You have to understand. I don't "ship" Harry with the smoker on the balcony, I think whatever they have going on canonically is way funnier and touching than anything anyone could come up with.
There is so much within the dynamic itself. It’s a middle aged man and a younger man who are nothing alike and everything like each other. It’s the smoker being the person that kickstarts Harry’s sexuality journey anew, seeing Harry’s fascination with him and being amused by it because (aside from Harry being probably the first man in a while who’s managed to leave him dumbfounded in a positive way) the smoker *knows* what’s happening in Harry’s mind and as he puts it, it’s beautiful.
Don't get me wrong, the mutual attraction is there. The smoker flirts with Harry every other two lines (girl why the fuck are you flirting with a cop you're insane. I'm obsessed with you) yet makes fun of him in the same breath while Harry is absolutely clueless the whole time because he's too busy staring at his abs. Couldn't come up with anything funnier if I tried.
I love this high drama check, this is exaclty what it feels like to speak to clueless boomers who have no idea what they're talking about. Still, once Harry admits that he might be part of the "underground" as he puts it, the smoker is immediately excited and encourages him to think about it. It's very sweet.
(I know everyone has probably seen this dialogue 100 times by now but I love the phrasing here. literally twink_boutta_pounce.jpeg)
And as a side note I really like this emphaty check in response to Harry's little breakdown after the failed suggestion check the first time you meet him. The smoker like damn he just like me fr.
I don't think more smoker interactions were needed at all or that they would ever talk again post-game but it's interesting to think about what other converations they could have, even just so we could learn a bit more about him. They both have an interest in art. They're both stuck in a place they can't leave if they wanted to and yet find beauty in it, they both have regrets about past relationships. They both find talking with the other a charming experience in a way or another. If I want to be indulgent, they both could benefit from learning about what being gay means for a younger/older generation, especially since they both have such different life experiences with their identities.
It's all fanfic talk, and obviously no cops at pride and so on but their interactions did make me think about community and recognition through the other. A flirt for the sake of a flirt, a “maybe in another lifetime” but this lifetime is good too because they did meet and leave an impression on each other before parting ways. That's *beautiful* too.

one thing i noticed (form personal experience and by observing other artists) is that the longer you draw and create, the more boring it gets to simply replicate references, especially when it comes to characers' fashion choices.
with bnha, i keep mine pretty simple and basic because teens ARE very trend-loyal, but mainly im just lazy lol, but when i AM motivated, i love to think about characters' personal style, what could influence them, but also more trivial things such as budget into account, which is why i love to draw Deku in basic tees or clothes provided by his school (while bakugo gets to wear ed hardy and shoto wears arcteryx). i also love to limit the items like its just more realistic to me when someone as ordinary as deku wears the same 5 crewnecks all the time
which brings me to my actual point, namely that the more frequently you draw, the more you learn to do research andto combine your findings into sth new rather than staying faithful to one reference, and i think that's what makes good art so good, being able to draw inspiratioin from all kinds of niches and creating something that feels very authentic and suspends the spectator's disbelief. sometimes i see art and i know exactly which fashion editorial or which kpop idol was referenced, and I'm not insinuating these are bad things i do that too (less frequently now but i sure did!), my point is it's kind of nice to see how ALL artist start out with rather derivative art but eventually move on to create more authentic art that is less about drawing beautiful and perfect people and more about trying to individualize them and that ALSO means giving them weird clothes, scars, asymmetric eyes, a receding hairline etc. like drawing the same beautiful character 200 times gets so boring and it's just more fun to try and make them a bit more human

What fascinates me about Touya is how deliberate this word choice is in this exact moment.
He didn't really need to say anything. He could, reasonably, have just left; however due to his self-hating nature in this moment he chose to hurt Akito so that to make sure he doesn't try to get him back. But just listen to how he does that and what words he picks. On Touya's part every sentence in that arguement is meticulously put together to hurt Akito the most, and he knows exactly where to hit.
I'm saying this because Touya in general is a very calm and lovable guy. We rarely, if at all, see him genuinely angry with someone other than himself, enough so that he confronts them openly. But I'm convinced if he wanted to, Touya could absolutely decimate anyone in a verbal arguement and leave emotional scars for years to last.

tips on how to draw cogs?
truth be told, I haven't drawn many cogs (mainly just one or two), but I will try to answer this as generally as I can!
This is a long post so I'll post this under the cut.
my biggest tip, as well as for anything, is to break down the shapes. If you try to look at everything at once it becomes really easy to overwhelm yourself. Examples will be drawn sketchy, but hopefully the point gets across.
Our first test subject is mouthpiece which I've never actually drawn before [marketable plushies post doesnt count]. as you can see, I tried to break down a lot of the shapes into much more simpler ones. A lot of cogs seem to share some very obvious shapes, probably because a lot of them are object-related (normal cogs included- first that comes to mind are pencil pushers).
You can do this with really ANY character. Here's our second test subject DOPA for another example.
now these are mainly references from the pictures themselves, which are great as a starting point. my other big tip is just to practice. you don't have to do big full pieces every day, but even just little doodles will help you. i think its very rare for anyone do to super good their first time and this goes with anything, even if you're a highly skilled artist.
you've probably also noticed but I've left out details in my examples, such as the little dots on mouthpiece's eye borders. If you feel that adding all the small details would overcrowd your drawing or just not help it, then I think it's fine to leave them out (of course there are always exceptions to this but as a general rule, its ok).
along with removing details, i think adding details also cannot hurt [to an extent]. if there's something you think would look nice then add it. who cares its your drawing have fun. As an example I'll use prethinker. I always add the little line in the middle, which his model doesn't have. But this is also based off of the 1.3 promotional art as well. Another example could be that when I draw misty, I add a line that connects their eyebrows to their eye. idk just feels more robotic to me and i like it
and again as you notice, my drawings are not model accurate. your style is most likely not going to be exactly like the game and that's completely fine. adjust to your liking, interpret as you will. enjoy the process of creation.
And finally, I'll add my little tip for metal coloring. One thing about metal is that usually the lightest highlight is next to the darkest shadow
The gif goes as base -> shadow 1 -> shadow 2 -> highlight 1 -> highlight 2 -> cleanup + extra
I like to add a few light marks to indicate scratches. although if you wanted more depth, you'd take the darkest shadow and lightest highlight and put them together like this
often the metallic parts are not the focus of my works so I leave it without. As for the random black marks on the lineart, that just also gives it more depth.
And finally, look at other peoples art. Look at the way they draw and pick out bits and pieces of what you like and try to interpret that in your own style.
ok I think that's all. Hopefully this helped!

Having a childhood in Hyrule must be fuckin rough. After the legend of the reincarnating hero spread, there's been traditions that involve kids being forced by their parents to grow up, wear a tunic in the style of the hero, and place the burden of that hero on their shoulders, with most parents deluding themselves into believing their child IS the hero.
If the Linkle story in Hyrule Warriors is canon at all, there's a scene where she mentions to her friends that her grandma told her she was the legendary hero, to which they replied "yeah, everyone's grandmother says that to their grandkids..." which leads me to believe that grandparents probably enforce it as well on their kids' kids.
It's like Rich Family Name syndrome but fucking worse. Holding these kids up to a high standard that only one in 10 billion can ever achieve.

Did you have any scary experiences with bears?? That’s like my biggest park fear
i’m not the best person to ask this because i have, like, a pathological lack of fear around bears as well as ranger training from a young age, but i’ve never had a moment where ordinary bear precautions didn’t seem like enough (which isn’t to say they don’t happen!). my three “scariest” experiences are probably the following:
1. this huge brown bear in denali was right in the middle of the road where we needed to drive to leave the park by 6pm, so eventually we inched our car past him and he RAN full speed after us. we were in a huge ford escalade with all the windows rolled up, so i think we probably would have “won” a fight if it had come down to it but uh…. still a very startling experience, and one where we didn’t really have any other choice but to drive past. i assume if it had been a really dangerous situation and we couldn’t just accelerate fast enough, the rangers probably would have accepted that we were late out of the park beyond our road permit and we could have just driven in the other direction, but luckily this worked out.
2. i don’t have an accompanying photo for the exact moment because i was much more focused on staying still and speaking in a calm voice, but at brooks camp in katmai, my partner and i encountered a huge brown bear on one of the trails that was standing up and scratching its back on the tree ahead of us, completely unbothered and very uninterested in moving along. we had been talking up to that point and so we stopped, moved slightly off the trail, and just kept speaking in our human voices (i tried to explain the bruins 2020 roster to the bear, the bear didn’t particularly care about my opinion on the best defensive pairings) and finally he lumbered away. that was a situation where we had no weapons or bear spray which was a little spooky, but the overall safety of the area was comforting and we did exactly what we’d been told to do and the bear responded accordingly.
3. one time when i was really young, my dad got too close to a black bear in grand teton trying to take a picture and it bluff charged him. that was his own fault and he deserved it lol, but the bear just wanted to eat berries in peace, so it stopped after about 20 feet of running and went back to his berries. since then, my dad has given bears a MUCH wider birth.
