Black-e gallery visit 5th February. 

On this field trip we went to the Black-e community arts centre and galley, and i must admit it is not what i expected to be, however i enjoyed the experience and it was good to know how a community arts centre survives and what it has to go through with the Liverpool City Council and the Art funds to keep the funds in order to run it. The bottom floor of the centre is both an art galley, community centre which holds events for children and disabled people; Showing the artists Julie Chicago's works on feminism, they house these due to her visit several years ago where she worked with the gallery for a number of weeks! The bottom floor also houses smaller exhibition for example one i really liked (bottom photographs) was the exhibition on artists who previously worked with the gallery years ago showing where they are now and contrasting the past and present with information! i found this really intriguing to see what the storyies behind all these artists were. We got to tour the building and learn about its history and what they have to offer which again was very interesting and quite sad at the same time, due to there funding cuts. They had another smaller exhibition in the events hall which was about the ku klux klan and the riots which were in Tulsa in the 1920's and the cartoon like paintings described what was happening at the time.  

The city council and the arts fund are trying to cut the funding for the Black E which will make it almost impossible for it to survive, they are asking for letters to be sent to the council in order for them to reconsider there decision and to show them how much they need the money and how they're helping the community.And after hearing the stories of how it was thriving in the 70/80's with the help of such a famous artist like Julie Chicago it is such a shame to see something which helps a community be in danger of being closed down.
