Mini-review:

Dandadan was one of my most awaited animes of the year, and it did not disappoint. For starters, I wholly vibed with its deranged sense of humor. Sure, there are a lot of potty jokes and stuff like that, but it's all handled in a unhinged way that makes the show so, so fun. Also, as a huge fan of everything related to both aliens and ghosts, the central concept of the story is basically tailor-made for me. All the creature designs are stunning and terrifying in equal measure, and I can't wait to see more of them in the future. Science Saru's action scenes are as gorgeously animated as expected, even if the coloring in some of the more 'normal' scenes fell somewhat flat. Oh, and Kensuke Ushio's score is seriously beautiful, too. Anyway, I'm very glad we won't have to wait much for season two.

Mini-review:

The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen may not be perfect, but it definitely helped me end this year with a bang. The best thing about this batch of episodes is pretty clear: we got some of the best fights scenes I've ever seen in a TV anime. I spent most of the time staring at the screen in awe. I know the animators went through hell while making this season, so I want to take a moment to thank them all for their incredible work (and let's hope Mappa gives them more breathing room from now on). That being said, story-wise it was a flawed season. The first arc was thoroughly outstanding, but the second one was rather messy. There was just so much stuff going on at the same time, and you could almost see the writing buckling under the weight of it all. On top of that, the constant exposition and the characters' explanations about every single thing that happened were so distracting. Sometimes it feels like the show thinks its audience is stupid. Anyway, I did like this season a lot, and it's clear that few animes do action and fights like Jujutsu Kaisen. The final twists also set up a lot of exciting possibilities, so I'll be looking forward to the next season.
