I want kindness to feel like something anyone can do.

I try to set a strong example for that in the excessive amount of cookies i make bi-monthly to bring to school.

I want to inspire another person to believe that all it takes to make your world a better place is just some flour, sugar, eggs, and time.

I want to prove that kindness can be everywhere.

Especially when we live in an age of exposure, not just of our own personal lives but also of all the previously unseen horrors worldwide.

We live in an age of stress, oppression, fear, corruption, lies, manipulation, disease, and community/environmental decay under a cruel, parasitic, and overindulged capitalist power fantasy.

and amongst all of it, i want to perform the greatest act of resistance and support that i can give to absolutely everyone around me with as little discretion as possible, that act of course being pointless, unprompted kindness.

I want to make the world a better place.

One where you might bring cookies to strangers for the simple reason that a stranger did the same for you.

DP x DC: The Most Dangerous Card Game

Ok so Danny has essentially claimed earth as his. And he is fully aware that there are constant threats to the planet. Now he can’t stop a threat that originates on earth (that’s something he’ll leave to the Justice league) but he can do something about outside threats. Doing some research on ancient spells, rituals, and artifacts, he cast a world wide barrier on the planet to protect it from hostile threats so they cannot enter. This will prevent another Pariah Dark incident. However, barriers like this come at a price. You see, there are two ways to make a barrier. Either make one powered up by your own energy and power (which would be constantly draining) or set up a barrier with rules. The way magic works is that nothing can be absolutely indestructible. It must have a weakness. The most powerful barriers weren’t the ones reinforced with layer after layer of protective charms and buffed up with power. Those could eventually be destroyed either by being overpowered, wearing them down, or by cutting off the original power source. No, the most powerful barriers were the ones with a deliberate weakness. A barrier indestructible except for one spot. A cage that can only be opened from the outside. Or that can only be passed with a key or by solving a riddle. So Danny chooses this type of barrier and does the necessary ritual and pours in enough power to make it. And he adds his condition for anyone to enter. 

Now the Justice league? Find out about the barrier when Trigon attempts to attack, they were preparing after he threatened what he would do once he got to earth. How he would destroy them. The Justice league tried to take the fight to him first but were utterly destroyed, so they retreated home to tend to their injuries, and fortify earth for one. Last. Stand. Only when Trigon makes his big entrance…he’s stopped.

The Justice league watch in awe as this thin see-through barrier with beautiful green swirls and speckled white lights like stars apears blocking Trigon and his army’s advance. The barrier looks so thin and fragile yet no matter how hard the warlord hits, none of his attacks can get through and neither can he damage said barrier. That’s when Constantine and Zatanna recognizes what this barrier is. Something only a powerful entity could create. For a moment, the league is filled with hope that Trigon can’t get through yet Constantine also explains that it’s not impenetrable. And clearly Trigon knows this too for he calls out a challenge. 

And that’s when, in a flash of light, a tiny glowing teenager appears. He looked absolutly minuscule compared to Trigon and yet practically glowed with power (this isn’t a King Danny AU though).

And that is when the conditions for passing the barrier are revealed. And the Justice realize that the only thing stopping Trigon and his army from decimating earth. The only way he can get through….is by beating this glowing teenager in a card game. 

Not just any card game though. The most convoluted game Sam, Danny, and Tucker invented themselves. It’s like the infinite realms version of magic the gathering, combined with Pokémon, and chess. And Danny is the master. So sit down Trigon and let’s play.

(The most intense card game of the Justice league’s life).

After Danny wins, this happens a few more times with outer word beings and possibly even demons attempting to invade earth, yet none have been able to beat the mysterious teenager in a card game. Constantine might even take a crack at it and try to figure out how to play. He’s really bad though. Every time this happens, the Justice league worry that this might be the time the teenager looses. Yet every time, he wins (even if only barely). 

Meanwhile, Danny, Sam, and Tucker have gotten addicted to the game and play it almost daily. Some teachers might seem them playing the game are are like ‘awww how cute’ not realizing this game is literally saving the world. Jazz is just happy they aren’t spending as much time on their screens playing Doomed.

In light of my recent Asclepius and Apollo musings, I feel like it's the perfect time to post this, actually.

How do you build a human being? 

Bold question. Foolish question. But a question it is all the same. 

The memory of his father’s consternated expression is still bright behind his eyes, that unusually furrowed brow, the tension in his gentle jaw. He didn’t falter in his setting of Asclepius’ broken shin, hands perpetually steady and sure, but he hesitated for a conspicuously long moment as though reluctant to give an answer. In this body, he resembled Orpheus something fierce. The same flaxen curls of his hair, the same delicate eyelashes that stand stark against the dark brown of his skin. Often Asclepius wondered if his elder brother was nothing but a body built to suit their father’s preferences. The subtle wrinkle of skin around their eyes when they smiled was the same, and the steadiness of their hands, the soothing power of their presence. 

And Orpheus did not bleed like Asclepius did. The blood in Asclepius’ veins were as red as any human’s, any mortal’s, but Orpheus seemed not to bleed at all. Even when he’d suffered the same fall down the crumbling cliff as Asclepius had. Even when his skirts had ripped and jagged stone sliced into his shanks. 

Even so, Orpheus was unmistakably alive. His eyes were rich with grief fresher than any blood spilt from the worst of Asclepius’ wounds, his counsel too, was tempered with the wisdom of a life well lived. So even at the apex of his most perfect, inhuman beauty, Asclepius never once doubted that his brother was a human being. Just that he was more divine construct than flesh and blood. Just that their father had built for himself a son that would not break as easily as all the others. 

His father stayed silent for so long that Asclepius assumed it would be one of the million questions that would go unanswered. Then, just when the last of his bandages had been wrapped - 

“A human body is easy to build,” he’d had that faraway look on his face as he spoke, like he was speaking to the horizon. Or a version of Asclepius that was not quite here. Such things happened from time to time. “Any flesh would do. From men, or animals, or even monsters. Any flesh would do.” Their gazes had locked then, and Asclepius would never forget the flecks of gold which swirled in his father’s blue eyes, the weight of divine words rattling at the boundaries of their mortal apparatus, “But the breath of life, a living soul? That is beyond your means as a mortal man. You ought never seek it.” 

(Asclepius would remember these words when he revives a man for the first time at the age of nineteen. He’s surprised to find that his father is wrong for once. Souls are easy to source when they’re already eager to return to their mound of flesh.)

Okay, I absolutely love the idea of Kirk and Spock having a telepathic bond. It is my most favourite concept ever and I really wanna use it in a fic one day.

BUT ANYWAYS! The reason it's my favourite because of how much Kirk and Spock could use it. They literally can send each other their THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS, what's not to love?

Like imagine some stuffy admiral comes on board and Kirk can hear Spock get irrationally angry when said admiral disrespects not only Kirk but the rest of the bridge as well. Or there'll be idle chats or questions of things like "what does -insert figure of speech here- mean?" or "could you tell me something about this place honestly where ensign ridley can't hear? i don't want the poor boy to get scared"

BUT ALSO IMAGINE IT IN LIKE AN ANGSTY CONTEXT TOO.

Like whenever one of them is rendered immobile does the other try to reach out through the link? When Spock died in WOK did he give Kirk one final "I love you, T'hy'la." before dying? Did Kirk try to fruitlessly reach out through the link right after Spock died just to ensure the bond was dead?

SIMILARILY- when Kirk died, did Spock similarly try to reach him? Illogically reaching for a man that is gone and who cannot be saved now?

Ooh the possibilities are endless and I love telepathic bonds so much.

Can you imagine being a mortal scientist who studies stars or space or similar fields after Artemis created the constellation to honor Zoë Nightshade? You have no knowledge of Greek gods, no idea that this Huntress really existed, no idea how a new constellation has just been formed out of stars that never even existed prior to one random night in December. You’re worried it’s a sign that the gasses that make up stars are becoming unstable or that more stars are being created, faster than discoveries can keep up with them. You have no idea what this means for your field, but it definitely changes the focus of all the discoveries you’ve made in the past year. You decide that many of the scientists in your field should gather to discuss this new phenomenon, but you have little hope that the discussion will bring any greater understanding. In my head there's a picture of this tyrant that twirls their moustache and cackles maniacally as he pets a weird white animal, like an Austin Powers version of a Bond villain

Mythal at one point was so exhausted with his and Elgar'nan's shenanigans that she had to intervene (shocker). "Dude you and your dad are insufferable and you're incapable of throwing hands, just send your best guy to fight with his best guy so we all can have one (1) full night of sleep" [source]

In my imagination, the scene plays like that Raiders of the Lost Ark duel, with Falon'Din still arguing that the other champion shot (slashed??) first even centuries later

"That was an irregular blow and you know it!" gets set on fire*

"You have to agree with me or I'll throw a tantrum" gets himself a pair of wings [source] and knowing how extra this guy is, the wings are totally literal.

"Oh, my followers will love this" literally doesn't care about his followers, but he needs someone that compliments him and his weird white animal so he's gonna collect them all from unethical sources like a deranged Team Rocket grunt

Emmyyy that winged Ace art😭 it made me think of an icarus/apollo au, cause there’s a reimagining of the myth with icarus and apollo as lovers and icarus built wings to reach apollo, and i’m just imagining a sorta tragic au where luffy becomes nika, losing his humanity and becoming the sun, and Ace builds wings to fly up to him😭 anyways, i upset myself and wanted to share haha

anyways, continuing with the trend of dodging my drafts like the plague, creech ( @manebloom ) was talking about an in character dnd game and the premise made me genuinely curious about how that would actually play out. it's very meta for a fictional character to play a fictional character, but i think it actually brings a lot of insight into your character to think about what they themselves would like out of their player character!

for anyone who's made an OC, you can agree that a part of ourselves always gets into what we make. so to see what our characters would want out of their characters gives a very fascinating look into their mental!

     I was spinning it in my head during the day today and came to the conclusion that Rosalina would want to inhabit something that harkened back to her younger years. Here, in the now, she wouldn't want something that's too much like how she is today. In our world, Dungeons and Dragons allows us to take up a larger-than-life personality and live in it for a campaign.

     ...But Rosalina is already a deific entity of nigh eternal life. She's not going to get much out of playing your standard wizard. Something she hasn't experienced, though, is much of her past life. She is the classic case of someone who had to grow up faster than they should have. She left her home planet for an interstellar voyage with Luma around the age of thirteen. Even then, when she was a kid, she often looked after her little brother as though she were his second mother. Her maternal mindset starts young, that much is true.

     So, instead, she would want something closer to the mundane. In my head, for her head, I picture a younger woman around the age of fifteen or sixteen. Someone still coming into her own. She's a practitioner of the arcane arts, as Rosalina enjoys the magic she wields. But in this fictional world, the difference is that it is not innate. It is something that she actively practices, she learns it like a craft. The aspect of being reborn into her powers always rubbed her the wrong way. In the worst of moments, it feels as though she cheated her way to the top, even though she's practiced to control the power she owns.

     And for a bit of spice, Rosalina wouldn't mind having a more melee approach to her character. As she is now, she is strictly an arcane caster. In extreme moments, a celestial bow can be formed to her side for those particularly tough cases. Which is still a long-range option. She would want the exact opposite for her character. I believe an Eldritch Knight would be the most apt class for Rosalina's personal preferences. Someone with strength that is wholly their own. Nothing married into, so to speak, even if the method she received her powers in reality was deeply personal.

     The character's personality wouldn't be all too far off from who her creator is now, though. Just... perhaps with a little bit less weight on her shoulders. Someone who has the same lust for life as Rosalina had/has, just not with so many restraints. She still speaks as Rosalina does, she holds herself as an intellectual. She has a touch of haughtiness to her, but that's mostly just because she has a habit of wanting to look her best in order to impress those she meets.

     Finally, the name. I don't have a name for Rosalina's player character off the top of my head, but let's just use... Magnolia. Or Maggie, as she would prefer. A simple-ish young adult who's honing her strength both physically and in the arcane. She strives to own a power that's her own, something that makes her feel like her.

     And here are some extra smaller details as I think about them.

Rosalina wouldn't mind DMing, but it's far from what she'd prefer. She wants to be a player, but I have no doubt that she'd make for a fantastic DM.

She cares about stats and things like that. Not exactly a power gamer or anything, but she likes synchronicity in her build. She'd like her character to be competent, please.

Rosalina is definitely bringing snacks. Whether she's the DM or not, she's the group's food leader. Taking down what everyone wants for lunch and being the one who orders it.

RAW is dumb, rules are good until they get in the way of fun. It's followed until the rules in the book start mucking things up.

Theater of the mind is perfectly fine with Rosalina. Having a board with figurines is also okay? But Rosalina's intrigue is in telling a story. The combat isn't large factor for her.
