i had to put this under a cut because i realised it's really hard to summarize 20k words concisely. and also because i decided to just paste parts of it directly

consider this your warning that if you click this you will suddenly have 3k extra words of charlos wag yuri on your dashboard

carlos is married to gigi, who becomes alex's personal trainer (and alex is a ferrari driver <- i have an agenda) she does not enjoy being a driver-adjacent wag because she doesn't enjoy attending races or being home by herself, but it's bearable because she becomes friends with alex's gf. sadly alex's gf has her own career so she goes through a period where she doesn't have anyone to talk to, her husband is busy, and she's lonely again

the general ferrari mood at this time is dismal because seb is washed and alex is new to the team and struggling with the car. she sees charles around a lot and like vaguely knows her in passing but they've never really talked before, she mostly hears about charles in the context of "why is this 23 year old girl distracting the guy we hired to win us a wdc from salvaging his career" she doesn't like or dislike charles personally but she does wonder if charles is a distraction. and this lowkey pisses her off since of course has poorly repressed anger towards the fact she isn't a driver. in this universe it's even worse because like, her dad is a driver, so people are constantly telling her "wouldn't it have been sooo cool if you'd been in motorsport too" yeah bitch it would've been...

during yet another mediocre weekend for ferrari, carlos and charles have a meet-cute in the bathroom where charles is struggling to do her makeup and carlos offers to do it for her. then the following evening one of seb's mechanics is leaving the team so they have a team dinner, and the only open spots at the table are beside sebchal... so carlos ends up sitting next to charles and they talk all night.

charles follows her on ig, which kind of surprises carlos because she's not even like. A Real Wag. but charles is very friendly and keeps messaging her and carlos gets the impression charles has zero friends in the paddock (which is true according to alex's gf) which. well. carlos is in the same situation too so they might as well hang out with each other. and carlos starts to genuinely like her even though she thinks charles is a bit naive and childish. cue a series of uncomfortably gay moments:

they go clubbing and carlos has to drag charles' drunk ass home while charles complains about sky sports

seb dnfs in a race and carlos has to talk her down from committing a crime

they go golfing and carlos posts a video of it which creates a bunch of yuri truthers on tumblr <- this is when carlos starts realising charles is actually pretty attractive. but not in a gay way.

charles invites gigi/carlos (and alex and his gf) to go yachting with her and seb (seb does not care for yachting but he does like seeing his gf in bikinis) so gigi and carlos pack up their shit and go to monaco for a few days

one night carlos wakes up and finds out that charles is going for a swim by herself. in the middle of the night. which carlos does not trust her to do so when charles invites her, she says yes and they walk to the beach together. carlos has this weird feeling the whole time like. charles is being weird. or maybe carlos is being weird and projecting. either way something is weird and there is an unnecessary level of detail in carlos' observations about charles' body during this time

they talk about various things like their careers (of which charles has none) and seb's career (of which charles is pretty sure seb will be sacked very soon) charles gets progressively more upset during this conversation because. they're only talking about sad things. and carlos is once again reminded that charles and seb started dating when she was like 21. eventually this conversation happens. warning this is completely unedited

yeah and then they kiss.

obviously carlos freaks out, runs away, and proceeds to spiral while trying to conceptualize how the charles she's known for the past few months is the same charles that kissed her and supposedly wants to have an affair with her???

carlos feigns being sick to not leave her hotel room all weekend, and while digesting a q2 exit for both ferraris, there's a knock on her door. it can't be gigi since he's at the track, so... she knows who it is. goes to answer the door, and finds charles swimming in some hideous hoodie looking like a kicked puppy

charles apologises for making carlos uncomfortable, she thought they were on the same page. carlos is like Girl all you ever talk about is seb what do you mean same page. and then charles gives carlos essentially the same spiel that lando thinks about charles in the charlando fic, about how they're both unfulfilled and they're the only ones who can understand each other etc etc. i never got around to actually writing this but i have the dialogue:

after some more back and forth charles kisses her again and this time they are right beside a bed so. you can guess what happens. and then it becomes a Thing, because charles is right and it feels good to release all that tension for once. like, she can be a bitch to charles and charles is fine with it because she very much wants to be a bitch back. then after they fuck they go back to being normal, sweet friends. repeat cycle

as you can probably tell this fic is nowhere near over atp yet i had already written 20k so... yeah it was getting a little too long in its projected length lmao. at some point charles tells carlos her and seb are getting married, and the conversation goes very similarly to the charlando fic. except charlos are actually friends here so charles is a more open about her fears:

there was also a part where carlos overhears sebchal fucking because i thought it'd be hot. ignore the tense change this was when i couldn't decide if it should be past or present tense

the other issue is i couldn't figure out where i wanted this to go exactly for charles' side. like idk why in the charlando verse i could very clearly picture sebchal breaking up but in this one it feels less certain to me. maybe because carlos is a fellow wag and not a driver... like cheating (with carlos) is one thing. but cheating with a coworker who is much younger and currently better than you (with lando) is another

for carlos' side i liked the idea of her and gigi getting a divorce just because i was leaning towards sebchal staying together, and the image of carlos (the pov character) being the one who ultimately suffers more while charles seemingly continues on with life with no consequences (not technically true but from carlos' pov it is) was the most rancid and therefore best ending i could think of. life is simply not fair...

like this girl comes into your life, fucks you (literally), gets married to her boyfriend, gets exposed, then grows a conscience and leaves you in the dust while you struggle to pick up the pieces.......

if they were guys maybe they could've ended up together but i wanted to write toxic. yuri. specifically.

though now that i'm typing all this out maybe a good ending would be carlos somehow ending up with alex (<- purely because i think this would be hot but tbf it could be any human male) and being like. i am never touching a woman ever again holy fuck

You met Peter in your elective sociology course because out of some type of spite your professor told you to look to your right and you'd see your partner for the whole semester. Any discussion board completed had to have both of your names on it, any project you had both would turn in together. Meaning it felt like you spent every waking moment with this geeky asshole. The first thing he did after your first class together was ask you out.

The absolute audacity of this man because what the fuck? You had traded maybe a total of five sentences to one another the whole class. He was cute, you had to give him that..till he opened his mouth.

"Do you want to like go out with me sometime?" "Like to work on our discussion posts? Or the project one like what do you mean Parker?" "No, no." He laughed throwing his head back holding the door to the lecture hall open for you. "Like I take you to a movie, or a bar or something and we get to know each other. A date, you ever been on one?"

How dare he assume you'd never been on a date? You'd been on several dates since getting to ESU, did you look like someone who never went on dates? For that sole reason you turned down his offer, and you didn't feel like listening to him talk about his dumb frat and whatever stupid four year degree he was completing. (He was probably a business major or something.)

However he was a very good sport about it, shockingly, most frat boys would throw a tantrum like a three year old in the you section of a Walmart but Pete was chill. He nodded and said he understood and when, not if, when you changed your mind the offer would stand. What a cocky asshole.

A few weeks later in the semester is when you finally get to know Peter Parker and not Peter the frat boy. He showed up to the library (30 minutes late) soaking wet and shivering. "Where's your jacket?"

"Harry took it, they're doing rush stuff in the rain he needed it more than me." He says shaking his hair out of the ball cap he was wearing, and what was hidden under the hair shocked you.

Peter's dark brown hair that was there in class Monday morning was now a (unevenly) bleached blonde. "What the fuck did you do to your hair." "I didn't do fucking shit to it." He said a laugh in his chest. "Fell asleep in the den woke up being told to rinse my hair out. The older guys got to me for prank week or whatever." "That's fucked up." "Mhm I put itching powder in their after shave and shampoo after don't worry about me pretty girl. I get even." He smirks. "This is why I hate greek life." "Mhm pays for college what can I say. I wouldn't be here without it." You hadn't considered that as the reason Peter joined greek life. You knew they got benefits but, Peter just fit the stereotype to well. "Really?" You asked. "I'm a poor kid from Queens babe, I missed my SATS and ACTs more than three times. It's a wonder they even accepted me into the biophysics department. Then I wanted to double major with biochem and I basically had to get on my knees and beg the frat to let me in and pay for my degree." He laughed looking at you, playfully tapping your arm. "Didn't hurt that my uncle was an alumni, so I'm a legacy." You stared at him like he had three heads, he seemed so real in that moment. Suddenly he wasn't the asshole you met on your first day assuming you'd want to date him, or he wasn't the jackass you saw playing basketball in the front yard of greek row with girls drooling on him. He seemed like everyone else you knew.

You also stared at him because his hair was distracting. Slamming the book shut you put it into your bag, and stood up. "Come on, blondie." His head snapped up at you, eyes squinting a smirk on his face. "Is this you picking up that date offer." "No this is me fixing your hair because this is an eye sore and I feel truly bad for you." You laughed putting his hat on his head pulling it over his eyes. You stood in the middle of your dorm room that night, clipping a pink princess peach towel around Peter's neck as your re-bleached his hair, and he typed up the last few parts of your first project. Having him explain his bad chemistry jokes to you, which he sneakily replied:

"The one spark I know is positive is between us" You rolled your eyes calling him a cheeseball. It seemed that moment on wherever you were Peter went or vice versa. You found yourself in the bio lab with him a lot, working on discussion posts or doing notes while he worked. You two enjoyed each others company, with no labels. You had taken him up on the offer and didn't even notice until you were walking out of the bar a couple blocks from campus, having gotten drinks with him and his frat friends. Who knew you by name before you even walked in. Peter held your hand as he walked you back towards your dorm, a cigarette in his mouth. "You tell your friends about me Parker?" "Yeah I do. I'm slowly indoctrinating you into the greek life." You rolled your eyes in response, nudging him playfully. He laughed blowing smoke out of the side of his mouth, putting his cigarette out on the brick wall. "But no, I told some of them about you the day we first met." "Really?" "Mhm I thought you were fascinating, I couldn't get a word out to you, you were so smart and pretty. Only thing I knew to do was to ask you out and you said no and I had to tell them the moment I thought I feel in love." He jokes. You stopped in your tracked staring up at him. "You are such a..just kiss me." Peter laughed grabbing your face, pulling you into a soft kiss. Hands stroking your cheeks, as you soaked in every second of the moment you can. fucking hell ya'll,, we're almost at the end of this and I simply can't believe it and don't want to believe it simply because I don't want it to end and I don't see how the fuck they're going to tie up all the loose ends in just the next two episodes.

The Attic

TMA statement fic. Statement of Michele Johnson regarding the attic of her childhood home.

My house has never had an attic.

I have the original blueprints to prove it now, a diagram from when some uninspired architect planned the place out back in the 70s, but truth be told, I knew it well enough before I ever lay eyes on those. There are only four models of house in my subdivision, after all--classic suburbia, right?--and I'm close enough with the neighbors that I've been in a few other houses in the same model, without spying even a hint of an attic there. It's a weird feeling, honestly, being in a house that would be identical to your own if not for the furnishings and the wallpaper and the occasional addition.

Plus, my parents are kind of neat freaks... well, my dad is, anyway. Maybe it's his asthma, but he's always been really big on keeping the place clean, making sure dust doesn't build up, all that good stuff. So if we did have an attic, we definitely would have cleaned it at least once in the over three decades that I've lived here.

...right, to clarify: I've lived in the same house all my life. Nice enough house in a nice enough suburb. Three bedrooms, two and a half baths, decent schools, you can walk to a McDonald's and a WalMart without breaking a sweat. I know that place like the back of my hand at this point. Hell, I could probably draw a detailed blueprint like this one for the other three models in our subdivision, too; this has been my neighborhood since I was a little girl, and most of my neighbors are also my dear friends at this point.

But it's one thing to know, abstractly, logically, that the house can't have an attic, and another thing entirely to hold the blueprints for your own, clearly attic-less house in your hands.

Because here's the thing: one of my clearest childhood memories revolves around that attic that doesn't exist.

I was... six or seven, maybe, at the time. Not my earliest memory, but up there. And my older sister, Heather... I'm not sure if she was quite a teenager chronologically at the time, or just a tween who was all too ready to grow up, but she was already full of that classic teenage rebellion. Even though it was a quiet night at home, she had a face full of make-up that she had clearly put on herself, none of it applied quite right, all of it colorful and glittery and bordering on downright gaudy.

Heather was standing between my bedroom door and the ladder leading up to the attic, and she had a pickle ornament in her hands that she kept dangling in my face. I've never liked pickles, see, and she was making a rather ham-fisted joke about it, or trying to at any rate. I didn't think it was funny, though.

Then she tossed the ornament onto my bed--thankfully, it didn't break or get lost in the process, landing cleanly on one of my pillows--and said that she was going to see what else she could dig up from the old Christmas decorations in the attic.

I can picture Heather so clearly in that moment. Her frizzy brown hair wasn't up in a ponytail like she usually had it outside of the house, but left loose, with a few strands falling onto her face. Her nails were long and painted an eye-searing hot pink, with the nail polish already visibly chipped in a few places. She had on an old Phantom of the Opera shirt that was a hand-me-down from our mother, clearly too big for her and now covered in dust and grime, and her jeans had holes in the knees that she refused to let our father repair. If I close my eyes, I can see the way her wild hair moved as she took each step up that attic ladder before disappearing into the murky depths beyond, the way bits of dust fell from her clothes onto the floor below.

The memory is clear, and it feels as real as anything to me, but I know that it can't have happened. Because my house has never had an attic. And because, as my parents so delight in reminding me whenever they think I'm acting up, I have always been an only child.

I don't have any other clear memories of Heather, but I remember a few pieces of information about her, have a few fleeting glimpses into daily life with her as my sister. Her favorite color was a tie between green and pink--I can picture her thumb nail painted a neon green, with a stripe of dark pink down the middle. She wore a ton of spray deodorant--the bathroom we shared would reek of it on school day mornings. She was a picky eater--I can see her sneaking a handful of vegetables to Elmo, our family dog, under the table. She had a beautiful singing voice, and sometimes, when I close my eyes and concentrate, I think I can almost hear her singing Christmas carols.

The pickle ornament is real--it's been on our Christmas tree ever since I can remember. And I spied the Phantom of the Opera shirt in a pile of clothes my mother was giving away to the local Goodwill a few years back. But no one else, it seems, remembers anything about Heather. Or if they do, at least, they haven't admitted as much to me just yet.

They aren't just keeping quiet, though. I've done my research, once I was old enough to think of it, old enough to wonder if Heather was just the subject of some family scandal they were trying to keep hushed up. The common last name didn't do me any favors, but after hours and hours of fruitless searching, it became pretty clear that there was absolutely no record of one Heather Johnson being born to my parents, or living in the area, or existing as my sister in any way.

And, of course, there's no proof that my house ever had an attic, and every bit of evidence to suggest that it never did.

I still think of Heather sometimes. At my parents' funerals, I wondered if in some other world, she would be there to give a eulogy for each of them. When I got married, I thought that maybe if she really existed, I might have made her my maid of honor. But I know better than to bring her up in polite company, at least. I learned early enough that those who don't know better think I'm either lying or insane when I mention the sister that doesn't exist going into the attic that isn't there.

I'd write it all off as just fodder from an overactive childhood imagination, maybe, if it weren't for what happened after I started putting together the nursery.

I'm expecting, see. My baby girl's due to be born next month, though Derek and I haven't decided on her name yet. But while my husband and I sleep in what was once my parents' bedroom, what was once my bedroom is now being set up as her nursery. Bright purple walls being painted baby pink, putting the crib in place, all that sort of thing.

I don't know if it has to do with me spending time in that room again, somehow, or if it's just a coincidence, but several times now while I've been working in that room, I've seen the attic again.

Or--not the attic itself, actually. Just the outline of where it might be in the ceiling, a patch of wallpaper that's less dusty than the rest because we'd move it to go in and out, dings and dents in the wood floor in an area where nothing has ever rested... evidence of the attic, perhaps, but not the attic itself. Just enough to look like the attic is there, had always been there, until I blink and it all goes back to normal again.

I screamed for Derek the time I saw the attic ladder out in the middle of the hallway, but by the time he arrived, there was nothing there. Because how could there have been anything there to begin with? After all, my house has never had an attic.

Except, apparently, when it does.

I didn't look up there when the ladder was open, though. I'm trying to ignore it as much as I can. Trying to ignore the part of me that wants to learn more, wants to explore what might or might not be there, wants to see if climbing up there will reunite me with my sister Heather after all.

But I can't do that now. I know I can't.

Maybe I can accept being an only child now, but I won't accept my daughter growing up without her mother.

**part one**

Jonathan Kent lifted his head from in between his knees. He met Damian’s eyes, just after Damian had spoken, then he lowered his head again, closing all contact with the figure in front of him. He knew what this was about, and he was tired of it. His weak hallucinative brain was playing games on him, making him see things that never were real. 

Jon lifted his head as Damian broke a small silence. “Why did I just catch a piece of Kryptonite, Jon? Why are you- why are you bleeding?” 

Jon reached for the bag beside him, tosses it at Damian, and with that same hand, he wiped his eyes, clearing his view, a small portion anyways. 

Damian placed the crystal he had caught in the bag and held it in front of him. “Why?” He gestured at the pieces of Kryptonite scattered on the floor. 

Damian continued, “Did you have a fight with your teammates? Your dad? Have you even called your family on earth? I know I haven’t received a call from you.” Damian paced on the floor, crouching down and picking up pieces of Kryptonite Jon had thrown just earlier. “Did you fight with your girlfriend? She was the one that sent me here, she said you weren’t ‘doing okay’.”

Jon moved his legs slowly, crossed his legs slightly. “I don’t have a girlfriend,” Jon mumbled.

Damian walked towards Jon, then crouched to pick a piece of Kryptonite beside him. “Is that why you’re… doing whatever it is you were doing? Did you break up with your girlfriend?” 

Damian walked away from Jon, and Jon couldn’t help but stare at him. Could this be, could he be real? Or was this his mind toying with reality and not, as it always did?

“What?” Damian snapped. “Why are you looking at me like that? It’s not like you’re crying over me or anything.”

Jon kept quiet, he just stared at Damian, blankly, trying to figure out which occasion this was. He turned away, leaned his head back on the wall. 

Damian’s eyes widened as he picked up another piece of Kryptonite “No. No, no, no, Kent!” His voice was harsh and unforgiving. “You don’t- you can’t just hurt yourself because of me! It’s not- I’m not-” 

“What?!” Jon raised his voice, it rung a bit in his ears. “Are you not worth it, Damian? Are you going to pull a fucking movie scene on me?”

A silence fell between them, and Jon watched as Damian picked up more pieces of Kryptonite, each smaller than the last time. He felt like a child, a child that had just thrown a tantrum. He hadn’t noticed he shattered so many. 

“Do you remember that letter your wrote? For english Class?” Damian tied a knot in the bag of kryptonite, despite there being slims of pieces on the floor. “The whole ‘best friend’ paragraph.” 

Jon nodded, and Damian continued. “Well, i guess the whole school wrote them, because I had to write one as well.” Damian took out a piece of paper, then read it to himself. Then he crumpled it into a ball, threw it at Jon. 

Jon caught the ball, barely, and he opened it, despite flinching with every movement of his hands. He started reading it. 

I moved in with my father when I was ten years old. I knew what to expect, all things different. He wasn’t affiliated with those my mother was, he didn’t do things the way my mother did. I have learned a handful of things since then, one of them, one i hold dear to this day, the importance of an Acquaintance.  Someone with nothing but good intentions towards you. 

After three years of living in Gotham, Jonathan Kent and I met through our fathers, yet I made the realization still a few months past that. 

I am still unsure of where it came from, the whole trope of ‘having someone’s back’. In order to have somebody’s back, you must stand behind them. A friend would do that, whereas a best friend would not. A best friend would stand beside you, risking all they can to help you. 

Jonathan Kent is my best friend because he has been there for me countless times. If i had to describe him in a word, I would say he is constant. I suppose those don’t describe him in literacies, but in my life, he is constant. A constant ally, Jon had been patient when we met, when thigns weren’t the best they could be. I warmed up to him, although it could be said that it went both ways. 

Jonathan Kent is my best friend because he stands beside me, every single time, when things get hard, and when they don’t.

Jon looked up from the paper, saw Damian leaning on the wall in front of him. Tears prickled Jon’s eyes, he held the paper up for Damian to see. “Did you mean this?” 

Damian shrugged, and Jon couldn’t pinpoint a specific feeling behind it. “I used to.” 

“You- used to?” 

Damian straightened his posture. “Well, yeah,” he looked at Jon. “You had just… left. Like that, out of the nowhere. You had said you were going off to your grandpa’s but i thoguht you meant the Kents. I was convinced you meant the Kents. You always did like to visit Kon.

“But then you didn’t show up for Patrol, not even that thursday, for Kebabs,” Damian pursed his lips, then continued. “So I talked to Clark, and he said you were in space. With the grandfather you had never mentioned.

“I wasn’t worried though. I knew you’d be fine,” Damian paced around the room. “I mean, you always were. And then you came back, and I don’t know how i feel anymore. I thought you were mad at me or something.”

Whatever warmth that had built up in Jon’s chest evaporated. He snapped right then. “Oh, yeah, Damian? Well, i’m sure that it wasn’t you that spent years lost in outer space, trying to figure out why not a soul had come look for you.”

Jon laughed bitterly. “You hadn’t tried for years to keep your sanity, Damian. You- you weren’t hearing voices those three weeks I wasn’t there!” 

His wounds were closing rapidly, allowing Jon to fly himself to his feet. His head spun lightly the moment he straightened himself, his torso felt like static, an all-too familiar feeling. He sat on the bed, kept his hands in his lap. 

“You’ve mentioned that a lot,” Damian pointed out. “You hearing voices. Care to elaborate?” 

Jon kept his eyes straight at the door. “It was weird. I was seeing things that I knew weren’t real, but I couldn’t help it. It was tempting, a little company. Someone to talk to, someone to keep habits with. Though, I wasn’t seeing as well as I was hearing. If I closed my eyes, i could pretend I was at home, that I was being called down to dinner. That the chains around my wrists were just… handcuffs from walmart, that I was playing cops or something. 

“Even now, it feels like- you’re not real, Damian. Nothing is real. I’m still in the volcano prison, and I’m about to die, I’m powerless. I haven’t seen the yellow sun in years, I’m so weak, Damian,” Jon met Damian’s eyes. “So, so weak. And I’m dreaming this up. All of it.

“Or maybe,” Jon continued, filling the gaps of Damian’s silence. “I’m here, with the legion, in the dumb future, and I’m in this room, alone. All alone, just a wall in front of me, the frame on the wall.” 

Damian stopped pacing, he stood right in front of him. “Jon,” Damian reached his hands out, cupped Jon’s face, tilted his head upwards. “I'm real,” He whispered, then he kissed him softly, but with yearn. 

Jon pulled away after a beat too long, he was still just inches from Damian. “Are you sure?” he whispered back, and only by what was left of his super-vision he had heard what Damian answered, right before Jon’s lips crashed against his. 

“Positive.”
