#juke is cute and so is Alex/Luke

On top of being robbed of so much Juke content we’ll never get, what I think about alot is how Juke would have been approached more if it went further.

One of the (many) reasons I love jatp so much is it makes me believe their characters are real, that they have background, they have their own goals and ambitions to them, they’re fleshed out.

That moment of Flynn going “my girls got a crush and his name is Luke” and Julie going “what no?! Luke’s a ghost😳.” And Flynn saying “a cute ghost” and Julie giving in and saying “…with a perfect smile☺️” and adding that Luke is “cute air” which implies she has indeed given this Luke crush idea some thought.

That moment of just two best friends talking about the others potential crush like that’s such a good moment bc I genuinely believe that I am watching these two genuine besties just have that kind of talk with one another bc that happens!

Like that moment we have with our friends when they’re like “hey I got something to tell you 👀” or they approach you like “so… umm… I’ve been kind of noticing your behavior lately around this person.” It’s the realistic little things like that which is why I appreciate this show so much.

Julie having the line of “what no! Luke’s a ghost!” Means so much that, on top of acknowledging “hey he’s got a cute smile, and he himself is cute” she also acknowledged “…he is a ghost though…” but then our Julie being who she is (we love her for it) went “but he still do be cute though 🥰” like this is a genuine teen girl in high school having a crush

And then later on when Reggie and Alex bring up how Luke and Julie ooze chemistry (and the way that throughout the show when Julie and Luke are being cute and them, the looks that we see Reggie and Alex give like Juke and then each other is so good bc I genuinely believe like “yeah these boys are all friends with one another so of course they’d react that way to their other friend showing an interest in their fellow friend”) Luke’s like “no come on I have chemistry with everyone I sing with” HE DOES THE SAME THING JULIE DID WHEN THE EXACT SAME TOPIC EAS BROUGHT UP TO HER! (Soulmates your honor!)

Him denying it, like Julie did, implies too that he also had the thinking of “…she is alive though and I’m not” (I mean me personally I feel like Luke didn’t truly realize he liked her until later on even if there were signs earlier, just bc he seems like the kind of person where like music was his absolute everything like even if the Sunset Curve fangirls were always like ‘omg Luke is amazing 😍’, I just get the vibe that he would never really notice the advances towards him bc he is just so consumed in music and that is his whole existence, so when Reggie and Alex see that Luke appears to be falling for Julie it’s a big deal bc they’re probably like “Luke has NEVER shown any interest ever so the fact that a girl has replaced music in his life THIS IS A MASSIVE DEAL”)

And then the moment when they’re on Julie’s porch and she tries to hold his hand but ya know CANT (huge what a gut punched) and then she awkwardly looks away and he’s like “…this is an interesting little relationship you and I have” and they’re just there for a moment just looking and smiling at each other (THEY’RE FLIRTING SO MUCH WITHOUT SAYING ANY WORDS UGH TAKE ME 😩)

I am sat there genuinely believing that these are two teenagers who even though they know they’re not *supposed* to feel a way about each other, they still do. Like that scene is their confession to one another and it’s so sweet and genuine bc in that moment where Julie tries to hold his hand, they’re brought back to reality as to what they are and yet, they can’t help but still like one another and appreciate each other bc of what the other person has changed so much in their life.

AND THEN, that scene in the beginning of the last episode how Julie asks to talk to Luke (and Reggie and Alex immediately are like “oop leave them be 👀 they’re having a moment” being the greatest friends that they are) and they’re both standing there, in each others presence, it takes a moment for Julie to say what she wants to but they’re just two kids who ended up in each others lives and they know they like each other but they know they can’t act on those feelings yet they still just have this love for each other is so enduring and charming. The way Luke tells her “anything Julie you know that” MAKES ME MELT like ugh 😩 their dynamic and friendship has grown so much with each other from episode 1 to like now and it’s so just ugh it gets me

When I think how Juke could have been approached if we had gotten a chance, I would have loved to see the new like “glowing touch” development and how that would impact their dynamic. (I just imagine Reggie just hugs Julie all the time bc he can (he just seems like such a hugger and I feel like he’d give good ones🥺) and Alex also will gives her side hugs (they just take advantage of being able to physically touch her bc they don’t know how long they’re able to do it for with their new ghost development)) I feel like Luke and Julie would just be a bit apprehensive since the hand holding thing on the porch, and maybe their hug was just a one time thing.

Would have loved to see Carlos referring to Luke as “Julie’s boyfriend” (he was there for edge of great and stand tall THERES NO WAY he’s thinking anything of than “the sleeveless one is indeed my sisters boyfriend”) would be extra great too with like Luke being in the room and Carlos just says that and Julie quickly trying to make him not talk about it bc it’s embarrassing 💀 her just being like “Carlos, he’s a ghost” and him being like “…hey with you having a boyfriend are you going to have less time with Dad and I bc you’ll be busy kissing him?” And Julie’s face just goes pale as Luke takes the time to take himself out of room meanwhile his face his like bright red

Would have loved to see when Carrie’s redemption is happening and it’s Julie and Carrie and Carrie’s like “sooooo 👀 I’ve seen how you look at your guitarist” and she immediately tries to shut it down but Carrie is like “Jules, we may not have been that close in the past year and some but we’ve known each other for how long? I can see your tells!”

I just think a lot about how this ship, even though they’re not meant to like each other yet they do and still care about each other, would have been approached more if we got the chance

trying so hard to think of cute juke halloween thoughts but all i can actually think about is carlos hijacking the boys for halloween because he wants to create The Best scary haunted house to terrorise the neighbourhood and all his friends from school who dont believe in ghosts. and like. he's got 4 ghosts living in his garage. julie gets them all day every other day, he just wants to use them for a couple of hours to steal extra candy. reggie and willie are all in no questions askes. luke and alex have to be bribed. they accidently make tia victoria faint.

So I had this idea...

I know it's not Juke Jeudi, BUT I've had this idea floating around Discord for a WHILE and thought I'd throw it out here and see what my other friends thought!

The fic starts out in the middle of Nick's wedding vows to Julie.

"I Nick..." the pastor says

"I Nick..." he repeats

"Take you, Julie..."

"..."

"..."

"..."

Pastor clears throat

"Take you, Julie..." he repeats.

"Can't."

Basic jist after that? Nick and Carrie have been seeing each other behind Julie's back for months, and he chose THE MIDDLE OF THEIR WEDDING to tell her.

Julie is SO not amused.

"No, you know what?" she says, "This is fine." She turns to Carrie. "If he's willing to cheat with you, sweet pea, he's willing to cheat on you. Don't say I didn't warn you."

She glares at them. "You two need to leave. Now."

"Julie-" Nick starts.

"No, seriously. Go. And don't stop for the, 'Oh my gosh, we ran out of your wedding!' victory kiss either. You have exactly two minutes to peel out of here, because if I see either of you in the parking lot by the time I leave, I can't guarantee I won't hit you with my car."

They leave, and Julie takes herself downtown to the bar, still in her wedding dress. She gets pretty into the tequila and sees a cute blond guy down the bar from her. He reminds her just the vaguest bit of Nick (blond and blue-eyed seems to be a thing with her), moves to sit next to him, and asks him, "Do you think I'm pretty?"

He can tell she's toasted, so he plays along. "I think you're very pretty."

"Good. Wanna marry me? Because I'd really hate to waste this dress."

He laughs. "I would, but I can't lie to you, you're not quite my type."

She shrugs. "Apparently I'm not anyone's type. Otherwise, I wouldn't be sitting here getting super drunk instead of on a flight to Croatia for my honeymoon."

He holds up a hand, scared he's insulted her. "Hey, don't get me wrong. Were my situation different, you'd totally be my type. I definitely have a soft spot for long dark hair and a great tan."

Julie's still confused. "So what's the problem?"

He winces. "Um... Let's just say your chromosomes aren't paired quite right for me."

"Chromosomes..." Julie says to herself, her alcohol-fuzzed brain working overtime. Then it hits her. "Oooooooooh. You're gay."

"I am."

"So it's not me you're not attracted to. It's just women in general."

"You are correct."

"Oh. Well, at least you think I'm pretty."

"I think you're very pretty."

"Thanks... Um..."

"Alex. Name's Alex."

"I'm Julie."

They shake hands.

Eventually, Alex realizes Julie isn't sure where her car is anymore, and he can't get a hold of a Lyft or Uber (both apps are down). He can't very well leave her by herself (there are WEIRDOS out there), so he winds up taking her home with him.

She passes out on Alex's couch and doesn't remember anything after that.

In the morning, one of Alex's roommates, Luke, finds her and yells, "Alex, did you get married? To a woman??"

Shenanigans ensue.

kind of a Juke blurb, kind of JATP being a found family from a scene in a WIP I was working on & this no longer fits in the original WIP, but it’s too cute of a scene to never be shared. so here it is. happy juke jeudi!

“Oh man, I’m so excited to sleep in my own bed for a couple nights,” Reggie sighed, throwing himself down on the couch in the band’s dressing room.

“You mean you won’t miss sleeping in bunks with Alex and Luke?” Julie asked as she sat at the vanity to begin taking her stage makeup off.

“I mean I love cuddling as much as the next guy but nothing compares to my own bed,” Reggie said with a shrug before he braced himself for Alex’s incoming pillow.

“Julie is more fun to cuddle than you two anyway,” he said, pressing a kiss to Julie’s hair.

Alex looked unbothered as he carefully packed his drumsticks away. “Julie is a better cuddler than you anyway.”

Luke whipped around to meet his girlfriend’s gaze in the mirror. “Have you been cuddling other people that aren’t me?!”

His dramatics got another giggle out of her exactly as planned. “Sometimes they need a hug too,” she said innocently.

“They?! You’ve been cuddling Reggie too??”

“There’s a reason I didn’t object to either statement about Julie being the superior cuddle buddy of this band,” Reggie said from behind him.

Luke narrowed his eyes at her in the mirror again. “You’ve betrayed me.” He watched as she finished taking her makeup off and slowly shifted to get out of her chair. “Oh no you don’t!”

He pulled her up out of the chair despite her attempts to resist, and after a brief struggle—because Ray and Rose Molina did not raise a quitter—Luke threw her over his shoulder. “Say goodbye to your fellow traitors.” He turned so she could see Reggie and Alex.

“Bye fellow traitors,” she laughed. “See you in a few days.”

Reggie and Alex said their goodbyes before Luke stormed out of the dressing room with his girlfriend still giggling over his shoulder, only making feeble attempts to get down.

So Five fic recs for me...

Don’t Want to Miss a Thing from my Found Family Fluff series. One of the very first stories I wrote in this fandom. This is actually the 8th fic (there’s 11) in the series and there’s things I like about them all (of course) but It’s Alex’s pov and it’s just the four of them laying around in Julie’s room after her appendectomy because they can’t bear to leave her. They’re all touching in some way and it’s the first time they really notice the magical connection they have with each other. It’s just soft and sweet and I really love it.

The Truth is Finally Breaking Through – One-shot Julie and the Phantoms go on tour. I wrote this for the jatp big bang 2023 which technically got cancelled but me and my artist @beanomatica decided to keep working together and it’s the only art I have for a specific fic and it makes me so freaking happy! I also think the story is pretty funny and cute. It’s Juke of course but there’s povs from everyone.

It’s the End of the World as We Know it – The way this idea took over my life was so crazy. I don’t think I’ve ever written so much, come up with so much au, like it almost feels original (even though I’m borrowing from so many other things) I want to write more in this universe (I mean I have written some but those mostly feels like a continuation of this story) but I don’t have a clear plot yet. I hope it’ll come to me but for now…

Julie and Luke’s Book of Dares – This one rolled around in my head for nearly a year after I watched Dash and Lilly before I started writing it and making it jatp. It’s the only au I’ve done (so far) that is basically a retelling of something else and it was fun and challenging trying to keep both stories true to themselves and I’m pretty damn proud of it.

Love the Way You Love Me – Smuttiest thing I’ve ever written and I’m writing another rukebox explicit fic right now that’s twice as long and has WAY more sex in it and I’m still not sure it’s smuttier than this. I almost posted this annon but then decided I needed to just own it. I like to read all different kinds of genres and I like to write it too. It’s some damn fine smut if I do say so myself.

Please, I love them so much!! More people need to watch this drama. They all have their own differnt problems, that make life hard for them, but somehow they find each other (because Yeo Joon is very persistent and very lovable (and also, very traumatized)). Soo-Hyun is just the ultimate older brother. So-Bin is so sweet and I love her so much. (I also really love her roommates and their dynamic. I know they're not relevant right now, but I need to mention them when I'm talking about this drama.) I love them all as individual characters. And I love their dynamics. And I love them. I just love them so much. There's this one scene where the teacher asks themwho their role model is and Yeo Joon and So.Bin say it's Soo-Hyun and then they start listing things about him that are great and admirable, etc. And then after the class he asks them what that was all about and they say "We just love you". I got that vivid idea last night I can't write if my life so I asked someone else to write it but they don't write fir that ship it would mean a lot to me to see this fleshed out

hello! sorry i don’t really do requests anymore cause i’m nowhere near as motivated to write jatp fics, but here’s how i think this could pan out:

ok so julie being a backup dancer feels a little ooc for me in the way that i think she should always be the star of whatever she’s doing — and that although luke would be intrigued to see her cause she’s very Pretty, it wouldn’t be enough to fully captivate him. they both bonded over music and it’s how he fell for her so deeply

SO

my idea is that julie finds herself being a backup dancer with flynn and carrie because it was her only way to keep her promise: she still can’t bring herself to sing again after her mom’s death but rose made her promise to always be involved with music, to always have it in her life. so julie does the next best thing: she chooses to dance - she’s still surrounded by music all the time, it’s just slightly different to what she’s used to: she doesn’t sing

and maybe. maybe at this event/gig/festival that both luke and julie find themselves in, that’s where they first meet. i’m thinking that perhaps luke coincidentally walks past her backstage at some point before their performance and hears her hum a song (maybe one of theirs? maybe one by rose and the petal pushers?) and it peaks his interest cause 1. it’s his song (or a song by a legend called rose molina and he doesn’t often hear people listening to rose and the petal pushers) and 2. cause even with just the soft humming he can hear the quality of this girl’s voice

but before he can backtrack and approach her, maybe talk to her about music, he gets called over for sound check and then it’s just a busy day and he kind of forgets/lets it go

that is until later on when he sees the same girl dancing on stage and is a little surprised she isn’t the one singing — and shit, he also notices that she’s kinda cute too.

he’s Intrigued even more at this point. because he thinks he saw her look a little happier humming to a song backstage than she does dancing her heart out onstage

and now he wants to know more

cue him looking her up on instagram, and reggie and alex rolling their eyes at him. cue him going way back down her old posts until he stumbles on the earliest ones on her insta and it’s a short clip of her…singing

like singing singing. and now he’s sat there on their tour bus, mouth hanging open and heart beating in his throat because holy shit this is the most beautiful voice he’s ever hear

so he shoots his shot….and DMs her 👀

This was supposed to be a cute, nerdy headcanon for Reggie. It evolved into … something. Featuring a moment Juke at the end cause it's juke jeudi, and they keep worming their way into everything I write. But the Juke part can be ignored.

The moment Reggie digs up his old, chunky Nintendo Game Boy (the chunky grey one), he's filled with true joy. So after ransacking the Molina house for batteries, he flings himself onto the couch in the living room. He spends hours playing Mario, deeply concentrated, brows furrowed, and the tip of his tongue poking out between his lips. Meanwhile, Julie and Carlos are watching him, baffled by this ancient technology. (Like, how the **** is this thing still working after 25+ years?!)

Later, Ray enters the living room. He's horrified by the chaos Reggie caused when he hunted down the batteries -- Victoria won't be amused. But when he sees the Game Boy and hears the familiar melody of the game, he's hit by a wave of nostalgia. He suddenly buzzes with childlike excitement and sidles up to the couch to peek over the backrest.

Engrossed, he watches as Reggie maneuvers Mario through the level, hissing when an enemy is coming too close or balling his hand into a fist to appreciate a well-executed jump.

But eventually, they hear the unmistakable melody that pronounces Mario's death. Both groan and Reggie throws his Game Boy away, sulking.

Ray clears his throat, and Reggie jerks his head around, staring at Ray, wide-eyed.

"You know …," Ray ventures, uncertain if his advice is appreciated. "There's a secret passage right behind this wall?"

Reggie just keeps looking at him, blinking hard. For a moment, Ray fears he's gone too far with his advice. Then, without saying a word, Reggie picks up the Game Boy and restarts the game, testing Ray's suggestion. And sure enough, it works. He lets out a squeal of success, then leaps to his feet and throws his arms around Ray. Ray, perplexed, pats the boy's back.

And then Reggie literally drags Ray around the couch, forcing him to sit down, shoving the Game Boy into his hands, and they have the bestest of bonding moments ever!

(And Julie maybe has a minor mental breakdown because, once again, she's reminded of how old her boys would have been if they hadn't died.)

BONUS: JUKEBOX

Later, Luke and Alex show up. Luke's already displeased because Reggie and Julie are late for band practice. But as soon as Luke spies the Game Boy, he's seething with anger. Alex has to forcibly restrain Luke from launching himself at the bassist.

As the boys wrestle, worsening the chaos in the living room, Alex explains that, back in '95, Reggie was obsessed with his Game Boy. More than once, he ditched band practice to save virtual princesses. Naturally, Luke was extremely pissed. The last time it happened, he swore to set "That Damn Thing" on fire if Reggie ever missed rehearsal again.

"So," Julie says slowly, frowning at Luke, who is pinned to the floor after Alex used his height to his advantage. "You are jealous of a … a Game Boy?"

"No," says Luke.

"Yes," says Alex.

Julie just laughs, shaking her head in fond exasperation. As Alex and Luke bicker about the exact definition of jealousy and whether the term is applicable, she notices Carlos edging closer to the couch, too, clearly intrigued by the excitement the game is causing.

"Well," Julie says, "Since we're a bassist short today, we better postpone rehearsal. I think we can all make excellent use of some spare time."

She winks at Alex, who shoots her a smile, his cheeks turning pink.

"But it's Thursday," Luke protests indignantly. "We always rehearse on Thursday and …" He trails off when he registers the look of stunned disbelief on Julie's face. He blinks, confused. Then realization dawns on him, and his eyes grow huge.

"Oh …," Luke breathes out. Like an excited puppy eager for his walk, he jumps to his feet, knocking Alex over. He scurried over to Julie. "I think you're absolutely right."

In a gesture of mock chivalry, he offers her his arm, wiggling his brows suggestively, causing Alex to make a ratcheting noise before the drummer poofs away to search for Willie.

Julie lets out an undignified snort. Instead of accepting the offered arm, she leans forward and quickly pecks his lips. Bedazzled, Luke stares at her, and Julie cannot stifle the giggle that bubbles up inside her, which only intensifies the look of awe on Luke's face. An electrical spark runs down her spine, making her nerves tingle. She gently takes his hand, intertwining their fingers, and she leads him up the stairs.

(They both jump the last step. At the same moment, Mario lets out his characteristical joyful shout of success.)

Lookit you! Hallo and welcome to the book exchange! (you exchange one book for one of my ideas i probably will never get around to writing) I've been holding onto this ask for a good one though. something unique! and recently i watched a video on the internet (:P) that prompted a few versions of "make it juke" and idk. i'm pleased with them but honestly i don't have it in me to continue any of my wips at the moment, let alone start something new, so here you go!

College au. it's a college town and so a lot of houses are rented to students. The guys have a gig at a house party and after the set, a lot of the partygoers decided to play a neighborhood-wide game of hide and seek. So you have a rowdy group of drunk people running all over the place. (i don't know much about the traditional college experience but I feel like this could happen lol)

In one round, Reggie is one of seeker's and found Alex pretty quickly. but they've been wandering around for awhile and haven't seen anybody new and Luke isn't back with the group gathered in front of the party house. Seeing one of the houses has a camera doorbell, they decide to knock and see if the residents might be able to help them out.

Julie had been at the library studying when her phone started going insane with alerts about movement outside her house. then she gets the alert that someone is at the door so she moves to the stairwell to look at the live feed at the door. Seeing two guys around her age looking around, she turns the mic on just as they begin to walk away. They explain whats going on and ask if she can review the video footage and look for a guy in a cutoff shirt. They were polite so she chooses to help out. she reviews the footage from the timestamps of the original movement alerts. sure enough, she sees a guy in a cutoff and jeans running around the house and climbing into the recycle bin. Laughing, she lets the guys know and decides to sit and watch to see how this pans out, already formulating her story for Flynn later.

When she sees them open the lid, their friend is no longer running and he looks kind of grumpy as he stumbles out of the bin. but he's also kind of cute and now she feels kind of bad. as they walk past the front door again and she hears them telling him how they found him, and he walks up to the camera all "Not cool!" and now she has a real good view of him and before she can think it through she offers to make it up to him by buying him a milkshake or something.

He pauses before he accepts the offer because he recognizes her voice from a class he shares with her. a class that he constantly gets distracted in because of her.

OR

Same situation, but Reggie is the one hiding and Luke is the seeker. and he gets a bit distracted just hearing her speaking voice through the speaker and tries to hold a conversation instead of look for Reggie, but Alex keeps him on track. And in this one, he offers her a milkshake as thanks for helping out.

OR OR

HS au where the guys play at a party that gets the cops called on it. everyone SCATTERS and Luke gets separated from Alex and Reggie. Julie wasn't really doing the party scene ever since her mom died and was home alone, and when the cops come knocking, she doesn't feel like dealing with it directly so she talks to them through the doorbell.

but when they ask to see if she could see where one of the kids went, she looks and recognizes Luke. Not being a snitch, knowing he probably was just there as another opportunity for his band and not because of the underage drinking or drugs, she tells the cops she didn't see where he went. but now she is very alert and paranoid because she just lied to freaking cops! she keeps watching the live doorbell feed as the cops slowly move on.

eventually she notices Luke's friends and she wants to tell them but she is also rooted to her bed. (what if the cops come back and realize she was home the whole time?) so she "pssst" into the mic trying to get the boy's attention without being so loud it attracts the cops back, and it takes a few tries but eventually they cautiously walk up to the door. and Julie kind of knows them from school and does the unthinkable and gives her phone number and says "text me. it's about luke". Alex immediately is on his phone and texts her and she's like "he's in my recycling bin. get him out and lay low in the garage. it's unlocked"

I'm sure you know about most of my wips actually lol

But this one would have been another installment of my JATP as fairy tales series (currently including a Sleeping Beauty Juke AU and a Princess and the Pea Willex AU) and would have been a Snow White AU (you get exactly one guess who Snow White would have been)

So in this one Willie is Snow White (big surprise now) and Caleb his evil step-uncle you could say (I refuse to make evil!Caleb be directly related to Willie if avoidable). Classic story, Willie runs away, drama drama.

Now you're probably thinking, huh, the other boys as "dwarves". Wrong. Willie lands in a tiny tiny village in the woods and breaks into a house, where Julie and Flynn live, who are good witches. Alex, Luke, Reggie, and Bobby are there too, but they live in a different house in the village and are also not dwarves, just just some guys.

There's gonna be willex and a little boggie and juke potentially and a little Caleb drama, but with a pretty fairy tale ending.

I'm honestly not sure if and when I'm gonna write it, because I have other fics much higher on my priority list, but it's a nice AU to think about.

There's also and AU to the AU where Reggie is the sleeping beauty, Willie lives with Julie and Flynn, with a little less willex and a little more boggie. Both versions are pretty cute.

#omg it’s the- (you asked for it so no complaints now)#I guess I’ll start what got me interested in the first place bc I had already heard that Alex was gay and so I went into thinking ‘ok but#that’s going to be his only personality trait’ and then to watch it and then that not be the case was so incredibly nice to see and the fact#too that like kind of right away they give a boyfriend like again IT WAS SO NICE TO SEE

#one of the things I remember very clearly is just how I kept watching and I would think they would do certain cliches but then I’d get#proven wrong the next sentence that was spoke like with Carrie and Julie I was like ‘oh mean girl is mean to main character bc she’s mean#girl’ but then Nick says ‘you two used to be friends’ like him saying that adds so much layers to just these 3 characters bc it implies that#they all have this history with one another before we saw them like it just makes them feel so realistic and like they’re actual real people#like Jatp just blew my expectations out of the water bc of all these cliches we’re used to seeing and then they way it doesn’t do them is#just so different and so new

#also too I thought when I heard Alex is gay I thought it was like ‘fanon’ bc idk I’m just used to that but to have that not be the case#was so refreshing and lovely to see#I love the whole concept of how this girl who hasn’t been able to do anything music related since her mom passed gets stuck with these three#ghosts from a BAND like out of all ghosts she got stuck with them and for good reason <3#I love the way the songs are in the show like they’re there for storytelling purposes it’s so brilliant it’s not just they’re singing out of#nowhere like they’re there to tell a story and they make sense when they’re in corporated

#I love the how I can still go back even now and find something new to analysis like I know the ‘casual fan’ of Jatp won’t go back and find#these details and analysis them like how my brain does but it’s the details that are put into the show that make it worth analyzing

#god these characters- I love them all so much the way that Carries isn’t ‘just a mean girl’ that Flynn isn’t ‘just the best friend’#they way too that like with Juke how their friends treat it like Alex and Reggie look to each other whenever Luke talks about Julie like#that is so realistic to see like the fact that this guys friends are being like ‘👀👀👀’ whenever he mentions a girl who’s in their circle like#it makes them feel like real 17 year olds ya know like just guy friends who know their best bud is in love#same with Flynn the way that she calls out Julie’s crush in the first place and Julie is like ‘WHAT! no way he’s a ghost’ and then Flynn#still calls it out and Julie does admit ‘…with a perfect smile’ and ‘cute air’ like I feel like I just saw a convo between two best friends#about a crush also later when Flynn says ‘first off called it’ after Julie tells her about perfect harmony like again you get the impression#that these are two friends who have an interaction about the others crush who are talking about it IT FEELS SO REAL

#I love this cast so much I love their relationship and friendship it makes my heart so happy especially how in like late 2019 they were#posting about each other on socials before they ‘had’ to like it makes my heart so happy to see that they’re all like genuine friends#like I cannot watch behind the band episode 1 without just like like immediately sobbing bc you see the moment they got the news that they#got their parts and before they truly knew what magic they would make with this show they got cast in like omg

this was requested way too long ago but I’ve been in a severe writing slump so it took me too long 🥲 anyway, these prompts are from this post by @me-writes-prompts !! I thought I wanted to take requests but I quickly found out I do not have the bandwidth 😅 so here is a cute lil juke fic in the meantime! it is a mess but it is Juke so oh well. I also couldn’t choose one prompt so I did both and that’s why this is so long 😌

Julie would never get tired of this.

The sound of different voices overlapping and lots of laughter filled the room. She watched as her dad showed Willie the various features in his newest camera, Willie listening with rapt attention.

In the kitchen, Tía was bustling around and giving Reggie instructions as he tried to keep up with the many years of cooking some of the best meals Julie has ever tasted under her belt.

Flynn and Carlos were setting the table together, chatting about who knows what.

It’s become a tradition to spend their birthdays all together. One they’ve carried since they were kids—lost teenagers just trying to make it big in the music industry. Back when Julie met Luke, Reggie and Alex and they immediately became part of the Molina family which already consisted of her Dad, Carlos, Victoria and Flynn. Flynn introduced Alex to Willie and their family was pretty close to complete.

The warm rush of love that flooded her system was something she never got tired of.

And now as she watched their family get ready for her birthday dinner, Julie couldn’t be happier with the way her life was turning out.

She watched as Luke walked into the dining room, tapped Carlos on his left shoulder as he passed him, and swiped his finger through the frosting on the cake tía made.

Just as Luke successfully licked the frosting off his finger, Carlos caught on to Luke’s antics and it turned into both boys trying to put the other in a headlock.

Flynn rolled her eyes and continued setting the table but Julie could see a small, fond smile grace her face.

Luke ended up overpowering the younger boy, much to Carlos’s dismay but they both laughed as Luke let him get back to his task. It was when he took a step back and Julie could tell he was also surveying the room and the people he loved all in one space, that his eyes finally caught hers.

His smile is bright and soft at the same time, lighting up his features and simultaneously making her insides turn to mush.

“Mija, deja de mirar a tu novio,” Victoria called from the kitchen. “Your father and I need you in the kitchen, por favor.”

Julie felt her cheeks burn. She glanced back at Luke, his smile turning amused and he shot her a wink as she made her way into the kitchen.

But the light and airy feeling she got from Luke quickly dissipated when she saw her dad and aunt bent together talking seriously. It’s eerily reminiscent of a time she was still all too familiar with, the day her parents sat her down to tell her Rose was sick.

“Papí? What’s going on?”

“Julie! Nothing, mija,” Ray startled, waving a hand in the air. “We just wanted to talk with you.”

“Is everything okay?”

“Of course, sobrina,” Victoria assured her. “We’re just so proud of you and the woman you’ve become.”

“You’ve grown up so beautifully, and I know your mom would be so proud of you too,” Ray agreed. “Especially in the way you’ve formed a band with the boys and created a wonderful life for yourself.”

Julie nodded, their words comforting but also making her heart ache at the reminder of the many milestones her mother didn’t get to see. Where were they going with this?

“And we couldn’t be happier for you, that you’ve found such a wonderful partner in Luke,” Victoria said.

She smiled at the mention of Luke. “I’m glad you feel that way.” Julie glanced back and forth between them, still not quite sure what was going on. “Where are you two going with this?” It wasn’t entirely out of character for them to be saying any of this, but it seemed almost out of nowhere.

“Mija it’s your birthday, can’t your old dad get a little emotional?” Ray teased.

“My birthday was a few days ago,” she corrected with a teasing smile before she pulled them both into a hug. “I love you guys…. even when you act weird.”

They both chuckled before Julie pulled back and a hand sliding into place on the small of her back made her jump.

She turned to see Luke waiting for her, eyes sparkling with something she couldn’t decipher. “Hey Jules. Follow me?” He slipped his hand into hers without waiting for an answer (it was always yes and he knew that) and led her through the door to the backyard.

“Luke, what’s going on?”

“Have I told you how insanely talented I think you are?”

“Only when you’re deflecting,” she shot back, and the shit eating grin he sent her should’ve annoyed her, but it only made butterflies swoop in her belly.

“You mean you don’t want to write in the studio the way we used to?”

Julie raised a curious brow at him even as they continued to walk through the yard toward the gate that led to the garage turned studio. “Oh yeah? And what song are you working on?”

“A really special one,” he told her over his shoulder as they walked through the gate and made their way down the stairs. “I want your opinion on it.”

Julie remembered the countless times they made this exact walk as teenagers, when Luke would rush into her room or even up to her locker at school going on excitedly about a song or an idea he had.

Or the many times she snuck out here in high school because she knew Luke was taking refuge in the studio, away from his parents and the constant arguing that plagued their home.

Or any time he met her out there, all the band practices they had, writing sessions like he’d just mentioned, or when she missed her mom so much, Luke would bring her out here to cuddle up and talk or nap together. She always felt closest to her mom in the studio and to share so many wonderful memories of Luke and the boys there meant so much to her.

It truly was a magical, happy place for Julie and for their relationship.

Despite this, when they finally reached the doors and Luke pulled them open, Julie’s jaw still dropped in shock.

Twinkling lights were strung from the ceiling, just barely touching the chairs hanging from the ceiling. White sheets were draped around the studio to cover the walls, with numerous candles and flower petals scattered across every surface creating a warm glow from inside.

It was the most beautiful the studio had ever looked in her memory. She walked further inside, still in awe that Luke did it. It must’ve taken him so long to set it all up and find the time in between their recording schedule to sneak out here and put it together.

Julie turned toward the man in question only to find him down on one knee. “Luke,” she breathed, her hand covering her mouth. She shouldn’t be surprised. They’d both discussed marriage and their future and both agreed they wanted that together. She just didn’t think it was happening now.

He gently took her free hand and squeezed. “Julie, I have loved you since the minute I saw you sitting in the back of Harrison’s class sophomore year. And then you immediately called me out because I didn’t recognize a Paramore song another kid was performing.”

She giggled at the memory, remembering her outrage that Luke couldn’t identify Misery Business. “How can you be in a pop rock band if you don’t know Paramore??”

“I know now!” His eyes sparkled with amusement that matched her own. “Little did I know then that as soon as we became friends, it was over for me. You have made me a better person, a better writer and a better musician and I hope to continue to do the same for you. I can’t imagine living out my dreams with anyone else.” Luke reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box, carefully opening it to reveal a familiar, simple princess cut diamond ring.

It was her mother’s ring, glittering in the light of the studio and as beautiful as Julie remembered.

Her eyes flickered from the ring to Luke’s face. “How did you… where did you get this?” Even as the words left her mouth, she already knew the answer.

“Your dad said you’ve been eyeing this ring since you were old enough to talk,” Luke said as he plucked it from the box and held it up to her. “He knew your mom would want you to have it now.”

Julie felt tears prick the corner of her eyes, her grief attempting to make itself known once again. If only her mom was here, waiting inside the house with the rest of her family to celebrate with them. To plan the wedding, calm her nerves the day off, walk her down the aisle with her dad. But Julie knew her mom would be there with her, just like she always was. “If there’s a will, there’s a way,” Rose would always tell her.

Her dad and tía’s behavior suddenly made sense too. Why hadn’t she realized sooner??? She could be upset with Flynn for not clueing her in sooner…

But how could she feel anything but bone crushing, all consuming love for the man in front of her?

“I know you miss your mom, Jules,” he said, as if to prove the point she hadn’t even voiced out loud. “I know you wish she were here, and I do too. But the best I can do is to bring you here where I know you feel closest to her.”

Luke was her musical partner, her co-writer, her rock, her best friend, her comfort, and her home. She wanted all of him: the good and bad and whatever life threw at them. Julie wanted Luke by her side forever, and she was sure Rose would approve.

“Julie, baby,” Luke addressed her finally. “Will you marry me?”

She nodded as a few tears escaped down her cheek. “Yes! Yes, of course, I will.”

Luke’s grew so big she was sure it had to hurt his face. He slid the ring onto her finger before standing up to cup her face. “These are happy tears, yeah?” His thumb swiped them away.

Julie laughed, albeit shaky and nodded again. “Yes, Luke.”

“Good because otherwise me kissing you in a minute is gonna be a little awkward,” he joked before leaning in to capture her lips with his own.

She pulled back after a beat, pressing her forehead to his. “I love you too, you know.”

Luke’s eyes opened, glancing at her expression before a familiar smile takes over his face once more.

“What?” she asked, a mirroring smile blooming across her face.

“I’m just so in love with you. I can’t believe how lucky I am that I’m the Julie Molina’s fiancé.”

Her responding eye roll is lost in the mess of kisses Luke presses over her face.

1994

As 1994 begins Rose is back at square one with her music & happily single after what happened with Travis. Her best friend Kat seems to be moving on from the musical dreams Rose thought they both had shared. But a new band is on the horizon, that will bring new friends & new challenges. Victoria will be graduating high school & heading off to college allowing Rose to be a little more blunt in her letters.

1995

1995 starts out tragic & just when Rose starts to feel like things are starting to look up tragedy strikes again. This time leaving behind one sad teenage boy who Rose can’t help but take in. Victoria starts her second year of college & Rose calls on her for help to pull her new friend back from the edge.
