SOS SMP has been going on for a bit- and while I've only watched a little bit of it, the outrage around the lack of lore seems so weird to me.

Because for one- these creators owe nothing to you specifically. It is your choice whether to consume the content. If you want lore, go write it yourself! Make your own characters, then you have a world of adventure at your fingertips you can daydream about.

Secondly, there is so many more lore SMPs out there you could watch, that are just as good as what your favorite big streamer's or youtuber's do. Go back and watch Pirates SMP! Look for other SMPs, like Kaboodle SMP, Fable SMP, Siege SMP, etc- Go back and watch Outsiders SMP, or Rats SMP!

You are not entitled to anything from the creators you watch. Sending death threats and harassment because this one SMP doesn't have lore compared to the thousands that do is just showing how much of an entitled child you are. Suck it up, and if you don't like it- don't watch it!

To be honest the main reason was because I really wanted a hybrid in the mix who wasn't some furry creature and a reptile or amphibian or smth instead. Etho still ended up feathered but whatever it's close enough! But for ACTUAL reasoning:

He does feel damn ancient, like an old deity of the mcyt space that no one can dislike. Dinosaurs are the same!! They're old but still thought of with great fascination and fondness, everyone loves dinosaurs...

Dinosaurs are ever so mysterious, as many advancements as we make there's still so much we don't know. Just as we know jackshit about mister Kakashi skin man. Also, there are so many incomplete skeletons out there. I didn't have a particular species in mind for Etho, because where's the mystery in that? He can be one of those 5% skeleton 95% speculation dinosaurs like this guy!! Missing jaw and all

But! I'm always a fan of stuff going against its nature, especially in this case! Etho states he's not a runner yet protects his allies rather fiercely even in total silence. Eg refusing to kill Cleo in SL or to give away Tango's location during the LimL manhunt, same for Grian in SL. He was a bit flaky in 3L I think? And he only started to have genuine care for allies in LL with Bdubs? Though he is still very much a runner in many cases like during the LL Wither fight. Research also strongly suggests that most if not all raptors were solitary hunters, and the way I see Etho (through my shamefully limited watchtime of his POVs...) he feels a lot like someone who ultimately only trusts himself at the start even if he's pleasant and allying with others, and doesn't seem to think he can carry his weight in groups though he doesn't voice this a lot. That's just how Etho is, very composed, but it feels like there's an insecurity there, showcased especially in SL but again I haven't seen almost any of his POVs in full so maybe I'm talking out of my ass!! Sorry ethogirls I'm only a sidegig ethogirl myself... But yeah tldr to me he gives off the vibe of an otherwise solitary animal struggling to find 100% sure footing in a pack. In whichever ways he does go against his nature, its not usually made a show of

At the mention of a raptor, a lot of people will probably think of the glamourized Jurassic Park Velociraptors. But those awesome guys from the movies are actually the size of chickens. In general though, dinosaurs tend to be a bit.. exaggerated in media, despite how inherently fascinating they already are. And I think it fits Etho because we all know how the Lifers seem to fear and mancrush on him when he's just some dork with perfect capability to become pathetic at a moment's notice. Still, he's a clearly skilled player and still respected without question Etho's not some killer machine like some people make dinosaurs out to be. He's just a fellow creature fulfilling his role in the ecosystem 👍

been thinking recently about ccs in fandom spaces and ultimately, whether people like it or not, ccs will engage in fandom in one way or another but ccs (and other fans) need to respect fandoms and acknowledge that not all of the content is made for them

fanart is widely accepted as cool (usually as long as it’s not ship art), but other forms of fandom creativity are usually either unseen, ignored, or in fanfiction’s case, made fun of. fanfiction has a bad rep in fandoms, not just mcyt spheres.

when people think of fanfiction, they usually think of cringey ship fics made by young teens online. not all fanfiction is like this (there’s thousands of elaborate stories that could be their own independent series), but even the ones that are, so what?

fanfiction is an outlet for creativity just like fanart is, it’s just not held nearly in as high of a regard. people spend hours upon hours brainstorming, writing, and editing their fics just like an artist spends time sketching, coloring, and shading a piece of art.

fanfiction is just as valid as other forms of creativity. if you really want to make fun of it, i recommend doing so privately or at the very least ask for the author’s permission to talk about it in videos, streams, whatever

all fandom content has a target audience. a lot of the time, this target audience is not the content creators! fanworks are typically made for other fans. it’s nice when ccs engage with fanworks, but they need to keep this fact in mind especially when viewing stuff like shipping content

a lot of it comes down to curating your own experience online. yes, people will ignore or break boundaries but there’s not much that can be done other than blocking or ignoring them and going along with your day.

there’s been countless times where someone (either cc or fan) will call out another fan for making content they don’t like, even if it doesn’t necessarily break any boundaries

this causes a lot of unneeded stress on all parties and often leads to whoever was called out to receive harassment, which i don’t think should be encouraged regardless of the content

no one can dictate what a fandom can or cannot do— ccs and fans alike have tried many times in the past, present, and i’m sure will continue in the future, but no one can truly enforce rules upon someone.

just try to respect each other and various forms of fandom creativity that you see; whether this is art, fanfiction, analysis, shitposts, anything. not everything needs to be pointed out to be laughed at nor does everything need to have a callout post. block/ignore and move on if you don’t like what you see 🙏

also, as someone who has been in youtube fandoms for over a decade, this is an issue i’ve seen again & again in All youtube fandoms, not just mcyt fandoms. this isn’t directed at anyone specific, just a general word vomit of my thoughts from the past so many years :p

i think mcyt cc are playing losing game in how they treat dteam. i think they dont understand that a lot of stans, when they are forced to leave for one reason or another, they do leave mcyt space all together. like the moment shit goes down im not interested in watching people who left dteam and even more im not interested in watching people who were so tryhard to see their downfall. i know it happens sometimes people just switching ccs but even looking at the numbers, mine and craft is not as popular as it was 2 or 3 years ago. and sure the big boom happened during pandemic and we now live in different reality but i think that a lot of people just leaves and when they leave upset, they want it all gone from their lives. like i cant imagine tapping into jm stream after dropping dt like ever. i regularly block and mute ccs that i just dont want to see in my recommendations. there's also a whole thing of how they act in general. its not about that they finally proved to me that dt are evil people but bc how they treated past situations - usually in an awful way

im thinking about it bc i recently watched matpat final game theory and he actually talked about it in his vid. he mentioned how yt is is a game in which everyone can win through collaboration - ironically he even used qsmp as an example! and as contrast he mentioned beauty community that started fighting between themselves to gain viewers and steal them from other youtubers. and by the end every watcher was fed up with this behaviour and they left all together. and i wouldnt be surprised if mcyt wasnt on the same path. people mostly watch ccs for entertainment not to be involved in drama constantly. and when never ending discourse just keep happening they move to another thing that is less draining. and this is what is happening with mcyt. not only dt is losing views but every single cc in that group as well

i feel like a lot of the mcyt fandom doesn’t realize this but i guarantee you, a lot of us don’t want to see shipping content not because we think it’s rpf or something, but because we aromantic people are so fucking tired of seeing ship content all over the internet that when there is a DEDICATED TAG FOR FILTERING SHIPPING IN A FANDOM we’re rightfully a little pissed when people neglect to use use it. and we’re also rightfully a little pissed when others come in and tag our works as ships in reblogs in a fandom that appears to be generally respectful of ship boundaries.

it’s all about respecting comforts until your ship duo interacts and then it’s untagged romance posting on the dash. it’s all about respecting comforts until someone personally tells you that your tag made them uncomfortable and then it’s complaining that people are being immature and that they don’t know how your tagging system works. it’s why i physically could not finish watching double life and i had to have the tag filtered for nearly a WHOLE FUCKING YEAR because people would not tag their ships. it’s why i stopped telling people about my boundaries because somebody talked shit about me literally in front of one of my FRIENDS for doing so.

the mcyt fandom has probably been where i felt safest as a romance-adverse aro, and a lot of my fellow aros feel the same. don’t change this for us. it’s just one tag to help us out.
