“Who’s your celebrity crush?” She got up with a smile super excited to talk about you.

“It’s that one girl, she goes to umich and she does like day in the life and like get ready with me’s. I forgot her name!”

The comments immediately knew who she was talking about.

“I think Iowa and I heard that they’re good so this will be fun.” They responded.

While you guys were getting snacks the Iowa team were coming into the locker room. While they were walking Kate saw you at the vending machine and freaked out.

“Jada! Jada! Look who’s at the vending machine!” She looked and started going crazy with Kate. Gabbie saw this and just had to ask. “Why are yall freaking out?” They just pointed to the vending machine.

“Oh my god! Is that N/n L/n?!” They nodded out of excitement.

“Kate get her number!” Jada exclaimed. Kate looked at her with wide eyes. “What! No!”

“Why not? Just go!” She pushed Kate and you saw her, and it looked like she tripped so you went up to her.

“Oh my god! Are you okay?” She looked up and widened her eyes. “Yea yea I’m fine thanks for asking.” You looked at her and your jaw actually dropped. Her height alone was very attractive and her eyes oh my. "Oh ok, wait are you on Iowa?"

"Uh yea I was just going to the locker room."

"Oh well I'm Y/n or N/n whatever you feel comfortable with."

"I'm Kate." She smiled and turned to Jada; Jada mouthed "get her number now!" She turned back to you. "Do you think I can get your number?" You raised your eyebrows, and you looked shocked. "If you're not into girls its fine I'll just go-."

"No, it's fine and yea you can get my number." You gave it to her and went back to your friend who was recording the whole thing. Jada was jumping up and down out of excitement when Kate came back.

After the game you started editing your video and left in your interaction with Kate and the comments went crazy.

You and Kate haven't seen each other in three months. Since it was winter it was very hard to find a flight that wasn't getting delayed or cancelled but luckily you found one and are on your way to Iowa now.

You told Kate that there was a big snowstorm coming and you couldn't come until next week. That was obviously a lie. You were informed by Caitlin that there was a team dinner tonight and you should surprise her there. Right now, you are vlogging your trip to Iowa and now in a hotel room with Caitlin. "Alright guys I'm in Iowa right now with Cait." "Hey everybody!" She yelled. "But we are getting ready for the team dinner and surprise Kate. So, this will cut to when we're ready."

"Hey guys so Y/n is still not ready so I will be occupying you guys." Cait said while setting up the camera. Before she can you came in. "Oh my god she's here guys."

"I did not take that long!" Cait just rolled her eyes. You picked up the camera. "Ok so we are going to show our outfits even though they're basic black dresses." Then took the camera to show you and you did the same thing you both laughed, and it cut to you hiding in the bathroom of the restaurant.

After an hour passed Jada knocked on the stall and you rushed out and Jada was holding your camera. "Is it recording?" You shook your head and turned it on. "She was literally talking about you the whole dinner." You laughed. "No really, she was like 'I miss N/n' 'I'm seeing her next week, but I wanted to see her today.' You took the camera from Jada.

"No, she actually does guys." You and Jada laughed.

The team was getting ready to leave when Coach said they're going to take a picture. Lisa was in on it, and she saw you and asked to take a picture. "Hey, can you take a picture of us?" She says smiling. "Yea of course." Kate recognized your voice but didn't turn around because you're not here anyway. You took her phone to take the picture and Kate's jaw dropped and her eyes widened. You took the picture. "We should retake it because Kate's face ruins the photo." You said laughing. She ran up to hug you. "What about the snowstorm?"

“I actually got you a gift though.” She took her jersey and some tickets out of her bag. “There’s three if you want to invite your parents or friends.” You teared up. “Thank you Kate.” You give her a kiss. She ended the video and you guys hung out before you guys went to the game she left a little earlier but you were still there.

Jack wasn’t even really paying attention when it happened.

He was in the bathroom, getting ready for the blueberry picking excursion Bitty organized each summer, clad in shorts and an old Samwell T-shirt, old sneakers and the calf-high socks Bitty always laughed at.

Bitty was next to him at the vanity, adding a layer of sunscreen to the moisturizer that was part of his daily facial skin care routine.

“You have to moisturize, Jack,” Bitty was insisting. Again. Like every day when they ended up getting ready in the bathroom at the same time.

“What are you worried about?” Jack said. “Bits, you’re 25.”

“And I make my living in front of the public,” Bitty said. “You can’t tell me your mother didn’t tell you about proper skin care. And I might not have lines yet, but now is the time. I shudder to think of my childhood.”

“Uh-huh,” Jack said, spreading shaving gel over the lower half of his face.

“How much time I spent outside in the summer,” Bitty went on. “Helping MooMaw in the garden, mowing the lawn, hanging out at the lake, even just wandering, staying out of everyone’s way …”

Bitty trailed off.

“And did I ever even wear a hat? No, I did not,” Bitty said, picking up the wide-brimmed straw hat he’d bought just for the occasion from the counter next to him and settling it on his head. “So now I have to be extra careful.”

“See, that’s the difference,” Jack said, pulling the razor up against the grain of his beard. “I make my living on the ice, wearing a helmet, and no one cares what I look like. Maybe you should have thought more about a hockey career, bud.”

“Hush, you,” Bitty said. “We both know that was never in the cards for me.”

Jack hummed noncommittally. Bitty still didn’t realize how good he’d been, but Jack had given up trying to convince him. Three years out of college, Bitty was something of a media personality, with hundreds of thousand of followers on YouTube and more on TikTok, and he’d started doing cooking segments on a local morning show.

“Almost done?” Bitty asked, almost vibrating with excitement. He loved this outing, one that had started with whatever members of the Samwell team were in New England in July the first summer Bitty spent with Jack.

Now there were nearly three dozen people meeting them at the blueberry farm: the Samwell guys, of course, but also several Falconers and their families, plus friends Jack and Bitty (mostly Bitty) had made in Providence.

The little kids would pick a pint or two and head to the playground with their parents; the adults without kids would invariably end up with more than they could use, and Bitty — Bitty would pick gallons on his own, and take any excess from the others. Those berries would turn into jam, into cobblers and crumbles, and into pies. Some would be frozen and kept for winter. Some would become sauce to be served over ice cream. Sometimes it would be served over ice cream that was served over blueberry pie. That was Tater’s favorite dessert.

“Almost,” Jack said, rinsing his face and reaching for a towel.

“Here,” Bitty said, holding out the tube of sunscreen. “I got you a hat too. Wait — you missed a spot.”

Jack leaned close to the mirror to examine the patch of skin in front of his ear that Bitty was pointing to. 

Yeah, there was a little stubble. He reached for the shaving gel again but something silver caught his eye as he turned. What?

“Bits?” Jack said. “Look.”

“Look at what, sweet pea?” Bitty said, barely raising his eyes from his phone, where he was no doubt coordinating last-minute logistics.

“Here,” Jack said, turning that side of his face towards Bitty and pointing. “A gray hair.”

Bitty glanced up and then back down to his phone.

“Yes?” he said. “You just noticed? It’s been there a few weeks at least.”

“No,” Jack said. “I would have noticed.”

“I thought you had,” Bitty said. “I figured you just didn’t care. Like about sunscreen.”

“I don’t,” Jack said, but that wasn’t completely true. “I’m just surprised. I’m only 30.”

Bitty shrugged. 

“Some people start going gray in their 20s,” he said. “When did your folks start going gray?”

“I don’t know about Maman,” Jack mused. “She always colored her hair, as long as I can remember. And Papa still doesn’t have gray hair.”

“Finish shaving,” Bitty said, impatient to get out of the house. 

When Jack picked up the gel again, Bitty said, “And you have to know that your dad colors his hair, too. Haven’t you noticed how sometimes it suddenly looks darker?”

“No?” Jack said, before swiping off the remaining stubble with the razor.

“Take my word for it,” Bitty said. “He does.”

“Do you think I should –”

“Color your hair? Because if you’re worried about one silver strand —”

“I’m not worried,” Jack protested. “But if I got one, I’m going to get more, right?”

“I guess,” Bitty said. “But you wear a helmet to play, right? Your hair doesn’t matter.”

Bitty grinned to show he was kidding.

“Seriously,” he said when Jack grimaced. “I think you’d be very handsome with some graying at the temples. But as long as it’s just one —”

Bitty reached over and Jack felt a quick pinch.

“All gone,” Bitty said. “Now can we go?”

It's funny to me that people are so offended by Feyre becoming a High Lady. As if it's such an abnormal, nepo, parasitic thing. She is too young! Too immature! Too this and too that.

Also, maybe, politically, Rhys is not too keen on leaving his Court to Keir, or Amren, should he die. Maybe, Feyre IS the best choice.

Octavia sat on the edge of the bed texting Simon waiting for brothers to finish getting ready because they take forever.

She smiled at the text before clicking off her phone when she heard her brothers all walk back into the room, she looked up seeing the three all in their suits but she shook her head at Jack’s hair because what did he do to it.

Octavia was wearing black trousers and a black off the shoulder long sleeve with black and white low Nike dunks, she did a light makeup and straighten her hair.

“Finally!” Octavia groaned standing up off the bed slipping her phone into her trousers.

“It’s takes time to look good moons.” Jack smirked ruining a hand through his hair.

“They why did it take you so long?” Octavia innocently questioned tilting her head before walking to the door and walking out of the hotel room with the three following.

“Hey!” Jack complained as he followed Quinn and Luke who were snickering.

Octavia just smiled slighty before continuing the walk to the hotel lobby where there parents were. They all walked down broadway to the arena and onto the red carpet.

“Taves!” Auston Matthew grinned calling out her name walking over to her, he pulled her into a gentle hug.

“Hi Aus.” Octavia grinned slightly hugging back before pulling away seeing her family looking at her with a curious looks, as Octavia doesn’t tend to like a lot of people.

“Auston this is my family, My mom Ellen, My dad Jim, Quinn, Jack and My twin Luke.” Octavia proudly smiled introducing her family to one of the teammates she is closest with.

“It’s nice to meet all of you!” Auston politely smiled at the Hughes having met Quinn and Jack a few times before.

Jack saw Nico and perked up dragging his parents with him to the Hischer’s, Quinn trailed behind them, Luke looked at Octavia and she just smiled nodding knowing Luke wanted to say hi to his captain.

Octavia and Austin started talking and posed for a photo together a media person asked for before Auston noticed her shoes and let out a chuckle.

“What?” Octavia scrunched her eyebrows looking confused.

“Mitchy is gonna be so mad.” Auston chuckled gesturing to his shoes and her shoes.

Octavia looked down seeing Austin wearing the same pair of Nike dunks as she is, and just shook her head knowing Mitch will be upset, and speaking of Mitch they heard his voice and looked over seeing Mitch and Steph walking to them.

“My Child!!!!” Mitch Marner grinned going right to Octavia pulling her into a tight hug, “We missed you!”

“Hi Mitchy. I saw you a few weeks ago.” Octavia deadpanned but accepted the hug from Mitch.

“A few weeks too long. Zeus misses you.” Mitch pulled back looked very serious.

“I miss him too.” Octavia replied with a very small grin, before turning to Steph, “Hi Steph.”

Steph grinned pulling Octavia into a hug, “Tavia!” She gently pulled back smiling at Octavia’s outfit, “You picked this one.” Steph smiled having gone shopping and picked out that outfit for Octavia.

“i like it.” Octavia simply nodded.

“I’m glad.” Steph fondly smiled at the girl who her and her husband have adopted as their own during the season.

Mitch gasped dramatically, “Guys! You didn’t.” He frowned seeing Auston and Octavia matching shoes, “You said no!” Mitch asked them to match and Octavia said she had her outfit already and Auston said no.

“Would you believe us when we said we didn’t plan this.” Auston mischievously smirked at his best friend.

“No.” Mitch deadpanned.

Octavia shrugged, “Well i didn’t willingly match with him.” Mitch nodded believing Octavia.

“I wanna meet your twin!” Mitch smiled excitedly wanting to meet the person that means the most to Octavia, and he tried to meet Luke during the season but they always kept missing each other.

Octavia nodded turning around, “Lucky!” She called out gaining Luke’s attention who excused himself from the group and walked over to his twin sister linking his arm with hers, “Lucky this is Mitch and Steph. This is Luke.” Octavia proudly introduced her twin brother.

“Hi! Winnie has told me all about you guys!” Luke smiled shaking Steph and Mitch’s hands.

Mitch awed holding a hand to his heart, “You talk about us Tavie!”

“Shut up.” Octavia muttered ignoring the smiles from all four of them.

“Winnie?” Steph curiously questioned tilting her head at the twins.

“Oh i’ve always called her Winnie after her middle name.” Luke quickly explained making the three nod.

Steph, Austin and Mitch all have seen a softer side of Octavia whenever she talking to or about her twin but seeing her interact with him it’s easy to notice how much softer she is with him.

Octavia and Luke saw their family already walked into the Arena, the twins walked in with Auston, Mitch and Steph into the Nashville Arena sitting in their seats which happen to be right next to them, The Hughes were in one row and Mitch and Steph behind them and Auston sat next to Mitch.

Octavia sent a small wave to Nico who sat with his family at the end of the row her and her family sat down in, Nico sent a smile and a wave back.

Octavia slid into the seat next to Jack and Luke sat next to her at the end of the row.

Octavia sat through most of the awards given out to players, clapping politely. Now it’s the Calder Award, the award she’s nominated for.

Jelly Roll a newer artist was the one that announcing the award, he walked out with a grin, “What’s up Nashville, I love y’all too.” The crowd cheered for him, “Ha, It feels right that i’m handing out the Calder Trophy because i am kinda a rookie of a year myself. But for everyone you see as a rookie or an overnight success there are years and years of hard work to going to that first breakout season, and here are the finalists.”

The screen lite up showing the finalists and then showing each one again, first Matty Beniers Seattle Kraken and a few big highlights from his year, Owen Powers Buffalo Sabres and all of his highlights, and Lastly Octavia Hughes and her highlights of her season.

Mitch reached forward shaking her shoulders during her highlights making her shake her head fondly.

“And the Calder Memorial Trophy goes to OCTAVIA HUGHES.” The crowd went crazy cheering for her as she stood up and was pulled into a tight hug by her twin brother.

She turned around getting pulled into a hug by Jack and quickly Quinn, before scooting forward letting her parents hug her, she accepted the fist bump from Nico.

She scooted back down the aisle seeing Mitch and Austin standing up and leaned over her chair pulling them into a hug at the same time, “Thank you.” Because Octavia knew how much they helped her this season, she sent a smile to Luke before beginning the long walk down the aisle between the rows and walking the steps onto the stage.

Octavia got handed the trophy and held it to her as she walked to the microphone alreadly dreading the speech, if she was being completely honest she didn’t remember a single word for the speech trying not to throw up.

Octavia let out a breath as she walking back down the stairs, she walked down the aisle back into her seat sitting down. “How bad?” Octavia whispered to her twin wanting to know how bad her speech was.

“It was perfect.” Luke gently smiled at his twin reassuring her.

Summary: Sheila was a slave taken by a British couple at the age of 12 for her singing. She was brought to America even though they had the 13th Amendment where slavery was abolished. She saw a friend of hers, who was brought with her, getting flogged and that was her last straw, proceeding to run away. Until she sees the most notorious outlaw in the South, then she settles to free her friends from the British couple that came to America for money.

It was July.25, 1878, Lincoln County, New Mexico. Sheila woke up to nothing but harsh screams coming from one of her friends as she was beaten and whipped. She felt worried because the girl was new…Unlike Sheila who had been with the owner since she was twelve, merely because his wife liked her singing when they had come to visit British India.

Her friend, Catherine, was a sad sixteen-year-old, mourning the death of her parents. They had threatened the owners of telling law enforcement what was happening but they knew that they wouldn't do anything about it.

The other slaves ran to her screams but were faced with fear and did nothing besides revel in their powerlessness. Sheila sat there, her damp brown skin and greasy raven hair clinging to her shell of a body. She knew how this would end, knew that they would be feeble against the man–Edward J. Mason– but she was ready to clean Catherine’s wounds and reassure her that she would be alright.

“Oh, look at my slave, Sheila, so obedient! You never have to hurt her, Edward!”

The sadistic gray-haired man chuckled, kissing his wife.

“ And aren’t I glad, Penelope! We chose her when she was twelve, it has been seven years since, of course, she’d love us, this is why I love Indians! They always gift us with beauty and trust.”

They both glanced at the gaunt, starved girl before chuckling. The Mistress patted Sheila’s head and reached for a rake beside her, beckoning to the other slaves. 

Penelope Mason was a woman no different from her husband. Many wives were afraid of their spouses but Penelope was a wife who had nothing but pride in her bones. The rake in Penelope’s hand was covered in blood, meant to whip the slaves that threatened their control and most times Sheila could willing block out the screeches and screams, but now she just felt angry, ready to beat the couple with no morals. 

But she was stuck being useless to defend them.

Fear is a burden that was attached to her like a drug, and only withdrawal held her back from screaming her heart out.

Until she found a boy with the brightest blue eyes. 

From what she’d heard, he was an outlaw.

Billy the Kid was infamous because he was the man who killed a sheriff months ago, and chased out of the state. It was a mystery how he gained the courage to return to New Mexico.

“ Who’re you?” The man questioned, his vibrant cobalt eyes gazing at her with hostility.

Sheila didn’t want to think more about the dominant color in his entire posture and frame. His clothes were darker than sin and brighter than the sun, but his eyes were the only thing she could pay attention to, causing her to ignore their proximity.

“ I am a slave, belonging to the Mason family.”

He tilted his head, shocked eyes analyzing their surroundings.

“ I didn’ ask what you were forced to be, I asked who you are.”

“ My name is Sheila, is that what you want?”

“ Huh, I’m Billy, but considerin’ the poster you were starin’ at a min’ ago, you already know that. But...how did you...No, how dare they have slaves!”

@hufflepuffinstorybrooke opened us up this year on July 1 with a wonderful soulmates OS called If You're Lucky, Love Leaves Scars, that I was privileged to make artwork for. The fic left me in tears and melting at the same time!

On July 3, @teamhook posted the first chapter of her fic The Last Witch Hunter, inspired by the Vin Diesel movie of the same name. Only one ch so far, but I'm absolutely captivated and eagerly awaiting more! Very intriguing artwork by herself.

@spartanguard dropped her Killian's evil twin MC on July 5, Sons of Love and Death, with artwork by herself. That artwork, of two incredibly handsome guys shouldn't be as chilling as it is, but IT IS... The fic is completely written and she's been updating weekly, so we're on ch9 of 13. Just sayin, but I'm about ready to use a certain dagger on a certain evil twin.

July 7 @goforlaunchcee posted Smoke and Mirrors, a HOOT of a ghost story, with such lovely artwork by @piinfeathers that perfectly captures CS in this fic. Three chapters are up so far, and I can't wait for more!!!

July 10, @killiansprincss posted her OS A Court of Vines and Shadow inspired by A Court of Thorns and Roses, with absolutely gorgeous artwork by @hollyethecurious. I was not familiar with the source material, so I was completely surprised and delighted with this fic!!!

@athenascarlet posted her merman Killian OS on July 13, The Merman with a wonderful visual on Tumblr 😏 Just a regular night between a sheriff and her merman pirate... Would love to see more of this, but it's staying a OS... for now, she says...

Also on July 13, @anmylica posted the first chapter of Fly With the Black Swan with amazing artwork by @zaharadessert. We have two chs of ten up so far, and I'm sitting on pins and needles waiting for more!!!!

On July 15, @whatevenisthisbloganymore posted the first chapter of Forest View Apartments, a ghost story that has the questions swirling through my mind and eagerly awaiting the next installment! Amazing artwork by @undercaffinatednightmare!

Speaking of @undercaffinatednightmare, real life has been very rude lately and has left her unable to post her two planned fics for this summer, but she has managed to make the artwork for them both that you can find here and here! I love her writing so much and I know whenever RL lets up, both these fics are going to be wonderful!!! *EDITED* The first of her fics, A Charming Curse, has now posted and it promises to be FUN!!!

July 19, @deckerstarblanche posted An Offer She Can't Refuse, with more lovely artwork by @undercaffinatednightmare. Emily only planned two chs for this very hot and sexy Omegaverse fic, but she took it in a very angsty direction in the final scene of ch2, and so has now promised that she'll come back and add one more ch to give us all the happy ending we deserve!

July 22, @zaharadessert posted a very hot demon Killian OS, Sacrificial Lamb that made bloodthirsty Krystal VERY happy. I was once again privileged to make artwork for the fic, with an assist by @motherkatereloyshipper who was responsible for the Emma edit I used.

July 23, @mie779 posted the first chapter of Finding Caldera: The Hidden World of Dragons, with just lovely artwork by @undercaffinatednightmare. The adventure of this fic is just wonderful! We're on ch9 and nearing the end!

On July 25, it was my turn to post for the event! Into the Light was inspired by the 1987 movie The Lost Boys, my very first introduction to vampires and it has never left me! Incredible artwork was created by @motherkatereloyshipper that still just leaves me staring at it slack jawed!

@hollyethecurious posted the first chapter of The Law of Surprise on July 28. Now complete in three parts, this beautiful BEAUTIFUL but also heartbreaking fic was inspired by the law of surprise from The Witcher. Breathtaking artwork was provided by @eastwesthomeisbest and can be found here, here, and here.

@xarandomdreamx posted her CS Practical Magic AU A Crystalline Knowledge of Love and Magic on July 30. Beautiful artwork by @hollyethecurious. Only one chapter so far and my heart is so broken for Emma and Elsa but also completely in love with the story!!!!

Rounding out July, @caught-in-the-filter posted original artwork featuring ghost Emma and vampire Killian that was absolutely CHILLING!!!!

@snowbellewells started Aug off on the 2nd with an incredible one shot, Deluge! Gorgeous artwork by @eastwesthomeisbest. I am so hopeful that Marta will eventually write more of this wonderfully intriguing fic!!!

Then, @eastwesthomeisbest was so inspired by Marta's fic, she made her own original art in the same vein as the art she made for the fic. Absolutely breathtaking!!!

She also did moodboards to accompany each ch that you can find on each of the Tumblr ch posts x x x and I was also privileged to make a banner for the fic.

On Aug 16, @grimmswan posted the first chs of TWO fabulous fics!!! Dracula in Storybrooke comes from the woefully underutilized Land of Untold Stories arc, and Love Bites (But So Do I) is a supernatural adventure of vampire Emma and werewolf Killian. Artwork coming soon from @cocohook38.

On Aug 18, @snowbellewells posted her second fic of the event, Carolina Moon. A fic inspired by the Nora Roberts novel of the same name, my heart is already, only two chs in, broken for Emma and on the edge of my seat waiting for more! Beautiful artwork again done by @eastwesthomeisbest!

@jrob64 posted Saying Goodbye and Moving On on Aug 20, a DESPERATELY NEEDED and ABSOLUTELY PERFECT fix-it fic from the Underworld arc. I was again privileged to make artwork for it, and I'm just gonna have to accept that I almost can't make picsets anymore without the aid of @motherkatereloyshipper. For this one, she was again responsible for ghost Milah.

Aug 22, @padfootprongslet posted the Prologue for Like Our Love (Falling Down and Over Again). A Mr. and Mrs. Smith inspired fic, my heart was absolutely SHATTERED in this first ch and I can't wait for more! I was again privileged to make a picset for this with @motherkatereloyshipper coming in the clutch entwining the rings.

On Aug 24, @jonesfandomfanatic posted Stolen From Time. Now complete in three parts, this fic was absolutely BRILLIANT!!! @motherkatereloyshipper made a beautiful video to accompany it.

Whumpmas in July Day 25: Share a sneak peek of something you're working on

Y'know what, screw it. I'm giving you a glimpse of the guys from my whumpy symbiote story even though it's probably not going to be ready to start posting anytime soon. Under the cut for possible spoilers and in case you want to avoid getting your interest piqued in something you might have to wait quite a while for.

Ethan blearily came to consciousness on a bed that wasn't his own. He sleepily blinked his eyes open....He was in control of his own body. That was odd. Raoul usually took the driver's seat by default unless the two of them discussed otherwise. "Raoul?" Ethan said. There was no response. Worried, Ethan cast around in his mind to try to find Raoul. He couldn't feel him anywhere. "Raoul!" Ethan cried out more frantically. A doctor came over to him and assured, "It's alright. You're safe." "What's going on? Why can't I hear him?" Ethan asked. "We removed the parasite—" Ethan heard no more; the only word he needed was removed. "You took him out!!?" He shouted. No, no no, he didn't want to be without Raoul. He wanted his friend back—why would these people try to take him away against both their wills? "You've gotta put him back, please!" he begged. Then realized he didn't know where Raoul was if not with Ethan. He couldn't see him anywhere in the room. "Wait, where is he now?" "It's going to be taken to a lab that studies its species." "A LAB!?"

I laughed. Went in for another kiss right as the doors opened. Before either of us could separate there was a flash followed by an electrical whirring from a camera. It was her brother with his Polaroid. And I only knew this guy was Pugsley because he had the same dark eyes as her and a similar nose. Dressed in a black and white striped sweater with black slacks, Birkenstock slides, and box glasses, he stood there with a shit eating grin as the photo slowly ejected from the camera.

"Hey," he smirked. "You must be Tyler."

Silently and awkwardly, I shook the hand he extended out to me. "Yeah. And you're Pugsley, right?"

"Yup." Looking at his sister who was seconds away from turning his guts into her garters, his expression brightened. "Welcome home Wednesday."

"I will murder you in your sleep."

"No you won't because now I know your plan. You're getting sloppy Wen."

Eyes feral, she lunged at him and I intercepted her--hooking an arm around her waist. "No," I said with a grunt, "no killing your brother."

"I like this guy," Pugsley chuckled as he dodged her raging hands as they reached for him. "Thanks man."

"Yeah, no problem. But maybe not antagonize her. That'd be cool."

Removing the picture from the lip of the Polaroid, he held it between two fingers before handing it off to me. "Here, a souvenir. Welcome."

Picture in hand with a bewildered look on my face as he turned and walked away, I looked down at Wednesday as she growled her frustration.

really unproductive day, but hold on tight to your pants. it gets worse tomorrow. i did some exercises, that will be the first task on the exam, it went mostly quite good, actually, but i do want to do more of those and i still have some gaps in this area. other than that - not much else. did some notes at the end and that was it. what hapenned?

that day I think i also had the first since months time, when i couldn't fall asleep immediately, because i started to have panic attack/mental breakdown. it used to be almost daily few months ago, but kind of stopped eventually, and on that day it happened again. i had visuals of my old home and the home of my godmother, where i sometimes would stay for weeks, and started crying uncontrollably. anyways :D the day was over.

i watched the video about dinosaurs and it made me want to draw some dinosaurs. so, here's that, lol. watch the video, by the way, if the topic sounds interesting to you, the guy is really funny.

I slept the whole days, fellas. I managed (mostly because of my incredibly helpful boyfriend trying to support me :')) to wake up at about 11, stayed awake for maybe half an hour to an hour, and then just fell asleep. and slept the whole day, basically. i think i ended waking up at about 7 pm, did some miscellaneous things, had a long ass mental breakdown, crying more than my pride could take, and then went to bed.

But you know what? I feel quite hopeful for today. I woke up fully at about 9:30, had my coffee and cigarette (kids do NOT smoke), cleaned up my studying space, which took a lot MORE than i expected, but now I'm ready to study. i am quite sleepy, but I have to just get myself together and do it. you know, maybe all those failures are okay, because at least i keep trying. eventually one of those tries does succeed in one way or another.

10:50 - 12:42 pages 20-56 in DB5 13:15 - 15:36 finished SE4, 56-82 DB5 then i cooked some food, took a shower and rested for a bit 17:30 - 18:20 FINALLY done with DB5

I cannot express how happy I am to be finally done with this DB 5 lecture. i also calculated the overall amount of slides i should go over, it came up to 374 of them, which comes to about 30 slides a day if i want to finish everything like one day before the exam lol. anyway. tummy hurty but we must persist

Contraband and Fear of Expulsion

May 24 & 25, 2024

We were ready for a break, so we had a relaxing morning: slept until we awoke. Sarah walked up to the dining room to get coffee to take to the room (twice). We took our time packing up, posting the previous day’s blog entry, and enjoying the space. We had to be out of the room by 10:00 AM, and didn’t leave for the airstrip unlit 12:10, so we took advantage of brunch that one doesn’t get on game-drive-days. It was yummy. The watering hole was mostly slow but in addition to impalas and kudus, we were rewarded with warthogs. It looked like a mama and multiple little ones. They’re like miniature versions of rhinos - prehistoric-looking! Sitting in the dining room with a good overlook was perfect for, first, Chris and Lola and, later, John and Julie to stop by and say goodbye. We wished C&L safe driving, and shared crazy travel stories with John and Julie. Such good vehicle-mates they were! Sylvanius drove us to the airport and waited with us until we were loaded on the plane. Much as we didn’t think he was up to par with the other guides we’d had, his manner and enthusiasm managed to get under our skin, and it was a fond farewell with him, too.

One of the multiple young, women pilots we’ve had came up, happy to see us, and was ready to load us into her four-seater, only to realize that she was flying someone else, and we were on a larger plane, leaving at a similar time, also to Jo’Burg. Such a small world this is with limited pilots on the circuit. As they closed the passenger door, they asked Jillebob to secure the latch - holy moly - didn’t want to have a Boeing incident on a Wilderness flight. We had two pilots up front and while we joked that we were on a training flight, more likely it was some sort of orientation flight for the new guy. In the end, he did well.

At Windhoek, we hung out in the Wilderness “lounge” with decent WiFi, and charging outlets. The Wilderness staff person let us know when to check in and go through emigration. Then, it was a bit more of a wait for the flight. Quick and easy - 1.5 hours and we arrived in Jo’Burg. We had a crazy guy meet us, super nice, but by the time we got our bags and he dropped us at the hotel, we knew all the sordid details of his life. Fun, but nuts.

In the room, Jill FT’d with Janet while Seb purged (1 kg over the Eastern Africa little-flights limit). We bought a bottle of wine in duty-free Windhoek and the check-out gal gave us a song and dance about when we could/couldn’t bring it into South Africa. We decided it was risk-worthy contraband and were grateful when we got to the room. Novice smugglers, we did ok.

The room was comfortable save for the beds so tightly tucked in that Jill woke up complaining that her feet had been in jail overnight! But truly, the Intercontinental made for an easy, comfortable overnight stay. We packed up quickly in the morning and had a wonderful breakfast at the hotel before heading back across the street to the airport. It seems that the immigration go-slow is over, as it was as easy getting through emigration, as it was going through immigration last night. We had some local currency to spend, so wandered around, bought some chocolate and mints for the road, then tucked the last little bundle of rands in a bin for charity.

We waited for a while at Gate A1 only to have a gal swing by and tell about 8-10 of us that the gate had changed to A21. Ha. After a short wait at the gate, we loaded into (or should we say stuffed into) a bus that sat… and sat…and sat by the gate, with us all the while breathing in bus fumes from others idling all in a row. Turns out, we were waiting for one person. The tarmac crew did not inspire confidence. When we got the plane, they opened the door, folks started disembarking and they told us to stay put. Didn’t seem like the safest move, but no one was run over by a passing plane before they let us board. All in all, though, we’ve really enjoyed our three SA Airlink flights. None were full, seats seem more spacious than US domestic flights and flight crew was friendly and professional.

The worry came when they passed out the immigration cards and the health section asked for confirmation that visitors have had yellow fever immunization within the past 10 years. Yikes!!! Sarah’s is 12 years old. First reaction: can one sue Passport Health, the clinic where we each had appointments to get squared away on shots? After filling out one form honestly, Sarah opted to get another form, say yes (vaccine within ten years) and plead ignorance if questioned on entry to Madagascar. Seb wished Jillebob a nice onward journey in case she was expelled at immigration. Thankfully, our airport meet-and-greet guy met us planeside (wow -service!) and hustled us through immigration, health check and bag pick-up without a hitch. Well, only one minor hiccup when immigration’s automatic sensor couldn’t read the visa stamp they had just applied to Seb’s passport. Yay for our M&G guy - we were with our guide and driver, on the way to the hotel, in about 15 minutes!

Maharo, our guide for the first part of our Madagascar adventure, and a driver met us as we emerged from picking up bags, and drove us to the hotel. What an interesting drive! City life is so different from the tourist-oriented safari locations. Looks like quite a bit of poverty here. The road went through rice paddies with shacks; small road-side stands for food; zebu, that are akin to cows but not, until we reached the city. There continued shacks, make shift buildings and more and more actual buildings. The streets were busy, traffic a bit crazy. We never saw a really modern part of town. The city center seems to be on a hill, with lots of cobblestone roads, steps going up and down the hill, lovely-looking (but well-protected) and shabby buildings mixed in all the way to our lovely hotel. It’s the residence of the Consular General of Monaco (who had the 3rd floor) and a hotel with only about four rooms on the lower two levels. Really lovely! Armed guards at the door. Maharo and the staff suggested we pass on going out for a walk - sounds like tourist safety is a concern here. We ventured out anyway; it was simply too long to sit around. We did follow their caution to stay on the main roads and not go into any alleys or buildings. More of the same - alternating lovely and shabby buildings, crazy drivers, not particularly friendly people passing on the street. It will be interesting to see the contrast from here to the countryside. The sprawling cityscape from high up is striking, with some seriously beautiful flowering trees, even if close up the sidewalks are treacherous, streets dirty and not a lot to see.

Back at the hotel, we chilled out in the room for a bit then went upstairs to order a bottle of wine in the lovely living room adorned with Grace Kelly books, eclectic art, and some African artifacts - cool. At 7:00 PM, the other two couples at the residence (all whom we recognized from our flight) arrived for dinner that was set up as a table for two and a larger table with two at each end. We encouraged everyone to join at the common table which threw the staff a bit, but made for a very entertaining evening. Both couples were 70-ish, super nice and extremely adventurous. All four Aussies with one gent originally from Glasgow, one woman from England and the other woman born in South Africa: another wonderful international group. We went around the table and introduced ourselves. Typically, Jill is the worst at remembering names, but the two women were Lynn and Maureen — the same names as Jill’s sisters-in-law. The conversation was about travel, with memories and recommendations shared all around. Back in the room to wrap up the blog post from our two travel days and off to sleep for an early rise tomorrow.

Who's ready for sad fan theory??

All aboard for some sad TriMax feels, spoilers ahead!

Trigun Stampede did a tidy job of cleaning up a few plot holes left behind by Mr. Nightow, esp. the one that bothered me a lot-- how the devil Conrad never died of old age. See figure 1 and figure 2 below, Conrad when he first meets the twins (a bit of hair) and at the time of his death (no hair)

Looking pretty good for a 200+ year old guy. He went from a balding man clocking in his 30s, to IDK, late-40s (or however Nightow feels like drawing him in any particular frame lol). How? Let's inventory what we can be sure of:

Conrad was born and raised somewhere in outer-space, perhaps Earth, perhaps not.

He is an accomplished space-stuff engineer, and a top crewmember of SEEDS, he's brought in and out of cryo sleep for emergencies

Somehow he survived the same crash that killed Rem, and made a comfortable life under the name Count Revenant Vasquez

Knives just shows up in his living room one night to recruit him

However, it did take more than 80 years for Knives to mature into an adult. Eighty! See Figure 3 below, from Vol 12 Ch 5, he still has a relatively boy-like countenance. Don't worry about what he's up to in this scene, shhhhh, it's fine.

So guessing that Knives finished maturing into an adult, found his favorite space fashion, and learned how to manspread on a couch (See Fig. 5), that must have been another 10-20 years, maybe?

Conrad was definitely at July before and after its destruction. He helped Legato pull Knives out of the rubble. That means we have a minimum of ~25 years. So the window of time for entering Knives service is 60-25 years. I'm going to spitball that at the start of the story, he spent 110 years as the Count, and then 40 years as Knives's subordinate. Math: I did it. You're welcome.

He only looks like he's aged 30 years (max) from start to finish, though.... It's somewhat plausible that he could afford to pay for more cryosleep as Count Vasquez on and off for 110 years, but would Knives also let his top scientist cryosleep as much as he wanted for another 40-ish years? (This is not accounting for any special treatment from obvious daddy issues because Knives kept Conrad around as a secret father figure.)

Would it even be that practical for ship survivors/Knives/anyone to just sit on that kind of knowledge/experience for years at a time, in a desperate place such as this? Or maybe... he just wasn't aging. He's a space person who was genetically modified to keep Project SEEDS going for as long as possible. And The Count was an alias created after it became obvious he wasn't getting older.

But you know who was also a top crewmate. Someone who would been also modified to ensure the best possible odds for SEEDS...

It's likely Rem would have also had Conrad's dubiously long lifespan. Rem, and Vash, and Knives (and maybe even Conrad, even though he's a lame ass loser) could have been a family for 150+ years. Or, if I'm totally wrong here, she could have similarly been afforded the same privileged treatment Conrad managed to secure for himself (in the middle of century-and-a-half long crisis, no less).

All this time... they might have been happy. And Knives? He's no dummy. He knew.

What's he supposed to say about people he's not supposed to care about?

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring- not even a mouse.. well maybe a couple wrapping presents..

“Kaity?, awh baby are you tired?” Kait rose her head to see her husband trying to finish wrapping the last few presents for their son, rylen.

“Oh gav, sorry.. im just kinda tired I guess,” he cut her off.

“, here deviant let me..” he said taking the toy dinosaur from her hands

She nodded handing it to her husband, who happily obliged to finish the job for his tired partner.

“Thanks gav.. I’m sorry guess I’m kinda worn out from trying to get rylen to lie down, he was kinda jumpy today, well it is Christmas after all..” I said slowly standing up.

“It’s okay, I’m happy to help, I swear it’s no trouble..” he swore. smiling softly, admiring kaits tired beautiful face, slightly blushing, a little yawn escaping her lips.

“Heh.” He let out a little chuckle, remembering how they met, and how they were here now.

“What?” She asked smiling at her husbands toothy grin that she admired heavily

“I just love you.” He said quickly feeling more in love then ever before.

She laughed at the random- not unwelcome, but random comment.

“I love you more gav.” She said completely ready to play that game

“Heh. Well I love you most.” He said smirking completely aware of what he was doing.

She let out a shocked gasp, dramatically, she draped a hand over her eyes.

“Oh but my love there is no way, for I love you the most…est..?” She stated making up a word as she spoke

“Shut up you goofball.” He said also standing up after he’d finished wrapping the gift his son had been asking for, since July.

They both sighed relieved, that they were done wrapping all the presents that Gavin they both collectively picked out because they spoiled loved their son with all of their hearts.

“Alright big man,” she paused gently slapping his bare chest. “,let’s hit the hay.” Kait said walking off, but as she was, Gavin swooped in and stole a kiss, waking off before her; despite of who left to get there first.

“Goodnight my love.” He said, snuggling up behind his wife, whom he loved deeply

“Night, gav.- love you.” She said snuggling into his chest, despite how cold it was he didn’t want to wear a shirt to bed. Fact, he outright refused to wear a shirt to bed.

“Pssttt…mom. Dad. GUYS.” Gavin heard a muffled little voice say.

“Hmm w-wat..?” He sleepily said.

“ITS CHRISTMAS..” rylen exclaimed

Gavin turned over to check his phone, in order to confirm his jumpy sons statement

4:56 am December 25.

He groaned. “Ry, can’t you wait an hour?” Gavin asked his son on top of him, and kait- who somehow was fast asleep

“Daddddddd, no.. PLEASEEE..” Rylen, begged.

“Okay Okay I’m up- I’m up.” He said slowly sitting up, yanking rylen, setting him atop his shoulders

“C’mon kiddo..,” he paused looking back at kait.

“Lets make mom, breakfast first Ry. Wanna help me make it?” Gavin asked his son who was gripping onto his dads forehead for dear life.

“Yeh dad.” He said re-gripping his hands

“Relax kiddo- I won’t drop you.” Gavin reassured rylen, who wouldn’t budge

“Op- my bad sorry dad.” Gavin turned away from the stove to see flour everywhere, on the floor, the counter, in rylen s hair-,”

“Looks like it’ll be a white Christmas after all..” Gavin heard and quickly turned around to the kitchen entrance, to see kait laughing,

“Oh kaity, did we wake you? Sorry,” Gavin got cut off by rylen

“,MOMMY! Me and dad made you breakfast, see? See?” He pointed at Gavin, simmering bacon on the stove.

“I see. Now uh, let’s go get you some clean clothes kiddo.” She said, grabbing her sons messy hand, laughing.

“You big goofs..” she mumbled to herself, leaving Gavin to his devices

“Rylen. Kiddo sit down.” Gavin said grabbing rylens waist to pull him back down to the chair he was previously sitting at.

“Sorry dad.” He mumbled, grabbing a fork, to stab at his bacon.

With that Gavin, slowly took the fork out of his hand and put the bacon in his hand instead

“Oh.” He said confused

“I know right, like eating with your hands, ew. But just try it.” He said facing his son, than looking at kait, to whom he shrugged at.

“woah, look at all the presents!” Rylen exclaimed pointing at them with an awestruck expression

“I know, Santa got busy this year.” Kait said smiling, Gavin shot his head around to face her

“Who?” He whispered to her visibly confused.

“I’ll tell you later.” She said back. He nodded confused but he would save it for later.

“Oh my gosh, IS THAT A FIRETRUCK?!” Rylen yelled, jumping up and down. So far this was the same reaction to every present he’d gotten so far.

“Super cool huh? Oh shoot, Gavin can you get the camera from the bedroom?” Kait asked her husband, who was half asleep

He shot up and nodded, kissing her cheek and walking away.

“I’m baacck!” He announced with extra pizzazz, being the drama queen he is.

He leant over to give kait the camera, she took it, fingers lightly brushing against eachothers. Gavin chuckled ever so slightly at the contact.

“Ooo wow! Is this a jojos blizzare adventure, ACTION FIGURE??” He exclaimed loudly unwrapping it with more power now.

Kait looked over to Gavin who was shamelessly smiling at Rylen. She was confused. Very confused.

She leaned over to Gavin and whispered,

“Did you get him that?” She asked

He turned to her with a smile and leaned over as well and whispered

“Who else?” With an odd tone. She smiled wryly, not to match Gavin’s mischievous; not secret addiction to the Anime series.

“Super epic..” he muttered admiringly at the box in his hands, probably the best reaction they’d gotten out of him.

KNOCK KNOCK

“Oh that’s probably the guys.” Gavin said shooting up. Freelancer nodded as he went to the foyer to open the door.

“Yo gav!” She heard Huxley exclaim, pulling Gavin into a tight hug.

“Kait! Hi!!” He said dropping Gavin and giving her a hug as well

“Hey hux!” She exclaimed, retaliating the hug.

Damian, lasko, and hux and Damian’s twin sons, Carmen, and Noelle, all walked into the house; carrying presents, food platters, and apple cider.

“H-hey gu-guys!” Lasko mumbled

“Hi lasko..” Gavin said with a smile.

“CARMEN! NOELLE LETS PLAY C’MON!!” rylen yelled to his two friends who quickly trotted over to him.

“Play nicely boys hmm?” Gavin said with a smile and a raised brow.

“Yes sir!” They all yelled simultaneously.

Kait gestured to grab the food from huxley,

“Oh thank you.” He muttered with a smile, grabbing the apple cider and following her to the kitchen.

“So Gavin, how’s it been?” Damian asked nonchalantly.

“Pretty good wildfire. Nice wife, cute kid; can’t complain.” Gavin said putting his hands in his pockets of his sweatpants.

“Same here; well except I don’t have a wife. I have a husband.” Damian retorted with a grin.

Gavin nodded with a chuckle.

“Oh! Huxley you can just slide that on the counter, no need to put it in the fridges.” Kait said to her friend, who nodded and set it on the counter.

“Okay great. Can I get you anything? Coffee?cocoa? Apple juice?” Just then rylen yelled

“MOM THATS MY JUICE!” from the living room.

She just grinned while huxley laughed.

“I know you goofball!” She yelled chuckling

“So then Noelle KICKED THE RACCON!” Carmen said making various gestures and facial expressions. He was more on the loud end of things, whilst his brother was on the quiet side.

Carmen nodded with a smile.

Damian sighed with a dry chuckle, turning his head to face huxley.

“They get to much from you.” He admitted. Huxley laughed.

“Awh I dunno babe, Carmen’s like your carbon copy.” Huxley said pointing In between the two of them.

“Yeah yeah what ever.” Damian shrugged

“It’s true Damian, Noelle is a lot like you.” Gavin said lightly sipping on a cup of wine.

Kait nodded in agreement.

“You know I’m really glad you Invited us gav, and freelancer!” Huxley said smiling, gift bags in hand

“Yeah thanks.” Damian said, probably still salty about getting a candle.

“Anytime!”

“No problem!” Kait and Gavin said simultaneously

“Rylen go to sleep dude.” Kait whispered, pulling a blanket up to her sons shoulders

“Love you mommy.” He mumbled

“Love ya kid.” She said back, giving him a big kiss on his cheek.

Gavin plopped down on their shared bed, leaning his head up to look at kait.

“Well I’d say today was a success wouldn’t you?” He asked kicking his feet, head in palms

“Yeah it went pretty good. But…,” kait started smiling

“Hmm?” He hummed

“,I still have one more gift for you.” She finished, pulling a box from under the bed.

Gavin took it from her and looked down at it then at her, with a confused gaze.

He slowly unwrapped the mysterious box, to uncover a framed picture of him, kait, and rylen, where they were all goofing off during family photos.

“Oh kaity..” he whispered grazing his hands over the glass

“Do ya like it?” She asked anticipating an answer

“Like it? Oh I love it! Thank you.” He said pulling her close for a sweet kiss.

“I’ll hang it first thing tomorrow..” Gavin swore.

“I look forward to it. I love you Gavin.” Kait said smiling gleefully at him

“I love you more.” Gavin smiled ear to ear at her.

“We’re not going down that path again.” She laughed out.

I worked at the college today with my work company. I was thankfully directed to help out R and our friend, as well as, a couple other students that helped out. 

In the morning a couple of the others were teasing R about how he teaches and he turned to me and said, “see, even if you’re not here I still get teased. Not much has changed.” We had a good laugh about it. At a few points R took off his hat and I noticed that he had some gray hair coming in and I was a bit surprised. The whole time I had been there, he hadn’t gotten any. I brought it up later when he took off his hat again saying, “I’m not around for a year and you get gray hair now??” He smiled and took off his hat again and tilted his head down to me and I put a finger up and lightly go over where it was growing in at. He chuckled and said that he blames it was from starting to teach. 

I was hanging out with another of R’s coworkers that I’ve talked to on and off the time I’ve been going to that school. He’s told me about how R frustrates him sometimes but he knows he’s knows his stuff and is a good guy at the end of the day. We talked about comparing this year’s ceremony to last year’s. He has a tone of annoyance from this younger girl that was following R like a lost puppy (and it got on my nerves a bit too) and how I took over the job she was supposed to do because she didn’t want to do it and stay with R the whole time when she was initially going to do an internship with the coworker. A bit later I approached R and as he was about to head back to his spot I put my hand on his arm and he leant over to me and told him something that his coworker wanted him to do while I was just talking to him since we know R gets sidetracked and hyper focused easily. I said it like “as a gentle reminder, you still need to have time to do this” he nodded thanked me for reminding him. A bit later the coworker when to R’s spot with him while I was doing other stuff. So I wonder if R mentioned that I reminded him or if he played it off as though he knows he still needs to do that other stuff if his coworker brought it up. Either way, I just wanted to save him some potential chop busting.

At the end of the day, I was ready to head out and wanted to say goodbye to R and our other friend that I’ve known the whole time too. R was the closest and I let him know I was leaving and he stopped on his heals and turned towards me and put his hand up, I thought to give a high-five. So I gave gave him one slightly because at that point he moved in for a hug and I hugged him back for a few moments before we pulled back and told him goodbye and that I was heading over to say goodbye to our other friend and that I’d like to get together and do something since I’m graduating. He agreed and said that he’s free on the weekends. My other friend gave me a hug too and we talked about getting together once the semester ends and everything calms down. 

So that’s it! I’ll be getting my degree. R is going to be moving a few towns over in June/July. He didn’t say he was quitting or anything so I assume he’s going to make that commute which is crazy alone cuz I know he hates online teaching and would much rather teach in person. I’m sad he’s no longer going to live so close. It was a nice feeling though I rarely ran into him. I’ve been in a weird headspace from everything.
