🇺🇸 The Argentine cinema and its relationship with the Jewish community has been essential since its beginnings. Since the early 20th century, Max Glücksmann made significant contributions to national cinema, creating the first Argentine film La bandera argentina alongside his partner Eugenio Py. The 1940s saw the rise of directors like Luis Saslavsky, who directed successful films like La fuga (1939) and La dama duende (1940). This period also saw the emergence of Jewish characters and themes in Argentine cinema, as seen in the film Pelota de trapo (1948), which reflected anti-Semitic stereotypes. Throughout the 1950s and 60s, directors such as León Klimovsky and David José Kohon continued to explore these themes with works like Suburbio (1954) and Prisoner of the Night (1960). In 1974, Juan José Jusid adapted Alberto Gerchunoff's work in Los gauchos judíos, telling the story of Jewish immigrants in Argentina. The film Mariposa (1985) also addressed themes related to Nazis and Jewish persecution. In recent years, Argentine cinema has continued to explore these topics, with films like Sol de otoño (1996) and Un crisantemo estalla en cinco esquinas (2007), which represent the continuity of Jewish themes in modern cinema. Furthermore, Antonio Botones is about to start filming Un amor en Moisés Ville, focused on the history of Jewish immigration to Argentina.

Jeffrey Epstein list: Harvey Weinstein and Sarah Ferguson named as more documents emerge
#Epstein #EpsteinList
A newly released batch of documents has named even more people connected to disgraced paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, including Prince Andrew's ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
It's the fifth batch of documents to be released after a New York judge ruled that court documents could be unsealed relating to a lawsuit brought about by Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre against Ghislaine Maxwell - the late financier's former girlfriend. The latest round of documents were released just hours after a third and fourth were also made public on Friday.
In this latest round, almost 100 more files were released, naming convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein, Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson and others. More documents are expected to be released in the coming days and weeks, giving a glimpse into the life of Epstein and his long-running campaign of abuse of young girls.
A number of famous names have appeared in documents so far, including Prince Andrew, Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, Cameron Diaz and David Copperfield. However, the naming of individuals in these documents does not necessarily indicate any wrongdoing or implicate them in Epstein's crimes.
The latest round of documents included excerpts of testimony from those who worked for Epstein, along with copies of phone messages he received, including one from Harvey Weinstein, and a number of legal memos from lawyers discussing who could have potentially been called as a witness if the lawsuit went to trial.
The records released relate to a defamation lawsuit Ms Giuffre filed in 2015 against Maxwell, who was accused by multiple women of helping Epstein to recruit underage women and girls who would be taken to his homes in New York, Florida, and on his private island in the US Virgin Islands, where they were sexually abused. Ms Giuffre sued Maxwell after she branded Ms Giuffre a liar over her claims she had been sexually abused as a minor.
The suit between Ms Giuffre and Maxwell was settled in 2017, with Maxwell later being prosecuted for her part in the sex trafficking conspiracy and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Maxwell released a statement on Wednesday night after the first batches of documents were unsealed. In it, she continued to protest her innocence with her attorneys Arthur Aidala and Diana Fabi Samson vowing to carry on at full steam with her appeal.
"Ghislaine Maxwell took no position on the Court's recent decision to unseal documents in Giuffre v Maxwell as these disclosures have no bearing on her or her pending appeal," said her lawyers in a statement. "Ghislaine's focus is on the upcoming appellate argument asking for her entire case to [be] dismissed. She is confident that she will obtain justice in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. She has consistently and vehemently maintained her innocence."
One name that has repeatedly cropped up in relation to the documents is the Duke of York, Prince Andrew. Epstein's former housekeeper has claimed the Duke spent "weeks" at Epstein's Palm Beach, Florida, home, court documents have revealed.
Juan Alessi said both Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, were friends with both Epstein and Maxwell. A videotaped interview of Mr Alessi under oath in 2009 was released on Friday in the latest wave of documents.
During his interview, Mr Alessi was questioned on the relationship between the Duke and Duchess and Maxwell and Epstein. In it, he claimed Sarah Ferguson was "friends" with Epstein, and visited once for a "short time".
"I think Sarah was there only once and for a short time," Mr Alessi said in the video. "I don't think she slept in there. I cannot remember. I think she was visiting Wellington and she came to the house and we met her."
Among the records unsealed on Friday were copies of phone messages received by Epstein, handwritten by staffers, in 2004 - a year before police in Palm Beach, Florida, began investigating allegations the millionaire was paying underage girls for sex. While the phone messages didn't appear to contain any huge bombshells, they did give an insight into Epstein's associations with big names in both politics and Hollywood.
At the time of the calls, Epstein was associating with the rich and powerful, offering free rides on his private jet, later dubbed the 'Lolita Express' to names including former President Bill Clinton and actor Kevin Spacey. One message regarding a missed call said Harvey Weinstein had been on the phone trying to contact Epstein.
Weinstein, at that time a force in Hollywood, was- once part of a media investment group that included Epstein. Weinstein's spokesman, Juda Engelmayer, said: "At the time, Epstein was seen as a wealthy power broker with access to many people of various industries and for many reasons.
"It wasn't uncommon for people of that calibre to talk, as we see from the lists that have been coming out. There was and remains nothing more to that."
Years later, Weinstein was involved in his own sex scandal and ultimately ended up being charged with raping and sexually assaulting women in the entertainment business. He is currently serving lengthy prison terms after being convicted in both New York and Los Angeles.
Epstein also had several messages regarding missed calls from Jean-Luc Brunel, a French modelling agent who was close to Epstein. Brunel was awaiting trial on charges of raping underage girls when he killed himself in a Paris jail in 2022.
Independent presidential hopeful Robert F Kennedy Jr has said in recent months that he had flown on Epstein's plane, but said he was not concerned that information from the unsealed documents would impact his public image. Speaking on NewsNation's Dan Ambrams Live on Wednesday night, he said: "I like what's happening today.
For all the latest on news, politics, sports, and showbiz from the USA, go to The Mirror US
"I like the fact that all these papers are being released. I've been an advocate for transparency. I think the government keeps too many secrets. I think it's important for the American public to know whether Jeffrey Epstein had some kind of corrupt influence on public officials or any public figure."
During an appearance on Fox News in September, Mr Kennedy revealed he had flown on Epstein's private jet on two occasions. Giving more information on Wednesday, he clarified the first plane ride took place in 1993, when he visited his mother in Palm Beach. He added: "Remember, nobody knew anything about Jeffrey Epstein's nefarious activities 'til 2006.
"My wife knew his girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell and they offered us a ride when we were going to see my mother. I was with two children and my wife on the plane at that time, I knew nothing about Jeffrey Epstein."
Mr Kennedy said he accepted a second plane ride a year or two later when he took his children fossil hunting on the pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. He said: "I hope everything that is known about Jeffrey Epstein comes out.
"I think it's odd that they have not - that Congress has not been able to subpoena and I've been an advocate for making sure that the government is transparent about everything, including every document, everything that is known about Jeffrey Epstein."
Epstein was jailed in July 2019, killing himself a month later in August before his federal trial began. The people listed in the Epstein files were those named as associates of Epstein and there is no suggestion those listed either knew about his crimes or participated in any criminal behaviour.
Prince Andrew has been named dozens of times in the files. The documents – part of a case against Epstein’s girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell – have thrust Andrew back into the spotlight. They do not reveal any new allegations about Prince Andrew, Epstein or his associates.

In third batch of Epstein documents, a call from Harvey Weinstein, more famous men and disquieting details
The third round of documents from a lawsuit connected to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted pedophile who died in jail before he could face trial on federal sex-trafficking charges, was publicly released Friday.#Epstein  #EpsteinList #Epsteinadasi #EpsteinClientList EpsteinIsland EpsteinFiles EpsteinDocs
Friday’s release included over thirteen hundred pages as of mid-afternoon, and it follows hundreds of pages of documents already unsealed on Wednesday and Thursday, with more expected.
The unsealed documents are part of a 2015 civil defamation suit brought by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, an American woman who claimed Epstein sexually abused her as a minor and that Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former girlfriend, aided in the abuse. The unsealing this week stems from a December 18 court order from the judge overseeing the lawsuit, a response to media’s legal efforts to publicly release the documents.
The documents in total, including material yet to be unsealed, are expected to include nearly 200 names, including some of Epstein’s accusers, prominent businesspeople, politicians and potentially more.
CNN is reviewing the documents.
Famous friends and acquaintances
A former Jeffrey Epstein employee recounted a litany of famous and influential people, including two former presidents, in Epstein’s orbit during a 2009 deposition unsealed on Friday.
Juan Alessi told attorneys that he had dinner with former president Donald Trump in the kitchen of Epstein’s Palm Beach home and met former president Bill Clinton on Epstein’s plane. He also said he met Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, at the Palm Beach home, according to the deposition.
Alessi also said he met foreign beauty queens and an unnamed winner of a Nobel Prize in Chemistry, according to the document.
When asked on Wednesday about the appearance of Clinton’s name in an earlier batch of unsealed documents, a Clinton spokesman reiterated a 2019 statement that Clinton had flown on Epstein’s private plane but said Clinton knew nothing of the financier’s “terrible crimes.”
The spokesman said that it has now “been nearly 20 years since President Clinton last had contact with Epstein.” Clinton has not been accused of any crimes or wrongdoing related to Epstein.

Trump has also not been accused of any crimes or wrongdoing with regard to Epstein. When asked earlier this week about Trump’s name appearing in the newly unsealed documents, a Trump spokesman reacted by attacking the media.
Alessi also spoke about the young women who came to the house to give Epstein massages.
Alessi answered questions about one female whom he understood to be under the age of 18. Her name was still redacted from the unsealed documents. Alessi said her mother would occasionally accompany her to Epstein’s home.
In terms of payment, “everybody got $100 an hour,” Alessi said.
Famed magician and illusionist David Copperfield is also among the high-profile men identified as a friend to Epstein.
Copperfield’s name is mentioned during deposition testimony released Friday of one of Epstein’s then-employees, Sarah Kellen. A lawyer for the plaintiffs asked about Epstein’s relationship with the illusionist and whether they recruit girls for each other. The lawyer questioned if Copperfield gives tickets to Epstein for young women when he is performing shows and if the girls are invited backstage after the shows.
To all questions, Kellen asserts her Fifth Amendment right and refuses to answer the question.
Copperfield is also named in a 2016 deposition released Wednesday by a woman who massaged Epstein for years in the early 2000s. She said she met the illusionist at a dinner at Epstein’s Palm Beach residence and testified it was her observation the two were friends.
Johanna Sjoberg testified in the deposition that Copperfield performed magic tricks while he was at the Palm Beach House and asked her what she knew about Epstein’s methods for procuring girls to work for him.
“He questioned me if I was aware that girls were getting paid to find other girls,” Sjoberg said.
Copperfield didn’t elaborate at the time, Sjoberg said.
She also said there was another girl at the house that “seemed young” at a dinner that included Copperfield. She recalled thinking at the time that the girl could have been in high school.
CNN has reached out to representatives for Copperfield for comment.
The name of disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein appears in a 2005 handwritten note left for Epstein as well.
Tumblr media
An unsealed legal document in a civil case related to Jeffrey Epstein shows a handwritten phone message saying Harvey Weinstein called. A close-up of that message is seen here. From Exhibit in Epstein-related litigation
Brad Edwards, Giuffre’s lawyer at one point, wrote a book titled “Relentless Pursuit: My Fight for the Victims of Jeffrey Epstein,” released in 2020, in which he discusses Weinstein’s involvement in Epstein’s world. Edwards wrote that Epstein told a victim he would introduce her to Weinstein. In another excerpt, Edwards wrote Epstein ended his relationship with Weinstein after he acted too aggressively with one of his “favorite girls.”
There is no implication of wrongdoing by Weinstein in connection to Epstein in the documents.
CNN has reached out to an attorney for Weinstein.
Weinstein, 71, remains in prison after being convicted on sex crimes charges in New York and California linked to allegations that he used his influence to lure women into private meetings, assault them and then silence any accusations.
Disquieting documents
Some of the documents are unsettling.
In a newly unsealed excerpt from a deposition of Nadia Marcinkova, an Epstein assistant who was accused in civil lawsuits of having perpetrated abuse alongside Epstein, an attorney asked her: “Were you with Jeffrey Epstein on his birthday when one of his friends sent to him 12 – sorry, three 12-year-olds for the purposes of Jeffrey Epstein sexually abusing them?”
He then asks if “these three 12-year-olds were from France. Were they sent to him on his birthday by Jean Luc Brunel or by somebody else?”
Marcinkova invoked the Fifth Amendment to that question and throughout her deposition, which includes multiple still-redacted names.
Brunel, a French modeling scout, died in a jail cell in 2022 while under investigation by French authorities for his ties to Epstein.
Virginia Giuffre has also recounted the story of 12-year-olds being sent to Epstein in her own court depositions.
Previous document releases included information about Epstein’s associates and accusers, though much of the information had previously been reported on by various media outlets or released through other court proceedings.
Giuffre and Maxwell settled their civil suit in 2017, but some court documents remained sealed until now.
Most of the documents from the suit were unsealed in 2019 – one day before Epstein died by suicide in jail.
Epstein was indicted in 2019 on federal charges of operating a sex trafficking ring in which he allegedly sexually abused dozens of underage girls.
Epstein died in jail while awaiting trial. Prosecutors in New York indicted Maxwell on sex trafficking charges involving multiple victims. She was convicted in 2021.
This story has been updated with additional developments.

Correction: An earlier version of this story misidentified the lawyer questioning Nadia Marcinkova, as well as Marcinkova’s relationship to Epstein. She was an Epstein assistant.

Jeffrey Epstein list: Harvey Weinstein and Sarah Ferguson named as more documents emerge

The third round of documents from a lawsuit connected to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted pedophile who died in jail before he could face trial on federal sex-trafficking charges, was publicly released Friday. #Epstein  #EpsteinList #Epsteinadasi #EpsteinClientList EpsteinIsland EpsteinFiles EpsteinDocs
Famous friends and acquaintances A former Jeffrey Epstein employee recounted a litany of famous and influential people, including two former presidents, in Epstein’s orbit during a 2009 deposition unsealed on Friday.
The handwritten note, dated March 1, 2005, appears to be a telephone message left for Epstein that Weinstein attempted to call Epstein that morning. “She had on the phone Mr. Harvey Weinstein,” the message reads. It was included among nearly 200 written phone messages.
An unsealed legal document in a civil case related to Jeffrey Epstein shows a handwritten phone message saying Harvey Weinstein called. A close-up of that message is seen here. An unsealed legal document in a civil case related to Jeffrey Epstein shows a handwritten phone message saying Harvey Weinstein called. A close-up of that message is seen here. From Exhibit in Epstein-related litigation Brad Edwards, Giuffre’s lawyer at one point, wrote a book titled “Relentless Pursuit: My Fight for the Victims of Jeffrey Epstein,” released in 2020, in which he discusses Weinstein’s involvement in Epstein’s world.
Disquieting documents Some of the documents are unsettling.
Contributing: CNN’s Riley Gutiérrez McDermid, Kara Scannell and Curt Devine.

Epstein #EpsteinList #Epsteinadasi #EpsteinClientList EpsteinIsland EpsteinFiles EpsteinDocs
