Junefae 2018, Day 7 - Unsuccessful Pig Fae

Not every fae is a success.  On Day 7 of Junefae, the Unsuccessful Pig Fae is struggling to achieve ethereal charm. 

Alas, a swinish heritage and the random results of its faeriscites conspire against it. It is too big to be a house elf, and too clumsy to dance with the fairies.  Perhaps it will find a nice bridge to live under instead...

"Old Threadneedle" is the last of this year's Junefae Friday Fairy Fiction posts, a story about the fae of my Other Side of the Wood world.  It's a glimpse into the world where my Junefae faeries live and work and eventually explode in a golden glittering cloud.  It's also a look at how the inhabitants of the Other Side of the Wood deal with that.

Day 3 of Junefae - A Mystery Fae  I have no idea what this little fae evolved from.  A bird? A fox? Maybe a squirrel?  We could ask him when he starts talking, but the fae don’t remember much from before they changed.  We may never know. In this Junefae challenge I'm focusing on the faeries of my own baby Otherwhere, the world of the Other Side of the Wood.  I’ll write a few quick words about each fairy as I post it. JuneFae 2017 Day 2 - Lost Changeling Fae

The lost changeling fae is waiting for someone to give it a home.  The changelings that actually looked human were whisked off to fill empty cradles, but this one has been left behind in the fallen leaves as the evening grows colder and darker.  Surely someone has a place for the little fellow!  Will it be you…? What could go wrong…?

Nurse Log Troll (detail), day 8 of #junefae. Maybe not a traditional faerie but certainly a fey creature of sorts, the Nurse Log Troll is a troll crumbling in its old age but still useful as a caregiver for infant trolls and troll wives.  It is too old for lurking under bridges, stealing cows or challenging the youngest of three brothers on his way to seek his fortune.  Perhaps the Nurse Log Troll is more useful in its decline than any of these things....  There’s a shot of the whole piece back at my site, here.
