Gang Inflates bed-sharing still on my mind so I wrote a little something

The Young Justice learns about a new experiment going on at Cadmus once again involving cloning and decides to go rescue the clones. They expertly break into the facility avoiding all alarms only to find out that they trigger anyway. Instead of a voice coming on over the intercoms announcing intruders though, it instead announces an escape. What?

The team continues navigating the base until they come across two kids. The older boy can't be older than 8 while the girl being tugged along behind him looks around 5. The boy narrows his eyes and his body tenses up.

"You're definitely not guards. Who are you?" He questions.

It's Superboy who steps up and says "We're the Young Justice. We came here to rescue you."

The boy doesn't seem to believe them but the girl immediately gets excited. Apparently she couldn't wait to meet real life superheroes. Especially Superboy. That means whatever Cadmus was doing with the kids, they'd already implanted knowledge of the outside world in them. That didn't bode well.

The team decides to push that to the back of their minds for now and focus on the mission. They manage to convince the boy (with the help of the girl) to come with them and they get the two out of the facility. Of course this is after they take all the information they can from the servers (Thanks Robin).

As they get both kids to the medical wing on the Watchtower, the boy introduces himself as Danny and the little girl as his sister Ellie. Connor's never seen clones with such a close bond before and he can admit he's a little jealous that he and Match don't have that kind of relationship. Still he's just happy they rescued the two.

Now to find out who they're clones of and what Cadmus wanted to use them for.

(...) Buck’s legs fall from around him. As he tries to move away to get to the trash can, Eddie’s knees buckle, and he grabs Buck’s thigh to not fall over, Buck bursting out laughing.

“You good?” he asks as Eddie rights himself, cheeks burning.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” he laughs as well and, one hand clinging to the kitchen island just in case, he walks around it on shaky knees to the trash can that's under the sink to throw away the used condom.

“Fucked me too good for your old-man knees?” Buck teases, and then laughs again when Eddie shoots him a mock-annoyed look. Eddie will do anything to keep hearing that laughter over and over and over again for the rest of his life.

“We’re basically the same age, old man.” he rolls his eyes, but he’s aware it turned out more fond than annoyed. He just loves this ridiculous man so much.

“Uh, not really, I’m still a couple months younger.” he grins cheekily. Eddie needs to kiss that smile off his face – that is, if he could move, because at this point the floor looks comfortable enough. He leans against the counter next to the sink, facing Buck. “What? No energy to walk back here?”

“You know, that's a lot of talk for the guy who’s been sitting while I did all the work. Twice.” Eddie shakes his head, an amused smile fighting its way onto his face. This is what he loves the most about being with Buck, he thinks. How easy and comfortable it is, familiar teasing, joking, making fun of each other even right after fucking him. They’re them, and he’s not sure why he ever worried about their relationship changing if he ever confessed his feelings. They’re Buck and Eddie, they always will be.

“Fine, I’ll come to you.” Buck sighs dramatically and hops off the counter, immediately stumbling and almost falling over, then tripping over the forgotten fallen stool, gripping the counter to keep his balance. Eddie stifles a laugh. “Shut up.”

[HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY KATIE!! I’m sorry I’m late, between the end of the semester and the conference I’ve been busy as a bee - but this was a wonderful distraction <3 ]

“What’s her name?” asks Scanlan. Even in his arms she is tiny. 

It’s by some fluke that he’s the first of Vox Machina to hold her. Keyleth was, as luck would have it, far from any trees and a fair flight besides. The whole process had Tary a little lightheaded, so he is recovering from a fainting spell in the drawing room. Pike is tidying up after the whole ordeal, and Grog stampeded off to fetch Cassandra and water and snacks in no clear order. 

Vex’s heart beats empty with her daughter - her daughter! - a few feet away, pulling each inhale taut until she can hold her again. It’s a new feeling. It’s terrifying - and altogether exhausting, moreso than the whole birthing business. 

Percy brushes sweaty hair away from her temples for the nth time - neither have the strength to rebraid the tangle to keep it that back. She can’t quite tear her eyes away from their baby to see his face, but from how his voice stumbles over the smallest sounds she knows it’s messy with adoration.

“Do you want to -”

She shakes her head. “Oh no, it’s all you.”

He takes a breath so big she feels it tremble against her back. “It’s Vesper.”

(Vesper is an old Celestial word for the evening star - fitting, then, that the sun had only just closed its eyes before she began to squall.)

Scanlan’s smile widens. He half-nods, or maybe readjusts his angle to get a better look at her. “Oh,” he says, “that’s pretty good.”

Vex lied, earlier. It’s not all Percy. “Vesper Elaina,” she adds, because that’s her mother’s name and she knows Scanlan. Knows how he fights off tears too big for him with an even bigger grin.

“Vesper Elaina de Rolo,” Percy finishes. She suspects he’ll never grow tired of saying it. Doubts she will, either. It feels revitalizing, a healing word, their daughter’s name a spell on them.

Finally, after a long silence, where Vex’s heart beats too loud and her ears prick for even the faintest gurgle of protest and all of her -

Scanlan’s eyes flit their way, coy. He rocks over, all gentleness Vex has never known to him, and makes to return the baby to her parents. Pike is stirring, so who knows how long they have. “Just one middle name?”

“Start simple,” says Percy.

You and gay-jesus-probably have successfully made me question everything with your view that Tears of the Kingdom is imperialist propaganda, so that's been fun.

Anyway, I decided to share this discussion with the Zelda fans on reddit, and perhaps unsurprisingly, a lot of them disagreed. Here is what they said (I'm Alarming_Afternoon44):

So what do you think? Have I and all these other people just been duped by the game's manipulative framing? Or do they actually have a point?

Honestly, as I mentioned in this post, I am not super interested about in-world conversations about who oppresses who, because what can be assessed from the game is super vague and more vibes-based than evidence-based. Within the text, of course that the Good Zonais are good and the Bad Ganondorf is bad! But that's my whole point! The narrative has been deliberately crafted so that the zonais and Rauru (and Hyrule) are as blameless as possible (and it's not doing a great job at it overall to be frank; we would not be having these conversations about how offputting it all feels for a non-zero number of people if it did do a great job). More importantly, I want to focus on what sort of real-life narrative it all parallels. Because people make stories, and people live in the real world.

Not going after everyone's throat here, gamedev is hard and the hydras that are AAA game production do end up doing super weird stuff, especially since the thematic ramifications are absolutely never prioritized (and it's also always the same kind of people who make the final calls and push out what can and can't be talked about also). And as fans, we tend to have trouble stepping outside the lens of lore and take a look at the bigger picture sometimes; not as an attack on any individual part of that decision-making process but to just pause, stop, and question our standards, our priorities and the kind of reality (or skewing of reality) the stories we tell each other reflect.

Again: do we want to take videogames seriously or not? If we do, then we need to accept they are a vehicle for ideology, just like any other artform. And sometimes, you push out questionable ideology, sometimes without meaning to, because you didn't unpack your own biases as you did. And it's even fine to do it, nobody is perfect, a 300+ people team spread over 6 years certainly will not be that. But that it wasn't prioritized is, in my opinion, a problem. As a narrative designer, I want games (at least the narrative side) to be held to a higher standard than this. It's literally my job to work with the industry so it can hold itself to higher standards of quality --so the whole TotK situation is quite frustrating to witness from a very pragmatic, work perspective where I already spend my days trying to convince people that things mean things. I have a vested interest here in not having the companies I work for being given a free pass by gamers to do literally whatever as long as it's fun, especially when we're talking about a billion-dollars company suing its own fans left and right for any perceived slight. Nintendo are not underdogs here. It's fine to point out they cut corners and maybe promoted messy ideologies, voluntarily or not.

So long story short: no I don't believe anyone here has a point in regards to what I think is actually important, which is why these choices were made in the first place. If you look at an imperialist text expecting the text to tell you that it's imperialist instead of recognizing a framing used for propaganda by yourself, you're never gonna find any imperialist text ever, obviously not!! I'm sorry if I sound a little gngngn here, but I don't know why audiences have, at large, this feeling that lore and story beat decisions materialize themselves already formed and without any human bias, meddling, intervention, internal politics or approximations (it seems that people can only conceptualize this part if they have actual names to attach to the story, but without clear authors it's like there are no authors and so no bias, which is... a very strange bias in itself). I can promise you that it does not work that way in practice: every narrative department on every big game is a battlefield --some nicer than others, but all of them very emotionally draining either way.

So yeah, I guess that on these grounds, I disagree with every point raised here. Sorry Reddit :/

But thank you for the ask and sorry if I didn't go more into details as to why. The big Why I Dislike Rauru Post and the Gerudo Post might have some more specific rebuttals, but I am not super interested in debating small detail stuff tbh. I feel like it's no use if the frame of reference isn't being understood in the first place.

bad ending: Sunny and Basil successfully double suicide, they aren’t able to help Kel and Aubrey. Aubrey dies in kel hands, then a crying Kel met with the awakened angry Mari

good ending: Sunny gains hope and forgiveness towards himself, decides to live, and along with Basil in time to stop Aubrey's self-destruction. Interrupted Hero and Mari's confrontations, Sunny talks with Mari. In the end, Mari forgives Hero and flees. Hero thanks the group and Sunny, decides to go on a journey to find Mari, and hopefully make a genuine connection with her again. Sunny and Basil finally left the castle and started traveling around the world.

Being in different worlds was hard. Kazutora loved you, and you loved him, but how the hell we’re y’all supposed to progress? It’s not like you can just walk over there to him.

You had met accidentally; you had found him crying in the human world instead of doing his job by causing trouble. It was supposed to make you mad, that a devil was tampering with the humans, but you also felt bad. No one else was in sight to comfort him, so, you knelt down and hugged him.

He jumped a bit, and scooted back whenever he saw that you were an angel, but he gave in and allowed the hug.

From there, you would sneak out of your duty to see him. It was very risky, but everyone needs company every once in a while.

“…Why did you help me?”

“Because I see the beauty in you, too. You’re a lovely man, of course I had to help you out.”

From there, he not only fell in love with you, but he began to express his love more. When you said that, something in him lifted. Like a burden was taken care of.

You were blunt, also unsure as to how to express love, but so was he. And he made the effort to express his love for you the best he could. And while you also tried, he couldn’t help but to fall for you all over again.
