Acclimatizing with the @alpenglowexpeditions team. The goal always looks so far, but it's coming within reach. Today we made it to Pastakov rocks at 4700m, braving the wild Russian snow cat track 😁. 🗻 This mountain has so many hilarious scenes- Russians bathing in glacial melt streams, men posing shirtless for selfies, snowmobiles zooming around with scantily clad girls, skiers surfing the slushy cat track. Glowing lichen, perfect cracks, good temps and a great friend. What more could you want on a #climbing trip? Maybe a few fixed nuts at the cruxes ;)

#NorthsideSummitPush : return to the life zone. The struggle isn't just to get out of the "death zone", it's to get back to the life zone. After reaching the top, we want to get to thick air, warm temps and as far from the jet stream as we can. We rested at Camp 3 for an hour, rehydrating and refueling before packing our bags and returning to descent. Once again, a huge thanks to our #Phortse #Sherpa team, who dropped camp and carried our infrastructure down. #superhuman The weather didn't cooperate. As we packed, winds and clouds whipped up and light snow began. We made a speedy exit, knowing we had 6,000' of descent left before we would hit #everestabc. We arm-wrapped the fixed lines, belaying ourselves below camp, past the body of an Australian climber who had died the week before. Condolences to his friends and family. Camp 2, pictured, looked like a post-apocalyptic warzone with thick cloud rolling over tents shredded days earlier by gale force winds. Clearing the lines of rime as we went, the snow ramp between C2 and the #NorthCol seemed never ending. We paused to melt snow and drink before making the final push down the fixed lines. 18 hours after we started, we were home. Safe at ABC. Thick air. Real food. Coca cola. #NorthsideSummitPush: the descent. When you hit the top, you're halfway there. This statement has a heavier feel to it when you're close to the cruising altitude of a 787. The pressure to get to where the air is thick and camps aren't exposed to the severe winds of the jet stream is constant and urgent. There is no time for dilly dallying. The business at hand is descent. Here we are almost back to Camp 3 (8300m/27,000'), just getting to the bottom of the Exit Cracks. The weather was still good at this point, just convective moisture building. On top of the world! Great summit day- warm and calm for the duration of our climb above high camp. The night started calm and clear. As we crested the #NortheastRidge we could see across the #KangshungFace to headlamps from climbers ascending from the #SouthCol- one of the most amazing sights I've seen. Clouds built and snow started, but we picked our window to avoid the bitter winds of the jet stream, so we were pleased by the weather (until our descent below C3 😑) We made it all the way back to #EverestABC after the #summit- an 8,000' descent! @adrianballinger made the top without Os and then returned to ABC too- huge shout out for that monumental feat! So psyched everyone made it up and down safely. HUGE thanks to our incredible #Sherpa team: Panuru (sirdar), @dorjisherpa, Phurba, Nawong, @namgye, Pasang Ringi and Mingma. We're at camp 3!! The team is feeling great, and since we have Chinese data I figured I'd post 😛 Today was tough, blowing snow and cold winds... But we expected that from today on our move from C2 to C3. It was a good test for us and our gear and we're confident we picked one of the best windows of the season. The photo is @coryrichards arriving at camp 2 yesterday. Winds from the previous few days ravaged the camp, destroying tents and littering food, supplies and tent skeletons everywhere (as shown). Our #Sherpa team acted fast and reset camp in a flash. We're lucky to have such a strong and able team! @namgye, one of our super strong climbing Sherpa, smiling wide this morning at our #Puja ceremony. Our entire team (minus @brooks.entwistle, soon to arrive!) was at #EverestBaseCamp for this important ritual. . With help of the local Rongbuck lama, we prayed for safe passage on the mountain and had important climbing gear and food blessed - the #Lhasa beer was blessed, don't worry! The view from @alpenglowexpeditions #EverestBaseCamp on the #Northside. We arrived yesterday and our Sherpa team had set up the extensive camp we'll call home for the next few weeks. We have a Sling Fin dome for dining and relaxing (yes, I did demolish @estebantopomena , @chadpeele and @kirkallen714 at Gin Rummy there last night), a shower tent, bathroom tents, storage tents and a cook tent on top of our sleeping tents. Whoosh! The slough exploded past me as I skied up the rib to manage the sliding snow. The loose snow was running fast and long. It rivaled yesterday's storm skiing in #Tahoe, where ski cutting wind slabs and finding safe powder turns kept my attention all day. . This is @aliagee a few hours ago ripping #powder near #Mammoth.
