Something I was thinking about the other day that is both devastating and an apt description of Vat’il’s general personality and how he lives his life

Is that if you were to dangle Tav’ilin and Gortash (some of the only people he has placed any sort of value into) and told him he could only save one of them, his knee jerk reaction would be to save Tav.

That being said, if he has time to think things over and logic it out, he’d save Gortash instead.

jjk s1 and s2 spoilers

caught up to the jjk anime this week and damn, hits hard

Animation is stellar, the characters are really fun, there's themes that really hit me hard and godamn the ending of jjk 0 actually made me cry, like tears were shed. I understood why my brother loved the movie lmao

but rn there's one man on my mind. Gojo fucking satoru

Gojo Satoru is just, wow, what hasn't been said about him? He's certainly a showstopper alright, I know Itadori's the protagonist but my eyes were on Gojo the entire time, season 2 personally was even more exciting with that in mind.

I haven't really had the time to do a deep dive on him, but I do have some thoughts... First, yeah he's hot asf I'll give him that (those eyes of his are on my mind and they won't leave me alone, also props to the english dub for the absolutely feral lines)

but the progression of him as a person is also really fun to see. I'm especially interested in him maturing from this arrogant and individualistic person at the beginning of season 2 to... well, still being that but also becoming a mentor to other people.

Like, that's such a huge step for me because contrary to what his pride tells him, he's come to realize he can't do it alone (I mean, he can at the moment but it's more realistic to try and personally raise these youth with potential so that they may bring about a powerful new generation)

The line about education really hit me and I kept thinking about it these last couple of days. He wants to bring change, but if he's the only one humanity has to rely on, he'll run himself ragged. And so, he takes the time and patience to grow these little seedlings, watch them get more powerful but also watch as they may fail along the journey. Even though he's become a teacher, he's not soft on them at all. It's a fact that if they're unable to keep up with him, they will get left behind. Whether that be in skill, or death.

Other than to raise more powerful sorcerers, I can't help but feel this also comes from a place of loneliness, because Geto left him.

I wonder, how much it will hurt to see his students fall? Because although they are improving at a fast rate, can they really keep up with The Gojo Satoru? Or will they against all odds, with his full support, be able to carry on when he's gone? Despite the uncertainty, he continues to teach.

Though the goal is daunting, seeing him wake up to his students and smiling brought such a warm feeling to my chest, it was so sweet.

Also love how unhinged he can get, like characters who do the manic smile thing never ceases to make me giggle excitedly (Nobara and Fushiguro also knocked it out of the park in that aspect, extremely hyped when they went completely off the hinge and kicked ass).

However, there's one scene that absolutely left me in awe. A beautiful mixture of music and imagery that sent shivers up my body every time I watch it. A scene in which he's shown being a mixture of unhinged, yet so at "peace". The juxtaposition is absolutely beautiful to see.

Fighting against toji, where he was high off his epiphany, he had an inner monologue so quiet, so relaxed and detached from how he usually is, coupled with the same piano tune that accompanied the scenes with him, Riko and Geto in the background. My breath was taken away, my eyes were glued to the screen in awe as the music crescendo-ed, and I couldn't help but think "he's beautiful" splattered in blood, bathed in sunlight and eyes glowing with the most vibrant blue.

After the dust had settled, the three of them lost something that day. Riko lost her life, Gojo started to lose his best friend, and Geto started to lose his moral compass and ideals.

The piano music was called "一緒なら" or "If I am with you/together". I wonder why? Perhaps the first time, it was from Riko's POV, as she, Gojo, Geto and Kuroi were sightseeing for the very last time.

The second time, although Gojo seemed detached from Riko's death, perhaps he genuinely cared for her, so much that he'd mourn in his own way.

The arc started with Gojo carrying Riko in his arms

The arc ended with Gojo holding Riko's dead body as the crowd celebrated her death.

He started to lose it, even asking Geto if he should kill all of them. Funny how the tables have turned.

it feels odd to draw cellbit without the white streak. this isn’t very au but i was definitely thinking of the ordem au. so the cellbit of relative and a bagi (not of relative, or she’d obviously be more disheveled and bandaged, but i was trying to feel it out)

it didn’t come out clearly in this, but i felt like giving this bagi previously bleached hair, now partially grown out so she has long light tips to her brown hair.

anyway. please accept this drawing in trade for a few paragraphs on the au perhaps? some bit of it that’s particularly stuck in your head. i want to know more

the enigma twins!! love them, ty for the sketches <33 the bleached-to-grown-out is vvv inspired. Bagi has been part of the Order for mmm a certain amount of months. definitely not a year yet. in any case, neglecting upkeep on her hairstyle due to stress about you know, helping protect reality, is definitely feasible for her character. might fold that in there as a canon characteristic tbh.

ok, so now the au. right now for characters with official major roles, we have: Bagi, Cellbit, Felps, Forever, Pac, Mike, Phil, Missa, and Fit! we also have some kids, too: Richas, Chayanne, Tallulah, Ramon.

so the big baddie of the "main plot" is the Ender King, an entity from the Other Side seeking to cross over and take control of our world because, you know, greedy guy. Phil and Fit are veteran members of the Order who were part of the team that dealt with the Ender King last time he tried to cross over. they succeeded in stopping him, but not without the rest of their team being killed and Missa (Phil's partner, non-Order) being cursed and scarred. Phil, after doing a lot fruitless research on the Ender King to see if the stuff that happened to Missa could be reversed, decided to retire from the Order---not something that is easy to do, but he managed it---while Fit stuck around to help train new recruits and assist on occasional missions.

but then Fit starts to see signs in recent missions that the Ender King is trying to come back via the work of some very committed esoterroristic cults. so, after putting it off as much as he can, he decides he has no choice but to call Phil (experienced, and the leading expert on the Ender King's magic that's currently alive) to ask if he'll lend them a hand. Phil's response is a firm but burdened yes.

Cellbit, meanwhile, is you more-or-less average guy living with his four other friends and raising a kid they've acquired. after discovering that strange, vanished Reddit post, Cellbit continues to do casual "hobby research" into folkloric and paranormal conspiracies found online, despite Bagi's "nonbeliever" attitude and his family's light-hearted teasing.

surprisingly, this isn't what drags Cellbit into the paranormal---the paranormal comes for his family before he can even stick his nose too deep when Felps disappears on his way to work one morning. Cellbit strikes out on a solo investigation, of course, but once he starts to consider that there might actually be a paranormal angle to this, he begins to cross paths with Phil, and thus, Fit and Bagi too. and so, realizing that Felps' disappearance is somehow linked to the Ender King's return, the four of them team up to stop the esoterroristic cults in the city from bringing a powerful, wrathful entity from the Other Side to Quesadilla's doorstep.

vee helped me realize chiyo does stuff quite often for the sake of other people's happiness and i :' )) am a mess :' )) she doesn't want to join the newspaper club after her supernatural club disbands, but she joins bc her parents want her to. she initially chooses to be a teacher bc it's the safer option, but also bc it'll make her mom happy since she's a teacher. she joins some clubs in college bc it'll make her parents worry less if she's getting out of her dorm; she tries to reach out to her classmates bc if she does, her parents won't worry so much if she's got friends.

now, some of these things are good for her, but her motivation is still the same: her parents' peace of mind.

even in daily life, chiyo will often go with the flow of her friends' choices. they wanna go drinking even though it's 10 o'clock and she wants to go home and watch a movie till she passes out? she'll still join them, even if it's for a little while, even if she puts up a fuss at first. the truth of the matter is that chiyo prioritizes the happiness and comfort of those around her.

i mean!! even her own personality changes depending on the person she's talking to!! bc if you're shy, she wants you to feel comfortable. if you're loud and outgoing, she doesn't want you to feel uncomfortable that she's quiet. it's fine if she's uncomfortable and overthinking her actions so long as others feel fine.

why does she do this?? bc for so long, she caused her parents trouble. she caused her classmates trouble. her parents' love is unconditional, but it's undeniable the effect that being bullied and requiring so much?? extra care took upon her self worth. in her mind, she wasn't worth the trouble to her classmates if it meant being bullied by association. now she's worried she'll cause trouble again, and she won't be worth it. she'll simultaneously be too much and too little and lose the people she cares about. and i'm absolutely sobbing HELP

Some Batman: Telltale thoughts

[this is a Batman Telltale critical post, ye be warned.]

So. There are perhaps no words in the english language to describe with how stupid i feel right now.

I started Telltale Batman because i thought that it's one of the more distinct unconventional Batman narratives that would let you have a more interesting, complex and nuanced relationship between Bruce and Joker— the game even lets you bring all of Bruce's sincere hypocrisy and sentimental selfishness to the surface and have him admit that yes, he can fight the rogues gallery because it takes a madman to know a madman; to love a madman. For a moment i geniunely thought that i can escape the everpresent shadow of DC hays code in the freakshow funhouse that is Batman comics, i thought Telltale had done something different.

But telltale's approach to The Enemy Within is so flaky and flimsy and timid at best— such noncommittal twist on themes of pain and grief. They take on a hefty plotline, "what does it take to actually fight through evil and be surrounded by it? How long does it take before your resolve and your selfhood cracks? When you lose the mask, which one did you truly lose— The ideal persona, the superhero, the crusader, or the person underneath, the casket that holds all your humanity and your heart and your hopes? How long can you stare onto the abyss before it stares onto you?" It's indeed a very Nietzsche approach to Batman— except that a good Nietzsche narrative takes a lot of intentional plot points and honesty of thought and of heart. And Telltale doesn't commit, not to Bruce's characterization, and not to any other character, and definitely not to Joker's journey in any variation of it. The existence of the Vigilante route is useless on every front; Joker is going to turn into a villain anyway, just with a different hello kitty eyeshadow palette and an extra bland consolation lollipop. No good choice Bruce makes on Joker's behalf affects anything whatsoever, and i particularly love the "community and friendship and sympathy do not help the mentally ill and all that ever works is punishment and shock therapy and confinement and loneliness" message the vigillante route puts on the table, charming charming status quo commandments from DC as always.

Telltale Batman could only be revolutionary if it had dared to break comic convention and let the vigillante route play out like Selina and Bruce's relationship always does; very grey morality, irrational, full of tension and trust, unstable, intriguing, inexcusable, irreversible, unavoidable and heartfelt, human. But we can't have nice things in batmanverse, so both Joker routes run on stuck gears and topple and fall into a predictable narrative hole that neither Bruce nor Joker can claim out of.

And on the predictable front? this story is too lukewarm to be a good time for me personally. When you get 84 Batman comics per minute every other Tuesday, all ending the same way no matter whatever the fickity happens inbetween, you have to pull no punches. This is my 53368532th Batman-with-tragic-batjokes-implications read of the week, say something new or forever hold your blue-balling silence, i dont care.
