Attack on Titan: The Final Chapter
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2023
Attack on Titan: The Final Chapter (2023, Japan)
Directors: Yuichiro Hayashi & Tokio Igarashi
Writer: Hiroshi Seko (based on the manga by Hajime Isayama)
Mini-review:
God, I don't even know how to begin this review. Attack on Titan has been part of my life for so long, and I find it hard to accept that it's finally over. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this final episode. It gave us show-stopping action, it gave us drama, it gave us a powerful anti-war message. Like this show has always done. In some ways, the mixture of cynicism and hopefulness that permeates this final act reminds me of Evangelion, and I mean that in the best possible way. Tbh, now that I've finally seen it, I can't understand why people have hated it so much ever since it was first published. How else could it have ended, after all the twists and turns the story took? I think Isayama did the best he could, and MAPPA took things to the next level with some of the best animation they've ever produced. This final chapter gave me a lot of food for thought, and I'm pretty sure it will stay in my mind for a long time, just like this world and its characters.

Revolutionary Girl Utena Storyboards! Now on the Internet Archive!!
Hi! Vanna here! Did you know we have scanned copies of the production storyboards for a whole SEVEN out of 39 episodes of Utena? Not bad, I think!!! Most were donated kindly by cscratch, with me buying a couple myself.
I have uploaded all seven as PDFs to the Internet Archive, and you can grab them here. For now, a gallery tour!!! PART 1!
Episode 3: On the Night of the Ball, storyboarded by Kazuhisa Takenouchi
Known largely for his work on Dragonball, this is the only time Takenouchi works on Revolutionary Girl Utena. Episode 3 is notoriously one of the 'b-side' episodes in terms of animation quality, and was probably done out of house so to speak. It does include the banked opening fairy tale, which is incredible to see, as well as a lot of crossed out shots and dialogue. Lots to unpack on that.
Episode 6: Nanami-sama, Take Care!, storyboarded by Jun Matsumoto
Matsumoto will go on to storyboard several episodes, especially Nanami ones! The storyboard is titled episode 8, because these two episodes' releases were switched due to the speedier production of this episode. Originally, the curry episode was episode 6, with this being part of, starting with 8, an increasing focus on Touga and the people surrounding him and how they view him. I can definitely see how the flow would have been incredible if preserved this way, alas!! His storyboards are very clean, and tight. They appear to need little revision.
Episode 9, The Castle Said to Hold Eternity, storyboarded by Juugo Kazeyama, an alias of Takuya Igarashi
Kazeyama often works with Yoji Enokido on projects, and will continue to work on Utena throughout its run, and will even write episode 19, Song of the Fallen Kingdom. We have an interview with him that was published in The Art of Utena artbook translated to English, even! Check it out! We have him to thank for the tea on Akio Ohtori's intended age. ;D
Cool! I hope you liked! I ran out of time before break is over though, so you can catch the rest of our storyboards next time, or check them out yourself, again, either via the gallery, or the IA!

Actor Akira Nakao died on May 16 at the age of 81. He appeared in six Godzilla films, first as the bellicose Colonel Takaaki Aso in the final three Heisei entries, then Prime Minister Hayato Igarashi in the Kiryu duology, and finally the original Gotengo commander in Godzilla Final Wars. (That turned out to be a fitting sendoff - after years of sitting in meetings and control rooms, he got to take on Godzilla in the field.) He served the same role as Jun Tazaki in the 60s Toho kaiju films: an instantly recognizable authority figure. May he rest in peace.

BSD Interviews Masterlist
A new masterlist by yours truly. There's so many interviews out there that I wouldn't dare to aspire to include them all; but since I've been stumbling across a lot of Asagiri interviews after they attended Anime Expo this year, I wanted to at least have one place where I can keep track of the ones I see. If you know any interview I failed to include, please let me know!!
The dates reported here refer to the date the interview was published, and not when it was taken; even then, please take them with a grain of salt. Some rows feature multiple links to dislocated translations of the same interview, so be sure to hover over all the text so you don't miss any piece. Finally, sorry if the list results a little bulky at times, I couldn't seem to come up with a better way to format it.

Prior to her appearance on IGNITE!, VIOLET debuted twice. Her first group lasted nine months. Her second group lasted three—in hindsight, that one might have been a scam. Lightspeed will last eleven. It seems to be a pattern with her. She was first interested in becoming an idol at the age of thirteen. Highly inspired by second generation girl groups like SNSD and T-ara, she began to learn how to sing and dance. At seventeen, Violet moved to South Korea to pursue her dream, against her parents’ wishes. She has not spoken to them in eight years.
IGNITE! was truly her last chance. After nearly a decade of trying and failing to be an idol, she was almost ready to call it quits. That was when Violet learned of the show from her older sister. After breezing through the audition and early stages of the show, her professionalism and obvious desperation helped her secure second place, and a spot in Lightspeed.
KNOWN FOR: Saying “I don’t know any boy groups except BTS and EXO” (as a joke?). Being the only person to give a thank you speech in Korean. Hitting an extremely high whistle note while watching a video of her first group’s debut stage.
STAGE NAME : Violet
FULL NAME : Violet Quyên Lâm
BIRTHDAY : June 30, 1997
BIRTHPLACE : Calgary, Alberta, Canada
HOMETOWN : Calgary, Alberta, Canada
ETHNICITY : Vietnamese
NATIONALITY : Canadian
FACE CLAIM : Jun Vũ
ASH was born Jang Dohyun in Seoul, South Korea, before moving to the US to live with the rest of his extended family when he was less than a year old. He picked the name Ash for himself when he started going to school and none of his teachers could pronounce his name. As a teenager, the rise of the Hallyu wave in the West led to his interest in kpop and kdramas, and became his way of reconnecting with the country he was born in. As a college student, he took this one step further with his participation in UCLA’s kpop cover dance team, where he met Tyler.
While on IGNITE!, his rank rose steadily throughout the second half of the show. Although a good enough performer, he was seen more as comic relief and a moodmaker than a serious contender for the winning group. He was also popular for his constant promotion of his family’s Koreatown bakery instead of himself. In the finale, his rank skyrocketed from seventh to second, surprising Ash most of all. He is Lightspeed’s leader in name and not much else.
KNOWN FOR: Promoting his family’s bakery more than himself. Re-editing his profile pictures and posting them to his Instagram after the show. Writing “fre sha vaca do” as his catchphrase.
STAGE NAME : Ash
FULL NAME : Dohyun Jang
BIRTHDAY : July 9, 1999
BIRTHPLACE : Seoul, South Korea
HOMETOWN : Los Angeles, California, USA
ETHNICITY : Korean
NATIONALITY : American
FACE CLAIM : Serim Park
TW: Death
TYLER was the only survivor of the major car accident that killed his parents and older brother. At the age of two, he spent a few months as a ward of the state of Illinois before being adopted by an older childless white couple. He spent most of his life on the family farm, before jumping ship to Los Angeles for college, where he met Ash on the UCLA kpop cover dance team.
In his first semester of grad school—because what else is he doing with his bachelor’s degree in psychobiology?—he auditioned for IGNITE!, seeing it as another opportunity to avoid returning to the farm. In hindsight, it was an extremely good decision, even if all of his embarrassing stan Twitter tweets were dragged into the limelight. As a competitor, Tyler was popular for his confidence and the dance skills to back up whatever grandstanding statements he decided to make.
KNOWN FOR: Freestyling his entire initial audition. Somehow continuing to tweet while filming IGNITE! Dapping up Ash every episode.
STAGE NAME : Tyler
BIRTH NAME : Tyler Ryuji Igarashi
FULL NAME : Tyler Wilfred Ryuji Lewis
BIRTHDAY : March 3, 2000
BIRTHPLACE : Chicago, Illinois, USA
HOMETOWN : Decatur, Illinois, USA
ETHNICITY : Japanese
NATIONALITY : American
FACE CLAIM : Noa Kazama
Born to second generation Korean Americans, CONSTANCE is Lightspeed’s most prominent vocalist. She was musically inclined from an early age, able to pick up and mimic melodies by ear. By the time she was fourteen, she was proficient in multiple instruments, having spent all of her afternoons at local music shops and figuring them out for herself. Her prodigal music run came to an end when she auditioned for Julliard and didn’t get in. She settled for pursuing her secondary interest of mechanical engineering instead.
Being a kpop idol was never a possibility to her. Her grandparents left Korea in the aftermath of the Korean War—why would she go back? Yet when IGNITE! announced auditions in New York City, Constance decided she could give it a try. She was indisputably one of the best singers on the show, moving the judges to tears in her final performance. She placed third at the show’s conclusion.
KNOWN FOR: Bringing an entire suitcase of snacks. Smiling like The Almighty Loaf. Pointing out the film crew’s OSHA violations.
STAGE NAME : Constance
FULL NAME : Constance Bomi Im
BIRTHDAY : January 28, 2001
BIRTHPLACE : Newark, New Jersey, USA
HOMETOWN : Newark, New Jersey, USA
ETHNICITY : Korean
NATIONALITY : American
FACE CLAIM : Winter / Minjeong Kim
MIA’S career started at the young age of six with a small background role in a children’s TV show. Pushed to perform by her mother (still reeling from her failure to be a famous actress), she took dance lessons—ballet, tap, jazz—and acting lessons and modeling lessons. As a child and a teenager, she had two big breaks: a starring role in a spinoff of a popular kids’ show, and a brief stint as a kpop trainee under JYP Entertainment. Her six months there were the greatest time of her life, so when her mother suggested she should audition for IGNITE!, she jumped at the chance.
Her previous experience was evident from the moment she stepped on stage. She never ranked below third, was center for most of her performances, and seemed to be an endless source of memorable and iconic performance clips. It came as no surprise that she placed first among the female contestants in IGNITE!’s finale.
KNOWN FOR: Carrying her team in almost every performance. Struggling to make a heart in the theme song. Reenacting an orange juice commercial she did when she was seven.
STAGE NAME : Mia
FULL NAME : Mia Odette Kim-Anderson
BIRTHDAY : June 4, 2002
BIRTHPLACE : Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
HOMETOWN : Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
ETHNICITY : Caucasian, Korean
NATIONALITY : Australian
FACE CLAIM : Lily Jin Morrow
EV, born Everett Lam Chun-sheng in Hong Kong, China, is the youngest member of Lightspeed. His parents divorced when he was six years old, leading to his subsequent move to Leeds, England with his mother and the changing and reordering of his names. His interest in music was fostered by his stepfather, a symphony musician, as a way for the two of them to connect. It worked—he took music as his fourth A-level, alongside maths, history, and English literature.
While attending university, he was met with the opportunity to participate in IGNITE! As a competitor, Ev was known mostly for his quiet disposition and peacemaking abilities. He acknowledged his lack of skill in the beginning, and improved greatly throughout the show’s run. He placed third.
KNOWN FOR: Recreating Hyungwon’s Starbucks meme with a Redbull during a practice session. Reciting Jacques’s “All the world’s a stage” monologue from As You Like It in his audition. Doing the exact same stiff ending fairy pose after every performance.
STAGE NAME : Ev
BIRTH NAME : Everett Lam Chun-sheng

I need a place to yap ab my demon slayer ocs and I've chosen tumblr as my victim so get ready
Say hello to Kei Igarashi (born Kei Imamura) and Jun Igarashi. I'm gonna give a brief over view of their backstories as well as a few fun facts.
╔══ஓ๑♡๑ஓ══╗
Without spoiling too much, this story begins with Kei being adopted by her aunt when she was an infant. Unfortunately, Keis aunt was alone in raising her as her husband was murdered shortly beforehand. Her and Kei lived together on a rice farm in peace, where Kei displayed signs of having an unusually high Iq and agility. One evening Kei's mother (her aunt) left her to watch the farmhouse while she investigated claims of demons living on their farm in secret. Unfortunately for Kei this would be the last time she sees her mother.
Kei spent several days attempting to maintain the farm in vain as she's only 7 years old at this time. One night Kei was woken up to a demon standing over her, watching her sleep. After a short scuffle, Kei ended up burning her home to the ground but ultimately overpowered by the demon. Moments before she was consumed, she was saved by a mysterious man with a sword.
This man was Tarō Igarashi, a demon slayer. Out of pity Tarō took Kei to his home, the Igarashi mansion where she met his wife and child, Momoe and Jun. Little did the Igarashi family know, Kei was carrying a disease that cause Momoe to fall ill. Shortly after Kei's arrival, Momoe succumbed to her illness and passed.
Tarō was so overcome with grief and fury that he threw Kei out of the mansion die in the wild. Or at least that's how it should have gone if he hadn't found Kei in the courtyard the next day gripping onto a hairpin so hard her hands began dripping blood. Kei explained that she dropped the hairpin after Tarō kicked her out and she snuck back in to get it. Tarō was so impressed with Kei breaking into their impenetrable mansion that he decided not only to let her stay, but that he was going to train her to become a demon slayer along with Jun.
╚══ஓ๑♡๑ஓ══╝
So if you didn't guess already, Kei is going to be my main focus of the story. Dont worry though I will give my boy Jun some love I just need to flesh out his character more.
.⋅ ۵♡۵ ⋅. .⋅ ۵♡۵ ⋅.
SO! FACTS TIME(^.^)
Since Jun and Kei were taught by Tarō, they both use smoke breathing which derives from Flame breathing. However, both of them have very different fighting styles and utilize their breathing forms differently
Jun is transgender (ftm) and bisexual w a male preference. Kei is a lesbian (I'm projecting)
Both Jun and Kei fight w 2 weapons. Kei uses one normal sized sword and one that is almost sawed in half(its closer in size to a dagger). Jun fights w 2 swords but they can be combined to form one large one. No I cannot draw so I can't provide an example.
My story takes place during the events of the demon slayer anime but they won't have much interactions w Tanjiro (as of right now)
Jun is 27 years old during at this point in the story and Kei is 25
Jun and Kei will be able to speak on this page! Ik there's not a lot of ppl following me but if you ask a question directed to either of them, they will answer in character!
Kei will always write in Orange and sign off with a♡. Jun will write in blue and sign off with☆.
Dont be afraid we won't bite!
Speak for yourself.
Well I won't bite..
DAMN this post was longer than I thought it'd be sorry there's so much. Unfortunately this only scrapes the surface of what I have in store for them but luckily for everyone I'm inconsistent and will probably write their lore in lil drabbles.

Attack On Titan (Final Season, Part 3.1)

TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2023
Attack on Titan (Final Season, Part 3.1, 2023, Japan)
Directors: Yuichiro Hayashi, Ryota Aikei & Tokio Igarashi
Writer: Hiroshi Seko
Mini-review:
Let me start this review by saying they really should not have split the final episode in two. It just feels like the build up keeps coming and coming, and then it cuts off right in the middle, leaving the viewer deflated. It would have made so much more sense to make the final part of the story as a two hour movie.
Anyway, it's been almost 10 years (💀) since I first started this show and I'm actually pretty excited to find out how it ends, even though that won't happen until this fall. I know this show has been crazy controversial for a long a time, but it keeps delivering its clearly anti-war message in a way that I find incredibly powerful. I must admit I got a bit lost during some of the more expository scenes (I guess I'll have to rewatch the whole show before the final final episode airs), but there were also some showstopping sequences that left me almost speechless. Let's hope the last episode lives up to all the hype.
