Jane the Virgin 3x04 Chapter Forty-Eight
Stray thoughts
1)   I usually cut Xiomara some slack, but this whole flashback where “Jane leaves the nest” because her mother just got a new boyfriend and is taking her kid to leave with him? Yeah, that makes her look bad, in my opinion. It’s one of those things that the show does to shoehorn a theme and make it relevant throughout Jane’s life… but it makes it look like Xiomara took her kid to live at a stranger’s house because he had a pool? If he had been a significant person in their lives, we surely would’ve heard about him before, right?
Other than that, I think it’s an interesting premise to dive into how Jane leaving will affect everyone else.
2)   Rogelio wants to star in one of those Hallmark Christmas movies that my mom loves watching and that make me cringe so badly in order to raise his American profile, and is this the right move for you, Rogelio, my dude? I don’t think so. There must be some other way.
3)   What is this douchebag turning the Marbella into, for fuck’s sake?
Tumblr media
4)   Anezka/Petra just told Jane she doesn’t like her and never has, and it kind of feels good?
Tumblr media
Are you really that surprised, Jane?
5)   So… Petra’s silent contribution to Jane’s rent could be the thing that reveals “Petra” is actually Anezka, right? I mean, Petra is the one who made the deal and Anezka has no idea about it – just like she didn’t know about the argument between Jane and Petra had before the wedding – and hence, she hasn’t been paying Jane’s rent. If she’s confronted about it, though, she could pretend and say she just stopped paying because of the argument, right? How long can they keep Petra paralyzed, though? How come no one realizes Petra is not really Petra? To be honest, if I was her, I’d feel terrible knowing literally NO ONE notices I’m gone.
6)   Truer words have never been spoken…
Tumblr media
7)   First, Rob Lowe. Now, Rafael. Rogelio’s ego is getting destroyed lately.
8)   Was that… a spark?
Tumblr media
By the way, no wonder both Jane and Xiomara are so entitled and somewhat irresponsible. Alba just brought an old lady in a wheelchair to the Marbella just because she fancied seeing her granddaughter. Sure, lady, suit yourself. Do whatever you want while you’re on the clock.
9)   She’s not wrong.
Tumblr media
Of course she should be supportive, but I honestly can’t think of a more ill-fitted job for Xiomara than bank teller. I give her a day.
10) It’s America, so it sounds legit.
Tumblr media
11) Jane was close to figuring it out when “Petra” said she bought the house when in fact she rented it, but then she pulled the “I stopped paying because of our fight.” Instead of getting busted, she got an invite to Jane and Michael’s housewarming party.
12) On the plus side, Magda’s prison buddy just showed up and pressured Petra into following through with their plan and sell the Marbella shares or else she’ll reveal her true identity. Anezka is not an idiot, though, she couldn’t have managed to full everyone FOR MONTHS if she were.
13) So… now that Petra’s not paying half of their rent, Michael and Jane have to cut their budget to pay for those thousand bucks. After a lot of debating, Jane suggests they should just go ask Rogelio for the rest, promising to pay him back. And while I think that’s okay, I feel it’s a bit OOC for Jane to come to that decision so quickly. She’s very proud and doesn’t like asking for help, especially when it comes to money. Although… since she’s rubbing shoulders with Rafael and Rogelio she’s occasionally taken advantage of the good life they can provide for her, so there’s also that. Is it OOC or is it completely in character?
14) Okay, now that Petra has told Rafael that she wants to sell her shares, he’s starting to notice there’s something fishy.
Tumblr media
YES!
Tumblr media
….
15) Weird dinner party does not go well, shocks no one.
16) Not only did Xiomara last only a day, but she actually pretended to like the job before admitting to her mother that she was right. But she’s not even good at pretending because she got caught immediately, and humiliatingly. Regardless, all I can think is about the poor old lady being wheeled around the city because Alba just doesn’t give a fuck about her job.
17) Michael figured Jane lied to him about one of the items on their budget, and to be frank, I’m on his side? Jane is keeping information from him as if he was a child who can’t manage his own money, but he’s got a point. She’s been living at her grandma’s house her whole life, her dad pays for her school, Rafael covers most of Mateo’s expenses, and she “survives” on what I can only assume is a part-time job – since she’s barely at the Marbella. So she might not agree with his filing system, but he’s definitely had more experience being financially independent than she has.
18) Ouch! Jane turned down Scott’s bribe, but Lina took it? Behind Jane’s back? And screwing everyone over because of it? That’s awful!
19) OMG Rogelio is babysitting the moron and why are we having these two interact with each other just now?
20) I really enjoyed the scenes where fantasy young Jane helped Alba navigate her relationship with Xiomara since she always was the glue that stuck that family together. I think the writers nailed this one. It was a great way to show that despite Jane not living with them anymore, her influence lingers, and they both have become better persons because of it. That’s a lasting impact that doesn’t simply go away.
It led to Xiomara and Alba having one of their most honest and mature conversations in a while – Alba encouraging Xiomara to take her time finding out what she likes and Xiomara encouraging Alba to go look for her own passion now that she has her green card.
21) Is Rogelio going to help the moron or break her? Either way, I’m in!
22) Rafael is getting slightly assaulted, isn’t he?
Tumblr media
23) Both, I think. He’s breaking her to help her. I hope.
I'm a terrible sister and that's why I want to drink, so that I don't feel this. (…) Because all I do is cause Rafael pain. And I think my ex-lover killed his mother. (…)  I just feel so bad, you know? My brother doesn't deserve this. No matter how many times I've failed him, he's always been there for me. And then now that he has no family, I still can't pull it together and be there for him.
Leave it to Rogelio to make me not only tolerate the most unlikable character in this show but also feel for her.
That being said, I can understand that this is why she wants to drink now, but there must be another reason why she started drinking in the first place.
24) Why do I continue to be surprised at Rogelio being the best character in this whole show? Not only did he give the moron the best advice anyone has ever given her (“Put on your own oxygen mask before assisting others.”) but he also helped her decide to go to preventative rehab. And then! He told Rafael that he truly is a good person and that he should’ve seen that earlier. And after Rafael told him he was probably not getting the part in the Hallmark movie, he simply shrugged it off and said that Rafael was more important than that. I just want to hug Rogelio forever, he’s such a lovely, wholesome man!
25) It’s not a telenovela without a catfight, right?
Tumblr media
26) Jane and Michael finally decided to move to a smaller place until they can actually afford to move back to a bigger one. And then the narrator dropped this bit of foreshadowing…
And friends, they really believed that would happen... but we're not there yet.
Ugh, what does this mean? Will they break up? Will Michael die for real? Please tell me Jane is not getting back together with Rafael because I will culcutabitch! What other reason could there be for them not to follow through with their plans?
27) Okay, Alba just got a job at the gift shop, so I’m guessing the spark I saw is actually there.
28) “Angels guard the sun”. Those are the words that were underlined in the Bible Rafael’s mother was clutching when she was murdered. I will not try to figure this one out, but I hope it’s something smart.
29) Anezka is fucking ruthless. She demanded Rafael give her permission to sell her shares AND that he sign his own shares over to her.
30) FINALLY!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ya think?!
But... Of all the things, this is what gave her away? Okay, I guess…
31) While I don’t feel this is one of the most iconic episodes of this show, it was still pretty enjoyable. I especially liked the Xiomara/Alba scenes and development as well as everything Rogelio as always, particularly how he managed to be the first person to make the moron seem human. I’m very excited at the prospect of having Petra back, although I have no idea how they’re going to give closure to the whole Anezka/Magda plot. We’ll see what happens!
32) Hope you enjoyed my recap, and, as usual, if you’ve got this far, thank you for reading! If you enjoy my recaps and my blog, please consider supporting it on ko-fi. Thanks!

Welcome to this week’s JTV recap via my emotions. (Chapter 77 spoilers ahead.)
UGGGGGGHHHHH
Let me process everything rn because I can’t even.
First of all, freakin Petra in that blue dress will be the absolute death of me.
Cringeworthy Petra trying to be seductive is cringeworthy. But I love it.
Cringeworthy Petra’s voice cracking when she’s nervous and getting shut down by JR is absolutely heartbreaking and somebody needs to protect this precious baby.
Goddamn you JR, goddamn you. Have you no soul??? (and why must you be so fine)
Finally, finally, our puppy Luisa has returned! Ugh, I can’t stress enough how much I missed Yara’s comedic performances, and we all know her character deserves more. Missed the hilarious dynamic she had with Rose. But more than anything, love that this episode kind of set things right again, between her and Rafael, and also allowing people to sympathize with her. Because Luisa deserves better. (Obviously the Roisa tension might start up again based on the prison scene w/ Rose, but, at least I feel comforted by the fact that the writers are trying to redeem her.)
Man, this episode was pretty gay huh? Why can’t it be like this all the time?
Uhmmm, Petra being a fucking sweetie and dressing up for Matteo??????????????? If this isn’t character development, I don’t know what is.
Need to highlight: moment when Luisa says, “And I realized, I still had someone who cared about me. Not my mom. My stepmom.” The face that Jane makes right after that scene is PRICELESS. Gina Rodriguez, you are a gem.
Happy Luisa makes me happy.
Also… FREAKING KRISHNA ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. So it’s over, just like that? Case closed? No murders involved for once? Let me release the breath I’ve been holding for the past month.
UGH these two are killing me. Goddammit JR why you gotta be so cruel to sweet Bi Mess Petra. This is NOT the end.
On a more serious note…... the whole thing with Xo… Ugh, I knew, I knew she was lying when she got the call. That last scene with the family praying together… I just… I’m speechless. This is why I love JTV. Because once in a while, they hit us with absolutely moving, breathtaking scenes like that. In that moment, I was praying for her too.
How on earth am I supposed to wait a week.

Jane the virgin made me cry in such a positive way tonight
Alba learning to be brave and Jane teaching Mateo the same thing was so beautiful everyone should watch it
Ro and Xo got engaged again and I think it’s for real this time. Also the reversed gender roles of Xo giving the ring it was so romantic cos it really shows how their relationship has developed!
Do you know what, I don’t care if they’re super problematic and will def end in tears cos since bae is dead they’re probably heading for jafael endgame but fuck I ship rafael and Petra! He’s the only man I’ll ship her with cos their aesthetic (srsly everyone on this show is ridiculously attractive) the flirty chemistry, the angst! Gah this show will kill me! (other thoughts) (Also chuck is another bad older man that petra should not be dating. What a shocker)
My god, Lina and Jane. The tears. I’m so proud of them. The scenario seemed like it was going to fall apart (we’ve all been there in real life) but this is jtv so unless you’re not the biological parents then you’re probably going to have a happily ever after.
I’m glad Fabian read 1984 but i still think that the longer the relationship goes on the more likely it will end in tears.
Rogelio standing up to Alba! Them speaking in spanish! Alba understanding! Alba looking after Jorge! This episode was amazing!
Tl;dr this is the first episode since the thing that it’s felt like jtv we are truly blessed

JtV Chapter 100 Semi-liveblogging
I actually had no intention of liveblogging, so I only have some thoughts, also I have my bingo partially filled out, I actually didn’t pay attention fully. UNDER THE CUT spoilers obvi
Xo not moving inspired by her actress, (okay this later does not become true)
I should have put grilled cheese on the bingo card
Legit surprised they did remember who Ellie and Anna were.
Narrator hinted at the wedding being a bit of a disaster. It's true, I didn't predict Raf in jail
OH my GOSH SELF-INSERT INDEED, I bet all lost your minds and made that joke live (In ref to Jennie being the water cup lady)
Oh no I love the bus story came in,
The Other Extras not allowed to barter because then they would be paid more for having speaking roles
Glad Jane is spending money
I should have put Inhala Exhala on my bingo
Well we knew JR would be back, framing Raf as a hero is, hmmm, they’re like grasping at straws, but okay. That was nice of him. But... just like loving looks doesn’t mean they’re gonna work out great. Like we have no idea what their future looks like
Una Flor, thank God
oh he says it in a english accent, which was uncomfy, hahaha, okay.
That was lowkey highkey a cop out so they didn't have to write vows
Jane Breaking the Fourth wall, how do I feel
So I guess a lot of us were right in Mateo being the narrator but also it’s like a mix of his voice and Jane’s as the author so...yeah that was the vast majority, I know they made it obvious in recent episodes but *shrug*
We’re never gonna know who changed their mind about kids....
Luisa, was... a character that existed.
I think I love the cast to be too mad right now, also I love weddings like a sucker, so more thoughts incoming I’m sure, but I might stay out of the general tag for a bit.
--
My bingo
Tumblr media
Red x’s are legit, Orange x’s are like, sorta almost true. Also I did not count recaps for this one.
Orange explanation: There was a timeskip for jane to write her book. They said “straight out of a telenovela” with no ‘right’ but that’s pretty much legit, Luisa writing? No comment, but debatable. They did bring up his parents, she didn’t “show up” though. And yeah. mmmm.
--
Yeah, so overall, not bad. Since we sort of new what we were going to be given.

Jane the Virgin 3x03 Chapter Forty-Seven
Stray thoughts
1) I really hope this is not another bait...
Tumblr media
There’s so much buildup that I wonder if this is going to be disappointing. Or if it will even happen at all…
Tumblr media
Well, we’re back to where they got the go-ahead from the doctor, but...
2) People keep interrupting them, and I just wonder why Jane won’t just be open about it and tell her mom, dad, and grandma that they want some privacy to finally get laid!
3) “If you weren’t a singer, what would you be?”
Tumblr media
It’s an interesting question indeed, considering she’s not really a singer and she hasn’t done much with her life so far. It’s a weird question to be asking yourself when you’re pushing forty, right? But I guess Xiomara always followed her impulse and that’s how she led her life, there wasn’t really much time to think about what she wanted to do. I’m kind of curious to see where they go with this.
4) New character, I guess?
Tumblr media
So, this is Cecilia, Alba’s sister and the one responsible for telling everyone Alba wasn’t a virgin on her wedding day.
5) Oh, thank god!
Tumblr media
I found the whole “You and I finishing at the same time” comment… odd? And tbh, Jane doesn’t look very satisfied. But at least she got it over with! Of course, he fell asleep right after, and it doesn’t feel as magical as she’d expected, I guess. But I mean, why should it? Expectations about the first time having sex should be very low, but culturally women are raised to make this huge deal of their “first time” and “losing their virginity”, and it’s very difficult to shed those expectations, right?
6) OMG she’s sending a sex tape of her first time with her husband to her advisor!
But… the most important question is, is she going to watch that video? Will Michael and Jane watch it? Will they do a play-by-play analysis? Will he notice that she didn’t really come?
7) “It was actually my first time” “Oh, that explains things…”
Well, the advisor (I’m sorry, can’t remember her name!) made it out to look like she was talking about her writing – which she might well have been – and how it was lacking something. I think I’ve actually mentioned this before, but It’s kind of odd for Jane to be a romance writer and to be writing sex scenes without actually having experienced sex herself. The advisor makes a good point – romance without sex is just fantasy. And I’m not saying that you can’t have romance if you’re asexual. But that’s not the type of stories Jane is writing or the audience she’s writing for. Anyway, I think the advisor was actually talking about her performance in the tape and not her writing. Or maybe both.
8) I knew it.
Tumblr media
And of course, her friend tells her NOT TO TELL MICHAEL, and I’m like, huh? I just wish this would stop being a storyline? Both the faking and the not-talking to your partner about your feelings regarding the sexual experiences you share with them. Not having an orgasm is just part of the sexual experience and there’s nothing wrong with it, and sex can still be enjoyable even when you don’t have an orgasm. So let’s see where they take this storyline. I’m guessing Michael is going to be super supportive, and will try to make it up to her.
9) Why is this still a thing in this show? We get it, Luisa is a fucking moron, and she makes terrible decisions. I wish there was more to her character than that.
Tumblr media
10) And I know that we crave representation for LGBTQ+, but… Rose is a fucking psycho? And this is almost a textbook abusive relationship? She’s literally kidnapped Luisa, isolated her, and keeps telling her how she’s alone and Rose is the only one there for her. (and I’m not even touching on the whole murderer/drug lord thing because that’s just part of the zaniness of this show.)
11) Okay, Xiomara is considering moving on from singing, but move on to what?
12) I genuinely laughed at this.
Tumblr media
13) Okay, I liked this joke.
JANE: What’s the CW? Like a streaming thing? ROGELIO: No, no! It’s a huge network! Look it up! Amazing shows! Fabulous line-ups!
Anyway, Jane is very intent on manipulating her mom into finding her passion for singing again, and I don’t know how I feel about this. Yes, Xiomara loves singing, but what is wrong with giving up? She hasn’t really made it, and there are other things she might be passionate about that she hasn’t figured out yet because she’s been pursuing her “singing career.” I know Jane is trying to be supportive, but if she truly were, she would just try to help her mom to find what other avenues she can pursue instead of tormenting her with her unfulfilled dreams. It just feels like another thing Jane does because it’s what she wants rather than being selfless and thinking of others.
14) See? This is why you should be honest with your partner about your orgasms or lack thereof…
Tumblr media
At least it led to an honest conversation. Which led to this…
Tumblr media
15) I’m loving this Cecilia character. I kind of wish she was the leading lady, actually. She’s so fun, even if she’s a figment of Jane’s imagination!
16) Rogelio is selling his show to the CW, but Rob Lowe will be the leading man, not him. I see how this could easily lead to an existential crisis for Rogelio, but I have so much faith in him, he’ll probably take it in stride and turn into a bigshot Hollywood producer.
17) Hm. Day two and Jane is already trying to spice up their sex life? This doesn’t bode well. And Michael is telling her not to discuss their glitch with anyone to protect his fragile ego? Because he tells her she can say they had sex, but that she shouldn’t mention how it wasn’t good? Double hm. And now Jane is with Xiomara, someone who could actually help her get out of her head and understand what she’s going through, but she keeps her mouth shut because Michael’s ego is more important.
18) And then she finds this…
Tumblr media
I hope this sets her straight.
19) So… instead of getting on board with Xiomara wanting to move on after finding the list, Jane and Rogelio continue to plot to get her “back on track.” But why?
20) For a second, I thought Rafael had truly sent a caring, loving email to his sister, but it seems to be a ploy to get her to reply and reveal her location. Considering she’s a moron, she’ll probably fall for it, but it’s kind of sad? When she was reading the email, I was hoping it would be her wake-up call (if the fact that she literally jumped and gasped when Rose walked into her room wasn’t already a warning sign…) and that she would try and leave this toxic relationship. But if she’s being lured by false declarations of brotherly love… I don’t know, it feels wrong. Yes, she’s a fucking moron, but what makes her a moron is that she’s constantly looking for love and affection. That’s always her downfall.
21) Now, that is a cameo…
Tumblr media
Loved the fan bit!
22) So… Rogelio got freaking Gloria Estefan to help Xiomara, but it never occurred to him that it might have the opposite effect. Because Xiomara has seen Gloria and Emilio casually sitting there and watching her show and she’s freaking out.
Tumblr media
You bow to royalty.
23)  So… Lina Has just offered to help Michael and Jane and demanded a play by play, and Michael remembered the sex tape. He’s not going to show it to Lina, though, right? He’s just going to watch it and figure out what went wrong.
24) Oh, no she didn’t!
Tumblr media
Why is she so intent on convincing Xiomara to continue pursuing a career that hasn’t really worked out for her? She hasn’t made it, and it doesn’t look like she will anytime soon, and that’s OKAY! What’s wrong with wanting to try other things? What if she’s really talented at something else and she’s missing the opportunity to shine because she’s stubbornly fixated on being a singer? And why does it matter so much to Jane? Why does she need to control everything and everyone’s lives?
25) So… this whole obsession with Xiomara’s career is because… Jane gave up her virginity? Huh? That doesn’t make sense? How is Xiomara’s singing career a metaphor for Jane’s virginity? I’m just confused! The show is usually very good at pulling off this type of parallelism and metaphors, but this time it just didn’t work for me.
26) See? Xiomara had the right answer all along:
“With sex, it can take time to find your groove and figure out what you like, what you need. You’re just starting out. You’ll get there.”
27) So… they end up watching their own sex tape, and finally have satisfying intercourse, I guess. I kind of wish this storyline hadn’t been resolved in an episode, though, it doesn’t feel realistic.
28) So, that was the reason for the riff between Alba and her sister Cecilia…
Tumblr media
29) Why am I always so much more invested in Rogelio’s storylines?
Tumblr media
He apologized for the way he broke-up with her, and then they decided to embrace their artistic connection. And now he has six months to become famous in America so that he can be the lead of his own show in the CW hahaha! I feel this storyline will be lots of fun.
30) Look what the cat dragged in…
Tumblr media
…a moron thirsty for love.
31) So… I guess Rose lied about the whole “I’m not a criminal anymore” thing. Shocker.
Tumblr media
Rafael’s mom was on her kill list, before she even killed her. And Muter died holding a bible and clamoring for her son. I guess this will be Rafael’s storyline, then.
32) To be honest, I wasn’t a fan of this episode. Usually, the plot A and plot B are connected in a way that makes sense, and this week, it felt a bit far-fetched to have Jane obsess over Xiomara’s singing career because she had let go of her virginity. I don’t know, what are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments!
33)  Hope you enjoyed my recap, and, as usual, if you’ve got this far, thank you for reading! If you enjoy my recaps and my blog, please consider supporting it on ko-fi. Thanks!

It’s that time of the week for yet another JTV recap. I have facepalmed so many times, I’m surprised my whole face isn’t bruised.
Spoilers for Chapter 78 ahead.
First of all, Petra, girl, you need to get. a. grip. But also, I love what a bi disaster you have become.
LOLs at leaning into the Jetra. How did we ever deserve the Jane writers?
Petra texting is literally my life story
Honestly love the millions of expressions that Yael could do in the span of like, 1 second.
Hehe. “Ew”
Also, in the moment after Petra clarifies that she meant JR, Jane V’s reaction was a literal and immediate: “Smokin’ hot”
Petra rambling about all the things she likes about JR is exactly what I needed. I wish they left in all 45 minutes of it.
Oh. my. god. The whole thing that Petra set up for JR at the hotel… I almost passed out from second-degree mortification.
JR, your laugh was like an ice pick piercing into the depths of my heart. How dare you.
Honestly, after facing a rejection as cruel barbaric blasphemous cold as that, I’m pretty sure Petra would survive hell itself. JR is short for jerk.
Petra, you’re my type.
Ugh, Petra’s monologue was A+. Yael, you gem. Every time she makes her voice go higher than necessary in panic, it gets me. Who would have ever thought that I needed Bi Wreck Petra so much.
Petra. is. moping.
So, JR was turned on by Petra’s stalking? I knew they were meant for each other.
uuuuahgdsghghdakjghdkjaghfdkjghaklfjghasdkfjasdhfasfdhasdklfj
BE VULNERABLE PETRA, BE VULNERABLE
fuck. They cute af. How on earth did we ever deserve this. 20gayteen is real. It’s a great time to be alive.
Sidenotes about the other pressing storyline — Andrea Navedo’s performance and Xo’s character development (here and the last episode) has been amazing. JTV can’t get enough love and respect for always ‘going there’ and addressing the difficult issues head on. This show has my heart.
To end back on a lighter note: Matteo. What a freakin little cutie, am I right?

The 100 4x05 Recap - "Love is like a battlefield" plays over the Bellarke scene except the Chris brown bits have obviously been omitted
Can we pls get Roan back as a jtv style narrator? I need his voice
Jackson and Abby were chatting in the bg and discovered the eligius crew have night blood. Has that potentially gone wrong somehow because of how it mutated the dna and is causing the health problems they now need Abby to fix?
Maybe they could do with a healthy dose of that Blake blood cos those kids are indestructible
Poor Niylah trying it on and Clarke just wants to talk about Bellamy
Worst, most boring, most useless men of the episode award goes to Riley and Ilian
Ice nation truly going for that white walked aesthetic. They look undead and are walking so slowly that a tiny hero with a serious frown can easily stop them in their tracks.
That zoom in eye contact between Bellarke she didn't even notice her step dad but #noromo right?
How many random serial killers did the ark create and did praimfaya kill them all cos I'm not up for another riley
Niylah is too supportive to cute girls hunny if u don't put ur foot down they'll start a cannibalistic fight club
As someone with epilepsy, Raven's storyline this season bugs me. Seizures do no expand ur mind. They make u vomit all over ur hair and stop u speaking do u can't even call for help. Not flying involved.
Even the characters admit that Riley is useless omfg
For some the reason the way Bob says Riley sounds v Australian like rayyley
Raven is now living Lucy 2014
The problem with Becho is that they're both the heart and Bellamy needs to balance himself out with a head of blonde hair
Ilian u dumb muthafucka can u please stop trying to kill everyone its rly unhelpful pls thx
Oh my Octagon pls just explain that the ship is the only way to survive u idiotic grounder princess

( a petrael love rant post / also sort of my personal headcanons for them since canon is inconsistent and shady that no one asked for, because i’m in a very extra mood and i have a lot of feelings that need to be said. )
petra about rafael :   ❛ i already know who i’m meant to be with. ❜ me :   wails from a distance,  s a m e  petra.
since i’m tired of jtv painting petrael as having always been a destructive couple and i’m just sitting here thinking literally zero of the flashbacks suggest they were unhappy or that they brought out the worst in each other like when they started dating  &&  during the first few years of their marriage : ( i ) petra being a supportive pregnant crocheting wifey when rafael talks about investing in the beach  ( ii ) petra being a sweet romantic hormonal cute and raf taking the biggest bite from that purple cupcake  ( iii ) being total happy engaged goofs at the beach like listen, have you ever seen petra laugh that hard anywhere else ?  with anyone else ? i’ll give you a clue the answer is no. they were genuine happy bears who were absolutely in love and  did not  bring out the worst in each other like the finale is trying to suggest. ( also rafael looks pretty happy in these scenes too so.. )
Tumblr media
i genuinely think it was the external circumstances around them in early season one in particular caused them to do hurtful things, not because they aren’t capable of being a functional couple because i do think they are. i think overall, they were young and still had a lot to work on as well, in terms of maturity, in terms of how to trust and handle being in a relationship especially given their own separate backgrounds that didn’t exactly give the healthiest foundations ( lbr they both had the worst parents ). and they also kind of really sucked at communication. and that’s why their relationship fell against everything they had to go through. they’re not perfect, far from it. but season two and three shows how supportive and protective they can be of each other ( and i think it’s a glimpse of how they were when they first started out ). we also see them communicating more and being honest, and being understanding and being there for the other multiple times. i also really like the fact that petra and raf can bluntly call each other out when they see something the other is doing wrong tbh. idk, it might not work for everyone but it kind of does for them, and in a less conventional way it sort of helps the other to be better too.
2.04  raf at petra after they talk things through : ❛ you are smart and tenacious, and you deserve someone that’ll really make you happy. ❜ 2.08  after petra tells him the truth about everything ( communication !! ) : ❛ do you hate me? ❜ ❛ no. if anything, i think i finally understand you and everything that’s been going on. so let’s get your mother out of your life. ❜ 2.09  raf actually going through with what he said in 2.08 and helping petra with the murder case and being a supportive snowflake, also giving her the hug she so needed after all the cray + raf telling petra she’s not a bad person. 2.10  petrael being total cuties after raf finally understood why petra was being cranky about all the nurses + picking names and petra telling raf he’s a good person.  2.11  raf telling petra he fell in love with her because she was the kind of person who would save $743 on fish fillets ( does that sound like bringing out the worst in each other, lol honestly wtf jennie u high ) 2.15  raf being an angel bear and trying to help petra bond with the twins. 2.21  petra wanting to protect raf and being all like, i have no ulterior motive ! im doing this bcause i love you ! oops. ... as the father of my children. as my family. dragon petra i see u. 2.22  petra being a total carebear and asking raf how he’s doing re : his mom stuff 3.09  raf finally understands how badly being petrafied affected petra, comforted her until she fell asleep + talked her into going to therapy :) 3.10  raf helping petra out with the twins after she broke down the last ep because of all her worries about them and petra in the end supporting raf in doing the right thing aka turning himself in.  3.11-3.13  a bunch of petrael being cute supportive friends 3.14  raf thinks petra is a fierce dragon mama bear and protects people 3.16  raf is rightfully concerned for petra about anezka coming back in town  3.17  petra didnt want to tell raf about her illegal stuff bc she didnt want raf to lie for her because he’s on parole 3.18  raf is concerned about petra after the whole chuck/jp thing happened
i understand that their relationship has had HUGE bumps along the way and they do still have their struggles now, and they prob will have some more along the way but excuse me because that petrael fairytale recap in 3.19 was the shadiest way to bring down my precious cuties because rafael and petra are and have always been SO much more than those three pages of pure yikes. ( jennie urman i see what you’re doing and that’s dirty and low and not cool at all )

#JanetheVirgin Jane the Ordained Chapter 64 Season 3 Finale
Jane the Ordained Chapter 64 Season Finale
Episode Rating: 4
Season rating: 5 (for wasting time!)
Holy Moly—the season finale! I didn’t take notes, and this isn’t a recap; it’s more of a look at how our beloved characters are positioned for Season 4.
Jane: Jane was ordained by some kooky on-line church so she could officiate Ro and Xo’s wedding (hope the writers come back to this again, given Jane’s connection to religion—remember the nuns were pimping her out as miracle worker and the second coming of the Virgin Mary).  Her book is coming out, according to an ad on the bus (woo hoo!). She’s got heart-glowing feelings for Rafael, but she’s just reconnected with her first love, Adam.
THIS IS THE PROBLEM I HAVE WITH THIS WHOLE SEASON.  We don’t know Adam; I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but you can’t just drop new characters in and expect me to feel the same way I do about characters I love. First, no love interest for Jane is going to be as fine as Rafael. Adam was cute, but I’ve spent three seasons licking the screen every time Justin Baldoni takes off his shirt and Adam doesn’t stir that impulse in me (Fabian did…eventually). Second, no man is ever going to be as sweet as Michael. I was actually tearing up during those flashbacks (even though I was like, why haven’t you told us about the letter before, Jane Writers?). When Jane found the letter and Michael was talking about destiny…sigh. There’s something about Brett Dier that even made Jennie Snyder Urman change her mind about killing him off in the first season, so naturally the fans are attached to him.  And wasting our time with Sam (remember him from the beginning of the season?) and springing Adam on us just seems like a gyp.
Speaking of wasting time, whatever happened to the whole Catalina arc? Wasn’t that supposed to bring Jane’s relatives from Venezuela into the picture and wasn’t she supposed to write about her family? What ever happened to that? That seemed interesting and it would have brought us new characters we were primed to love/hate because they were Jane’s extended family. Much better than these little three-episode people.
Rafael: Rafael just got by Luisa! Luisa figured out Rafael played her by pretending to his cancer reoccurred, got a taped-up copy of their father’s will and TOLD RAFAEL TO KICK ROCKS!  This could be really interesting! Rafael in poverty would be a total fish out of water thing.  And he might not only be broke, but he might also be alone, too—what with Petra and Jane all booed up with Chuck and Adam, respectively. How will Rafael respond to this kind of pressure? I think Raf has been wasted this whole season with that “Zen Rafael” stuff, Abbey (another character I didn’t care at all about—they could’ve found some other way to reopen Scott’s murder investigation), and mooning over Petra (although Yael Grobglas is always swoon-worthy). Back in Seasons 1&2, Raf had an internal struggle going between being an entitled and rich bad boy and being the good man Jane made him believe he could be. When things got rough, Raf would go into a dark place that even Jane’s love couldn’t bring him out of. That gave him a struggle we cared about.  This whole season, Raf’s been wearing gauze-y white tunics and hanging on the sidelines. Get him back in the game, y’all.
Petra: The one good thing about this season was Petra! Petra always seemed spot on and even when something seemed like a bit of a stretch—like, say, Petra being a bawse mom to Jane’s hot mess motherhood—somehow it felt like a true evolution of the character and it worked. I like Petra’s vulnerability when it comes to Rafael, but honestly, I prefer Petra with Chuck (please let Chuck have some oil money and be hella rich while Rafael is dirt poor!). Any time Yael Grobglas is on screen is a good time; let’s hope Anezka doesn’t knock Petra off.
Michael: Dead. I get it; it’s just never gonna sit right with me. And even though it’s interesting to see where Jane’s journey ends up, I feel like the show lost something when Michael died.  Why was his hair so long in the flashbacks? I do not remember Michael being in the man-bun territory.
Rogelio:  Rogelio is one of my favorite characters and I think he was underutilized this season. Jaime Camil can act his cute butt off—remember when he told Xo how much he missed Michael or when he got angry at Alba in Spanish?—but the Jane writing room seemed to only use Ro for comic relief.  I hope he’s front and center next season. Well, he’s about to be a daddy, so that should be something. And keep him paired up with Justina Machado, who is hot fire.
Xiomara: I know I sound like a broken record, but this character was wasted, too. Xiomara is the woman who slept with her baby daddy’s arch-rival, got pregnant, and had an abortion—that’s Erica Kane territory!—but all Xo did this season was give Bruce and Rogelio Nancy-Reagan-looking-at-Ronald-Reagan eyes.  Give this woman a foil. WHERE WAS RITA MORENO?!!!!!!!!
Alba: Yes! Alba’s got a man. I like Jorge and Alba and I hope we get to see some SENIOR SEX next season. Alba pays for a room at the Marbella with her AARP card. Haaay!
Dennis: You know this is my boo. His episode with Jane’s first almost date had some nuance to it that I feel the writers backed away from. It makes sense that Jane and Dennis would lean on each other and that that dependency might get tangled up in romantic feelings. A better way to deal with it might have been to have had Jane not want to be involved with another cop and then have her really think about what kind of man she wanted. But instead we got…Catalina.
Anna and Ellie: Just like their mom—adorbs!
Mateo: He kinda annoys me. Sigh.
The Narrator: The Latin Lover Narrator dropped a tiny little hint during the wedding while the camera was on Mateo, so that made me think maybe TLLN is Mateo. Or maybe it’s Mateo’s half-brother—if Jane gets pregnant next season.
Luisa: All I know is the way Luisa put her feet up on that desk, Yara Martinez better bring some La Reina del Sur to the Marbella!
JTV moves to Fridays on The CW next season. Since I have no life, that’s perfect for me. This was my least favorite season of the three.  Hopefully, Season 4 will get back to form.
xo xo,

Why Michael’s death is really a game changer
Let me preface this by stating that I have not seen Monday night’s episode. I have no plans to watch it, or really any future episode of Jane the Virgin. I normally livestream JTV but this week I didn’t. I found out about Michael’s death by watching a promo for next week’s episode.
I’m upset. I’m irritated. Mostly I’m just sad. I began watching JTV after the S1 finale. I had read EW recaps periodically out of curiosity because the premise seemed so bizarre, but after watching the S1 finale and subsequent S2 premiere is when I became hooked. My main hook was Jane and Michael’s relationship. I fell in love with them as solo entities, but their relationship hit me right in the feels. It was so genuine, so supportive, it felt as real as a fictional relationship could, like I could walk past them at a bookstore laughing about the next Angelique Harper.
I loved Jane the Virgin. The writing was so clever, so funny and heartfelt, the characters were so interesting and their relationships were so well developed. But Michael’s death changes all of that for me. I thought Jenni Snyder Urman was a genius for creating this show, for taking the concept of this telenovela but grounding it, making fun of some of the tropes, never really going into the campiness that Shondaland shows (closest things to a soap these days) sometimes head into. But the unnecessary death of Michael Cordero Jr. takes that opinion away. THIS is campy. This is killing off people for shock value/lazy storytelling in the age of HTGAWM and Game of Thrones. If this was truly the plan all along then I’m sorry but you had a shitty plan.
There was no valid reason for Michael to die other than it was the only way for them to put Jane and Rafael back together. You’re not doing it to flip Jane’s world/path around à la the pilot if theres a time jump. You’re killing Michael because you painted yourself into a corner with how lovely Villadero’s relationship was because it would be completely OOC for Jane to leave Michael AGAIN when she’s repeatedly chosen him over Raf. And the bullshit company line of “when we slipped that line in in S1, we were setting you up for Michael’s death”. Nope. That line could’ve meant that Michael would love Jane until his dying breath at 110. If we’re looking at lines, what about the one about his “illustrious detective career” in the pilot? 3(?) years as a detective where you were fired twice and never caught Sin Rostro is not what I would consider an illustrious career. Especially since Michael died after taking his LSAT. You being “stuck with a plan” even though you were able to prolong his death because you “loved Brett so much” is the HIMYM excuse of 2017. Not to mention the way you killed him was extremely weak. Michael is presumably no more than 6 months out from being shot, where he had major cardiac trauma and surgery. NO ONE is going to say to him “Oh you’re having chest pains? Let’s not brush that off until after your LSATs, we’re going to the ER right now. You were shot in the chest!!!” (Seriously the Jane we love would’ve done that)
Finally, I want to talk about how this really messes up the show. You’ve just severed your tie to Sin Rostro, which in the absence of this first half of the season, made the show a bit weaker. I really don’t care about Raf’s parent problems, or Xo’s career, I wanted Michael back on the force looking for Sin Rostro, protecting his family and getting that victory. Supposedly Michael’s detective friend will be the new tie to this investigation but again, he’s Michael’s friend, Michael is now dead and he has no real ties to anyone else the way Michael did. You’ve just lost a source of some good parenting storylines involving Jane and Raf’s co-parenting with Michael as Mateo’s stepdad. If Jane and Raf get back together there will be no parenting dramas for B-storylines as Raf will go back to his “what can I do to make Jane happy?” days. And do I even need to mention the loss of the bromance?
TLDR: I’m done. I’m sad that I am because I will miss this show, but you know what? Michael’s death just proved that this show wasn’t great to begin with.

Note
although jtv after michael's death is a sh*t show in itself, the one thing that happened this episode that was the most infuriating is that in the recap they didn't even refer to michael as michael, they just called him jane's husband, like to me it reduced his character and impact on the show so much and it's so obvious that the mtv writers killed off michael and are now rewriting history in order to justify j*fael like honestly the jtv writers are dead to me
I spare myself by not watching lol
I mean they basically divided up all the parts of Michaels character amongst Rafael and Dennis (?). Literally why kill him if you still need someone to fit his role I don’t understand. Why downgrade.
Anyway I only follow along through the tumblr tags now but the things that have really pissed me off are1) Jane referring to Raf as her best friend in like the NEXT episode after Michaels death like can we not please. Jane and Michaels whole thing was that they were each other’s best friends!! “I love you because you’re my best friend!!!!!!!!” it’s not like I’d never expect Jane to move on but it just pisses me off that they put Raf in that position immediately afterward. They could have at least mentioned that Lena exists. 2) the stupid time jump in general everything is Too Soon™ as a viewer but they can justify it all away with “it’s been 3 years!!” 3) they created “Zen Rafael” who will dance with Jane and support Jane and cheer Jane up and basically replace Michael in a way that “old” Rafael never could. They literally gave Rafael a full character development arc overnight by sending him away to prison (offscreen) and time jumping to when it’s reasonable to believe that he could have become a better man. It’s basically the writers admitting that Rafael as he was with Jane would never have worked out, but they wanted to launch back into that relationship right away instead of taking the time to actually portray Rafael changing. The time jump is so cheap I’m so salty 4) now this narrator “husband” bs the day I have to hear the narrator say “Remember that Jane’s husband ((((the love of her life Michael Cordero Jr who, ya know, was only a central part of the storyline for the past 2.5 seasons, but you’ve probably forgotten all about him in the last two episodes haha)))) died” is the day I die
