are 1) desperate people, 2) people who do not have the luxury of remembering every account they've sent asks to before in the midst of genocide, and 3) if they've got the know-how or ability to, or someone to do it for them, I would not be surprised or offended or anything else if I learned that some of these accounts work on a sort of bot system to help spread their fundraisers. I will repeat that these are desperate people.
I have moved my original response below the cut; the only reason I am comfortable making this edit is because this is an unvetted fundraiser. (In my original response, I said it seemed "largely legitimate" from what I could tell, and from what information I could find at the time.)
If this fundraiser is confirmed without a doubt to be a scammer, please do inform me! Same goes for any of the fundraisers I share here.
If it is confirmed to be real, also please inform me! I will edit this ask again to reflect such.
Edit again! Here's another post I just kinda stumbled upon; please read it and all its updates, then come to whatever conclusion you need to.
(Clickable link here)
From what I can see, this fundraiser hasn't been vetted yet, but largely seems legitimate! Please consider donating and/or reblogging if you are able.
And here is another photo of my cat so I can toss more tags on this:

‼️🛑 Don’t ignore this. Please help my autistic child live a normal life and help my family survive death. Hello, I am Doaa from Gaza 🍉. I apologize for what I'm about to ask. I have a heavy and tired heart. Unfortunately, the situation became difficult after I left Gaza, and I did not receive any assistance to treat my child and help us live except through you and your donations. . A donation of just $20 from each person, $20 will save my child and my family in Gaza. $20 equals 220 Swedish krona. I lost my home, my workplace, everything, and I don’t know whether or not I will bear all this responsibility outside Gaza to help my child and my family, but I know that your help will contribute to saving my child and my family. Sorry about all this.
Thank you for reaching out! At this time, I am unable to donate, but I will as soon as I reach sufficient funds. I will share your story with others so it reaches more people who can donate. I wish you and your family well, including your autistic son who I resonate with, Doaa
Help Doaa and her family! ^^^

I don't like to share financial struggles on here but, I have always made a point of being transparent as possible too. So let me tell yall frankly. I am 1-2 months away from not being able to pay any of my bills including rent. the new medication I have to switch to bc of the national shortage is $182 per month. I don't know how im going to afford it. The one i switched to already and have been paying for has had no effect at all. I have had doctor's visits every few weeks for various health issues since March and no insurance since January. My student loans have unpaused and I have been paying them for several months now. I was laid off from one of my jobs this year and the other was paused when my family member I was caregiving for passed away. I have another caregiving job now but it doesn't pay nearly enough for all my bills, medical expenses, and food. I am in the red every month and what I have saved will not last much longer.
Regardless of all this, I still do not paywall my cc, even early access, and I do not ask for donations. I took up curseforge because it seemed like a good place to host my files, and then was pleasantly surprised by the small amount of money I was able to get from it every month or so. This money doesn't even touch my expenses and will not even be enough to pay for my meds anymore. It ranges from $50-200 over the course of several months depending if I am active enough to post any cc or not. Any of you that are independent know that this is nothing in terms of the current cost of living. I haven't even received my payment from last month yet and as soon as I do it is already spent. If I had any leeway at all, I would have already deleted my cc from there, but the gravity of the situation right now is... extremely high. If I deleted it now, I probably wouldn't even get the money I already earned there, as it is still in process. And I cannot risk that. What i can do is not upload anything new to their website in the meantime. But I cannot delete my old uploads.
I have spent most of my life being vocal about social justice issues. I have donated very often to the causes i cared about, spoken to people both irl and online to raise awareness despite being in an area where it is dangerous to do so, done volunteer work, and hosted fundraising efforts. Much of my breath over the past weekend was spent talking about Palestine. It is not that I do not care about this issue- far from it. I've lost a lot of sleep trying to figure out what to do about this. It's not easy trying to weigh the impact of a boycott against your own well being. Especially getting conflicting info on whether or not Overwolf is actually supporting the IDF or just victims of the terrorist attacks as they say. It's all complicated, confusing, and heartbreaking. And even so, I am boycotting in the terms of not uploading new stuff to there and offering alternate download links for my old stuff. And when I am able, I will eliminate curseforge completely. But I hope this helps anyone understand why it's not gone immediately and what my current perspective is.

Hi there! I know that this is literally out of the blue but im asking for a favor or some help w/ my cats current situation. Please boost/share it for us so that we could get some traction or it could reach more people. I understand if its not okay, so sorry for taking some of your time and I wish you to be safe and healthy, xx.(Please considering answering my ask privately or probably send me a msg! 😭🙏
Okay, Ive heard a lot about these but didn't think I'd ever actually get one.
‼️‼️This is a scam! ‼️‼️
i followed someone who reblogs a lot of scam alerts, and it's just. Confounding that this is such a big problem on here.
Anyways, it's a scam because:
Random person I've never seen before asking me to reblog their pinned post which is a donation post
the donation post is about a pet (these people are really heinous and will try to manipulate you by having cute pet pictures right next to body horror graphic images usually)
They sent me an ask but ALSO want me to NOT publish it publicly, and instead to "message them privately" which translates to --
--- "I do not want people who are searching for the wording of my ask in the Tumblr search function to realize I have copied and pasted this message and sent it to dozens If not hundreds of users" --
Speaking of, any time you get a random ask like this for you to reblog someone's donation post, copy the text contents of the ask and put it in the Tumblr search bar. You will no doubt find dozens of other people who received the same copy pasted ask.
The super self conscious, constantly apologizing way of typing to play on your sympathies and lower your guard
Someone in the replies of their pinned post already pointed out it's a scam along with the scammers previous username of " vanessxndwich "
Someone where out there is a list of known scammer PayPals, I don't remember who made it but I can gaurentee you this person is on the list. It's a handful of people just constantly making new Tumblr accounts, stealing legitimate pet fundraiser information from the actual pet owners on other social media, and connecting it all to the same PayPal accounts.
Too long, Didn't Read: this is a scam, and you should report the account as spam asap. Any time you get an ask like this for you to reblog a strangers pinned donation post, especially if they ask for it to not be published, report for spam and block, and warn your followers.

4kindadays is a scam account
Hi! If you received the following ask from this account, please be aware it is a scammer who is known to save photos of other people’s cats and use them for a post that is copy/paste of a fake fundraiser edited to have varying names. The ask is as follows:
“Yoooo :( I know this might not really the best time to ask for help but is it okay if you could pleaseee boost/share the post I did for my cat? I pinned it on my blog, if you have an extra time please do check it out. Im terribly sorry, i just dont know what else to do :(( hoping you'd consider to help just by even spreading the word. Please send me a msg to reply or answer the ask privately and I hope you're having an amazing day! Be safe please! 🐈🙏”
As of 4/10/2023, this account is now down. But below you will find info that explains how it was a scam.
Notice how the ask requests you to answer privately or message them. This is because they don’t want the public to see their ask at all and want to keep it hidden. Another thing to notice is the content of their post pictured below. (I tried to add ALT text I hope it helps!)
This is worded in a way that the cats name and pay date can be changed around freely. Even if that date comes, it’ll be changed again. Notice there is no month mentioned so for all we know it could be this month or next month! However, the user has no intention on paying anyone back as they will block you for asking.
Another thing to notice is how the blog has only shared posts directly from the OP, meaning they may follow multiple accounts but are not interacting with any of them and simply went to the trending post area and mass reblogged from there in quick succession and then called it a day. Another thing to point out is the date of their pinned post. Why? It’s made 4/7/2023 at 8:10AM. That means it’s not even a day old.
In closing, the blog will likely change urls after I post this so be aware they do like to change names to avoid alerts like this.

public speaking is absolutely my thing, but i am fully aware that for some people it isn't. so ive decided to try (key word being try) to help out by sharing my very debatable tips. ive kind of split it into 2 different sections which make sense to me but if they dont to u ill try explain them better. anyhow lets go
for oral presentations (i know everything about this subject):
before the presentation make sure you do actually know your shit. please im begging you this is the most important thing you can do. i once absolutely winged a presentation but i knew my shit so i got an a. wouldn't recommend that if you're not to great at thinking on your feet though
if you're presenting at the same time as your peers/colleagues they're probably just as stressed as you are so they aren't as likely to judge you to high hell and back
act. i occasionally find it helpful to kinda embody a character or archetype for my speech like when im talking about a person, ill adopt a kind of storyteller mode, compared to when im talking about the school system, for example, where i'll go for a more fuckin fix this or ill make a twitter post about it
if this is an assessment, do not, under any circumstances, look at the person who's grading you. it's just a surefire way to make sure you fuck up
if appropriate, make it funny. it'll calm down your nerves and make you seem more likeable
have fun with it! if you have fun the audience will have fun and the speech will be received better as a result
for speeches (id like to thank my goldfish etc.)
keep. it. short.
you don't really need a script, just choose 2 or 3 people who you want to thank, then thank them in the order of 231 with number 1 being the person you want to thank most and then so on and so forth
basic outline is: i'd like to thank person for thing, person for thing, and most importantly person for thing
for example: i'd like to thank my sister for always stealing my food, my cat for yelling at me constantly, and most importantly, my year one teacher for teaching me how to spell supercalifragalisticexpialidocious. i wouldn't have got here without them and i really owe all my success to them. (if needed insert a monologue about what you've done) thank you and good(bye/afternoon/evening/night)
that's literally it. sometimes add a congratulations at the start but other than that you're good to go
for speeches (this week we fundraised for gerbils with tonsillitis)
start off with a brief introduction of yourself. very brief. as in "hi my names elliot and i work for the gerbil foundation."
then go to why you're there. "last week we held a fundraiser for gerbils with tonsillitis."
is necessary say why it's important. "tonsillitis is one of the main reasons that gerbils die in the united states of america."
how much money you raised. "In this fundraiser we raised over $6"
then what it's used for. "...which will be used to help treat gerbils all over the country"
say where to get more information if its needed "for more information, or to donate on our website, go to imadethisallupidonteventhinkgerbilscangettonsillitisbutidontreallyknow.com"
thank them. "thank you for your time"
maybe a "i hope to see you all at the next fundraiser!"
that's about it really
so yeah! go ahead and ace all presentations that you ever have to do ever again in your life! but just a reminder, that, like everything, speeches and presentations get better with practice. you don't have to be perfect straight away.

The Basics
Someone once asked me, “What’s the secret to successful fundraising? What’s the special sauce, the secret ingredient? Where’s the hidden treasure trove of long-forgotten fundraising wisdom?” The questions made me smile and I thought of several Yoda-esque replies I could give to make the profession sound even more mysterious and opaque to the uninitiated.
Instead, I just told them the truth: there is no secret to fundraising. It just takes time, effort, and some skills. Needless to say, the person who asked me the question looked disappointed at my truthful but lack-luster answer as if they expected me to pull out a moldy old tome, gingerly thumb through the crinkled parchment pages to the one containing my favorite fundraising spell, wildly gesticulate, and shout “Dinero appearum!”
Yeah, no.
Development professionals know the truth about the discipline. There is no special sauce, no secret ingredient, no long forgotten wisdom, that can magically transform a real estate agent, flight attendant, actuary, or circus clown into an experienced development professional. It takes work. Years of work.
However, it’s not rocket science. You don’t need an advanced degree, professional licenses, or certifications to be a successful fundraiser. Of course, degrees and certifications help establish your credibility. Fancy diplomas and shiny plaques on the wall behind your desk are nice office decorations, but they are not predictors of fundraising success. At its core, the profession of development is all about what you do and how you do it. You might be surprised to learn that the “what” and the “how” are quite elementary, my dear Watson!
Being a successful fundraiser requires a mastery of some very basic (S)KILLS that when applied over (T)IME will produce (R)ESULTS. Think of it as a math problem:
S + T = R
Simple, right? Well, yes, it is a simple equation and when applied in the field of philanthropy, charitable gifts will appear. But, contrary to popular belief, it’s not magic. It’s work.
So, what are the skills that every development professional should master?
First and foremost, be responsive.
When a prospect or donor contacts you, get back to them right away. Respond as quickly as possible. This tells them that they are important to you. Donors like to feel that they are valued by you and your organization. If a donor calls you with a question and you are otherwise occupied and cannot take their call, reply as soon as possible. If the answer to their question requires that you do some research or speak with colleagues, call them back (or reply to their e-mail message) letting them know you received their question and you are working on getting them the answer. It’s all about building good communication habits because you never know when you will pick up that phone and the donor on the other end has decided to give your organization a seven-figure gift. You don’t EVER want to miss a call like that.
Talk less, listen more
Discovering what motivates a prospect or donor is a critical component in the process of building a relationship with them. Most people don’t have their wants, needs, and desires written on a card that’s taped to their forehead. As a development professional, it’s part of your job to discover those motivators. A very wise person once said, “You can’t talk and listen at the same time.” So, when meeting with prospects and donors, choose the latter and use the former in small amounts. And, when you do talk, finish with a question. Always.
Develop empathy
Simply put, empathy is the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes — to see what they see, feel what they feel, believe what they believe — even when those shoes may be very different from your own. This is different from sympathy. Sympathy is sharing a feeling with another person because you have both experienced the same emotional catalyst. For a development professional, empathy trumps sympathy because donors come in all shapes and sizes. You will always be working with prospects and donors who have distinctly different and varied life experiences than your own. So, having the ability to make an empathic connection with a prospect or donor can make the difference between securing the gift and being told no. Now, just to be clear, this is not the Vulcan mind-meld. You’re not attempting to probe a donor’s innermost awkward thoughts and embarrassing memories. Empathy, and the emotional intelligence required to develop it, is a skill you can use to help you understand a donor’s motivations for considering a gift — without having to relive the memory of the drunk high school prom date vomiting all over their new shoes before the night’s first dance.
Practice patience and gratitude
Development professionals are driven by goals — Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that set out benchmarks to reach like total amount of gifts closed, number of face-to-face visits made, and solicitations made, just to name a few. Balancing the drive to achieve those goals with the patience it takes to move a prospect through the cultivation and solicitation process can be challenging. I have said this in other articles I have written: you cannot force a donor to give a gift. They will give when they are ready. There is a time, place, motivation, and amount for every gift. Sometimes, it can seem like it’s taking forever for a prospect come to the gift-giving moment. As fundraisers, we must exercise the patience required to guide the prospect to that moment. Then, when the moment occurs, we must use copious amounts of gratitude to ensure that the donor knows they are valued and appreciated. Think of it as positively reinforcing desired behavior. Well done! Here’s a cookie.
Keep your promises
Keep the promises you make to donors and don’t make promises to donors you can’t keep. The second part of this axiom predicates the first and both parts depend on your understanding of what you and your organization can do. In essence, know your boundaries and be aware of them throughout the relationship-building process. Next to responsiveness, this is one of the most effective ways to make a donor feel that they are important to you and the charity you represent. Failure to do this is the surest way to damage a donor relationship (or lose it entirely). But, as with expectations — which can sometimes be unrealistic both on the donor’s side as well as the charity’s — manage your promise-making with a healthy dose of realism.
Write everything down
As development professionals, we stand on the shoulders of giants. We benefit from the work of fundraisers that came before us and those who follow us will benefit from the work we do. That’s why it is critical to keep detailed records of your interactions with prospects and donors (and anyone else you come in contact with who may become a prospect or donor in the future). Cultivating a donor and escorting them to the step of making a major gift to the charity you represent can take months or years. And, with the average length of stay of a development professional at a charity being a paltry 16 months, chances are that when you come onto the job, you’ll be continuing the cultivation of prospects started by your predecessor. Chances are also very good that when you leave that charity, the development professional that comes after you will continue your cultivation efforts. So, become a fastidious note-taker. If your organization has a donor CRM system, use it to capture any and all information you can glean from your prospects and donors through your interactions with them. It is important to remember that the people you come in contact with and engage with the charity you represent, are not “your prospects” or “your donors.” They don’t belong to you. You are merely the conduit through which they connect with your charity. Treat them as your charity’s most valuable asset and manage them and their information responsibly.
Be real
Nobody likes a poser, a faker, a sheister, a doppelgänger. Prospects and donors have a particularly keen sense of authenticity and can spot disingenuous behavior right away. So, be yourself, be real, be honest. As development professionals, in our relationship building efforts, we walk a thin and not-so-clearly-marked line between professional distance and personal entanglement. In our careers, we have all strayed too far over that line on one side or the other. Our nature is to be helpful, to support the prospects and donors we meet, and assist them with achieving their philanthropic objectives. That’s why we do what we do. This can mean attending a family wedding or memorial service, visiting with them while they are on vacation, being at their bedside when they are ill. It is sad to say that sometimes these rather innocuous demonstrations of basic human compassion for them and their well-being go far beyond those of their family and friends. The social contract that governed our interpersonal behavior over the past three decades has been declared null and void by today’s civil (and impersonal) society. Phone calls have been replaced by text messages. Visits have been replaced by Zoom sessions. Handwritten letters and thank you notes have all but disappeared. Once-common courtesies like giving up your seat on the bus to an elderly person are no more. So, now as never before, there is no easy, simple answer to the question of “how close is too close?” in development work. Philanthropy can be a strange and emotionally messy affair. But, never let the pursuit of the gift cloud your judgement so that the steps you are taking lead you into an emotional abyss from which you cannot climb back out. Be real, be yourself, be caring, be compassionate, be honest, be human. And, most importantly, be true to yourself and ever-mindful of the professional and personal boundaries we set for ourselves. Your donors will recognize and appreciate you for the genuine, caring, human professional you are.
Master these skills and apply them consistently over time to the prospects and donors with whom you interact and the charity you represent will reap the philanthropic benefits today, tomorrow, and for years to come. This is the essence of being a successful fundraiser. Recognize that what you do is important, a critical function in the non-profit world, and refine your professional practice so that the charities you serve and the people with whom you work come to understand that philanthropy is the result of hard work, not magic.

But when they all suddenly devote their time and love to him, he can't help but quickly want an out. It's Oikawa's suggestion- a good one at that. Get a girlfriend to scare them off.
And what better than use you, Iwaizumi's best friend with a long standing crush on him, to play the role.

masterlist | next chapter
Iwaizumi Hajime was hand sculpted by the gods, the entire female student body deduces with fanatic agreement one blessed afternoon. His shoulders are broad, skin rippling like waves breaking on rocks under the movement of his muscles. His stomach is firm and taut with the lining of his abs and his pectorals are considerably large enough to have every single girl in attendance foam at the mouth. And as he raises one— bulging — arm to wave sheepishly to the widened eyes of the crowd, his thick and veiny hand on full display, a collective moan is heard throughout the building. It has the poor boy ducking his head downward even further.
The fundraiser arranged to cover the expenses of the volleyball team’s traveling to away games exceeded its initial goal (that of which the all-female led student council was greatly responsible for) resulting in the entire team parading themselves around the cafeteria as a reward for the students’ commitment to the task.
Shirtless.
And while attention from the female population has usually always been paid to the star setter, Oikawa Tooru and all of his addicting charm, his absence in this mouthwatering and delectable ceremony has allowed for the ace and vice-captain of the Seijoh Volleyball Team to shine. Oh, and shine, he has.
Within a mere five minutes, the fiercely devoted and militant fanclub belonging to Oikawa has suddenly converted— briefly, they insist— to the groupies of Seijoh’s Vice Captain: powerful ace, leader of offense, total hottie.
The attention increases tenfold from that point on. Suddenly, Oikawa is no longer the only one receiving love confessions numerous times on a daily basis (much to his chagrin), but instead is sharing the spotlight with his best friend, who is more than uncomfortable with the unexpected shift in notice. He was never ecstatic at being labeled as ‘Oikawa’s number two’, adamant that he was his own entity despite the intricate intertwinement with his best friend, he was, in fact, totally fine with never being hounded by girls at every minute of the day. Sure, the attention would be nice, occasionally.
But this? This is outrageous.
This is the tenth girl today to have stopped by his locker, a pink flush encompassing her face as she sticks her hands out to present something to Iwaizumi. It’s tupper ware, decorated in a pink bow with his name written in cursive on the top accompanied by some cute glitter stickers. That would make this the fourth container he’s received this morning, and as much as the whole act fills him with a deep dread and hesitation, he doesn’t have the heart to reject her gift. Especially when her hands are shaking so hard and she’s stuttering every other word out.
So he puts on the standard smile, the one that he’s seen Oikawa pump out a hundred times a day but fails to meet in equal warmth and charm, and thanks her graciously and sincerely— even though he’s not that big a fan of milk bread and this is the third one he’s going to have to shove into his locker.
He bows to her with an awkward smile, “Ah, thank you, uh…”
“H-Hina!” she shouts, her hands slapping upward towards her mouth after the outburst. The pink flushes deeper on her skin, and Iwaizumi has to wonder what exactly is going through the air for a girl to have this kind of reaction to him. He hasn’t changed, hasn’t developed a new attitude that should have girls swooning at his feet. He’s the same as always, stubbornly so. He is Iwaizumi Hajime, hardass, avid monster movie watcher and the usual second thought. He supposes he should feel somewhat elated at the long-awaited recognition, but he can’t shake off the feeling that this is all incredibly unwarranted.
It's a surface value attraction. They're not really swooning for him, just the idea of him. That stings a bit more than he’d like to admit.
“Hina,” he affirms with a gentle nod, bowing his head in gratitude, “Thank you for the treat. I will, uh, treasure every bite.”
He doesn’t mean it to be anything charming (because he’s not) nor even remotely romantic (because it’s not), it’s just what he comes up with at the top of his head, but Hina starts to shake and a watery smile spreads across her face when she hears it and he knows he’s made this whole thing much worse. Before he can even awkwardly ask if she’s alright, she bows hurriedly again before running off with a shriek.
It's then that he’s sure Oikawa is one sadistic motherfucker because there is no way anyone mentally sane could take that reaction as a compliment. There’s an intense guilt that settles in his stomach for the rest of the day for causing a girl to tremble like that.
Curse the student council for that stupid fundraiser award. He would much rather walk to every away game than have to go through another day of this.
He opens his locker again, placing the container in there amongst all the other ones and the numerous handmade cards declaring affection. He closes it with a sigh. He can only hope that this phase of adoration is reaching its end.
Quickly.
**
It does not end quickly.
It's month three of endless confessions and Iwaizumi is about to lose his mind. Word spreads about his favorite kinds of teas and sweets (which he is sure Oikawa is directly responsible for) and his locker starts to resemble a mall kiosk more than any part of school property. The outside is decorated with stickers and taped with more love cards and he’s pretty sure someone found out his combination (again) because there are balloons floating out of it.
It's a circus. One that Mattsukawa and Hanamaki repeatedly laugh about every time they see it.
He would like to indulge in the acts or at least make some kind of peace with the situation, he really would. He’s always fantasized in passing about the pride and specialty one must feel at being the center of female attention, having seen it and thwarted it first hand from Oikawa’s fans, but the longer this drags on the more fraudulent he starts to feel.
How can he enjoy his favorite foods when the girls giving it to him are blinded by a false idea of him? They’re not genuine, and if he accepted them, he would only feel like a bad guy, taking advantage of poor girls who haven’t got the slightest clue about him. Because Iwaizumi doesn’t have the million dollar smile like Oikawa does, nor does he have the oozing charm and commercial personality.
He’s hard, and stubborn, and less inclined to entertain bullshit— the complete opposite of shitty-kawa. So whatever perception these girls think they have of Iwa, they’re wrong. and he can’t accept gifts from these girls who think they love him, when in reality, he’s the furthest thing from what they assume he is.
“Why are you so adamant to believe that what they feel isn’t real? What's so ridiculous about liking you? Hmm?” Oikawa sings with a laugh one afternoon, the whole team crammed into the club room as they change out of their practice gear. the other guys snicker at Iwaizumi’s dismay, the usual frown painted on his face is permanently etched deeper into his skin and he knows they’re all getting a sick enjoyment from his torture.
The constant reliability to the chaos Oikawa brings is now subjected to his own taste of havoc. And he’s absolutely miserable.
In all of his stubborn self-sufficiency, he’s refused to even indulge the guys with a verbal complaint, simply grumbling at the gifts before moving on with his day. Intent on dealing with this problem on his own and prohibiting himself from being a burden to anyone else.
But he’s off his a-game in practice and the crease between his eyebrows is now a persistent feature on his face these days.
“Because it's not real,” he grunts, throwing his sweaty shirt into his sports bag, “They don’t like me.”
Hanamaki snorts from across the benches, a wide smile on his face as he unlaces his shoes and sings, “They only like him for his bodyyy.”
“Can you blame them? Who would ever like Iwa for his personality?” Matsukawa joins him in snickering, earning a killer glare from the victim in question. Not helping. They only laugh harder.
“So what?” Oikawa questions amusedly, ignoring the sarcasm dripping from the other two third years, leaning his body against the lockers as he watches his best friend ripple with frustration. A constant sight these days.
“So what?” Iwaizumi turns to look at him, incredulity furrowing his features as his friends look at him like he’s grown a third head for being reasonably uncomfortable with this, “It's weird. They’re giving all of these nice gifts to a guy they barely know and they all look at me like a piece of meat.”
“God, girls objectifying you? The horror.” Mattsun torts again, earning a water bottle thrown at his face.
“So what?” Oikawa laughs again, the kind of laugh that reverberates around the room and rings a little too loudly in his ears. He’s heard this laugh thousands of times over the years, coming out to play when Oikawa is far too keen on putting Hajime as the butt of a joke. The mockery is clear in his voice, bleeding in the two simple words yet weighing like a hundred. He can usually take it, dish it back with equal fervor to his best friend, but this time around, he can’t.
This whole mess of a situation sits heavily on his shoulders and for the first time, any attempt to just barrel through a problem like he so often does seems pointless to Hajime. Because no matter how much he ignores, no matter how often he declines, the girls will continue to only see Seijoh's ace. Not Iwaizumi Hajime.
He sighs. He doesn’t know what he was expecting in venting to his friends. Validation if they were any nicer, but deep down he knew it would take a different trajectory.
Maybe they’re right; Maybe he is blowing this out of proportion. Maybe he should just accept the gifts, enjoy them while he can because the girls are choosing to do it. They’re not being held against their will, nor is anyone really being hurt by these peculiar circumstances. It's, theoretically, a win-win.
It doesn’t stop the pit in his stomach from sinking even lower when he sees girls stop their chattering in the hallways as he passes. It doesn’t stop the overwhelming feeling of disappointment he feels when he notices they stare at his biceps before his face before dashing away.
Matsukawa shuts his own locker with a grumble, “Must be nice.”
“You wanna take my place, Issei?” iwaizumi turns to look over his shoulder, meeting the mischievous twinkle of the middle blocker.
“Yeah man, I do. Girls at my feet everyday bringing me food? That’s every guy’s dream.”
“Yeah, if every guy was a piece of shit like you.” The words tumble without second thought and Hanamaki finds himself clutching his stomach with laughter at the retort. He doesn’t mean to direct his anger at his friend, but it seeps into his words anyways. He’s lucky they’re good enough sports to take it in stride. Even if the twinkle in Matsukawa’s eyes dims and he grumbles a “shut up” while he slaps the back of Hanamaki’s head.
He knows a solution— or sympathy— won’t be offered in his venting, adamant that this is something he needs to solve on his own, but he can’t help himself. He just has to get it out. “I can't even go to class normally anymore. There’s always a girl waiting for me.”
His back is turned towards his friends as he folds his gym clothes into the open cubby, but even despite the absence of his facial expression, the other three sitting near him can hear the exhaustion in his voice. Much as they might tease him, they’ve sat front and center to the slow decline of Hajime’s sanity and comfort as he was thrust suddenly into the spotlight that he was ill-prepared for. He’s laughably out of his element, but his plight is severe enough for all three of them to occasionally step in.
Hanamaki and Mattsun have had their fair share of instances in which they’ve had to redirect of a horde of girls hounding at them for Iwaizumi’s location, telling them that they had no idea where Iwaizumi could have gone when in fact, he was hiding in the clubroom. And while they would’ve been more than happy to send them his way just to watch him fluster and stutter, the two friends knew the momentary laugh wouldn’t have been worth the further depletion of Hajime’s confidence and happiness. Iwaizumi wants this attention to be for something genuine, for something that he was directly responsible for and can be proud of. Not something as surface value as an attractive body.
Truth be told, all three of Seijoh's third years want to help him as much as Iwaizumi wants this to be over. But just like him, they have no idea what to do.
Hajime sighs again, “Don’t even get me started about when I’m with (Y/N). You think stalking is bad? Try having to deal with evil glares too.”
Scratch that. They have one idea.
The mention of the ace’s other best friend, the one that they’re all too familiar with, has all of Seijoh's members perking their heads upward in interest. A lightbulb going off simultaneously as they all share a glance with one another. Hanamaki looks up to Oikawa who looks to Mattsun who looks to Hanamaki. Their eyes darting between one another, telepathically asking the same question.
Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Hanamaki and Mattsun finalize their answer with a hard stare at Oikawa and smirks on their faces. They both give a long nod to their captain and like the well-oiled machine the Seijoh Volleyball Team is known to be, a plan is formulated and put into action before anyone can blink.
“Oh?” Oikawa prods, taking the initiative. His grin is suddenly more wicked than before, “How so?”
Iwaizumi notices the subtle change in tone in the conversation, can hear the smile in Oikawa’s words, but he doesn’t think much of it. Simply attributing it to the mention of the beloved figure they’re all acquainted with. He can’t blame them, finding his own mood has tipped upward at the mere thought of you. And while he has apologized to the moon and back for inadvertently getting you involved in this nightmare of a situation, there’s a resounding comfort he feels at knowing that there's at least one person on his side. One person that is willing to trudge through the mud with him, regardless of how often they complain.
Because whatever happens to him happens to you, you insist. So if he has to deal with a hundred fangirls, then so do you.
He plows on, airing out his struggles and frustrations with his newfound attention. “They’re always staring at us, making the whole thing uncomfortable when we’re just hanging out. (Y/N) even told me she once got cornered in the girls’ bathroom during lunch.”
Oikawa gasps, always enthralled with any juicy gossip, especially on the rare occasion that it involves you— his beloved, headstrong, annoying other best friend. “What did they say?”
“Some weird shit about staying away from me, like I was their property.”
“And what did (y/n) say?”
Iwaizumi laughs, a genuine one that has been missing since this whole ordeal began. He turns to look at his friends, the smile reaching his eyes and pushing upwards on his cheeks. If they weren’t sure of their plan before, the happiness on his face was enough of a push to solidify it. The happiness that only someone specific can bring out. “It's (Y/N). What do you think she said?”
Oikawa, all too familiar with your personality and deviance from the norm since age ten, huffs out a laugh, “Hmm, let me guess, something about doing whatever she wants with whoever she wants.”
“No, actually, she—”
You’re washing your hands in the sink of the bathroom when you hear a cough from behind you. Looking upwards into the mirror, you are suddenly confronted with the reflection of six girls circling around you.
A groan tumbles out of your mouth. You knew something like this was bound to happen, jealousy always emerging victorious whenever girls were thirsting after a young man. You just didn’t think it would be happening so soon, only two months into the fanatic obsession with your best friend. It’s your fault really, you should’ve prepared for a moment like this to come. But as they all shoot daggers into your reflection you can’t help but recognize how woefully dreadful this is.
You'd kill Hajime for inadvertently getting you into this if he wasn’t already feeling so guilty about it.
Each one stares at you with an intense fury, and while you’ve never considered yourself to be much of a fighter, you’re mentally preparing yourself to throw a couple of punches in this cramped bathroom. You won’t win, six against one is hardly a story of triumph, but you’ll be damned if you get intimidated by this raging group of hormones.
The faucet stops, with almost impeccable comedic timing, and a silence emanates throughout the area. It's awkward, painfully so and their silent stares are not helping.
“Uh… Can I help you?”
The one in the middle (the leader, you assume) stands with a hip jutted out and her arms crossed. You’ve seen her in passing before. Her eyes narrow at your question, “So, are you two dating?”
You have to force yourself to not roll your eyes. Of course this is where this was going. Because God forbid anyone have friends of the opposite gender. Indicator number one that the interest of these girls was superficial, considering if they even really had been interested in more than the prospect of having access to Iwaizumi’s body, they would’ve realized that you’ve been in his life for a lot longer than he’s had any redeeming qualities— including those rocking arms of his.
You won't entertain this, something you’ve been adamant about even if Hajime has insisted you don’t , especially not when it's causing Iwa all this grief that you’ve had to comfort him through time and time again.
“Who’s asking?” You all but bark back, patience wearing thin.
The one to the right of the leader— Pigtails, you’ve taken to calling her— scoffs and stomps her foot, “We are, obviously!”
Patience is below the ground now.
The left one, the one with pink hair, speaks this time, “Iwaizumi won’t even talk to us for more than a minute but he lets you hang around! So, if you’re not dating you have to tell us!”
“Why?”
“So that you can help us get closer to him!”
“Yeah, no.” you respond curtly, feeling rather nauseous at the lengths in which these girls are going just to get his attention. Cornering his friend and doing a piss-poor job at intimidating them into coercing them for information about him. No wonder Hajime's been feeling so depressed.
Taking the piss out of him used to be fun, something you and Pikawa could share profound pleasure in, but now that it's at your front door and reeking of death, you’re quickly realizing just how much you owe that spiky haired idiot.
You grab your bag that lay at your feet, turning to face the six girls with a mirthless smile despite the hatred burning in their eyes.
“Good luck with… whatever it is you’re trying to do.”
You’re almost out the door when the leader, who has puffed out her chest and taken a step forward blurts out, “If you’re not going to help us, then you better stay out of our way.”
There are few people in this world that you’ve dreamt about punching. Oikawa has made the list a couple times, but that’s only when he’s being particularly obnoxious. Iwaizumi has too, usually when his hard headedness has conflicted with yours, but even then the situation is usually better within the next hour.
But this girl, oh this girl, she has made the top of your list in record time. And you highly doubt she’s coming off of it anytime soon. And now that you’ve gotten a good look at her, you’re starting to remember exactly where you’ve seen her before.
You raise an eyebrow at her intimidation, “Or what?”
(You have to pat your back for that one because you really sound like the scary third year you’ve always dreamt of being.)
She doesn’t falter in her misplaced confidence, a smile pulling at her lips, “If he’s not yours, then he’ll be one of ours soon enough. And I can promise you, every boyfriend I've ever had always dropped his girl best friends when I asked.”
“Uh huh,” you glance at your watch that shows there are only fifteen minutes left in lunch. Might as well start on your meal now.
You pull the backpack slung over your shoulder in front of you, unzipping the large pocket and pulling out a familiar container. The girls gasp when they see it.
It's pink and has a little cat design on the front of it. Very cute and very distinct. You pop open the top, grabbing the milk bread that lies inside with your left hand and holding the lid and the box with your right. The lid is tilted forward, granting all the girls clear viewing of the cursive ink that lies on it.
The name is clear and the handwriting incredibly recognizable. The leader’s mouth gapes open.
You take a bite out of the treat, a dramatic moan escaping your mouth. You point at the girl, “Mm. You made this right?”
She doesn’t answer. None of them do. They only stare with wide eyes.
“I remember seeing you give this to Iwa this morning. It’s really good. He's not a big fan of milk bread, so he’s been giving them to me but I’ve enjoyed every single one of them! Although I am getting tired of eating the same thing over and over. So, if you’re taking suggestions, try Agedashi Dōfu. It's Iwa’s favorite.”
You lick your lips to make the point clearer. A gentle reminder of your place and their lack of one in his life. They seem to get it.
“Right then. Bye ladies! This was fun! I’m sure Hajime will be thrilled to hear all about it.”
Iwaizumi finishes recounting the story with a childlike wonder, meeting the furrowed brows and agape mouths of his friends with a joyous smile. There’s an unmistakable twinkle of affection in his eyes, one that he must not even realize is there. But it's noticeable, and his friends recognize it.
It's the same look he always gets whenever he talks about you.
It was mean of you to humiliate those girls like that, he knows, but his smile when recounting the tale is more than indicative of his true feelings behind the action. He briefly lectured you about it after you told him, insisting that it was important to be nice to these poor girls who didn’t know any better, that you begrudgingly agreed to, but he thinks about it often. Thinks about it at practice, in the middle of class, and every time he sees you.
He didn’t know how he felt about it, but from the way it warmed his cheeks and filled his chest with a weird lightness, he knew he was ultimately appreciative of the action. Honored that you would stick up for him unapologetically and protect him from unassuming teenage girls.
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Were the roles reversed he would do the same for you in a heartbeat. But still, he thinks about it. A lot.
“I haven’t seen those girls since, but I have been getting a lot more Agedashi Dōfu, so I guess that’s a plus.” He shrugs his shoulders in nonchalance returning back to the contents of his locker but the remnants of a smile plays on his lips.
“Well, how ‘bout that?” Oikawa coos. He steps closer to Iwa, placing his hands on the ace’s shoulders and giving them a good natured shake.
“I think I have the perfect solution to your problem, Iwa-chan.”
**
“You want me chu do wha?” you ask, mouth full of milk bread as the boy in front of you conveniently avoids your eye contact.
It's the seventh container he’s handed you this week, and while your little incident has quickly diminished the amount he usually receives, there are still the occasional stray containers with the sweet that he instinctively hands to you.
This time it came in a purple container. No outlandish designs or stickers like the other ones, but there is a written poem on the top comparing his eyes to the dirt of the Miyagi mountains. You suppose that’s romantic, but your leniency only goes so far. Particularly when this poem has no clear rhyming pattern.
You’ve long since passed the point of guilt for eating all of the treats that were clearly not meant for you. Hajime was much too conflicted with the gifts to even consider smelling them, so it serves as a solution to the problem to just give it to you. He doesn’t have to worry about maliciously taking advantage of these girls and you get food.
Win-win.
And while you’re not that into milk bread (having eaten it almost everyday for the past couple of weeks), your consumption of it seems to give him some peace of mind. Out of sight, out of mind kind of thing. And really, that’s all you’ve ever wanted for him.
But this is going too far.
Swallowing the last piece of milk bread, you look up at the idiot from your place on the bench. He stands in front of you, hands shoved deep into his pockets and shuffling from foot to foot.
“You’re joking, right?”
This is a joke. It has to be. There’s no way the world would be this cruel to you.
His eyes remain averted, his thumb and index finger pinching the bridge of his nose as if it would wake him up from this endless nightmare, “Look, it’ll only be until I can get these girls to back off of me a little.”
“No.”
“Wha— (Y/N).” He breathes out, a twinge of desperation and pleading seeping into his voice as he finally looks into your eyes. He doesn’t know what he expects to see, but the pure and unadulterated seriousness is not one of them. He’s almost convinced to drop the subject altogether. Almost.
“Whose idea was this?” You practically growl out, closing the container and cleaning your surrounding area of any stray crumbs. You thrust your hand outward, shoving the container his way. He takes it from you without question.
“Does it matter?”
“Whose?”
“...Oikawa.”
Of course it was. “I’m gonna kill him.”
“(Y/N),” he says your name more forcefully. It’s the same tone he uses with Oikawa when he’s being whiny. It's enough of a bite to have you stop rearranging your items for a brief moment, meeting his determined gaze with one of your own. He stares intently, eyes unwavering in their silent plea to make you understand.
That’s the worst part about it. He’s serious, and he’s confident that this is the only way to solve the problem that’s been plaguing him for the past three months.
If there's one thing you know about Iwaizumi Hajime, it’s that he’ll solve any problem on his plate and won’t stop until it's fixed. He’s responsible to a fault, refusing to burden others unless absolutely necessary. The fact that he’s viewing this to be the only solution and actually trying to persuade you is indicative enough of how desperate he is.
Even more so indicative of how truly fucked you are, considering you’ve already made a decision before he even explains further.
Damn him and that hard head of his.
Damn Oikawa for knowing what he does and still dragging you into this mess. No doubt he was thoroughly enjoying this.
“Will you please be my girlfriend?”
Damn that student council and their stupid fundraiser for getting Iwaizumi Hajime, the boy you’ve been best friends with since you were ten and had a crush on since you were thirteen, to ask you to be his fake girlfriend in order to thwart off hordes of fangirls.
Damn you for already having an answer before you can even think twice.
Iwaizumi Hajime was hand sculpted by the gods, and they were all laughing at your expense now.
end notes: whoop there it is. let me know what you all think! should i keep going? should i say fuck a degree and major in iwazumi hajime? idk man im about to.

So i got this. I answered it, but didnt talk with anyone prior to the situation about safety, so i deleted it, and now im bringing it back.
My original statement:
ok hang on. Im assuming youre talking about me reblogging things about whats happening in Minneapolis. And sure, I'm white. I can see why you think I'm being self righteous. A lot of white people are being incredibly performative right now. But this is what I have to say.
What do you want me to do? Sit home and pretend this doesnt matter? Like this has no effect on me? White silence is violence. If I stay quiet, if I dont use the platforms that I have to say something, uplift black voices, network with people to keep them safe, post updates on whats happening where, etc, I am just contributing to the oppression of black people.
I wasnt aware that it was self righteous to give a fuck about other human beings. About a community that welcomed me?
I'm not doing this for brownie points, for recognition, for pats on the back, or praise. I am doing what I, as a white person, SHOULD be doing. That does not mean I want or deserve praise. I do not.
What I DO want is Derek Chauvin charged for life and the other three cops to be charged as accomplices. What I DO want is to see these communities affected by arson and looting to bounce back stronger than ever.
I implore you to ask yourself why you felt the need to take time out of your day to do this.
ANYWAYS

Giving Tuesday!!! Help Support These Amazing Artists and Organizations!
A quick run down of a few Giving Tuesday fundraisers you can support! #givingtuesday
By Ricky and Dana Young-Howze
Mays Landing, New Jersey
This year we wanted to support the arts and not the big companies of the world. Sure you can get things on sale but that same $20 could be the difference between surviving and thriving for a theatre company. Here are some great theatre companies that are having Giving Tuesday Fundraisers that reached out to us. Are you ready to meet your new favorite artists?
The Young-Howze Theatre Journal
Venmo: @rndyounghowze
Paypal: [email protected]
We have been reviewing digital theatre since lockdown happened and since April we have reviewed over a hundred digital productions from artists all over the world! The only money we have been relying on since this all began have been Ricky’s unemployment check and small contributions from community members like you. Now as December is nigh approaching we are hoping to open a merch shop, sell ads, and start teaching workshops. However the bulk of our survival may still rely on you wonderful readers showing up and supporting our work. So please help us continue to eat and pay the bills this upcoming year.
Sour Grapes Productions
It has been a crazy year for this small production company that made the leap to digital. Genny Yosco and Chris Weigandt have brought the weekly show Bard Brunch to your screens every Sunday and numerous other digital productions throughout the year. Most notably Yosco’s “Im ur Hamlet” claimed one of three positions of Hartford Fringe’s “Best of The Fringe”. They have a sequel to that coming up in January and are hoping to raise money for administrative expenses and to help support their main cadre of actors during these tough times. If you like Punny food and irreverent Shakespeare then you have to donate to them.
Frigid New York
Dana and I first got acquainted with this company through the Queerly Festival. They must have taken a liking to us because they have opened their digital doors to us and have let us in just about anywhere we asked (and places we never thought to ask). They have been using donations and ticket sales to their digital events to keep their proverbial lights on and their artist paid during a time when a lot of theaters are closing their doors nationwide. Please consider donating to them to help further their work.
Heritage Alliance
I first met Anne G’Fellers Mason on my first year of grad school when I still thought I was destined to be a cisgender southern boy from Tennessee. We became such good friends that we quickly became the “Tennessee Twins”. Through the Heritage Alliance they have done so much hard work to keep History alive in Jonesborough, TN and the work that Anne did to start the applied theatre program and eventually helm the whole museum will leave its mark on the region for years to come. Please consider donating.
Black Lives, Black Words
Reginald Edmund likes to say that Dana and I “came out of nowhere” to review his the first in their season. Really we just followed a trail of breadcrumbs of great Black artists that led straight to his door. He keeps very talented and experienced group of artists around him and strives as hard as he can to keep Black theatrical excellence in the forefront at all times. The money you give today will help Black Lives, Black Words keep supporting great artists and to continue bringing you great Black plays.
DANA Movement Ensemble
We first became acquainted with Nick Daniels through his highlighted work in the Reparations Show by Kevin R. Free. Anytime we interface with their work we are just floored and they are trying to raise money to do even more next year. This money will go to artists fees, travel expenses, and other things so that they can continue to bring you high quality multimedia artistry.
Gorilla Repertory Theatre
Gorilla Rep broke new boundaries by taking some of their amazing cast members during quarantine and filming a new feature length production of Macbeth on their smartphones. We reviewed it and were immediately invigorated by the work. They are trying to raise money now to film a production of Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet the same way. Chip in whatever you can and help them continue to forge new frontiers.
Kinetic Etchings
We first met Amile Clark Wilson while we were embedded reporters at Hollins University’s Playwrights Lab. While you’re embedded with Hollins all you’re ever thinking about is writing writing and more writing. When Amile shared that he also ran a dance company we had no clue! Kinetic Etchings has been working as a venue for exceptional concert dance in Jackson, MS for a while now and they need your help to keep this vital mission going!
Any little bit that you can do to help these artists, from $1-$100 will go a great way into ensuring their survival in these trying times. On this Giving Tuesday please consider voting with your dollar and proclaiming to the world that you want to keep the arts alive!
